Abstract
Porous coordination polymers (PCPs) are an excellent class of porous crystalline materials with tunable properties and intriguing potential applications spanning multiple disciplines. In this work, we report the synthesis and characterization of a PCP (HI-103) based on 4,4'-dithiodibenzoic acid ligand and zinc nitrate with two DMF molecules residing in the porous network. The stability of the porous network was analyzed by heating the compound at 60.0 °C for two days, and the structural analysis revealed a new PCP (HI-104) was formed with one of the DMF molecules, indicating a single-crystal to single-crystal (SCSC) transformation. The solvent molecules were completely removed by extensive drying (HI-103-dry), and the integrity of the porous network was verified by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and thermogravimetric analysis. The reversibility of SCSC transformation was confirmed by treating HI-103-dry with DMF molecules, resulting in HI-103 after five days. The adsorption studies of HI-103-dry with other solvents revealed that SCSC transformation was not observed for DMA and DEA, but some structural changes were observed in the presence of DMSO. The adsorption studies performed in the presence of an equimolar mixture of DMF, DMA, and DMA indicated that HI-103-dry could selectively adsorb DMF molecules from the analogous mixture.

Abstract
Two isostructural ligands with either nitrile (Lnit ) or isonitrile (Liso ) moieties directly connected to a [2.2]paracyclophane backbone with pseudo-meta substitution pattern have been synthesized. The ligand itself (Lnit ) or its precursors (Liso ) were resolved by HPLC on a chiral stationary phase and the absolute configuration of the isolated enantiomers was assigned by XRD analysis and/or by comparison of quantum-chemical simulated and experimental electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. Surprisingly, the resulting metallosupramolecular aggregates formed in solution upon coordination of [(dppp)Pd(OTf)2 ] differ in their composition: whereas Lnit forms dinuclear complexes, Liso exclusively forms trinuclear ones. Furthermore, they also differ in their chiral self-sorting behavior as (rac)-Liso undergoes exclusive social self-sorting leading to a heterochiral assembly, whereas (rac)-Liso shows a twofold preference for the formation of homochiral complexes in a narcissistic self-sorting manner as proven by ESI mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy. Interestingly, upon crystallization, these discrete aggregates undergo structural transformation to coordination polymers, as evidenced by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
Two new Ag(I) coordination polymers (CPs), namely, Ag(L)(Htp) (1) and [Ag(L)]·(Htp)·2H2O (2) were synthesized from the long flexible ligand of 1,6-bis(2-methylbenzimidazolyl)hexane (L), terephthalic acid (H2tp) and different silver(I) salts using hydrothermal and sonochemical methods, These CPs were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, scanning electron microscopy, single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. 1 features a uninodal 3-connected 2D hcb layered structure, while 2 exhibits an infinite 1D linear chain and ultimately extended into 3D supramolecular framework via O-H⋯O and Ag⋯O interactions. In addition, the effect of various sonication concentrations of the initial reagents, ultrasonic time and power of ultrasound irradiation on the size and morphology of nanostructured 1 and 2 were evaluated. Nano-sized 1 and 2 exhibit relatively high performance as UV light driven photocatalysts for the degradation of methylene blue.

Abstract
During the last two decades, supramolecular polymers have received great attention and the number of their synthesized compounds is still growing. Although people have long been interested in their crystalline network form it was only until 2005 that the first examples of nano- or microscale coordination polymers particles be demonstrated. This review tries to give an overview of all nano supramolecular compounds which were reported from coinage metal ions, their attributed synthetic procedures and to investigate the relation between the dimensions of coinage metal ions (Cu, Ag and Au) coordination and supramolecular polymers with their nano-structural morphologies and dimensions. Eleven compounds (from twenty compounds) with nano-structure morphology were prepared by sonochemical process and Ag(I) coordination and supramolecular polymer nano-structures can be easily prepared by sonochemical procedures.

Abstract
A photochromic bisthienylethene derivative (BIT) containing two imidazole units has been synthesized and fully characterized. When triggered by chemical ions (Ag(+)), protons, and light, BIT can behave as an absorbance switch, leading to a multiaddressable system. BIT exhibits sequence-dependent responses via efficient interaction of the specific imidazole unit with protons and Ag(+). Furthermore, an INHIBIT logic gate and a keypad lock with three inputs are constructed with the unimolecular platform by employing an absorption mode at different wavelengths as outputs on the basis of an appropriate combination of chemical and photonic stimuli.

