Abstract
Purpose To describe the beliefs, barriers and promotion practices of Indian nurses' regarding healthy eating (HE) behaviours amongst cancer survivors, and to gain insights into whether their educational qualifications might affect the promotion of HE. Methods Data was gathered using a validated questionnaire, 388 of the approached 400 nurses who worked at a tertiary care hospital in India gave informed consent to participate in the study. The Mann-Whitney U test and the Chi square analysis (for continuous and categorical variables respectively) were performed to carry out sub-group comparisons based on the qualification of the nurses i.e., Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc) and General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM). Results The nurses believed that dieticians/nutritionists were primarily responsible for educating the cancer survivors regarding HE. HE was promoted by nurses' relatively equally across multiple treatment stages ("during" treatment 24.4%, "post" treatment 23.1%; and "pre" treatment 22.3%). Nurses' believed HE practices had numerous benefits, with improved health-related quality of life (HRQoL) (75.7%), and mental health (73.9%) being the most frequent responses. The most frequently cited barriers by the nurses in promoting HE were lack of time (22.2%), and lack of adequate support structure (19.9%). Sub-group comparisons generally revealed no significant difference between the BSc and GNM nurses in their perceptions regarding HE promotion to cancer survivors. Exceptions were how the GNM group had significantly greater beliefs regarding whether HE can "reduce risk of cancer occurrence" (p = 0.004) and "whether or not I promote HE is entirely up to me" (p = 0.002). Conclusion The nurses in India believe in the promotion of HE practices among cancer survivors across various stages of cancer treatments. However, they do face a range of barriers in their attempt to promote HE. Overcoming these barriers might facilitate effective promotion of HE among cancer survivors and help improve survivorship outcomes. Implications for cancer survivors Indian nurses employed in the two tertiary care hospitals wish to promote HE among cancer survivors, but require further knowledge and support services for more effective promotion of HE.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many dog owners alter their dog's nutritional regimen after a diagnosis of cancer. There are limited data as to specific changes made and reasons behind these changes. HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES To collect updated and detailed data on changes made by owners to their dog's diet and supplements after a cancer diagnosis. ANIMALS Responses were collected from a survey of dog owners who brought their dogs to the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital's Oncology Service for the first time after a cancer diagnosis. Dogs with recurrence or presenting for a second type of cancer were excluded. METHODS Eligible owners were surveyed between December 2020 and March 2022. The survey contained 62 questions regarding diet, supplement use, and treats, and how these were altered after a cancer diagnosis. Responses were matched to medical record data. RESULTS One hundred twenty-eight surveys were retained for analysis, including 120 respondents that completed the survey. In response to a cancer diagnosis, 54.8% (95% CI; 45.7%-63.8%) of owners altered diets or supplements or both. The most common informational resource for dog diets was veterinarians (53.9%). Usage of home-prepared foods significantly increased after a cancer diagnosis (P = .03). There was no significant difference in commercial diet usage before or after a diagnosis (P = .25). Joint support products were the most common supplements given both before (37.4%) and after (35.0%) diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE Many dog owners alter their dog's nutritional intake after a cancer diagnosis. These owners should be provided information relating to commonly observed alterations, including home-prepared foods and supplements.

Abstract
The current nutritional guidelines for stomach cancer survivors (SCSs) mainly focus on the influence of the surgical resection of the stomach, with limited guidance regarding a wider range of food options. We aimed to investigate the factors associated with healthier dietary changes in Korean adult SCSs. This cross-sectional study assessed dietary pattern changes after cancer treatment for 11 food categories, using a self-administered questionnaire. A 'healthier dietary change' was operationally defined as a reduced consumption of red and processed meat, grains, salt, and burnt food, and an increased consumption of poultry, fish, vegetables, fruits, legumes, and dairy products. Among a total of 624 SCSs, approximately 60% of participants reported dietary changes in a healthier direction in three or more food categories, while 9.1% reported no changes. There was no significant difference in dietary habit changes between surgery types. Multivariable adjusted analysis showed that elderly and long-term survivors were inversely associated with a healthier dietary change. SCSs with a higher level of educational achievement and income were more likely to make healthier changes in their intake of processed meat, vegetables, fruits, burnt food, or salt. SCSs with higher levels of fear of cancer recurrence, anxiety, or depression were more likely to follow healthier dietary changes regarding fish, meat, fruits, grains, or burnt food. Change in dietary pattern varied across different food items, and was associated with various characteristics of SCSs. It is crucial to repeatedly provide SCSs with information about healthier dietary patterns, considering their sociodemographic, clinical, and psychological characteristics.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effects of mobile health (mHealth) diet interventions on cancer survivors' diet intake, weight change, waist circumference, hip circumference, and quality of life (QoL). Methods The PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Scopus, ProQuest, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, and SinoMed databases were searched from their inception to September 25, 2022. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the effects of mHealth diet interventions in cancer survivors were identified. Two researchers independently selected the included studies and appraised their quality. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the Revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for RCTs (RoB2). Results A total of 15 RCTs involving 2363 cancer survivors were included. MHealth diet interventions significantly improved fruit and vegetable intake (standardized mean difference [SMD] = 0.19, 95% confidence interval [CI] [0.05, 0.33], P < 0.01), and QoL (SMD = 0.13, 95% CI [0.01, 0.26], P = 0.04) and reduced fat intake (SMD = -0.22, 95% CI [-0.34, -0.11], P < 0.01), weight (SMD = -0.35, 95% CI [-0.48, -0.22], P < 0.01), waist circumference (MD = -1.43, 95% CI [-2.33, -0.53], P < 0.01), and hip circumference (MD = -3.54, 95% CI [-4.88, -2.19], P < 0.01) in cancer survivors. No significant differences were observed in energy intake (P = 0.46) or whole grain intake (P = 0.14). Conclusions MHealth diet interventions may be an effective strategy for cancer survivors. Large-scale RCTs with rigorous study designs are needed to examine the effect of diet intervention delivered via mHealth.

Information Provision, Decision Self-efficacy, and Decisional Conflict in Adopting Health Behaviors Among Patients Treated for Colorectal Cancer: A Cross-sectional Study. Cancer Nurs 2023; 46:45-56. Abstract
BACKGROUND Health promotion is necessary to mitigate the negative consequences of colorectal cancer and its treatment. Rates of behavior modification are low in populations of cancer patients. Studies are needed to determine the factors, such as decisional conflict, which influence adoption of healthy behaviors following a cancer diagnosis. OBJECTIVE To examine the effects of information provision, decision self-efficacy, and decisional conflict on the adoption of healthy behaviors among patients with colorectal cancer. METHODS This cross-sectional study focused on 251 patients with colorectal cancer in South Korea. Information provision, decision self-efficacy, and decisional conflict were measured using validated instruments. Patients rated their decisional conflict related to the adoption of behaviors that include regular exercise and a balanced diet. RESULTS Most participants (73%) reported low satisfaction with the amount of information received. Of the participants, 64% had low decision self-efficacy, and 80% experienced decisional conflict. The perception of a higher level of information provision was associated with greater decision self-efficacy (odds ratio, 4.63; 95% confidence interval, 1.61-13.35). Higher decision self-efficacy was associated with lower decisional conflict (odds ratio, 5.19; 95% confidence interval, 2.33-11.59). CONCLUSION Receiving adequate information is important for promoting patients' confidence in making decisions about their health and reducing decisional conflict in the adoption of healthy lifestyle changes following a cancer diagnosis. IMPLICATION FOR PRACTICE Oncology nurses should assess patient information needs and promote decision self-efficacy, thus empowering patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer to make lifestyle decisions that improve their health and quality of life.

