Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine whether intrauterine device (IUD) use is associated with a significantly increased risk of abnormal cervical cytology. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was carried out at the University of Campinas, Campinas, SP, Brazil. Data came from medical records of 2,963 women from a family planning clinic who had undergone at least one cervical cytology for screening between 1990 and 2017. Women were split into three groups: users of either copper (Cu)- or the levonorgestrel 52 mg-IUD (2,305) and users of other contraceptive methods (658). The dependent variable was the cytological results as normal and abnormal, based on the Bethesda System. The most severe cytological result of each participant was considered and when all her results were normal, the last one was considered. RESULTS IUD use was associated with a lower risk of abnormal cervical cytology after adjusting for the number of cytology assessments per participant (RR 0.74; 95% CI 0.55;0.99; p = 0.049). Abnormal cervical cytology was more common in women with multiple cytology assessments and a longer duration since sexual debut. For each additional cytology test, the risk increased by 33.8% (p < 0.001), and for every additional year since sexual debut, the risk increased by 6.2% (p < 0.001). A lower incidence of abnormal cervical cytology was observed among women with a history of caesarean delivery, with a 24.9% reduction in risk per additional caesarean (p < 0.001). IUD users underwent more cervical cytology assessments than non-IUD users. CONCLUSION We identified low risk of abnormal cervical cytology among IUD users.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Understanding the distribution of type specific human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes in screen-detected lesions is crucial to differentiate women who are at a higher risk of developing cervical cancer. This study aimed to find out high-risk HPV genotype distribution among women of the coastal districts of Bangladesh. METHODS This cross-sectional study conducted from January 2023 to December 2023 aimed to investigate the prevalence and distribution patterns of high-risk HPV genotypes among ever-married women aged 30-60 years residing in three coastal districts of Bangladesh. Sampling was purposive, with 300 participants per district. Exclusion criteria included prior cervical precancer or cancer treatment, hysterectomy, cervical amputation, and pregnancy. HPV DNA specimens were collected and tested using Cobas 4800. Positive cases underwent further genotype analysis with GenoFlowTM HPV Array Test Kit. Statistical analysis utilized SPSS version 25.0, employing Chi-square and Fisher's Exact tests. RESULTS Among 900 participants HR-HPV prevalence was 2.56%. HPV 16 was the most prevalent genotype (38.46%), followed by HPV 66 and HPV 68 (11.54% each). Single infections of HPV 16 predominated (39.13%), while for co-infections HPV 66 and HPV 68 were most common (13.04%). HR-HPV positivity increased with age, peaking at 5.5% in the 55-60 years' age group. Participants education level, occupation, income, and reproductive history showed no significant association with HPV positivity. District-wise prevalence varied insignificantly, with Jhalokathi exhibiting the highest (3.0%), followed by Cox's Bazar (2.7%), and Bagerhat (2.0%). HPV 16 was the predominant genotype across districts, with Cox's Bazar and Jhalokathi demonstrating greater genotype diversity than Bagerhat. CONCLUSION The study concludes that among ever-married women in the coastal districts of Bangladesh, there is a low prevalence of high-risk HPV. The predominant high-risk HPV genotypes identified were HPV 16, followed by HPV 66 and 68. These findings hold significant implications for policy makers, providing guidance for targeted screening strategies and vaccination programs.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to investigate Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and genotyping in men from Chongqing and analyze age-related trends to provide insights for HPV prevention and vaccination plans tailored for men in Chongqing, China. METHODS This study is an observational study. We investigated male patients who underwent HPV screening at two hospitals in Chongqing from 2017 to 2022, totaling 4,381 cases, aged 18 to 85. HPV genotyping was conducted using the Hybribio Rapid GenoArray kit. RESULTS Among the 4,381 men, the overall HPV prevalence was 14.9%, peaking at 19.3% in 2022. Single HPV infection was 11.5%, and multiple infection was 3.4%. The most prevalent genotypes were HPV-52, HPV-16, and HPV-58. Single high-risk HPV infection peaked in the 36-45 age group, while multiple high-risk HPV infection decreased with age (P-trend < 0.01). Prevalence in the ≤ 25 age group was 3.7%. Single low-risk HPV infection also decreased with age (P-trend = 0.03). Genotypes covered by the nonavalent vaccine had the highest prevalence, increasing with age. Co-infection of HPV-16 with HPV-52 and HPV-58 was common. Single HPV infections were prevalent in cases of urethritis (30.8%), anogenital warts (36.4%), and genital warts (26.3%), while multiple HPV infections were significant in anogenital warts (18.2%). CONCLUSIONS Single HPV infection was predominant in Chongqing, with HPV-52, HPV-16, HPV-58, HPV-53, and HPV-39 being the most prevalent genotypes. The prevalence of genotypes covered by the nonavalent vaccine increased with age. This study offers valuable insights for developing male-specific HPV prevention strategies in Chongqing.

Abstract
Background: Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among females globally, with a high incidence and high mortality among females in developing countries. This retrospective case-control study aimed to investigate the association between oral contraceptives and cervical cancer, on which insufficient evidence still exists. Material and Methods: To examine the association between oral contraceptives and cervical cancer based on 7,496 females aged over 20 years from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, multivariable logistic regression conducted from 1999 to 2016 was used. Results: Contraceptive use was positively associated with cervical cancer risk. In model 1 (unadjusted), a 195% increased risk of cervical cancer was observed among those who used oral contraceptives (odds ratio [OR] = 2.27, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.39-3.98, p = 0.002) compared to those who did not. In addition, the ORs for the exposed population were 1.74 (95% CI = 1.05-3.08, p = 0.041) and 1.93 (95% CI = 1.16-3.44, p = 0.017) in model 2 (adjusted for age, race, and body mass index [BMI]) and model 3 (adjusted for education level, ratio of family income to poverty, drinking status, smoking status, number of pregnancies, age at first sex, number of sexual partners, and whether to receive the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in addition to model 2), respectively. Furthermore, subgroup analyses stratified by age, smoking status, BMI, age at first sex, number of sexual partners, and whether to receive the HPV vaccine also revealed that oral contraceptives were significantly associated with cervical cancer. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that oral contraceptive use increased the risk of cervical cancer. In addition, the higher risk, including individuals older than 45 years, having a high BMI (≥30 kg/m2), being current smokers, and having more than five sexual partners, may contribute to the development of cervical cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the national human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination program of South Korea among its entire female population, particularly among younger age groups. MATERIALS AND METHODS We first predicted the incidence of cervical cancer over the next 20 years (2021-2040) using the Nordpred package based on Møller's age-period-cohort model under several scenarios for the national HPV vaccination program. We calculated the potential impact fractions and proportional differences under the current national vaccination programs, and alternative scenarios using the no-vaccination assumption as a reference. RESULTS We estimated that the current national vaccination program would prevent 4.13% of cervical cancer cases and reduce the age-standardized incidence rate (ASR) by 8.79% in the overall population by 2036-2040. Under the alternative scenario of implementing the nine-valent vaccine, 5.13% of cervical cancer cases could be prevented and the ASR reduced by 10.93% during the same period. In another scenario, expanding the vaccination age to 9-17 years could prevent 10.19% of cervical cancer cases, with the ASR reduced by 18.57% during the same period. When restricted to ages < 40 years, the prevention effect was remarkably greater. We predict that the current national HPV program will reduce its incidence by more than 30% between 2036 and 2040 in women aged < 40 years. CONCLUSION The effectiveness of the vaccination program in reducing the incidence of cervical cancer was confirmed, with a considerable impact anticipated in younger age groups.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Planning vaccination and treatment options requires knowledge about the regional incidence of human papillomavirus infection (HPV) and its genotypes. The aim of our study was to determine the regional prevalence of HPV with genotypic subclassification and to evaluate the efficacy of HPV testing in cervical screening. Material and Method: This retrospective cohort study analyzed records of 10,152 women aged 30-65 from the On Dokuz Mayıs University Medical Faculty's Gynecology Clinic, excluding those with a history of cervical disease, hysterectomy, or current pregnancy. Pre- and postmenopausal and total HPV prevalence were calculated. There was a total of 544 patients who underwent a colposcopic biopsy after cervical screening. The research focused on comparing the efficacy of Pap smears, HPV tests, and co-tests in detecting LSIL or more severe conditions, utilizing the BD Viper LT System for HPV screening and liquid-based cytology for smear tests. RESULTS The prevalence of HPV in our region was determined to be 10.9%. When considering menopausal status, HPV prevalence was found to be 9.8% in premenopausal individuals and 12.4% in postmenopausal individuals. Evaluation of the pap smear results revealed a sensitivity of 74.8% for premenopausal and 81% for postmenopausal patients, with a specificity of 51% observed in both menopausal categories. In contrast, HPV testing demonstrated a sensitivity of 90.8% in premenopausal and 92.4% in postmenopausal individuals, with a specificity of 58% for both groups. The co-test results indicated an even higher sensitivity, with 97.9% in premenopausal and 100% in postmenopausal individuals, albeit with a reduced specificity of 28% in both cases. When identifying LSIL (low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions) and more severe conditions, the sensitivity and specificity of the primary HPV test surpassed those of the pap smear. While the primary HPV test's sensitivity is markedly lower compared to the co-test, it boasts a significantly higher specificity. CONCLUSION Regional HPV prevalence studies are valuable for the implementation of screening policies. The primary HPV DNA test is a reliable method for detecting preinvasive and invasive lesions in patients over 30 years of age.

