Abstract
Due to the absence of acquired immunity, insects primarily rely on their innate immune system to resist pathogenic microorganisms and parasitoids in natural habitats. This innate immune system can be classified into cellular immunity and humoral immunity. Cellular immunity is mediated by hemocytes, which perform phagocytosis, aggregation, and encapsulation to fight against invaders, whereas the humoral immunity primarily activates the immune signaling pathways and induces the generation of immune effectors. Existing studies have revealed that the hemipteran aphids lack some crucial immune genes compared to other insect species, indicating the different immune mechanisms in aphids. The current review summarizes the adverse impacts of pathogenic microorganisms and parasitoids on aphids, introduces the cellular and humoral immune systems in insects, and analyzes the differences between aphids and other insect species. Furthermore, our review also discussed the existing prospects and challenges in aphid immunity research, and proposed the potential application of immune genes in green pest management.

Abstract
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been accepted to play key roles in the development and progression of mutiple cancers including colorectal cancer (CRC). Here, we identified circ-METTL9, derived from 2 to 4 exons of METTL9 gene, may promote CRC progression by accelerating cell cycle progression. However, the role and mechanism of circ-METTL9 in CRC remains unclear. Based on our data, the expression of circ-METTL9 was significantly upregulated in CRC tissues and markedly increased in advanced tumors in CRC patients. Functional experiments demonstrated that circ-METTL9 overexpression promoted CRC cells proliferation and migration in vitro, and simultaneously enhanced CRC tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. Mechanistically, RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assays proved that circ-METTL9 might be a miRNA sponge, and RNA pulldown assays showed the interaction between circ-METTL9 and miR-551b-5p. Notably, cyclin-dependent kinase 6 (CDK6), a key regulator in cell cycle, is a conserved downstream target of miR-551b-5p. Taken together, our findings highlight a novel oncogenic function of circ-METTL9 in CRC progression via circ-METTL9/miR-551b-5p/CDK6 axis, which may serve as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for CRC patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It remains a challenge to judge whether comatose patients with acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) can wake up. Here, we aimed to investigate the changes in right ventricle-pulmonary artery (RV-PA) coupling over time in these patients and to evaluate its performance for discriminating between those who woke up within 60 days and those who did not. METHODS Thirty-five comatose patients with acute spontaneous ICH underwent bedside echocardiography on days 1, 3, and 5 after onset with the measurement of tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion and mean pulmonary artery pressure. The RV-PA coupling (the ratio of tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion to mean pulmonary artery pressure) was calculated. RESULTS Within 60 days of the onset of coma, 11 individuals awakened and survived, and 24 individuals died. In awakened patients, RV-PA couplings did not differ among days 1, 3, and 5 (1.62 ± 0.38 vs. 1.61 ± 0.32 vs. 1.64 ± 0.25 mm/mm Hg, P > 0.05), whereas in unawakened patients, they decreased drastically from day 1 to day 3 and then to day 5 (1.26 ± 0.32 vs. 0.63 ± 0.05 vs. 0.43 ± 0.06 mm/mm Hg, P < 0.05). The area under receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.992 for the ratio of RV-PA coupling on day 5 to day 1 of the coma was superior to that for the Glasgow Coma Scale (area under receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.606) in the discrimination of comatose patients with ICH who woke up within 60 days from those who did not. The optimal cutoff value was 0.536, with a sensitivity of 100.00%, a specificity of 96.24%, and an accuracy of 97.13%. CONCLUSIONS Right ventricle-pulmonary artery coupling demonstrated a high performance for discriminating comatose patients with ICH who woke up within 60 days from those who did not.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Field control of pest thrips mainly relies on insecticides, but the toxicity of insecticides can vary among thrips species and populations. In this study, we examined the susceptibility of multiple field populations of two thrips pests, Frankliniella occidentalis, and Thrips palmi, that often co-occur on vegetables, to nine insecticides belonging to seven subgroups. RESULTS The highest level of variation in susceptibility among F. occidentalis populations was for spinetoram (73.92 fold difference between most resistant and most susceptible population), followed by three neonicotinoids (8.06-15.99 fold), while among T. palmi populations, it was also for spinetoram (257.19 fold), followed by emamectin benzoate, sulfoxaflor, and acetamiprid (23.64-45.50 fold). These findings suggest evolved resistance to these insecticides in some populations of the two thrips. One population of F. occidentalis had a particularly high level of resistance overall, being the most resistant for five of the nine insecticides tested. Likewise, a population of T. palmi had high resistance to all nine insecticides, again suggesting the evolution of resistance to multiple chemicals. For F. occidentalis, the LC95 values of most populations were higher than the field-recommended dosage for all insecticides except chlorfenapyr and emamectin benzoate. For several T. palmi populations, the LC95 values also tended to be higher than recommended dosages, except in the case of emamectin benzoate and spinetoram. CONCLUSIONS Our study found interspecific and intraspecific variations in the susceptibility of two thrips to nine insecticides and multiple resistance in some populations, highlighting the need for ongoing monitoring and resistance management. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Background This study sought to explore the mechanism underlying the therapeutic effects of electroacupuncture (EA) on spatial memory deficits caused by surgery. Methods Hepatic apex resection was performed under propofol-based total intravenous anesthesia. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to EA treatment or EA + mitochondrial division inhibitor-1 (mdivi-1) treatment once a day for three consecutive days after surgery. The Morris water maze test was used to evaluate the spatial memory of the rats after surgery. Tissue from the hippocampus of each rat was frozen and used for transcriptomic and proteomic analyses to identify potential targets for EA treatment. Western blotting was used to confirm the protein expression levels. The levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) were detected using commercial kits. The rat mitochondria were then isolated, and the activity of mitochondrial complex V was assessed. Results EA attenuated surgery-induced spatial memory deficits on postoperative day 3, while these effects were reversed by treatment with the mdivi-1 (P<0.05). Ribonucleic acid (RNA)-sequencing revealed that EA upregulated multiple metabolic pathways and the phosphatidylinositol 3‑kinas/protein kinase B signaling pathway. The proteomic and western blotting results suggested that the EA treatment substantially downregulated coiled-coil-helix-coiled-coil-helix domain containing 3 (ChChd3) expression in the hippocampus. The EA treatment significantly increased the autophagy-related protein levels, including phosphatase and tensin homolog-induced kinase 1, Parkin, MAP1LC3 (LC3), and Beclin1, and inhibited the production of ROS and inflammatory cytokine interleukin-1β in the hippocampus (P<0.05). Conclusions These results suggest that EA ameliorates postoperative spatial memory deficits and protects hippocampus from oxidative stress and inflammation through enhanced autophagy in an animal model of perioperative neurocognitive disorders (PNDs).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Thrips pests cause increasing damage to crops around the world. Widespread usage of some insecticides against thrips has now led to the evolution of resistance to several active ingredients, and new insecticides are required. This study examined the toxicity of the novel insecticide broflanilide to multiple populations of several thrips pests. RESULTS Bioassays showed that thrips populations had LC50 values ranging from 0.5 to almost 300 mg·L-1 . A population of Frankliniella occidentalis had the highest LC50 value at 290.63 mg·L-1 , while a population of Echinothrips americanus had the lowest LC50 value at 0.51 mg L-1 . LC50 values among seven populations of Thrips palmi ranged from 2.5689 to 23.6754 mg·L-1 , indicating intraspecific variation in toxicity. In this species, the toxicity of broflanilide was relatively higher in adults than in larvae. More than 90% of eggs of T. palmi could not develop into larvae when treated with 5-50 mg L-1 broflanilide. Compared to five commonly used insecticides, broflanilide showed relatively high toxicity to T. palmi. Field control tests with T. palmi showed that control efficacy (from 90.44% to 93.14%) was maintained from day three to day 14 after treatment with 22.5 and 45 ga.i hm-1 broflanilide. CONCLUSION Broflanilide is potentially a useful insecticide for controlling Thrips hawaiiensis, Frankliniella intonsa, Megalurothrips usitatus. E. americanus, and some populations of T. palmi. However, the variation in toxicity of this insecticide to different species, populations, and developmental stages indicates that target species and life stages may need to be carefully considered. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
To analyze the clinical and endoscopic characteristics of colorectal polyps in children, and to explore the detection rate, age and gender distribution characteristics, endoscopic treatment effect and follow-up monitoring of colorectal polyps in children, so as to provide reference for disease management of colorectal polyps in children. The clinical and endoscopic characteristics of children with colorectal polyps in Xi 'an Children's Hospital from January 2019 to December 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into 5 groups according to age (y): 0<y<1 years, 1≤ y<4 years, 4≤ y<7 years, 7≤ y<12 years, and 12≤ y ≤18 years. Independent sample t test, Pearson Chi-square test (χ2) were used to compare groups' differences. The results showed that a total of 724 colonoscopies were completed in 2019, and 160 colorectal polyps were diagnosed, with a detection rate of 22.10%. Among the children with colorectal polyps, 105 were males, accounting for 65.62%, and 55 were females, accounting for 34.38%. The detection rate of male colorectal polyps was 22.68%, and the detection rate of female colorectal polyps was 21.08%. There was no significant difference in the detection rate of colorectal polyps between males and females (χ2 = 0.25, P =0.617). Children with colorectal polyps were most common in the age group of 1≤ y<4 years, 72 cases, accounting for 41.14%(72/175). The detection rate of colorectal polyps in different age groups was statistically significant (χ2=73.929, P<0.05). The main symptom of children with colorectal polyps was hematochezia, accounting for 87.5% (140/160). Colorectal polyps were mainly single polyps in 140 patients, accounting for 87.50%, 15 patients had 2-4 polyps, accounting for 9.38%, and 5 patients had 5 or more polyps, accounting for 3.12%. A total of 210 polyps were removed, and the most common site of polyps was rectum, 123 polyps, accounting for 58.57% (123/210). 111 (52.86%, 111/210) of them were 1 cm to 2 cm in diameter. The Yamada classification was mainly type Ⅲ, 114 pieces, accounting for 54.29% (114/210). Among the 210 polyps with diameter ≥0.5 cm, 165 were removed by endoscopic mucosal resection, accounting for 78.57% (165/210). There were 23 patients with postoperative complications, including hematochezia, abdominal pain, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and no gastrointestinal perforation. Juvenile polyps were the main pathological type, accounting for 88.13% (141/160). The children with juvenile polyps were followed up for 3-30 months, and recurrence was considered in 2 of them. In conclusion, the detection rate of colorectal polyps in children aged 1≤ y<4 years is high, and hematochezia is the main clinical manifestation. Standardized endoscopic treatment and follow-up monitoring are very important for children with colorectal polyps.

