Abstract
Formulated oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions of oleic acid (OA) using sesame protein isolate (SPI) were processed via emulsion electrospinning with poly (vinyl) alcohol (PVA) to fabricate core-shell nanofibers for lipid oxidation prevention. The emulsion droplet size and viscosity increased as the oil volume fraction rose from 5 % to 30 %. The morphology tests and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the uniformity of nanofibers and OA encapsulation with hydrogen bonding. The thermal stability, mechanical properties, and water contact angle (WCA) of the nanofiber films improved with increased OA content. Encapsulation efficiency was 94.76 % and storage stability was maintained for 7 days in 5 % oil fraction nanofibers. The nanofibers showed lower oxidation and superior oxidative resistance to free OA, with the lowest peroxide value (POV, 2.14 mmol/L) and thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS, 36.75 μmol/L). In conclusion, the OA/SPI/PVA (PE) core-shell nanofibers via emulsion electrospinning are efficient for fatty acid encapsulation in functional foods.

Abstract
The main objective of this study is to construct radially aligned PCL nanofibers reinforced with levan polymer and investigate their in vitro biological activities thoroughly. First Halomonas levan (HL) polysaccharide is hydrolyzed (hHL) and subjected to sulfation to attain Sulfated hydrolyzed Halomonas levan (ShHL)-based material indicating heparin mimetic properties. Then, optimization studies are carried out to produce coaxially generated radially aligned Poly(caprolactone) (PCL) -ShHL nanofibers via electrospinning. The obtained nanofibers are characterized with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X-Ray (FESEM-EDX) analysis, and mechanical, contact angle measurement, biodegradability, and swelling tests as well. Afterward, cytotoxicity of artificial tympanic membranes is analyzed by MTT (3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl) -2,5 Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide) test, and their impacts on cell proliferation, cellular adhesion, wound healing processes are explored. Furthermore, an additional FESEM imaging is performed to manifest the interactions between fibroblasts and nanofibers. According to analytical measurements it is detected that PCL-ShHL nanofibers i) are smaller in fiber diameter, ii) are more biodegradable, iii) are more hydrophilic, and iv) demonstrated superior mechanical properties compared to PCL nanofibers. Moreover, it is also deciphered that PCL-ShHL nanofibers strongly elevated cellular adhesion, proliferation, and in vitro wound healing features compared to PCL nanofibers. According to obtained results it is assumed that newly synthetized levan and PCL mediated nanofibers are very encouraging for healing tympanic membrane perforations.

Abstract
This study harnesses glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) from Yarrowia lipolytica to improve the biosynthesis of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), focusing on boosting the enzyme's catalytic efficiency and stability by immobilizing it on nanofibrous membranes. Through recombinant DNA techniques, two GAD genes, YlGAD1 and YlGAD2, were cloned from Yarrowia lipolytica and then expressed in Escherichia coli. Compared to their soluble forms, the immobilized enzymes exhibited significant improvements in thermal and pH stability and increased resistance to chemical denaturants. The immobilization notably enhanced substrate affinity, as evidenced by reduced Km values and increased kcat values, indicating heightened catalytic efficiency. Additionally, the immobilized YlGAD1 and YlGAD2 enzymes showed substantial reusability, maintaining 50% and 40% of their activity, respectively, after six consecutive cycles. These results underscore the feasibility of employing immobilized YlGAD enzymes for cost-effective and environmentally sustainable GABA production. This investigation not only affirms the utility of YlGADs in GABA synthesis but also underscores the advantages of enzyme immobilization in industrial settings, paving the way for scalable biotechnological processes.

Abstract
The inferior hydrophobicity and mechanical properties of starch-based nanofibrous films significantly restrict their practical application. In view of this, this study prepared octenylsuccinylated starch-pullulan nanofibrous films using electrospinning and glutaraldehyde (GTA) gas-phase crosslinking. After GTA crosslinking, the starch-based nanofibrous films remained white, randomly oriented, smooth, and droplet-free. As the crosslinking time increased from 0 h to 24 h, the mean fibrous diameter augmented from 157.34 nm to 238.66 nm, and the water contact angle rose from 24.30° to 52.49°. Meanwhile, their tensile strength and thermal stability grew, and the mean pore area and elongation at break abated with changes in function groups. The crosslinked starch-based nanofibrous films exhibited an enhanced adsorption capacity for alcohols, ethers, esters, hydrocarbons, and N-compounds of oyster peptides. Correlation analysis shows that the adsorption capacity of the starch-based nanofibrous films was positively correlated with mean fibrous diameter and water contact angle and negatively correlated with mean pore area. These results provide a theoretical basis for the practical application of crosslinked starch-based nanofibrous film materials in deodorization.

Abstract
Food safety significantly impacts public health and social welfare. Recently, issues such as heavy metal ions, drug residues, food additives, and microbial contamination in food have become increasingly prominent. Electrochemical sensing technology, known for its low cost, simplicity, rapid response, high sensitivity, and excellent selectivity, has been crucial in food safety detection. Electrospun nanofibers, with their high specific surface area, superior mechanical properties, and design flexibility, offer new insights and technical platforms for developing electrochemical sensors. This study introduces the fundamental principles, classifications, and detection mechanisms of electrochemical sensors, along with the principles and classifications of electrospinning technology. The applications of electrospun nanofiber-based electrochemical sensors in food safety detection over the past five years are detailed, and the limitations and future research prospects are discussed. Continuous innovation and optimization are expected to make electrospun nanofiber-based electrochemical sensors a key technology in rapid food safety detection, providing valuable references for expanding their application and advancing food safety detection methods.

Abstract
In this study, the electrospinning technique was used to co-encapsulate Quercetin (Qu) and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 1-24-LJ in PVA-based nanofibers, and the effect of bioactive films on fish preservation was evaluated at the first time. The findings indicated that both Lpb. plantarum 1-24-LJ and Qu were successfully in the fibers, and co-loaded fibers considerably outperformed single-loaded fiber in terms of bacterial survival and antioxidant activity. Following fish preservation using the loaded fibers, significant reductions were observed in TVB-N, TBARS, and microbial complexity compared to the control group. Additionally, the co-loaded fibers more effectively reduced the counts of H2S-producing bacteria and Pseudomonas. In the future, fibers with both active substances and LAB hold promise as a novel approach for fish preservation.