Abstract
Condyloma acuminatum (CA) is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. It is important to study the prevalence and distribution of HPV genotypes before implementing the HPV vaccination program. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiological characteristics of CA cases and the distribution of HPV genotypes in Shandong Province, China. One-to-one questionnaire surveys were conducted on all patients diagnosed with CA in sentinel hospitals from Shandong Province, China. HPV genotypes were determined using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-reverse dot blot hybridization method. The study enrolled 1185 patients (870 males and 315 females) and found that CA patients are mainly males and sexually active people between the ages of 20 and 40. Recurrence occurred in 34.7% patients. Among the 880 CA patients who underwent HPV typing, the HPV test positivity rate was 91.4%. In these cases, low-risk (LR) HPV infection was predominant, with an infection rate of 91.3%, while high-risk (HR) HPV genotypes were found in 53.5% patients. The most frequent HPV genotypes encountered were HPV6 (57.8%), HPV11 (37.2%), HPV16 (13.7%), and HPV42 (10.3%). HPV6 and/or HPV11 are the main infections in all patients, and more than half of the patients are coinfected with HR-HPV. However, unlike other regions, HPV42 has a higher prevalence rate among CA patients in Shandong Province and is a nonvaccine HPV genotype. Therefore, regular HPV typing helps to understand the characteristics of specific genotypes and the choice of the best type for vaccine coverage.

Abstract
Background Over the past decade, 15 high-priority countries in eastern and southern Africa have promoted voluntary medical male circumcision for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention. The prevalence of male circumcision in Uganda nearly doubled from 26% in 2011 to 43% in 2016, but remains below the 2020 target level. Little is known about how common male circumcision is perceived to be, how accurate such perceptions are, and whether they are associated with men's own circumcision uptake. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study of all adult residents of eight villages in Rwampara District, southwestern Uganda in 2020-2022. We elicited their perceptions of the adult male circumcision prevalence within their village: >50% (most men), 10% to <50% (some), <10%, (few to none), or do not know. We compared their perceived norms to the aggregated prevalence of circumcision reported in these villages. We used a modified multivariable Poisson regression model to estimate the association between perceived norms and personal circumcision uptake among men. Results We surveyed 1566 participants (91% response rate): 698 men and 868 women. Among the men, 167 (27%) reported being circumcised, including 167/444 (38%) men <50 years of age. Approximately one-fourth of the population (189 (27%) men and 177 (20%) women) believed that few to no men in their own village had been circumcised. In a multivariable regression model, men who underestimated the prevalence of male circumcision were less likely to be circumcised themselves (adjusted relative risk (aRR) = 0.51; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.37-0.83). Conclusions In this population-based study in rural Uganda, one-fourth of men underestimated the prevalence of male circumcision. Men who underestimated the extent of circumcision uptake were themselves less likely to be circumcised. If the observed association is causal and underestimates within the population contribute to low uptake, then interventions correcting these misperceived norms could increase uptake of voluntary medical male circumcision.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and their co-infections on different genders and ages. METHODS Different samples of secretions from the reproductive system were collected from 459 males and 494 females for HPV and STI detection. RESULTS Total HPV infection rate was 49.46 % for males and 48.99 % for females, and the distribution of HPV subtypes varied significantly between different genders. The infection rate of HR-HPV 52 and 31 in females was higher than that in males (p = 0.002 and 0.039, respectively). In contrast, the infection rate of LR-HPV 6 and 11 in males was higher than that in females (p = 0.01 and 0.001, respectively). Females had a significantly higher infection rate of Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU). Besides, these STIs were stratified based on age and the results indicated that the highest incidence of STIs was observed in younger patients (<20 years old). Patients with HPV infections had a higher incidence of Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) in both males and females. CONCLUSIONS There is a need to perform HPV, CT and UU screening among patients, and more thorough health education for younger patients is of great clinical significance to improve treatment and prognosis.