Abstract
AIM: To assess the changes in the peripapillary vasculature and macular thickness after cataract surgery using two phacoemulsification systems with optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).
METHODS: Fifty-two eyes of 52 patients with age-related cataract were randomized into two groups for phacoemulsification: Infiniti group (26 patients) using the Infiniti phacoemulsification system with gravity-fluidics and Centurion group (26 patients) using the Centurion phacoemulsification system with active-fluidics. The peripapillary vessel density (PVD) and macular thickness were examined using OCTA at baseline and at 1d, 1 and 3mo after cataract surgery.
RESULTS: In the Infiniti group, the PVD was significantly reduced at 1d after the cataract surgery (P<0.001). However, the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness showed no significant change during the follow-up. Change in PVD 1d postoperatively was significantly negatively correlated to the cumulative dissipated energy (CDE), estimated fluid usage (EFU), effective phacoemulsification time (EPT), intraocular pressure (IOP), and total operating time (TOT; P<0.05). The macular thickness was significantly increased in all regions after the cataract surgery (P<0.05). However, no significant changes were found in the macular vessel density (VD) during the follow-up (P>0.05). In the Centurion group, the VD and thickness in the optic papilla and macula did not significantly change in all regions during the follow-up (all P>0.05). The best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) significantly improved in both groups postoperatively (P<0.001).
CONCLUSION: Using the Infiniti phacoemulsification system, OCTA provides a promising analysis of retinal vascular alterations, demonstrating a reduction of the PVD and an increase in the macular thickness. The Centurion phacoemulsification system can provide better retinal vasculature preservation during cataract surgery.

Abstract
Background Sarcopenia, an age-related disease, has been implicated as both a cause and consequence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and a symbol of poor prognosis in older adults with T2DM. Therefore, early detection and effective treatment of sarcopenia are particularly important in older adults with T2DM. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of sarcopenia in Chinese older T2DM patients and explore whether homocysteine and inflammatory indexes could serve as biomarkers and participate in the development process of sarcopenia. Methods T2DM patients aged over 60 years were consecutively recruited from the ward of department of Endocrinology, Xuanwu Hospital between April 2017 and April 2019. Sarcopenia was defined based on the standard of the Asian Working Group of Sarcopenia, including muscle mass, grip strength and gait speed. Logistic regression was used to explore the association between biochemical indicators and sarcopenia. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were applied to determine the diagnostic effect of these clinical indicators. Results Totally 582 older adults with T2DM were characterized and analyzed in the study. Approximately 8.9% of the older T2DM patients had sarcopenia. After adjusting for age, sex, body mass index (BMI) and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), increased concentrations of homocysteine [odds ratio (OR): 2.829; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.064–7.525] and high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) (OR: 1.021; 95% CI, 1.001–1.042) were independent predictors of sarcopenia; but not interleukin-6. The combination of age, sex, BMI and HbA1c provided a discriminatory effect of sarcopenia with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.856, when homocysteine was added to the model, the value of the ROC curve was further improved, with an AUC of 0.861. Conclusion In the current study, we demonstrated a positive correlation of homocysteine, hs-CRP with sarcopenia in older adults with T2DM and the relationship remained significant even after adjustment for HbA1c. These biomarkers (homocysteine and hs-CRP) may play important roles in the pathological process of sarcopenia.

