Abstract
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has diverse pathological subtypes, most of which have a poor prognosis. Patients with advanced RCC require systemic therapies for disease control. Although targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors have shown therapeutic efficacy, patients eventually succumb to disease progression. Therefore, additional therapies targeting different pathways are needed to provide more therapeutic options for sequential treatment. Our study explored the biological mechanisms and therapeutic outcomes for NPS-1034, a dual MET/AXL inhibitor, in RCC, both in vivo and in vitro. Our results showed that NPS-1034 can significantly inhibit tumor proliferation and induce cancer cell apoptosis. Besides MET and AXL, known targets of NPS-1034, we identified TNFRSF1A as another target gene inhibited by NPS-1034 via antibody arrays. This was further supported by next-generation sequencing, showing that the TNF signaling pathway is one of the most significant NPS-1034-regulated pathways. Furthermore, one of the identified target genes, GADD45A, responsible for NPS-1034 anticancer properties, was significantly associated with patient survival in RCC. GADD45A expression was significantly upregulated via NPS-1034 and downregulated via TNFRSF1A overexpression. Finally, its therapeutic efficacy was demonstrated in vivo, showing that NPS-1034 significantly alleviated the tumor burden and inhibited cell proliferation in a lung metastatic animal model. In conclusion, we explored the therapeutic mechanism of NPS-1034 and found that it targets not only MET and AXL but also TNFRSF1A. In a lung metastatic animal model, we confirmed that NPS-1034 is a potential candidate for systemic therapy in RCC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Metastasis, the leading cause of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) mortality, involves cancer cells resisting anoikis and invading. Until now, the role of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-related enzyme, A disintegrin and metalloprotease with thrombospondin motifs 1 (ADAMTS1), in RCC anoikis regulation remains unclear. METHODS The clinical significance of ADAMTS1 and its associated molecules in patients with RCC was investigated using data from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and TCGA datasets. Human phosphoreceptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) array, luciferase reporter assays, immunoprecipitation (IP) assays, western blotting, and real-time reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) were used to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of ADAMTS1. Functional assays, including anoikis resistance assays, invasion assays, and a Zebrafish xenotransplantation model, were conducted to assess the roles of ADAMTS1 in conferring resistance to anoikis in RCC. RESULTS This study found elevated ADAMTS1 transcripts in RCC tissues that were correlated with a poor prognosis. ADAMTS1 manipulation significantly affected cell anoikis through the mitochondrial pathway in RCC cells. Human receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) array screening identified that epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) activation was responsible for ADAMTS1-induced anoikis resistance and invasion. Further investigations revealed that enzymatically active ADAMTS1-induced versican V1 (VCAN V1) proteolysis led to EGFR transactivation, which in turn, through positive feedback, regulated ADAMTS1. Additionally, ADAMTS1 can form a complex with p53 to influence EGFR signaling. In vivo, VCAN or EGFR knockdown reversed ADAMTS1-induced prometastatic characteristics of RCC. A clinical analysis revealed a positive correlation between ADAMTS1 and VCAN or the EGFR and patients with RCC with high ADAMTS1 and VCAN expression had the worst prognoses. CONCLUSIONS Our results collectively uncover a novel cyclic axis involving ADAMTS1-VCAN-EGFR, which significantly contributes to RCC invasion and resistance to anoikis, thus presenting a promising therapeutic target for RCC metastasis.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and Clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) are both complicated diseases which incidence rates gradually increasing. Population based studies show that severity of ccRCC might be associated with T2D. However, so far, no researcher yet investigated about the molecular mechanisms of their association. This study explored T2D and ccRCC causing shared key genes (sKGs) from multiple transcriptomics profiles to investigate their common pathogenetic processes and associated drug molecules. We identified 259 shared differentially expressed genes (sDEGs) that can separate both T2D and ccRCC patients from control samples. Local correlation analysis based on the expressions of sDEGs indicated significant association between T2D and ccRCC. Then ten sDEGs (CDC42, SCARB1, GOT2, CXCL8, FN1, IL1B, JUN, TLR2, TLR4, and VIM) were selected as the sKGs through the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis. These sKGs were found significantly associated with different CpG sites of DNA methylation that might be the cause of ccRCC. The sKGs-set enrichment analysis with Gene Ontology (GO) terms and KEGG pathways revealed some crucial shared molecular functions, biological process, cellular components and KEGG pathways that might be associated with development of both T2D and ccRCC. The regulatory network analysis of sKGs identified six post-transcriptional regulators (hsa-mir-93-5p, hsa-mir-203a-3p, hsa-mir-204-5p, hsa-mir-335-5p, hsa-mir-26b-5p, and hsa-mir-1-3p) and five transcriptional regulators (YY1, FOXL1, FOXC1, NR2F1 and GATA2) of sKGs. Finally, sKGs-guided top-ranked three repurposable drug molecules (Digoxin, Imatinib, and Dovitinib) were recommended as the common treatment for both T2D and ccRCC by molecular docking and ADME/T analysis. Therefore, the results of this study may be useful for diagnosis and therapies of ccRCC patients who are also suffering from T2D.