Abstract
Male circumcision (MC) reduces HIV transmission risk by up to 60% in heterosexual men. However, uptake of medical male circumcision (MMC) is low in traditionally circumcising communities of South Africa. We assessed knowledge, attitudes, and practices to identify factors predicting acceptability of MMC among males in the Alfred Nzo District. A cross-sectional study was conducted among males aged 15-49 years in this district. Logistic regression was used to identify factors predicting acceptability of MMC. We interviewed 343 males who had a median age of 19 years (interquartile range (IQR): 16-25 years). Of these, 77% (95% confidence interval (CI): 72-82) were circumcised: 77% (95% CI: 71-82) were circumcised in a traditional setting and 21% (95% CI: 16-26) in a medical setting. The median score of knowledge about the benefits of MMC was 62.5% (IQR: 37.5-75.0), with 59% (95% CI: 53-64) demonstrating a positive attitude towards MMC and 68% (95% CI: 63-73) accepting involvement of health workers in MC. Excellent knowledge (adjusted odds ratio (aOR): 3.07, 95% CI: 0.99-9.58, p = 0.053), awareness (aOR: 3.26, 95% CI: 1.08-9.86, p = 0.037), and positive attitude towards MMC (aOR: 2.35, 95% CI: 1.30-4.25, p = 0.005) were associated with acceptability of MMC. Participants demonstrated good knowledge and acceptance of the MMC programme. Knowledge, attitude, and awareness were significant predictors of MMC acceptability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The epidemiology of human papillomavirus (HPV) in women has been well documented. Less is known about the epidemiology of HPV in men. We aim to provide updated global and regional pooled overall, type-specific, and age-specific prevalence estimates of genital HPV infection in men. METHODS We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the prevalence of genital HPV infection in the general male population. We searched Embase, Ovid MEDLINE, and the Global Index Medicus for studies published between Jan 1, 1995, and June 1, 2022. Inclusion criteria were population-based surveys in men aged 15 years or older or HPV prevalence studies with a sample size of at least 50 men with no HPV-related pathology or known risk factors for HPV infection that collected samples from anogenital sites and used PCR or hybrid capture 2 techniques for HPV DNA detection. Exclusion criteria were studies conducted among populations at increased risk of HPV infection, exclusively conducted among circumcised men, and based on urine or semen samples. We screened identified reports and extracted summary-level data from those that were eligible. Data were extracted by two researchers independently and reviewed by a third, and discrepancies were resolved by consensus. We extracted only data on mucosal α-genus HPVs. Global and regional age-specific prevalences for any HPV, high-risk (HR)-HPV, and individual HPV types were estimated using random-effects models for meta-analysis and grouped by UN Sustainable Development Goals geographical classification. FINDINGS We identified 5685 publications from database searches, of which 65 studies (comprising 44 769 men) were included from 35 countries. The global pooled prevalence was 31% (95% CI 27-35) for any HPV and 21% (18-24) for HR-HPV. HPV-16 was the most prevalent HPV genotype (5%, 95% CI 4-7) followed by HPV-6 (4%, 3-5). HPV prevalence was high in young adults, reaching a maximum between the ages of 25 years and 29 years, and stabilised or slightly decreased thereafter. Pooled prevalence estimates were similar for the UN Sustainable Development Goal geographical regions of Europe and Northern America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Australia and New Zealand (Oceania). The estimates for Eastern and South-Eastern Asia were half that of the other regions. INTERPRETATION Almost one in three men worldwide are infected with at least one genital HPV type and around one in five men are infected with one or more HR-HPV types. Our findings show that HPV prevalence is high in men over the age of 15 years and support that sexually active men, regardless of age, are an important reservoir of HPV genital infection. These estimates emphasise the importance of incorporating men in comprehensive HPV prevention strategies to reduce HPV-related morbidity and mortality in men and ultimately achieve elimination of cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases. Abstract
Introduction Over the past decade, 15 high-priority countries in eastern and southern Africa have promoted voluntary medical male circucmsion for HIV and STI prevention. Despite male circumcision prevalence in Uganda nearly doubling from 26% in 2011 to 43% in 2016, it remained below the target level by 2020. Little is known about perceived norms of male circumcision and their association with circumcision uptake among men. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study targeting all adult residents across eight villages in Rwampara District, southwestern Uganda in 2020-2022. We compared what men and women reported as the adult male circumcision prevalence within their village (perceived norm: >50% (most), 10% to <50% (some), <10%, (few), or do not know) to the aggregated prevalence of circumcision as reported by men aged <50 years. We used a modified multivariable Poisson regression model to estimate the association between perceived norms about male circumcision uptake and personal circumcision status among men. Results Overall, 167 (38%) men < 50 years old were circumcised (and 27% of all men were circumcised). Among all 1566 participants (91% response rate), 189 (27%) men and 177 (20%) women underestimated the male circumcision prevalence, thinking that few men in their own village had been circumcised. Additionally, 10% of men and 25% of women reported not knowing the prevalence. Men who underestimated the prevalence were less likely to be circumcised (aRR = 0.51, 95% CI 0.37 to 0.83) compared to those who thought that some village men were circumcised, adjusting for perceived personal risk of HIV, whether any same-household women thought most men were circumcised, and other sociodemographic factors. Conclusions Across eight villages, a quarter of the population underestimated the local prevalence of male circumcision. Men who underestimated circumcision uptake were less likely to be circumcised. Future research should evaluate norms-based approaches to promoting male circumcision uptake. Strategies may include disseminating messages about the increasing prevalence of adult male circumcision uptake in Uganda and providing personalized normative feedback to men who underestimated local rates about how uptake is greater than they thought.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have suggested a protective effect of male circumcision on human papillomavirus (HPV) infections in males, and that this protection may be conferred to their female sexual partners. OBJECTIVES To synthesize the available evidence on the association between male circumcision and HPV infections in males and females. DATA SOURCES We searched MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane, LILACS, and ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global for records published up to 22 June 2022. STUDY ELIGIBILITY We considered observational and experimental studies that assessed male circumcision status and HPV prevalence, incidence, or clearance in males or females for inclusion. PARTICIPANTS Males and their female sexual partners who were tested for genital HPV infection. INTERVENTIONS Male circumcision compared to no circumcision. RISK OF BIAS ASSESSMENT The Newcastle-Ottawa scale was used for observational studies and the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool was used for randomized trials. DATA SYNTHESIS We estimated summary measures of effect and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for the prevalence, incidence, and clearance of HPV infections in males and females using random-effects meta-analysis. We assessed effect modification of circumcision on HPV prevalence by penile site in males using random-effects meta-regression. RESULTS Across 32 studies, male circumcision was associated with decreased odds of prevalent HPV infections (OR 0.45, CI 0.34-0.61), a reduced incidence rate of HPV infections (IRR 0.69, CI 0.57-0.83), and an increased risk of clearing HPV infections (RR 1.44, CI 1.28-1.61) at the glans penis among male subjects. Circumcision conferred greater protection against infection at the glans than shaft (OR 0.68, 95% CI 0.48-0.98). Females with circumcised partners were protected from all outcomes. CONCLUSIONS Male circumcision may protect against various HPV infection outcomes, suggesting its prophylactic potential. Understanding site-specific effects of circumcision on HPV infection prevalence has important implications for studies of HPV transmission.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the clinical behavior of human papillomavirus in men. MATERIALS AND METHODS Current international literature was reviewed to describe the clinical behavior of human papillomavirus in men. RESULTS Internationally, the overall prevalence of HPV DNA is 50.8%, HPV considered high risk are 14 types. Prevalence of HPV DNA in invasive penile cancer ranges from 33.1% to 47%. HPV-16 has been the most frequent (68.3%), followed by HPV-6 (8.1%) and HPV-18 (6.9%). Positive HPV is described as an independent prognostic factor for cancer-specific survival. CONCLUSION It is not clear why HPV infection has a predilection in specific areas of the genital tract. However, it is important to note that there are factors that increase the risk of HPV infection.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW With the promise of HIV prevention, there has been a scale-up of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) in high HIV incidence/low circumcision prevalence nations worldwide. Nonetheless, debates over the implementation and the effectiveness and safety of the VMMC in real-world settings persist. We revisit the role of VMMC in HIV prevention to inform health professionals, policymakers, and advocates or opponents in this new era. RECENT FINDINGS There has been substantial progress on VMMC scale-up to date, but this has varied considerably by region. The evidence of solid and direct protection of VMMC is available for heterosexual men and older adolescent boys in sub-Saharan Africa. The protective effect in men who have sex with men is suggested by systematic reviews but is not confirmed by clinical trials. Sexual partners, including women, likely benefit indirectly from the increased VMMC coverage through a decreased risk of exposure to infected male partners. Fortunately, the preponderance of studies does not suggest higher sexual risk behaviors among circumcised men, so-called risk compensation. VMMC requires health systems strengthening and continued promulgation of other evidence-based HIV prevention strategies to be successful. Health authorities in high HIV incidence areas that have low circumcision coverage should implement VMMC within a context of complementary biomedical and behavioral prevention strategies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the prevalence of HPV and investigate factors associated with the infection in women in the city of Francisco Beltrão, southwest Paraná, attending the public health system. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 324 women, aged between 18 and 65 years, who were attending public health services for routine gynecological consultation. Interviews were conducted to obtain information about socioeconomic, sexual, gynecological, and life habits. After performing the Papanicolaou test, endocervical brush was employed to detect HPV by polymerase chain reaction with the primers MY09-MY11. RESULTS The prevalence of HPV was 6.8%, out of which 58.3% presented with cytopathologic alterations. And the presence of current cervical alterations can increase the chances of having HPV by almost 33 times (ORadj: 32.688; p < 0.001), recent vaginal infection increased the chances of HPV infection by 2.7 times (ORadj: 2.773; p = 0.04). The non-white ethnicity increased HPV infection chances threefold (ORadj: 3.058; p = 0.039). CONCLUSION The main finding was low prevalence of HPV infection. Factors that may be linked to HPV infection were cervical alterations, recent vaginal infection, and women's ethnicity.

