Abstract
Background Recent lifestyle changes have increased the prevalence of dyslipidemia in Korea. Young men are known to have a low awareness of dyslipidemia and a lack of motivation to maintain their weight. However, the association between weight change and dyslipidemia in young adults has not been thoroughly examined. Methods Data from the Armed Forces Medical Command Defense Medical Information System database were used. In this study, 15,068 soldiers who underwent private and corporal health examinations between May 2020 and April 2022 were included. The difference in weights between the two different health examinations was used to quantify weight change. Four components of the lipid profile were used to assess dyslipidemia during the corporal health examination. Results After adjusting for relevant covariates, weight gain was associated with increased risk of dyslipidemia (adjusted odds ratio [OR], 1.38 [95% confidence interval, CI, 1.15 to 1.64] for the 5% to 10% weight gain group; and OR, 2.02 [95% CI, 1.59 to 2.55] for the ≥10% weight gain group), whereas weight loss was associated with decreased risk (adjusted OR, 0.82 [95% CI, 0.68 to 0.98] for the 5% to 10% weight loss group; and OR, 0.38 [95% CI, 0.27 to 0.53] for the ≥10% weight loss group). In subgroup analysis based on the participants' baseline body mass index, smoking status, regular exercise habits, and hypertension status, there were no significant differences between the subgroups. Conclusion Weight change was associated with dyslipidemia in Korean male soldiers. The findings suggest that limiting weight gain in young adults by encouraging a healthy lifestyle may help prevent dyslipidemia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Treatment with tenofovir alafenamide fumarate (TAF) is associated with body weight gain. However, little or no information is available on this issue in Asian populations. METHODS This single-center retrospective study included Japanese people living with HIV (PLWH) who satisfied the following criteria; 1) switching from TDF to TAF after HIV-suppression, 2) follow-up for ≥2 years while on TDF and TAF, and 3) no switching of the third antiretroviral agent. Changes in annual body weight and lipid profiles were compared between the TDF and TAF periods. RESULTS Of 328 patients, dolutegravir (DTG) was used in 118 PLWH. Overall, no significant difference in weight gain was observed between TDF and TAF (0.76 vs. 0.9 kg/year, p = 0.331). In TAF-period, younger (<50 years of age) group showed significantly greater weight gain than older group (1.03 vs. 0.12 kg/year, p = 0.037). In DTG group, weight gain was larger in TAF-period (0.74 vs. 1.31 kg/year, p = 0.046), especially in younger subgroup (1.43 kg/year) compared with older one (-0.12 kg/year). Multivariate regression analysis showed that TAF was not associated with weight gain (estimates 0.201, p = 0.170) except for DTG group, whereas young age was associated with weight gain in all subjects (estimates -0.033/1 year older, p < 0.001), DTG, RAL, and EFV groups. CONCLUSION In Japanese PLWH, annual body weight change was comparable in TDF- and TAF-period, while TAF plus DTG correlated with weight gain. Since young age was a key determinant of weight change, careful interpretation is needed for TAF-associated weight gain.

Abstract
Research articles were reviewed to validate the estimated energy requirements (EERs) equations developed by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies (IOM). These equations are based on total energy expenditure (TEE) measured by the doubly labeled water (DLW) method. We subsequently aimed to provide the basis for the suitability to apply the IOM equations as EER equations for Koreans, and develop relevant equations for EER in the Dietary Reference Intake for Koreans (KDRI). Additionally, besides the EER(IOM) equations, other equations were examined for EER estimation. Research papers demonstrating the validation of the EER(IOM) equations based on TEE(DLW) were searched through PubMed (up to September 2019). Of the 637 potentially relevant articles identified, duplicates and unsuitable titles and abstracts were excluded. Furthermore, papers with irrelevant subject and inappropriate study design were also excluded. Finally, 11 papers were included in the review. Among the reviewed papers, 8 papers validated the application of the EER(IOM) equations for EER based on TEE(DLW). These included 3 studies for children (USA 1, Korea 2), 1 for adolescents (Portugal), 2 for adults (Korean), and 2 for the elderly (Korea, USA). EER(IOM) equations were found to be generally acceptable for determining EER by using the DLW method, except for Korean boys at 9–11 yrs (overestimated) and female athletes at 19–24 yrs (underestimated). Additionally, 5 papers include the validation of other EER equations, beside EER(IOM) for EER based on TEE(DLW). In Japanese dietary reference intake and recommended dietary allowance, EER equations are acceptable for determining EER based on TEE(DLW). The EER(IOM) equations is generally acceptable for determining EER using the DLW method in Koreans as well as several populations, although certain defined groups were found to be unfit for the estimation. Additionally, the concept of healthy body mass index of Koreans and physical activity levels need to be considered, thereby providing the basis for developing relevant equations of EER in KDRI.