Abstract
Background The chloroacetamide herbicides pretilachlor is an emerging pollutant. Due to the large amount of use, its presence in the environment threatens human health. However, the molecular mechanism of pretilachlor degradation remains unknown. Results Now, Rhodococcus sp. B2 was isolated from rice field and shown to degrade pretilachlor. The maximum pretilachlor degradation efficiency (86.1%) was observed at a culture time of 5 d, an initial substrate concentration 50 mg/L, pH 6.98, and 30.1 °C. One novel metabolite N-hydroxyethyl-2-chloro-N-(2, 6-diethyl-phenyl)-acetamide was identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS). Draft genome comparison demonstrated that a 32,147-bp DNA fragment, harboring gene cluster (EthRABCDB2), was absent from the mutant strain TB2 which could not degrade pretilachlor. The Eth gene cluster, encodes an AraC/XylS family transcriptional regulator (EthRB2), a ferredoxin reductase (EthAB2), a cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (EthBB2), a ferredoxin (EthCB2) and a 10-kDa protein of unknown function (EthDB2). Complementation with EthABCDB2 and EthABDB2, but not EthABCB2 in strain TB2 restored its ability to degrade chloroacetamide herbicides. Subsequently, codon optimization of EthABCDB2 was performed, after which the optimized components were separately expressed in Escherichia coli, and purified using Ni-affinity chromatography. A mixture of EthABCDB2 or EthABDB2 but not EthABCB2 catalyzed the N-dealkoxymethylation of alachlor, acetochlor, butachlor, and propisochlor and O-dealkylation of pretilachlor, revealing that EthDB2 acted as a ferredoxin in strain B2. EthABDB2 displayed maximal activity at 30 °C and pH 7.5. Conclusions This is the first report of a P450 family oxygenase catalyzing the O-dealkylation and N-dealkoxymethylation of pretilachlor and propisochlor, respectively. And the results of the present study provide a microbial resource for the remediation of chloroacetamide herbicides-contaminated sites.![]()

Abstract
Morbidity and mortality caused by infectious diseases rank first among all human illnesses. Many pathogenic mechanisms remain unclear, while misuse of antibiotics has led to the emergence of drug-resistant strains. Infectious diseases spread rapidly and pathogens mutate quickly, posing new threats to human health. However, with the increasing use of high-throughput screening of pathogen genomes, research based on big data mining and visualization analysis has gradually become a hot topic for studies of infectious disease prevention and control. In this paper, the framework was performed on four infectious pathogens (Fusobacterium, Streptococcus, Neisseria, and Streptococcus salivarius) through five functions: 1) genome annotation, 2) phylogeny analysis based on core genome, 3) analysis of structure differences between genomes, 4) prediction of virulence genes/factors with their pathogenic mechanisms, and 5) prediction of resistance genes/factors with their signaling pathways. The experiments were carried out from three angles: phylogeny (macro perspective), structure differences of genomes (micro perspective), and virulence and drug-resistance characteristics (prediction perspective). Therefore, the framework can not only provide evidence to support the rapid identification of new or unknown pathogens and thus plays a role in the prevention and control of infectious diseases, but also help to recommend the most appropriate strains for clinical and scientific research. This paper presented a new genome information visualization analysis process framework based on big data mining technology with the accommodation of the depth and breadth of pathogens in molecular level research.

Abstract
Antimony (Sb) and arsenic (As) are two toxic metalloids, which are listed as priority environmental pollutants by the European Union and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Antimony taken up by plants enters the food chain and poses a threat to human health. Microbial oxidation of antimonite (Sb(III)) and arsenite (As(III)) to the less toxic antimonate (Sb(V)) and arsenate (As(V)), has great potential for the immobilization of Sb and As in the environment. A heterotrophic aerobic bacterium, Roseomonas rhizosphaerae YW11, oxidized both Sb(III) and As(III) in the modified R2A medium. In the same medium, strain YW11 preferred to oxidize Sb(III), whereas the As(III) oxidation rate was only 50%. Genomic analysis of YW11 confirmed the presence of several As-resistance gene islands. The aioAB genes encoding As(III) oxidase were also induced by Sb(III). The role of aioA in Sb(III) oxidation and resistance was confirmed by disrupting this gene in strain YW11, resulting in the loss of Sb(III) oxidation abilities. This study documents an enzymatic basis for microbial Sb(III) oxidation in strain YW11, which is a novel bacterial strain showing simultaneous oxidation of Sb(III) and As(III), and may be a potential candidate for bioremediation of heavy metal-contaminated environments.

Abstract
A device of graphene nanoplatelet-based diffusion gradients in thin-films (G-DGT) was developed for in situ sampling of tetracycline (TC), oxytetracycline (OTC) and chlortetracycline (CTC) in aquatic environment. The accumulation of antibiotics in a synthetic solution by the proposed G-DGT was consistent with the theoretical curves predicted by the DGT equation. The values of the detection and quantification limits of G-DGT using high-performance liquid chromatography over the deployment time of 7 days were at the level of μg L-1 for the three antibiotics. The performance of the proposed G-DGT was unaffected by pH (3-9) and ionic strength (0.001-0.7 mol L-1 NaNO3). Fulvic acid did not significantly interfere with the performance of the proposed G-DGT device when the mass ratios between the three antibiotics and fulvic acid were within the range of 1:10-1:100. Humic acid had a significant effect on the performance of the proposed G-DGT for the sampling of the three antibiotics due to strong complexation and coprecipitation between the antibiotics and humic acid. The proposed G-DGT was used for the in situ sampling in spiked freshwaters and livestock culture wastewater and exhibited good precision and accuracy without notable interference from the matrices.

Abstract
Simple Summary The peach fruit moth, Carposina sasakii, and the oriental fruit moth, Grapholita molesta are two co-occurring pests in orchards. Larvae of both species bore into fruits and cause damage to fruit production. Understanding the gut microbes, as well as the influencing factors between these co-occurring pests, may provide insight into their occurrence and control. In this study, we found that the two pests shared many bacteria in their gut from the genera Pseudomonas, Gluconobacter, Acetobacter, and Pantoea. The composition of the gut microbiota is similar between the two species collected from the same host plant and orchard; however, the gut microbiota of individuals collected from different orchards of the same host plant can be different within pest species. These results show that the two fruit moth pests have similar gut bacteria and varied environment in orchards can influence their gut microbiota. Abstract Numerous gut microbes are associated with insects, but their composition remains largely unknown for many insect groups, along with factors influencing their composition. Here, we compared gut bacterial microbiota of two co-occurring agricultural pests, the peach fruit moth (PFM), Carposina sasakii, and the oriental fruit moth (OFM), Grapholita molesta, collected from different orchards and host plant species. Gut microbiota of both species was mainly composed of bacteria from Proteobacteria, followed by Firmicutes. The two species shared bacteria from the genera Pseudomonas, Gluconobacter, Acetobacter, and Pantoea. When we compared two pairs of PFM and OFM populations collected from the same host species and the same orchard, there is no difference in alpha and beta diversity in gut microbiota. When we compared gut microbiota of the same species and host plant from different orchards, alpha and beta diversity was different in populations of PFM collected from two pear orchards but not in other comparisons. Our study suggests that the two pests share many features of gut microbiota and environment in orchards is a main factor influencing their gut microbiota.

