Abstract
Root caries caused by cariogenic bacteria are a burden on a large number of individuals worldwide, especially the elderly. Applying a protective coating to exposed root surfaces has the potential to inhibit the development of caries, thus preserving natural teeth. This study aimed to develop a novel antibacterial coating to combat root caries and evaluate its effectiveness using the antibacterial monomer dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate (DMAHDM). DMAHDM was synthesized and incorporated into a resin consisting of 55.8% urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) and 44.2% TEG-DVBE (UV) at a 10% mass fraction of glass filler. Multiple concentrations of DMAHDM were tested for their impact on the resin's mechanical and physical properties. S. mutans biofilms grown on resin disks were analyzed for antibacterial efficacy. Cytotoxicity was assessed against human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs). The results showed an 8-log reduction in colony-forming units (CFUs) against S. mutans biofilm (mean ± sd; n = 6) (p < 0.05) when 5% DMAHDM was incorporated into the UV resin. There was a 90% reduction in metabolic activity and lactic acid production. A low level of cytotoxicity against HGF was observed without compromising the physical and mechanical properties of the resin. This coating material demonstrated promising physical properties, potent antibacterial effects, and low toxicity, suggesting its potential to protect exposed roots from caries in various dental procedures and among elderly individuals with gingival recession.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This in vitro study was accomplished to demonstrate the antibacterial efficacy of BioMin F and NovaMin toothpastes against the recently-isolated Streptococcus Mutans in comparison with a commonly used fluoride toothpaste. MATERIALS AND METHODS Dental plaque collection method was adopted to isolate streptococcus mutans in children with dental caries. Then an ideal Streptococcus Mutans colony was incubated in 20 Petri dishes that contained Mueller-Hinton medium. Each dish had 3 wells; one well for each toothpaste (BioMin F, NovMin, and Signal) to perform the agar diffusion test. After incubating for 24 hours, the inhabitation zone around each well of each Petri dish was noticed and measured. Statistical Analysis was achieved using a statistical package, SPSS Windows version 17, by applying Kruskal-Wallis with Mann-Whitney U test (α = 0.05). RESULTS BioMin F showed the highest mean of inhibition zone diameter (x ¯ = 2.67 mm) in compared with NovaMin and Signal (x ¯ = 0.39 mm andx ¯ = 2.19 mm; p < 0.001 in each pairwise comparison). CONCLUSION BioMin F toothpaste showed superior antibacterial effect against Streptococcus mutans to Signal and NovaMin toothpastes. Novamin showed the lowest antibacterial effect. This in vitro study suggests that BioMin F toothpaste shows encouraging potential to be recommended as a preventive measure to reduce the caries risk.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Silver nanoparticle was developed to overcome the drawback of silver diamine fluoride. However, evidence is limited, especially in root caries. The aim of this study was to evaluate the remineralization effect of silver nanoparticles on root caries. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-five root human dentin slices size 5 × 5 mm2 from patients aged over 60 years old were immersed in demineralized solution to create artificial caries. Specimens were allocated into five groups according to the remineralizing agents: silver diamine fluoride (SDF), silver nanoparticles solution (AgNPs), silver nanoparticle solution followed by sodium fluoride varnish (AgNPs+NaF), sodium fluoride varnish (NaF), and tap water. After 8 days of pH-cycling challenge, the microhardness test, lesion depth evaluation, dentin surface morphology, and elemental analysis were performed. Data was analysed using F-test One-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's post hoc test and paired T-test. RESULTS All test groups demonstrated a significantly higher microhardness value and lower lesion depth compared with the control group. AgNPs+NaF and NaF-treated groups showed lower efficacy than SDF. Crystal precipitation was presented in all groups composed of silver. CONCLUSION Addition of fluoride varnish did not benefit for silver nanoparticles in preventing further demineralization. SDF provides the highest effectiveness in elderly root carious dentin.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Silver fluoride (SF) is a preventive and therapeutic option for dental pathological processes involving structural alterations of the hard tissues, either during their formation or those caused by caries or other pathological reasons. This study aimed to compare the biological properties of two commercial SF products, one of them with ammonium (Riva Star; SDF) and the other ammonium-free (Riva Star Aqua; AgF), both with or without potassium iodide (KI), by the assessment of the cytotoxicity of the materials' eluates. METHODS Human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) were obtained from healthy 18-23-year-old donors. Three dilutions were prepared for the tested materials (0.005%, 0.0005%, and 0.0001%). The following groups were assessed: (AgF, AgF+KI, SDF, SDF+KI, KI, negative control). A series of cytocompatibility assays were performed: MTT assay, IC50 assay, wound healing (migration) assay, cell cytoskeleton staining, analysis of cell apoptosis and necrosis, and reactive oxygen species production. The normality in the distribution of the data was previously confirmed via a Q-Q plot. Statistical significance was tested using one way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test. RESULTS The incorporation of KI improved the cytocompatibility of both SF products in terms of viability, migration, morphology, apoptosis, and reactive oxygen species production. This difference was higher in the AgF group. The lowest dilutions of SF+KI and AgF+KI showed a similar cytocompatibility to that of the control group (MTT assay (p > 0.05 after 24, 48, and 72 h of culture); migration assay (p > 0.05 after 24, 48, and 72 h of culture); reactive oxygen species production (p > 0.05 after 72 h of culture). SIGNIFICANCE Riva Star Aqua shows lower cytotoxicity than Riva Star on hDPSCs. It can be considered as a good alternative in the conservative treatment of dental caries and in the preservation and remineralisation of viable dentine tissue.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Caredyne ZIF-C is a novel, capsule-mixed zinc-containing prototype glass ionomer cement (GIC). Zinc ions are reported to inhibit root dentin demineralization, dentin collagen degradation, bacterial growth, acid production, and in vitro bacterial biofilm formation. However, the effectiveness of GICs against initial root caries lesions is unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of GICs, especially the new zinc-containing Caredyne ZIF-C GIC, as tooth-coating materials in patients with initial active root caries. Materials and Methods: A total of 58 lesions in 47 older adults (age > 65 years) were randomly allocated to one of the following three groups: Caredyne ZIF-C, Fuji VII (a conventional GIC), and sodium fluoride (NaF). All the lesions were treated with the assigned materials without removing the infected dentin, and the rates of dental plaque attachment and coating material fall-out were evaluated after 3, 6, and 12 months. The failure rate was defined as the number of teeth that needed restoration due to caries progression. Results: The plaque attachment rates tended to be lower in the material-coated root surfaces than in the healthy exposed root surfaces after 3, 6, and 12 months, although the differences among the three groups were not significant. Moreover, the coating material fall-out rate tended to be lower in the Caredyne ZIF-C group than in the Fuji VII group. There was no significant difference in the failure rate among the three groups at the 12 months mark. Conclusions: Though this pilot study offers a new direction for suppressing the progression of initial active root caries by controlling plaque attachment using GICs including Caredyne ZIF-C, clinical studies with a larger sample size are needed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) has been shown to be highly effective against caries, in particular for arresting root surface caries and for dentine caries in primary teeth. SDF may complement fluoride varnish routines for treatment of root caries in nursing home residents. The aim of this randomised, single-blinded, placebo-controlled trial was to evaluate the additive effect of a single annual application of SDF for prevention and treatment of incipient root caries in older adult nursing home residents. METHOD Four hundred older adult nursing home residents (≥70 years old) with at least one exposed root surface (on teeth 15, 14, 13, 23, 24, or 25) were identified during routine dental examination visits in the domiciliary dental care setting. Eligible patients, who were able to understand the implication of consenting to the study, were invited to participate. Their cleaned root surfaces were randomly allocated to treatment with SDF (Advantage Arrest Silver Diamine Fluoride 38%, Advantage Arrest, LLC, Redmond, OR 97756, USA, Lot 16 152) or with placebo (tap water), each for 1 minute. RESULTS Of the 400 eligible individuals, 42 declined to participate and two forms were destroyed. The remaining 356 participants (89.0%; mean age 87.7 years) were randomly allocated, with 174 going to the SDF group and 182 to the placebo group. At 1 year, 273 participants (76.7%) were available for assessment: 135 in the SDF group and 138 in the placebo group. By that time, 109 individuals (39.9%) demonstrated root caries progression or regression. Among those 118 (16.7%) of the 708 included root surfaces had developed caries There were no statistically significant differences in the primary outcome related to treatment with SDF or placebo, at either patient or root surface level. CONCLUSION Based on the finding of this clinical trial, it is concluded that a single SDF application to complement a risk-based preventive programme including fluoride varnish applications did not have a statistically significant additional preventive effect on root caries development in a group of older adult nursing home residents with limited caries activity and cognitive capacity to cooperate in oral care activities.