Abstract
The synthesis, characterization, electrochemistry, photophysics and photochromic behavior of a new class of cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes [Pt(C(∧)N)(O(∧)O)] (1a-5a and 1b-5b), where C(∧)N is a cyclometalating 2-(2'-thienyl)pyridyl (thpy) or 2-(2'-thienothienyl)pyridyl (tthpy) ligand containing the photochromic dithienylethene (DTE) unit and O(∧)O is a β-diketonato ligand of acetylacetonato (acac) or hexafluoroacetylacetonato (hfac), have been reported. The X-ray crystal structures of five of the complexes have also been determined. The electrochemical studies reveal that the first quasi-reversible reduction couple, and hence the nature of lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of the complexes, is sensitive to the nature of the ancillary O(∧)O ligands. Upon photoexcitation, complexes 1a-3a and 1b-3b exhibit drastic color changes, ascribed to the reversible photochromic behavior, which is found to be sensitive to the substituents on the pyridyl ring and the extent of π-conjugation of the C(∧)N ligand as well as the nature of the ancillary ligand. The thermal bleaching kinetics of complex 1a has been studied in toluene at various temperatures, and the activation barrier for the thermal cycloreversion of the complex has been determined. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been performed to provide an insight into the electrochemical, photophysical and photochromic properties.

Abstract
Quantification of the relative composition of the isomers in a photochromic system at any irradiation time interval is a critical issue in determining absolute quantum yields. For this purpose, we have developed a simple and convenient protocol involving combination of UV-visible and infra-red absorption spectroscopy. Photochromic cyclization reaction of cis-l,2-dicyano-l,2-bis(2,4,5-trimethyl-3-thieny1)ethene (CMTE) is analyzed to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed methodology. This approach is based on the fact that the two isomers show distinctive infra-red bands. Detailed investigations of the UV-visible and infra-red spectra of the mixture obtained at different irradiation times in CCl(4) supported by quantum chemical computations lead to the unambiguous estimation of molar absorption coefficients of the closed isomer (epsilon(CF) = 4650 L mol(-1) cm(-1) at 512 nm). It facilitates the first determination of absolute quantum yields of this reversible photochromic reaction in CCl(4) by fitting the UV-visible spectral data (Phi(OF-->CF) = 0.41 +/- 0.05 and Phi(CF-->OF) = 0.12 +/- 0.02 at 405 nm and 546 nm, respectively).

Abstract
A density functional theory study for the bis- and monothiophene complexes of Fe, Co, and Ni (MT2 and MT, T = thiophene, M = Fe, Co, Ni) was performed to understand their coordination geometries, bonding properties, vibration spectra and singlet excited state spectra. The typical metal coordination exists in the complexes. The Fe-thiophene coordination has the highest stability, with Ni-thiophene being the second highest, and Co-thiophene the lowest. Bisthiophene complexes of Co and Ni prefer to homolytically dissociate to their monothiophene ones and free thiophene. Frequency calculation shows that the ligand-M-ligand asymmetric stretching vibration in bisthiophene complexes shows a strong absorption, at 435.2, 495.7, and 383 cm(-1) for Fe(eta4-T)2, Co(eta2-T)2 and Ni(eta2-T)2, respectively. The M-S stretching vibration in monothiophene complexes shows a strong absorption in the far-infrared region, at 209, 156, and 150 cm(-1) for Fe(eta4-T), Co(eta4-T) and Ni(eta5-T), respectively. The excited state spectra indicate that the characteristic absorption wavelengths of the complexes have a red shift of more than 12.40 eV compared to free thiophene, at 3.54, 1.64, 3.83, 2.75, 1.43, and 2.58 eV for Fe(eta4-T)2, Co(eta2-T)2, Ni(eta2-T)2, Fe(eta4-T), Co(eta4-T), and Ni(eta5-T), respectively.

Abstract
Three new metal complexes with 1,2-bis(2'-methyl-5'-(carboxylic acid)-3'-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene (BM-5-CATP) were synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. BM-5-CATP serves as a bis-monodentate ligand that bridges metal centers to generate three 1D polymers. The two thienyl rings in the three complexes adopt antiparallel fashions, and the distances of 3.39, 3.53, and 3.57 A between the two reactive carbons are short enough to allow photocyclizations to occur in the crystalline phase. [Co(BM-5-CATP)(py)2(MeOH)2] (1) displayed effective photoisomerization in the crystalline phase. Interestingly, solvated 1 underwent a solid-state conversion upon heating to generate, through the release of the coordinated MeOH and rearrangement of the coordination geometry, the desolvated form (1a), while maintaining reversible photochromism. The removal of the solvent led to obvious changes in physical properties such as color and magnetic properties. The ESR spectra of 1 and 1a changed reversibly upon photoexcitation, indicating changes in coordination geometry accompanied by photoreaction. The magnetic susceptibilities of 1 and 1a showed no obvious changes, suggesting that the cobalt-cobalt interaction through the long bridging BM-5-CATP is less effective. Both [Cu(BM-5-CATP)(py)3](EtOH)(py)1.8 (2) and [Zn(BM-5-CATP)(phen)(H2O)] (3) exhibited reversible photoreactions in the crystalline phase. However, 3 did not show remarkable spectral changes because of steric hindrance from the coordinated bulky phenanthroline and the intramolecular H bonds.