Abstract
Background Circular RNA (circRNAs) and hypoxia have been found to play the key roles in the pathogenesis and progression of cancer including colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the expressions and functions of the specific circRNAs in regulating hypoxia-involved CRC metastasis, and the circRNAs that are relevant to regulate HIF-1α levels in CRC remain elusive. Methods qRT-PCR was used to detect the expression of circRNAs and mRNA in CRC cells and tissues. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was used to analyze the location of circ-ERBIN. Function-based experiments were performed using circ-ERBIN overexpression and knockdown cell lines in vitro and in vivo, including CCK8, colony formation, EdU assay, transwell, tumor growth and metastasis models. Mechanistically, luciferase reporter assay, western blots and immunohistochemical stainings were performed. Results Circ-Erbin was highly expressed in the CRC cells and Circ-Erbin overexpression facilitated the proliferation, migration and metastasis of CRC in vitro and in vivo. Notably, circ-Erbin overexpression significantly promoted angiogenesis by increasing the expression of hypoxia induced factor (HIF-1α) in CRC. Mechanistically, circ-Erbin accelerated a cap-independent protein translation of HIF-1α in CRC cells as the sponges of miR-125a-5p and miR-138-5p, which synergistically targeted eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E binding protein 1(4EBP-1). Conclusions Our findings uncover a key mechanism for circ-Erbin mediated HIF-1α activation by miR-125a-5p-5p/miR-138-5p/4EBP-1 axis and circ-ERBIN is a potential target for CRC treatment. Abstract
The hybrid nanocomposites of zero-valent iron loaded the activated carbon derived from the corn stalk (ZVI@ACCS) was prepared and used to remove the antibiotics of tetracycline (TC), oxytetracycline (OTC) and chlortetracycline (CTC) from aqueous solution. The adsorption amounts of three antibiotics (103.1 mg g-1 for CTC, 72.9 mg g-1 for OTC and 81.5 mg g-1 for TC) were sensitive to the temperature and independent of pH in the range of 4.2-7.1 at 298 K through the synergistic interactions of the electrostatic attraction, the bridging complexation and the surface complexation. The equilibrium was performed within 20 min at 298 K. The spontaneous (ΔGo<0) and endothermic (ΔHo>0) adsorption of three antibiotics onto the ZVI@ACCS nanocomposites gave a better matching (r2 > 0.99) with Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models.

Abstract
A total of 24 surface sediment samples were collected from Liao River, Northeast China. The concentration, spatial distribution, potential source, and ecological risk of 13 organophosphate esters (OPEs) flame retardants and plasticizers were analyzed. The total concentrations of OPEs varied considerably, ranging from 19.7 to 234 ng g-1 dry weight (dw), with the mean concentrations of 64.2 ± 52.2 ng g-1 dw. The OPEs pollution was increasing from upstream to downstream of Liao River. Compared with other sediments of rivers and lakes all over the world, Liao River has been seriously contaminated by OPEs, especially tributyl phosphate (TNBP) and tri-butoxyethyl phosphate (TBOEP). TNBP was the most abundant OPEs, followed by TBOEP and triphenylphosphine oxide. Their mean relative contributions were 26.3%, 12.4% and 11.6%, respectively. Positive matrix factorization indicated that OPEs in sediments from Liao River might be derived from plastic, textile, and polyurethane foam, anti-foam agent, hydraulic fluids, and coatings, indoor release, and chemical process emission. The risk of potential adverse effects of each individually OPEs on aquatic organisms were low (risk quotient less than 0.1). 2-Ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate was the main substance causing risk.

Abstract
Acute respiratory disease caused by 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) has rapidly spread throughout China. Children and adults show a different clinical course. The purpose of the current study is to comparatively analyze the clinical characteristics of 2019-nCoV infection in children and adults and to explore the possible causes for the discrepancies present. The medical records of 25 adults and 7 children confirmed cases of 2019-2019-nCoV acute respiratory diseases were reviewed retrospectively. All children were family clusters. The total adult patients were differentiated into the local residents of Wuhan, a history of travel to Wuhan and direct contact with people from Wuhan. The numbers were 14 (56%), 10 (40%), and 1 (4%), respectively. The median incubation period of children and adults was 5 days (ranged, 3-12 days) and 4 days (ranged, 2-12 days), respectively. Diarrhoea and/or vomiting (57.1%) were demic by World Health Organiza more common in children, whereas for adults it was myalgia or fatigue (52%). On admission, the percentage of children having pneumonia (5%, 71.4%) was roughly the same as adults (20%, 80%). A total of 20% of adults had leucopoenia, but leukocytosis was more frequently in children (28.6%, P=.014). A higher number of children had elevated creatine kinase isoenzyme (57.1% vs 4%, P=.004). Antiviral therapy was given to all adult patients but to none of the children. In summary, knowledge of these differences between children and adults will not only be helpful for the clinical diagnosis of 2019-nCoV disease, but also for a future discussion on age-specific coronavirus infection.