Abstract
This study aimed to assess the effects of different anthropometric indices and their changes on the risk of incident dyslipidemia among the Chinese population. From the Guizhou population health cohort study, 2989 Chinese adults without dyslipidemia at baseline were followed up. Anthropometric parameters including waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and their changes in the latter two indices, and serum lipids were tested after at least 8 h fasting. Hazard ratio (HR), adjusted hazard ratio (aHR), and 95% confidential interval (CI) were calculated to estimate the association between anthropometric parameters and dyslipidemia risk using multivariate Cox regression. A total of 2089 (69.98%) new dyslipidemia cases were identified over an average follow-up of 7.0 years. Baseline BMI (aHR = 1.12, 95%CI 1.01, 1.23) and WHtR (aHR = 1.06, 95%CI 1.00, 1.13) were positively associated with higher risks of incident dyslipidemia but not WC. Each 5.0 kg/m2 increment of BMI or 0.05-unit increment of WHtR was significantly associated with 43% or 25% increased risk of incident dyslipidemia, respectively. The aHRs (95%CI) of incident dyslipidemia for subjects maintaining or developing general obesity were 2.19 (1.53, 3.12) or 1.46 (1.22, 1.75), and 1.54 (1.23, 1.82) or 1.30 (1.06, 1.60) for subjects maintaining or developing abdominal obesity, respectively. Linear trends for aHRs of BMI, WHtR change, and BMI change were observed (p for trend: 0.021, <0.001, <0.001, respectively). BMI, WHtR, and their changes were closely associated with the incidence of dyslipidemia for Chinese adults. Loss in BMI and WHtR had protective effects on incident dyslipidemia, whereas gain of BMI or WHtR increased the dyslipidemia risk. Interventions to control or reduce BMI and WHtR to the normal range are important for the early prevention of dyslipidemia, especially for participants aged 40 years or above, male participants, and urban residents with poor control of obesity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Worldwide, overweight is one of the main risk factors for Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs). In this scenario, Body Mass Index (BMI) is the main tool to assess nutritional status of the adult population. AIM To analyze the association between overweight and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and/or high blood pressure (HBP) during adulthood. SUBJECTS AND METHODS We used data of subjects aged between 30-64 years old from the United States National Survey of Health and Nutrition Examination (2015-2016). We calculated the risk of developing T2DM and/or HBP in adulthood using a Log-Binomial Regression model. We included sampling weights in our analysis and we adjusted it for confounding factors. RESULTS We evaluated a total of 2,666 individuals. Overweight affected around 38% of the sample when they were 25 years old and around 70% during the interview. We found 4 factors (overweight, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, and age) that were positively associated with the development of T2DM and/or HBP. Long-term overweight more than doubles the risk of developing these diseases [RR = 2.44; 95%CI: 1.92-3.09]. CONCLUSION The incidence of T2DM and/or HBP were positively associated with the overweight in adulthood. These results suggest that the prevention of overweight could decrease NCDs prevalence into adulthood.

