Abstract
Ten new palladium(II) complexes [PdCl(L1-10)]Cl have been synthesized by the reaction of palladium(II) chloride and ten 4'-(substituted-phenyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine ligands bearing hydrogen(L1), p-hydroxyl(L2), m-hydroxyl (L3), o-hydroxyl (L4), methyl (L5), phenyl (L6), fluoro (L7), chloro (L8), bromo (L9), or iodo (L10). Their structures were confirmed by FT-IR, 1H NMR, elemental analysis and/or single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Their in vitro anticancer activities were investigated based on five cell lines, including four cancer cell lines (A549, Eca-109, Bel-7402, MCF-7) and one normal cell line (HL-7702). The results show that these complexes possess a strong killing effect on the cancer cells but a weak proliferative inhibition on the normal cells, implying their high inhibitory selectivity for the proliferation of the cancer cell lines. Flow cytometry characterization reveals that these complexes affect cell proliferation mainly in the G0/G1 phase and induce the late apoptotic of the cells. The quantity of palladium(II) ion in extracted DNA was determined by ICP-MS, which proved that these complexes target genomic DNA. And the strong affinity of the complexes with CT-DNA were confirmed by UV-Vis spectrum and circular dichroism (CD). The possible binding modes of the complexes with DNA were further explored by molecular docking. As the concentration of complexes 1-10 gradually increases, the fluorescence intensity of bovine serum albumin (BSA) decreases by a static quenching mechanism.

Abstract
The nonlinear-optical (NLO) materials with second-harmonic-generation (SHG) response need to crystallize in the noncentrosymmetric space group. It is very difficult to control the synthetic conditions to solely form a noncentrosymmetric phase for the materials with noncentrosymmetric and centrosymmetric conformations. Herein, we found that the temperature and halogen anion play an important role during the formation procedure of the pure noncentrosymmetric or centrosymmetric phase for the halogen-based family of coordination polymers to yield hybrid materials with a phase-matching SHG response as well as inherit the primary excellent photonic property of organic linkers. Our results provide a good choice for the design and construction of novel materials with a particular photonic property.

Abstract
The unique role of the zinc (II) cation prompted us to cut a cross-section of the large and complex topic of the stimuli-responsive coordination polymers (CPs). Due to its flexible coordination environment and geometries, easiness of coordination-decoordination equilibria, "optically innocent" ability to "clip" the ligands in emissive architectures, non-toxicity and sustainability, the zinc (II) cation is a good candidate for building supramolecular smart tools. The review summarizes the recent achievements of zinc-based CPs as stimuli-responsive materials able to provide a chromic response. An overview of the past five years has been organised, encompassing 1, 2 and 3D responsive zinc-based CPs; specifically zinc-based metallorganic frameworks and zinc-based nanosized polymeric probes. The most relevant examples were collected following a consequential and progressive approach, referring to the structure-responsiveness relationship, the sensing mechanisms, the analytes and/or parameters detected. Finally, applications of highly bioengineered Zn-CPs for advanced imaging technique have been discussed.

Abstract
Crystalline porous materials have been extensively explored for wide applications in many fields including nonlinear optics (NLO) for frequency doubling, two-photon absorption/emission, optical limiting effect, photoelectric conversion, and biological imaging. The structural diversity and flexibility of the crystalline porous materials such as the metal-organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks, and polyoxometalates provide numerous opportunities to orderly organize the dipolar chromophores and to systemically modify the type and concentration of these dipolar chromophores in the confined spaces, which are highly desirable for NLO. Here, the recent advances in the crystalline porous NLO materials are discussed. The second-order NLO of crystalline porous materials have been mainly devoted to the chiral and achiral structures, while the third-order NLO crystalline porous materials have been categorized into pure organic and hybrid organic/inorganic materials. Some representative properties and applications of these crystalline porous materials in the NLO regime are highlighted. The future perspective of challenges as well as the potential research directions of crystalline porous materials have been also proposed.

Abstract
The use of divergent 4,2′:6′,4″- and 3,2′:6′,3″-terpyridine ligands as linkers and/or nodes in extended coordination assemblies has gained in popularity over the last decade. However, there is also a range of coordination polymers which feature 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine metal-binding domains. Of the remaining 45 isomers of terpyridine, few have been utilized in extended coordination arrays. Here, we provide an overview of coordination polymers and networks containing isomers of terpyridine and either zinc(II) and cadmium(II). Although the motivation for investigations of many of these systems is their luminescent behavior, we have chosen to focus mainly on structural details, and we assess to what extent assemblies are reproducible. We also consider cases where there is structural evidence for competitive product formation. A point that emerges is the lack of systematic investigations.

Abstract
The first 4,2':6',4''-terpyridine (4,2':6',4''-tpy) containing coordination polymer was reported over 20 years ago and in the last decade, there has been increased interest in the use of ditopic 4,2':6',4''-tpy ligands as linkers in coordination polymers and 2D-networks. Functionalization in the 4'-position of 4,2':6',4''-tpy is synthetically straightforward, giving access to a large suite of building blocks. Less well explored is the coordination chemistry of 3,2':6',3''-tpy ligands which exhibit greater conformational flexibility than 4,2':6',4''-tpy. One approach to making the transition from 2D- to 3D-networks is to utilize tetratopic bis(4,2':6',4''-tpy) and bis(3,2':6',3''-tpy) ligands which act as 4-connecting nodes. In this highlight, we survey recent progress towards a better understanding of the design principles associated with the use of ditopic and tetratopic 4,2':6',4''-tpy and 3,2':6',3''-tpy containing ligands and their roles both as linkers and nodes in coordination assemblies.

Abstract
The complex trans-[RuNO(NH3)4F]SiF6 was synthesized in quantitative yield and the structure was characterized by X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic methods. The complex crystallizes in the non-centrosymmetric space group Pn. Hirshfeld surface analysis revealed that the dominant intermolecular interactions are of types H...F and F...O, which are likely to be responsible for the packing of the molecules in a non-centrosymmetric structure. Irradiation with blue light leads to the formation of Ru-ON (metastable state MS1) and Ru-η2-(NO) (metastable state MS2) bond isomers, as shown by IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The structural features of the MS1 isomer were elucidated by photocrystallography. The complex exhibits exceptionally good thermal stability of the metastable state MS1, such that it can be populated by light at 290-300 K, which is important for potential applications. The second harmonic (SH) emission can be generated by femtosecond-pulsed irradiation of the complex. The generated SH is rather efficient and stable under long-term exposure. Finally, since both metastable states and harmonic generation can be generated at room temperature, an attempt to drive the SH response by photoisomerization of the nitrosyl ligand was made and is discussed.

Abstract
Zinc is a biocompatible element that exists as the second most abundant transition metal ion and an indispensable trace element in the human body. Compared to traditional metal-organic complexes systems, d10 metal ZnII complexes not only exhibit a large Stokes shift and good photon stability but also possess strong emission and low cytotoxicity with a relatively small molecular weight. The use of ZnII complexes has emerged in the last decade as a versatile and convenient tool for numerous biological applications, including bioimaging, molecular and protein recognition, as well as photodynamic therapy. Herein, we review recent developments involving ZnII metal complexes applied as specific subcellular compartment imaging probes and their correlated utilizations.
