Abstract
PURPOSE The diagnostic delay of primary antibody deficiencies (PADs) is associated with increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Therefore, a screening algorithm was previously developed for the early detection of patients at risk of PAD in primary care. We aimed to clinically validate and optimize the PAD screening algorithm by applying it to a primary care database in the Netherlands. METHODS The algorithm was applied to a data set of 61,172 electronic health records (EHRs). Four hundred high-scoring EHRs were screened for exclusion criteria, and remaining patients were invited for serum immunoglobulin analysis and referred if clinically necessary. RESULTS Of the 104 patients eligible for inclusion, 16 were referred by their general practitioner for suspected PAD, of whom 10 had a PAD diagnosis. In patients selected by the screening algorithm and included for laboratory analysis, prevalence of PAD was ~ 1:10 versus 1:1700-1:25,000 in the general population. To optimize efficiency of the screening process, we refitted the algorithm with the subset of high-risk patients, which improved the area under the curve-receiver operating characteristics curve value to 0.80 (95% confidence interval 0.63-0.97). We propose a two-step screening process, first applying the original algorithm to distinguish high-risk from low-risk patients, then applying the optimized algorithm to select high-risk patients for serum immunoglobulin analysis. CONCLUSION Using the screening algorithm, we were able to identify 10 new PAD patients from a primary care population, thus reducing diagnostic delay. Future studies should address further validation in other populations and full cost-effectiveness analyses. REGISTRATION Clinicaltrials.gov record number NCT05310604, first submitted 25 March 2022.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary antibody deficiencies (PAD) are characterized by a heterogeneous clinical presentation and low prevalence, contributing to a median diagnostic delay of 3-10 years. This increases the risk of morbidity and mortality from undiagnosed PAD, which may be prevented with adequate therapy. To reduce the diagnostic delay of PAD, we developed a screening algorithm using primary care electronic health record (EHR) data to identify patients at risk of PAD. This screening algorithm can be used as an aid to notify general practitioners when further laboratory evaluation of immunoglobulins should be considered, thereby facilitating a timely diagnosis of PAD. METHODS Candidate components for the algorithm were based on a broad range of presenting signs and symptoms of PAD that are available in primary care EHRs. The decision on inclusion and weight of the components in the algorithm was based on the prevalence of these components among PAD patients and control groups, as well as clinical rationale. RESULTS We analyzed the primary care EHRs of 30 PAD patients, 26 primary care immunodeficiency patients and 58,223 control patients. The median diagnostic delay of PAD patients was 9.5 years. Several candidate components showed a clear difference in prevalence between PAD patients and controls, most notably the mean number of antibiotic prescriptions in the 4 years prior to diagnosis (5.14 vs. 0.48). The final algorithm included antibiotic prescriptions, diagnostic codes for respiratory tract and other infections, gastro-intestinal complaints, auto-immune symptoms, malignancies and lymphoproliferative symptoms, as well as laboratory values and visits to the general practitioner. CONCLUSIONS In this study, we developed a screening algorithm based on a broad range of presenting signs and symptoms of PAD, which is suitable to implement in primary care. It has the potential to considerably reduce diagnostic delay in PAD, and will be validated in a prospective study. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Heterogeneous clinical features of antibody deficiency (AD) may cause diagnostic delays. Calculated globulin (CG) (total protein minus albumin) has been proposed as a screening test to prevent morbidity due to diagnostic delays in AD. Our aim was to validate CG as a screening test for AD in Turkish adult patients by comparing its role with gamma globulin analysis in protein electrophoresis. METHODS Fifty serum samples were randomly collected for each level of CG from 15 to 25 g/L and tested for serum IgG, IgA, IgM levels and protein electrophoresis. Cut-off values predicting low IgG levels were calculated for electrophoretically determined gamma globulin and CG. Additionally, the data of 47 patients followed up in our clinic with a diagnosis of primary antibody deficiency (PAD) were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS A total of 550 adult patients were included in the study. The CG value predicting patients with IgG <6 g/L as a screening test was determined as <20 g/L with 83.8% sensitivity and 74.9% specificity. The gamma globulin value which predicted patients with the same IgG value of 89.0% sensitivity and 89.4% specificity was determined as <7 g/L. In the retrospective analysis, 37 of 47 patients (78.7%) with PAD had a CG value of <20 g/L at the time of the diagnosis and all 13 patients (100%) whose gamma globulin values were measured at the time of the diagnosis had a gamma globulin value of <7 g/L. CONCLUSION The determined CG cut-off value of <20 g/L can be used as a screening test in Turkish adult patients.