Abstract
Purpose Obesity, especially the hidden type of obesity (central obesity), has been believed to be the major risk factor for developing and progressing non-communicable diseases, including cancers. However, there are limited studies regarding the issue in Ethiopia and the study area. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the magnitude of central obesity and its associated factors among cancer patients visited the oncology unit of the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. Methods An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted from January 10 to March 10, 2021. A total of 384 study participants were enrolled using a systematic sampling technique. The data were collected using a semi-structured interviewer-administered questionnaire and were pretested to address the quality of assurance. The weight of the participants was assessed using body mass index (BMI) and central obesity. Both bivariate and multivariate logistic regressions were conducted to identify the factors associated with central obesity, and p-values less than 0.05 with multivariate were considered statistically significant associations. Result Most respondents (60.16%) were stage I cancer patients. The study found that about 19.27% of the participants were prevalent central obesity, and none of them were obese by body mass index (BMI) categorization criteria. However, about 12.24% and 7.03% of the participants were found to be underweight and overweight, respectively. The variables associated with central obesity were sex (AOR=14.40; 95% CI: 5.26 - 39.50), occupation (AOR=4.32; 95%CI: 1.10 - 17.01), and residency (AOR=0.30; 95% CI: 0.13 - 0.70). Conclusion A significant number of the respondents (19.27%) were centrally obese. Being female, urban residency and having an occupation other than a farmer, merchant, and governmental were the factors associated with central obesity. Hence, cancer patients may be centrally obese with average body weight.

Abstract
The recommendation encouraging patients with cancer to keep a normal body mass index (BMI) is largely extrapolated from data on risk of developing cancer. We tested the prospective association between peri-diagnostic (within 1 year post-diagnosis) BMI and all-cause mortality in patients with incident cancers. During 7.2 years of follow-up, 42% (48,340) of the 114 430 patients with cancer died. Spline analysis revealed that compared with a BMI of 22.5, a BMI lower than 22.5 was associated with increased risk of all-cause mortality across 24 cancer types. A BMI higher than 22.5 was associated with reduced all-cause mortality, while a non-linear association was observed; the lowest risk was found at a BMI of 29.6-34.2, and the risk started to return to and above unity at very high BMI values. The reduced mortality risk of high BMI was observed in 23 of 24 cancer types and maintained after attempts to remove potential selection bias, confounding by smoking and comorbidities, and reserve causality. Compared with a normal BMI of 18.5-24.9, the hazard ratios were 0.85 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.83-0.87) for an overweight BMI (25-29.9) and 0.82 (0.80-0.85) for an obese BMI (≥30), and the associations were generally consistent across cancer types and various subgroups. Obese BMI was associated with increased life expectancy, up to 6 years among men and 3 years among women. In conclusion, while overweight/obese BMI increases the risk of developing cancer in the general population, overweight/obese peri-diagnostic BMI was associated with longer survival in cancer patients.

Abstract
Neuroendocrine neoplasms are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms with increasing incidence, high prevalence, and survival worldwide. About 90% of cases are well differentiated forms, the so-called neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), with slow proliferation rates and prolonged survival but frequent development of liver metastases and endocrine syndromes. Both the tumor itself and systemic therapy may have an impact on patient nutrition. Malnutrition has a negative impact on outcome in patients with NETs, as well as obesity. In addition, obesity and metabolic syndrome have been shown to be risk factors for both the development and prognosis of NET. Therefore, dietary assessment based on body composition and lifestyle modifications should be an integral part of the treatment of NET patients. Nutrition plans, properly formulated by a dietician, are an integral part of the multidisciplinary treatment team for patients with NETs because they allow an improvement in quality of life, providing a tailored approach based on nutritional needs and nutritional manageable signs and/or symptoms related to pharmacological treatment. The aim of this review is to condense the latest evidence on the role of the most used dietary models, the Mediterranean diet, the ketogenic diet, and intermittent fasting, in the context of NETs, while considering the clinical and molecular mechanisms by which these dietary models act.

Association between Dietary Fiber Intake and Mortality among Colorectal Cancer Survivors: Results from the Newfoundland Familial Colorectal Cancer Cohort Study and a Meta-Analysis of Prospective Studies. Abstract
Simple Summary High dietary fiber intake has been linked to a lower risk of Colorectal cancer (CRC), but the role of dietary fiber in CRC survival is understudied. We examined dietary fiber intake for its relevance to CRC survival in a cohort of 504 CRC patients and a meta-analysis including results from four prospective cohort studies. We found that high dietary fiber intake was negatively correlated with all-cause mortality and CRC-specific mortality among CRC survivors. These new findings support the protective effect of dietary fiber on CRC survival. By enhancing fiber intake, this research may contribute to the development of novel therapies that add to our armamentarium for CRC. Abstract We examined dietary fiber intake for its relevance to Colorectal cancer (CRC) survival in a cohort of CRC patients and a meta-analysis including results from four prospective cohort studies. We analyzed 504 CRC patients enrolled in the Newfoundland Familial Colorectal Cancer Study (NFCCS) who were newly diagnosed with CRC between 1999 and 2003. Follow-up for deaths was through April 2010. All participants completed a self-administered food frequency questionnaire to evaluate their dietary intakes one year before diagnosis. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard models were used to explore the associations of dietary fiber intake with all-cause mortality and CRC-specific mortality. In the meta-analysis, we identified prospective cohort studies published between January 1991 and December 2021 by searching PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library. Fixed-effects or random-effects models were used to combine the study-specific hazard ratio (HR) from our original analysis and three other cohorts. In the NFCCS, we found that CRC patients with the second quartile of dietary fiber intake had a 42% lower risk of all-cause mortality (HR: 0.58, 95% CI: 0.35–0.98) and 58% lower risk of CRC-specific mortality (HR: 0.42, 95% CI: 0.21–0.87) compared with those with the lowest quartile. In the meta-analysis, a similar inverse association between dietary fiber and total mortality was detected among CRC patients; each 10 g/day increase in dietary fiber intake was associated with a 16% decreased risk of total mortality. The dose–response meta-analysis showed a linear relationship between dietary fiber intake and all-cause mortality, with no sign of a plateau. For CRC-specific mortality, intriguingly, the benefit associated with increasing dietary fiber intake achieved its maximum at approximately 22 g/day, and no further reduction in CRC-specific mortality was observed beyond this intake level. Our results suggest that high dietary fiber intake may be associated with prolonged survival among CRC patients. Our findings add to the sparse literature on the role of dietary fiber in CRC survival.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although pulmonary rehabilitation is helpful for patients following lung cancer surgery, rehabilitation is not widely available, due in part to a lack of medical resources. Recent developments in digital health care have overcome the space limitations associated with in-person health care. This study will evaluate and compare the efficacy of three different smartphone healthcare systems in patients with lung cancer. METHODS This single center randomized controlled study is designed to evaluate the efficacy of digital healthcare applications for lung cancer patients after thoracoscopic lung resection. A total of 320 patients will be enrolled and randomized 1:1:1:1 into four different groups, with one group each using the smartphone applications NOOM, Walkon, and Efilcare and the fourth being the control group without intervention. Questionnaires will be administered to patients at baseline and after 3, 6, and 12 months. The primary endpoint will be the score on the EuroQol five-dimension index. Secondary endpoints will include other questionnaires about quality of life and dyspnea. DISCUSSION This prospective randomized controlled study may allow assessments and comparisons of the efficacy of various smartphone applications in patients who undergo lung cancer surgery. This process may enable the introduction of healthcare interventions that maintain quality of life in patients with lung cancer. Trial registration CRIS, KCT0005447. Abstract
For persons who survive with progressive cancer, nutritional therapy and exercise may be significant factors to improve the health condition and life quality of cancer patients. Nutritional therapy and medications are essential to managing progressive cancer. Cancer survivors, as well as cancer patients, are mostly extremely encouraged to search for knowledge about the selection of diet, exercise, and dietary supplements to recover as well as maintain their treatment consequences, living quality, and survival of patients. A healthy diet plays an important role in cancer treatment. Different articles are studied to collect information and knowledge about the use of nutrients in cancer treatment as well as cancer prevention. The report deliberates nutrition and exercise strategies during the range of cancer care, emphasizing significant concerns during treatment of cancer and for patients of advanced cancer, but concentrating mostly on the requirements of the population of persons who are healthy or who have constant disease following their repossession from management. It also deliberates choice nutrition and exercise problems such as dietary supplements, food care, food selections, and weight; problems interrelated to designated cancer sites, and common questions about diet, and cancer survival. Decrease the side effects of medicines both during and after treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with cancer and caregivers increasingly use the internet to find health and lifestyle information, yet online recipes, diet, and nutrition content are unregulated and may be confusing or even misleading. We describe cancer-related nutrition and meal planning information from Pinterest. METHODS In June 2020, we searched Pinterest using "cancer recipe" and "recipe for cancer" at 3 times daily for 2 weeks. Duplicates were removed for a final sample of n = 103 pins. Each pin was coded for 58 variables including descriptives, cancer claims (eg, treatment, prevention, and cure), and nutrition claims (eg, "turmeric cures cancer"). We summarized each variable to describe the content of cancer nutrition claims on Pinterest and examined associations between claim types and contextual factors, including the use of academic citations, disclaimers, and personal anecdotes. RESULTS Pinners had on average 116,767 followers (range, 0-1.5 million). Almost half of content sites were for profit (48.5%) and 34% were selling a product. Health claims were common, with content that purported to prevent (41.8%), treat (27.2%), or cure (10.7%) cancer. Vague phrases such as "anti-cancer," "cancer-fighting," or "cancer-busting" were also used. The inclusion of validity indicators including academic citations, disclaimers, and personal anecdotes varied significantly by the types of claims made. Together, these analyses informed the development of a conceptual framework of cancer-related nutrition misinformation. CONCLUSIONS There are clear financial incentives for the promotion of cancer nutrition information online. More research is needed to understand how exposure to nutrition information can influence patient/caregiver behavior and downstream clinical and psychosocial outcomes.