Abstract
Convergent lines of evidence indicate the critical roles of adiponectin in regulating neural functions on different levels. Because of the importance in maintaining neural plasticity including adult neurogenesis and synaptic plasticity, adiponectin has the potential to serve as the treatment targets in therapies of neurological and psychiatric disorders. Hence, systematic review is needed to summarize how adiponectin works in the brain, and how the adiponectin pathway is employed as the treatment method needs to be determined. Moreover, the benefits of adiponectin as the regulator for neural plasticity such as synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis have been supported by many literatures. In the current article, we reviewed the functions of adiponectin in different types of neural plasticity. We also demonstrated the potential value of adiponectin as the treatment target for different types of neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders. Taken together, this review offers a new insight about adiponectin as the ideal target to develop the new treatment methods against neurodegeneration or psychiatric diseases.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the differences in higher-order aberrations (HOAs) after laser subepithelial keratomileusis (LASEK) between two different laser platforms. METHODS One hundred and seven eyes of 107 patients were included in this study. Fifty-six eyes underwent LASEK with the Triple-A profile (an ablation profile of the MEL 90 excimer laser) and 51 eyes underwent LASEK with the aspheric (Aberration Smart Ablation [ASA]) profile. Uncorrected distance visual acuity, corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), corneal topography, and ocular aberrations were measured before and 6 months postoperatively. RESULTS In the ASA group, the values of horizontal trefoil, vertical coma, horizontal coma, spherical aberrations, and total HOAs increased significantly after surgery (all P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in the vertical trefoil between the preoperative and 6-month postoperative periods. In the Triple-A group, there were no differences in vertical trefoil and horizontal trefoil values between the preoperative and 6-month postoperative periods. Compared with the preoperative values, vertical coma, horizontal coma, spherical aberrations, and total HOAs were significantly increased at 6 months after surgery (all P < 0.05). Compared to the Triple-A group, higher horizontal trefoil and horizontal coma were introduced in the ASA group at 6 months postoperatively. CONCLUSION The Triple-A ablation profile of the MEL 90 excimer laser at a 500-Hz pulse rate was an efficient method to correct myopia, especially for mild-to-moderate myopia, compared with the aspheric ablation model, fewer horizontal trefoil and horizontal coma were induced at 6 months after LASEK. Abstract
Liver metastasis is the main cause of death in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Here, we searched for CRC metastasis-associated circular RNA in a mouse model of liver metastasis of CRC by using RNA (transcriptome)-sequencing. We identified a novel and conserved circular RNA, circ-NSD2, functioning as a promoter of CRC metastasis. Circ-NSD2 expression was elevated in CRC tissues and was markedly increased in advanced stages or metastatic tumours of CRC patients. Gain-of-function and loss-of-function experiments demonstrated that circ-NSD2 promoted migration and metastasis of CRC in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, circ-NSD2 acted as a sponge for the tumour suppressor miR-199b-5p and activated DDR1 (discoidin domain receptor tyrosine kinase 1) and JAG1 (Jagged 1) genes, which synergistically helped with cell-matrix interaction, migration and metastasis of CRC cells. Taken together, our findings highlight a novel oncogenic function of circ-NSD2 and uncover a key mechanism for the circ-NSD2/miR-199b-5p/DDR1/JAG1 axis in CRC metastasis, which may serve as a prognostic factor and therapeutic target for antimetastatic therapy in CRC patients. Abstract
The veined rapa whelk, Rapana venosa, a poikilotherm that is susceptible to temperature, is an important and valuable fishery resource in China but a major invader around the world. We studied the effects of abnormal temperature on the digestive tract microflora of R. venosa to investigate how temperature impacts its digestion and ingestion. We characterized the microflora in nine samples by sequencing the 16S rRNA gene. To assess the species diversity within the samples, effective tags were clustered at 97% similarity by default. Mycoplasma was the most abundant genus among the three groups, and the Proteobacteria phylum had the highest diversity. However, the microflora structure in the digestive tract was significantly different at different temperatures. The top five most abundant genera in the samples housed at 16 °C were Mycoplasma, Phyllobacterium, Aliivibrio, Psychromonas, and Delftia, whereas those in the samples housed under 22 °C were Mycoplasma, Phyllobacterium, Delftia, Spirochaeta_2, and Sphingomonas, and those in the samples housed at 28 °C were Mycoplasma, Phyllobacterium, Vibrio, Delftia, and Aliivibrio. The family Flavobacteriaceae was more abundant in R. venosa housed at 22 °C and 28 °C, whereas a significant decrease in Flavobacteriaceae abundance and a substantial increase in Mycoplasmataceae abundance were observed in R. venosa housed at 16 °C. The alteration in the digestive tract microflora might further affect the function of the R. venosa digestive tract. The results presented herein might provide further insight into investigations on the effects of temperature on the digestion and ingestion of gastropods.

Abstract
DNA methyltransferases (dnmts) are responsible for DNA methylation and play important roles in organism development. In this study, seven dnmts genes (dnmt1, dnmt2, dnmt3aa, dnmt3ab, dnmt3ba, dnmt3bb.1, dnmt3bb.2) were identified in Nile tilapia. Comprehensive analyses of dnmts were performed using available genome databases from representative animal species. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the dnmts family were highly conserved in teleosts. Based on transcriptome data from eight adult tilapia tissues, the dnmts were found to be dominantly expressed in the head kidney, testis and ovary. Analyses of the gonadal transcriptome data in different developmental stages revealed that all dnmts were expressed in both ovary and testis, and four de novo dnmts (dnmt3aa, dnmt3ab, dnmt3bb.1, dnmt3bb.2) showed higher expression in the testis than in the ovary. Furthermore, during sex reversal induced by Fadrozole, the expression of these four de novo dnmts increased significantly in treated group compared to female control group. By in situ hybridization, the seven dnmts were found to be expressed mainly in phase I and II oocytes of the ovary and spermatocytes of the testis. When gonads were incubated with a methyltransferase inhibitor (5-AzaCdR) in vitro, the expression of dnmts genes were down-regulated significantly, while the expression of cyp19a1a (a key gene in female pathway) and dmrt1 (a key gene in male pathway) increased significantly. Our results revealed the conservation of dnmts during evolution and indicated a potential role of dnmts in epigenetic regulation of gonadal development.

Abstract
Background Ubiquitination is a basic post-translational modification for cellular homeostasis, and members of the conjugating enzyme (E2) family are the key components of the ubiquitin–proteasome system. However, the role of E2 family in colorectal cancer (CRC) is largely unknown. Our study aimed to investigate the role of Ube2v1, one of the ubiquitin-conjugating E2 enzyme variant proteins (Ube2v) but without the conserved cysteine residue required for the catalytic activity of E2s, in CRC. Methods Immunohistochemistry and real-time RT-PCR were used to study the expressions of Ube2v1 at protein and mRNA levels in CRC, respectively. Western blotting and immunofluorescence, transmission electron microscopy, and in vivo rescue experiments were used to study the functional effects of Ube2v1 on autophagy and EMT program. Quantitative mass spectrometry, immunoprecipitation, ubiquitination assay, western blotting, and real-time RT-PCR were used to analyze the effects of Ube2v1 on histone H4 lysine 16 acetylation, interaction with Sirt1, ubiquitination of Sirt1, and autophagy-related gene expression. Results Ube2v1 was elevated in CRC samples, and its increased expression was correlated with poorer survival of CRC patients. Ube2v1 promoted migration and invasion of CRC cells in vitro and tumor growth and metastasis of CRC cells in vivo. Interestingly, Ube2v1suppressed autophagy program and promoted epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) and metastasis of CRC cells in an autophagy-dependent pattern in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, both rapamycin and trehalose attenuated the enhanced Ube2v1-mediated lung metastasis by inducing the autophagy pathway in an orthotropic mouse xenograft model of lung metastasis. Mechanistically, Ube2v1 promoted Ubc13-mediated ubiquitination and degradation of Sirt1 and inhibited histone H4 lysine 16 acetylation, and finally epigenetically suppressed autophagy gene expression in CRC. Conclusions Our study functionally links Ube2v1, an E2 member in the ubiquitin–proteasome system, to autophagy program, thereby shedding light on developing Ube2v1 targeted therapy for CRC patients. Abstract
Through the optimization of extraction, purification, and determination parameters, a reliable and convenient analytical method for the simultaneous determination of 13 organophosphate esters in soils was developed. The method is based on one-step extraction and purification by accelerated solvent extraction and analysis by gas chromatography-ion trap tandem mass spectrometry. Under the optimal conditions, the method detection limits and method quantitation limits ranged from 0.10 to 0.22 ng/g and from 0.33 to 0.72 ng/g, respectively. The recoveries obtained were in the range of 81.7-107%, and the relative standard deviations were less than 12%. As compared to other methods, this proposed method was simple and time and solvent saving. The developed method was successfully applied to analyze organophosphate esters in soil samples collected from Liaohe estuarine wetland, China. Thirteen organophosphate esters were detected in all of the soil samples which indicated that Liaohe estuarine wetland has polluted by organophosphate esters.