Abstract
Serum protein electrophoresis is a simple, reliable, and specific method used for separation of serum proteins. This study consisted to detect, at pediatric cases, pathological profiles of serum proteins by capillary electrophoresis and interpret any anomalies. The study was performed on 81 sera collected from pediatric subjects admitted at the Abderrahim Harouchi Children's Hospital in Casablanca. Study results revealed 72 specific pathological electrophoretic patterns for acute and chronic inflammatory response (35 children), hypogammaglobulinemia (3), polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia (23), hypoalbuminemia (5), agammaglobulinemia (1), and other medical conditions (2). No cases of alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency and nephrotic syndrome by electrophoresis were highlighted. Serum protein electrophoresis in children is recommended as a diagnostic technique for increasing the accuracy of the diagnosis in acute, subacute, and chronic inflammatory diseases, liver disease, and cases of immunodeficiency.

Abstract
Background Patients with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) have an increased incidence of pulmonary infections and require frequent follow-up computed tomography (CT) scans. Purpose To evaluate the diagnostic performance of 3-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with CVID. Material and Methods In this prospective study, 3-T MRI was performed in 20 patients with CVID. The patients were imaged with CT and MRI scans on the same day. The MRI protocol included a T2-weighted HASTE sequence (TR=1400 ms, TE=95 ms, slice thickness (ST)=3 mm), T2-weighted BLADE sequence (TR=5379 ms, TE=100 ms, ST=3 mm), and 3D VIBE sequence (TR=3.9 ms, TE=1.32 ms, ST=3 mm). Mediastinal and parenchymal changes were compared. A modified Bhalla scoring system was used in the evaluation of CT and MRI scans. Results A total of 17 (85%) patients had parenchymal abnormalities identified by CT or MRI. Similar findings were detected with CT and MRI in the assessment of the severity of bronchiectasis ( P=0.083), bronchial wall thickening ( P=0.157), and mucus plugging ( P=0.250). Consolidations were detected with both modalities in all patients. There was excellent concordance between the two modalities in the evaluation of nodules >5 mm (nodule size 5–10 mm, P=0.317; nodule size >10 mm, P=1). However, MRI failed to detect most of the small nodules (<5 mm). Conclusion 3-T MRI detected mediastinal and parenchymal alterations in patients with CVID and provided findings that correlated well with CT. Despite a few limitations, MRI is a well-suited radiation-free technique for patients requiring longitudinal imaging.

Abstract
Adaptive immune responses play critical roles in viral clearance and protection against re-infection, and SARS-CoV-2 is no exception. What is exceptional is the rapid characterization of the immune response to the virus performed by researchers during the first 20 months of the pandemic. This has given us a more detailed understanding of SARS-CoV-2 compared to many viruses that have been with us for a long time. Furthermore, effective COVID-19 vaccines were developed in record time, and their rollout worldwide is already making a significant difference, although major challenges remain in terms of equal access. The pandemic has engaged scientists and the public alike, and terms such as seroprevalence, neutralizing antibodies, antibody escape and vaccine certificates have become familiar to a broad community. Here, we review key findings concerning B cell and antibody (Ab) responses to SARS-CoV-2, focusing on non-severe cases and anti-spike (S) Ab responses in particular, the latter being central to protective immunity induced by infection or vaccination. The emergence of viral variants that have acquired mutations in S acutely highlights the need for continued characterization of both emerging variants and Ab responses against these during the evolving pathogen-immune system arms race.