Abstract
Men should not be overlooked in research on human papillomavirus (HPV) and its associated genital diseases. This is because men infected with HPV are not only at higher risk of genital cancers, but also increase their partners' risk of HPV infection and reinfection through sexual contact. Herein, we summarized the state of knowledge regarding the prevention and treatment of HPV infection in men as well as the possible effects of the prevention and treatment of HPV in men on their female partners. Condom use, smoking cessation, male circumcision, and HPV vaccination for men each play an important role in preventing HPV infection within heterosexual couples. Additionally, men could choose to test for certain types of HPV, such as the oncogenic HPV16 or HPV18 strains, as part of a routine screening program when their partner is positive for HPV. Although there is no recognized treatment for HPV infection as of yet, immunotherapy drugs, such as toll-like receptor agonists, therapeutic HPV vaccines, and immune checkpoint inhibitors, have shown promising results in clinical trials and in actual clinical practice. HPV infection in men also increases the risk of cervical cancer in their female partners. Because of the high partner concordance for HPV demonstrated in prior research, the prevention and treatment of HPV in men should be explored more comprehensively in future research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although penile cancer (PC) is uncommon in developed countries, it is widespread in developing countries. The state of Maranhão (Northeast, Brazil) has the highest global incidence recorded for PC, and, despite its socioeconomic vulnerability, it has been attributed to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. This study aimed to determine the histopathological features, the prevalence of HPV infection, and the immunohistochemical profile of PC in Maranhão. METHODS A retrospective cohort of 200 PC cases were evaluated. HPV detection was performed using nested-PCR followed by direct sequencing for genotyping. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was performed using monoclonal antibodies anti-p16INK4a, p53, and ki-67. RESULTS Our data revealed a delay of 17 months in diagnosis, a high rate of penile amputation (96.5%), and HPV infection (80.5%) in patients from Maranhão (Molecular detection). We demonstrated the high rate of HPV in PC also by histopathological and IHC analysis. Most patients presented koilocytosis (75.5%), which was associated with those reporting more than 10 different sexual partners during their lifetime (p = 0.001). IHC revealed frequent p16INK4a overexpression (26.0%) associated with basaloid (p < 0.001) and high-grade tumors (p = 0.008). Interestingly, p16 appears not to be a better prognostic factor in our disease-free survival analysis, as previously reported. We also demonstrated high ki-67 and p53 expression in a subset of cases, which was related to worse prognostic factors such as high-grade tumors, angiolymphatic and perineural invasion, and lymph node metastasis. We found a significant impact of high ki-67 (p = 0.002, log-rank) and p53 (p = 0.032, log-rank) expression on decreasing patients' survival, as well as grade, pT, stage, pattern, and depth of invasion (p < 0.05, log-rank). CONCLUSIONS Our data reaffirmed the high incidence of HPV infection in PC cases from Maranhão and offer new insights into potential factors that may contribute to the high PC incidence in the region. We highlighted the possible association of HPV with worse clinical prognosis factors, differently from what was observed in other regions. Furthermore, our IHC analysis reinforces p16, ki-67, and p53 expression as important diagnosis and/or prognosis biomarkers, potentially used in the clinical setting in emerging countries such as Brazil.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies examining the association between male circumcision (MC) and human papillomavirus (HPV) infections have reported inconsistent results. We used data from the HPV Infection and Transmission Among Couples Through Heterosexual Activity (HITCH) cohort study to examine the association between MC and HPV infections in males and their female sexual partners. METHODS We enrolled monogamous couples in a longitudinal study between 2005 and 2011 in Montreal, Canada. We used logistic and Poisson regression models with propensity score adjustment to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and rate ratios for the association between MC and the prevalence, transmission, and clearance of HPV infections. RESULTS Four hundred thirteen couples were included in our study. The prevalence OR for the association between MC and baseline infections was 0.81 (95% confidence interval [CI], .56-1.16) in males and 1.05 (95% CI, .75-1.46) in females. The incidence rate ratio for infection transmission was 0.59 (95% CI, .16-2.20) for male-to-female transmission and 0.77 (95% CI, .37-1.60) for female-to-male transmission. The clearance rate ratio for clearance of infections was 0.81 (95% CI, .52-1.24). CONCLUSIONS We found little evidence of an association between MC and HPV infection prevalence, transmission, or clearance in males and females. Further longitudinal couple-based studies are required to investigate this association.

Abstract
Population-based studies in high-income countries have failed to find that male circumcision protects against sexually transmitted infections. Using evidence from several sources, we show that male circumcision does protect against HIV during insertive intercourse for men who have sex with men.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cervical cancer (CC) is the leading cause of cancer-related death among women in sub-Saharan Africa. It occurs most frequently in women living with HIV (WLHIV) and is classified as an AIDS-defining illness. Recent World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations provide guidance for CC prevention policies, with specifications for WLHIV. We systematically reviewed policies for CC prevention and control in sub-Saharan countries with the highest HIV prevalence. METHODS We included countries with an HIV prevalence ≥ 10% in 2018 and policies published between January 1st 2010 and March 31st 2022. We searched Medline via PubMed, the international cancer control partnership website and national governmental websites of included countries for relevant policy documents. The online document search was supplemented with expert consultation for each included country. We synthesised aspects defined in policies for HPV vaccination, sex education, condom use, tobacco control, male circumcision,cervical screening, diagnosis and treatment of cervical pre-cancerous lesions and cancer, monitoring mechanisms and cost of services to women while highlighting specificities for WLHIV. RESULTS We reviewed 33 policy documents from nine countries. All included countries had policies on CC prevention and control either as a standalone policy (77.8%), or as part of a cancer or non-communicable diseases policy (22.2%) or both (66.7%). Aspects of HPV vaccination were reported in 7 (77.8%) of the 9 countries. All countries (100%) planned to develop or review Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials for CC prevention including condom use and tobacco control. Age at screening commencement and screening intervals for WLHIV varied across countries. The most common recommended screening and treatment methods were visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) (88.9%), Pap smear (77.8%); cryotherapy (100%) and loop electrosurgical procedure (LEEP) (88.9%) respectively. Global indicators disaggregated by HIV status for monitoring CC programs were rarely reported. CC prevention and care policies included service costs at various stages in three countries (33.3%). CONCLUSION Considerable progress has been made in policy development for CC prevention and control in sub Saharan Africa. However, in countries with a high HIV burden, there is need to tailor these policies to respond to the specific needs of WLHIV. Countries may consider updating policies using the recent WHO guidelines for CC prevention, while adapting them to context realities.

Abstract
Several large-scale clinical trials have conclusively demonstrated that voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) could provide a 50%-70% reduction in HIV acquisition, but willingness to undergo VMMC has been lowest in Zambia compared to other countries in eastern and southern Africa. This manuscript describes training for "task-shifting" among local healthcare workers at Community Health Centers (CHCs) applying state of the art strategies (e.g., Training of Trainers, i.e., ToT, and Training of Facilitators, ToF) to provide novel clinical services. Staff at 96 CHCs from four Provinces in Zambia were sequentially trained to provide the Spear & Shield intervention. A total of 45,630 men (n = 23,236) and women (n = 22,394) volunteered to participate in the S&S intervention service program when offered in the CHCs. Group session (total = 5313 sessions; 2,736 men's and 2,582 women's sessions) were conducted over 4.5 years. Remarkably, both men and women's groups achieved 97% retention. Of these, 256 sessions recorded from 128 group leaders were assessed and scored for intervention fidelity; fidelity was 80%-90% among the majority of clinics. S&S program sustainment exceeded expectations among 85% of clinics (82/96) in all provinces across the duration of the study. Of note, attendance in the S&S program was encouraged by CHC staff, but no financial incentives were provided to those attending S&S. This study examined the effectiveness of the ToT/ToF model in dissemination of the S&S program, which proved to be feasible even in resource-limited settings. Benefits and challenges are discussed.

Abstract
Background Human papilloma virus (HPV) causes the most common sexually-transmitted infection especially among sexually-active individuals. The aim of study was to characterize the molecular characterization of HPV genotypes between 5176 female and male patients. Methods HPV DNA was extracted from genital swabs of the study participants and amplified by Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Genotyping was performed for 2525 cases using REALQUALITY RQ-Multi HPV Detection Kit for the identification of 14 high risk (HR) and 2 low risk (LR) HPV genotypes. Demographic figures were analyzed in correlation with virological data statistically. Results Out of 5176 cases from 7 laboratories, 2727 (53%) were positive for HPV, of which. 2372(87%) women and 355 (13%) men were HPV positive. However, in an intra-gender analysis, positive rate was higher in men (355/637, 55.7%) than in women (2372/4539, 52%; P value 0.007). HPV positive patients were younger than negative individuals. Positive rate was higher among age categories 20–40. Genotyping was performed for 2525 cases. Out of 1219 (48%) patients who contained single genotypes, 566 (22%) and 653 (26%) harboured HR and LR genotypes, respectively. In females and males, 1189 (54%) and 117 (37%) contained multiple genotypes. No substantial associations were found between different age categories and HR/LR and multiple genotypes distribution. Conclusion The prevalence of HPV infection in both genders was high. However, men had a higher rate of infection. These observations highlighted the necessity for a plan for targeted education to younger population in the society as well as application of infection control measures against HPV infection, especially in terms of general population mass HPV vaccination.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted agent worldwide. Early prevention with HPV vaccination is a safe and effective method against this disease. HPV vaccines provided more protection against several oncogenic HPV strains. Three prophylactic HPV vaccines have been approved to target high-risk HPV types and protect against HPV-related disorders. These existing vaccines are based on the recombinant DNA technology and purified L1 protein that is assembled to form HPV empty shells. The prophylactic vaccines are highly immunogenic and can induce production of specific neutralizing antibodies. However, therapeutic vaccines are different from these prophylactic vaccines. They induced cell-mediated immunity against transformed cells, instead of neutralizing antibodies. The second generation of prophylactic HPV vaccines, made from alternative viral components using cost-effective production strategies, is undergoing clinical evaluation. The purpose of this review is to provide a complete and up-to-date review of the types of HPV vaccines and the efficiency of each of them for readers.