Abstract
Background Physical activity is known to have anti-cancer effects, including immunomodulatory actions. This study investigated the hypothesis that physical activity synergizes with combined lenvatinib plus anti-PD-1 therapy to enhance efficacy in patients with unresectable HCC. Methods The physical activity levels of patients with unresectable HCC receiving combined lenvatinib plus anti-PD-1 therapy were recorded by questionnaire. Patients were categorized according to physical activity levels (active vs. sedentary). The primary outcome was overall survival (OS). Secondary outcomes included objective response rate (ORR) and progression-free survival (PFS). A subcutaneous syngeneic HCC model was generated in C57BL/6 mice. Mice were randomized to receive placebo, combined lenvatinib plus anti-PD-1 antibodies or combination therapy plus physical activity. Tumors were measured every 3 days and harvested for immunohistochemistry analysis at 20 mm maximum diameter. Results Fifty-nine patients with unresectable HCC were categorized to active (n = 28) or sedentary (n = 31) groups. The active group had higher albumin and des-γ-carboxy prothrombin levels and lower hepatitis B virus load at baseline; other clinical and oncologic characteristics were comparable between the two groups. Patients in the active group had significantly longer OS (HR = 0.220, 95% CI 0.060–0.799) and PFS (HR = 0.158, 95% CI 0.044–0.562) and higher ORR (OR = 4.571, 95% CI 1.482–14.102) than patients in the sedentary group. Regular physical activity was independently associated with OS, PFS and ORR. The mouse model showed that physical activity significantly suppressed tumor growth and prolonged survival of tumor-bearing mice. Furthermore, physical activity inhibited Treg cell infiltration and immune checkpoint expression (including CTLA4, TIGIT and TIM3) induced by long-term combined lenvatinib plus anti-PD-1 therapy, improving efficacy. Conclusions Regular physical activity was associated with improved outcomes in unresectable HCC receiving combined lenvatinib plus anti-PD-1 therapy. Physical activity may improve therapeutic efficacy by reprograming the tumor microenvironment from an immunosuppressive to immunostimulatory phenotype. Abstract
Nutritional habits can have a significant impact on cardiovascular health and disease. This may also apply to cardiotoxicity caused as a frequent side effect of chemotherapeutic drugs, such as doxorubicin (DXR). The aim of this work was to analyze if diet, in particular creatine (Cr) supplementation, can modulate cardiac biochemical (energy status, oxidative damage and antioxidant capacity, DNA integrity, cell signaling) and functional parameters at baseline and upon DXR treatment. Here, male Wistar rats were fed for 4 weeks with either standard rodent diet (NORMAL), soy-based diet (SOY), or Cr-supplemented soy-based diet (SOY + Cr). Hearts were either freeze-clamped in situ or following ex vivo Langendorff perfusion without or with 25 μM DXR and after recording cardiac function. The diets had distinct cardiac effects. Soy-based diet (SOY vs. NORMAL) did not alter cardiac performance but increased phosphorylation of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), indicating activation of rather pro-catabolic AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling, consistent with increased ADP/ATP ratios and lower lipid peroxidation. Creatine addition to the soy-based diet (SOY + Cr vs. SOY) slightly increased left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP) and contractility dp/dt, as measured at baseline in perfused heart, and resulted in activation of the rather pro-anabolic protein kinases Akt and ERK. Challenging perfused heart with DXR, as analyzed across all nutritional regimens, deteriorated most cardiac functional parameters and also altered activation of the AMPK, ERK, and Akt signaling pathways. Despite partial reprogramming of cell signaling and metabolism in the rat heart, diet did not modify the functional response to supraclinical DXR concentrations in the used acute cardiotoxicity model. However, the long-term effect of these diets on cardiac sensitivity to chronic and clinically relevant DXR doses remains to be established.

Abstract
Cancer is defined as a large group of diseases that is associated with abnormal cell growth, uncontrollable cell division, and may tend to impinge on other tissues of the body by different mechanisms through metastasis. What makes cancer so important is that the cancer incidence rate is growing worldwide which can have major health, economic, and even social impacts on both patients and the governments. Thereby, the early cancer prognosis, diagnosis, and treatment can play a crucial role at the front line of combating cancer. The onset and progression of cancer can occur under the influence of complicated mechanisms and some alterations in the level of genome, proteome, transcriptome, metabolome etc. Consequently, the advent of omics science and its broad research branches (such as genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, and so forth) as revolutionary biological approaches have opened new doors to the comprehensive perception of the cancer landscape. Due to the complexities of the formation and development of cancer, the study of mechanisms underlying cancer has gone beyond just one field of the omics arena. Therefore, making a connection between the resultant data from different branches of omics science and examining them in a multi-omics field can pave the way for facilitating the discovery of novel prognostic, diagnostic, and therapeutic approaches. As the volume and complexity of data from the omics studies in cancer are increasing dramatically, the use of leading-edge technologies such as machine learning can have a promising role in the assessments of cancer research resultant data. Machine learning is categorized as a subset of artificial intelligence which aims to data parsing, classification, and data pattern identification by applying statistical methods and algorithms. This acquired knowledge subsequently allows computers to learn and improve accurate predictions through experiences from data processing. In this context, the application of machine learning, as a novel computational technology offers new opportunities for achieving in-depth knowledge of cancer by analysis of resultant data from multi-omics studies. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning can have revolutionary roles in the fight against cancer.