Abstract
We are witnessing a revolution in the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). Indeed, several immune-based combinations (ICI [immune checkpoint inhibitor] + ICI, or ICI + antiangiogenic agents) have been approved as first-line therapy for mRCC after demonstrating superior efficacy over the previous standard. Despite all the improvements made, safety remains a critical issue, adverse events (AEs) being the main reason for drug discontinuations or dose reductions, ultimately resulting in an increased risk of losing efficacy. Thus, a good understanding of the AEs associated with the use of immune-based combinations, their prevention, and management, are key in order to maximize therapeutic effectiveness. Among these AEs, renal ones are relatively frequent, but always difficult to be diagnosed, not to take into account that it is often difficult to determine which drug is to blame for such toxicities. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common finding in patients with RCC, either as a pre-existing condition and/or as a consequence of cancer and its treatment; furthermore, CKD, especially in advanced stages and in patients undergoing dialysis, may influence the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics properties of anticancer agents. Finally, managing cancer therapy in kidney transplanted patients is another challenge. In this review, we discuss the therapy management of immune-based combinations in patients with CKD, on dialysis, or transplanted, as well as their renal toxicities, with a focus on their prevention, detection and practical management, taking into account the crucial role of the consulting nephrologist within the multidisciplinary care of these patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE Endophytic renal cancer treatment is a challenge. Due to difficulties in endophytic tumor visualization during surgical extirpation, image-guided percutaneous cryoablation (PCA) is an attractive alternative. The minimally invasive nature of PCA makes it favorable for comorbid patients as well as patients in which surgery is contraindicated. Oncological outcomes and complications after PCA of endophytic biopsy-proven renal cell carcinoma (RCC) were reviewed in this study. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients were included after a multidisciplinary team conference from January 2015 to November 2021. Inclusion criteria were endophytic biopsy-proven T1 RCC treated with PCA with one year of follow-up. Complications were reported according to the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) classification system and the Clavien-Dindo classification (CDC) system. Major complications were defined as a grade ≥ 3 according to the CDC. RESULTS Fifty-six patients were included with a total of 56 endophytic tumors treated during 61 PCA sessions. The median RENAL nephrometry score was 9 (IQR 2), and the mean tumor size was 25.7 mm (SD ± 8.9 mm). Mean hospitalization time was 0.39 (SD ± 1.1) days. At a mean follow-up of 996 days (SD ± 559), 86% of tumors were recurrence free after one PCA. No patients progressed to metastatic disease. According to the CIRSE classification, 10.7% (n = 6) had grade 3 complications, and 5.4% (n = 3) had CDC major complications. CONCLUSION This study demonstrates that PCA of endophytic biopsy-proven T1 RCC is safe with few major complications and excellent local tumor control rates at almost three-year mean follow-up. Abstract
Combination treatment with immunotherapy agents and/or vascular endothelial growth factor tyrosine kinase inhibitors are a standard of care for patients with advanced clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Novel therapeutic combinations that include the hypoxia-inducible factor 2α inhibitor belzutifan and the cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 inhibitor quavonlimab are being investigated for their potential to further improve patient outcomes. This protocol describes the rationale and design of the randomized, phase III LITESPARK-012 study, which will evaluate the efficacy and safety of pembrolizumab plus lenvatinib with or without belzutifan or quavonlimab as first-line treatment for advanced ccRCC. Results from this study may support triplet combination therapies as a potential new standard of care for advanced ccRCC. Clinical trial registry: NCT04736706 (ClinicalTrials.gov).

