Abstract
The separation of C2H2/CO2 mixtures is a very important but highly challenging task due to their comparable physical natures and relative sizes. Herein, we report a europium-based 3D microporous MOF with a 4-connected two-nodal net with {4·53·62}2{42·62·82} topology, {[Eu2(pzdc)(ox)2(H2O)4]·5H2O}n (1) (H2pzdc = 2,5-pyrazinedicarboxylic acid, H2ox = oxalic acid), prepared by a hydrothermal method involving in situ generation of 2,5-pyrazinedicarboxylate and oxalate ligands. Two different temperatures were utilized to create two porous materials (1a and 1b) with channels of 4.8 × 5.4 Å and 4.1 × 6.3 Å, and 4.8 × 5.4 and 4.6 × 8.7 Å2, respectively. 1b shows a superior ability to selectively capture C2H2 from C2H2/CO2 as compared with 1a. At 1 bar and 298 K, 1b takes up 4.10 mmol g-1 C2H2 and 1.84 mmol g-1 CO2, respectively. In addition, at 298 K and 1 bar, 1b has a high selectivity for C2H2 over CO2, with an IAST selectivity of 12.7 while the value for 1a is 3.2. The separation of C2H2/CO2 with 1b also exhibits good reusability.

Abstract
A reaction in anhydrous toluene between the formally unsaturated fragment [Ln(hfac)3] (Ln3+ = Eu3+, Gd3+ and Er3+; Hhfac = hexafluoroacetylacetone) and [Al(qNO)3] (HqNO = 8-hydroxyquinoline N-oxide), here prepared for the first time from [Al(OtBu)3] and HqNO, affords the dinuclear heterometallic compounds [Ln(hfac)3Al(qNO)3] (Ln3+ = Eu3+, Gd3+ and Er3+) in high yields. The molecular structures of these new compounds revealed a dinuclear species with three phenolic oxygen atoms bridging the two metal atoms. While the europium and gadolinium complexes show the coordination number (CN) 9 for the lanthanide centre, in the complex featuring the smaller erbium ion, only two oxygens bridge the two metal atoms for a resulting CN of 8. The reaction of [Eu(hfac)3] with [Alq3] (Hq = 8-hydroxyquinoline) in the same conditions yields a heterometallic product of composition [Eu(hfac)3Alq3]. A recrystallization attempt from hot heptane in air produced single crystals of two different morphologies and compositions: [Eu2(hfac)6Al2q4(OH)2] and [Eu2(hfac)6(µ-Hq)2]. The latter compound can be directly prepared from [Eu(hfac)3] and Hq at room temperature. Quantum mechanical calculations confirm (i) the higher stability of [Eu(hfac)3Al(qNO)3] vs. the corresponding [Eu(hfac)3Alq3] and (ii) the preference of the Er complexes for the CN 8, justifying the different behaviour in terms of the Lewis acidity of the metal centre.

Abstract
Here, a new Zn2+ metal organic framework, {[Me2NH2][Zn2(L)(DTZ)]·2DMF·3H2O}n (Zn-MOF), has been synthesized with low-symmetric carboxylic acid ligand 2,6 bis(2',5'-dicarboxyphenyl)pyridine (H4L) as the main ligand and 3,5-diamino-1,2,4-riazole (DTZ) containing an electron-rich N atom as an auxiliary ligand. Because of its high structural stability and adsorption properties, it can be used to efficiently separate CO2/CH4 and C2H2/CH4. In addition, Tb@Zn-MOF was obtained by doping with Tb3+ to partially replace Zn2+. A study of its luminescence sensing performance demonstrated that Tb@Zn-MOF showed intense luminescence properties and can be used for the directional detection of Fe3+ in aqueous solution. Furthermore, PXRD analysis, UV-vis spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were also used to study possible luminescence sensing mechanisms. The recognition mechanism for Fe3+ ions is believed to be caused by electron transfer.

Abstract
Separating acetylene (C2H2) from other light hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide (CO2) mixtures under mild conditions poses significant challenges due to the remarkably similar properties between C2H2 and those gases. For the goal of C2H2 separation, a F-functionalized organic linker, H2F-PyIP = 2-fluorine-5-(4-pyridyl)isophthalic acid, was designed, and the corresponding metal-organic framework (MOF), {[Co2(F-PyIP)2DMF]·4H2O}n (1), was constructed. The MOF with open channels decorated by the active sites of the F groups revealed the exceptional C2H2 uptake and selectivity over CO2, C2H4, and CH4. The breakthrough experiments with different molar ratios of C2H2-C2H4, C2H2-CO2, and other gas mixtures further verified superior separation capacity of the MOF. In particular, the dynamic separation time intervals for gas mixtures (C2H2/CO2 = 1:1, 1:5, 1:10, and 1:20) fell in the range 30-44 min, highlighting the potential of the MOF for tackling the challenging C2H2/CO2 separation process.