Abstract
A comprehensive understanding of the quality of life (QoL) is essential to establish long-term survivor care plans. The present study was aimed at the assessment of QoL of BC survivors with special emphasis on post-treatment physical, emotional, social, and spiritual challenges. We have assessed the QoL of 250 female BC survivors of all age groups through demographic factors. Volunteer BC survivors were registered in the present study who had got treatment from the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (INMOL) hospital and Mayo hospital Lahore. An informed consent form was signed by each participant. The physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being was evaluated by a questionnaire filled with the help of respondents. The average age of BC survivors was 52 ± 7.8 years. Most of them (83%) complained of fatigue during daily life activities, 75.1% body pain or headache, 77.1% had problems with appetite, 63.2% reported weight loss, 77.1% had sleep problems, and 90.5% were feeling general weakness. Only 16.2% were satisfied with their physical health and 2% were not satisfied with their medication. Psychologically, 74.4% were feeling different levels of anxiety, only 10% of them were hoping to achieve a desired life. Age group 21 to 40 years reported better physical health, those with 40-50 years of age and family history of BC have shown better mental strength. The physical and psychological health of survivors from rural areas was comparatively better than those from urban areas. The BC survivor women have to face several physical, psychological and social challenges. The majorities of them complain of anxiety, body pain, fatigue, sleep problems, general weakness, and fear about the future. Our findings suggest the need for psychological support, physical activity a comprehensive post-diagnosis and post-treatment physical and mental health assistance plan for all BC survivors. Implications for Cancer Survivors. Survivors of breast cancer experience various challenges including anxiety, sleep problems, body pain, fatigue, and fear about the future. The psychological, physical and social factors make a great difference in their quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES The aims of this study were to (1) document currently available guidelines aimed at healthcare professionals and including some information on the nutritional management of cancer survivors in Europe; (2) assess the quality of these guidelines and (3) document the nutrition recommendations promoted. METHODS Four search strategies were implemented in 2018 and updated in 2021 to locate guidelines. Papers were included if they described a European guideline or recommendation for cancer survivors that contained nutrition guidance and there were no language restrictions. Two reviewers independently assessed guideline quality using the AGREE II instrument and nutrition content was extracted and summarised. RESULTS Five guidelines (of 593 documents located through the searches) met the inclusion criteria. The ESPEN guidelines were deemed to have the highest methodological quality. Limited information on nutrition was available in these guidelines with the majority of focus being on the promotion of fruit, vegetables and wholegrains and reducing fat, red meat and alcohol. Weight management was mentioned by all five guidelines. There was no detailed information available for cancer survivors or their healthcare team and no practical strategies for the implementation of recommendations. CONCLUSIONS There is a need for nutrition guidelines specific for cancer survivors in a European setting. Current guidelines are limited and focus on broad recommendations, while lacking in practical strategies for implementation. There is also a tendency to recommend cancer prevention guidelines be used for cancer survivors rather than developing specific guidance for this group.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The increasing colorectal cancer (CRC) survivor population highlights the need for dietary recommendations in order to enhance health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and alleviate symptoms of fatigue, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), and gastrointestinal problems. OBJECTIVES Because of the therapeutic potential of dietary fiber on the gut, we aim to assess longitudinal associations of postdiagnostic dietary fiber, fruit, and vegetable intake, a major source of dietary fiber, with HRQoL, fatigue, CIPN, and gastrointestinal symptoms in CRC survivors from 6 wk to 24 mo posttreatment. METHODS In a prospective cohort among stage I-III CRC survivors (n = 459), 5 repeated study measurements between diagnosis and 24 mo posttreatment were executed. Dietary fiber intake and fruit and vegetable intake were measured by 7-d dietary records. HRQoL, fatigue, CIPN, and gastrointestinal symptoms were measured by validated questionnaires. We applied confounder-adjusted linear mixed models to analyze longitudinal associations from 6 wk until 24 mo posttreatment and used hybrid models to disentangle the overall association into intraindividual changes and interindividual differences over time. RESULTS Higher dietary fiber intake and fruit and vegetable intake were longitudinally associated with statistically significant better physical functioning and less fatigue. Intraindividual analyses showed that an increase of 10 g/d in dietary fiber within individuals over time was associated with better physical functioning (β: 2.3; 95% CI: 0.1, 4.4), role functioning (ability to perform daily activities; 5.9; 1.5, 10.3), and less fatigue (-4.1; -7.7, -0.5). An average increase in fruit and vegetable intake of 100 g/d between individuals over time was predominantly associated with less fatigue (-2.2; -4.2, -0.3). No associations were found with CIPN and gastrointestinal symptoms. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that increasing dietary fiber, fruit, and vegetable intake is related to better physical and role functioning and less fatigue in the first 2 y after the end of treatment for CRC.

Abstract
Background Although physical activity (PA) and sedentary time in cancer survivors (CSs) were associated with health-related quality of life (HRQOL), it was not clear whether their associations were similar among CSs with different number of comorbid chronic diseases (CCDs). This study aimed to investigate the associations between PA, sedentary time and HRQOL in CSs with different number of CCDs. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1546 CSs between June and September 2018 in Shanghai, China. Data were collected with a self-reported questionnaire including sociodemographic characteristics, CCDs, PA, sedentary time and HRQOL. International Physical Activity Questionnaire and Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core30 were respectively used to measure PA and HRQOL of CSs. Associations of PA and sedentary time with HRQOL among CSs with different number of CCDs were evaluated by using logistic regression, adjusted for confounding factors. Results About seventy-five percent CSs had at least one CCD. Approximately three fifths CSs had high PA level and < 4 h/day sedentary time. Moderate PA level and high PA level were shown to be associated with better HRQOL among all participants. In CSs with ≤ 2 CCDs, high PA level was significantly associated with higher scores of physical function and lower scores of nausea and vomiting, appetite loss. However, there was a positive association between high PA level and constipation score among CSs with ≥ 3 CCDs. CSs with shorter sedentary time had better HRQOL in those with CCDs. Conclusions High PA level and long sedentary time have significant association with worse HRQOL of CSs with ≥ 3 CCDs, while high PA level is positively associated with HRQOL in CSs with ≤ 2 CCDs. Our findings may support further studies of the causal association between PA, sedentary times and HRQOL to provide targeted proposal to improve the HRQOL of CSs according to their number of CCDs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The influence of a high sugar diet on colorectal cancer (CRC) survival is unclear. METHODS Among 1463 stage I-III CRC patients from the Nurses' Health Study and Health Professionals Follow-up Study, we estimated hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for CRC-specific and all-cause mortality in relation to intake of post-diagnosis sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB), artificially sweetened beverages (ASB), fruit juice, fructose and other sugars. RESULTS Over a median 8.0 years, 781 cases died (173 CRC-specific deaths). Multivariable-adjusted HRs for post-diagnosis intake and CRC-specific mortality were 1.21 (95% CI: 0.87-1.68) per 1 serving SSBs per day (serving/day) and 1.24 (95% CI: 0.95-1.63) per 20 grams fructose per day. Significant positive associations for CRC-specific mortality were primarily observed ≤5 years from diagnosis (HR per 1 serving/day of SSBs = 1.59, 95% CI: 1.06-2.38). Significant inverse associations were observed between ASBs and CRC-specific and all-cause mortality (HR for ≥5 versus <1 serving/week = 0.44, 95% CI: 0.26-0.75 and 0.70, 95% CI: 0.55-0.89, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Higher post-diagnosis intake of SSBs and sugars may be associated with higher CRC-specific mortality, but only up to 5 years from diagnosis, when more deaths were due to CRC. The inverse association between ASBs and CRC-specific mortality warrants further examination.

