Abstract
Background Empowering adolescents in the field of puberty health is one of the important goals of public health programs. The present study was carried out with the aim of determining the effect of peer-led training on puberty-related behavior and its determinants using social cognitive theory. METHODS A total of 245 teenage girls were randomly divided into two groups: the intervention group and the comparison group. The questionnaire measuring puberty-related behavior and its determinants was self-administered and completed before and 2 months after training in the two groups. One session for parents, four sessions for peer educators, and four sessions for participants were conducted for 1 month. RESULTS In the intervention group, unlike the comparison group, the mean scores of knowledge, outcome expectations, self-efficacy, self-control, social support, and behavior increased significantly after training (p <0.05). Based on regression analysis, outcome expectations and social support were the main determinants of puberty-related behavior (adjusted R2 = 0.464). CONCLUSION The findings of this study support the effectiveness of the peer-led educational intervention based on social cognitive theory in the improvement of puberty-related behavior and its determinants, which can be used in the design of puberty-related health promotion programs. Further research to assess the longer-term outcomes and to examine other theories of behavior change are suggested.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A patient-centered, human-rights based approach to maternal care moves past merely reducing maternal mortality and morbidity, towards achieving a positive pregnancy experience. When evaluating an intervention, particularly in the context of the complex challenges facing maternal care in South Africa, it is therefore important to understand how intervention components are experienced by women. We aimed to qualitatively explore (i) factors influencing the pregnancy and postpartum experience amongst young women in Soweto, South Africa, and (ii) the influence of Bukhali, a preconception, pregnancy, and early childhood intervention delivered by community health workers (CHWs), on these experiences. METHODS Semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted with 15 purposively sampled participants. Participants were 18-28-year-old women who (i) were enrolled in the intervention arm of the Bukhali randomized controlled trial; (ii) were pregnant and delivered a child while being enrolled in the trial; and (iii) had at least one previous pregnancy prior to participation in the trial. Thematic analysis, informed by the positive pregnancy experiences framework and drawing on a codebook analysis approach, was used. RESULTS The themes influencing participants' pregnancy experiences (aim 1) were participants' feelings about being pregnant, the responsibilities of motherhood, physical and mental health challenges, unstable social support and traumatic experiences, and the pressures of socioeconomic circumstances. In terms of how support, information, and care practices influenced these factors (aim 2), four themes were generated: acceptance and mother/child bonding, growing and adapting in their role as mothers, receiving tools for their health, and having ways to cope in difficult circumstances. These processes were found to be complementary and closely linked to participant context and needs. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that, among women aged 18-28, a CHW-delivered intervention combining support, information, and care practices has the potential to positively influence women's pregnancy experience in South Africa. In particular, emotional support and relevant information were key to better meeting participant needs. These findings can help define critical elements of CHW roles in maternal care and highlight the importance of patient-centred solutions to challenges within antenatal care. Abstract
BACKGROUND Being aware of the possibility of becoming pregnant shortly after childbirth before the resumption of the menstrual period is often overlooked but remains a significant contributor to unintended pregnancies and may lead to maternal and neonatal comorbidities. Exploring the extent of awareness and associated factors could help tailor more interventions toward reducing the rates of short-interval unplanned pregnancies. OBJECTIVE This study explores the extent to which Ghanaian women are aware of the possibility of becoming pregnant shortly after childbirth before the resumption of the menstrual period and its associated factors. DESIGN A cross-sectional study was conducted using the 2017 Ghana Maternal Health Survey. The women participants were sampled using a two-stage cluster sampling design. METHODS We analyzed the 2017 Ghana Maternal Health Survey data of 8815 women who had given birth and received both antenatal care and postnatal checks after delivery in health facilities (private and public) and responded to questions on being aware of short interpregnancy intervals. A multivariable survey logistic regression was used for the analysis. RESULTS Of the 8815 women, approximately 62% of women who received both antenatal care and postnatal examinations before discharge reported being aware of short interpregnancy intervals. Postnatal examination before discharge but not antenatal care was associated with a higher awareness of short interpregnancy intervals. Women who received a postnatal examination were more aware of short interpregnancy intervals than their counterparts (adjusted odds ratio = 1.29, 95% confidence interval: 1.03-1.61). Also, awareness of short interpregnancy intervals increased with age, education, knowledge of the fertile period, contraceptive use, and delivery via cesarean section. CONCLUSION Over a decade following the initiation of Ghana's free maternal health policy, there remains a significant gap in the awareness of short interpregnancy intervals, even among women who received both antenatal pregnancy care and postnatal examinations before discharge. The unawareness of the short interpregnancy interval observed in approximately 38% of women raises concerns about the effectiveness of counseling or education provided during antenatal care and immediate post-partum care regarding birth spacing, contraceptive use, the timing of resumption of sexual activity, and the extent to which women adhere to such guidance.

