Abstract
PURPOSE Few studies were conducted to examine the correlation between the anxiety symptoms, depressive symptoms, self-efficacy, and social support variables and type 1 diabetes in developing countries, including Jordan. Thus, this study was conducted to assess the correlation between these psychosocial factors and self-care management among Jordanian adolescents with type 1 diabetes. DESIGN & METHODS A cross-sectional, descriptive correlational design was used to perform a study among adolescents with type 1 diabetes (N = 351) aged 14-18 years who attended primary healthcare centers clinics, and diabetic clinics related to hospitals in Amman Governorate, Jordan. A convenience sampling method was used to recruit participants. The data were collected using self-reported questionnaire during the period from June to December 2023. FINDINGS The results revealed that around 61.0 % of the sample were males and 39 % female, and 74.9 % of the participants experienced type 1 diabetes for more than one year. Only, 4.3 % of the participants had the recommended HbA1c (< 7.5 %). The participants had high percentage anxiety and depressive symptoms, poor self-efficacy, moderate social support, and low self-care management. There was a correlation between self-efficacy, social support, and self-care management. Also, social support mediated the relationship between self-efficacy and self-care management. However, no relationship existed between anxiety and depressive symptoms and self-care management. CONCLUSION Screening for anxiety and depressive symptoms should be a significant element of care for adolescents with type 1 diabetes in outpatient clinics. Policymakers and healthcare professionals including pediatric nurses should develop strategies and education programs on self-care management to enhance self-care practices and management for adolescents with type 1 diabetes.

Abstract
Aim This study aimed to obtain an in-depth understanding of the experiences of adolescents with well-controlled type 1 diabetes who were adjusting to closed-loop technology. Method Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was conducted. Five participants (aged 15-18) were recruited from the Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology in Parktown, South Africa, to participate in semi-structured interviews about their experiences of adjusting to closed-loop technology. Results Five superordinate themes emerged (1): learning to trust the technology (2), making diabetes visible (3), building a relationship with diabetes (4), empowering support networks, and (5) transformative positive outcomes. The findings demonstrate that closed-loop technology positively impacts the adjustment to living with type 1 diabetes. However, as highlighted by all participants, the individual's engagement and management are crucial. Based on the adolescents' experiences, interventions should focus on psychological factors.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by impaired glucose regulation. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of Acceptance-Based Emotion Regulation Therapy (ABERT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on HbA1c levels and self-care behaviors in patients living with T2D. Participants were randomly assigned to ABERT (n = 16), ACT (n = 17), and control (n = 17) groups. The treatment groups received therapy based on treatment manuals, while the control group received treatment as usual (i.e., standard medical treatment). Assessments were conducted pre- and post-treatment, with a six-month follow-up, measuring HbA1c levels and self-care behaviors. Results from repeated-measures ANOVAs and post-hoc analysis demonstrated that both ABERT and ACT led to significant improvements compared to the control group. However, ABERT was more effective than ACT in reducing HbA1c levels and enhancing self-care behaviors, with sustained benefits observed in the long term. At the individual level, a higher percentage of participants in the ACT and ABERT groups experienced a global improvement in HbA1c compared to the control group during the post-test assessment. Furthermore, a higher percentage of participants in the ABERT group showed global improvement compared to both the ACT and control groups in the post-test to follow-up period. No statistically significant differences in self-care behaviors were observed between the groups at the individual level. These findings suggest that the ABERT may be a valuable intervention for individuals living with T2D, though more studies are needed to examine this subject.

Abstract
Young adulthood can be a challenging time for individuals with diabetes mellitus (DM) as they experience increasing independence and life transitions, which can make it difficult to engage in DM self care. Compared to older adults, young adults are more likely to have higher glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). They also often have lower adherence to standards of care in DM, and higher utilization of emergency department (ED) visits and hospitalizations for diabetic ketoacidosis. This review describes health-care utilization and explores factors that may contribute to high HbA1c among young adults with DM. In addition, it discusses the unique health-care needs of young adults with DM, examines the role of technology in their DM care, and analyzes the effects of social determinants of health on their health-care utilization.