Abstract
When caring for the oral health of frail and functionally dependent older adults, it is important to understand their general health and oral health problems to make a diagnosis. There are multiple treatment strategies available to care for their needs; many may not be evidence based. Dental treatment planning for older adults is as much art as science and requires clinicians to understand how patients are functioning in their environments and how oral health care fits into their needs and lifestyle. This article discusses a variety of treatment planning techniques and illustrates the problem with a longitudinal case history.

Abstract
The world’s population is aging. Older adults are at risk for multiple chronic medical problems as they age. The management of these diseases requires these people to take a variety of medications, which may have undesired side effects. These medical issues can impact oral healthcare and result in a precipitous decline in oral health. A standardized teaching model has been developed to help novice dental practitioners learn how to access and treat oral health problems in older adults. This model is called rapid oral health deterioration (ROHD) risk assessment. The model has four steps for assessment and four categories of risk. This paper describes the components of the ROHD risk assessment, and how it can be used to prevent, diagnose and treat ROHD among older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bioadhesion and surface interactions on enamel are of essential relevance for initiation, progression and prevention of caries and erosions. Salivary proteins on and within initial carious and erosive lesions can facilitate or aggravate de- and remineralization. This applies for the pellicle layer, the subsurface pellicle and for proteins within initial carious lesions. Little is known about these proteinaceous structures related to initial caries and erosion. Accordingly, there is a considerable demand for an understanding of the underlying processes occurring at the interface between the tooth surface and the oral cavity in order to develop novel agents that limit and modulate caries and erosion. Objectives and findings: The present paper depicts the current knowledge of the processes occurring at the interface of the tooth surface and the oral fluids. Proteinaceous layers on dental hard tissues can prevent or aggravate demineralization processes, whereas proteins within initial erosive or carious lesions might hinder remineralization considerably and restrict the entry of ions into lesions. CONCLUSIONS Despite the fact that organic-inorganic surface interactions are of essential relevance for de- and remineralization processes at the tooth surface, there is limited knowledge on these clinically relevant phenomena. Accordingly, intensive research is necessary to develop new approaches in preventive dentistry.

Abstract
Objective. To determine the effects of preirradiation fluoride treatments on the Knoop hardness of dentin. Materials and Methods. Human posterior teeth mounted into acrylic resin molds were polished with silicon carbide (SiC) abrasives and 3-micron diamond paste. The Knoop hardness of dentin was measured with a Leco hardness instrument. The teeth were divided into groups of ten teeth per group as follows: no treatment (control), treatment with silver diamine fluoride (SDF), MI varnish (MI), and cavity shield (CS). The teeth were exposed to 2 Gy of daily radiation for six weeks using an X-Rad 320ix biological irradiator. Hardness was measured weekly, before, during, and after irradiation. The teeth were stored in artificial saliva at 37oC between radiation treatments. Results. In preirradiation dentin, a Knoop hardness value of 58.8 (14.1) KHN was obtained. Treatment with SDF significantly increased KHN before irradiation. Immediately after radiation treatment, hardness was significantly reduced in all experimental groups. Postirradiation fluoride treatments increased the hardness of dentin to varying degrees. Conclusions. Preirradiation fluoride treatment does not provide protection from decreases in the hardness of dentin. Treatment of teeth with fluoride formulations after radiation progressively restores the hardness of dentin to different degrees.