Abstract
3D printing and electrospinning are versatile techniques employed to produce 3D structures, such as scaffolds and ultrathin fibers, facilitating the creation of a cellular microenvironment in vitro. These two approaches operate on distinct working principles and utilize different polymeric materials to generate the desired structure. This review provides an extensive overview of these techniques and their potential roles in biomedical applications. Despite their potential role in fabricating complex structures, each technique has its own limitations. Electrospun fibers may have ambiguous geometry, while 3D-printed constructs may exhibit poor resolution with limited mechanical complexity. Consequently, the integration of electrospinning and 3D-printing methods may be explored to maximize the benefits and overcome the individual limitations of these techniques. This review highlights recent advancements in combined techniques for generating structures with controlled porosities on the micro-nano scale, leading to improved mechanical structural integrity. Collectively, these techniques also allow the fabrication of nature-inspired structures, contributing to a paradigm shift in research and technology. Finally, the review concludes by examining the advantages, disadvantages, and future outlooks of existing technologies in addressing challenges and exploring potential opportunities.

Abstract
Due to the growing concerns surrounding microbial contamination and food safety, there has been a surge of interest in fabricating novel food packaging with highly efficient antibacterial activity. Herein, we describe novel photodynamic antibacterial konjac glucomannan (KGM)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) nanofibers incorporated with lignin-zinc oxide composite nanoparticles (L-ZnONPs) and curcumin (Cur) via electrospinning technology. The resulting KGM/PVP/Cur/L-ZnONPs nanofibers exhibited favorable hydrophobic properties (water contact angle: 118.1°), thermal stability, and flexibility (elongation at break: 241.9%). Notably, the inclusion of L-ZnONPs and Cur endowed the nanofibers with remarkable antioxidant (ABTS radical scavenging activity: 98.1%) and photodynamic antimicrobial properties, demonstrating enhanced inhibitory effect against both Staphylococcus aureus (inhibition: 12.4 mm) and Escherichia coli (12.1 mm). As a proof-of-concept study, we evaluated the feasibility of applying nanofibers to fresh strawberries, and the findings demonstrated that our nanofibers could delay strawberry spoilage and inhibit microbial growth. This photodynamic antimicrobial approach holds promise for design of highly efficient antibacterial food packaging, thereby contributing to enhanced food safety and quality assurance.

Abstract
Probiotics have become increasingly recognized for their potential health-promoting properties; however, the viability of probiotics can be affected by storage and transportation processes as well as the stressful environment of the human digestive tract, preventing them from achieving effective concentration (107 CFU/mL). In this regard, the embedding technology of probiotics provides an effective protection method. Dextran-based water in water (W/W) emulsion loaded with Lactobacillus plantarum was used as spinning solution to prepare Lactobacillus plantarum-loaded electrospun fibers. The structure of the W/W emulsion and the electrospun fibers was charactered. Lactobacillus plantarum were uniformly embedded in the internal phase of the W/W emulsion and the loading efficiency was 9.70 ± 0.40 log CFU/g. After 240 min digestion in the gastrointestinal tract, and temperature treatment in 65 °C and 72 °C, the loaded probiotics maintained high activity. Even after 5 days of storage in room temperature and 4 °C, the loaded probiotic activity levels remained high, with counts >8 log CFU/g. These results suggest that probiotics encapsulated by emulsion electrospinning could be potentially delivered in a novel food delivery system used in the future food industry.

Abstract
Introduction: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is associated with microenvironment imbalance, thereby resulting in poor regeneration and recovery of the spinal cord. Gene therapy can be used to balance the inflammatory response, however target genes cannot exist in localized injured areas. Methods: A genetically engineered electrospun scaffold (GEES) to achieve long-term immunoregulation and nerve repair was constructed. By combining the microfluidic and electrospinning techniques, interleukin-10 plasmid (pIL10) was loaded into lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) (pIL10-LNP), which was encapsulated to the nerve growth factor (NGF). Immunofluorescence staining, qRT-PCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, and other tests were employed to comprehensively assess the role of GEES in modulating macrophage polarization and facilitating neural repair. Results: The results showed that the scaffold released >70% of the pIL10-LNP within 10 d and continued slow release within 30 d. In vitro cell experiments have demonstrated that GEES effectively stimulates macrophages to secrete anti-inflammatory cytokines and facilitates the differentiation of neural stem cells into neuronal cells. In rat T9 SCI model, the GEES significantly inhibited the inflammatory response in the acute and chronic phases of SCI by transfecting local tissues with slow-release pIL10-LNP to promote the release of the anti-inflammatory factor IL10, thereby creating a favorable microenvironment. With the addition of NGF, the repair and regeneration of nerve tissues was effectively promoted, and the post-SCI motor function of rats improved. Discussion: GEES can regulate post-SCI immune responses through continuous and effective gene delivery, providing a new strategy for the construction of electrospun scaffolds for nerve repair in gene therapy.

Abstract
Fucoxanthin is a xanthophyll carotenoid that possesses potent antioxidant, anti-obesity, and anti-tumor properties. However, its limited solubility in water and susceptibility to degradation create challenges for its application. In this study, a microfluidic coaxial electrospinning technique was used to produce core-shell zein-gelatin nanofibers for encapsulating fucoxanthin, enhancing its bioavailability, and improving its stability. In comparison to uniaxially-loaded fucoxanthin nanofibers, the encapsulation efficiency of fucoxanthin reached 98.58 % at a core-shell flow rate ratio of 0.26:1, representing a 14.29 % improvement. The photostability of the nanofibers increased by 74.59 % after three days, UV stability increased by 38.82 % after 2 h, and temperature stability also significantly improved, demonstrating a protective effect under harsh environmental conditions (P < 0.05). Additionally, nanofibers effectively alleviated oleic acid-induced reactive oxygen species production and reduced fluorescence intensity by 54.76 %. MTT experiments indicated great biocompatibility of the nanofibers, effectively mitigating mitochondrial membrane potential polarization and lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells. Overall, the microfluidic coaxial electrospinning technique enables promising applications of fucoxanthin delivery in the food industry.

