Abstract
This study aims to investigate whether generational differences in intergenerational caregiving patterns (caring for parents only, caring for grandchildren only, and caring for parents and grandchildren simultaneously) are associated with cognitive health disparities among the sandwich generation within four-generation families, drawing upon the theories of intergenerational solidarity and intergenerational stake. Moreover, this study seeks to identify mediators that help explain these disparities. A nationally representative sample of 8,065 respondents was drawn from the 2011 and 2018 waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. The findings reveal that the sandwich generation caring for grandchildren only, as well as those caring for grandchildren and parents simultaneously, exhibit better cognitive health. However, caregiving for parents only is not significantly related to their cognitive health. This study identifies the inability to reduce depressive symptoms as a mediator explaining the insignificant association between caregiving for parents only and the cognitive health of the sandwich generation. The findings underscore the importance of offering support to the sandwich generation within four-generation families to enhance their cognitive health. Moreover, it is imperative to distinguish between different intergenerational caregiving patterns based on generational differences among the sandwich generation, with a specific emphasis on allocating public resources aimed at promoting cognitive health for those engaged in caring for parents.

Abstract
Objectives: While prior research demonstrates the negative impacts of adult caregiving on women's employment, less research examines how women's employment changes when beginning a new caregiving role. Methods: Using data from eight waves of the Health and Retirement Study (2004-2018), I examine changes in women's employment when first transitioning into parental caregiving between the ages of 50-60, by analyzing changes in labor force participation, work hours, and hourly wages. Results: The transition into parental caregiving was not associated with women exiting the workforce or decreasing their work hours. However, caregivers did experience a decrease in inflation-adjusted hourly wages compared to non-caregivers, with the greatest wage penalties associated with high-intensity caregiving situations. Conclusion: Results demonstrate how parental caregiving may act as a shock to women's financial health at a critical career stage. This study highlights the less visible, but detrimental, financial consequences women experience when taking on a family caregiving role.

Abstract
Objective This study examines work and care patterns and their association with experienced well-being over the course of the day and tests a moderating effect of gender. Background Many family and unpaid caregivers to older adults face dual responsibilities of work and caregiving. Yet little is known about how working caregivers sequence responsibilities through the day and their implications for well-being. Method Sequence and cluster analysis is applied to nationally representative time diary data from working caregivers to older adults in the U.S. collected by the National Study of Caregiving (NSOC) (N=1,005). OLS regression is used to test the association with well-being and a moderating effect of gender. Results Among working caregivers, five clusters emerged, referred to as: Day Off, Care Between Late Shifts, Balancing Act, Care After Work, and Care After Overwork. Among working caregivers, experienced well-being was significantly lower among those in the Care Between Late Shifts and Care After Work clusters relative to those in the Day Off cluster. Gender did not moderate these findings. Conclusion The well-being of caregivers who split time between a limited number of hours of work and care is comparable to those who take a day off. However, among working caregivers balancing full-time work - whether day or night - with care presents a strain for both men and women. Implications Policies that target full-time workers who are balancing care for an older adult may help increase well-being.

Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the impact of demographic change on long-term, macro-level childcare and adult care transfers, accounting for the associated well-being effects of informal caregiving. We measure the impact of demographic change on non-monetary care exchanged between different groups by estimating matrices of time transfers by age and sex, and weighting the time flows by self-reported indicators of well-being, for activities related to childcare and adult care. The analysis employs cross-sectional data from the American Time Use Survey 2011-2013, and the Panel Study of Income Dynamics, Disability and Use of Time Module 2013 to produce the estimates of well-being associated with the two forms of care and their future projections. Both men and women experience more positive feelings when caring for children than when caring for adults. As a whole, caregiving is an overwhelmingly more positive experience than it is negative across both genders and care types. Yet women often report more tiredness and stress than men when providing childcare, while also experiencing more pain while performing adult care, as compared to childcare activities. Women of reproductive ages spend double the amount of care time associated with negative feelings, relative to men, most of which is spent on early childcare. We project a progressively widening gender gap in terms of positive feelings related to care in the coming decades. Future reductions in absolute caregiver well-being influenced by demographic changes at the population level may reduce workforce participation, productivity, and adversely impact psycho-physical condition of caregivers, if not offset by targeted policies.