Abstract
Polyclonal immunoglobulin (Ig) preparations have been used for several decades for treatment of primary and secondary immunodeficiencies and for treatment of some infections and intoxications. This has demonstrated the importance of Igs, also called antibodies (Abs) for prevention and elimination of infections. Moreover, elucidation of the structure and functions of Abs has suggested that they might be useful for targeted treatment of several diseases, including cancers and autoimmune diseases. The development of technologies for production of specific monoclonal Abs (MAbs) in large amounts has led to the production of highly effective therapeutic antibodies (TAbs), a collective term for MAbs (MAbs) with demonstrated clinical efficacy in one or more diseases. The number of approved TAbs is currently around hundred, and an even larger number is under development, including several engineered and modified Ab formats. The use of TAbs has provided new treatment options for many severe diseases, but prediction of clinical effect is difficult, and many patients eventually lose effect, possibly due to development of Abs to the TAbs or to other reasons. The therapeutic efficacy of TAbs can be ascribed to one or more effects, including binding and neutralization of targets, direct cytotoxicity, Ab-dependent complement-dependent cytotoxicity, Ab-dependent cellular cytotoxicity or others. The therapeutic options for TAbs have been expanded by development of several new formats of TAbs, including bispecific Abs, single domain Abs, TAb-drug conjugates, and the use of TAbs for targeted activation of immune cells. Most promisingly, current research and development can be expected to increase the number of clinical conditions, which may benefit from TAbs.

Abstract
Background Patients with antibody deficiency may experience exceptionally long diagnostic delays, increasing the risk of life-threatening infections, end-organ damage, mortality, and health costs. Objective This study aimed to analyze serum protein electrophoresis and verify the correlation between calculated globulin (CG, total protein minus albumin levels) or electrophoretically determined serum gamma globulin fraction (Gamma) with IgG levels in children and adolescents under 18 years old (yo). Methods We analyzed serum protein electrophoresis (GC or Gamma) and IgG levels from 1215 children and adolescents under 18 yo, classified into 5 age groups. We verified the correlation between CG or Gamma with serum IgG levels. Results Serum IgG levels varied according to age groups (from 4.3 ± 2.3 g/l in children under 6 months old to 11.4 ± 3.2 g/l in adolescents in the 10-<18 yo group). CG sensitivity and specificity to detect IgG below the reference range for all patients were 93.1% and 81.8%, respectively, and varied according to age group. Gamma sensitivity and specificity for all patients were 100% and 87.8%, respectively, and varied according to age group as well. We found serum IgG levels below the age reference level in 29 patients (2.4% of the cases) using CG or Gamma levels. Conclusion Both CG and Gamma levels may be of utility as a screening tool for earlier diagnosis of antibody deficiency in children and adolescents under 18 yo.

Abstract
Primary antibody deficiencies (PADs) are the most common types of inherited primary immunodeficiency diseases (PIDs) presenting at any age, with a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations including susceptibility to infections, autoimmunity and cancer. Antibodies are produced by B cells, and consequently, genetic defects affecting B cell development, activation, differentiation or antibody secretion can all lead to PADs. Whole exome and whole genome sequencing approaches have helped identify genetic defects that are involved in the pathogenesis of PADs. Here, we summarize the clinical manifestations, causal genes, disease mechanisms and clinical treatments of different types of PADs.

