Abstract
Casuarina equisetifolia (C. equisetifolia) is an economically important forest tree species, often cultivated in continuous monoculture as a coastal protection forest. Continuous planting has gradually affected growth and severely restricted the sustainable development of the C. equisetifolia industry. In this study, we analyzed the effects of continuous planting on C. equisetifolia growth and explored the rhizosphere soil microecological mechanism from a metagenomic perspective. The results showed that continuous planting resulted in dwarfing, shorter root length, and reduced C. equisetifolia seedling root system. Metagenomics analysis showed that 10 key characteristic microorganisms, mainly Actinoallomurus, Actinomadura, and Mycobacterium, were responsible for continuously planted C. equisetifolia trees. Quantitative analysis showed that the number of microorganisms in these three genera decreased significantly with the increase of continuous planting. Gene function analysis showed that continuous planting led to the weakening of the environmental information processing-signal transduction ability of soil characteristic microorganisms, and the decrease of C. equisetifolia trees against stress. Reduced capacity for metabolism, genetic information processing-replication and repair resulted in reduced microbial propagation and reduced microbial quantity in the rhizosphere soil of C. equisetifolia trees. Secondly, amino acid metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, glycan biosynthesis and metabolism, lipid metabolism, metabolism of cofactors and vitamins were all significantly reduced, resulting in a decrease in the ability of the soil to synthesize and metabolize carbon and nitrogen. These reduced capacities further led to reduced soil microbial quantity, microbial carbon and nitrogen, microbial respiration intensity, reduced soil enzyme nutrient cycling and resistance-related enzyme activities, a significant reduction in available nutrient content of rhizosphere soils, a reduction in the ion exchange capacity, and an impediment to C. equisetifolia growth. This study provides an important basis for the management of continuously planted C. equisetifolia plantations.

Abstract
The adsorption-desorption and degradation characteristics of two widely applied fungicides, imazalil and penflufen, and the responses of soil bacterial diversity, structure, function, and interaction after long-term exposure were systemically studied in eight different soils. The adsorption ability of imazalil in soil was significantly higher than that of penflufen. Both imazalil and penflufen degraded slowly in most soils following the order: imazalil > penflufen, with soil pH, silt, and clay content being the potential major influencing factors. Both imazalil and penflufen obviously inhibited the soil microbial functional diversity, altered the soil bacterial community and decreased its diversity. Although exposure to low and high concentrations of imazalil and penflufen strengthened the interactions among the soil bacterial communities, the functional diversity of the co-occurrence network tended to be simple at high concentrations, especially in penflufen treatment. Both imazalil and penflufen markedly disturbed soil nitrogen cycling, especially penflufen seriously inhibited most nitrogen cycling processes, such as nitrogen fixation and nitrification. Meanwhile, sixteen and ten potential degradative bacteria of imazalil and penflufen, respectively, were found in soils, including Kaistobacter and Lysobacter. Collectively, the long-term application of imazalil and penflufen could cause residual accumulation in soils and subsequently result in serious negative effects on soil ecology.

Abstract
Chloroacetamide herbicides are widely used around the world due to their high efficiency, resulting in increasing levels of their residues in the environment. Residual chloroacetamides and their metabolites have been frequently detected in soil, water and organisms and shown to have toxic effects on non-target organisms, posing a serious threat to the ecosystem. As such, rapid and efficient techniques that eliminate chloroacetamide residues from the ecosystem are urgently needed. Degradation of these herbicides in the environment mainly occurs through microbial metabolism. Microbial strains such as Acinetobacter baumannii DT, Bacillus altitudinis A16, Pseudomonas aeruginosa JD115, Sphingobium baderi DE-13, Catellibacterium caeni DCA-1, Stenotrophomonas acidaminiphila JS-1, Klebsiella variicola B2, and Paecilomyces marquandii can effectively degrade chloroacetamide herbicides. The degradation pathway of chloroacetamide herbicides in aerobic bacteria is mainly initiated by an N/C-dealkylation reaction, followed by aromatic ring hydroxylation and cleavage processes, whereas dechlorination is the initial reaction in anaerobic bacteria. The molecular mechanisms associated with bacterial degradation of chloroacetamide herbicides have been explored, with amidase, hydrolase, reductase, ferredoxin and cytochrome P450 oxygenase currently known to play a pivotal role in the catabolic pathways of chloroacetamides. The fungal pathway for the degradation of these herbicides is more complex with more diversified products, and the degradation enzymes and genes involved remain to be discovered. However, there are few reviews specifically summarizing the microbial degrading species and biochemical mechanisms of chloroacetamide herbicides. Here, we briefly summarize the latest progress resulting from research on microbial strain resources and enzymes involved in degradation of these herbicides and their corresponding genes. Furthermore, we explore the biochemical pathways and molecular mechanisms for biodegradation of chloroacetamide herbicides in depth, thereby providing a reference for further research on the bioremediation of such herbicides.