Abstract
Fluoride-containing toothpaste is daily used in toothbrush. Some compounds derived from natural herbs that have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities has attracted increasing attention as potential supplements for the control of oral diseases. In this paper, a natural product mixture (NPM-8) containing eight herbs extracts was added to toothpaste, and its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects were investigated. The results showed that NPM-8-containing toothpaste exhibited superior and faster inhibitory and bactericidal effects against S. mutans, S. sanguinis and P. gingivalis than that of the NPM-8-free toothpaste. NPM-8-containing toothpaste significantly reduced the biomass of single-species or three-species biofilms. The cytotoxicity of the NPM-8-containing toothpaste was similar to that of the conventional fluoride toothpaste and CHX. The NPM-8-containing toothpaste could significantly inhibit IL-1β and IL-6 production in HGE cells and exhibited a better anti-inflammatory effect than that of the NPM-8-free toothpaste. In conclusion, NPM-8-containing fluoride toothpaste is superior to conventional fluoride toothpaste in regard to their antibacterial, antibiofilm, and anti-inflammatory properties. NPM-8-containing toothpaste also has good biocompatibility and is safe for daily use. It indicates that NPM-8 is a promising natural product mixture in oral health.

Abstract
Dental caries, as a common oral infectious disease, is a worldwide public health issue. Oral biofilms are the main cause of dental caries. Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) is well recognized as the major causative factor of dental caries within oral biofilms. In addition to mechanical removal such as tooth brushing and flossing, the topical application of antimicrobial agents is necessarily adjuvant to the control of caries particularly for high-risk populations. The mainstay antimicrobial agents for caries such as chlorhexidine have limitations including taste confusions, mucosal soreness, tooth discoloration, and disruption of an oral microbial equilibrium. Antimicrobial small molecules are promising in the control of S. mutans due to good antimicrobial activity, good selectivity, and low toxicity. In this paper, we discussed the application of antimicrobial small molecules to the control of S. mutans, with a particular focus on the identification and development of active compounds and their modes of action against the growth and virulence of S. mutans.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this in vitro study was to compare the caries-preventive effect of various high fluoride- and calcium-containing caries-preventive agents (> 22.000 ppm F- [ppm]) in adjunct to use of regular (1450 ppm) or high (5000 ppm) fluoride toothpaste on sound as well as demineralized enamel. MATERIALS AND METHODS Bovine enamel specimens (n = 276; 5 mm × 3.5 mm × 3 mm) having one sound surface [ST] and one artificial caries lesion [DT] were randomly allocated to 12 groups. Interventions before pH-cycling were no intervention ([SC1/SC5]), application of varnishes/solutions containing NaF (22,600 ppm; Duraphat [NaF1/NaF5]); NaF + tricalcium phosphate (22,600 ppm; Clinpro White Varnish [TCP1/TCP5]); NaF + CPP-ACP (22,600 ppm; MI Varnish [CPP1/CPP5]); silver diammine fluoride (35,400 ppm; Cariestop 30%[SDF1/SDF5]); and NaF + calcium fluoride (45,200 ppm; Biophat[CaF1/CaF5]). During pH-cycling (28 days, 6 × 120 min demineralization/day) half of the specimens in each group were brushed (10 s; 2 × /day) with either 1,450 (NaF; named, e.g., TCP1) or 5,000 ppm (NaF; e.g., TCP5) dentifrice slurry. Differences in integrated mineral loss (∆∆Z) and lesion depth (∆LD) were calculated between values after initial demineralization and after pH-cycling using transversal microradiography. RESULTS After pH-cycling, SC1/SC5 showed significantly increased ∆ZDT/LDDT values, indicating further demineralization (p < 0.05; paired t-test). Decreased ∆ZDT values, indicating non-significant remineralization, could only be observed in CaF1/CaF5 (p > 0.05; paired t-test). Additional use of all varnishes/solutions significantly decreased ∆∆ZDT/∆∆ZST and ∆LDDT/∆LDST compared to SC1/SC5 (p < 0.05;ANCOVA). Between 1450 and 5000 ppm dentifrices, a significant difference in ∆∆ZDT/∆∆ZST and ∆LDDT/∆LDST could only be observed for SC1/SC5 (p < 0.05; ANCOVA). CONCLUSION Under the conditions chosen, all fluoride varnishes/solutions significantly reduced demineralization. Furthermore, a significant dose-response characteristic for fluoride varnishes could be revealed. However, no additional benefit could be observed, when varnishes were combined with high fluoride instead of regular fluoride dentifrices. CLINICAL RELEVANCE For children and adolescents with high caries risks varnishes containing more than 22,600 ppm should be further investigated, as they offered higher caries-preventive effects in vitro. Furthermore, there seems to be no difference in the demineralization-inhibitory capacity of fluoride varnishes when used in combination with either standard or highly fluoridated dentifrices.

Abstract
This study aimed to assess the effect of biomodification before adhesive procedures on the tooth-restoration interface of class V restorations located in caries-simulated vs. sound dentin, and the quality of dentin surface by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS). Class V cavities located on cervical dentin were prepared on the buccal surfaces of extracted human molars under the simulation of intratubular fluid flow. Two dentin types, i.e., sound and demineralized by formic-acid, were biomodified with 1% riboflavin and calcium phosphate (CaP) prior to the application of a universal adhesive (Clearfil Universal Bond) in etch and rinse or self-etch mode, and a conventional micro hybrid composite (Clearfil APX). Restorations were subjected to thermo mechanical fatigue test and percentages of continuous margins (% CM) before/after fatigue were compared. Bio modification of dentin surfaces at the molecular level was analyzed by Time-of-Flight Secondary Mass Spectometry (ToF-SIMS). % CM were still significantly higher in tooth-restoration interfaces on sound dentin. Meanwhile, biomodification with riboflavin and CaP had no detrimental effect on adhesion and in carious dentin, it improved the % CM both before and after loading. Etching carious dentin with phosphoric acid provided with the lowest results, leading even to restoration loss. The presence of molecule fragments of riboflavin and CaP were detected by ToF-SIMS, evidencing dentin biomodification. The adhesive interface involving carious dentin could be improved by the use of a collagen crosslinker and CaP prior to adhesive procedures.