Abstract
YWHAZ (14-3-3ζ) has been reported to be a prognostic marker for various tumors and play a crucial role in many oncogenic processes, including proliferation, migration and invasion. However, the functional role and mechanism of YWHAZ in gastric cancer (GC) are not in detail and still remain to be studied. In the present study, the endogenous expression of YWHAZ in gastric cancer cell line BGC-823 was silenced by YWHAZ-specific short hairpin RNA (shRNA). Our data showed that YWHAZ silencing resulted in cell cycle arrest in BGC-823 cells. Further, YWHAZ-silenced BGC-823 cells acquired increased apoptosis rate, which was confirmed by increased levels of cleaved caspase-3, cleaved PARP, and Bax, and decreased level of Bcl-2. Suppression of YWHAZ also promoted autophagy, confirming by the upregulation of LC3II /LC3I ratio, and downregulation of p62 level. Moreover, YWHAZ suppression inhibited the activation of PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in BGC-823 cells. LY294002 (PI3K/AKT inhibitor, 200 nM) further promoted YWHAZ silencing-induced apoptosis and autophagy in BGC-823 cells, while insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1; PI3K/AKT agonist, 10 ng/ml) had the opposite role. Finally, suppression of YWHAZ inhibited the growth of the xenograft tumor in vivo. This study provides extended evidence that YWHAZ can be a potential therapeutic target for GC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Chronic renal failure (CRF) is usually associated with chronic diseases such as congestive heart failure and diabetes mellitus, the prevalence of which is increased with age. This study is designed to investigate the role of long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) LINC00963 in renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF) and oxidative stress (OS) of CRF via the forkhead box O (FoxO) signaling pathway. METHODS Microarray data and annotated probe files related to CRF were downloaded by retrieving Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to screen differentially expressed lncRNA. Multi Experiment Matrix (MEM) website and dual-luciferase reporter gene assay were used to predict and verify the target gene of LINC00963, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis to identify the major signaling pathways involved. A total of 60 Wistar male rats were randomly selected and divided into the sham (n = 10) and model (n = 50) groups. Five rats in the sham group and thirty rats in the model group were sub-categorized into the control, blank, negative control (NC), LINC00963 vector, si-LINC00963, si-FoxO3, and si-LINC00963 + si-FoxO3 groups (n = 5). Reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blot analysis were performed to evaluate the expressions of LINC00963, FoxO3a, TGF-β1, FN, GSH-PX, Bax, and Bcl-2. Measurement of changes in OS indexes including BUN, MDA, GSH-Px, SOD, and Na+-K+-ATP were conducted. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine the levels of inflammatory factors including TNF-α, IL-6, ICAM-1 and FN. TUNEL staining was performed to evaluate cell apoptosis. RESULTS LINC00963 was highly expressed in CRF rats and FoxO3 was predicted and then verified as a target gene of LINC00963. FoxO3 gene participated in the FOXO signaling pathway. Compared with the blank and NC groups, there were significantly decreased expressions of LINC00963, TGF-β1, FN, and Bax in the si-LINC00963 group, while increased expressions of GSH-PX, FoxO3a, and Bcl-2. The vitality values of BUN and MDA in the si-LINC00963 group declined, while enzymatic activities of GSH-Px, SOD and Na+-K+-ATP elevated in comparison to the blank and NC groups. The levels of TNF-α, IL-6, ICAM-1 and FN, and cell apoptosis rate in the si-LINC00963 group decreased in comparison to the blank and NC groups. All the results in the si-LINC00963 group were opposite in the LINC00963 vector and si-FoxO3 groups. CONCLUSION Taken together, we conclude that down-regulation of LINC00963 suppresses RIF and OS of CRF by activating the FoxO signaling pathway.

Abstract
The pathogenesis and key functional molecules involved in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) remain unclear. Here, we reported that Erbin, a protein required for the polarity of epithelial cells, is conserved across species and highly expressed in the intestinal mucosa in mice and zebrafish. Pathologically, Erbin expression in the intestinal mucosa was significantly decreased in DSS induced acute colitis mice, IL-10 deficient mice and clinical biopsy specimens from patients with ulcerative colitis. Moreover, Erbin deficient mice are more susceptible to experimental colitis, exhibiting more severe intestinal barrier disruption, with increased histological scores and excessive production of proinflammatory cytokines. Mechanistically, Erbin deficiency or knockdown significantly exacerbated activation of autophagic program and autophagic cell death in vivo and in vitro. And, inhibition of autophagy by Chloroquine attenuates excessive inflammatory response in the DSS-induced colitis mouse model of Erbin deletion. Generally, our study uncovers a crucial role of Erbin in autophagic cell death and IBD, giving rise to a new strategy for IBD therapy by inhibiting excessive activation of autophagy and autophagic cell death.

Abstract
Objective:To perform a systematic review of the efficacy and safety of endonasal phototherapy in the treatment of AR, and to provide evidence of evidence-based medicine for clinical application. Method:Databases were from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Chinese Academic Journal Full-text Database (CNKI) and Wanfang database. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) or clinical study literature on intranasal phototherapy for adult AR is available, and the deadline is March 2017. Based on the literature inclusion and exclusion criteria, the related literatures were selected and the quality was evaluated by using the Cochrane inclusion bias assessment table. Meta-analysis was performed with Revman 5.3 software. For continuous outcomes, the weighted mean difference (WMD) and its 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated, forest maps and funnel plots were drew. For uncontinuous outcomes, the odds ratio (OR) and its 95%CI were calculated, and forest maps and funnel plots were drew. The efficacy included total nasal symptom scores (TNSS), rhinoconjunctivitis quality of life questionnaire (RQLQ) and palate itching scores, and the safety was assessed by incidence rate of severe drying and mild drying of nasal mucosa. Result:A total of 12 articles were selected, including 5 RCT and 7 clinical studies, and there were 615 adult AR patients. The Meta-analysis shows that endonasal phototherapy significantly reduced the TNSS, RQLQ and palate itching scores, the incidence rate of mild drying of nasal mucosa was higher in comparison with pretreated values, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The rate of severe drying of nasal mucosa was higher, but the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). It also shows that endonasal phototherapy significantly reduced the TNSS, RQLQ and palate itching scores, and the rate of mild drying of nasal mucosa was higher in comparison with placebo and antihistamines groups, and the difference was statistically significant. The rate of severe drying of nasal mucosa was higher, but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion:Endonasal phototherapy can improve the symptoms of TNSS, RQLQ and palate itching score in patients, and the safety is also confirmed.Patients who are not satisfied with symptom relief may choose to use it.

Abstract
The class III deacetylase sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), a member of the sirtuin family proteins, plays a key role in many types of cancers including colorectal cancer (CRC). Here we report that SIRT1 suppressed CRC metastasis in vitro and in vivo as a negative regulator for miR-15b-5p transcription. Mechanistically, SIRT1 impaired regulatory effects of activator protein (AP-1) on miR-15b-5p trans-activation through deacetylation of AP-1. Importantly, acyl-CoA oxidase 1 (ACOX1), a key enzyme of the fatty acid oxidation (FAO) pathway, was found as a direct target for miR-15b-5p. SIRT1 expression was positively correlated with ACOX1 expression in CRC cells and in xenografts. Moreover, ACOX1 overexpression attenuated the augmentation of migration and invasion of CRC cells by miR-15b-5p overexpression. In conclusion, our study demonstrated a functional role of the SIRT1/miR-15b-5p/ACOX1 axis in CRC metastasis and suggested a potential target for metastatic CRC therapy.