Abstract
The pretilachlor has been widely used worldwide and has contaminated the environment for many years. The environmental fate of pretilachlor and its residues removal from the contaminated environment have attracted great concern. Reportedly, pretilachlor could partly be transformed to HECDEPA by Rhodococcus sp. B2. However, the effects of pretilachlor on soil bacterial communities and its complete metabolic pathway remain unknown. Herein, we investigated the mechanism of driving synergistic degradation of pretilachlor by strain B2 in the soil. The results revealed that pretilachlor showed a negative effect on bacterial communities and caused significant variations in the community structure. Strain B2 showed the ability to remediate the pretilachlor-contaminated soils and network analysis revealed that it may drive the enrichment of potential pretilachlor-degrading bacteria from the soil. The soil pretilachlor degradation may be facilitated by the members of the keystone families Comamonadaceae, Caulobacteraceae, Rhodospirillaceae, Chitinophagaceae, and Sphingomonadaceae. Meanwhile, Sphingomonas sp. M6, a member of the Sphingomonadaceae family, has been isolated from the strain B2 inoculation sample soil. The co-culture, comprising strain M6 and B2, could synergistic degrade pretilachlor within 30 h, which is the highest degradation rate. Strain M6 could completely degrade the HECDEPA via CDEPA and DEA. In the soil, a comparable pretilachlor degradation pathway may exist. This study suggested that strain B2 had the potential to drive the remediation of pretilachlor-contaminated soils.

Biodegradation of Alachlor by a Newly Isolated Bacterium: Degradation Pathway and Product Analysis. Processes (Basel) 2022. Abstract
Alachlor [2-chloro-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)-N-(methoxymethyl]acetamide] is a chloroacetanilide herbicide and has been widely used as a selective pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicide to control weeds and grass. Due to its wide usage, direct application on the ground, high solubility in water, and moderate persistence, alachlor and its metabolites have been detected in various environments. Therefore, there is an increasing concern about the environmental fate of alachlor and its metabolites. Microbial biodegradation is a main method of removal of alachlor in the natural environment. In this study, we isolated new alachlor degrading bacterium and proposed a novel alachlor-degrading pathway. The alachlor-degrading bacterial strain, GC-A6, was identified as Acinetobacter sp. using 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. Acinetobacter sp. GC-A6 utilized alachlor as its sole carbon source and degraded 100 mg L−1 of alachlor within 48 h, which was the highest alachlor degradation efficiency. The degradation pathway of alachlor was studied using GC-MS analysis. Alachlor was initially degraded to 2-chloro-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl) acetamide, which was further degraded to 2,6-diethylaniline and 7-ethylindoline, respectively. 2,6-Diethylaniline was transformed into N-(2,6-diethylphenyl) formamide. N-(2,6-diethylphenyl) formamide was a first-reported intermediate during the degrading pathway of alachlor by single isolate.