Abstract
Background A significant proportion of cancer survivors have overweight or obesity. Although this has negative implications for health, weight management is not a standard component of oncology aftercare. Mobile health (mHealth) technology, in combination with behavior change techniques (BCTs), has the potential to support positive lifestyle changes. Few studies have been carried out with cancer survivors; therefore, the acceptability of these tools and techniques requires further investigation. Objective The aim of this study is to examine the acceptability of a behavior change intervention using mHealth for cancer survivors with a BMI of 25 or more and to gather constructive feedback from participants. Methods The intervention consisted of educational sessions and an 8-week physical activity goal setting intervention delivered using mobile technology (ie, Fitbit activity monitor plus SMS contact). In the context of a two-arm randomized controlled trial, semistructured interviews were conducted to assess the retrospective acceptability of the intervention from the perspective of the recipients. The theoretical framework for the acceptability of health care interventions was used to inform a topic guide. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis. A quantitative survey was also conducted to determine the acceptability of the intervention. A total of 13 participants were interviewed, and 36 participants completed the quantitative survey. Results The results strongly support the acceptability of the intervention. The majority of the survey respondents held a positive attitude toward the intervention (35/36, 97%). In qualitative reports, many of the intervention components were enjoyed and the mHealth components (ie, Fitbit and goal setting through text message contact) were rated especially positively. Responses were mixed as to whether the burden of participating in the intervention was high (6/36, 17%) or low (5/36, 14%). Participants perceived the intervention as having high efficacy in improving health and well-being (34/36, 94%). Most respondents said that they understood how the intervention works (35/36, 97%), and qualitative data show that participants’ understanding of the aim of the intervention was broader than weight management and focused more on moving on psychologically from cancer. Conclusions On the basis of the coherence of responses with theorized aspects of intervention acceptability, we are confident that this intervention using mHealth and BCTs is acceptable to cancer survivors with obesity or overweight. Participants made several recommendations concerning the additional provision of social support. Future studies are needed to assess the feasibility of delivery in clinical practice and the acceptability of the intervention to those delivering the intervention. Abstract
Purpose: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and health behaviors contribute to cancer morbidity and mortality, which are elevated in lesbian and bisexual women (LBW). The purpose of this study was to assess differences in HRQoL and health behaviors between heterosexual and lesbian women and heterosexual and bisexual women cancer survivors. Methods: We pooled 2013-2018 National Health Interview Survey data. HRQoL comprised physical, mental, financial, and social health domains. Health behaviors included tobacco and alcohol use, physical activity, and preventive health care. Weighted, multivariable logistic regression models estimated odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: The sample included 10,830 heterosexual, 141 lesbian, and 95 bisexual cancer survivors. Lesbian women reported higher odds of fair/poor self-rated health (OR: 1.68, 95% CI 1.02-2.78), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (OR: 1.98, 95% CI 1.09-3.56), and heart conditions (OR: 1.90, 95% CI 1.16-3.12) than heterosexual women. Bisexual women reported higher odds of severe psychological distress (OR: 3.03, 95% CI 1.36-6.76), heart conditions (OR: 1.98, 95% CI 1.12-3.53), and food insecurity (OR: 2.89, 95% CI 1.29-6.50) than heterosexual women. For health behaviors, lesbian women reported greater odds of current (OR: 2.34, 95% CI 1.26-4.34) and former tobacco use (OR: 1.89, 95% CI 1.21-2.96), and bisexual women had lower odds of a recent mammogram (OR: 0.42, 95% CI 0.23-0.78) than heterosexual women. Conclusions: LBW cancer survivors reported disparities in HRQoL and health behaviors. In cancer care settings, identification of LBW patients requiring physical and mental health promotion, financial services, and supported tobacco cessation may improve health and survival.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Cancer is the second most common chronic disease and cause of death in the United States. Our aim was to evaluate the associations of sedentary behavior and nutrient intakes with total and cancer-specific mortality among US cancer survivors. METHODS Data from 2371 cancer survivors collected by the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 1999 and 2014 were linked to the US mortality registry. Multivariable adjusted Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate the hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for all-cause and cancer-specific mortality associated with sedentary time and nutrient intakes. The interaction between time spent on sedentary activities and nutrient intake was evaluated on additive and multiplicative scales. RESULTS During a median observational period of 5.7 years, 532 total deaths occurred among cancer survivors, of which 180 were cancer-specific. A monotonic increasing linear relationship between time spent sitting and all-cause mortality was observed (HR = 1.15, 95% CI = 1.03, 1.28 per one standard deviation increment). The highest versus the lowest tertiles of intakes of dietary fiber, carotene, niacin, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, and vitamin C were inversely associated with all-cause and cancer-specific mortality (HRs = 0.48 to 0.75). The inverse associations with all-cause mortality were more pronounced for combinations of low sedentary behaviour and high intakes of dietary fiber, carotenoids, vitamin B12, and vitamin C. CONCLUSION Our findings support recommendations for cancer survivors to reduce time spent sedentary and to follow a balanced diet with adequate intakes of dietary fiber and micronutrients.

Abstract
Supervised exercise dietary programs are recommended to relieve cancer-related fatigue and weight increase induced by adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer (EBC). As this recommendation lacks a high level of evidence, we designed a multicenter randomized trial to evaluate the impact of an Adapted Physical Activity Diet (APAD) education program on fatigue. We randomized 360 women with EBC who were receiving adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy to APAD or usual care at eight French cancer institutions. Data were collected at baseline, end of chemotherapy, end of radiotherapy, and 6 months post-treatment. The primary endpoint was the general cancer-related fatigue score using the MFI-20 questionnaire. Fatigue correlated with the level of precariousness, but we found no significant difference between the two groups in terms of general fatigue (p = 0.274). The APAD arm has a smaller proportion of patients with confirmed depression at the end of follow-up (p = 0.052). A transient modification in physical activity levels and dietary intake was reported in the experimental arm. However, a mixed hospital- and home-based APAD education program is not enough to improve fatigue caused by adjuvant treatment of EBC. Cancer care centers should consider integrating more proactive diet-exercise supportive care in this population, focusing on precarious patients.

Abstract
Nuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) are a group of rare neoplasms originating from dispersed neuroendocrine cells, mainly of the digestive and respiratory tract, showing characteristic histology and immunoprofile contributing to classification of NENs. Some NENs have the ability to produce biogenic amines and peptide hormones, which may be associated with clinical syndromes like, e.g., the carcinoid syndrome caused by unmetabolized overproduced serotonin, hypoglycemic syndrome in case of insulinoma, or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome accompanying gastrinoma. Diagnostics for these include ultrasound with endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT). Different nuclear medicine procedures can also be used, like somatostatin analogues scintigraphy (SRS) and 68Ga-Dota-Peptide PET/CT, as well as biochemical methods to determine the level of general neuroendocrine markers, such as chromogranin A (CgA), 5-hydroxyindolacetic acid (5-HIAA), synaptopfysin and cell type-specific peptide hormones, and neurotransmitters like gastrin, insulin, serotonin, and histamine. NENs influence the whole organism by modulating metabolism. The treatment options for neuroendocrine neoplasms include surgery, somatostatin analogue therapy, radionuclide therapy, chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapies, alpha-interferon therapy, and inhibitors of serotonin production. In the case of hypersensitivity to biogenic amines, a diet that limits the main sources of amines should be used. The symptoms are usually connected with histamine, tyramine and putrescine. Exogenic sources of histamine are products that take a long time to mature and ferment. Patients with a genetic insufficiency of the diamine oxidase enzyme (DAO), and those that take medicine belonging to the group of monoamine oxidases (MAO), are particularly susceptible to the negative effects of amines. Diet plays an important role in the initiation, promotion, and progression of cancers. As a result of the illness, the consumption of some nutrients can be reduced, leading to nutritional deficiencies and resulting in malnutrition. Changes in metabolism may lead to cachexia in some patients suffering from NENs. The aim of this narrative review was to advance the knowledge in this area, and to determine possibilities related to dietary support. The authors also paid attention to role of biogenic amines in the treatment of patients with NENs. We can use this information to better understand nutritional issues faced by patients with gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP-NENs), and to help inform the development of screening tools and clinical practice guidelines.

Discrepancy between perceived diet quality and actual diet quality among US adult cancer survivors. Eur J Clin Nutr 2020; 74:1457-1464. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Little is known about cancer survivors' self-perception of their dietary quality compared with their measured diet quality and how those perceptions may influence their actual diet. This study aimed to fill this gap using national large datasets. METHODS National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from 2005 to 2014 were used. The healthy eating index (HEI) based on 24-h dietary recall was used to measure diet quality. Logistic regression models were fit to examine the influence of the misperception of eating healthiness on diet quality. RESULTS The agreement between self-perceived and actual diet quality was low (Kappa = 0.06, 95% CI: 0.02, 0.09) among cancer survivors. Over-rating diet quality was associated with a 5.39 lower total HEI score (P < 0.0001), 1.00 lower HEI score for empty calorie intake (P = 0.0028), 0.15 lower score for vegetable intake (P = 0.108), and 0.29 lower score for fruit intake; under-rating one's diet quality was associated with a 7.12 higher total HEI score (P < 0.0001), 2.57 higher HEI score for empty calorie intake (P < 0.0001), 0.02 higher score for vegetable intake (P = 0.904), and 0.84 higher score for fruit intake (P = 0.001). Our multinomial regression estimates suggested that each 10-year increase in age was associated with an increase in the odds of being an over-rater vs. a correct-rater (OR: 11.4, 95% CI: 10.01, 10.2). Hispanics were more likely than non-Hispanic whites to over-rate their diet quality (OR: 1.792, 95% CI: 1.062, 3.024). CONCLUSIONS Tailored nutrition interventions and guidance aimed at reducing the divergence between self-assessed and actual diet quality have the potential to improve cancer survivorship and narrow racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The clinical relevance of inpatient step counts after lung surgery remains unknown. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to identify those factors related to physical activity measured by step count, during the inpatient stay, and its relationship with symptom severity and perceived health status at hospital admission, discharge, and 1 month after discharge. METHODS We studied the inpatient step count of 73 participants who underwent lung resection surgery. The number of steps was measured using a triaxial accelerometer. The health status and the severity of symptoms were examined at hospital admission, discharge, and 1 month after discharge. RESULTS Of the 73 participants, 35 were active and 38 were sedentary during the hospitalization. The mean number of steps walked during 3 inpatient days was 6689 ± 3261 and 523 ± 2273 (P < .001) for the active and sedentary groups, respectively. The dyspnea and fatigue scores in the sedentary group across data collection points (hospital admission, discharge, and follow-up) were significantly worse (P < .01). In regard to pain, the sedentary group presented worse results, than the active group, at discharge and follow-up (P < .01). The correlation analysis indicated significant but weak correlations (r < 0.500) between inpatient steps per day and symptom severity at 1-month follow-up (T2) after surgery. CONCLUSION Inpatient step count may be a risk factor for symptom severity and perceived health status during hospitalization and within the first month after lung resection surgery. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Nurses should consider recommending physical activity during hospitalization for patients after lung resection.

