Abstract
We assess the associations between personality traits and co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and high BMI from adolescence to early adulthood. We employed a nationally representative cohort in China from 2010 to 2020 year. We included adolescents aged 10-19 years without depressive symptoms and unhealthy weight status (obesity, overweight, or thinness) at baseline and excluded those without any measurement of depressive symptoms or BMI at follow-ups. We assessed baseline personality traits in 7 dimensions of conscientiousness, openness, neuroticism, agreeableness, extraversion, self-esteem, and responsibility. We also assessed the combined effects of these 7 dimensions of personality traits by generating individual-level personality trait risk scores based on the weighted sum of all these 7 dimensions of personality traits. We measured the co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and high BMI using both a single measurement of depressive symptoms and BMI at the last follow-up and repeated measurements of them over 10 years. We used the multinomial logistic regression models to examine the exposure-outcome associations. At baseline, we included 1778 individuals (mean age: 14.4 year; female: 853 (48.0%)). At follow-ups, we observed increased risk of co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and high BMI per 1-SD increase in neuroticism score (1.95-2.38 odds ratio) or 1-SD decrease in self-esteem and conscientiousness (0.63-0.80 odds ratio; all P values < 0.05); we observed no evidence of associations between openness, agreeableness, extraversion, or responsibility and the risk of co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and high BMI (all P values > 0.05). For the combined effects of the 7 dimensions of personality traits, we found an elevated risk of co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and high BMI per 1-SD increase in the personality trait risk scores (OR (95% CI), single measurement at the last follow-up: 2.01, 1.66 to 2.43; trajectory classification using the repeated measurements 2.30, 1.55 to 3.42; average level using the repeated measurements: 2.27, 1.93 to 2.67). In this national cohort in China, personality traits were found to be associated with the co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and high BMI from adolescence to early adulthood. These findings highlight the importance of stratifying individuals based on their personality traits and providing targeted interventions for those at risk of comorbid depression and obesity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the association between self-control and the co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and overweight or obesity from adolescence to early adulthood in the Chinese population, and to provide a scientific basis for personalized interventions targeting individuals with different risks in the future. METHODS From a prospective cohort study that lasted for 10 years: The China family panel studies (CFPS), a total of 608 children and adolescents meeting the following inclusion and exclusion criteria were included as study subjects: (1) Aged 10 to 19 years, at normal weight according to Chinese standards, and without depressive symptom in 2010; (2) Had self-control scores, and with at least two measurements of depressive symptoms and body mass index (BMI) between 2010 and 2020; (3) The only one or the youngest child and adolescent from each family. The co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and overweight or obesity was defined in three ways: Both of the average level of standardized scores of depressive symptoms and BMI Z-scores across multiple measurements over time were at a high level, or both of the trajectories of depressive symptoms and BMI over time based on the latent classification trajectory model (LCTM) belonging to the "risk-type", or individuals had depressive symptoms and overweight/obesity at the last follow-up survey. The multinomial Logistic regression model was used to examine the association between standardized scores of self-control and the co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and overweight or obesity. RESULTS The score of self-control was associated with the co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and overweight or obesity when using healthy individuals as the reference group after adjusting for age (years), gender (male/female), area (urban/rural), weekly physical activity duration (high/low), parental education level (college or above/high school or below), parental weight status (overweight or obese or not), and parental depressive symptoms (with depressive symptoms or not), regardless of the definition of the risk population. Specifically, the risk of co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and overweight or obesity was reduced by 33% (95%CI: 14% to 48%, based on the average level across multiple measurements over time) to 78% (95%CI: 6% to 95%, based on the joint trajectories of depressive symptoms and BMI over time) per 1-standard deviation (1-SD) increase in self-control score. In addition, the risk of depressive-symptom-dominant and overweight-or-obesity-dominant was reduced by 25% (95%CI: 4% to 42%, only based on the average level across multiple measurements over time) and 21% (95%CI: 1% to 37%, only based on the joint trajectories of depressive symptoms and BMI over time) per 1-SD increase in self-control score, respectively. The results from sensitivity analysis that defined individuals' weight status according to World Health Organization (WHO) standards were consistent with our main findings. CONCLUSION Individuals with higher self-control scores from adolescence to early adulthood have a lower risk of co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and overweight or obesity, suggesting that personalized interventions for co-occurrence of depressive symptoms and overweight or obesity can be carried out based on self-control scores in the future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Stress during pregnancy can increase physical and mental health risks in parents and offspring. Emotion regulation (ER) may protect against prenatal stress; however, ER is understudied in expectant parents, particularly expectant fathers. This study aimed to evaluate associations between ER strategies (reappraisal, suppression, ratio of suppression-to-reappraisal) and perceived stress among expectant parents, and also test whether expectant mothers and fathers differed in ER strategy use and perceived stress levels. METHODS N = 83 expectant parents (62.7% mothers) in the third trimester completed measures assessing perceived stress,reappraisal, and suppression. ANCOVA, hierarchical regression, and multilevel models were used to evaluate associations between ER strategies and perceived stress, and test for sex differences. RESULTS Controlling for age and education, lower reappraisal and higher suppression were associated with higher perceived stress; in addition, higher suppression-to-reappraisal ratios were associated with greater perceived stress. Mothers and fathers did not differ in perceived stress, reappraisal, or suppression; however, suppression-to-reappraisal ratios significantly differed. CONCLUSION Increasing ER skills such as reappraisal while reducing suppression may be beneficial for decreasing stress in expectant parents. Expectant fathers report similar levels of perceived stress to mothers and would benefit from prenatal mental health screening and intervention.