Abstract
The constant utilization of herbicide butachlor to prevent weeds in agronomic management is leading to its growing accumulation in environment and adverse impact on crop production and food security. Some technologies proposed for butachlor degradation in waters and farmland soils are available, but the catabolic mechanism in crops polluted with butachlor remains unknown. How plants cope with the ecotoxicity of butachlor is not only a fundamental scientific question but is also of critical importance for safe crop production and human health. This study developed a genetically improved rice genotype by overexpressing a novel glycosyltransferase gene named OsGT1 to accelerate removal of butachlor residues in rice crop and its growth environment. Both transcriptional expression and protein activates of OsGT1 are considerably induced under butachlor stress. The growth of the OsGT1 overexpression rice (OsOE) was significantly improved and butachlor-induced cellular damage was greatly attenuated compared to its wild-type (WT). The butachlor concentrations in shoots and roots of the hydroponically grown OsOE plants were reduced by 14.1-30.7 % and 37.8-47.7 %. In particular, the concentrations in the grain of OsOE lines were reduced to 54.6-85.6 % of those in wild-type. Using LC-Q-TOF-HRMS/MS, twenty-three butachlor derivatives including 16 metabolites and 7 conjugations with metabolic pathways were characterized, and it turns out that the OsOE lines accumulated more degradative products than wild-type, implying that more butachlor molecules were intensively catabolized. Taken together, the reduced residues of parent butachlor in rice and its growth media point out that OsGT1 plays a critical role in detoxifying and catabolizing the poisoning chemical in plants and its environment.

Abstract
The microbial degradation of acephate in pure cultures has been thoroughly explored, but synergistic metabolism at the community level has rarely been investigated. Here, we report a novel microbial consortium, ZQ01, capable of effectively degrading acephate and its toxic product methamidophos, which can use acephate as a source of carbon, phosphorus and nitrogen. The degradation conditions with consortium ZQ01 were optimized using response surface methodology at a temperature of 34.1 °C, a pH of 8.9, and an inoculum size of 2.4 × 108 CFU·mL-1, with 89.5% of 200 mg L-1 acephate degradation observed within 32 h. According to the main products methamidophos, acetamide and acetic acid, a novel degradation pathway for acephate was proposed to include hydrolysis and oxidation as the main pathways of acephate degradation. Moreover, the bioaugmentation of acephate-contaminated soils with consortium ZQ01 significantly enhanced the removal rate of acephate. The results of the present work demonstrate the potential of microbial consortium ZQ01 to degrade acephate in water and soil environments, with a different and complementary acephate degradation pathway.

Abstract
Herbicides have been extensively used globally, resulting in severe environmental pollution. Novel butachlor-degrading Pseudomonas sp. strain But2 isolated from soil can degrade butachlor regardless of the concentration and grows without a lag phase. Specific degradation was increased at 0.01-0.1 mM, and did not change significantly at higher concentrations. During degradation, 2-chloro-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl) acetamide, 2,6-diethylaniline, and 1,3-diethylbenzene were formed, which indicated that deamination occurred. Moreover, Pseudomonas sp. strains could tolerate propanil at up to 0.8 mM. The mixed bacterial culture of Pseudomonas sp. But2 and Acinetobacter baumannii DT (a propanil-degrading bacterial strain) showed highly effective biodegradation of both butachlor and propanil in liquid media and soil. For example, under treatment with the mixed culture, the half-lives of propanil and butachlor were 1 and 5 days, respectively, whereas those for the control were 3 and 15 days. The adjuvants present in herbicides reduced degradation in liquid media, but did not influence herbicide removal from the soil. The results showed that the mixed bacteria culture is a good candidate for the removal of butachlor and propanil from contaminated soils.

Abstract
An obligate anaerobic bacterial strain (BAD-6T) capable of degrading acetochlor and butachlor was isolated from an anaerobic acetochlor-degrading reactor. Cells were Gram-stain positive, straight to gently curved rods with flagella. The major fermentation products in peptone-yeast broth were acetate and butyrate. The optimum temperature and pH for growth was 30 °C and 7.2-7.5, respectively. The major cellular fatty acids (> 10%) were C14:0 FAME, C16:0 FAME and cyc-9,10-C19:0 DMA. Genome sequencing revealed a genome size of 4.80 Mb, a G + C content of 43.6 mol% and 4741 protein-coding genes. The most closely related described species on the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequences was Anaerovorax odorimutans NorPutT in the order Clostridiales of the class Clostridia with sequence similarity of 94.9%. The nucleotide identity (ANI) value and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) between the genomes of strain BAD-6T and Ana. odorimutans NorPutT were 70.9% and 15.9%, respectively. Based on the distinct differences in phylogenetic and phenotypic characteristics between strain BAD-6T and related species, Sinanaerobacter chloroacetimidivorans gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed to accommodate the strain. Strain BAD-6T is the type strain (= CCTCC AB 2021092T = KCTC 25290T).