Abstract
PURPOSE Type 1 diabetes influences adolescents' health status and therapeutic management. Adaptation for adolescents with type 1 diabetes is considered a significant issue for this cohort group and is based on many factors, including availability of resources, and family and community support. Thus, this study aimed to explore Palestinian adolescents' experiences of adaptation to type 1 diabetes in the West Bank. DESIGN AND METHODS A qualitative grounded theory approach was adopted. The purposive sample consisted of fourteen adolescents aged from 12 to 18 years and diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The data were collected using semi-structured and face-to-face individual interviews during the period from March to June 2023. A constant comparative method was used to analyze data. FINDINGS The core category had emerged with categories and subcategories. There were three categories and ten subcategories including difficulties in the management of type 1 diabetes, for example, "insulin injections, dietary management, and control of HbA1c levels", burdens of type1 diabetes, for example, "burden regarding follow-up treatment, the burden of interaction and communication, emotional burden, and economic burden", and fears and worries of unexpected future life, for example, "worries about disease complications, worries regarding social relationships, and worries about marriage and parenthood". CONCLUSION Adolescents diagnosed with type 1 diabetes suffer from difficult experiences influencing their adaptation to this disease. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Counseling programs concerning self-care management for those adolescents need to be developed in addition to support programs. Health education programs are needed to develop their adaptation and coping skills to these experiences.

Abstract
Background Adherence to insulin and blood glucose monitoring (BGM) is insufficient in adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with type 1 diabetes (T1D) worldwide and in Qatar. Little is known about the factors related to being aware of suboptimal adherence and the beliefs related to suboptimal adherence in this group. This qualitative study investigated factors related to awareness of, and beliefs about suboptimal adherence, as well as the existence of specific action plans to combat suboptimal adherence using the I-Change model. Methods The target group was comprised of 20 Arab AYAs (17-24 years of age) with T1D living in Qatar. Participants were interviewed via semi-structured, face-to-face individual interviews, which were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using the Framework Method. Results Suboptimal adherence to insulin, and particularly to BGM, in AYAs with T1D was identified. Some AYAs reported to have little awareness about the consequences of their suboptimal adherence and how this can adversely affect optimal diabetes management. Participants also associated various disadvantages to adherence ( e.g., hypoglycemia, pain, among others) and reported low self-efficacy in being adherent ( e.g., when outside home, in a bad mood, among others). Additionally, goal setting and action-planning often appeared to be lacking. Factors facilitating adherence were receiving support from family and healthcare providers, being motivated, and high self-efficacy. Conclusions Interventions that increase awareness concerning the risks of suboptimal adherence of AYAs with T1D are needed, that increase motivation to adhere by stressing the advantages, creating support and increasing self-efficacy, and that address action planning and goal parameters.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a significant public health challenge in Serbia, mirroring the situation in other European middle-income countries. The aims of this study were to examine the disease-related characteristics and management of diabetes, as well as the prevalence of use of dietary supplements (DS) among diabetes patients in Serbia, and to analyze the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on DM patients in Serbia. METHODS The study was carried out as an online, observational, cross-sectional study involving 422 adult diabetes type 1 (DM1) and type 2 (DM2) patients residing in Serbia. RESULTS DM1 patients were more likely than DM2 patients to self-control glucose levels (p < 0.001). Almost one-third of DM2 patients (31.4%) did not know their HbA1c value. Polypharmacy has been reported by 9.7% of DM1 patients and 23.5% of DM2 patients. During the coronavirus pandemic increased anxiety levels for one-third of respondents was noticed. The prevalence of DS use among DM patients was very high (95.3%), with vitamin C, zinc, vitamin D and magnesium being the most commonly used. Women were more likely to use vitamin D (p = 0.001) and magnesium DS (p = 0.005) than men. Most patients (76.9%) faced limited access to healthcare services during the coronavirus pandemic with, sometimes, detrimental consequences. A significant portion of respondents (41.2%) consulted a pharmacist more often in 2021 than in previous years. CONCLUSIONS Special caution is needed regarding the potential interactions of DS with chronic therapy. To enhance diabetes care, Serbia needs more accessible mental health support, improved diabetes education, expanded CGM availability, and carefully planned emergency healthcare measures for chronic patients.

Abstract
(1) Background: Structured education has been used in patients treated with insulin, promoting their ability to adhere to and self-manage their treatment. We aimed to know the perception and adherence to the recommendations on the management of diabetes in type 1 diabetes patients after participating in a therapeutic education program. (2) Methods: A descriptive qualitative study followed the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research guidelines. Patients with type 1 diabetes participating in a therapeutic education program were recruited from February to April 2022. Semi-structured, in-depth interviews were used, and transcriptions were analyzed using the inductive qualitative content analysis method. The final sample consisted of 18 type 1 diabetes mellitus patients. (3) Results: A number of patients with type 1 diabetes said that they had improved their glycemic control after participating in the therapeutic education program. Some patients recognized that the chronic disease and the complications complexity generated stress and anxiety. This influenced their usual life, at work, and their interpersonal relationships. (4) Conclusions: In terms of satisfaction, the majority of patients reported a good perception of the quality of the organization, the professionals involved, and the contents of the program. The physical and psychosocial benefits of self-care training have been demonstrated.