This article presents the general pediatrician with a broad overview of the rapidly expanding spectrum of primary immune deficiencies, which are diseases that go beyond the classic description of increased susceptibility to infections and also those with predisposition to autoimmunity, malignancy, and immune dysregulation. Readers are guided through the three proposed categories under the umbrella term of primary immune deficiencies. These categories are lack of function, inappropriate surveillance and clearance, and inadequate control immune dysregulation. Abstract
BACKGROUND Predominantly antibody deficiencies (PADs) are the most prevalent primary immunodeficiencies, but their B-cell defects and underlying genetic alterations remain largely unknown. OBJECTIVE We investigated patients with PADs for the distribution of 41 blood B-cell and plasma cell (PC) subsets, including subsets defined by expression of distinct immunoglobulin heavy chain subclasses. METHODS Blood samples from 139 patients with PADs, 61 patients with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), 68 patients with selective IgA deficiency (IgAdef), 10 patients with IgG subclass deficiency with IgA deficiency, and 223 age-matched control subjects were studied by using flow cytometry with EuroFlow immunoglobulin isotype staining. Patients were classified according to their B-cell and PC immune profile, and the obtained patient clusters were correlated with clinical manifestations of PADs. RESULTS Decreased counts of blood PCs, memory B cells (MBCs), or both expressing distinct IgA and IgG subclasses were identified in all patients with PADs. In patients with IgAdef, B-cell defects were mainly restricted to surface membrane (sm)IgA+ PCs and MBCs, with 2 clear subgroups showing strongly decreased numbers of smIgA+ PCs with mild versus severe smIgA+ MBC defects and higher frequencies of nonrespiratory tract infections, autoimmunity, and affected family members. Patients with IgG subclass deficiency with IgA deficiency and those with CVID showed defects in both smIgA+ and smIgG+ MBCs and PCs. Reduced numbers of switched PCs were systematically found in patients with CVID (absent in 98%), with 6 different defective MBC (and clinical) profiles: (1) profound decrease in MBC numbers; (2) defective CD27+ MBCs with almost normal IgG3+ MBCs; (3) absence of switched MBCs; and (4) presence of both unswitched and switched MBCs without and; (5) with IgG2+ MBCs; and (6) with IgA1+ MBCs. CONCLUSION Distinct PAD defective B-cell patterns were identified that are associated with unique clinical profiles.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a primary humoral immunodeficiency characterised by reduced serum levels of immunoglobulins, recurrent infections, autoimmune phenomena and lymphoproliferative disorders. Gastrointestinal symptoms are very common in these patients and a coeliac-like villous atrophy was described in some of them. Since mortality in CVID is much higher than in the general population, our aim was to evaluate mortality rates and clinical predictors of survival in patients with both CVID and duodenal villous atrophy. PATIENTS AND METHODS Sex, date of diagnosis of villous atrophy, HLA genomic typing, date of death/last follow-up, type of complication were retrospectively collected from medical files. Univariate analysis for each predictor was conducted and Kaplan-Meier curves were generated to evaluate survival. RESULTS Twenty-three patients were enrolled (9 females, mean age at diagnosis of villous atrophy 38 ± 13 years) and 8 of them died after a median time of 96 months (25th-75th 60-120 months) corresponding to a mortality rate of 3.9 per 100 person-years (95% CI 1.9-7.7). Mortality was higher in men compared to women (60 vs. 11/1000 person-years), although not statistically significant. Causes of death included onco-haematological disorders and infections. CONCLUSIONS Although based on a small cohort, our results confirm that patients with CVID and villous atrophy are burdened by a very high mortality mainly due to onco-immunological disorders and infections. Strict follow-up is required in these patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The ability of anti-cytokine antibodies to play a disease-causing role in the pathogenesis of immunodeficiencies is widely accepted. The aim of this study was to investigate whether autoantibodies against BAFF (important B cell survival signal), APRIL (important plasma cell survival signal), or Interleukin-21 (important cytokine for immunoglobulin class switch) present an alternative mechanism for the development of the following primary antibody deficiencies (PADs): common variable immune deficiency (CVID) or selective IgA deficiency (sIgAD). RESULTS Two hundred thirty-two sera from patients with PADs were screened for autoantibodies against cytokines by ELISA. Statistical data analysis yielded a significant difference (p < 0.01) between the healthy donor sera and both PAD cohorts. The analysis was deepened by subdividing the patient collective into groups with distinct B cell phenotypes but no significant differences were found. For selected sera with notable high ELISA-read outs functional analysis ensued. Anti-BAFF and anti-APRIL antibodies were further examined by a B cell survival assay, whilst the functional relevance of putative anti-IL-21 autoantibodies was investigated by means of a STAT3 phosphorylation assay. However, the results of these experiments revealed no discernible functional effect. CONCLUSION Whilst statistical analysis of ELISA results showed significant differences between patients and healthy controls, in our set of patients functional tests yielded no evidence for an involvement of autoantibodies against BAFF, APRIL, or IL-21 in the pathogenesis of CVID or sIgAD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Issues of fertility and pregnancy place an extra burden on females with primary immunodeficiencies. Patients lack reliable information and providers lack guidelines to counsel patients on these anxiety-provoking matters. OBJECTIVE To collate concerns and experiences related to fertility and pregnancy from females with humoral immune deficiencies. METHODS We conducted an internet-based survey of female patients who self-identified as having a diagnosis of primary humoral immune deficiency. RESULTS Responses from 490 women with common variable immune deficiency and 100 with hypogammaglobulinemia were evaluated. The reported fertility measure (% of women who had had a birth) was statistically significantly lower as compared to the general US population (70 % vs. 85 %, p < 0.0001) whereas the rates of spontaneous pregnancy loss were comparable. This group reported a total of 966 pregnancies; 72 % resulted in a live birth. A majority of the pregnancies progressed with no incident and with continuation of their IgG replacement therapy; 23 % reported an increase in IgG dosing during pregnancy. Only 15 % of those reporting a first pregnancy indicated that they had been diagnosed with immune deficiency prior to their first pregnancy; these women expressed concern regarding the effect of immune deficiency on their fertility, pregnancy and decision to have children. CONCLUSION With inherent limitations of self-reported responses to surveys, females with humoral immune deficiencies reported relatively good rates of fertility and pregnancies ending in live births. Results of the survey will serve as peer support for patients and inform counseling guidelines for providers.