Abstract
The herbicide butachlor has been used in huge quantities worldwide, affecting various environmental systems. Butachlor residues have been detected in soil, water, and organisms, and have been shown to be toxic to these non-target organisms. This paper briefly summarizes the toxic effects of butachlor on aquatic and terrestrial animals, including humans, and proposes the necessity of its removal from the environment. Due to long-term exposure, some animals, plants, and microorganisms have developed resistance toward butachlor, indicating that the toxicity of this herbicide can be reduced. Furthermore, we can consider removing butachlor residues from the environment by using such butachlor-resistant organisms. In particular, microbial degradation methods have attracted much attention, with about 30 kinds of butachlor-degrading microorganisms have been found, such as Fusarium solani, Novosphingobium chloroacetimidivorans, Chaetomium globosum, Pseudomonas putida, Sphingomonas chloroacetimidivorans, and Rhodococcus sp. The metabolites and degradation pathways of butachlor have been investigated. In addition, enzymes associated with butachlor degradation have been identified, including CndC1 (ferredoxin), Red1 (reductase), FdX1 (ferredoxin), FdX2 (ferredoxin), Dbo (debutoxylase), and catechol 1,2 dioxygenase. However, few reviews have focused on the microbial degradation and molecular mechanisms of butachlor. This review explores the biochemical pathways and molecular mechanisms of butachlor biodegradation in depth in order to provide new ideas for repairing butachlor-contaminated environments. Abstract
The soil dissipation of the widely used herbicides S-metolachlor (SM) and butachlor (BUT) was evaluated in laboratory microcosms at two environmentally relevant doses (15 and 150 μg/g) and for two agricultural soils (crop and paddy). Over 80% of SM and BUT were dissipated within 60 and 30 days, respectively, except in experiments with crop soil at 150 μg/g. Based on compound-specific isotope analysis (CSIA) and observed dissipation, biodegradation was the main process responsible for the observed decrease of SM and BUT in the paddy soil. For SM, biodegradation dominated over other dissipation processes, with changes of carbon isotope ratios (Δδ13C) of up to 6.5‰ after 60 days, and concomitant production of ethane sulfonic acid (ESA) and oxanilic acid (OXA) transformation products. In crop soil experiments, biodegradation of SM occurred to a lesser extent than in paddy soil, and sorption was the main driver of apparent BUT dissipation. Sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene showed that soil type and duration of herbicide exposure were the main determinants of bacterial community variation. In contrast, herbicide identity and spiking dose had no significant effect. In paddy soil experiments, a high (4:1, V/V) ESA to OXA ratio for SM was observed, and phylotypes assigned to anaerobic Clostridiales and sulfur reducers such as Desulfuromonadales and Syntrophobacterales were dominant for both herbicides. Crop soil microcosms, in contrast, were associated with a reverse, low (1:3, V/V) ratio of ESA to OXA for SM, and Alphaproteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Bacillales dominated regardless of the herbicide. Our results emphasize the variability in the extent and modes of SM and BUT dissipation in agricultural soils, and in associated changes in bacterial communities.

Abstract
Obtaining efficient antibiotic-mineralizing consortium or pure cultures is a central issue for the deep elimination of antibiotic-contaminated environments. However, the antibiotic chloramphenicol (CAP) mineralizing consortium has not yet been reported. In this study, an efficient CAP-mineralizing consortium was successfully obtained with municipal activated sludge as the initial inoculum. This consortium is capable of aerobically subsisting on CAP as the sole carbon, nitrogen and energy sources and completely degrading 50 mg L-1 CAP within 24 h. After 5 d, 71.50 ± 2.63% of CAP was mineralized and Cl- recovery efficiency was 90.80 ± 7.34%. Interestingly, the CAP degradation efficiency obviously decreased to 18.22 ± 3.52% within 12 h with co-metabolic carbon source glucose. p-nitrobenzoic acid (p-NBA) was identified as an intermediate product during CAP biodegradation. The consortium is also able to utilize p-NBA as the sole carbon and nitrogen sources and almost completely degrade 25 mg L-1p-NBA within 24 h. Microbial community analysis indicated that the dominant genera in the CAP-mineralizing consortium all belong to Proteobacteria (especially Sphingobium with the relative abundance over 63%), and most bacteria could degrade aromatics including p-NBA, suggesting these genera involved in the upstream and downstream pathway of CAP degradation. Although the acclimated consortium has been successively passaged 152 times, the microbial community structure and core genera were not obviously changed, which was consistent with the stable CAP degradation efficiency observed under different generations. This is the first report that the acclimated consortium is able to mineralize CAP through an oxidative pathway with p-NBA as an intermediate product.