Abstract
A pair of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) of JXNU-15 (formulated as [Co6(μ3-OH)6(BTB)2(BPY)3]n, BTB3- = benzene-1,3,5-tribenzoate and BPY = 4,4'-bipyridine) and its fluorinated JXNU-15(F) ([Co6(μ3-OH)6(SFBTB)2(BPY)3]n) based on the fluorous 1,3,5-tri(3,5-bifluoro-4-carboxyphenyl)benzene (SFBTB3-) ligands were presented. The detailed comparisons of the acetylene/carbon dioxide (C2H2/CO2) separation abilities between the isostructural JXNU-15(F) and JXNU-15 were presented. In comparison with the parent JXNU-15, the higher C2H2 uptake, larger adsorption selectivity of the C2H2/CO2 (50/50) mixture, and enhanced C2H2/CO2 separation performance endow JXNU-15(F) with highly efficient C2H2/CO2 separation performance, which is demonstrated by singe-component gas adsorptions and dynamic gas mixture breakthrough experiments. The fluorine substituents exert the crucial effects on the enhanced C2H2/CO2 separation ability of JXNU-15(F) and play the dominant role in the C2H2-framework interactions, as uncovered by computational simulations. This work illustrates a powerful fluorine substitution strategy for boosting C2H2/CO2 separation ability for MOFs.

Abstract
Due to the trade-off barrier between high storage capacity and high selectivity, the controllable and systematic design of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) aiming at performance optimization is still challenging. Herein, considering the effectiveness of alkoxy group functionalization and a pore-space partition strategy, a series of rigid Mg-pacs-MOFs (SNNU-10-n, n = 1-6) with flexible side chains are built for the first time, realizing systematic pore environmental modification. The steric hindrance effects, electron-donating ability, and the flexibility of alkoxy groups are considered as key factors, which lead to a regular change of gas adsorption capacity and selectivity. Notably, methoxy-modified SNNU-10-1 with moderately high storage capacities of C2H2 (139.4 cm3 g-1), C2H4 (100.4 cm3 g-1), CO2 (105.0 cm3 g-1), and high selectivity values for equimolar C2H2/CH4 (431.8), C2H4/CH4 (164.2), and CO2/CH4 (16.1) mixture separation at 273 K and 100 kPa achieves an ideal gas uptake-selectivity balance. Breakthrough experiments verified that it could effectively separate the above-mentioned mixtures under ambient conditions, and GCMC simulation provides a deep understanding of methoxy group functionalization. Undoubtedly, this work not only realizes controllable regulation of gas adsorption behavior but also proves the validity of improving selectivity by alkoxy groups in those platforms with high gas-uptake potential to overcome the trade-off barrier.

Abstract
Considering the importance of C2H2 in industry, it is of great significance to develop porous materials for efficient C2H2/CO2 separation. Besides the high selectivity, the C2H2 adsorption capacity is another vital factor in C2H2/CO2 separation. However, the "trade-off" between these two factors is still perplexing. Rational pore design of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has been proven to be an effective way to solve the above problem. In this work, we have appropriately combined three kinds of strategies in the design of the MOF (FJI-H33), i.e., the introduction of open metal sites, construction of cage-like cavities, and adjustment of moderate pore size. As anticipated, FJI-H33 exhibits both outstanding C2H2 adsorption capacity and high C2H2/CO2 selectivity. At 298 K and 100 kPa, the C2H2 storage capacity of FJI-H33 is 154 cm3/g, while the CO2 uptake is only 80 cm3/g. The ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) selectivity of C2H2/CO2 (50:50) is calculated as high as 15.5 at 298 K. More importantly, the excellent practical separation performance was verified by breakthrough experiments. In addition, the calculation of adsorption sites and relevant energy by density functional theory (DFT) provides a good explanation for the excellent separation performance and pore design strategy.