Based on the Chronic Care Model, self-leadership and planning may improve cancer survivors' self-management of their own care. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to examine whether self-leadership skills and planning are associated with performance and maintenance of an exercise program in patients with colorectal cancer. METHODS This cross-sectional study enrolled 251 consecutive patients with colorectal cancer who received primary curative surgery and were undergoing or had completed other therapy at the National University Hospitals from 2 regions in South Korea. Demographic data and measures of self-leadership and planning were obtained from questionnaires and clinical data from hospital databases. Self-leadership was measured using the validated Abbreviated Self-Leadership Questionnaire, and another validated psychometric assessment instrument was used to measure "action planning" and "coping planning." RESULTS Performing and maintaining an exercise program at a level recommended by an American Cancer Society panel correlated with greater self-leadership of behavior awareness and volition, task motivation, and constructive cognition. Greater action planning was associated with performing and maintaining this exercise program for more than 6 months. CONCLUSIONS The results of the current study indicate that having self-leadership and action planning are significantly associated with performing and maintaining an exercise program. IMPLICATION FOR PRACTICE We suggest that care providers try to increase self-leadership and action planning of patients with colorectal cancer to improve their self-management during long-term care.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence of food insecurity among US adults with a history of a cancer diagnosis and to understand if socio-demographic factors and cancer characteristics (i.e., time since diagnosis, cancer type) relate to food insecurity. METHODS This was a secondary analysis of cancer survivors drawn from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) 2011-2014. Weighted analyses included descriptive, bivariate, and multinomial logistic regression. RESULTS Of the cancer survivors identified in the sample (n = 1,022), 8.36% were food insecure. In bivariate analysis, several factors were significantly associated with food insecurity among cancer survivors, including female gender, younger age, non-Hispanic black or Hispanic race/ethnicity, lower income, no insurance coverage, lower education, single relationship status, having children at home, having poor health or diet, and cancer characteristics (i.e., non-melanoma skin cancer, female reproductive cancer). In logistic regression analyses, odds of food insecurity decreased with older age and higher income and increased with poor health, although cancer type was no longer significant. CONCLUSIONS Though a low proportion of cancer survivors indicated being food insecure, food insecurity was evident, and this study identified socio-demographic factors related to food insecurity which may be important to consider in clinical and community health settings serving cancer survivors. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Nutrition is essential throughout the cancer care trajectory, including survivorship. Clinicians should consider processes for screening patients, especially younger and lower income patients, for food insecurity through all stages of treatment and particularly as part of survivorship planning. Furthermore, availability and referral to community partners for nutrition and food support is essential.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM This is a report of the 5-year quality of life (QoL) findings of the BREX-study (n=444). PATIENTS AND METHODS A 12-month exercise intervention was arranged shortly after adjuvant treatments. Physical activity (PA) was assessed by PA diary, physical performance by a 2- km walking test, QoL by the EORTC QLQC30 and BR-23 questionnaires, fatigue by the FACIT-Fatigue scale and depression by the Beck's 13-item depression scale (BDI). RESULTS Participants who improved their PA from baseline to 5-year follow-up were more likely to improve their global health score (RRR=1.02, p=0.016), physical (RRR=1.02, p=0.009), social (RRR=1.03, p=0.013), role functioning (RRR=1.03, p=0.005), and fatigue (RRR=1.02, p=0.002). An improved 2-km walking test was associated to improved global health, physical and role functioning, body image, future perspectives, and fatigue (p=0.011, p<0.001, p=0.001, p=0.021, p=0.012 and p=0.003). No significant difference between the groups was found. CONCLUSION Improvement in PA or physical performance yields a positive change in QoL of breast cancer patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE Fatigue, decreased functionality, and impaired quality of life are some of the most common adverse outcomes of chemo-radiotherapy (CRT). Head and neck cancers (HNC) affect more than half a million individuals globally and its treatment takes a heavy toll on the patient, often affecting their speech, swallowing, and respiratory functions, and as a result they often develop fatigue, depression, and physical inactivity. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of exercise-based rehabilitation on functional capacity, quality of life, fatigue, hemoglobin, and platelet counts in patients with HNC on CRT. PATIENTS AND METHODS A randomized controlled trial was conducted on 148 patients with head and neck cancer undergoing CRT to evaluate the effectiveness of exercise on functional capacity measured by the 6-min walk test, quality of life measured by the Medical Outcomes Survey Short Form 36 v2 questionnaire, fatigue by the NCCN (0-10) scale, hemoglobin, and platelets. The control group received standard physical activity recommendations while the exercise group received a structured exercise program of aerobic and active resistance exercises for a period of 11 weeks. RESULTS There was a significant improvement in the functional capacity (p < 0.001), quality of life (p < 0.001), and prevention of worsening of fatigue (p < 0.001) in the exercise group. The blood parameters did not show a significant difference between the control group and the exercise group. CONCLUSION Our results elucidate that an 11-week structured exercise program for HNC patients receiving CRT helps in improving their functional capacity and quality of life. It also prevents deterioration of fatigue levels in the exercise group.

Abstract
Background Nutrition labeling has been found to affect the amount and type of food intake, with certain groups in the population, such as cancer survivors, being more aware of this information. A higher awareness of nutrition labeling is inversely related to the risk of dyslipidemia. This study therefore assessed the association between awareness of nutrition labeling and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) concentration among cancer survivors in South Korea and in the general population of subjects without a history of cancer. Methods This cross-sectional analysis evaluated 25,156 adults who participated in the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (KNHANES) from 2010 to 2016. Factors influencing the association between awareness of nutrition labeling and HDL-C concentration in cancer survivors and the general population were determined by multiple regression analysis. Results Of the 25,156 participants, 2.88% were cancer survivors and 97.12% had no history of cancer. HDL-C concentrations were higher in subjects who were aware of nutrition labeling than in subjects who were not. Checking or using nutrition labeling had a greater effect on the management of HDL-C concentration for cancer survivors than for the general population. Conclusion Awareness of nutrition labeling was associated with better outcomes, including higher controlled HDL-C levels, and reductions in factors increasing the risk of coronary artery disease and cancer, especially in cancer survivors. Health policymakers or medical professionals should develop programs to promote the use of nutrition labeling among cancer survivors in South Korea. Abstract
Skeletal muscle is a dynamic tissue capable of responding to a large variety of physiological stimuli by adjusting muscle fiber size, metabolism and function. However, in pathological conditions such as cancer and neural disorders, this finely regulated homeostasis is impaired leading to severe muscle wasting, reduced muscle fiber size (atrophy), and impaired function. These disease features develop due to enhanced protein breakdown, which relies on two major degradation systems: the ubiquitin-proteasome and the autophagy-lysosome. These systems are independently regulated by different signalling pathways, which in physiological conditions, determine protein and organelle turnover. However, alterations in one or both systems, as it happens in several disorders, leads to enhanced protein breakdown and muscle atrophy. Although this is a common feature in the different types of muscle atrophy, the relative contribution of each of these systems is still under debate. Here, we will briefly describe the regulation and the activity of the ubiquitin-proteasome and the autophagy-lysosome systems during muscle wasting. We will then discuss what we know regarding how these pathways are involved in cancer induced and in neurogenic muscle atrophy, highlighting common and divergent paths. It is now clear that there is no one unifying common mechanism that can be applied to all models of muscle loss. Detailed understanding of the pathways and proteolysis mechanisms involved in each model will hopefully help the development of drugs to counteract muscle wasting in specific conditions.