Abstract
Traditional wound dressings have not been able to satisfy the needs of the regenerative medicine biomedical area. With the aim of improving tissue regeneration, nanofiber-based wound dressings fabricated by electrospinning (ES) processes have emerged as a powerful approach. Nowadays, nanofiber-based bioactive dressings are mainly developed with a combination of natural and synthetic polymers, such as polycaprolactone (PCL) and chitosan (CHI). Accordingly, herein, PCL/CHI nanofibers have been developed with varying PCL:CHI weight ratios (9:1, 8:2 and 7:3) or CHI viscosities (20, 100 and 600 mPa·s) using a novel alternating current ES (ACES) process. Such nanofibers were thoroughly characterized by determining physicochemical and nanomechanical properties, along with wettability, absorption capacity and hydrolytic plus enzymatic stability. Furthermore, PCL/CHI nanofiber biological safety was validated in terms of cytocompatibility and hemocompatibility (hemolysis < 2%), in addition to a notable antibacterial performance (bacterial reductions of 99.90% for S. aureus and 99.91% for P. aeruginosa). Lastly, the enhanced wound healing activity of PCL/CHI nanofibers was confirmed thanks to their ability to remarkably promote cell proliferation, which make them ideal candidates for long-term applications such as wound dressings.

Abstract
The hydrophilic and low mechanical properties limited the application of starch-based films. In this work, a hydrophobic starch-based nanofiber mat was first successfully prepared from aqueous solution at room temperature by using electrospinning and glutaraldehyde (GTA) vapor phase crosslinking techniques for active packaging applications. Catechin (CAT) was immobilized in the nanofibers by electrospinning, resulting in higher thermal stability (Tdmax = 315.23 °C), antioxidant (DPPH scavenging activity = 94.31 ± 2.70 %) and antimicrobial (inhibition zone diameter = 15.6 ± 0.3 mm) of the fibers, which further demonstrated hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interaction between CAT and fibers. Nanofibers after GTA vapor phase crosslinking exhibited enhanced hydrophobicity (water contact angle: 15.6 ± 1.5° → 93.5 ± 2.3°) and mechanical properties (tensile strength: 1.82 ± 0.06 MPa → 7.64 ± 0.24 MPa, elastic modulus: 19.35 ± 0.63 MPa → 45.34 ± 0.51 MPa). The results demonstrated that preparation of starch-based electrospun nanofiber mats in aqueous system at room temperature overcame the challenges of organic solvent pollution and thermosensitive material encapsulation, while GTA vapor phase crosslinking technique improved the hydrophobicity and mechanical properties of nanofiber mats, which facilitated the application of starch-based materials in the field of packaging.

Abstract
L-poly(lactic acid), poly(3-hydroxybutyrate), and poly-hydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate are biodegradable polymers that can be obtained from renewable biomass sources. The aim of this study was to develop three types of environmentally friendly film biocomposites of altered microstructure by combining each of the above-mentioned polymers with cellulose nanocrystal fillers and further processing the resulting materials via space-confined solvent vapor annealing. Cellulose was previously obtained from renewable biomass and further converted to cellulose nanocrystals by hydrolysis with the lactic acid. The solutions of biodegradable polymers were spin-coated onto solid substrates before and after the addition of cellulose nanocrystals. The obtained thin film composites were further processed via space-confined solvent vapor annealing to eventually favor their crystallization and, thus, to alter the final microstructure. Indeed, atomic force microscopy studies have revealed that the presence of cellulose nanocrystals within a biodegradable polymer matrix promoted the formation of large crystalline structures exhibiting fractal-, spherulitic- or needle-like morphologies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In the inflammatory milieu of diabetic chronic wounds, macrophages undergo substantial metabolic reprogramming and play a pivotal role in orchestrating immune responses. Itaconic acid, primarily synthesized by inflammatory macrophages as a byproduct in the tricarboxylic acid cycle, has recently gained increasing attention as an immunomodulator. This study aims to assess the immunomodulatory capacity of an itaconic acid derivative, 4-Octyl itaconate (OI), which was covalently conjugated to electrospun nanofibers and investigated through in vitro studies and a full-thickness wound model of diabetic mice. RESULTS OI was feasibly conjugated onto chitosan (CS), which was then grafted to electrospun polycaprolactone/gelatin (PG) nanofibers to obtain P/G-CS-OI membranes. The P/G-CS-OI membrane exhibited good mechanical strength, compliance, and biocompatibility. In addition, the sustained OI release endowed the nanofiber membrane with great antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activities as revealed in in vitro and in vivo studies. Specifically, the P/G-CS-OI membrane activated nuclear factor-erythroid-2-related factor 2 (NRF2) by alkylating Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (KEAP1). This antioxidative response modulates macrophage polarization, leading to mitigated inflammatory responses, enhanced angiogenesis, and recovered re-epithelization, finally contributing to improved healing of mouse diabetic wounds. CONCLUSIONS The P/G-CS-OI nanofiber membrane shows good capacity in macrophage modulation and might be promising for diabetic chronic wound treatment.

Abstract
Zein, a protein-based biopolymer derived from corn, has garnered attention as a promising and eco-friendly choice for packaging food due to its favorable physical attributes. The introduction of electrospinning technology has significantly advanced the production of zein-based nanomaterials. This cutting-edge technique enables the creation of nanofibers with customizable structures, offering high surface area and adjustable mechanical and thermal attributes. Moreover, the electrospinning process allows for integrating various additives, such as antioxidants, antimicrobial agents, and flavoring compounds, into the zein nanofibers, enhancing their functionalities for food preservation. In this comprehensive review, the various electrospinning techniques employed for crafting zein-based nanofibers, and we delve into their enhanced properties. Furthermore, the review illuminates the potential applications of zein nanofibers in active and intelligent packaging materials by incorporating diverse constituents. Altogether, this review highlights the considerable prospects of zein-based nanocomposites in the realm of food packaging, offering sustainable and innovative solutions for food industry.

Abstract
Pullulan is naturally occurring polysaccharide exhibited potential applications for food preservation has gained increasing attention over the last half-century. Recent studies focused on efficient preservation and targeted inhibition using active composite ingredients and advanced technologies. This has led to the emergence of pullulan-based biofilm preservation. This review extensively studied the characteristics of pullulan-based films and coatings, including their mechanical strength, water vapor permeability, thermal stability, and potential as a microbial agent. Furthermore, the distinct characteristics of pullulan, production methods, and activation strategies, such as pullulan derivatization, various compounded ingredients (plant extracts, microorganisms, and animal additives), and other technologies (e.g., ultrasound), are thoroughly studied for the functional property enhancement of pullulan-based films and coatings, ensuring optimal preservation conditions for diverse food products. Additionally, we explore hypotheses that further illuminate pullulan's potential as an eco-friendly bioactive material for food packaging applications. In addition, this review evaluates various methods to improve the efficiency of the film-forming mechanism, such as improving the direct coating process, bioactive packaging films, and implementing layer-by-layer coatings. Finally, current analyses put forward suggestions for future advancement in pullulan-based bioactive films, with the aim of expanding their range of potential applications.