Abstract
Objective: This study investigated the level and correlates of self-care practices among patients with type 2 diabetes on follow-up in two public hospitals in Harar, Eastern Ethiopia. Methods: We conducted a hospital-based cross-sectional study on adult patients with type 2 diabetes, surveying diabetes self-care practices using a 15-item Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities. Responses ranged from 0 to 7 days, and a composite score was computed representing the mean days of diabetes self-care practices. A generalized Poisson regression model with robust variance was used. The association between the diabetes self-care practices and correlates was examined using the incidence rate ratio with a 95% confidence level. The statistical significance was set at a p value of ⩽0.05. Results: This study included 879 patients with type 2 diabetes. The overall mean (standard deviation) diabetes self-care practices were 3.7 ± 1.1 days out of the recommended 7 days, indicating low self-care practices. After controlling for other variables, tertiary educational level (incidence rate ratio = 1.06; 95% confidence interval: 1.01, 1.12), adequate diabetes knowledge (incidence rate ratio = 1.04; 95% confidence interval: 1.00, 1.08), moderate (incidence rate ratio = 1.07; 95% confidence interval: 1.02, 1.11) and high perceived self-efficacy (incidence rate ratio = 1.14; 95% confidence interval: 1.09, 1.13) (incidence rate ratio = 1.07; 95% confidence interval: 1.02, 1.11), high to marginal food security (incidence rate ratio = 1.13; 95% confidence interval: 1.03, 1.24), and receiving dietary advice (incidence rate ratio = 1.11; 95% confidence interval: 0.06, 1.15) were positively correlated with diabetes self-care practices. A history of hospitalization, on the other hand, was found to be inversely correlated with diabetes self-care practices (incidence rate ratio = 0.94; 95% confidence interval: 0.88, 0.99). Conclusion: The study indicated that adherence of patients with type 2 diabetes to the recommended self-care practices was considerably low. Therefore, tailored diabetes self-management education to enhance self-efficacy and diabetes self-care practices must be in place. This can be achieved through the system or individual-based integrated intervention efforts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Anxiety, depression, and disease-related distress are linked to worse overall glycaemic control, in terms of HbA1c. This study was aimed to evaluate whether traits of these emotional disorders are associated with long-term glycaemic variability in subjects with Type 1 diabetes. METHODS Longitudinal retrospective study. Six-year HbA1c data (2014-2019) from 411 subjects with Type 1 diabetes who had participated in a previous study to design a diabetes-specific quality of life questionnaire in the year 2014 were included. Scores for Spanish versions of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and Problem Areas in Diabetes (PAID) scale were obtained at baseline, along with sociodemographic and clinical data. Long-term glycaemic variability was measured as the coefficient of variation of HbA1c (HbA1c-CV). The association between HADS and PAID scores and HbA1c-CV was analysed with Spearman correlations and multiple regression models, both linear and additive, including other covariates (age, sex, diabetes duration time, type of treatment, baseline HbA1c, use of anxiolytic or antidepressant drugs, education level and employment status). RESULTS Scores of depression, anxiety and distress were positively and significantly correlated to HbA1c-CV in univariate analyses. Multiple regression study demonstrated an independent association only for diabetes distress score (p < 0.001). Age, diabetes duration time, baseline HbA1c, education level and employment status were also significantly associated with HbA1c-CV. However, when subjects were analyzed separately in two age groups, distress scores were associated with HbA1c-CV only among those aged 25 years or older, while anxiety scores, but not distress, were associated with HbA1c-CV among those younger than 25 years. CONCLUSIONS Psychological factors, particularly disease-related distress and anxiety, are associated with long-term glycaemic variability in subjects with Type 1 diabetes.