Abstract
A series of zinc(II) diimine bis(thiolate) complexes with photochromic diarylethene-containing phenanthroline ligands was synthesized, and their photophysical and photochromic properties were studied. The X-ray crystal structures of two of these complexes have been characterized. All complexes exhibit strong 3LLCT phosphorescence at 510-620 nm in the solid state at 77 and 298 K and in EtOH-MeOH glass at 77 K. Detailed studies revealed that the absorption, emission, and electrochemical properties of the complexes could be readily switched via the photochromic ring-closing and ring-opening reactions.

Abstract
Synthesis of the diarylethene-containing ligand L1 based on Suzuki cross-coupling reaction between thienyl boronic acid and the dibromophenanthroline ligand is reported. On coordination to the rhenium(I) tricarbonyl complex system, the photochromism of L1 could be photosensitized and consequently extended from intraligand excitation at lambda< or =340 nm in the free ligand to metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) excitation at lambda< or =480 nm in the complex. The photochromic reactions were studied by (1)H NMR, UV/Vis, and steady-state emission spectroscopy. Photosensitization was further probed by ultrafast transient absorption and time-resolved emission spectroscopy. The results provided direct evidence that the formation of the closed form by the MLCT-sensitized photochromic process was derived from the (3)MLCT excited state. This supports the photosensitization mechanism, which involves an intramolecular energy-transfer process from the (3)MLCT to the (3)IL(L1) state that initiated the ring-closure reaction. The photophysical and electrochemical properties of the complex were also investigated.

Abstract
A versatile bis(2,5-dimethyl-3-thienyl)-1,10-phenanthroline photochromic ligand has been successfully synthesized via a Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. The excitation wavelength for photochromic reaction of the dithienylphenanthroline could be extended from lambda </= 340 nm in the UV region to ca. 480 nm in the visible region, corresponding to the MLCT excitation, through the incorporation into the rhenium(I) tricarbonyl system. Reversible switching of the emissive state by the photochromic reaction has also been demonstrated.

Abstract
Metal complexes composed of ZnCl(2) and bidentate 1,2-bis(2-methyl-5-(4-pyridyl)-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene (1a) and monodentate 1-(2-methyl-5-phenyl-3-thienyl)-2-(2-methyl-5-(4-pyridyl)-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene (2a) photochromic ligands were prepared. X-ray crystallographic analyses showed the formation of a coordination polymer and a discrete 2:1 complex for 1a.ZnCl(2) and 2a(2).ZnCl(2), respectively. While the 2a(2).ZnCl(2) crystal underwent photochromic reaction in the crystalline state by alternate irradiation with UV and visible light, the 1a.ZnCl(2) crystal did not show any photoreactivity. The difference in the photochromic behavior was explained by the difference in the conformation of the diarylethenes in the crystals.

Abstract
Metal complexes composed of bidentate 1,2-bis(2-methyl-5-(4-pyridyl)-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene (1a) and monodentate 1-(2-methyl-5-phenyl-3-thienyl)-2-(2-methyl-5-(4-pyridyl)-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene (2a) photochromic ligands and M(hfac)(2) (M = Zn(II), Mn(II), and Cu(II)) were prepared, and their photoinduced coordination structural changes were studied. X-ray crystallographic analyses showed the formation of coordination polymers and discrete 1:2 complexes for bidentate and monodentate ligands, respectively. The complexes underwent reversible photochromic reactions by alternate irradiation with UV and visible lights in solution as well as in the single-crystalline phase. Upon photoirradiation with UV and visible light, the ESR spectra of the copper complexes of 1a reversibly changed. While the open-ring isomer gave an axial-type spectrum, the photogenerated closed-ring isomer showed a rhombic-type spectrum. This indicates that the photoisomerization induced the change in the coordination structure.