Abstract
BioUnion filler is a bioactive glass particle that releases Zn2+ in an acidic environment. In this study, the ion release, antibacterial, and physical properties of a glass ionomer cement (GIC) incorporating BioUnion filler (CA) were assessed in vitro. The concentration of Zn2+ released from CA into acetic acid was higher than that released into water and its minimum inhibitory concentrations against six oral bacterial species. Moreover, the concentration of Zn2+-release was maintained during all the seven times it was exposed to acetic acid. Compared to a conventional cement and resin composite, CA significantly inhibited the growth of oral bacteria and hindered their adhesion on the material surface. Thus, our study outcomes show that the release of Zn2+ from CA in the acidic environment does not affect its compressive strength.

Abstract
Aim This systematic review aimed to critically summarise the results of clinical studies investigating agents able to: stop the progression of carious lesions; stop the development of new root carious lesions; preserve the vitality of the infected dental tissues; and increase the surface hardness or change of surface texture, in middle-age and older adults.Methods PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched systematically, following PRISMA guidelines. Clinical trials published from 2011 to 2020 (March) were included. This systematic review is registered in the PROSPERO database (CRD42018104399). Languages were restricted to English.Results Thirteen of 312 studies were eligible for this review. Eight agents were identified in the studies and their efficacy was assessed using different methods. The agents that presented valuable results on preventing or arresting root caries were 38% silver diamine fluoride (SDF), arginine-containing toothpaste and high-fluoride toothpastes.Conclusions Based on the selected studies' findings, annual applications of 38% SDF could be the most effective treatment for root caries in older adults. In addition, the daily use of a 1.5% arginine toothpaste or a high-fluoride toothpaste could also be recommended. More research on root caries-specific diagnostic methods, especially at very early stages, is necessary.

Abstract
Caries preventive varnishes containing only fluoride might differ from those containing a combination of fluoride and antimicrobial components in terms of mineralization properties and their impact on the cariogenic biofilm. We compared a fluoride and a fluoride + chlorhexidine (CHX)/cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) varnish on root caries formation in vitro. One hundred bovine root dentin samples were allocated to five groups (n = 20/group): (1) 7700 ppm fluoride varnish (Fluorprotector S (F)), (2) experimental placebo varnish for F (F-P), (3) 1400 ppm fluoride + 0.3% CHX/0.5% CPC varnish (Cervitec F (CF)), (4) experimental placebo varnish for CF (CF-P), (5) untreated control. Cariogenic challenge was provided using a multi-station, continuous-culture 3-species (Streptococcus mutans (SM), Lactobacillus rhamnosus (LR), Actinomyces naeslundii (AN)) biofilm model for 10 days. Mineral loss (ΔZ) was evaluated using transversal microradiography and bacterial counts in the biofilm assessed as colony-forming units. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and confocal microscopy were performed to assess the three-dimensional biofilm architecture. Mean ± SD (vol% × μm) ΔZ was significantly lower for F (9133 ± 758) and CF (9835 ± 1677) compared to control (11362 ± 919) (p < 0.05), without significant differences between F and CF. SM counts were significantly lower and LR counts significantly higher in F- and CF-biofilms compared to control. AN counts were significantly higher in the F-biofilms than in all other groups. According to FISH, SM and LR invaded dentinal tubules only in the control-group. In the CF-group, the basal biofilm layer did not contain SM and AN. Both F and CF varnishes had similar caries-preventive effects and a considerable impact on biofilm structure and composition.

Abstract
Background: The side effects of present antimicrobials like chlorhexidine (CHX) and the emergence of drug resistance necessitate the development of alternative agents to control dental caries. Aim: This study developed a novel small molecule, namely II-6s, and investigated its antimicrobial activities against common oral streptococci associated with dental caries. Methods: The susceptibility of streptococci to II-6s was evaluated by the microdilution method, time-kill assay and scanning electron microscopy. The exopolysaccharides, dead/live bacteria and bacterial composition of the II-6s-treated Streptococcus mutans/Streptococcus gordonii/Streptococcus sanguinis 3-species biofilms were analyzed by confocal laser scanning microscopy, fluorescent in situ hybridization and quantitative PCR. The anti-demineralization effect and cytotoxicity of II-6s were evaluated by transverse microradiography and CCK-8 assay, respectively. Repeated exposure of S. mutans to II-6s was performed to assess if II-6s could induce drug resistance. Results: II-6s exhibited antimicrobial activity similar to CHX against S. mutans, S. gordonii and S. sanguinis and significantly inhibited exopolysaccharides production, live bacteria and the demineralizing capability of the 3-species streptococcal biofilms. Besides, II-6s showed reduced cytotoxicity relative to CHX and did not induce drug resistance in S. mutans after 15 passages. Conclusion: - II-6s may serve as a promising part of a successful caries management plan.

Abstract
When caring for the oral health of frail and functionally dependent older adults, it is important to understand their general health and oral health problems to make a diagnosis. There are multiple treatment strategies available to care for their needs; many may not be evidence based. Dental treatment planning for older adults is as much art as science and requires clinicians to understand how patients are functioning in their environments and how oral health care fits into their needs and lifestyle. This article discusses a variety of treatment planning techniques and illustrates the problem with a longitudinal case history.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this in vitro study was to compare the demineralization inhibitory effect of gels/solutions used in combination with either standard or highly fluoridated dentifrices on sound dentin as well as on artificial dentin caries-like lesions. METHODS Bovine dentin specimens (n = 240) with two different surfaces each (sound [ST] and artificial caries lesion [DT]) were prepared and randomly allocated to twelve groups. Weekly interventions during pH-cycling (28 days, 6 × 120 min demineralization/day) were: the application of gels/solutions containing amine fluoride/sodium fluoride (12,500 ppm F [ppm]; pH = 4.4; AmF); NaF (12,500 ppm; pH = 6.6; NaF1); NaF (12,500 ppm; pH = 6.3; NaF2); silver diamine fluoride (14,200 ppm; pH = 8.7; SDF); acidulated phosphate fluoride (12,500 ppm; pH = 3.8; APF), and no intervention (standard control; S). Furthermore, half of the specimens in each group were brushed (10 s; twice per day) with dentifrice slurries containing either 1,450 ppm (e.g., AmF1450) or 5,000 ppm (e.g., AmF5000). Differences in integrated mineral loss (ΔΔZ) and lesion depth (ΔLD) were calculated between values before and after pH-cycling using transversal microradiography. RESULTS After pH-cycling Ss showed significantly increased ΔZDT and LDDT values, indicating further demineralization. In contrast, except for one, all groups including fluoride gels/solutions showed significantly decreased ΔZDT values. Additional use of most fluoride gels/solutions significantly enhanced mineral gain, mainly in the surface area; however, acidic gels/solutions seemed to have negative effects on lesion depths. SIGNIFICANCE Under the present pH-cycling conditions the highly fluoridated dentifrice significantly reduced caries progression and additional application of nearly all of the fluoride gels/solutions resulted in remineralization. However, there was no difference in the remineralizing capacity of fluoride gels/solutions when used in combination with either standard or highly fluoridated dentifrices.