Abstract
The environmental fate of the extensively used chloroacetanilide herbicides (CH) has been a cause of increasing concern in the past decade because of their carcinogenic properties. Although microbes play important roles in CH degradation, Sphingomonas wittichii DC-6 was the first reported CH-mineralizing bacterium. In this study, the complete genome of strain DC-6 was sequenced and comparative genomic analysis was performed using strain DC-6 and other three partial CH-degrading bacteria, Sphingobium quisquiliarum DC-2, Sphingobium baderi DE-13, and Sphingobium sp. MEA3-1. 16S rDNA phylogenetic analysis indicated that strain DC-2, MEA3-1, and DE-13 are closely related and DC-6 has relatively distant genetic relationship with the other three strains. The identified CH degradation genes responsible for the upstream and downstream pathway, including cndA, cmeH, meaXY, and meaAB, were all located in conserved DNA fragments (or genetic islands) in the vicinity of mobile element proteins. Protein BLAST in the NCBI database showed that cndA and cmeH were present in the genomes of other sequenced strains isolated from various habitats; however, the gene compositions in these host strains were completely different from those of other sphingomonads, and codon usage of genes for upstream pathway were also different from that of downstream pathway. These results showed that the upstream and downstream pathways of CH degradation in strain DC-6 have evolved by horizontal gene transfer and gene combination. In addition, the genes of the ring-cleavage pathway were not conserved and may have evolved directly from bacterial degradation of hydroxyquinol. The present study provides insights into the evolutionary strategy and microbial catabolic pathway of CH mineralization.

Abstract
Nitrifiers and denitrifiers play a critical role in nitrogen removal in urban river sediments that are also affected by agricultural activities. However, the seasonal variations and vertical profile of these organisms in these river sediments are not well understood. In this study, the seasonal and depth (0 to 30 cm) distributions of the abundance and activity of nitrifiers and denitrifiers in sediments of the Pearl River in Guangzhou city were quantifying via qPCR and RT-qPCR according to various nitrifying and denitrifying functional genes, and their diversities were analyzed via high-throughput sequencing on an Illumina MiSeq platform. Results show that the distribution of nitrifiers and denitrifiers in these urban sediments were more abundant and active during the summer than winter; had distinct vertical distributions in the bacterial numbers and activity, with higher activity of the nirS gene (yearly averaged RNA:DNA 2.5% at 18 to 22 cm, vs. a yearly-depth average of 0.65%) but with lower overall numbers (yearly averaged 2.1 × 106 copies g-1 at 18 to 22 cm, vs. a yearly-depth average of 12.5 × 106 copies g-1); and their amoA and nosZ gene diversities in the sediments exhibited a correlation with the communities in nearby agricultural soils.

Abstract
Butachlor is a chloroacetamide herbicide used worldwide for controlling weeds in plants of rice, corn, soybean and other crops. In this study, indigenous bacterial species Ammoniphilus sp. JF was isolated from the agricultural fields of Punjab and identified using 16S ribosomal RNA analysis. The bacteria utilized butachlor as the sole carbon source and showed complete degradation (100 mg/L) within 24 h of incubation. Two intermediate products, namely 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, bis(2-methylpropyl) ester and 2,4-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-phenol were observed at the end of butachlor degradation. To the best of author's knowledge, biodegradation of butachlor by indigenous Ammoniphilus sp. JF from the agricultural fields of Punjab has not been reported so far.