Abstract
Air pollution has become a major challenge that threatens human health. The use of respiratory filters is one of the proposed solutions. In this study, using polystyrene (PS) fibers and various nanomaterials, improved respiratory filters were fabricated to remove air pollutants. In this context, ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) integrated into dendritic structures of KCC-1 silica were used to improve the filters' ability to absorb pollutants. For the first time, the removal of gasses by modified filters with a novel polymeric nanocomposite (PS/ZnO-KCC-1) stabilized on the surface of respiratory filters was investigated. Moreover, two different methods including stabilized- and solution-based techniques were used to prepare the filters with different amounts of ZnO NPs and their efficiency was evaluated. All synthesized nanocomposites and developed filters were characterized by FT-IR, FESEM, TGA and XRD methods. The successful stabilization of nanostructures on the fibers was proved and the performance of the fibers was investigated with some tests, such as pressure drop and removal of suspended particles and CO2 (89%), NO2 (86%), and SO2 (83%) gases. PS/KCC-1-ZnO (5%) has better performance than other prepared fibers. The results showed that the removal of suspended particles in the filter containing ZnO and KCC-1 (M5) nanostructures was improved by 18% compared to the filter consisting of polystyrene fibers. The pressure drop increased with the addition of nanostructures and reached 180 Pa in the M5 filter. The filter containing ZnO NPs showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus (S.) aureus and Escherichia (E.) coli as Gram-positive and Gram-negative model bacteria using the Agar disk-diffusion method. Based on the results, the use of improved respiratory filters is recommended as an effective solution for combating air pollution and protecting human health.

Abstract
Superabsorbent polymers are new functional polymeric materials that can absorb and retain liquids thousands of times their masses. This paper reviews the synthesis and modification methods of different superabsorbent polymers, summarizes the processing methods for different forms of superabsorbent polymers, and organizes the applications and research progress of superabsorbent polymers in industrial, agricultural, and biomedical industries. Synthetic polymers like polyacrylic acid, polyacrylamide, polyacrylonitrile, and polyvinyl alcohol exhibit superior water absorption properties compared to natural polymers such as cellulose, chitosan, and starch, but they also do not degrade easily. Consequently, it is often necessary to modify synthetic polymers or graft superabsorbent functional groups onto natural polymers, and then crosslink them to balance the properties of material. Compared to the widely used superabsorbent nanoparticles, research on superabsorbent fibers and gels is on the rise, and they are particularly notable in biomedical fields like drug delivery, wound dressing, and tissue engineering.

Abstract
Utilizing electrospun nanofibers and microneedle arrays in wound regeneration has been practiced for several years. Researchers have recently asserted that using multiple methods concurrently might enhance efficiency, despite the inherent strengths and weaknesses of each individual approach. The combination of microneedle arrays with electrospun nanofibers has the potential to create a drug delivery system and wound healing method that offer improved efficiency and accuracy in targeting. The use of microneedles with nanofibers allows for precise administration of pharmaceuticals due to the microneedles' capacity to pierce the skin and the nanofibers' role as a drug reservoir, resulting in a progressive release of drugs over a certain period of time. Electrospun nanofibers have the ability to imitate the extracellular matrix and provide a framework for cellular growth and tissue rejuvenation, while microneedle arrays show potential for enhancing tissue regeneration and enhancing the efficacy of wound healing. The integration of electrospun nanofibers with microneedle arrays may be customized to effectively tackle particular obstacles in the fields of wound healing and drug delivery. However, some issues must be addressed before this paradigm may be fully integrated into clinical settings, including but not limited to ensuring the safety and sterilization of these products for transdermal use, optimizing manufacturing methods and characterization of developed products, larger-scale production, optimizing storage conditions, and evaluating the inclusion of multiple therapeutic and antimicrobial agents to increase the synergistic effects in the wound healing process. This research examines the combination of microneedle arrays with electrospun nanofibers to enhance the delivery of drugs and promote wound healing. It explores various kinds of microneedle arrays, the materials and processes used, and current developments in their integration with electrospun nanofibers.

Abstract
The application of natural small molecule (NSM) in electrospun fibers is the key to achieving powerful functionality and sustainable development. However, the lack of understanding regarding the mechanism for loading NSM hinders the advancement of high-performance functional fibers. This work clarified the loading mechanism of NSM in polymer solution by comparing the different behaviors of curcumin (Cur), phloretin (PL), and tea polyphenols (TP) blended ethyl cellulose (EC) solutions. We found that TP may lead to the folding of polymer chains due to its strongest hydrogen bond, which in turn promoted the dispersion of TP along the polymer chain. Therefore, TP could achieve good electrospinnability at the highest loading capacity (16 times the Cur and 4 times the PL). Finally, chitosan was introduced into EC/TP to prepare tree-like nanofibers, achieving high-performance antibacterial air filtration. The filtration efficiency for 0.3 μm NaCl particles, pressure drop, and quality factor were 99.991 %, 85.5 Pa, and 0.1089 Pa-1, respectively. The bacteriostatic rates against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were all 99.99 %. This work will promote the application of NSM and the developments of multifunctional electrospun fibers and high-performance air filters.

Abstract
Electrostatic spinning as a technique for producing nanoscale fibers has recently attracted increasing attention due to its simplicity, versatility, and loadability. Nanofibers prepared by electrostatic spinning have been widely studied, especially in biomedical applications, because of their high specific surface area, high porosity, easy size control, and easy surface functionalization. Wound healing is a highly complex and dynamic process that is a crucial step in the body's healing process to recover from tissue injury or other forms of damage. Single-component nanofibers are more or less limited in terms of structural properties and do not fully satisfy various needs of the materials. This review aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the literature on the use of electrostatically spun nanofibers to promote wound healing, to overview the infinite possibilities for researchers to tap into their biomedical applications through functional composite modification of nanofibers for advanced and multifunctional materials, and to propose directions and perspectives for future research.