Abstract
Background Adolescent pregnancy is a global issue. The majority of these adolescents experience unintended pregnancy ending in abortion. Knowledge gaps and misconceptions about reproductive health are the main reasons for unintended pregnancy among adolescents. Objective This study aims to identify knowledge, attitudes, practices, and related factors of reproductive health among adolescent post-abortion or those seeking abortion at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital (HOGH), a tertiary hospital in Vietnam. Methods Ours was a descriptive cross-sectional study of 103 adolescents who sought induced abortions between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023. Participants were interviewed directly via questionnaires to collect information. Results The mean age of participants was 16.3 years. 64.1% of the population did not have general knowledge regarding reproductive health, 42.7% of subjects displayed incorrect attitudes regarding reproductive health. As a result, lack of knowledge and incorrect attitudes led to unsafe sex. The percentage of adolescents practicing unsafe sex is incredibly high (90.3%) thus causing unintended pregnancies. Education levels and family economic status were the main factors linked to knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding reproductive health. Conclusion Most adolescents seeking abortion had poor KAP regarding reproductive health. Their KAP of reproductive health were linked to levels of education and family economic status. The findings emphasize the need to provide reproductive health care information and services for adolescents, and the need for appropriate attention from both family and society to the target group. We believe this will result in the improvement of their health and the avoidance of unfortunate consequences.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sexual and reproductive health literacy is a key to attaining and maintaining sexual and reproductive health, especially among young people in low-income countries, such as sub-Saharan Africa. While the importance of sexual and reproductive health literacy is gaining wider recognition, studies on the topic have been mainly concentrated in high-income (developed) countries. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to provide a coherent summary and synthesis of the available evidence on sexual and reproductive health literacy among young people in sub-Saharan Africa, with implications for policy, interventions, and research. METHODS The review was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute's methodology for reviews and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses reporting guideline to enhance the clarity and transparency of the reporting process. PubMed, CINAHL, AJOL, AIM, and Google Scholar were searched for evidence from 18 March to 20 May 2022. RESULTS The search provided 2,682 articles in total, of which only 24 met the eligibility criteria and were included in this review. The findings revealed persistent sexual and reproductive health information/knowledge gaps, poor sexual and reproductive health-related knowledge and practices, lack of exercising sexual and reproductive health knowledge, and multiple determinants of sexual and reproductive health literacy among young people, ranging from personal to larger structural conditions. CONCLUSION The review found that sexual and reproductive health literacy among young people in sub-Saharan Africa is concerning and has not been fully researched. A deeper understanding of the issue is essential for designing and implementing effective interventions to improve sexual and reproductive health literacy and health outcomes among young people.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Globally, there is a treatment gap for substance use treatment and harm reduction services. As peer-delivered interventions expand to address this gap in both high-income countries (HICs) and low and middle-income countries (LMICs), they provide an opportunity to examine mutual capacity building, the bidirectional exchange of ideas between distinct settings to address common challenges. METHODS The aim of this study was to explore the perspectives of patients in Cape Town and Baltimore about the acceptability and feasibility of a peer-delivered intervention using a combined qualitative analysis across a HIC and LMIC. Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with participants in pilot trials in Cape Town, South Africa and Baltimore, USA (n=55). Across both trials, participants received a peer-delivered behavioral intervention focused on problem solving strategies for medication adherence, behavioral activation, and other cognitive-behavioral skills. The datasets from each location were merged and analyzed jointly using thematic analysis to develop codes and themes. Transcripts were coded to theoretical saturation (n=21 from Baltimore, n=16 from Cape Town). RESULTS Participants highlighted what they valued about the peer-delivered intervention: 1) behavioral skills learned, 2) relationship with the peer, 3) ability to help others based on what they learned, 4) improved adherence to HIV or substance use medications, and 5) changes in substance use behaviors. In Baltimore, participants were typically more focused on their supportive relationship with the peer, which contrasted with many other relationships in their lives. In Cape Town, many participants highlighted the value of the skills they learned, such as mindfulness and activity scheduling. CONCLUSIONS Across sites, participants valued that the peer could support them to accomplish meaningful life goals beyond substance use recovery, such as building relationships or health. Differences between settings may highlight the importance of tailoring peer interventions to fill context-specific gaps in available services.