Abstract
The incidence of renal cancer has increased over the past several decades, but mortality has declined. This is thought to be related in part to earlier detection of renal masses which portend excellent 5-year survival rates. Management of small renal masses and localized disease include both nonsurgical and surgical options. The choice of intervention is ultimately based on comprehensive evaluation and shared decision-making. This article provides a comprehensive review of the current surgical management options for localized renal cancer.

Abstract
Introduction Emerging evidence have suggested a potential relationship between hysterectomy and risk of kidney cancer with inconsistent results. We aimed to investigate the association of hysterectomy with kidney cancer risk based on a meta-analysis of all available cohort studies. Methods A comprehensive literature search was performed in the PubMed and Embase database, covering all the papers published by September 2022. The pooled relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using a DerSimonian and Laird random effects model. Results Overall, our meta-analysis included 10 cohorts from 9 studies with approximately 240 million participants. The pooled RR with its 95% CI showed a significantly positive association between hysterectomy and risk of kidney cancer (RR 1.30, 95% CI 1.19-1.41). No obvious heterogeneity was observed across the studies (P = 0.206 for heterogeneity; I2 = 25.9%). Conclusion Findings from this meta-analysis of cohort studies indicated that hysterectomy was positively associated with subsequent kidney cancer risk. Further large prospective studies with long-term follow-up are warranted to verify these findings.