Abstract
Stereoselective chiral molecules are responsible for specific biological functions in nature. At present, more than half of the prescribed drugs are chiral. Living organisms display divergent pharmacological responses to the enantiomers, leading to altered toxicity, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics. Thus, chiral analysis, separation, and extraction are crucial for ensuring enantiomeric purity to develop safe and effective medication. In recent times, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with appealing structures are gaining importance because of their fascinating properties as a sorbent and stationary phase. MOFs are crystalline porous solid materials built by interconnecting metal ions or clusters and organic linkers. This review explores the advancements in MOFs for the isolation and separation of chiral active pharmaceutical drugs.

Abstract
The single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) transformations of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are fascinating because we can directly observe the change of the crystal structure during the transformation process. It also greatly helps to understand the delicate interaction between the guest molecules and the skeleton framework and therefore fosters a deep understanding of gas storage and separation within the frameworks. Herein, we report two novel MOFs, [Cu8(BCB)4(μ3-OH)2(μ3-O)(H2O)8(Py)5]·16DMF·52H2O (1) and [Cu3(BCB)2(Py)6]·DMF·11H2O (2) (Py = pyridine; DMF = N,N'-dimethylformamide), which were constructed through the self-assembly of Cu2+ and 4,4',4″-benzenetricarbonyltribenzoic acid (H3BCB) by a solvothermal reaction. Although the structure and coordination patterns of compound 1 are pretty different from those of 2, the two Cu-MOFs were prepared from identical ligands and similar reaction conditions. Interestingly, compound 1 will change to 2 wholly and gradually after the addition of a certain amount of Py with a small amount of dilute hydrochloric acid. This conversion represents a scarce example of SCSC transformation involving transition-metal-based MOFs. Moreover, with its microporous nature, compound 2 shows large carbon dioxide (CO2) uptake capability and good selectivity for CO2/N2 separation. Furthermore, both compounds 1 and 2 could be used as excellent heterogeneous catalysts toward the cyanosilylation reaction under solvent-free conditions.

Abstract
The separation of C2H2/CO2 is not only industrially important for acetylene purification but also scientifically challenging owing to their high similarities in physical properties and molecular sizes. Ultramicroporous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can exhibit a pore confinement effect to differentiate gas molecules of similar size. Herein, we report the fine-tuning of pore sizes in sub-nanometer scale on a series of isoreticular MOFs that can realize highly efficient C2H2/CO2 separation. The subtle structural differences lead to remarkable adsorption performances enhancement. Among four MOF analogs, by integrating appropriate pore size and specific binding sites, [Cu(dps)2(SiF6)] (SIFSIX-dps-Cu, SIFSIX = SiF62-, dps = 4.4'-dipyridylsulfide, also termed as NCU-100) exhibits the highest C2H2 uptake capacity and C2H2/CO2 selectivity. At room temperature, the pore space of SIFSIX-dps-Cu significantly inhibits CO2 molecules but takes up a large amount of C2H2 (4.57 mmol g-1), resulting in a high IAST selectivity of 1787 for C2H2/CO2 separation. The multiple host-guest interactions for C2H2 in both inter- and intralayer cavities are further revealed by dispersion-corrected density functional theory and grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations. Dynamic breakthrough experiments show a clean C2H2/CO2 separation with a high C2H2 working capacity of 2.48 mmol g-1.

Abstract
Two lanthanide-based MOFs (Ln-MOFs) were synthesized by reaction of Eu(III) or Tb(III) perchlorates with mixed dicarboxylates of 3,5-pdc and 1,2-bdc (3,5-H2pdc = 3,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid; 1,2-H2bdc = 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid) by hydrothermal method. The chemical formulas of the two complexes were [Eu2(3,5-pdc)(1,2-bdc)2(H2O)4]n (1) and {[Tb2(3,5-pdc)(1,2-bdc)2(H2O)4]·2H2O}n (2). IR spectra and element analyses were tested to characterize the two compounds. The crystal structures were determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. MOF 1 was 3D porous network structure but MOF 2 was 2D layered structure. The two MOFs emitted the characteristic fluorescence of Eu(III) or Tb(III) ion with the excitations of UV-rays. Their lifetimes of excited states for Eu(III) (5D0) and Tb(III) (5D4) were 0.31 and 0.82 ms. The absolute quantum yields (Фa) of MOF1 and 2 were also tested and the Фa(1) (λex = 320 nm) and Фa(2) (λex = 296 nm) were 15% and 48%, respectively.