Abstract
This study compared the effect of experimental polymer-based desensitizers with NaF and oxalic acid (OA) for preventing root demineralization via observation using micro-CT. Bovine root dentin surfaces were treated with coating materials: no treatment; MS0(+) (MS Coat One®); MS3000(+) (MS Coat®); MS0(-); MS3000(-); MS7000(+/-); fluoride gel (NaF9000). MS; MS polymer, 0-7000; NaF concentrations, (+/-); OA. The specimens were scanned using micro-CT before and after demineralization (pH4.5, 10 h). Following this, the mean mineral loss (ML) after demineralization was calculated, and the specimens were observed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The ML values of MS3000(+), MS7000(-), MS7000(+) and NaF9000 were significantly lower than the other groups (p<0.05). Under an SEM, a membrane structure was observed to have formed on the dentin surface in the presence of the MS, fluoride, and OA. The experimental polymer-based desensitizer with oxalic acid and a high concentration of fluoride is effective for preventing root demineralization.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Root caries has gained much attention in the last few years. As the world's population is ageing and people currently tend to retain more teeth compared with older generations, there is an increased prevalence of periodontal disease and gingival recession, which may accelerate the onset of root caries. OBJECTIVE This review aims to summarise recent findings related to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of root caries. MATERIALS AND METHODS MEDLINE (OVID) and Scopus (Elsevier) searches were performed to identify and discuss articles that address the pathogenicity and clinical management of root caries. RESULTS Root caries is a multifactorial disease. Cariogenic species involved in root caries are less dependent on carbohydrates since collagen degradation inside the dentinal tubules can provide nutrients and microcavities for the invading microorganisms. Furthermore, the root surface has fewer minerals in comparison with enamel, which may accelerate the onset of demineralisation. Root caries could be prevented by patient education, modification of risk factors, and the use of in-office and home remineralisation tools. The use of non-invasive approaches to control root caries is recommended, as the survival rate of root caries restorations is poor. When plaque control is impossible and a deep/large cavity is present, glass ionomer or resin-based restorations can be placed. CONCLUSION The assessment of root carious lesions is critical to determine the lesion activity and the required intervention. Dental practitioners should also be aware of different prevention and treatment approaches to design optimum oral health care for root caries-affected patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Traditionally, patients are encouraged to attend dental recall appointments at regular 6-month intervals, irrespective of their risk of developing dental disease. Stakeholders lack evidence of the relative effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of different recall strategies and the optimal recall interval for maintenance of oral health. OBJECTIVES To test effectiveness and assess the cost-benefit of different dental recall intervals over a 4-year period. DESIGN Multicentre, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial with blinded clinical outcome assessment at 4 years and a within-trial cost-benefit analysis. NHS and participant perspective costs were combined with benefits estimated from a general population discrete choice experiment. A two-stratum trial design was used, with participants randomised to the 24-month interval if the recruiting dentist considered them clinically suitable. Participants ineligible for 24-month recall were randomised to a risk-based or 6-month recall interval. SETTING UK primary care dental practices. PARTICIPANTS Adult, dentate, NHS patients who had visited their dentist in the previous 2 years. INTERVENTIONS Participants were randomised to attend for a dental check-up at one of three dental recall intervals: 6-month, risk-based or 24-month recall. MAIN OUTCOMES Clinical - gingival bleeding on probing; patient - oral health-related quality of life; economic - three analysis frameworks: (1) incremental cost per quality-adjusted life-year gained, (2) incremental net (societal) benefit and (3) incremental net (dental health) benefit. RESULTS A total of 2372 participants were recruited from 51 dental practices; 648 participants were eligible for the 24-month recall stratum and 1724 participants were ineligible. There was no evidence of a significant difference in the mean percentage of sites with gingival bleeding between intervention arms in any comparison. For the eligible for 24-month recall stratum: the 24-month (n = 138) versus 6-month group (n = 135) had an adjusted mean difference of -0.91 (95% confidence interval -5.02 to 3.20); the risk-based (n = 143) versus 6-month group had an adjusted mean difference of -0.98 (95% confidence interval -5.05 to 3.09); the 24-month versus risk-based group had an adjusted mean difference of 0.07 (95% confidence interval -3.99 to 4.12). For the overall sample, the risk-based (n = 749) versus 6-month (n = 737) adjusted mean difference was 0.78 (95% confidence interval -1.17 to 2.72). There was no evidence of a difference in oral health-related quality of life between intervention arms in any comparison. For the economic evaluation, under framework 1 (cost per quality-adjusted life-year) the results were highly uncertain, and it was not possible to identify the optimal recall strategy. Under framework 2 (net societal benefit), 6-month recalls were the most efficient strategy with a probability of positive net benefit ranging from 78% to 100% across the eligible and combined strata, with findings driven by the high value placed on more frequent recall services in the discrete choice experiment. Under framework 3 (net dental health benefit), 24-month recalls were the most likely strategy to deliver positive net (dental health) benefit among those eligible for 24-month recall, with a probability of positive net benefit ranging from 65% to 99%. For the combined group, the optimal strategy was less clear. Risk-based recalls were more likely to be the most efficient recall strategy in scenarios where the costing perspective was widened to include participant-incurred costs, and in the Scottish subgroup. LIMITATIONS Information regarding factors considered by dentists to inform the risk-based interval and the interaction with patients to determine risk and agree the interval were not collected. CONCLUSIONS Over a 4-year period, we found no evidence of a difference in oral health for participants allocated to a 6-month or a risk-based recall interval, nor between a 24-month, 6-month or risk-based recall interval for participants eligible for a 24-month recall. However, people greatly value and are willing to pay for frequent dental check-ups; therefore, the most efficient recall strategy depends on the scope of the cost and benefit valuation that decision-makers wish to consider. FUTURE WORK Assessment of the impact of risk assessment tools in informing risk-based interval decision-making and techniques for communicating a variable recall interval to patients. Abstract
The aim of this systematic review and network meta-analysis was to summarize the direct and indirect clinical evidence on the effectiveness of professionally applied and self-applied topical fluorides in preventing dental root caries. Controlled clinical trials with any follow-up duration were included. MEDLINE, PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane Library were searched. Two reviewers independently carried out the selection of studies, data extraction, risk-of-bias assessments, and assessment of the certainty in the evidence using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) approach. Fixed effects model and frequentist approach were used in the network meta-analyses. Nine clinical trials involving 4,030 participants were included. Five professionally applied and 7 self-applied topical fluoride agents or combinations were included in the meta-analyses. Compared to control group, 38% silver diamine fluoride solution, 5% sodium fluoride varnish, and 1.2% acidulated phosphate fluoride reduced root caries increment after 2 y (ranging from 0.59 to 0.85 mean decayed or filled root [DF-root]). Fluoride mouth rinse and fluoride toothpaste, used alone or in combination, reduced root caries increment after 1 y (ranging from 0.29 to 1.90 mean DF-root). Among the professionally applied topical fluorides reviewed, an annually applied 38% silver diamine fluoride (SDF) solution combined with oral health education is most likely to be the most effective in preventing dental root caries. Among the reviewed self-applied topical fluoride methods, daily use of a 0.2% sodium fluoride (NaF) mouth rinse is most likely to be the most effective, followed by 1100 ppm to 1500 ppm fluoride toothpaste plus 0.05% NaF mouth rinse, and 1100 ppm to 1500 ppm fluoride toothpaste.