Abstract
Chemical herbicides are widely used to control weeds and are frequently detected as contaminants in the environment. Due to their toxicity, the environmental fate of herbicides is of great concern. Microbial catabolism is considered the major pathway for the dissipation of herbicides in the environment. In recent decades, there have been an increasing number of reports on the catabolism of various herbicides by microorganisms. This review presents an overview of the recent advances in the microbial catabolism of various herbicides, including phenoxyacetic acid, chlorinated benzoic acid, diphenyl ether, tetra-substituted benzene, sulfonamide, imidazolinone, aryloxyphenoxypropionate, phenylurea, dinitroaniline, s-triazine, chloroacetanilide, organophosphorus, thiocarbamate, trazinone, triketone, pyrimidinylthiobenzoate, benzonitrile, isoxazole and bipyridinium herbicides. This review highlights the microbial resources that are capable of catabolizing these herbicides and the mechanisms involved in the catabolism. Furthermore, the application of herbicide-degrading strains to clean up herbicide-contaminated sites and the construction of genetically modified herbicide-resistant crops are discussed.

Abstract
Due to the extensive use of chloroacetanilide herbicides over the past 60 years, bacteria have evolved catabolic pathways to mineralize these compounds. In the upstream catabolic pathway, chloroacetanilide herbicides are transformed into the two common metabolites 2-methyl-6-ethylaniline (MEA) and 2,6-diethylaniline (DEA) through N-dealkylation and amide hydrolysis. The pathway downstream of MEA is initiated by the hydroxylation of aromatic rings, followed by its conversion to a substrate for ring cleavage after several steps. Most of the key genes in the pathway have been identified. However, the genes involved in the initial hydroxylation step of MEA are still unknown. As a special aniline derivative, MEA cannot be transformed by the aniline dioxygenases that have been characterized. Sphingobium baderi DE-13 can completely degrade MEA and use it as a sole carbon source for growth. In this work, an MEA degradation-deficient mutant of S. baderi DE-13 was isolated. MEA catabolism genes were predicted through comparative genomic analysis. The results of genetic complementation and heterologous expression demonstrated that the products of meaX and meaY are responsible for the initial step of MEA degradation in S. baderi DE-13. MeaXY is a two-component flavoprotein monooxygenase system that catalyzes the hydroxylation of MEA and DEA using NADH and flavin mononucleotide (FMN) as cofactors. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis confirmed that MeaXY hydroxylates MEA and DEA at the para-position. Transcription of meaX was enhanced remarkably upon induction of MEA or DEA in S. baderi DE-13. Additionally, meaX and meaY were highly conserved among other MEA-degrading sphingomonads. This study fills a gap in our knowledge of the biochemical pathway that carries out mineralization of chloroacetanilide herbicides in sphingomonads.IMPORTANCE Much attention has been paid to the environmental fate of chloroacetanilide herbicides used for the past 60 years. Microbial degradation is considered an important mechanism in the degradation of these compounds. Bacterial degradation of chloroacetanilide herbicides has been investigated in many recent studies. Pure cultures or consortia able to mineralize these herbicides have been obtained. The catabolic pathway has been proposed, and most key genes involved have been identified. However, the genes responsible for the initiation step (from MEA to hydroxylated MEA or from DEA to hydroxylated DEA) of the downstream pathway have not been reported. The present study demonstrates that a two-component flavin-dependent monooxygenase system, MeaXY, catalyzes the para-hydroxylation of MEA or DEA in sphingomonads. Therefore, this work finds a missing link in the biochemical pathway that carries out the mineralization of chloroacetanilide herbicides in sphingomonads. Additionally, the results expand our understanding of the degradation of a special kind of aniline derivative.