Abstract
PURPOSE The study investigates the predictors of caregivers' experienced burden, stigma, and well-being, when looking after family members diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder. DESIGN AND METHODS This cross-sectional study included 168 caregivers; perceived burden, stigma, well-being, knowledge, illness perception, and medical variables were assessed. FINDINGS A number of correlates of burden, stigma, and well-being have been identified and are being discussed. The integrative predictive model showed that the caregiver's emotional representation of illness best predicts burden (β = 0.38, p < 0.001), stigma (β = 0.53, p < 0.001) and well-being (β = -0.36, p < 0.001). PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Our results can enable health professionals to tailor psychosocial interventions addressed to family members of individuals living with a psychiatric condition.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION How care-related time and emotional health over the day differ for those assisting older adults with and without dementia is unclear. METHODS Using 2134 time diaries from the National Study of Caregiving, we compared emotional health and care time for caregivers of older adults with and without dementia. RESULTS Caregivers to older adults with dementia experienced worse (higher scores) on a composite measure of negative emotional health (4.2 vs 3.3; P < .05) and provided more physical/medical care (33.7 vs 16.2 minutes; P < .05) and less transportation assistance (12.6 vs 24.8 minutes; P < .05) than other caregivers. In models, providing physical/medical care was associated with worse emotional health (β = 0.15; P < .01) and socializing with the care recipient was associated with worse emotional health when the recipient had dementia (β = 0.28; P < .01). DISCUSSION Findings highlight the opportunity for targeted interventions to address the emotional consequences of different types of care time in the context of dementia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES As life expectancy is prolonged, older people may face increased burdens related to supporting multi-generational family members. This study is aimed toward examining the effects of such an emerging type of informal care on the well-being of caregivers. METHODS Participants aged 50 and over from the Taiwan Longitudinal Study on Aging (1996-2007, n = 4,217) were analyzed. We categorized caregiving status according to different care recipients: 1) older adults only, 2) grandchildren only, 3) both older adults and grandchildren (dual caregiving), and 4) non-caregivers. Well-being was measured based on depressive symptoms and degree of life satisfaction. Generalized Estimation Equation models were used to examine the association between types of caregiving and the caregivers' state of well-being. RESULTS After adjusting for all covariates, caregivers of older adults had significantly more depressive symptoms and less life satisfaction than non-caregivers, especially when caregiving for adults with ADL problems. In contrast, caregivers of grandchildren were not significantly affect either depression or life satisfaction as compared with non-caregivers. Interestingly, caregiving for both older adults and grandchildren had no significant effect on depression but positively affected the degree of life satisfaction. CONCLUSION Our findings highlight that simultaneously taking care of both older adults and grandchildren can buffer negative feelings in caregivers or even improve their mental health.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Intergenerational support between aging parents and adult children is important to the well-being of both groups, especially during public health emergencies. However, few previous studies have examined the effects of daily support between parents and children on their well-being during public health emergencies. To fill in this gap, we examined the association between daily support and well-being in mothers and their adult children during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS Seventy-seven pairs of mothers (aged 44-80 years, M = 53.78, SD = 9.57) and adult children (aged 18-54 years, M = 26.61, SD = 9.46; 19% male) in mainland China participated in a 14-day daily diary study during a 14-day stay-at-home period. All of the participants reported the daily emotional and instrumental support they had given to and received from their mother/child each day for 14 consecutive days. Their daily positive affect and negative affect were also measured. RESULTS Receiving more support on a given day was associated with providing more support on that day, suggesting a daily reciprocity. This finding was consistent across mothers and children. A lower level of being under-benefitted on a day was associated with better daily well-being of children, but not that of mothers. Providing support, but not receiving support, was positively associated with mothers' daily well-being, whereas receiving support, but not providing support, was positively associated with children's daily well-being. DISCUSSION This study provides evidence of daily intergenerational support during a global public health emergency. The findings shed light on the importance of daily reciprocity and its implications for well-being.

Abstract
Purpose of the Study This study examined how women who combine long-term care employment with unpaid, informal caregiving roles for children (double-duty-child caregivers), older adults (double-duty-elder caregivers), and both children and older adults (triple-duty caregivers) differed from their workplace-only caregiving counterparts on workplace factors related to job retention (i.e., job satisfaction and turnover intentions) and performance (i.e., perceived obligation to work while sick and emotional exhaustion). The moderating effects of perceived spouse support were also examined. Design and Methods Regression analyses were conducted on survey data from 546 married, heterosexual women employed in U.S.-based nursing homes. Results Compared to workplace-only caregivers, double-duty-elder and triple-duty caregivers reported more emotional exhaustion. Double-duty-child caregivers reported lower turnover intentions and both double-and-triple-duty caregivers felt less obligated to work while sick when perceiving greater support from husbands. Implications Results indicate that double-and-triple-duty caregiving women's job retention and obligation to work while sick may depend on perceived spouse support, highlighting the important role husbands play in their wives' professional lives. Findings also lend support to the emerging literature on marriage-to-work positive spillover, and suggest that long-term care organizations should target marital relationships in family-friendly initiatives to retain and engage double-and-triple-duty caregiving employees.