Abstract
On the basis of the lanthanide metalloligand [Ln(ODA)3]3- (H2ODA = oxydiacetic acid), three new Na-Ln heterometallic coordination polymers, [Ln(ODA)3Na2]n [Ln = Eu (1) and Gd (2)] and [Tb(ODA)3Na3(H2O)2]n (3), had been assembled by adjusting the concentration of Na+ ions in the reaction system. The investigations of fluorescence sensing showed that 1 could be a ratiometric probe to detect tetracycline (TC) and oxytetracycline (OTC) with high sensitivity and low detection limits, 71.92 ppb for the former and 45.54 ppb for the latter, and 3 could selectively sense 4-(phenylazo)aniline through the turn-off pathway with 14.59 ppb of detection limits. Moreover, the competing and circulating experiments indicated that both 1 and 3 had satisfactory antiinterference and recyclability for the corresponding analytes. All of these results implied that 1 and 3 should be potential fluorescent sensors for the detection of TC/OTC and 4-(phenylazo)aniline, and the possible sensing mechanism had also been discussed in depth.

Abstract
Adsorption-based separation is an important technology for C2 H2 purification due to the environmentally friendly and energy-efficient advantage. In addition to the high selectivity of C2 H2 /CO2 , the high uptake of C2 H2 also plays an important role in the separation progress. However, the trade-off between adsorption capacity and separation performance is still in a dilemma. Herein, we report a series of cage-like porous materials named FJI-H8-R (R=Me, Et, n Pr and i Pr) which all have high C2 H2 uptakes at 1 bar and 298 K. Dynamic breakthrough studies show that they all exhibit excellent C2 H2 /CO2 separation performance. Particularly, FJI-H8-Me possesses a long breakthrough time up to 90 min g-1 . Additionally, Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulation reveals that the suitable pore space and geometry contribute much to the excellent separation performance.

Abstract
Despite much intense investigation on the C2 H2 /CO2 separation, the trade-off between the adsorption capacity and separation selectivity is still tricky. To overcome the dilemma, we have rationally synthesized an ultra-stable fluorinated hybrid porous material SIFSIX-Cu-TPA with the ith-d topology. Completely differing from the famous pillar-layer fluorinated materials, SIFSIX-Cu-TPA possesses a unique pillar-cage structure, in which the SiF6 2- anions cross-link two adjacent metal nodes as pillars to stabilize the three-dimensional framework constructed by icosahedral and tetrahedral cages. As anticipated, SIFSIX-Cu-TPA has high BET surface area (1330 m2 g-1 ) as well as high C2 H2 uptake (185 cm3 g-1 at 298 K and 1 bar). At the same time, due to the obvious difference in the adsorption performance of CO2 and C2 H2 especially in the low pressure area, SIFSIX-Cu-TPA also exhibits an excellent C2 H2 /CO2 separation performance (breakthrough time up to 68 min g-1 at 298 K and 1 bar).

Abstract
One of the barriers for efficient gas separation is the trade-off between the selectivity and adsorption capacity. To address this issue, we synthesized an anionic trinuclear CoII based 3D MOF (NbU-8), which is characterized by an ultramicroporous building unit (UBU) and Lewis basic binding sites on the pore surfaces. Remarkably, the combination of the two strategies can synergistically enhance the C2H2 adsorption capacity (182.9 cm3/g at 298 K) and simultaneously achieve a high separation performance toward C2H2/C2H4 and C2H2/CO2 mixtures. Besides theoretical calculations, the separation efficiencies of C2H2/C2H4 and C2H2/CO2 are also demonstrated using breakthrough experiments. Density functional theory calculations have further confirmed the -OH groups and ultramicroporous building units play an important synergistic effect in efficiently capturing acetylene molecules.

Abstract
Removal of CH4 and CO2 from C2H2 streams remains challenging in the chemical industry. Herein, a robust three-dimensional metal-organic framework, Cu-CPAH, was designed and synthesized through a hydrothermal method. Cu-CPAH exhibits highly selective C2H2 adsorption capacity with respect to both CH4 and CO2, which is ascribed to the enrichment of active sites in the framework. Dynamic breakthrough results reveal that Cu-CPAH serves as a solid adsorbent for high-efficiency purification of C2H2 from an equal proportion of C2H2/CO2 or C2H2/CO2/CH4 at room temperature. Discrete Fourier transform simulations confirm that various active sites preferentially interact with C2H2 other than CO2 and CH4, signifying for the first time that the imino functional groups in the cage contribute greatly to the preferential affinity to C2H2 over CO2 and CH4.