Abstract
Non-therapeutic circumcision refers to the surgical removal of part or all of the foreskin, in healthy males, where there is no medical condition requiring surgery. The arguments for and against this practice in children have been debated for many years, with conflicting and conflicted evidence presented on both sides. Here, we explore the evidence behind the claimed benefits and risks from a medical and health-related perspective. We examine the number of circumcisions which would be required to achieve each purported benefit, and set that against the reported rates of short- and long-term complications. We conclude that non-therapeutic circumcision performed on otherwise healthy infants or children has little or no high-quality medical evidence to support its overall benefit. Moreover, it is associated with rare but avoidable harm and even occasional deaths. From the perspective of the individual boy, there is no medical justification for performing a circumcision prior to an age that he can assess the known risks and potential benefits, and choose to give or withhold informed consent himself. We feel that the evidence presented in this review is essential information for all parents and practitioners considering non-therapeutic circumcisions on otherwise healthy infants and children.

Abstract
Background and objective Menstrual irregularities and sociodemographic factors such as increasing age, Hispanic race, low socioeconomic strata, and low income status are known risk factors for cervical cancer. This study aimed to examine the prevalence of cervical cancer and its association with menstrual irregularities and other known risk factors based on a large nationwide inpatient sample database. Methods We used the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) database for the year 2017 and identified cases where cervical cancer and menstrual irregularities are the primary and co-occurring diagnoses using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) codes. Pearson's chi-square test, independent-sample t-test, and multiple logistic regression were used to generate the analysis. Results A total of 15,800 (0.19%) female weighted admissions between the age group of 18-55 years reported a diagnosis of cervical cancer. Patients with a diagnosis of menstrual irregularity had a statistically significant higher odds of association [odds ratio (OR): 1.582] for being diagnosed with cervical cancer. The odds of association were also high for the Hispanic race [OR: 1.280, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.128-1.453]. The odds of a diagnosis of cervical cancer increased with age, with the highest odds being reported for the age group of 46-55 years (95% CI: 12.107-21.171) and the population with lower median household income, with the highest odds being observed for the lowest interquartile range (95% CI: 1.418-1.892). Conclusion Based on our findings, a diagnosis of menstrual irregularity, the Hispanic race, increasing age, and lower household income are factors that significantly increased the odds of being diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Abstract
Neonatal circumcision is one of the most common elective surgical procedures in the United States and globally. This procedure, to remove part of the penile prepuce or foreskin, is done for a variety of personal, social, and medical reasons. There are several proposed benefits, risks, and ethical considerations to discuss with parents before the procedure. Three equally safe and effective methods are used for circumcision, and each uses unique equipment: the Gomco clamp, the Mogen clamp, and the Plastibell device. Choice of technique should be guided by operator training and comfort.

Abstract
It is crucial to understand the natural history of genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in men to prevent the increasing male HPV-related disease burden. We evaluated the associations between HPV infection and circumcision, smoking, and alcohol use after accounting for sexual behavior. The study included 2331 male personnel from Danish barracks. Penile swabs were tested for HPV DNA with a polymerase chain reaction assay, INNO-LiPA. All men completed a self-administered questionnaire providing data on potential risk factors for HPV such as lifestyle and sexual habits. Using multivariable logistic regression, associations between potential risk factors and HPV infection were estimated and expressed as odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Current cigarette smoking was associated with increased odds of HPV detection (OR = 1.2; 95% CI: 1.0-1.4), but we found no association with alcohol use in the analysis adjusted for sexual behavior. Circumcision reduced the odds of a prevalent HPV infection (OR = 0.7; 95% CI: 0.5-1.0) although not statistically significantly. Strong associations with lifetime and recent number of female sex partners were observed, but in contrast to uncircumcised men, increasing number of sex partners was not associated with higher HPV prevalence in circumcised men. In conclusion, smoking was associated with increased odds of penile HPV in men from the general population in Denmark, whereas circumcision seemed to reduce the risk. Moreover, our results indicated that there might be differences in the viral susceptibility between circumcised and uncircumcised men.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV) infections are sexually transmitted and most frequently associated with cervical cancer in women, but they are also a public health concern in men. There is rising evidence that HPV's role in other cancers, such as anal, vulva, vaginal, penis, head, and neck cancers. The present study aimed to understand the factors associated with HPV and cervical cancer knowledge levels of university students before and after an educational intervention. METHODS An Institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted from October to November 2018. A total of 638 study participants were selected using a simple random multistage sampling technique. A pretested questionnaire was used, consolidated the data, and analyzed with SPSS version 23. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify which variables were associated with the knowledge levels. RESULTS Six hundred thirty-eight study participants with a 100% response rate, and the mean age was 21.07 years (±SD, 1.96). Initial awareness of various broad categories was 4.09, and after the intervention, it increased to 23.4, with an average increase of 19.31 at 99% CI, p≤0.001 significance level. Before the educational intervention, students with <21 years of age [6.16, 95% CI: (2.21-17.18)] and ≤2.5 CGPA [3.44, 95% CI: (1.51-7.81)] were less knowledgeable over other counterparts. After educational intervention, the year of study was significantly associated with increased knowledge of overall and different broad categories of cervical cancer and HPV. Year of study, 1st-year students [AOR: 0.27, 95% CI: (0.14-0.51)] over third years and above are less knowledgeable. First-year students and CGPA ≤2.5 were less improved awareness over others. CONCLUSION The educational intervention improved more than fourfold increase knowledge on cervical cancer and HPV, and the year of study was a key factor associated with overall improvement. This study suggests that educational intervention effectively strengthens our understanding of the spread of HPV and cervical cancer disease burden.

Abstract
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most important risk factor for cervical cancer, although not the only one. The allelic polymorphism of enzymes acting on carcinogen metabolism has shown to influence the risk of both intraepithelial lesions and cervical carcinogenesis. Several studies found an association between GSTM1/GSTT1 null genotypes and risk of cancer. This research aimed to review studies addressing the relationship between GSTT1 and GSTM1 and HPV infection in women, with or without cervical pathologies. A database search was conducted in four databases - PubMed, LILACS, SciELO, and Virtual Health Library - using the following descriptors: Glutathione transferase, HPV, and Genetic polymorphism. In total, we found 319 studies. After screening titles and abstracts, 27 articles were selected for full-text read, among which 20 were excluded and 7 were included in the review. No study has exclusively approached the relationship between the virus and GSTM1/GSTT1 variants. However, studies investigating the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and cervical lesions or cancer found a probable relationship between them and infections with high-risk oncogenic subtypes. Although inconclusive, GSTT1 null alleles were more common in women with more aggressive HPV than GSTM1.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Male circumcision reduces the risk of human immunodeficiency virus infection in men. We assessed the effect of male circumcision on the incidence and natural history of human papillomavirus (HPV) in a randomized clinical trial in Kisumu, Kenya. METHODS Sexually active, 18- to 24-year-old men provided penile exfoliated cells for HPV DNA testing every 6 months for 2 years. HPV DNA was detected via GP5+/6+ PCR in glans/coronal sulcus and in shaft samples. HPV incidence and persistence were assessed by intent-to-treat analyses. RESULTS A total of 2,193 men participated (1,096 randomized to circumcision; 1,097 controls). HPV prevalence was 50% at baseline for both groups and dropped to 23.7% at 24 months in the circumcision group, and 41.0% in control group. Incident infection of any HPV type over 24 months was lower among men in the circumcision group than in the control group [HR = 0.61; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.52-0.72]. Clearance rate of any HPV infection over 24 months was higher in the circumcision group than in the control group (HR = 1.87; 95% CI, 1.49-2.34). Lower HPV point-prevalence, lower HPV incidence, and higher HPV clearance in the circumcision group were observed in glans but not in shaft samples. CONCLUSION Male circumcision reduced the risk of HPV acquisition and reinfection, and increased HPV clearance in the glans. IMPACT Providing voluntary, safe, and affordable male circumcision should help reduce HPV infections in men, and consequently, HPV-associated disease in their partners.