The aims of this study were to evaluate the physicochemical and mechanical properties, antimicrobial (AM) functionality, and cytotoxic potential of novel dental polymers containing quaternary ammonium and trimethoxysilyl functionalities (e.g., N-(2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl)-N,N-dimethyl-3-(trimethoxysilyl)propan-1-aminium iodide (AMsil1) and N-(2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl)-N,N-dimethyl-11-(trimethoxysilyl)undecan-1-aminium bromide (AMsil2)). AMsil1 or AMsil2 were incorporated into light-cured (camphorquinone + ethyl-4-N,N-dimethylamino benzoate) urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA)/polyethylene glycol-extended UDMA/ethyl 2-(hydroxymethyl)acrylate (EHMA) resins (hereafter, UPE resin) at 10 or 20 mass %. Cytotoxic potential was assessed by measuring viability and metabolic activity of immortalized mouse connective tissue and human gingival fibroblasts in direct contact with monomers. AMsil-UPE resins were evaluated for wettability by contact angle measurements and degree of vinyl conversion (DVC) by near infra-red spectroscopy analyses. Mechanical property evaluations entailed flexural strength (FS) and elastic modulus (E) testing of copolymer specimens. The AM properties were assessed using Streptococcus mutans (planktonic and biofilm forms) and Porphyromonas gingivalis biofilm. Neither AMsil exhibited significant toxicity in direct contact with cells at biologically relevant concentrations. Addition of AMsils made the UPE resin more hydrophilic. DVC values for the AMsil-UPE copolymers were 2%-31% lower than that attained in the UPE resin control. The mechanical properties (FS and E) of AMsil-UPE specimens were reduced (11%-57%) compared to the control. Compared to UPE resin, AMsil1-UPE and AMsil2-UPE (10% mass) copolymers reduced S. mutans biofilm 4.7- and 1.7-fold, respectively (p ≤ 0.005). Although not statistically different, P. gingivalis biofilm biomass on AMsil1-UPE and AM AMsil2-UPE copolymer disks were lower (71% and 85%, respectively) than that observed with a commercial AM dental material. In conclusion, the AM function of new monomers is not inundated by their toxicity towards cells. Despite the reduction in mechanical properties of the AMsil-UPE copolymers, AMsil2 is a good candidate for incorporation into multifunctional composites due to the favorable overall hydrophilicity of the resins and the satisfactory DVC values attained upon light polymerization of AMsil-containing UDMA/PEG-U/EHMA copolymers.

Abstract
The study aimed to apply micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and transverse microradiography (TMR) to measure dentine demineralization and to test the preventive effect of titanium tetrafluoride (TiF4 ) under microcosm biofilm. Sound dentine specimens from bovine root were treated for 6 h with: (i) 4.0% titanium tetrafluoride (TiF4 ) varnish [pH 1.0, 2.45% fluoride (F-); (ii) 5.42% sodium fluoride (NaF) varnish (pH 5.0, 2.45% F); (iii) 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) gel (pH 7.0); (iv) placebo varnish (pH 5.0); or (v) no agent (untreated). Dentine specimens were then exposed to human saliva mixed with McBain saliva for 8 h. Thereafter, McBain saliva containing 0.2% sucrose was applied daily, for 5 d, onto dentine specimens to stimulate formation of microcosm biofilm. Although a high correlation was found between the results of both methods regarding integrated mineral loss, the results of the methods did not show good agreement in Bland-Altman plots, with significant biases in calculations of lesion depth. Fluoride varnishes were able to reduce dentine demineralization (P < 0.05), while CHX failed to do so. Fluorides are still the best option to reduce dentine demineralization. Micro-CT may be used to measure dentine mineral loss, but not the lesion depth, for which TMR is superior.