Abstract
Background The huge burden of breast cancer (BC) necessitates the profound and accurate knowledge of the most recent cancer epidemiology and quality of care provided. We aimed to evaluate BC epidemiology and quality of care and examine the effects of socioeconomic development and healthcare expenditure on disparities in BC care. Methods The results from the GLOBOCAN 2020 study were utilized to extract data on female BC, including incidence and mortality numbers, crude rates, and age-standardized rates [age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs) and age-standardized mortality rates (ASMRs)]. The mortality-to-incidence ratio (MIR) was calculated for different locations and socioeconomic stratifications to examine disparities in BC care, with higher values reflecting poor quality of care and vice versa. In both descriptive and analytic approaches, the human development index (HDI) and the proportion of current healthcare expenditure (CHE) to gross domestic product (CHE/GDP%) were used to evaluate the values of MIR. Results Globally, 2,261,419 (95% uncertainty interval (UI): 2,244,260-2,278,710) new cases of female BC were diagnosed in 2020, with a crude rate of 58.5/100,000 population, and caused 684,996 (675,493-694,633) deaths, with a crude rate of 17.7. The WHO region with the highest BC ASIR (69.7) was Europe, and the WHO region with the highest ASMR (19.1) was Africa. The very high HDI category had the highest BC ASIR (75.6), and low HDI areas had the highest ASMR (20.1). The overall calculated value of female BC MIR in 2020 was 0.30, with Africa having the highest value (0.48) and the low HDI category (0.53). A strong statistically significant inverse correlation was observed between the MIR and HDI values for countries/territories (Pearson's coefficient = -0.850, p-value < 0.001). A significant moderate inverse correlation was observed between the MIR and CHE/GDP values (Pearson's coefficient = -0.431, p-value < 0.001). Conclusions This study highlighted that MIR of BC was higher in less developed areas and less wealthy countries. MIR as an indicator of the quality of care showed that locations with higher healthcare expenditure had better BC care. More focused interventions in developing regions and in those with limited resources are needed to alleviate the burden of BC and resolve disparities in BC care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Clear cell papillary renal cell tumor (CCPRCT) was first reported in 2006 a patient with end stage renal disease. After that it was discovered in the kidney without end stage renal disease in the 2010s and started to be mentioned in pathology and urology. The incidence of CCPRCT is low and most of it is discovered incidentally, so there is a lack of reports on clinical characteristics and surgical outcome. METHODS This study used clinical data from the Seoul National University Prospectively Enrolled Registry for Renal Cell Carcinoma-Nephrectomy (SUPER-RCC-Nx). Between August 2016 and July 2022, patients who underwent radical or partial nephrectomy with clear cell papillary RCC with pathological finding were included in this study. All patients' pathologic reports were reviewed by 1 pathologist. Clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes were presented through descriptive statistics, and Kaplan-Meier curve used for survival analysis. RESULTS Of the 2057 patients, CCPRCT was reported in 36 patients (1.8%). The median follow up period was 26.8 months. The median age was 67 years, and there were 10 females and 26 males. The median tumor size was 1.2 cm. Twenty-nine patients underwent partial nephrectomy. Seven patients with end-stage renal disease underwent radical nephrectomy. The median operative time for patients who underwent partial nephrectomy was 97.5 min and the estimated blood loss was 100 cc. The median hospital days was 4 and 30-day complications were 2 cases with clavien-dindo classification III or higher. During the follow-up period, there was no recurrence and cancer specific mortality. CONCLUSIONS The size of CCPRCT was small and there was no advanced stage at that time of diagnosis. There was no recurrence or cancer specific mortality during the follow-up period. A multi-center study with a large scale is needed in the future. Trends of kidney cancer burden from 1990 to 2019 in European Union 15 + countries and World Health Organization regions. Sci Rep 2022; 12:22368. Abstract
In recent decades, variability in the incidence and mortality of kidney cancer (KC) has been reported. This study aimed to compare trends in incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALY) of KC between the European Union (EU) 15 + countries and 6 World Health Organization (WHO) regions. The data of KC Age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs), age-standardized mortality rates (ASMRs), and age-standardized DALYs were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease database. Joinpoint regression was employed to examine trends. From 1990 to 2019, the ASIR increased in most countries except for Luxembourg (males), the USA (females) and Austria and Sweden (both sexes). ASIR increased across all 6 WHO regions for both sexes except for females in Americas. The ASMR increased in 10/19 countries for males and 9/19 for females as well across most WHO regions. The mortality-to-incidence ratio (MIR) decreased in all countries and WHO regions. Trends in DALYs were variable across countries and WHO regions. While the incidence and mortality from KC rose in most EU15 + countries and WHO regions from 1990 to 2019, the universal drop in MIR suggests an overall improvement in KC outcomes. This is likely multifactorial, including earlier detection of KC and improved treatments.

Abstract
CONTEXT Thais savignyi Deshayes (Muricidae) is widely distributed in the Red Sea. Its abundance and the history of Muricidae in traditional medicine make it a tempting target for investigation. OBJECTIVE To investigate the chemical profile and biological activities of T. savignyi tissue extracts. MATERIALS AND METHODS Methanol, ethanol, acetone, and ethyl acetate extracts from T. savignyi tissue were compared in their antioxidant by total antioxidant capacity, DPPH free radical scavenging, and total phenolic content. In addition, the antimicrobial, and antibiofilm properties (at 250 µg/mL) of the extracts were tested against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. The antioxidant extract with greatest activity was assessed for cytotoxicity (range 0.4-100 µg/mL) against 3 human cancer cell lines (UO-31, A549 and A431), and its chemical composition was investigated using GC-MS. Moreover, docking simulation was performed to predict its constituents' binding modes/scores to the active sites of thymidylate kinase. RESULTS The ethyl acetate extract (Ts-EtOAc) showed the highest total antioxidant capacity (551.33 mg AAE/g dry weight), total phenolics (254.46 mg GAE/g dry weight), and DPPH scavenging (IC50= 24.0 µg/mL). Ts-EtOAc exhibited strong antibacterial (MIC: 3.9 µg/mL against K. pneumoniae), antibiofilm (MIC: 7.81 µg/mL against S. aureus), and antifungal (MIC: 3.9 µg/mL against C. albicans) activities and considerable cytotoxicity against cancer cells (UO-31: IC50= 19.96 ± 0.93, A549: IC50= 25.04 ± 1.15 μg/mL). GC-MS identified multiple bioactive metabolites in Ts-EtOAc extract belonging to miscellaneous chemical classes. Molecular docking studies revealed that the constituents of Ts-EtOAc have antibacterial potential. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS T. savignyi extract has considerable antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities. Further studies are needed to isolate the active constituents of this snail for comprehensive drug discovery tests.