Abstract
Male circumcision (MC) is one of the oldest surgical procedures still completed today. Medical indications for MC include phimosis, recurrent balanitis, cosmesis, and infection prevention. In this review, we mainly focus on the role of MC in the prevention of human immunodeficiency virus, human papillomavirus, herpes simplex virus, gonorrhea, chlamydia, chancroid, and syphilis, and the subsequent impact of these genitourinary infections on male fertility. Overall, many compelling data support that MC may play an essential role in both genitourinary infection prevention and male fertility.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) has been shown to be more prevalent and persistent in female adolescents with HIV. However, data among male adolescents with perinatally acquired HIV (PHIV) are limited. SETTING We investigated the incidence and persistence of HR-HPV in anogenital compartments and associated factors among PHIV in comparison to HIV-uninfected (HU) male adolescents in Thailand. METHODS PHIV and HU males aged 12-24 years were enrolled. At baseline and 3 subsequent annual visits, specimens from the scrotum, penis, and anal area were obtained for HPV and other testing. RESULTS From June 2013 to October 2017, 49 PHIV and 47 HU male adolescents with a median age of 18 (interquartile range 17-20) years were enrolled. PHIV had higher incidence of any HR-HPV infection than HU adolescents {33.05 [95% confidence interval (CI): 20.82 to 52.46] vs. 15.73 [95% CI: 8.18 to 30.22] per 100 person-years, P = 0.04}. The persistence of any HR-HPV genotypes (detected at ≥2 annual visits) was not different by group (PHIV 27% vs. HU 23%, P = 0.75). Having ≥3 sex partners in past 6 months (adjusted prevalence ratio 2.39, 95% CI: 1.14 to 5.05; P = 0.02) and co-infection with other sexually transmitted infections (syphilis, chlamydia, and/or gonorrhea) were associated with persistent HR-HPV infection (adjusted prevalence ratio 6.21, 95% CI: 2.87 to 13.41; P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Thai PHIV male adolescents had a higher incidence of HR-HPV infection than those without HIV. Having multiple sex partners and co-infection with sexually transmitted infections was associated with persistent HR-HPV infection. These data demonstrate the need to prioritize PHIV male adolescents in routine and catch-up HPV vaccination programs.

Abstract
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has launched a strategic initiative for cervical cancer (CC) elimination which involves scaling up three interventions: human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, twice-lifetime HPV-screening screening and pre-cancer/cancer treatment by 2030. CC is challenging to control in countries with endemic human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), as women living with HIV (WLHIV) are at elevated risk of HPV infection, persistence and progression. This analysis estimated the impact of the elimination interventions on CC incidence and mortality but additionally considered more intensive screening for WLHIV, using Tanzania as an example. A dynamic HIV/HPV model was used to simulate the elimination strategy for vaccination, screening and pre-cancer/cancer treatment, with 3-yearly HPV-screening in WLHIV starting at age 25 years, in the context of sustained HIV control in Tanzania from 2020 to 2119. Without vaccination or HPV screening, CC incidence rates per 100 000 women are predicted to fall from 58.0 in 2020 to 41.6 (range: 39.1-44.7) in 2119, due to existing HIV control. HPV vaccination and twice-lifetime HPV-screening for the general population and 3-yearly screening for WLHIV, would reduce CC incidence to 1.3 (range: 1.3-2.5) by 2119, with elimination (<4/100 000) in 2076 (range: 2076-2092). CC mortality rates per 100 000 women are predicted to reach 1.1 (range: 1.1-2.1) with further reductions contingent on increased CC treatment access. Vaccination and 3-yearly HPV-screening for WLHIV is predicted to achieve elimination in the subgroup of WLHIV potentially as early as 2061 (range: 2061-2078), with a 2119 CC incidence rate of 1.7 (range: 1.7-3.3). Scaling-up vaccination and HPV-screening will substantially reduce CC incidence in Tanzania, with elimination predicted within a century. Three-yearly HPV-screening and HPV vaccination, at high coverage rates, would facilitate CC elimination among WLHIV, and thus accelerate elimination in the overall population.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Condyloma acuminata (CA) of the urethra presents a management challenge due to high recurrence rates, difficulty in accessing urethral lesions, risk of stricture formation, and potential for sexual dysfunction. While standard treatment modalities are acceptable for some external genital condyloma, they are not always feasible or appropriate for urethral lesions. OBJECTIVES We sought to review the literature on epidemiology, presentation, diagnosis and treatment of urothelial CA with a focus on surgical treatment options. METHODS We performed a comprehensive literature search of PubMed to identify all studies pertaining to urethral CA through November 2020. RESULTS Urethral CA is a relatively rare, but challenging disease to manage with a considerable amount of treatment side effects and downstream morbidity associated. In our comprehensive review we have found a wide selection of treatment modalities ranging from minimally invasive strategies to surgical reconstructive techniques. Proper follow-up to monitor for disease recurrence at the 3-4 month mark is appropriate and will determine subsequent treatment strategies as needed. Future studies and treatment directions include novel drug delivery models to optimize minimally invasive topical drug efficacy. CONCLUSION Treatment of urethral CA should be approached in a step-wise fashion. Medical therapy would be an appropriate option for asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic patients with small lesions who desire to avoid any interventions. If patient is symptomatic, has extensive disease burden or has failed medical therapy intervention should be considered with options including PDT, laser ablation or surgical excision with or without urethral reconstruction. Abstract
Penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC) is a rare cancer with orphan disease designation and a prevalence of 0.1-1 per 100,000 men in high-income countries, but it constitutes up to 10% of malignancies in men in some African, Asian and South American regions. Risk factors for PSCC include the absence of childhood circumcision, phimosis, chronic inflammation, poor penile hygiene, smoking, immunosuppression and infection with human papillomavirus (HPV). Several different subtypes of HPV-related and non-HPV-related penile cancers have been described, which also have different prognostic profiles. Localized disease can be effectively managed by topical therapy, surgery or radiotherapy. As PSCC is characterized by early lymphatic spread and imaging is inadequate for the detection of micrometastatic disease, correct and upfront surgical staging of the inguinal lymph nodes is crucial in disease management. Advanced stages of disease require multimodal management. Optimal sequencing of treatments and patient selection are still being investigated. Cisplatin-based chemotherapy regimens are the mainstay of systemic therapy for advanced PSCC, but they have poor and non-durable responses and high rates of toxic effects, indicating a need for the development of more effective and less toxic therapeutic options. Localized and advanced penile cancers and their treatment have profound physical and psychosexual effects on the quality of life of patients and survivors by altering sexual and urinary function and causing lymphoedema.