Abstract
Background This umbrella review comprehensively appraised evidence for silver diamine fluoride (SDF) to arrest and prevent root and coronal caries by summarizing systematic reviews. Adverse events were explored. Methods Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, PROSPERO register and Joanna Briggs Institute Database of Systematic Reviews were searched for systematic reviews investigating SDF for caries prevention or arrest (1970–2018) without language restrictions. Systematic reviews were selected, data extracted, and risk of bias assessed using ROBIS by two independent reviewers, in duplicate. Corrected covered area was calculated to quantify studies’ overlap across reviews. Results Eleven systematic reviews were included; four focussing on SDF for root caries in adults and seven on coronal caries in children. These cited 30 studies (4 root caries; 26 coronal caries) appearing 63 times. Five systematic reviews were of “low”, one “unclear” and five “high” risk of bias. Overlap of studies was very high (50% root caries; 17% coronal caries). High overlap and heterogeneity, mainly comparators and outcome measures, precluded meta-analysis. Results were grouped by aim and outcomes to present an overview of direction and magnitude of effect. SDF had a positive effect on prevention and arrest of coronal and root caries, consistently outperforming comparators (fluoride varnish, Atraumatic Restorative Treatment, placebo). For root caries prevention, the prevented fraction (PF) was 25–71% higher for SDF compared to placebo (two systematic reviews with three studies) and PF = 100–725% for root caries arrest (one systematic review with two studies). For coronal caries prevention, PF = 70–78% (two systematic reviews with two studies) and PF = 55–96% for coronal caries arrest (one systematic review with two studies) with arrest rates of 65–91% (four systematic reviews with six studies). Eight systematic reviews reported adverse events, seven of which reported arrested lesions black staining. Conclusion Systematic reviews consistently supported SDF’s effectiveness for arresting coronal caries in the primary dentition and arresting and preventing root caries in older adults for all comparators. There is insufficient evidence to draw conclusions on SDF for prevention in primary teeth and prevention and arrest in permanent teeth in children. No serious adverse events were reported. Abstract
Alzheimer's disease and related disorders (ADRD) are among the age-associated chronic conditions that are most challenging to health care systems around the globe, as patients with dementia require full-time, intensive care for multiple years. Oral health care is negatively impacted by cognitive decline, and consequently poor oral health is common among people with ADRD. Poor oral health status is linked with many undesirable consequences for the well-being of people with ADRD, from excruciating local pain to life-threatening conditions, as aspiration pneumonia. In this paper, the authors provide an update on the most current concepts about Alzheimer's disease epidemiology, etiology, and management, current oral health care for patients with Alzheimer's disease, oral health promotion strategies for this population, as well as current research and future direction for improving oral health care for patients with Alzheimer's disease. It concludes that oral health care should be included in the patient's routine health care as early as possible in the progression of Alzheimer's disease for preventing rapid oral health deterioration. Establishing oral hygiene routines and providing dental treatment that is customized to the patients' individual needs and disease stage are important to achieve good oral health outcomes and prevent quality of life decline.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate anti-demineralization effects of dentin desensitizer containing sodium fluoride and methacrylate-co-p-styrene sulfonic acid (MS polymer) on root dentin using transverse microradiography (TMR). Material and methods: Twenty-four dentin specimens were divided into four groups: MSO (no fluoride), MSF (3000 ppm F), FJL (9000 ppm F), and Control. In MSO and MSF, each desensitizer was rubbed into the dentin surfaces for 10 s then left for 20 s. In FJL, paste containing 9000 ppm F was applied onto the surface for 30 s. All specimens, including the Controls, were rinsed with deionized water, dried and an area of their surface exposed to pH 5.0 acidic solution, refreshed every 24 h, for 4 days. Sections 300-µm-thick were assessed by TMR. Mineral profiles and integrated mineral loss (IML) of lesions were analyzed by dedicated software. IML was analyzed with one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test. Results: MSF and FJL specimens showed high mineral volume % at the surface and in lesions, and significantly lower IML than the other groups (p < .05). Conclusion: Dentin desensitizer containing 3000 ppm fluoride and MS polymer has the same anti-demineralization effect as does a fluoride paste containing 9000 ppm F.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In this systematic review, the authors aim to assess the effect of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) in preventing and arresting caries in exposed root surfaces of adults. TYPES OF STUDIES REVIEWED Two reviewers independently searched for controlled clinical trials with at least 12 months of follow-up, without language or date of publication restraints, in 8 electronic databases, 5 registries of ongoing trials, and reference lists of narrative reviews. RESULTS The authors found 2,356 unique records and included 3 trials in which the investigators randomly assigned 895 older adults. Investigators in all studies compared SDF with placebo; investigators in 1 also compared 38% SDF with chlorhexidine and sodium fluoride varnishes. The primary effect measures were the weighted mean differences (WMDs) in decayed or filled root surfaces (DFRS) and the mean differences in arrested carious lesions between SDF and control groups. The studies had low risk of bias in most domains. SDF applications had a significantly better preventive effect in comparison with placebo (WMD DFRS: 24 months, -0.56; 95% confidence interval, -0.77 to -0.36; 30 months or more, -0.80; 95% confidence interval, -1.19 to -0.42), and they were as effective as either chlorhexidine or sodium fluoride varnish in preventing new root carious lesions. SDF also provided a significantly higher caries arrest effect than did placebo (pooled results not calculated). Complaints about black staining of the carious lesions by SDF were rare among older adults. CONCLUSIONS AND PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS Yearly 38% SDF applications to exposed root surfaces of older adults are a simple, inexpensive, and effective way of preventing caries initiation and progression.