Abstract
Objective The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of electro-acupuncture (EA) and pregabalin on cognition impairment induced by chronic trigeminal neuralgia (TN) in rats. Design Controlled animal study. Setting Department of Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine and Critical Care Medicine, Aviation General Hospital of China Medical University. Subjects Forty adult male Sprague Dawley rats. Methods Rats were randomly divided into four groups. The TN model was induced by administration of cobra venom to the left infraorbital nerve. On postoperative day 14, either EA or pregabalin was administered, free behavioral activities were observed. Spatial learning and memory abilities were determined in the Morris water maze. The ultrastructural alterations of the Gasserian ganglion, medulla oblongata and hippocampus were examined by electron microscopy. The changes on long-term potentiation were investigated. Results After treatment, the exploratory behavior increased and the grooming behavior decreased (P<0.05) for the EA group and pregabalin group compared with the cobra venom group; moreover, demyelination of neurons in Gasserian ganglion and medulla oblongata was reversed. The number of platform site crossings, the average percentages of time in the target quadrant and the field excitatory postsynaptic potential slopes increased (P<0.05) in the EA group compared to the cobra venom group. However, the pregabalin group showed no differences compared to the cobra venom group (P>0.05). Vacuolar degeneration in the hippocampal neurons was mild in the EA group, while it was severe in the pregabalin group. Conclusion EA and pregabalin could alleviate TN induced by cobra venom. EA could also inhibit the cognition deficit induced by TN, while pregabalin could not.

Abstract
Although appropriate exercise is beneficial for enhancing brain functions, high-intensity exercise (HIE)-induced cognitive dysfunction is causing more and more concerns nowadays. In the present study, we observed the effects of high-intensity treadmill running on the spatial learning of the adult Sprague Dawley male rats in Y-maze (n = 16 per group), and investigated its possible electrophysiological and molecular mechanisms by examining in vivo hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP), central inflammatory responses, and JNK/p38/ERK signal pathway. The Y-maze active avoidance test showed that high-intensity treadmill running impaired spatial learning ability of rats, with increased error times and prolonged training time in recognizing safety condition. Associated with the cognitive dysfunction, the induction and maintenance of hippocampal LTP were also impaired by the HIE. Furthermore, accompanied by elevated levels of inflammatory factors IL-1β, TNF-α, and iNOS, overactivation of microglia and astrocytes was also found in the CA1 region of hippocampus in the excessive exercise group, indicating an inflammatory response induced by HIE. In addition, Western blot assay showed that the phosphorylation of JNK/p38/ERK proteins was enhanced in the exercise group. These results suggest that exercise stress-induced neuronal inflammatory responses in the hippocampus are associated with HIE-induced cognitive deficits, which may be involved in the upregulation of the JNK/p38/ERK pathway. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract
Four cultivars of maize straw were burned under flaming and smoldering conditions. Smoke samples were colleted and analyzed by GC/MS and GC/C/IRMS to determine molecular and stable carbon isotopic compositions of n-alkanoic acids in them. The results showed that n-alkanoic acids in flaming smoke were composed of C7 to C34, with a mean total content of 13895.0 mg·kg-1. The average ratio values of the content for homologues with lower carbon number (≤C16) to that for ones with higher carbon number (>C16) (L/H), C18/C16, C24/C16, C24/C18, and C24/(C22+C26) (CAR) were 1.1, 0.33, 0.17, 0.50, and 1.2, respectively. Moreover, the acids exhibited a bimodal profile with peaks at C16 and C24, respectively. They had evident even to odd carbon number predominance (mean CPI: 4.5). In smoldering smoke the acids were consisted of C6 to C34, with an average total content of 50183.7 mg·kg-1. The mean ratios of L/H, C18/C16, C24/C16, C24/C18, and CAR were 1.3, 0.33, 0.20, 0.60, and 1.6, respectively. In addition, the homologues had the same distribution pattern as in flaming smoke and even to odd carbon number predominance (mean CPI=6.1). The mean carbon isotopic ratio (δ13 C) values for individual n-alkanoic acids (C14 to C26) in flaming smoke ranged from -21.0‰ to -24.8‰, the overall average of which was -23.5‰. The difference between mean δ13 C values of n-fatty acids in flaming smoke and the straw (Δ13 C) was -0.7‰. In smoldering smoke, the mean δ13 C values for the compounds varied from -21.8‰ to -25.4‰, with an overall average of -23.3‰. The Δ13 C value was up to -0.5‰. The molecular and carbon isotopic compositions of n-alkanoic acids in smoke were significantly different from those in straw matter. L/H, C24/C16, C24/C18, CAR, and δ13 C might be useful proxies to discriminate the organic pollutants in atmospheric aerosols derived from maize straw combustion.

Abstract
To investigate the effects of carbomer eye drops (CED) during long-time wearing of overnight orthokeratology lens of adolescents with myopia, 260 teenagers with myopia treated in the Henan Provincial Peoples Hospital from June 2012 to August 2014 and followed-up for more than 2 years were enrolled. All the patients underwent regular fitting of orthokeratology lens. They were divided into a CED (Vidisic) group (130 cases, 260 eyes treated with CED) and rewetting drops (RD) (Baushe and Lomb) group (130 cases, 260 eyes treated with RD). The effects in the two groups were observed. The incidence of corneal epithelial defects one day, one week and one month after treatment of the CED group was lower than that of the RD group, and the difference was statistically significant (P less than 0.05); the tear break up time (TBUT) of the CED group was higher than that of the RD group at different time points, and the difference had statistical significance (P less than 0.05); the difference of the value of Schirmer I test between the two groups had no statistical significance (P>0.05). It is concluded that carbomer eye drops can stabilize tear film and protect and repair corneal epithelium during the wearing of orthokeratology lens.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the sublethal effects of the beta-cypermethrin on calling behavior and fecundity of a major fruit-boring pest of apple, Carposina sasakii Matsumura. The mating rate, fertility (total number of eggs laid per female), and adult longevity of adults were remarkably decreased as compared with that in control when the adults were exposed to 10% lethal concentrations (LC10) of beta-cypermethrin (LC10♀ × LC10♂), and the age-specific survival rate (lx) was also negatively affected by sublethal beta-cypermethrin especially for the LC10♀× LC10♂ mating combination. However, the age-specific fecundity (mx) was stimulated particularly in the combination of CK♀× LC10♂. Furthermore, the oviposition period was prolonged and the number of eggs was significantly increased for combinations of CK♀× LC10♂ and LC10♀× CK♂. In the mating experiments, males in control or LC10-beta-cypermethrin treatments preferred to mate with females in control. It might be because of lower calling rate of female survivors treated with sublethal beta-cypermethrin. Our data indicate that treatment of beta-cypermethrin had a sublethal effect on the development and production of C. sasakii, and their mating behavior changes in surviving adults that may contribute to assortative mating.