Abstract
Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the level of adherence to diabetes self-management and associated factors among adolescents living with type 1 diabetes at Public Hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods An institutional-based cross-sectional study was carried out among 422 adolescents with type 1 diabetes attending outpatient diabetic clinics at public hospitals in Addis Ababa. The adolescents were interviewed using pretested questionnaires to give information on adherence to diabetes self-management. A variable that has a P-value of <0.2 in bi-variable logistic regression analysis was subjected to multivariable logistic regression analysis to control the confounding factors. The level of significance was pronounced at P-value <0.05. Results In this study, a total of 414 adolescents living with type 1 diabetes were interviewed making a 98.1% response rate. About 218 participants (52.7%) had poor adherence to overall diabetes self-management. Self-efficacy (AOR=8.7, 95% CI:1.9-14.1, P=0.005), social support (AOR=4.6, 95% CI:1.5-13.5, P=0.006), age (AOR=0.2, 95% CI:0.1-0.4, P=0.001), good knowledge of the disease (AOR=9.046, 95% CI:3.83-13.5, P=0.000), moderate knowledge (AOR=6.763, 95% CI:2.18-12.921, P=0.001), and time since diagnosis of type 1 diabetes (AOR=0.1, 95% CI:0.02-0.2, P=0.005) were significantly associated with adherence to diabetes self-management. Conclusions and Recommendations More than half of this population had poor adherence to diabetes self-management. The finding suggested that implementing a comprehensive guideline of adherence and expanding the recurrence of follow-up visits could be important for this population.

Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of complementary and alternative therapy on physical activity and self-care power in individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The study was conducted on 63 individuals who had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for at least 6 months, and met the inclusion criteria. The Personal Information Form, International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form, and Diabetes Self-Care Scale were used to collect the data. Percentage, median, Mann-Whitney U tests, and Wilcoxon tests were used for data analysis. While 71.9% of the individuals were only on diabetic diet, 58% of the individuals were on diabetic diet together with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) methods, and all those patients regularly measured their blood glucose levels; 19.4% of the individuals on both diabetic diet and CAM methods, and 21.9% of the individuals only on diabetic diet used more than one oral medication per day. The findings of this study revealed that 35.5% of the individuals both on diabetic diet and CAM methods and 40.6% of the individuals only on diabetic diet used insulin. The individuals who were both on diabetic diet and CAM methods stated that their health statuses improved in the previous month; however, the individuals who were only on diabetic diet did not report any improvement in that period. Physical activity levels and self-care behaviors of the individuals on diabetic diet and CAM methods together were found to be significantly better than those who were only on a diabetic diet. A positive relationship was found between physical activity level and self-care behaviors.

Abstract
AIMS To determine whether diabetes distress or depression screening better predict increased hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and to assess interactions with age, sex, race, obesity, and insurance status. BACKGROUND Diabetes distress is a negative emotional reaction to diabetes, diabetes complications, self-management demands, unresponsive providers, and/or poor interpersonal relationships. Guidelines recommend annual depression screening, however diabetes distress may be mistaken for depression. METHOD Depression (PHQ-9) and diabetes distress (PAID-T) scores from self-administered tests were studied in 313 patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) between the ages of 13-17. Spearman correlations and robust rank order multivariable regression analysis were used to assess relationships to age, duration, HbA1c. Kruskal-Wallis test was used to assess differences between sexes, races, and insurance status. Receiver operator curves (ROC) were constructed to see whether PAID-T or PHQ-9 scores more closely predicted HbA1c greater than 9%. RESULTS HbA1c was more strongly correlated with PAID-T (rs = 0.37, p < 0.01), than PHQ-9 (rs = 0.27, p < 0.01) scores. Area under ROC curve for poor HbA1c was 0.75 for PAID and 0.64 for PHQ-9. PAID-T and PHQ-9 scores were increased in females and subjects with public insurance and both were significantly related to HbA1c even when accounting for age, sex, race obesity, and insurance status. PHQ-9 and PAID-T scores correlated with BMI-Z scores in Blacks, but not Whites. CONCLUSIONS Both depression and diabetes distress are associated with increased HbA1c in adolescents with T1D, though distress is more so. Diabetes distress and depression should be routinely assessed in T1D adolescents, particularly those with public insurance.