Abstract
Men who have sex with men (MSM) are at increased risk of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection because of their high-risk sexual behaviours. In this study, a meta-analytic approach was used to systematically analyse the literature to elucidate the prevalence and genotype distribution of anal, penile, oral and urethral HPV infection among MSM in the world. To carry out this systematic review, five electronic databases including Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Google Scholar were searched for relevant studies published from January 2012 to November 2019, and pertinent data were collected from the eligible articles. The pooled HPV prevalence was calculated for each anatomical region using a random-effect model weighted by the inverse variance method. The meta-analysis was performed using the "Metaprop" function in the R package Meta. The overall pooled prevalence of anal, penile, oral and urethral HPV infection among MSM were 78.4% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 75.6%-81.0%), 36.2% (95% CI: 29.1%-44.0%), 17.3% (95% CI: 13.6%-21.7%) and 15.4% (95% CI: 7.8%-27.9%), respectively. Stratified analyses showed that the prevalences of HPV were significantly higher in HIV-positive than HIV-negative MSM. The most frequent HPV high-risk type detected in the anus, penis and oral cavity was HPV-16 (19.9%, 4.9% and 3.1%, respectively). HPV infection is rising in MSM because of high-risk sexual behaviours, suggesting an increased future risk of developing HPV-related diseases and malignancies in this population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Male circumcision is linked to a reduction in the risk of HIV infection, sexually transmitted infections, penile inflammatory skin disorders, cancers, urinary tract infections, and other complications. We examined the extent to which the change in circumcision recommendation by the American Academy of Pediatrics in 1999 and Medicaid coverage status in states affected the total number of procedures performed. METHODS We used data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample for 1998-2011 collected annually by the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project. We examined data on all male births in the United States with Medicaid and private health insurance. We then categorized births into 4 groups: (1) births with newborn male circumcision procedure, (2) births with Medicaid or private health insurance, (3) births that occurred in states where Medicaid coverage for newborn male circumcision was removed, and (4) births that occurred before or after the policy change. We used multivariable logistic regression to estimate the adjusted odds of newborn male circumcision. RESULTS In the 10 states where a change in Medicaid policy occurred, circumcision frequency had a mean percentage-point decrease of 21.4% among Medicaid beneficiaries and 3.2% among private health insurance beneficiaries from before to after the policy change. In states where coverage was maintained, the change in circumcision frequency was negligible for Medicaid and private health insurance beneficiaries. These changes resulted in an estimated 163 456 potential circumcisions not performed. CONCLUSION Decreases in newborn male circumcision frequency correlated with the Medicaid policy change for the procedure. Efforts should be made to reduce barriers for cost-effective preventive procedures that promote health, such as newborn male circumcision.

Abstract
How the genomic landscape of a tumor shapes the formation of tertiary lymphoid structure (TLS) and how might TLS alter the clinical outcome or response to immunotherapy had not been systematically explored. Utilizing the genomic and transcriptome data of solid tumors on TCGA, we quantified TLS based on a previous identified 12-chemokine signature and evaluated its correlation with mutation/neoantigen burden, functional mutation of oncogenes and the presence of viral infection. Clinical data was integrated to decide the prognostic significance of TLS for different cancers after surgical treatment. Publicly available data (clinical and transcriptome data) of immunotherapy clinical trials involving melanoma and lung cancer were also collected to evaluate TLS’s association with therapeutic outcome. Mutation burden and predicted neoantigen counts were positively correlated with TLS scoring in multiple cancer types. Mutation in tumor suppressor genes (KEAP1, PBRM1) and genes involved in extrinsic apoptosis (CASP8), antigen-presentation (HLA-A, HLA-B), immune regulation (SMAD4) or DNA repair (BRCA1, BRCA2, TP53BP1) correlated with TLS alteration in multiple tumor types, indicating the interaction between mutation landscape and TLS formation. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection in gastric cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in Head and Neck squamous cell carcinoma were associated with increased TLS scoring. High TLS scoring predicted favorable prognosis in certain cancer after surgical treatment and improved response to immunotherapy in lung cancer and melanoma. Our findings unraveled the genomic properties associated with TLS formation in different solid tumors and highlighted the prognostic and predictive significance of TLS in surgical treatment and immunotherapy.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW This review updates progress in the human papillomavirus (HPV)-based revolution in cervical screening and vaccination predicted to eventually eliminate cervical cancer. RECENT FINDINGS HPV PCR, patented by the author in 1987, has recently begun to replace cytology for primary cervical screening. I highlight the findings from large randomized clinical trials that have brought about this change, and progress with implementation. Australia was the first to introduce a national, publicly-funded HPV PCR-based program of primary screening, on 1 December 2017. The United Kingdom is set to follow, as are other countries. The widespread preference of self-sampling by under-screened women in particular will increase the effectiveness of population screening when using HPV tests. Coupled with improved vaccination now that more effective (nonavalent) HPV vaccines are being introduced, recent modeling predicts that cervical cancer will be markedly reduced, or even eliminated, in coming decades. SUMMARY The recent or pending change to more accurate cervical screening by HPV detection using PCR in various countries means less frequent screening for women. Women with an aversion to having their sample collected by a physician can collect their sample themselves, either at the doctor's rooms or at home, the sample then being mailed to the testing laboratory.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In the Netherlands, bivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination was included in the National Immunization Program for 12-year-old girls in 2010 (vaccination coverage, 45%-60%). We examined possible changes in HPV seroprevalence in the HPV-unvaccinated Dutch population aged 0-89 years, comparing prevaccination data with data of approximately 6 years after implementation of national vaccination. METHODS Serum samples of men and women were used from two cross-sectional population-based serosurveillance studies performed before (2006-07, n = 6,384) and after (2016-17, n = 5,645) implementation of HPV vaccination in the Netherlands. Seven high-risk HPV-specific antibodies (HPV16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58) were tested in a virus-like particle-based multiplex immunoassay. RESULTS Type-specific HPV seroprevalence increased in women between 2006-07 and 2016-17. Also, a higher seroprevalence for at least one type in women >15 years was found in 2016-17 (31.7%) compared with 2006-07 (25.2%). In men, overall HPV seroprevalence remained similar; however, a lower seroprevalence was found for HPV16 in 2016-17 (7.5%) compared with 2006-07 (10.6%). CONCLUSIONS Our results indicate an increase in high-risk HPV types in women and a rather stable exposure in men. No clear effects of the strategy of girls-only vaccination were observed in men, probably because of the short time after introduction combined with suboptimal coverage. IMPACT No herd immunity has been observed yet in a population with suboptimal HPV vaccination coverage.

Abstract
While the human microbiota especially that of the gut, cervix, and vagina continue to receive great attention, very little is currently known about the penile (glans, coronal sulcus, foreskin, and shaft) microbiota. The best evidences to date for the potential role of the penile microbiota in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) acquisition have come from studies examining medical male circumcision. We are still at the foothills of identifying specific penile bacteria that could be associated with increased risk of STI/HIV acquisition. In this review, we summarize the available literature on the human penile microbiota and how it is impacted by circumcision. We also discuss the potential role of penile microbiota in STIs and its impact on cervicovaginal microbiota. Taken together, the findings from the penile microbiota studies coupled with observational studies on the effect of male circumcision for reduction of STI/HIV infection risk suggest that specific penile anaerobic bacteria such as Prevotella spp. potentially have a mechanistic role that increases the risk of genital infections and syndromes, including bacterial vaginosis in sexual partners. Although penile Corynebacterium and Staphylococcus have been associated with healthy cervicovaginal microbiota and have been found to increase following male circumcision, further investigations are warranted to ascertain the exact roles of these bacteria in the reproductive health of men and women. This review aims to address existing gaps and challenges and future prospects in the penile microbiota research. The information described here may have translational significance, thereby improving reproductive health and management of STI/HIV.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate and compare the surgical outcomes and complications of the modified circumcision using disposable circumcision suture device (device group) and the conventional dorsal slit circumcision (conventional group) in children. METHODS A total of 284 patients were randomized to either device group or conventional group. All patients were preoperatively assessed and evaluated at 4 weeks after surgery. The perioperative data and postoperative outcomes were compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS No statistical differences were observed in the average age and indications between the 2 groups preoperatively (P > .05). Compared with the conventional group, patients in the device group were shorter mean operative time, less blood loss, lower intraoperative and postoperative pain score, faster incision healing time and a higher satisfaction rate of penile cosmetic appearance (P < .01). Similarly, the incidences of complication were significantly lower in the device group than in the conventional group (4.3% vs 12.3%, P < .05). CONCLUSIONS The modified circumcision using disposable circumcision suture device is a simple, safe, faster, and effective procedure and may become the attractive alternative to the conventional technique for the children, with a relatively lower complication rate and better cosmetic results. With the improvement of disposable circumcision suture device, the modified circumcision using disposable circumcision suture device has the potential to be widely used in the world.