Abstract
PURPOSE Although evidence suggests an inverse association between calcium intake and colorectal cancer incidence, the influence of calcium on survival after colorectal cancer diagnosis remains unclear.Experimental Design: We prospectively assessed the association of postdiagnostic calcium intake with colorectal cancer-specific and overall mortality among 1,660 nonmetastatic colorectal cancer patients within the Nurses' Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study. Patients completed a validated food frequency questionnaire between 6 months and 4 years after diagnosis and were followed up for death. Multivariable hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were calculated using Cox proportional hazards regression. RESULTS Comparing the highest with the lowest quartile intake of postdiagnostic total calcium, the multivariable HRs were 0.56 (95% CI, 0.32-0.96; P trend = 0.04) for colorectal cancer-specific mortality and 0.80 (95% CI, 0.59-1.09; P trend = 0.11) for all-cause mortality. Postdiagnostic supplemental calcium intake was also inversely associated with colorectal cancer-specific mortality (HR, 0.67; 95% CI, 0.42-1.06; P trend = 0.047) and all-cause mortality (HR, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.54-0.94; P trend = 0.008), although these inverse associations were primarily observed in women. In addition, calcium from diet or dairy sources was associated with lower risk in men. CONCLUSIONS Higher calcium intake after the diagnosis may be associated with a lower risk of death among patients with colorectal cancer. If confirmed, these findings may provide support for the nutritional recommendations of maintaining sufficient calcium intake among colorectal cancer survivors.

Abstract
Given the recent emphasis on the totality of the diet by national guidelines, we examined the relationship between the quality of diet and overall and cancer-specific mortality among cancer survivors. From the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III), 1191 participants diagnosed with cancer were identified. Healthy Eating Index (HEI) scores were utilized; higher HEI score indicated better adherence to dietary recommendations. During a median follow-up of 17.2 years, a total of 607 cancer-specific deaths occurred. A high-quality diet (highest-quartile HEI score) was associated with decreased risk of overall (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.59, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.45 to 0.77) and cancer-specific (HR = 0.35, 95% CI = 0.19 to 0.63) mortality when compared with a poor-quality diet (lowest-quartile HEI score). Among individual dietary components, the highest-quartile score for saturated fat intake was associated decreased cancer-specific mortality (HR = 0.55, 95% CI = 0.36 to 0.86). Our results highlight the importance of a “total diet” approach to improving survival among cancer patients.

Abstract
Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms with worldwide increasing incidence, high prevalence and survival. Both the tumor itself and the systemic therapy may have an impact on patients' nutrition. Malnutrition negatively impacts on outcome in NETs patients. Moreover, it has been demonstrated that body mass index was a risk factor for NET development and that metabolic syndrome was associated with worse prognosis in these patients. Of note, food could also interact with the metabolism of oral target therapy and antineoplastic agents used for the treatment of progressive NETs. Therefore, the nutritional assessment, based on body composition, and lifestyle modifications should be an integral component of management of the NET patients. The nutrition care plans are an integral part of the multidisciplinary management team for patients with NETs. Nutritionists with expertise in NETs can provide dietary approaches to improve the quality of life and nutritional status during various therapeutic modalities used in patients with NETs. The aim of this review is to critically discuss the importance of nutrition and body composition in patients with NETs.

Abstract
The overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) has been implicated in the development of various chronic and degenerative diseases such as cancer, respiratory, neurodegenerative, and digestive diseases. Under physiological conditions, the concentrations of ROS are subtlety regulated by antioxidants, which can be either generated endogenously or externally supplemented. A combination of antioxidant-deficiency and malnutrition may render individuals more vulnerable to oxidative stress, thereby increasing the risk of cancer occurrence. In addition, antioxidant defense can be overwhelmed during sustained inflammation such as in chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, and neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and aging. Certain antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin D, are essential in regulating biochemical pathways that lead to the proper functioning of the organs. Antioxidant supplementation has been shown to attenuate endogenous antioxidant depletion thus alleviating associated oxidative damage in some clinical research. However, some results indicate that antioxidants exert no favorable effects on disease control. Thus, more studies are warranted to investigate the complicated interactions between ROS and different types of antioxidants for restoration of the redox balance under pathologic conditions. This review highlights the potential roles of ROS and nutritional antioxidants in the pathogenesis of several redox imbalance-related diseases and the attenuation of oxidative stress-induced damages.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the association of support from family and friends for adoption of healthy eating habits and performing exercise with improvements of self-leadership in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). This cross-sectional study examined 251 patients with CRC who received primary curative surgery in South Korea. Demographic and clinical information, receipt of social support for adoption of healthy eating habits and performing exercise and self-leadership were collected. Greater participation by family and the use of rewards for performance of exercise were associated with greater behavioural awareness and volition, greater task motivation and constructive cognition of self-leadership in patients. Patients exercising with friends had greater task motivation in self-leadership. The use of rewards by family was associated with performing and maintaining exercise programme for more than 6 months, and family encouragement to adopt healthy eating habits was associated with excellent quality of diet. Family support for exercising and adopting healthy eating habits had more wide-ranging benefits in self-leadership than support from friends; however, support from each group improved self-leadership. Support from family was valuable for increasing the actual performance of exercise and for helping patients with cancer to adopt healthy diets.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Although high dietary fiber intake has been associated with a lower risk of colorectal cancer (CRC), it remains unknown whether fiber benefits CRC survivors. OBJECTIVE To assess the association of postdiagnostic fiber intake with mortality. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS A total of 1575 health care professionals with stage I to III CRC were evaluated in 2 prospective cohorts, Nurses' Health Study and Health Professionals Follow-up Study. Colorectal cancer-specific and overall mortality were determined after adjusting for other potential predictors for cancer survival. The study was conducted from December 23, 2016, to August 23, 2017. EXPOSURES Consumption of total fiber and different sources of fiber and whole grains assessed by a validated food frequency questionnaire between 6 months and 4 years after CRC diagnosis. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs of CRC-specific and overall mortality after adjusting for other potential predictors for cancer survival. RESULTS Of the 1575 participants, 963 (61.1%) were women; mean (SD) age was 68.6 (8.9) years. During a median of 8 years of follow-up, 773 deaths were documented, including 174 from CRC. High intake of total fiber after diagnosis was associated with lower mortality. The multivariable HR per each 5-g increment in intake per day was 0.78 (95% CI, 0.65-0.93; P = .006) for CRC-specific mortality and 0.86 (95% CI, 0.79-0.93; P < .001) for all-cause mortality. Patients who increased their fiber intake after diagnosis from levels before diagnosis had a lower mortality, and each 5-g/d increase in intake was associated with 18% lower CRC-specific mortality (95% CI, 7%-28%; P = .002) and 14% lower all-cause mortality (95% CI, 8%-19%; P < .001). According to the source of fiber, cereal fiber was associated with lower CRC-specific mortality (HR per 5-g/d increment, 0.67; 95% CI, 0.50-0.90; P = .007) and all-cause mortality (HR, 0.78; 95% CI, 0.68-0.90; P < .001); vegetable fiber was associated with lower all-cause mortality (HR, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.72-0.96; P = .009) but not CRC-specific mortality (HR, 0.82; 95% CI, 0.60-1.13; P = .22); no association was found for fruit fiber. Whole grain intake was associated with lower CRC-specific mortality (HR per 20-g/d increment, 0.72; 95% CI, 0.59-0.88; P = .002), and this beneficial association was attenuated after adjusting for fiber intake (HR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.62-0.96; P = .02). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE Higher fiber intake after the diagnosis of nonmetastatic CRC is associated with lower CRC-specific and overall mortality. Increasing fiber consumption after diagnosis may confer additional benefits to patients with CRC.

Abstract
Nutritional status in patients with neuroendocrine tumours (NETs), especially of gastroenteropancreatic origin, can be deeply affected by excessive production of gastrointestinal hormones, peptides, and amines, which can lead to malabsorption, diarrhoea, steatorrhea, and altered gastrointestinal motility. Besides, the surgical and/or medical management of NETs can lead to alteration of gastrointestinal secretory, motor, and absorptive functions, with both dietary and nutritional consequences. Indeed, disease-related malnutrition is a frequently encountered yet both underrecognized and understudied clinical phenomenon in patients with NETs, with substantial prognostic and socioeconomic consequences. Most of these conditions can be alleviated by a tailored nutritional approach, also with the aim of improving the efficacy of cancer treatments. In this setting, skilled nutritionists can play a fundamental role in the multidisciplinary health care team in NETs management and their presence should be recommended. The aim of this review is to provide dietary advices for each specific condition in patients with NETs, underlining the importance of a nutritional approach to treat malnutrition in this setting. Further, we will provide preliminary evidence coming from our data on the assessment of nutritional status in a single cohort of patients with NETs.