Abstract
Primary antibody deficiencies present clinically as reduced or absent plasma antibodies without another identified disorder that could explain the low immunoglobulin levels. Bone marrow-liver-thymus (BLT) humanized mice also exhibit primary antibody deficiency or hypogammaglobulinemia. Comprehensive characterization of B cell development and differentiation in BLT mice revealed other key parallels with primary immunodeficiency patients. We found that B cell ontogeny was normal in the bone marrow of BLT mice but observed an absence of switched memory B cells in the periphery. PC-KLH immunizations led to the presence of switched memory B cells in immunized BLT mice although plasma cells producing PC- or KLH- specific IgG were not detected in tissues. Overall, we have identified the following parallels between the humoral immune systems of primary antibody deficiency patients and those in BLT mice that make this in vivo model a robust and translational experimental platform for gaining a greater understanding of this heterogeneous array of humoral immunodeficiency disorders in humans: (i) hypogammaglobulinemia; (ii) normal B cell ontogeny in bone marrow; and (iii) poor antigen-specific IgG response to immunization. Furthermore, the development of strategies to overcome these humoral immune aberrations in BLT mice may in turn provide insights into the pathogenesis of some primary antibody deficiency patients which could lead to novel clinical interventions for improved humoral immune function.

Abstract
Primary immunodeficiency disease (PID) has traditionally been viewed as a group of illnesses seen in the paediatric age group. New advances in diagnosis and treatment have led to an increase in the number of elderly PID patients. However, there is lack of research evidence on which to base clinical management in this group of patients. Management decisions often have to be based therefore on extrapolations from other patient cohorts or from younger patients. Data from the European Society for Immunodeficiencies demonstrates that the vast majority of elderly patients suffer from predominantly antibody deficiency syndromes. We review the management of PID disease in the elderly, with a focus on antibody deficiency disease.

Abstract
B-cell activating factor (BAFF) has been used as a therapeutic target. To develop BAFF-specific small molecular inhibitors, it is necessary to know the key amino acid in the BAFF binding with its receptor. The key binding amino acid of BAFF interacting with its receptor TACI (trans-membrane activator and calcium modulator and cyclophilin ligand interactor) was analyzed based on the computer-guided molecular modeling method. According to theoretical prediction, a series of key amino acid mutants of BAFF, including M204 (Lys(204) to Ala), M208 (Met(208) to Ala), M209 (Gly(209) to Ala), M210 (His(210) to Ala), M234 (Gln(234) to Ala), M236 (Met(236) to Ala), and M237 (Pro(237) to Ala) were designed and evaluated with biological experiments. The results show that M208, M209, M236, and M237 of BAFF were the key amino acids and in accord with the theoretical results. The results highlight clues for the further development of BAFF-specific small molecular inhibitors.

Abstract
Primary immunodeficiency diseases (PIDD) are associated with significant morbidity and mortality and result in a significant public health burden. This is in part due to the lack of appropriate diagnosis and treatment of these patients. It is critical that governments become aware of this problem and provide necessary resources to reduce this impact on health care systems. Leading physicians in their respective countries must be supported by their own governments in order to implement tools and provide education and thus improve the diagnosis and treatment of PIDD. The Latin American Society of Primary Immunodeficiencies (LASID) has initiated a large number of activities aimed at achieving these goals, including the establishment of a PIDD registry, development of educational programmes and guidelines, and the introduction of a PIDD fellowship programme. These initiatives are positively impacting the identification and appropriate treatment of patients with PIDD in Latin America. Nevertheless, much remains to be done to ensure that every person with PIDD receives proper therapy.