Abstract
CONTEXT International variations in the rates of kidney cancer (KC) are considerable. An understanding of the risk factors for KC development is necessary to generate opportunities to reduce its incidence through prevention and surveillance. OBJECTIVE To retrieve and summarize global incidence and mortality rates of KC and risk factors associated with its development, and to describe known familial syndromes and genetic alterations that represent biologic risk factors. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION A systematic review was conducted via Medline (PubMed) and Scopus to include meta-analyses, reviews, and original studies regarding renal cell carcinoma, epidemiology, and risk factors. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS Our narrative review provides a detailed analysis of KC incidence and mortality, with significant variations across time, geography, and sex. In particular, while KC incidence has continued to increase, mortality models have leveled off. Among the many risk factors, hypertension, obesity, and smoking are the most well established. The emergence of new genetic data coupled with observational data allows for integrated management and surveillance strategies for KC care. CONCLUSIONS KC incidence and mortality rates vary significantly by geography, sex, and age. Associations of the development of KC with modifiable and fixed risk factors such as obesity, hypertension, smoking, and chronic kidney disease (CKD)/end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) are well described. Recent advances in the genetic characterization of these cancers have led to a better understanding of the germline and somatic mutations that predispose patients to KC development, with potential for identification of therapeutic targets that may improve outcomes for these at-risk patients. PATIENT SUMMARY We reviewed evidence on the occurrence of kidney cancer (KC) around the world. Currently, the main avoidable causes are smoking, obesity, and high blood pressure. Although other risk factors also contribute, prevention and treatment of these three factors provide the best opportunities to reduce the risk of developing KC at present.

Abstract
Simple Summary Despite recent advances in treating metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC), many patients develop resistance to therapy, resulting in treatment failure. Sunitinib is one drug used to treat metastasized RCC and resistance eventually develops in most patients. In the present in vitro investigation, sulforaphane, a natural compound known to possess antitumor properties without inducing severe side effects, enhanced the efficacy of sunitinib by preventing tumor growth and proliferation in sunitinib-resistant RCC. Sulforaphane, therefore, could prove beneficial as an integrative component in treating metastasized RCC with sunitinib. Further investigation is required to verify these in vitro findings and to evaluate sulforaphane’s clinical value. Abstract Chronic treatment of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with the tyrosine kinase inhibitor sunitinib (ST) inevitably induces resistance and tumor re-activation. This study investigated whether adding the natural compound sulforaphane (SFN) with its anti-cancer properties could improve ST efficacy in vitro. The RCC cell lines A498, Caki1, KTCTL26, and 786O were exposed to ST, SFN, or both (dual therapy, DT) before (short-term exposure) and during ST-resistance buildup (long-term 8-week exposure). Tumor growth, proliferation, and clone formation were evaluated, as was cell cycle progression and cell cycle regulating proteins. In nonresistant cells (short-term), DT induced a higher reduction in cell viability in three cell lines as compared to monotherapy with either ST or SFN. Long-term SFN or DT significantly reduced tumor growth and proliferation, whereas ST alone had no effect or even elevated proliferation in three cell lines. SFN or DT (but not ST alone) also blocked clonogenic growth. Both long-term SFN and DT enhanced the number of cells in the S- and/or G2/M-phase. Protein analysis in 786O cells revealed a down-regulation of cyclin dependent kinase (CDK) 1 and 2. CDK2 or Cyclin A knockdown caused reduced 786O growth activity. SFN therefore inhibits or delays resistance to chronic ST treatment.