Abstract
Background Little is known about the association between weight changes and adverse health outcomes among Chinese adults. Methods A total of 1715 Chinese adults, 45-60 years of age, have been recruited to participate in the Hefei Nutrition and Health Study started in 2012. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the association of weight changes since age 20 (loss ≥5.0 kg; maintain [±4.9 kg]; gain 5.0-9.9 kg; gain ≥10.0 kg) with cardiovascular risk factors. Results Men who gained 10.0 kg or more had increased risks of hypertension (odds ratios (OR) = 3.07; 95% CI: 1.98-4.76), impaired fasting glucose (OR = 1.74; 95% CI: 1.02-2.97), reduced high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels (OR = 2.77; 95% CI: 1.42-5.40) and elevated triglyceride levels (OR = 5.72; 95% CI: 2.94-11.12). Women who gained 10.0 kg or more had increased risks of hypertension, elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels and elevated triglycerides levels of 2.01(95% CI: 1.18-3.42), 3.40 (95% CI: 1.18-9.82) and 5.60 (95% CI: 1.59-19.61), respectively. Conclusion Weight gain during adulthood was associated with increased risks of high triglycerides, hypertension, impaired fasting glucose and risk of reduced HDL cholesterol in men. Furthermore, weight gain was a predictor of high-risk triglycerides, hypertension and elevated LDL cholesterol in women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Weight gain after 20 years of age is associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, the impact of weight gain on CKD might differ by current obesity status. We investigated the association of the combination of weight gain after 20 years of age and current obesity with CKD among adults in Japan. DESIGN A cross-sectional study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS We analysed data from 94 822 adults aged 40-64 years who had an annual health check-up in Japan from April 2013 to March 2014. PRIMARY OUTCOME MEASURE CKD was defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate <60 mL/min/1.73 m2 and/or proteinuria. RESULTS Both weight gain ≥10 kg after 20 years of age plus obesity (OR 2.21, 95% CI 2.07 to 2.36) and weight gain of ≥10 kg plus non-obesity (OR 1.31, 95% CI 1.21 to 1.42) significantly increased the OR for CKD when compared with weight gain <10 kg plus non-obesity in men. In women, weight gain ≥10 kg plus obesity (OR 2.04, 95% CI 1.84 to 2.25) and weight gain ≥10 kg plus non-obesity (OR 1.53, 95% CI 1.36 to 1.72) significantly increased the OR for CKD compared with weight gain <10 kg plus non-obesity. These results persisted even after adjustment for age, lifestyle factors, hypertension, dyslipidaemia and diabetes. CONCLUSIONS Weight gain ≥10 kg after 20 years of age was significantly associated with CKD in both obese and non-obese subjects. Moreover, the influence of weight gain ≥10 kg plus obesity on CKD was greater than that of weight gain ≥10 kg plus non-obesity on CKD. The present study results suggest that it is important to consider weight gain after maturity in both obese and non-obese subjects to prevent CKD among Japanese middle-aged adults.

Abstract
Objectives Human support can boost weight reduction in Internet‐based weight‐loss intervention. However, the most effective way to combine human support and the Internet for weight loss is unclear. This study aimed to examine the effects of two weight‐loss programs for male workers aged 18‐39 that combined different intensities of human support with website support compared to a delayed‐intervention group (control group; CG), in a randomized controlled trial. Methods Seventy‐one participants with overweight or obesity were allocated to one of three 12‐week treatment programs. The Standard Support Group (SSG) was provided support via website and two face‐to‐face group guidance sessions, at the beginning and at the end of the program along with monthly general emails throughout the program. The Enhanced Support Group (ESG) received four remote support sessions based on Supportive Accountability (SA) in addition to the SSG. The CG was provided the same program as SSG after the other two groups had completed the program. The primary outcome was body weight reduction. Results ESG participants reduced their weight significantly more than SSG and CG participants (P = 0.038, P < 0.001, respectively), and SSG participants reduced their weight significantly more than CG participants (P = 0.033). Conclusions The additional remote human support provided to the participants in the ESG was beneficial for weight loss in male workers. The low‐intensity program provided to the SSG was also effective. Further studies with more participants in diverse settings and with participants who are less interested in their health and weight management are needed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the expression of disheveled 2 (Dvl2) around the implant of hyperlipidemic rats at an early stage after the implantation. METHODS A total of 24 Wistar rats were divided equally into the experimental group fed with high-fat diet group and control group fed with a normal diet. After 8 weeks, the serum lipid levels were detected, and rats received implants in the femur metaphysis. Rats were sacrificed at 1, 3, and 5 days after implantation, and the bones around implants were obtained. Methylene blue-acid fuchsin staining was performed to observe the implant-bone interface. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was performed on runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), cathepsin K (CatK), and Dvl2. Dvl2 Western blot or immunoprecipitation, phosphorylation, and ubiquitination were also conducted. RESULTS In the experimental group, less osteoblasts, lower expression of Runx2 and Dvl2, and lower Dvl2 phosphorylation (P<0.05) than those of the control group were observed; furthermore, the CatK expression and Dvl2 ubiquitination were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Hyperlipidemia may suppress bone remodeling around the implant at an early stage by Dvl2 down-regulation, phosphorylation, and up-regulated ubiquitination.