Abstract
Members of the European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID) and other colleagues have updated the multi-stage expert-opinion-based diagnostic protocol for non-immunologists incorporating newly defined primary immunodeficiency diseases (PIDs). The protocol presented here aims to increase the awareness of PIDs among doctors working in different fields. Prompt identification of PID is important for prognosis, but this may not be an easy task. The protocol therefore starts from the clinical presentation of the patient. Because PIDs may present at all ages, this protocol is aimed at both adult and paediatric physicians. The multi-stage design allows cost-effective screening for PID of the large number of potential cases in the early phases, with more expensive tests reserved for definitive classification in collaboration with a specialist in the field of immunodeficiency at a later stage.

Abstract
Background Patients with primary immunodeficiency (PID) often suffer from frequent respiratory tract infections. Despite standard treatment with IgG-substitution and antibiotics many patients do not improve significantly. Therefore, we hypothesized that additional immune deficits may be present among these patients. Objective To investigate if PID patients exhibit impaired production of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) in nasal fluid and a possible link between AMP-expression and Th17-cells. Methods Nasal fluid, nasopharyngeal swabs and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were collected from patients and healthy controls. AMP levels were measured in nasal fluid by Western blotting. Nasal swabs were cultured for bacteria. PBMCs were stimulated with antigen and the supernatants were assessed for IL-17A release by ELISA. Results In healthy controls and most patients, AMP levels in nasal fluid were increased in response to pathogenic bacteria. However, this increase was absent in patients with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) and Hyper-IgE syndrome (HIES), despite the presence of pathogenic bacteria. Furthermore, stimulation of PBMCs revealed that both HIES and CVID patients exhibited an impaired production of IL-17A. Conclusion CVID and HIES patients appear to have a dysregulated AMP response to pathogenic bacteria in the upper respiratory tract, which could be linked to an aberrant Th17 cell response.

Abstract
Human inherited antibody deficiency disorders are generally caused by mutations in genes involved in the pathways regulating B-cell class switch recombination; DNA damage repair; and B-cell development, differentiation, and survival. Sequencing a large set of candidate genes involved in these pathways appears to be a highly efficient way to identify novel mutations. Herein we review several high-throughput sequencing approaches as well as recent improvements in target gene enrichment technologies. Systematic improvement of enrichment and sequencing methods, along with refinement of the experimental process is necessary to develop a cost-effective high-throughput resequencing assay for a large cohort of patient samples. The Hyper-IgM/CVID chip is one example of a resequencing platform that may be used to identify known or novel mutations in patents with various types of inherited antibody deficiency.

Abstract
B cell activating factor (BAFF) is a crucial survival factor for transitional and mature B cells, and is a promising therapeutic target for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). A BAFF inhibitor, belimumab, is the first new drug in 50 years to be approved for the treatment of SLE. However, the mechanism of action of this drug is not entirely clear. In this review we will focus on the role of the BAFF-APRIL signaling pathway in the selection of autoreactive B cells, and discuss whether altered selection is the mechanism for the therapeutic efficacy of BAFF inhibition in SLE.

Abstract
BAFF and APRIL are TNF-like cytokines that support survival and differentiation of B cells. The early appreciation that overexpression of BAFF leads to B cell expansion and a lupus-like syndrome in mice, and the demonstration that BAFF inhibition delays lupus onset in spontaneous mouse models of SLE and other autoimmune diseases has rapidly led to the development of strategies for inhibiting both BAFF and APRIL. The commercialization of this new class of drugs has proceeded in parallel with the continuing elucidation of the biology of the cytokines and their receptors. Recent studies have uncovered a role for BAFF in enhancing both innate and adaptive immune responses and in amplifying aberrant pathways that arise during inflammation. Two phase III studies of an anti-BAFF antibody have yielded positive, although modest, results in SLE and alternate inhibitors are being tested in a variety of autoimmune diseases in which BAFF may play a pathogenic role.