Abstract
Case summary A young adult female spayed domestic shorthair cat presented for acute hindlimb weakness and anorexia with a 1-month history of lethargy, hyporexia and weight loss. A mass was palpable in the caudolateral abdomen and the left hindlimb was diffusely edematous. Abdominal ultrasound showed hydronephrosis of the left kidney with suspected hydroureter and heterogeneous tissue in the dorsal abdomen. CT evaluation confirmed a mass extending from the left kidney through the lumbar musculature with hydronephrosis, aortic attenuation, caudal vena caval thrombosis and lysis of vertebrae 4 and 5. Fine-needle aspiration of the mass suggested squamous cell carcinoma. Owing to clinical deterioration, euthanasia was elected. At necropsy, the left kidney was firmly adhered to the lumbar region with tissue that obliterated the musculature and surrounded the aorta and vena cava. There was hydronephrosis of the left kidney. Histopathologic evaluation of the mass revealed islands of neoplastic epithelial cells separated by fibrous connective tissue and areas of gradual keratinization with rare squamous metaplasia. The histologic diagnosis was invasive carcinoma with desmoplasia and vascular invasion. Relevance and novel information Primary carcinomas of the kidney in cats are rare and this report documents a progression of disease not previously reported in cats. This is the second reported case of a primary carcinoma of renal origin with features of squamous cell carcinoma in a cat, and the first with lumbar and vascular invasion. This is also the first use of kidney injury molecule-1 to help investigate tumor differentiation in cats.

Abstract
Objective Kidney cancers account for approximately 2% of all newly diagnosed cancer in 2020. Among the primary treatment options for kidney cancer, urologist may choose between radical or partial nephrectomy, or ablative therapies. Nowadays, robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) for the management of renal cancers has gained popularity, up to being considered the gold standard. However, RAPN is a challenging procedure with a steep learning curve. Methods In this narrative review, different imaging technologies used to guide and aid RAPN are discussed. Results Three-dimensional visualization technology has been extensively discussed in RAPN, showing its value in enhancing robotic-surgery training, patient counseling, surgical planning, and intraoperative guidance. Intraoperative imaging technologies such as intracorporeal ultrasound, near-infrared fluorescent imaging, and intraoperative pathological examination can also be used to improve the outcomes following RAPN. Finally, artificial intelligence may play a role in the field of RAPN soon. Conclusion RAPN is a complex surgery; however, many imaging technologies may play an important role in facilitating it.

Abstract
The International Kidney Cancer Coalition (IKCC) is a federation of 46 affiliated patient organisations representing 1.2 million patients worldwide that is committed to reducing the global burden of kidney cancer. A large-scale global survey of patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) to capture real-world experiences has never been undertaken. The 35-question survey was designed to identify geographic variations in patient education, experience, awareness, access to care, best practices, quality of life, and unmet psychosocial needs. A total of 1983 responses were recorded from 43 countries in 14 languages. Analysis revealed key findings. (1) At diagnosis, 43% of all respondents had no understanding of their RCC subtype. (2) Shared decision-making remains aspirational: globally, 29% of all patients reported no involvement in their treatment decision, responding “My doctor decided for me”. (3) While 96% of respondents reported psychosocial impacts, surprisingly, only 50% disclosed them to their health care team. (4) Lastly, 70% of patients were not asked to participate in a clinical trial, although 90% indicated they would be interested. The survey reflects patient perspectives from diverse clinical scenarios in which different treatment options are available. The data point to actionable deficits in the fields of clinical trials, psychosocial support, and shared decision-making. Patient summary In this brief report, we highlight the key results from the first large-scale global survey of patients with kidney cancer to capture real-world experiences. This survey reflects patient perspectives from diverse clinical scenarios in which different treatment options are available. We conclude that there is a need for improvement in the fields of clinical trials, psychosocial support, and shared decision-making.

Abstract
Disparities are common and well-known in the field of clinical oncology and cancer research. In patient care, poor access and a number of other factors disadvantage patients and this can lead to inadequate screening, prevention or treatment of cancer and poor patient outcomes. World-wide, socioeconomic status, health care expenditures and a number of other challenges contribute to disparities in cancer care and patient outcomes. Access to cancer clinical trials remains inadequate for underrepresented minorities as well as non-white racial and ethnic groups. There are also disparities and many challenges in the biomedical research enterprise that can limit innovation and that must be addressed as part of active interventions.