Abstract
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a rapidly growing health threat that has previously been associated with lipogenesis. The direct effect of endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) inhibition on the induction of lipogenesis has not been investigated in hepatocytes in vitro. The impact of activating transcription factor‑4 (ATF4) on the lipogenic pathway and hepatic insulin transduction in liver cells also requires further investigation. In the present study, the triglyceride (TG) content of HepG2 cells stimulated with fructose was investigated using a commercially available enzymatic assay, and the expression levels of lipogenesis‑associated factors were determined by western blotting and reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Notably, the TG content of HepG2 cells was increased following incubation with fructose, which was accompanied by ERS. 4‑Phenylbutyric acid, an inhibitor of ERS, lowered the TG content by reducing the mRNA expression levels of sterol regulatory element‑binding protein 1 (SREBP‑1c) and carbohydrate‑responsive element‑binding protein (ChREBP), and the protein expression levels of fatty acid synthase (FAS), acetyl‑CoA carboxylase (ACC) and stearoyl‑CoA desaturase‑1 (SCD‑1). Conversely, tunicamycin, which is an inducer of ERS, increased the TG content and stimulated the expression of the above lipogeneic markers. ATF4 deficiency relieved TG accumulation and decreased the mRNA expression levels of SREBP‑1c and ChREBP, and protein expression levels of FAS, ACC and SCD‑1 in fructose‑treated HepG2 cells. Conversely, ATF4 overexpression increased the TG content by upregulating the mRNA expression levels of SREBP‑1c and ChREBP and protein expression levels of FAS, ACC and SCD‑1. Inhibition of ERS was shown to protect HepG2 cells against fructose‑induced TG accumulation, whereas induction of ERS stimulated hepatic lipogenesis. As a downstream transcription factor of the unfolded protein response, a deficiency in ATF4 attenuates fructose‑induced lipogenesis; while an overexpression of ATF4 can induce TG accumulation through stimulating hepatic lipogenesis. The results of the present study suggested that ATF4 may exert various physiological roles in lipid metabolism depending on the nutrient composition. In addition, these results suggested that ATF4 has a role in regulating lipogenesis and in the development of NAFLD; thus ATF4 may be considered a therapeutic target for NAFLD.

Abstract
Steroidogenic factor-1 (Sf-1) (officially designated nuclear receptor subfamily 5 group A member 1 [NR5A1]) is a master regulator of steroidogenesis and reproduction in mammals. However, its function remains unclear in nonmammalian vertebrates. In the present study, we used immunohistochemistry to detect expression of Sf-1 in the steroidogenic cells, the interstitial, granulosa, and theca cells of the ovary, and the Leydig cells of the testis, in Nile tilapia. Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR associated protein 9 (Cas9) cleavage of sf-1 resulted in a high mutation rate in the F0 generation and a phenotype of gonadal dysgenesis and reduced steroidogenic cells in XX and XY fish. Sf-1 deficiency also resulted in decreased cytochrome P450, family 19, subfamily A, polypeptide 1a, forkhead box L2 expression, and serum estradiol-17β in XX fish. In XY fish, Sf-1 deficiency increased cytochrome P450, family 19, subfamily A, polypeptide 1a and forkhead box L2 expression but decreased cytochrome P450, family 11, subfamily B, polypeptide 2 expression and serum 11-ketotestosterone levels. 17α-methyltestosterone treatment successfully rescued the gonadal phenotype of Sf-1-deficient XY fish, as demonstrated by normal spermatogenesis and production of F1 mutants. In contrast, estradiol-17β treatment only partially rescued the gonadal phenotype of Sf-1-deficient XX fish, as demonstrated by the appearance of phase II oocytes. Furthermore, both sf-1(+/-) F1 XX and XY mutants developed as fertile males, although spermatogenesis was delayed and efferent duct formation was disordered. Our data suggest that Sf-1 is a major regulator of steroidogenesis and reproduction in fish, as it is in mammals. Sf-1 deficiency resulted in gonadal dysgenesis and feminization of XY gonads. However, unlike in mammals, Sf-1 deficiency also resulted in female to male sex reversal in 8.1% of F0 and 92.1% of sf-1(+/-) F1 in XX fish.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of renal clearance on serum trough concentration of vancomycin in elderly patients with severe pneumonia. METHODS This was a prospective non-interventional study. Forty-two elderly patients with severe pneumonia and normal level of serum creatinine were enrolled from November 2013 to October 2014. The patients included 25 males and 17 females, aged 60-83 years (median 74 years). The renal clearance was measured, and the vancomycin regimen and rate of serum trough concentration achieving guideline-recommended target of 15-20 mg/L were investigated. The factors influencing trough concentration of vancomycin were analyzed using the general linear model. RESULTS The vancomycin regimens were 1 g/ 12 h (17 cases), 0.5 g/8 h (14 cases) and 0.5 g/12 h (11 cases), and their median and range of serum concentrations were 14.9(2.4-28.5)mg/L, 16.2(2.8-27.8)mg/L and 11.6 (5.9-19.9) mg/L, respectively. The guideline-recommended target trough concentration of 15-20 mg/L was reached in only 10 patients, while trough concentration lower than 15 mg/L was found in 22 patients and higher than 20 mg/L in 10 patients. General linear model analysis showed that creatinine clearance rate(CCR) and dose of vancomycin per kilogram of body weight per day were independent influencing factors for trough concentration (both P<0.05). There were 8 patients with CCR≥130 ml·min(-1)·(1.73 m(2))(-1) (augmented renal clearance), 22 patients with 70≤CCR<130 ml·min(-1)·(1.73 m(2))(-1) and 12 patients with CCR<70 ml·min(-1)·(1.73 m(2))(-1,) and vancomycin trough concentration below 15 mg/L was found in 7, 11 and 4 patients, respectively. CONCLUSION CCR was an independent influencing factor for trough concentration of vancomycin, and augmented renal clearance increased the risk of subtherapeutic trough concentration of vancomycin.

Abstract
The carnivorous whelk Rapana venosa is regarded as a biological invader with strong ecological fitness in the United States, Argentina, France and other countries. R. venosa may seriously damage bivalve resources. Nonetheless, in China, R. venosa is an important commercial species. Larval development, especially metamorphosis, influences the natural population and industrial breeding. However, there are few studies on the early development of R. venosa, and our understanding is further limited by a lack of genomic information. In this study, de novo sequencing was performed to obtain a comprehensive transcriptome profile during early development. A Hi-seq 2500 sequencing run produced 148,737,902 raw reads that were assembled into 1,137,556 unigenes (average length of 619 nucleotides, of which 49,673 could be annotated). The unigenes were assigned to biological processes and functions after annotation in Gene Ontology, eukaryotic Ortholog Groups and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes. We also identified 93,196 simple sequence repeats among the unigenes. Six unique sequences associated with neuroendocrine function were analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR. Our data represent the first comprehensive transcriptomic resource for R. venosa. Functional annotation of the unigenes involved in various biological processes could stimulate research on the mechanisms of early development in this species. Understanding the mechanism of early development and metamorphosis would benefit antifouling research and aquaculture of R. venosa.