Abstract
Enhancing the efficiency of photocatalysts in the removal of organic pollutants is of vital importance in wastewater treatment. In this work, a set of composite membranes that can be used for efficient removal of the organic dyes, such as methyl orange (MO), methylene blue (MB), and Congo red (CR), were prepared through coblending/electrospinning techniques using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) as the substrate, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as the dispersing agent and wettability regulator, and cuprous oxide (Cu2O) as the photocatalyst. The results showed that Cu2O particles were well encapsulated in the electrospun PVDF/PVP fibers, and the composite membranes exhibited apparently enhanced hydrophilicity. Furthermore, compared with the pure Cu2O particles, the composite membranes not only showed a higher photocatalytic degradation ratio for MO (93.6%) but also showed a much higher degradation rate (62.4 mg/(mg·h)) in comparison with the other reported Cu2O-based composite photocatalytic materials in the literature. In addition, the membrane sample also had excellent recycling stability, and the retention rate of its removal ability maintained 92.1% after 5 times of recycling. Furthermore, the composite membranes also showed high removal ability toward MB and CR, with photocatalytic degradation ratios of 81.4 and 76.1%, respectively. This work indicates that the prepared PVDF/PVP-Cu2O composite membranes possess promising application prospects in wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Carbohydrates are a class of macromolecules that has significant potential across several domains, including the organisation of genetic material, provision of structural support, and facilitation of defence mechanisms against invasion. Their molecular diversity enables a vast array of essential functions, such as energy storage, immunological signalling, and the modification of food texture and consistency. Due to their rheological characteristics, solubility, sweetness, hygroscopicity, ability to prevent crystallization, flavour encapsulation, and coating capabilities, carbohydrates are useful in food products. Carbohydrates hold potential for the future of therapeutic development due to their important role in sustained drug release, drug targeting, immune antigens, and adjuvants. Bio-based packaging provides an emerging phase of materials that offer biodegradability and biocompatibility, serving as a substitute for traditional non-biodegradable polymers used as coatings on paper. Blending polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) with carbohydrate biopolymers, such as starch, cellulose, polylactic acid, etc., reduces the undesirable qualities of PHA, such as crystallinity and brittleness, and enhances the PHA's properties in addition to minimizing manufacturing costs. Carbohydrate-based biopolymeric nanoparticles are a viable and cost-effective way to boost agricultural yields, which is crucial for the increasing global population. The use of biopolymeric nanoparticles derived from carbohydrates is a potential and economically viable approach to enhance the quality and quantity of agricultural harvests, which is of utmost importance given the developing global population. The carbohydrate biopolymers may play in plant protection against pathogenic fungi by inhibiting spore germination and mycelial growth, may act as effective elicitors inducing the plant immune system to cope with pathogens. Furthermore, they can be utilised as carriers in controlled-release formulations of agrochemicals or other active ingredients, offering an alternative approach to conventional fungicides. It is expected that this review provides an extensive summary of the application of carbohydrates in the realms of food, pharmaceuticals, and environment.

Abstract
Electrospinning is one of the most promising techniques for producing biopolymer nanofibers for various applications. Proteins and polysaccharides, among other biopolymers, are attractive substrates for electrospinning due to their favorable biocompatibility and biodegradability. However, there are still challenges to improve the mechanical properties, water sensitivity and biological activity of biopolymer nanofibers. Therefore, these strategies such as polymer blending, application of cross-linking agents, the addition of nanoparticles and bioactive components, and modification of biopolymer have been developed to enhance the properties of biopolymer nanofibers. Among them, antibacterial aroma compounds (AACs) from essential oils are widely used as bioactive components and property modifiers in various biopolymer nanofibers to enhance the functionality, hydrophobicity, thermal properties, and mechanical properties of nanofibers, which depends on the electrospun strategy of AACs. This review summarizes the recently reported antimicrobial activities and applications of AACs, and compares the effects of four electrospinning strategies for encapsulating AACs on the properties and applications of nanofibers. The authors focus on the correlation of the main characteristics of these biopolymer electrospun nanofibers with the encapsulation strategy of AACs in the nanofibers. Moreover, this review also particularly emphasizes the impact of the characteristics of these nanofibers on their application field of antimicrobial materials.

Abstract
Biopolymers, especially polysaccharides and proteins, are the promising green replacement for petroleum based polymers. Due to their innate properties, they are effectively used in biomedical applications, especially tissue engineering, wound healing, and drug delivery. The fibrous morphology of biopolymers is essentially required for the effectiveness in these biomedical applications. Electrospinning (ES) is the most advanced and robust method to fabricate nanofibers (NFs) and provides a complete solution to the conventional methods issues. However, the major issues regarding fabricating polysaccharides and protein nanofibers using ES include poor electrospinnability, lack of desired fundamental properties for a specific application by a single biopolymer, and insolubility among common solvents. The current review provides the main strategies for effective electrospinning of the major biopolymers. The key strategies include blending major biopolymers with suitable biopolymers and optimizing the solvent system. A systematic literature review was done to provide the optimized solvent system of the major biopolymers along with their best possible biopolymeric blend for ES. The review also highlights the fundamental issues with the commercialization of ES based biomedical products and provides future directions to improve the fabrication of biopolymeric nanofibers.

Abstract
A colon-targeted delivery system that can efficiently deliver and release quercetin is essential to improve its bioavailability. We previously found that hydrophobic ethyl cellulose (EC) nanofibers could efficiently deliver quercetin to colon, but the release of quercetin was limited. To address this problem, hydrophilic gelatin (GN) was used as a regulator, and quercetin-loaded nanofibers with different mass ratios of EC to GN (3:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3) were fabricated by electrospinning. All nanofibers had a cylindrical morphology and high encapsulation efficiency (over 94 %), and there existed molecular interactions among quercetin, EC, and GN. The high GN content reduced the thermal stability of nanofibers but increased their surface wettability. Besides, these nanofibers had good stability in acidic and aqueous foods. Importantly, the release of quercetin in the simulated gastrointestinal fluid was <3 %. The addition of GN was beneficial to the release of quercetin in colon, and nanofibers with EC to GN being 1:3 had a more preferable release performance. The anticancer activity of nanofibers against HCT-116 cells was proved by inhibiting cell viability through the induction of apoptosis. Therefore, these nanofibers are potential carriers for efficient colon-targeted delivery of bioactive compounds in the food industry.