Abstract
Masa Agria is a naturally fermented maize dough produced in Colombia, very common in the traditional gastronomy. In this study we used culture-dependent and RNA-based pyrosequencing to investigate the bacterial community structure of Masa Agria samples produced in the south west of Colombia. The mean value of cell density was 7.6 log CFU/g of presumptive lactic acid bacteria, 5.4 log cfu/g for presumptive acetic bacteria and 5.6 og CFU/g for yeasts. The abundance of these microorganisms is also responsible for the low pH (3.1–3.7) registered. Although the 16S rRNA pyrosequencing revealed that the analyzed samples were different in bacteria richness and diversity, the genera Lactobacillus, Weissella, and Acetobacter were predominant. In particular, the most common species were Lactobacillus plantarum and Acetobacter fabarum, followed by L. fermentum, L. vaccinostercus, and Pediococcus argentinicus. Several microorganisms of environmental origin, such as Dechloromonas and most of all Sphingobium spp., revealed in each sample, were detected, and also bacteria related to maize, such as Phytoplasma. In conclusion, our results elucidated for the first time the structures of the bacterial communities of Masa Agria samples obtained from different producers, identifying the specific dominant species and revealing a complete picture of the bacterial consortium in this specific niche. The selective pressure of tropical environments may favor microbial biodiversity characterized by a useful technological potential.

Abstract
Bacillus sp. strain hys-1, which was isolated from active sludge, could degrade >90% butachlor at a concentration of 100 mg/L within 7 days. The present work revealed that strain hys-1 could mineralize butachlor via the following pathway: butachlor was initially metabolized to 2-chloro-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)-N-methylacetamide by debutoxylation and then transformed to form 2-chloro-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)acetamide by N-demethylation. Subsequently, it was converted to 2,6-diethylaniline and further mineralized into CO2 and H2O. In addition, the catalytic efficiency of crude cell extracts descended as follows: alachlor > acetochlor > butachlor. Furthermore, a novel 744 bp gene responsible for transforming butachlor into 2-chloro-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)-N-methylacetamide was cloned from strain hys-1 and the encoding debutoxylase was designated Dbo. Then Dbo was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) and purified using Ni-nitrilotriacetic acid affinity chromatography. Dbo displayed the highest activity against butachlor at pH 6.5 and 30 °C. Metal ions played an important role in Dbo activity. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first report that strain hys-1 can mineralize butachlor by a novel metabolic mechanism and the first identification of a gene encoding butachlor debutoxylase.

Abstract
Present study deals with the identification of a novel aldo/keto reductase, AKR17A1 from Anabaena sp. PCC7120 and adds on as 17th family of AKR superfamily drawn from a wide variety of organisms. AKR17A1 shares many characteristics of a typical AKR such as— (i) conferring tolerance to multiple stresses like heat, UV-B, and cadmium, (ii) excellent activity towards known AKR substrates (isatin and 2-nitrobenzaldehyde), and (iii) obligate dependence on NADPH as a cofactor for enzyme activity. The most novel attribute of AKR17A1, first reported in this study, is its capability to metabolize butachlor, a persistent rice field herbicide that adversely affects agro-ecosystem and non-target organisms. The AKR17A1 catalyzed- degradation of butachlor resulted into formation of 1,2-benzene dicarboxylic acid and 2,6 bis (1,1, dimethylethyl) 4,-methyl phenol as the major products confirmed by GC-MS analysis.

Abstract
Strain BUT-14T, a Gram-reaction-negative, non-spore-forming, ellipse-shaped bacterium, was isolated from activated sludge of a chloroacetamide-herbicides-manufacturing wastewater treatment facility. The strain was able to degrade more than 90 % of butachlor, acetochlor and alachlor (100 mg l−1) within 5 days of incubation. The taxonomic position was investigated using a polyphasic approach. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain BUT-14T was a member of the genus
Novosphingobium
and showed the highest sequence similarities to
Novosphingobium soli
DSM 22821T (97.9 %),
N. naphthalenivorans
KACC 15258T (97.4 %),

Chemotaxonomic analysis revealed that strain BUT-14T possessed Q-10 as the predominant ubiquinone, spermidine as the major polyamine and C18 : 1ω7c (46.9 %), C17 : 1ω6c (17.9 %), summed feature 3, C14 : 0 2-OH (4.4 %), C15 : 0 2-OH (3.1 %) and C16 : 0 (5.51 %) as the major fatty acids. The polar lipids included lipid, glycolipid, phosphatidylglycerol, phospholipid, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, sphingoglycolipid and phospatidyldimethylethanolamine.