Abstract
Growing evidence suggests there is a bidirectional relationship between depression and obesity, which are associated with structural and functional brain abnormalities. However, the underlying neurobiological mechanisms subserving the foregoing associations have yet to be characterized. It is necessary to summarize the neuroplastic brain changes in relation to depression and obesity. We systematically searched articles from 1990 to November 2022 on databases including MEDLINE/PubMed, Web of Science, PsycINFO. Only neuroimaging studies within the scope of potential differences in brain function and structure in individuals with depression and obesity/ BMI changes were included. Twenty-four eligible studies were included in the review herein, consisting of 17 studies reporting changes in brain structure, 4 studies reporting abnormal brain function, and 3 studies reporting both changes in brain structure and function. Results indicated an interaction between depression and obesity on brain functions, and their influence on brain structure is both extensive and specific. Overall, reduced whole brain, intracranial, and gray matter volume (e.g. frontal, temporal gyri, thalamic, and hippocampal) and impaired white matter integrity was observed in persons with depression and obesity comorbidity. Additional evidence on resting state fMRI reveals select brain regions associated with cognitive control, emotion regulation, and reward functions. Due to the diversity of tasks in task fMRI, the distinct neural activation patterns are revealed separately. The bidirectional relationship between depression and obesity reflects different characteristics in brain structure and function. Longitudinal designs should be reinforced in follow-up studies.

Abstract
Aberrant microstructure of the uncinate fasciculus (UNC), a white matter (WM) tract implicated in emotion regulation, has been hypothesized as a neurobiological mechanism of depression. However, studies testing this hypothesis have yielded inconsistent results. The present meta-analysis consolidates evidence from 44 studies comparing fractional anisotropy (FA) and radial diffusivity (RD), two metrics characterizing WM microstructure, of the UNC in individuals with depression (n = 5016) to healthy individuals (n = 18 425). We conduct meta-regressions to identify demographic and clinical characteristics that contribute to cross-study heterogeneity in UNC findings. UNC FA was reduced in individuals with depression compared to healthy individuals. UNC RD was comparable between individuals with depression and healthy individuals. Comorbid anxiety explained inter-study heterogeneity in UNC findings. Depression is associated with perturbations in UNC microstructure, specifically with respect to UNC FA and not UNC RD. The association between depression and UNC microstructure appears to be moderated by anxiety. Future work should unravel the cellular mechanisms contributing to aberrant UNC microstructure in depression; clarify the relationship between UNC microstructure, depression, and anxiety; and link UNC microstructure to psychological processes, such as emotion regulation.

Abstract
Introduction Obesity has become a global public health issue, which impacts general health and the brain. Associations between obesity and white matter microstructure measured using diffusion tensor imaging have been under reviewed, despite a relatively large number of individual studies. Our objective was to determine the association between obesity and white matter microstructure in a large general population sample. Methods We analyzed location of brain white matter changes in obesity using the Anisotropic Effect Size Seed-based d Mapping (AES-SDM) method in a voxel-based meta-analysis, with validation in a region of interest (ROI) effect size meta-analysis. Our sample included 21 742 individuals from 51 studies. Results The voxel-based spatial meta-analysis demonstrated reduced fractional anisotropy (FA) with obesity in the genu and splenium of the corpus callosum, middle cerebellar peduncles, anterior thalamic radiation, cortico-spinal projections, and cerebellum. The ROI effect size meta-analysis replicated associations between obesity and lower FA in the genu and splenium of the corpus callosum, middle cerebellar peduncles. Effect size of obesity related brain changes was small to medium. Discussion Our findings demonstrate obesity related brain white matter changes are localized rather than diffuse. Better understanding the brain correlates of obesity could help identify risk factors, and targets for prevention or treatment of brain changes.

Abstract
Neurobiological research on anxiety has shown that trait-anxious individuals may be characterized by weaker structural connectivity of the amygdala-prefrontal circuitry, representing a reduced capacity for efficient communication between the two brain regions. However, comparison of available studies has been inconsistent, possibly related to factors such as aging that influences both trait anxiety and structural connectivity of the brain. To help clarify the nature of brain-anxiety relationship, we applied a connectome-based predictive modeling framework on 148 diffusion-weighted imaging data from the Leipzig Study for Mind-Body Emotion Interactions dataset and identified multivariate patterns of whole-brain structural connectivity that predicted trait anxiety. Results showed that networks predictive of trait anxiety differed across age groups. Specifically, an isolated negative network, which shared overlapping features with the amygdala-prefrontal circuitry, was found in younger adults (20-30 years of age), whereas a widespread positive network highlighted by frontotemporal and frontolimbic connectivity was identified when both younger and older adults (20-80 years of age) were examined. No predictive network was observed when only older adults (30-80 years of age) were considered. Our findings highlight an important age-dependent effect on the structural connectome-based prediction of trait anxiety, supporting ongoing efforts to develop potential neural biomarkers of anxiety.