Abstract
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Prevention and Control Board is an independent multidisciplinary board of international experts that disseminates relevant information on HPV to a broad array of stakeholders and provides guidance on strategic, technical and policy issues in the implementation of HPV control programs. In response to drastic drop of vaccine coverage following the adverse event crisis in Carmen del Bolivar, Colombia, the HPV Prevention and Control Board in collaboration with the Colombian National Cancer Institute and Colombian League Against Cancer convened a meeting in Bogota, Columbia (November 2018). The goal of the meeting was to bring together national and international group of experts to report the disease burden, epidemiology and surveillance of HPV and HPV-related cancers, to discuss the successes and especially the challenges of HPV vaccination and screening in Colombia, as well as the lessons learnt from neighbouring countries. The meeting provided a platform to confer various stakeholder's perspectives, including the role of the Colombian healthcare system and to catalyse various parts of the public health community in Colombia into effective action. The conclusion of the meeting included following suggestions to strengthen HPV prevention and control: 1) Re-introducing school-based vaccine programs, 2) Integrating primary and secondary prevention programs, 3) Developing an innovative crisis communication plan targeting healthcare workers, teachers and general population, 4) Building trust through efficient and timely communication, 5) Building strong relationship with media to ensure a stable vaccination campaign support, and 6) Promoting empathy among healthcare professionals towards patients to build trust and communicate effectively.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Human papillomavirus infection (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections and can cause penile and anal cancer in men, and invasive cervical cancer in women. OBJECTIVE To evaulate the colonization of 32 HPV subtypes in the foreskin of boys. STUDY DESIGN A prospective analysis was made of the data of 62 healthy boys who had undergone standard circumcision. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) was isolated from the foreskin tissues, and the integrity of DNA was tested. The DNA of each patient was further assessed with real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the presence of 32 subtypes of HPV was explored. To confirm the results, melting curve analysis and agarose gel electrophoresis (AGE) were performed for all samples. Further analysis was made using LCD-array on six randomly selected samples to confirm the results together with negative and positive controls. RESULTS The mean age of the boys was 6.8 ± 2 years at the time of surgery. All positive controls and samples were positive, all negative controls were negative in the first HPV amplification assay. All positive controls had typical melting curve peaks, whereas all sample amplifications had non-specific, atypical melting curves not fitting with those of the positive controls. Two bands of expected sizes (124 and 405 bp) were only observed in positive controls, but not in negative controls or samples on AGE. The same results were observed on the 6 randomly selected samples using LCD-array. Consequently, all the foreskin samples were evaluated as negative for the 32 HPV types investigated in the study. DISCUSSION Literature shows a high prevalence of genital HPV in newborns, in early infancy, late adolescence and adulthood. However there is a lack of data in literature on the prevalence in early and late childhood. The negative results of HPV colonization on the foreskin in the current study may be attributed to the conservative and mostly monogamous nature of most family structures in Turkey. CONCLUSION The results of the present study have shown that foreskin tissue is not a natural reservoir for HPV and subclinical HPV infection is not likely in the absence of suspected sexual contact.

The past, present and future impact of HIV prevention and control on HPV and cervical disease in Tanzania: A modelling study. PLoS One 2020; 15:e0231388. Abstract
Background Women with HIV have an elevated risk of HPV infection, and eventually, cervical cancer. Tanzania has a high burden of both HIV and cervical cancer, with an HIV prevalence of 5.5% in women in 2018, and a cervical cancer incidence rate among the highest globally, at 59.1 per 100,000 per year, and an estimated 9,772 cervical cancers diagnosed in 2018. We aimed to quantify the impact that interventions intended to control HIV have had and will have on cervical cancer in Tanzania over a period from 1995 to 2070. Methods A deterministic transmission-dynamic compartment model of HIV and HPV infection and natural history was used to simulate the impact of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC), anti-retroviral therapy (ART), and targeted pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) on cervical cancer incidence and mortality from 1995–2070. Findings We estimate that VMMC has prevented 2,843 cervical cancer cases and 1,039 cervical cancer deaths from 1995–2020; by 2070 we predict that VMMC will have lowered cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates by 28% (55.11 cases per 100,000 women in 2070 without VMMC, compared to 39.93 with VMMC only) and 26% (37.31 deaths per 100,000 women in 2070 without VMMC compared to 27.72 with VMMC), respectively. We predict that ART will temporarily increase cervical cancer diagnoses and deaths, due to the removal of HIV death as a competing risk, but will ultimately further lower cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates by 7% (to 37.31 cases per 100,000 women in 2070) and 5% (to 26.44 deaths per 100,000 women in 2070), respectively, relative to a scenario with VMMC but no ART. A combination of ART and targeted PrEP use is anticipated to lower cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates to 35.82 and 25.35 cases and deaths, respectively, per 100,000 women in 2070. Conclusions HIV treatment and control measures in Tanzania will result in long-term reductions in cervical cancer incidence and mortality. Although, in the near term, the life-extending capability of ART will result in a temporary increase in cervical cancer rates, continued efforts towards HIV prevention will reduce cervical cancer incidence and mortality over the longer term. These findings are critical background to understanding the longer-term impact of achieving cervical cancer elimination targets in Tanzania.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To date, the microbiota of the human penis has been studied mostly in connection with circumcision, HIV risk and female partner bacterial vaginosis (BV). These studies have shown that male circumcision reduces penile anaerobic bacteria, that greater abundance of penile anaerobic bacteria is correlated with increased cytokine levels and greater risk of HIV infection, and that the penile microbiota is an important harbour for BV-associated bacteria. While circumcision has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of acquiring human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, the relationship of the penile microbiota with HPV is still unknown. In this study, we examined the penile microbiota of HPV-infected men as well as the impact of HIV status. RESULTS The penile skin microbiota of 238 men from Cape Town (South Africa) were profiled using Illumina sequencing of the V3-V4 hypervariable regions of the 16S rRNA gene. Corynebacterium and Prevotella were found to be the most abundant genera. Six distinct community state types (CSTs) were identified. CST-1, dominated by Corynebacterium, corresponded to less infections with high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) relative to CSTs 2-6. Men in CST-5 had greater relative abundances of Prevotella, Clostridiales, and Porphyromonas and a lower relative abundance of Corynebacterium. Moreover, they were significantly more likely to have HPV or HR-HPV infections than men in CST-1. Using a machine learning approach, we identified greater relative abundances of the anaerobic BV-associated bacteria (Prevotella, Peptinophilus, and Dialister) and lower relative abundance of Corynebacterium in HR-HPV-infected men compared to HR-HPV-uninfected men. No association was observed between HIV and CST, although the penile microbiota of HIV-infected men had greater relative abundances of Staphylococcus compared to HIV-uninfected men. CONCLUSIONS We found significant differences in the penile microbiota composition of men with and without HPV and HIV infections. HIV and HR-HPV infections were strongly associated with greater relative abundances of Staphylococcus and BV-associated bacterial taxa (notably Prevotella, Peptinophilus and Dialister), respectively. It is possible that these taxa could increase susceptibility to HIV and HR-HPV acquisition, in addition to creating conditions in which infections persist. Further longitudinal studies are required to establish causal relationships and to determine the extent of the effect.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the agent of the most common sexually transmitted diseases causing a variety of clinical manifestations ranging from warts to cancer. Oncogenic HPV infection is the major cause of cervical cancer and less frequently of penile cancers. Its presence in semen is widely known, but the effects on fertility are still controversial. We developed a new approach to evaluate virus localisation in the different semen components. We analysed also the specific genotype localisation and viral DNA quantity by qPCR. Results show that HPV DNA can be identified in every fraction of semen: spermatozoa, somatic cells and seminal plasma. Different samples can contain the HPV DNA in different fractions and several HPV genotypes can be found in the same fraction. Additionally, different fractions may contain multiple HPV genotypes in different relative quantity. We analysed the wholeness of HPV DNA in sperm cells by qPCR. In one sample more than half of viral genomes were defective, suggesting a possible recombination event. The new method allows to easily distinguish different sperm infections and to observe the possible effects on semen. The data support the proposed role of HPV in decreased fertility and prompt new possible consequences of the infection in semen.