Abstract
Poly(carbonate-urea-urethane) (PCUU)-based scaffolds exhibit various desirable properties for tissue engineering applications. This study thus aimed to investigate the suitability of PCUU as polymers for the manufacturing of nonwoven mats by electrospinning, able to closely mimic the fibrous structure of the extracellular matrix. PCUU nonwovens of fiber diameters ranging from 0.28 ± 0.07 to 0.82 ± 0.12 μm were obtained with an average surface porosity of around 50-60%. Depending on the collector type and solution concentration, a broad range of tensile strengths (in the range of 0.3-9.6 MPa), elongation at break (90-290%), and Young's modulus (5.7-26.7 MPa) at room temperature of the nonwovens could be obtained. Furthermore, samples collected on the plate collector showed a shape-memory effect with a shape-recovery ratio (Rr) of around 99% and a shape-fixity ratio (Rf) of around 96%. Biological evaluation validated the inertness, stability, and lack of cytotoxicity of PCUU nonwovens obtained on the plate collector. The ability of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and endothelial cells (HUVECs) to attach, elongate, and grow on the surface of the nonwovens suggests that the manufactured nonwovens are suitable scaffolds for tissue engineering applications.

Abstract
In the current study, whey protein-based nanofibers were fabricated to encapsulate Lactobacillus rhamnosus. Purposely, different ratios of PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) and WPI (whey protein isolate) were blended to fabricate nanofibers. Nanofiber mats were characterized in terms of particle size, diameter, tensile strength, elongation at break, and loading efficiency. Morphological and molecular characterizations were carried out using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). Moreover, in vitro viability under simulated gastrointestinal (GI) conditions and thermal stability were also assessed. The results reveal that by increasing the PVA concentration, the conductivity increased while the viscosity decreased. SEM micrographs showed that probiotics were successfully loaded within the nanofiber. The FTIR spectra show strong bonding between the encapsulating materials with the addition of probiotics. In vitro and thermal analyses revealed that the survival of encapsulated probiotics significantly (p < 0.05) improved. In a nutshell, PVA-WPI composite nanofibers have promising potential when used to enhance the viability and stability of probiotics under adverse conditions.

Abstract
For the first time, a systematic study to investigate the electrospinnability of cyclic olefin polymer (COP) was performed. Different solvents and mixtures were tested together with different electrospinning parameters and post-treatment types to prepare bead-free fibers without defects. These were successfully obtained using a chloroform/chlorobenzene (40/60 wt.%) solvent mixture with a 15 wt.% COP polymer, a 1 mL/h polymer solution flow rate, a 15 cm distance between the needle and collector, and a 12 kV electric voltage. COP fibers were in the micron range and the hot-press post-treatment (5 MPa, 5 min and 120 °C) induced an integrated fibrous structure along with more junctions between fibers, reducing the mean and maximum inter-fiber space. When the temperature of the press post-treatment was increased (from 25 °C to 120 °C), better strength and less elongation at break of COP fibers were achieved. However, when applying a temperature above the COP glass temperature (Tg = 138 °C) the fibers coalesced, showing a mechanical behavior similar to a plastic film and a low elongation at break with a high strength. The addition of a high dielectric constant non-solvent, N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc), resulted in a considerable reduction in the COP fiber diameter. Based on the cloud point approach, it was found that the use of DMAc and the solvent chloroform or chlorobenzene improved the electrospinnability of COP polymer solution.

Abstract
Knee osteoarthritis is a chronic disease caused by the deterioration of the knee joint due to various factors such as aging, trauma, and obesity, and the nonrenewable nature of the injured cartilage makes the treatment of osteoarthritis challenging. Here, we present a three-dimensional (3D) printed porous multilayer scaffold based on cold-water fish skin gelatin for osteoarticular cartilage regeneration. To make the scaffold, cold-water fish skin gelatin was combined with sodium alginate to increase viscosity, printability, and mechanical strength, and the hybrid hydrogel was printed according to a pre-designed specific structure using 3D printing technology. Then, the printed scaffolds underwent a double-crosslinking process to enhance their mechanical strength even further. These scaffolds mimic the structure of the original cartilage network in a way that allows chondrocytes to adhere, proliferate, and communicate with each other, transport nutrients, and prevent further damage to the joint. More importantly, we found that cold-water fish gelatin scaffolds were nonimmunogenic, nontoxic, and biodegradable. We also implanted the scaffold into defective rat cartilage for 12 weeks and achieved satisfactory repair results in this animal model. Thus, cold-water fish skin gelatin scaffolds may have broad application potential in regenerative medicine.

Abstract
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) developed by microorganisms is considered one of the most critical public health issues worldwide. This problem is affecting the lives of millions of people and needs to be addressed promptly. Mainly, antibiotics are the substances that contribute to AMR in various strains of bacteria and other microorganisms, leading to infectious diseases that cannot be effectively treated. To avoid the use of antibiotics and similar drugs, several approaches have gained attention in the fields of materials science and engineering as well as pharmaceutics over the past five years. Our focus lies on the design and manufacture of polymeric-based materials capable of incorporating antimicrobial agents excluding the aforementioned substances. In this sense, two of the emerging techniques for materials fabrication, namely, electrospinning and 3D printing, have gained significant attraction. In this article, we provide a summary of the most important findings that contribute to the development of antimicrobial systems using these technologies to incorporate various types of nanomaterials, organic molecules, or natural compounds with the required property. Furthermore, we discuss and consider the challenges that lie ahead in this research field for the coming years.

Abstract
Today, society has been more aware of healthy food products and related items containing bioactive compounds, which potentially contribute to human health. Unfortunately, the long-term stability and bioactivity of biologically active compounds against environmental factors compromise their target and effective action. In this way, lab-designed vehicles, such as nanoparticles and nanofibers, provide enough properties for their preservation and suitable delivery. Here, the electrospinning technique acts as an effective pathway for fabricating and designing nanofibers for the entrapments of biomolecules, in which several biopolymers such as proteins, polysaccharides (e.g., maltodextrin, agarose, chitosan), silk, among others, can be used as a wall material. It is likely that chitosan is one of the most employed biomaterials in this field. Therefore, in this review, we reveal the latest advances (over the last 2-3 years) in designing chitosan-based electrospun nanofibers and nanocarriers for encapsulation of bioactive compounds, along with the key applications in smart food packaging as well. Key findings and relevant breakthroughs are a priority in this review to provide a cutting-edge analysis of the literature. Finally, particular attention has been paid to the most promising developments.