Abstract
People with type 1 diabetes (T1D) are more likely to have depression than the general population and their prognosis is worse. Unfortunately, the characteristics of persons with T1D lead to inadequate screening for depression in this population. To aid in the detection of depression in this population, this study was undertaken to develop a depressive symptoms assessment instrument specific to patients with T1D and to examine its psychometric properties. A total of 207 people with T1D participated in this study. The reliability of the new scale was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha and the Spearman-Brown split-half coefficient. The Depression Inventory for type 1 Diabetes (DID-1), composed of 45 items on a Likert scale (1–7), shows high internal and temporal consistency, as well as adequate concurrent, convergent and discriminant validity. Factor analysis identified 7 factors (Symptoms of depression, Diminished interest, Hopelessness and dissatisfaction, Guilt, Fear, frustration and irritability, Defenselessness, and Interference in daily life) that explained 61.612% of the total variability. The cut-off score for diagnosis was set at 155 points. It was concluded that the DID-1 scale is a reliable, valid and useful tool for the assessment of depressive symptoms, eliminating the bias of other nonspecific diabetes scales.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess whether the extent of deviation from chronic disease guideline recommendations is more prominent for specific diseases compared with combined-care across multiple conditions among multimorbid patients, and to examine reasons for this deviation. DESIGN A cross-sectional cohort. SETTING Multimorbidity care management programme across 11 primary care clinics. PATIENTS Patients aged 45-95 years with at least two common chronic conditions, sampled according to being new (≤6 months) or veteran (≥1 year) to the programme. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Deviation from guideline-recommended care was measured for each patient's relevant conditions, aggregated and stratified across disease groups, calculated as measures of 'disease-specific' guideline deviation and 'combined-care' (all conditions) guideline deviation for: atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, depression, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, hypertension and ischaemic heart disease. Combined-care deviation was evaluated for its association with specific diseases. Frequencies of previously derived reason types for deviation (biomedical, patient personal and contextual) were reported by nurse care managers, assessed across diseases and evaluated for their association with specific diseases. RESULTS Among 204 patients, disease-specific deviation varied more (from 14.7% to 48.2%) across diseases than combined-care deviation (from 14.7% to 25.6%). Depression and diabetes were significantly associated with more deviation (mean: 6% (95% CI: 2% to 10%) and 5% (95% CI: 2% to 9%), respectively). For some conditions, assessments were among small patient samples. Guideline deviation was often attributed to non-disease-specific reasons, such as physical limitations or care burden, as much as disease-specific reasons, which was reflected in the likelihood for guideline deviation to be due to different types of reasons for some diseases. CONCLUSIONS When multimorbid patients are considered in disease groups rather than as 'whole persons', as in many quality of care studies, the cross-cutting factors in their care delivery can be missed. Abstract
Background Type 1 diabetes is a disease with complex therapeutic recommendations that require day-to-day lifestyle changes. Motivational Interviewing is a communication tool that has proved effective in changing behaviors in people with addictions, obesity and type 2 diabetes. Our objective is to evaluate the effects of a Motivational Interviewing intervention in people with type 1 diabetes. Methods Sixty-six patients with type 1 diabetes and hemoglobin A1c >= 8% have been included and randomly assigned (computer-generated sequence, sealed envelopes, ratio 1:1) either to the intervention or to the control group. In the intervention group, appointments every 4 months with the endocrinologist include Motivational Interviewing; in the control group, the appointments proceed as usual. Patients will be followed for 16 months. The primary outcome will be self-care behaviors, assessed by a validated questionnaire, the Diabetes Self-Care Inventory-Revised Version. Secondary outcomes include: HbA1c, motivation for self-care, self-efficacy, health-related quality of life, satisfaction with professional-patient relationship, and fulfillment of patients' own objectives. The practitioners receive training in Motivational Interviewing in order to help them promote adherence to self-care, encourage patient motivation and improve the doctor-patient relationship. The Motivational Interviewing intervention will be evaluated by two psychologists, blinded to the assigned treatment, through video recordings of the sessions and the administration of a purpose-built questionnaire, the EVEM 2.0 scale. Discussion There is evidence that MI can improve self-care in type 2 diabetes. In this study, we aim to evaluate the effect of MI on self-care and HbA1c in people with type 1 diabetes. Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the frequency and factors associated with inadequate self-care behaviors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 355 patients with T2DM, using multistage cluster sampling, attending the Najran University Hospital and Primary health care centres in Najran, Saudi Arabia, from January to May 2019. The assessment of self-care behaviors was conducted using the 16-item diabetes self-management questionnaire (DSMQ). Results: The majority (85.1%) of the patients with T2DM were uncontrolled, 42% were obese, and 5.9% were morbidly obese. Based on DSMQ criteria, the majority of patients (90.1%) had poor self-care behaviors. The mean sum of DSMQ was 5.04 out of 10. Among the DSMQ subscales, health care use had the highest mean score of 5.63, followed by glucose management with a score of 5.12, while dietary control had lower mean scores of 4.96 and physical activity had 4.46, all were inadequate. Being married (OR=2.178, p=0.035) and having DM for more than 5 years (OR=2.711, p less than 0.006) were the significant independent factors associated with poor self-care behavior. CONCLUSION Inadequate self-care behavior is widely prevalent in Najran city, Saudi Arabia. All the DSMQ subscales were poorly managed by most of the diabetic patients. Furthermore, being married and having a longer DM duration are the significant independent factors associated with poor self-care behaviors.