Abstract
In recent years, there has been an explosion in the amount of available information on cancer in parallel with an ever-increasing number of cancer survivors. Cancer patients and long-term survivors are known to be more sensitive to health-related information and dietary changes could represent a potential consequence of this huge availability of messages. In our review about dietary changes after cancer diagnosis, we found that this topic is particularly investigated among the breast cancer population. The literature examined show that breast cancer patients modify their eating habits after diagnosis in a percentage that varies between approximately 30% and 60%. The most reported changes were an increased consumption of fruit and vegetables, a decrease in the consumption of red meat, fats and sugary foods. Patients who reported changes were more likely to be younger, with higher educational levels and with a longer period of time since their diagnosis of cancer. It also emerged that cancer patients are often more likely to use supplements. This topic has not been investigated in cancer patients in Italy, therefore, we propose an approach to explore it with a structured questionnaire: The "ECHO SURVEY - Eating habits CHanges in Oncologic patients".

Abstract
Context: Evidence of an association between dietary patterns and individual foods and the risk of overall mortality among cancer survivors has not been reviewed systematically. Objective: The aim of this meta-analysis of cohort studies was to investigate the association between food intake and dietary patterns and overall mortality among cancer survivors. Data Sources: The PubMed and Embase databases were searched. Study Selection: A total of 117 studies enrolling 209 597 cancer survivors were included. Data Extraction: The following data were extracted: study location, types of outcome, population characteristics, dietary assessment method, risk estimates, and adjustment factors. Results: Higher intakes of vegetables and fish were inversely associated with overall mortality, and higher alcohol consumption was positively associated with overall mortality (RR, 1.08; 95%CI, 1.02–1.16). Adherence to the highest category of diet quality was inversely associated with overall mortality (RR, 0.78; 95%CI, 0.72–0.85; postdiagnosis RR, 0.79; 95%CI, 0.71–0.89), as was adherence to the highest category of a prudent/healthy dietary pattern (RR, 0.81; 95%CI, 0.67–0.98; postdiagnosis RR, 0.77; 95%CI, 0.60–0.99). The Western dietary pattern was associated with increased risk of overall mortality (RR, 1.46; 95%CI, 1.27–1.68; postdiagnosis RR, 1.51; 95%CI, 1.24–1.85). Conclusion: Adherence to a high-quality diet and a prudent/healthy dietary pattern is inversely associated with overall mortality among cancer survivors, whereas a Western dietary pattern is positively associated with overall mortality in this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with cancer are living longer with their disease and have improved survival rates because of early detection and more effective cancer treatments. Lifestyle modification and exercise improve clinical outcomes in breast cancer survivors. OBJECTIVES Exercise has important implications for the survivor and should be integrated into the aftercare trajectory of survivorship. METHODS A literature review of articles published from 2002-2014 was conducted using the key words cancer survivor, survivorship, breast cancer, collaboration, and exercise. PubMed, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and CINAHL® databases were searched. FINDINGS Nurse practitioners can build an environment to motivate patients to exercise, empowering them to be active participants in their own survivorship care. Collaboration is necessary to ensure that healthy lifestyle choices, including exercise, are being discussed and implemented in survivorship care plans to help optimize patient outcomes.

Abstract
Disturbance of oxygen-carbon dioxide homeostasis has an impact on cancer. Little is known about the effect of breath training on cancer patients. Here we report our 10-year experience with morning breathing exercises (MBE) in peer-support programs for cancer survivors.We performed a cohort study to investigate long-term surviving patients with lung cancer (LC) and nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) who practiced MBE on a daily basis. End-tidal breath holding time (ETBHT) after MBE was measured to reflect improvement in alveolar O2 pressure and alveolar CO2 pressure capacity.Patients (female, 57) with a diagnosis of LC (90 patients) and NPC (32 patients) were included. Seventy-six of them were MBE trainees. Average survival years were higher in MBE trainees (9.8 ± 9.5) than nontrainees (3.3 ± 2.8). The 5-year survival rate was 56.6% for MBE trainees and 19.6% for nontrainees (RR = 5.371, 95% CI = 2.271-12.636, P < 0.001). Survival probability of the trainees further increased 17.9-fold for the 10-year survival rate. Compared with the nontrainees, the MBE trainees shows no significant differences in ETBHT (baseline, P = 0.795; 1-2 years, P = 0.301; 3-4 years, P = 0.059) at baseline and within the first 4 years. From the 5th year onwards, significant improvements were observed in ETBHT, aCO2%, PaCO2, and PaO2 (P = 0.028). In total, 18 trainees (40.9%) and 20 nontrainees (74.1%) developed new metastasis (RR = 0.315, 95% CI = 0.108-0.919, P = 0.031).MBE might benefit for the long-term survival in patients with LC and NPC due to improvement in hyperventilation.

Abstract
Importance Oncocardiology is a medical discipline that focuses on the identification, prevention, and treatment of cardiovascular complications related to cancer therapy. This discipline has gained interest from the cardiology community in recent years because of a remarkable increase in the number of cancer survivors and the proliferation of new cancer therapies causing cardiovascular complications, such as hypertension, heart failure, vascular complications, and cardiac arrhythmia. In this review, we provide historical perspectives, highlight new discoveries, and speculate on the opportunity created by merging the research interests and clinical practices of cardiology and oncology. Observations The old paradigm of anthracycline cardiotoxic effects is replaced by new insights that anthracycline targets topoisomerase II β to cause DNA double-strand breaks and a profound change in the transcriptome leading to the generation of reactive oxygen species and the development of mitochondriopathy. Prevention of anthracycline cardiotoxic effects should be based on inhibiting or degrading topoisomerase II β. New challenges were posed by the introduction of trastuzumab and tyrosine kinase inhibitors that revolutionized cancer therapy. The on-target cardiotoxic effects of trastuzumab were owing to a prosurvival benefit of Her2 that binds to neuregulin, whereas the off-target effect of multitargeted tyrosine kinase inhibitors may be mediated by disruption of the vascular endothelial growth factor signaling pathway or the stress-induced angiogenesis. Sensitive imaging techniques, such as global strain, and biomarkers have allowed for early detection of cardiotoxic effects. Early treatment with heart failure medications may be beneficial in preventing the development of late cardiotoxic effects. Conclusions and Relevance Close collaboration between cardiologists and oncologists is required to meet the demand of an increasing number of cancer survivors. New insights based on mechanistic studies or genetic discoveries will pave the way for better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer therapy-induced cardiovascular complications.

Abstract
Background There is some initial evidence that an enhanced physical activity level can improve fquality of life, and possibly survival among patients with lung cancer. The primary aim of this project was to evaluate the impact of physical activity on the quality and quantity of life of lung cancer survivors. Methods Between January 1, 1997, and December 31, 2009, a total of 1466 lung cancer survivors completed a questionnaire with patient-reported outcomes for quality of life (QOL), demographics, disease and clinical characteristics, and a measure of physical activity (Baecke Questionnaire). Chi-square tests compared lung cancer survivors who reported being physically active versus not on a variety of the other covariates. Kaplan-Meier estimates and Cox models evaluated the prognostic importance of physical activity level on Overall Survival (OS). Results Roughly half of the lung cancer survivors had advanced stage disease at the time of survey. Treatment prevalence rates were 61, 54, and 33 % for surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, respectively. The majority (77 %) of survivors reported themselves as physically active. Physically active survivors reported greater activity across all individual Baecke items. Lung cancer survivor-reported QOL indicated the benefits of physical activity in all domains. Survivors receiving chemotherapy or radiation at the time of questionnaire completion were less likely to be physically active (74 and 73 % respectively). In contrast, 84 % of surgical patients were physically active. Disease recurrence rates were the same for physically active and inactive patients (81 % vs 82 %, p = 0.62). Physically active patients survived an average of 4 more years than those who were not physically active (8.4 years versus 4.4 years respectively, log rank p < 0.0001). Conclusions Being physically active was related to profound advantages in QOL and survival in a large sample of lung cancer survivors.