Abstract
Recently, non-conventional sources of starch have attracted attention due to their potential to provide cost-effective alternatives to traditional starch. Among non-conventional starches, loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) seed starch is an emerging source of starch consisting of the amount of starch (nearly 20 %). Due to its unique structure, functional properties, and novel applications, it could be utilized as a potential ingredient. Interestingly, this starch has similar properties as commercial starches including high amylose content, small granule size, and high viscosity and heat stability, making it an attractive option for various food applications. Therefore, this review mainly covers the fundamental understanding of the valorization of loquat seeds by extracting the starch using different isolation methods, with preferable structural, morphological, and functional properties. Different isolation and modification methods (wet milling, acid, neutral and alkaline) are effectively used to obtain higher amounts of starch are revealed. Moreover, insight into various analytical techniques including scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray diffraction used to characterize the molecular structure of the starch are discussed. In addition, the effect of shear rate and temperature on rheological attributes with solubility index, swelling power, and color is revealed. Besides, this starch contains bioactive compounds that have shown a positive impact on the enhancement of the shelf-life of the fruits. Overall, loquat seed starches have the potential to provide sustainable and cost-effective alternatives to traditional starch sources and can lead to novel applications in the food industry. Further research is needed to optimize processing techniques and develop value-added products that can be produced at a large scale. However, there is relatively limited published scientific evidence on the structural and morphological characteristics of loquat seed starch. Thus, in this review, we focused on different isolation techniques of loquat seed starch, its structural and functional characteristics, along with potential applications.

Abstract
For several decades, urinary tract infections caused by catheter-associated devices have negatively impacted not only medical device utilization, but also patient health. As such, the creation of catheter materials with both superior biocompatibility and antibacterial properties has become necessary. This study aimed to produce electrospun membranes based on polylactic acid (PLA) with the incorporation of black phosphorus nanosheets (BPNS) and nano-zinc oxide (nZnO) particles, as well as a mixture of both, in order to design bifunctional membranes with enhanced bioactivity and antibacterial features. The optimum spinning process was determined through examination of various PLA mass concentrations, spinning solution propelling speeds, and receiving drum rotating speeds, with emphasis on the mechanical properties of PLA membranes. Additionally, the antibacterial properties and cytocompatibility of the ZnO-BP/PLA antibacterial membranes were explored. Results demonstrated that the ZnO-BP/PLA antibacterial membranes displayed a rich porous structure, with uniform distribution of nZnO particles and BPNS. With the increase of polylactic acid concentration and the decrease of spinning solution advancing and drum rotation speeds, the mechanical properties of the fiber membrane were significantly improved. Furthermore, the composite membranes exhibited remarkable photothermal therapy (PTT) capabilities when aided by the synergistic effect of BP nanosheets and ZnO. This was achieved through near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, which not only dissipated the biofilm but also enhanced the release capability of Zn2+. Consequently, the composite membrane demonstrated an improved inhibitory effect on both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The results of cytotoxicity and adhesion experiments also indicated good cytocompatibility, with cells growing normally on the surface of the ZnO-BP/PLA antibacterial membrane. Overall, these findings validate the utilization of both BPNS and n-ZnO fillers in the creation of novel bifunctional PLA-based membranes, which possess both biocompatibility and antibacterial properties for interventional catheter materials.

Abstract
Renewable yet biodegradable natural fiber (e.g., cellulose nanofiber (CNF)) reinforced bio-based polymers (e.g., polylactic acid (PLA)) are being applied for the manufacture of clean packaging products. The interface incompatibility between hydrophilic CNF and hydrophobic PLA still restricts the promotion of high-performance bio-based products. Herein, a polycondensate-coated CNF hybrid, wherein silane, aluminate, and titanate coupling agent monomers were in-situ polymerized onto the CNF surface via dehydration self-condensation, was designed and further employed as strengthening/toughening nanofillers for fabricating the CNF-reinforced PLA composite. Results showed that the polycondensate coatings could efficiently promote the dispersion of CNFs and enhance interfacial compatibility between CNFs and PLA. Attributing to the synergistic effect of polycondensate coatings and CNFs, a considerable improvement in processing, mechanical and thermal properties was obtained in resultant CNF/PLA composites. With adding 2.5 wt% polycondensate-coated CNFs, the tensile strength, Young's modulus, and tensile toughness of CNF-reinforced PLA composites was raised by about 27 %, 51 % and 68 %, respectively; also, such composite possessed greater elasticity and higher melt strength than pure PLA. This study provides a novel interface control strategy to fabricate low-cost yet high-performance PLA-based composites for sustainable packaging application.

Abstract
In this study we have employed a polymer processing method based on solvent vapor annealing in order to condense relatively large amounts of solvent vapors onto thin films of block copolymers and thus to promote their self-assembly into ordered nanostructures. As revealed by the atomic force microscopy, a periodic lamellar morphology of poly(2-vinylpyridine)-b-polybutadiene and an ordered morphology comprised of hexagonally-packed structures made of poly(2-vinylpyridine)-b-poly(cyclohexyl methacrylate) were both successfully generated on solid substrates for the first time.

Abstract
Developing green and efficient methods for the delivery of active food substances is a sustained demand for food scientists and industries. In this work, for the first time, we prepared a curcumin (CUR)-loaded starch-based fast-dissolving nanofiber by electrospinning technology. This green nanofiber was obtained by incorporating CUR with octenyl succinic anhydride starch (OSA) and pullulan (PUL) matrix using pure water as the solvent. To overcome the poor water-solubility and bioavailability of CUR, hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) was used to form inclusion complexes. Phase solubility test results showed that by introducing HPβCD, the water-solubility of CUR was obviously improved. The prepared electrospun nanofibers were systematically characterized through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), encapsulation efficiency testing, solubility testing and antioxidant activity testing. The results demonstrated that CUR was well encapsulated into HPβCD and OSA/PUL/CUR-HPβCD electrospun nanofibers with fine morphology and fast-dissolving character were successfully prepared. It is worth noting that the whole process and raw materials were green, suggesting that the prepared fast-dissolving nanofiber has great application potential in the food and pharmaceutical fields.

Abstract
This work presents the fabrication and characterization of a hybrid nanostructure, Ziziphora clinopodioides essential oils (ZEO)-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (CSNPs-ZEO) embedded into cellulose acetate (CA) nanofibers (CA-CSNPs-ZEO). The CSNPs-ZEO were first synthesized through the ionic gelation method. Then, through simultaneous electrospraying and electrospinning processes, the nanoparticles were embedded in the CA nanofibers. The morphological and physicochemical characteristics of the prepared nanostructures were evaluated using different methods, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), water vapor permeability (WVP), moisture content (MC), mechanical testing, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and release profile studies. The antibacterial activity of the nanostructures was explored on raw beef as a food model during 12 days of storage at 4 °C. The obtained results indicated the successful synthesis of CSNPs-ZEO nanoparticles with an average size of 267 ± 6 nm and their incorporation into the nanofibers matrix. Moreover, the CA-CSNPs-ZEO nanostructure showed a lower water vapor barrier and higher tensile strength compared with ZEO-loaded CA (CA-ZEO) nanofiber. The CA-CSNPs-ZEO nanostructure also exhibited strong antibacterial activity, which effectively extended the shelf-life of raw beef. The results demonstrated a strong potential for innovative hybrid nanostructures in active packaging to maintain the quality of perishable food products.