Abstract
Multifunctional nanomaterials for bioprobe and drug carrier have drawn great attention for their applications in the early monitoring the progression and treatment of cancers. In this work, we have developed new multifunctional water-soluble NaLnF4@MOF-Ln nanocomposites with dual-mode luminescence, which is based on stokes luminescent mesoporous lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (MOFs-Y:Eu3+) and anti-stokes luminescent NaYF4:Tm3+/Yb3+ nanoparticles. The fluorescence mechanism and dynamics are investigated and the applications of these nanocomposites as bioprobes and drug carriers in the cancer imaging and treatment are explored. Our results demonstrate that these nanocomposites with the excellent two-color emission show great potential in drug delivery, cancer cell imaging, and treatment, which are attributed to the unique spatial structure and good biocompatibility characteristics of NaLnF4@MOF-Ln nanocomposites.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as sensing materials have experienced explosive growth in recent years due to their intrinsic merits, such as structural diversity, high porosity, large surface area, extraordinary adsorption affinities, etc. Biomolecules such as DNA, protein, and vitamins play vital roles in metabolism. Moreover, the sensitive detection of biomolecules is of importance in the disease prevention and treatment. This review intends to provide an update on the recent progress in the detection of various biomolecules via MOF-based luminescent sensors. MOFs are successful in the detection of DNA, RNA, protein, and other biomolecules. MOF-based luminescent sensors function by utilizing different mechanisms, including luminescent responses of enhancement and quenching, which are defined as "turn-on" and "turn-off" responses, respectively. Then, a short comparison of the "turn-on" and "turn-off" types of sensors is also made.

Abstract
Three isostructural heterometallic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) {[Ln2Ni(OAc)5(HL)(L)]·solvent molecules}n (H2L = 2-hydroxyimino-N-[1-(2-pyrazinyl)ethylidene]-propanohydrazone, Ln = Dy for 1, Tb for 2 and Gd for 3) were solvothermally synthesized by varying rare-earth metal ions with different electron configurations. Their crystal structures, gas adsorption and magnetic behaviors were fully investigated. The three isomorphous MOFs exhibit three-dimensional microporous frameworks with two different orientated dodecane metallic {NiIILnIII(HL)}6 metallomacrocycles alternately connected by {LnIII(L)} connectors, in which an empty one-dimensional channel decorated by the basic hydrazone interior is generated. Due to their LnIII-independent microporous nature, the activated sample of 1 as a representative example has a significant CO2 uptake up to 42.2 cm3 g-1 and an unusually high CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 adsorption selectivity of up to 98.8 and 16.8 at 298 K and 100 kPa. Magnetically, apparent antiferromagnetic interactions for both 1 and 2 as well as ferromagnetic coupling for 3 are respectively observed at low temperature resulting from the competition of magnetic anisotropy and intermetallic ferromagnetic superexchange. Additionally, 1 with highly anisotropic DyIII spin shows slow magnetization relaxation under zero dc field, whereas 3 possessing isotropic GdIII ions displays a significant cryogenic magnetocaloric effect with a maximum entropy change of 26.6 J kg-1 K-1 at 3.0 K and 70 kOe. These interesting results can provide valuable information on gas separation-based multifunctional 3d-4f MOF materials.

Abstract
The mild recognition sites of oxygen atoms and phenyl rings from 5-(4-pyridyl)-methoxyl isophthalic acid (5,4-PMIA2-) moieties and tetrakis(4-pyridyloxymethylene) methane (TPOM) linkers inside the channels of a novel three-dimensional microporous metal-organic framework (MOF) [Co2(5,4-PMIA)2(TPOM)0.5]· xsolvent (1) are presumed to provide pore environments with moderate contacts toward guests, as indicated by grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations, which appear to be beneficial for adsorption and separation applications. As expected, 1 represents one of the rare examples that show both high storage capacity of C2H n and good adsorption selectivity of C2H n/CH4 and CO2/CH4 under ambient conditions, and yet, it has significantly lower energy consumption for regeneration. In addition, a validated submicro-1-based microsolid-phase extraction (μ-SPE) method for the determination of trace monohydroxylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in complex human urine was developed with satisfactory sensitivity and good precision by online coupling to liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, which represents the first example of a mixed-ligand MOF applied as an efficient sorbent for μ-SPE.