Abstract
AIM To study and explore the intervention of the flash glucose monitoring system (FGMS) on diabetes-related distress (DRD) in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D). METHODS A 12-week prospective study was performed from March 2019 to July 2019 involving 187 children and adolescents (age range 13-19 years; 56.7% female) with T1D who were self-testing their glucose levels using the conventional fingerprick method. At the time of the baseline visit, FGMS sensors were fixed by a trained diabetes educator onto each patient in the study population. A trained interviewer also administered the 28-item T1-Diabetes Distress Scale (T1-DDS) questionnaire to each participant at the baseline visit and again after 12 weeks to determine the T1-DDS score. RESULTS Comparison of the baseline (fingerprick) data with data collected at 12 weeks after the patients had switched to the FGMS revealed a significant decrease in the subdomains of the T1-DDS as follows: powerlessness (p = 0.0001); management distress (p = 0.0001); hypoglycemia distress (p = 0.0001); negative social perceptions (p = 0.0001); eating (p = 0.0001); physician distress (p = 0.0001); friend/family distress (p = 0.0001); and total T1-DDS score (p = 0.0001). Similarly, analysis of the data revealed that there was also a substantial drop from baseline to 12 weeks after initiation of the intervention in the clinical variables assessed, such as glycosylated hemoglobin; specifically, there was a considerable decrease after 12 weeks in the frequency of hypoglycemia. Interestingly, the frequency of glucose monitoring also showed an upswing among users of the FGMS. CONCLUSION The outcomes of this study clearly demonstrate that once the patients had been switched from the fingerprick method to FGMS, the DRD and related clinical parameters showed remarkable improvement. However, further studies are necessary to determine whether the continued and consistent use of the FGMS will achieve better results.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is rising demand for health care's limited resources. Mobile health (mHealth) could be a solution, especially for those with chronic illnesses such as diabetes. mHealth can increases patients' options to self-manage their health, improving their health knowledge, engagement, and capacity to contribute to their own care decisions. However, there are few solutions for sharing and presenting patients' mHealth data with health care providers (HCPs) in a mutually understandable way, which limits the potential of shared decision making. OBJECTIVE Through a six-month mixed method feasibility study in Norway, we aim to explore the impacts that a system for sharing patient-gathered data from mHealth devices has on patients and HCPs during diabetes consultations. METHODS Patients with diabetes will be recruited through their HCPs. Participants will use the Diabetes Diary mobile phone app to register and review diabetes self-management data and share these data during diabetes consultations using the FullFlow data-sharing system. The primary outcome is the feasibility of the system, which includes HCP impressions and expectations (prestudy survey), usability (System Usability Scale), functionalities used and data shared during consultations, and study-end focus group meetings. Secondary outcomes include a change in the therapeutic relationship, patient empowerment and wellness, health parameters (HbA1c and blood pressure), and the patients' own app-registered health measures (blood glucose, medication, physical activity, diet, and weight). We will compare measures taken at baseline and at six months, as well as data continuously gathered from the app. Analysis will aim to explain which measures have changed and how and why they have changed during the intervention. RESULTS The Full Flow project is funded for 2016 to 2020 by the Research Council of Norway (number 247974/O70). We approached 14 general practitioner clinics (expecting to recruit 1-2 general practitioners per clinic) and two hospitals (expecting to recruit 2-3 nurses per hospital). By recruiting through the HCPs, we expect to recruit 74 patients with type 2 and 33 patients with type 1 diabetes. Between November 2018 and July 2019, we recruited eight patients and 15 HCPs. During 2020, we aim to analyze and publish the results of the collected data from our patient and HCP participants. CONCLUSIONS We expect to better understand what is needed to be able to share data. This includes potential benefits that sharing patient-gathered data during consultations will have on patients and HCPs, both individually and together. By measuring these impacts, we will be able to present the possibilities and challenges related to a system for sharing mHealth data for future interventions and practice. Results will also demonstrate what needs to be done to make this collaboration between HCPs and patients successful and subsequently further improve patients' health and engagement in their care.