Abstract
The current review aims to gain knowledge on the biosynthesis and characterization of nanoparticles (NPs), their multifactorial role, and emerging trends of NPs utilization in modern science, particularly in sustainable agriculture, for increased yield to solve the food problem in the coming era. However, it is well known that an environment-friendly resource is in excessive demand, and green chemistry is an advanced and rising resource in exploring eco-friendly processes. Plant extracts or other resources can be utilized to synthesize different types of NPS. Hence NPs can be synthesized by organic or inorganic molecules. Inorganic molecules are hydrophilic, biocompatible, and highly steady compared to organic types. NPs occur in numerous chemical conformations ranging from amphiphilic molecules to metal oxides, from artificial polymers to bulky biomolecules. NPs structures can be examined by different approaches, i.e., Raman spectroscopy, optical spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence, and solid-state NMR. Nano-agrochemical is a unification of nanotechnology and agro-chemicals, which has brought about the manufacture of nano-fertilizers, nano-pesticides, nano-herbicides, nano-insecticides, and nano-fungicides. NPs can also be utilized as an antimicrobial solution, but the mode of action for antibacterial NPs is poorly understood. Presently known mechanisms comprise the induction of oxidative stress, the release of metal ions, and non-oxidative stress. Multiple modes of action towards microbes would be needed in a similar bacterial cell for antibacterial resistance to develop. Finally, we visualize multidisciplinary cooperative methods will be essential to fill the information gap in nano-agrochemicals and drive toward the usage of green NPs in agriculture and plant science study.

Abstract
The skin is a complex layer system and the most important barrier between the environment and the organism. In this review, we describe some widespread skin problems, with a focus on eczema, which are affecting more and more people all over the world. Most of treatment methods for atopic dermatitis (AD) are focused on increasing skin moisture and protecting from bacterial infection and external irritation. Topical and transdermal treatments have specific requirements for drug delivery. Breathability, flexibility, good mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and efficacy are important for the patches used for skin. Up to today, electrospun fibers are mostly used for wound dressing. Their properties, however, meet the requirements for skin patches for the treatment of AD. Active agents can be incorporated into fibers by blending, coaxial or side-by-side electrospinning, and also by physical absorption post-processing. Drug release from the electrospun membranes is affected by drug and polymer properties and the technique used to combine them into the patch. We describe in detail the in vitro release mechanisms, parameters affecting the drug transport, and their kinetics, including theoretical approaches. In addition, we present the current research on skin patch design. This review summarizes the current extensive know-how on electrospun fibers as skin drug delivery systems, while underlining the advantages in their prospective use as patches for atopic dermatitis. Abstract
Starch-derived edible films have great potential as biodegradable food packaging and biomedical materials, in this study, we adopted a green method to prepare starch-based composite electrospun nanofibers films. The hydroxypropyl starches (HPS) were prepared to improve native starch solubility and properties, and a series of blend solutions were prepared with different HPS/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) weight ratios. The comparison of the properties of HPS/PVA (HPA) nanofibers with different amylose contents were evaluated, and the fibers fabricated from hydroxypropyl high amylose starch (HP-HAS) had more continuous and homogeneous morphologies compared to the other starch fibers, it was also found that the addition of HP-HAS in the film has better mechanical properties than pure PVA film. Thus, to improve the hydrophobicity of the film, the HP-HAS/PVA (HPA(H)) nanofiber was selected for the hydrophobic study by the citric acid (CA) treatment. The hydrophobic surface was formed on the HPA(H) film by CA self-assembled coating with a water contact angle changed from 30.95° up to 100.74°. This study successfully prepared the modified starch/PVA composite nanofibers and established a simple method of self-assembled hydrophobic modification to improve water stability. Therefore, this green strategy is an alternative candidate in further study for food packaging and relative areas.

Abstract
As part of applications dealing with cardiovascular tissue engineering, drop-cast polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) scaffolds have been treated by cold plasma to enhance their adherence to cardiac cells. The scaffolds were treated in a dielectric barrier device where cold plasma was generated in a gaseous environment combining a carrier gas (helium or argon) with/without a reactive gas (molecular nitrogen). We show that an Ar-N2 plasma treatment of 10 min results in significant hydrophilization of the scaffolds, with contact angles as low as 52.4° instead of 132.2° for native PVDF scaffolds. Correlation between optical emission spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows that OH radicals from the plasma phase can functionalize the surface scaffolds, resulting in improved wettability. For all plasma-treated PVDF scaffolds, the adhesion and maturation of primary cardiomyocytes is increased, showing a well-organized sarcomeric structure (α-actinin immunostaining). The efficacy of plasma treatment was also supported by real-time PCR analysis to demonstrate an increased expression of the genes related to adhesion and cardiomyocyte function. Finally, the biocompatibility of the PVDF scaffolds was studied in a cardiac environment, after implantation of acellular scaffolds on the surface of the heart of healthy mice. Seven and 28 days after implantation, no exuberant fibrosis and no multinucleated giant cells were visible in the grafted area, hence demonstrating the absence of foreign body reaction and the biocompatibility of these scaffolds.

Abstract
The gut microbiota dysbiosis is a state which the physiological combinations of flora are transformed into pathological combinations caused by factors such as diets, pollution, and drugs. Increasing evidence shows that dysbiosis is closely related to many diseases. With the continuous development and utilization of marine resources, marine polysaccharides have been found to regulate dysbiosis in many studies. In this review, we introduce the types of dysbiosis and the degree of it caused by different factors. We highlight the regulating effects of marine polysaccharides on dysbiosis as a potential prebiotic. The mechanisms of marine polysaccharides to regulate dysbiosis including protection of intestinal barrier, regulatory effect on gut microbiota, alteration for related metabolites, and some other possible mechanisms were summarized. And we aim to provide some references for the high-value utilization of marine polysaccharides and new targets for the treatment of gut microbiota dysbiosis by this review.