Abstract
Minimal intervention (MI) dentistry aims to preserve dental tissues first and restore only when indicated, thus remineralisation of initial (non-cavitated) caries lesions, an integral part of caries management, is an essential treatment strategy in MI. With this understanding, dental practitioners are increasingly embracing the principle of non-operative treatment of initial caries lesions. The purpose of this review was to summarise the most recent literature published in non-operative management of dental caries. Three electronic databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane CENTRAL) were searched, and clinical studies, systematic reviews and meta-analysis were included. This report outlines the strategies and numerous therapeutic materials available to aid in arrestment/remineralisation of initial caries lesions on root and coronal surfaces. However, the level of evidence of effect is variable, as well as the availability in different parts of the world. Options available to practitioners will vary when placing emphasis on the level of evidence supporting them. Strong clinical evidence support the effectiveness of pits/fissure sealants for therapeutic management of active initial caries on occlusal surfaces, and fluoride varnishes for remineralisation of caries lesions on root and coronal smooth surfaces, including proximal surfaces. Other materials formulated to enhance the effectiveness of any chosen remineralisation strategy were discussed. However, it is absolutely necessary that all caries remineralisation treatment be complemented with general behavioural modification in oral health through motivational interviewing directed towards change in oral hygiene to control plaque, dietary attitude modification to reduce the frequency of intake of fermentable sugars, and establishment of risk-based recall visits.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This systematic review examines the effectiveness of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) in the management of caries in older adults. BACKGROUND Silver diamine fluoride has been extensively researched and proven effective for caries prevention and arrest in children. Limited studies support its effectiveness in adult and older adult populations. MATERIALS AND METHODS Multiple databases were searched according to specified inclusion-exclusion criteria. Quality assessment used modified Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine worksheets. RESULTS Three randomised controlled trials were identified that addressed the effectiveness of SDF on root caries in older adults, but none addressed coronal caries. Root caries prevented fraction and arrest rate for SDF were significantly higher than placebo. The prevented fraction for caries prevention for SDF compared to placebo was 71% in a 3-year study and 25% in a 2-year study. The prevented fraction for caries arrest for SDF was 725% greater in a 24-month study and 100% greater than placebo in a 30-month study. No severe adverse effects were observed. CONCLUSION This systematic review evaluates the use of SDF for both root caries prevention and arrest in older adults. Existing reports of SDF trials support effectiveness in root caries prevention and arrest, remineralization of deep occlusal lesions and treatment of hypersensitive dentin.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate complete and reduced Cariogram models in predicting root caries risk in independently living older adults by comparing the caries risk assessment of the programme to observed root caries increment over a two-year period. METHODS A prospective study recording root caries incidence was conducted on 334 dentate older adults. Data were collected on participant's medical history, fluoride exposure, and diet. Saliva samples were collected to measure salivary flow rate, buffer capacity and bacterial counts. Clinical examination was completed to record decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) and also exposed, filled and decayed root surfaces (RDFS). This was repeated after 12 and 24 months. Scores were entered into the Cariogram and baseline risk category was recorded. Reduced Cariogram models were generated by omitting individual salivary variables and all salivary variables. The performance of the complete and reduced Cariogram models in predicting root caries incidence were evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. RESULTS 280 participants were examined at two year follow up. 55.6% of those in the highest risk group developed new caries compared to 3.8% in the lowest risk group. The mean root caries increment in the highest risk group was 2.00 (SD 3.20) compared to 0.04 (SD 0.20) in the lowest risk group. The area under the ROC curve for the complete Cariogram model was 0.77 (95% CI 0.70-0.83) indicating a fair performance in predicting root caries. Omitting individual or all salivary variables did not significantly alter the predictive ability of the Cariogram. CONCLUSION Within the limitations of this study, the Cariogram was clinically useful in identifying individuals with a high risk of developing root caries. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Identification of a caries risk assessment tool which could reliably select high-risk individuals for root caries prevention strategies would maximise the cost effectiveness of professionally delivered prevention measures.

Abstract
Evaluating the physiochemical processes at the tooth surface/bacteria interface is important for elucidating the etiology of dental caries. This study aimed to compare the mineral solubility and protein degradation of coronal enamel (CE) and root dentin (RD), and investigate the involvement of dissolved components in bacteria-induced pH changes using a model of tooth/bacteria interface. An experimental apparatus forming a well was made of polymethyl methacrylate, and a bovine tooth (CE or RD) specimen was fixed at the bottom of the well. A miniature pH electrode was placed on the tooth, and Streptococcus mutans NCTC 10449 cells, grown in 0.5% glucose-containing complex medium, were packed into the well. The pH at the tooth/S. mutans interface was monitored continuously for 120 min after the addition of 0.5% glucose at 37°C. S. mutans cells were recovered from the wells, and the amounts of lactate and calcium were measured using a portable lactate meter and a fluorescent dye, respectively. Proteolytic activity was also evaluated fluorometrically. The pH of the RD/S. mutans interface was significantly higher than that of the CE/S. mutans interface (30 min: 6.37 ± 0.12 vs. 6.18 ± 0.11, 60 min: 6.08 ± 0.14 vs. 5.66 ± 0.27, 90 min: 5.49 ± 0.24 vs. 5.14 ± 0.22, p < 0.05). Greater amounts of calcium were dissolved from RD (3.19 ± 0.74 µg/mL) than from CE (1.84 ± 0.68 µg/mL; p < 0.05), while similar amounts of lactate were produced. Proteolytic activity was not detected at any of the interfaces. These results indicate that RD is more soluble to bacteria-induced acidification than CE. This method can contribute to the evaluation and development of caries-preventive materials.

Abstract
Oral disease can have a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of the housebound patient. The aetiology of oral conditions such as dental caries and periodontal disease have been well investigated and there is a solid evidence base in how to best prevent their progress. The Department of Health document Delivering better oral health: an evidence-based toolkit for prevention is a valuable resource that outlines the current best preventative evidence in the form of practical advice for clinicians and patients. This article aims to distil and present this advice for the benefit of community nurses. It will identify areas of particular importance for people with additional needs, particularly the elderly and infirm. Outlining how to best tailor preventative advice and treatment for this patient group.

Abstract
Effects of a fluoride-releasing varnish containing surface reaction-type prereacted glass ionomer (S-PRG) filler on dentin demineralization were examined using optical coherence tomography. Bovine incisors that were sliced and treated with undersaturated 0.1 M lactic acid buffer solution (DE group). A thin film of varnish-containing S-PRG filler was applied before demineralization (PRG group). Control was maintained in artificial saliva. Using optical coherence tomography of selected locations on the dentin surface, peak intensity (dB) and width (μm) at 1/e(2) were obtained and integrated values calculated. Although alterations in integrated values were different in each group, there was a slight but not significant increase in those for the control group and a slight but significant increase for the De group. For the PRG group, integrated values were doubled seven days after experiment initiation, followed by a significant increase. Fluoride-releasing varnish containing S-PRG fillers prevented dentin demineralization as detected by optical coherence tomography.