Abstract
Background Globally, young people are faced with sexual and reproductive health challenges such as unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections and unsafe abortions which result from limited knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and poor utilization of the available services. The purpose of this study was to assess the sexual and reproductive health knowledge, pattern of service utilization, and the associated factors among young males in slum communities of Mushin Local Government Area (L.G.A), Lagos State, Nigeria. Methods The study was conducted among young males, 15-24 years in Mushin Local Government Area, Lagos State, Nigeria. Data was collected using a pre-tested structured questionnaire that consisted of three domains with 57 questions, and was interviewer-administered. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 422 participants. Descriptive statistics, bivariate analysis, and binary logistic regression were carried out using SPSS version 20. Results The mean age of the respondents was 21.01 years ± 2.00, and 73.06% of the respondents had good knowledge of sexual and reproductive health. 52.85% of the respondents had poor knowledge regarding the likely occurrence of pregnancy at mid-menstrual cycle. Nearly two-third (64%) of the respondents have ever visited a health facility for sexual and reproductive health service. Ethnicity(AOR = 2.73), access to the internet(AOR = 1.77) and having ever had sex(AOR = 1.96) were significantly associated with the utilization of the services. Conclusion Good knowledge of sexual and reproductive health was observed among the respondents, although misconceptions still exist. Service utilization, however, remains low due to some individual and socio-cultural factors. It is therefore important to increase awareness of Sexual and Reproductive Health, and make the services available and affordable to young people for increased uptake.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Globally and in South Africa, university students' knowledge of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) is low. This study was conducted in response to the dearth of information about the sexual and reproductive health knowledge of postgraduate students. Research conducted to explore the SRH knowledge of undergraduate students suggests that the level of SRH knowledge among undergraduate students is low. The aim of this study was to determine the SRH knowledge of postgraduate students with regards to contraceptives, sexually transmitted illnesses (STI), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), Pap smear and clinical breast examination at University of Cape Town (UCT), in South Africa. METHOD A cross sectional survey design was utilized, using an adapted and pretested online questionnaire. The aim of this study was to determine the SRH knowledge of postgraduate students at the UCT. Minor adjustments were made to the questionnaire to suit the South African context. Selected aspects of SRH were included in the current study: knowledge and use of contraceptives, Pap smear, clinical breast examination, STIs and HIV. These variables were considered to be general enough to be answerable by male and female respondents and are the most important considerations in reproductive health care in South Africa, as there is a high prevalence of STIs, HIV and cervical and breast cancers. All postgraduate students enrolled in the first semester of 2017 (9444) were invited to anonymously complete the online survey. Data was exported to the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23.0 and analysed using descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, frequencies and percentages. RESULTS Four hundred and six (406) students completed the online survey, of whom 293 were female and 107 males. The age range of respondents was between 18 and 57 years, with the median age for both male and female respondents being 24 years. Six survey responses were excluded from the statistical analysis because of incomplete data. Post graduate students from the African continent comprised 90.75% of the respondents. Most respondents were white (51.50%) from both Africa and abroad. The results indicated that respondents knew about sexually transmitted infections, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Female respondents were more aware of breast examination, and the role of Papanicolaou smear (Pap smear) in SRH. Almost half of the respondents in this study (49%) stated that they had no need for more information about contraceptives. Lecturers were identified as one of the top five sources of information, which suggests that the university environment provides students with important SRH-related information. CONCLUSION Most postgraduate students had knowledge of sexual and reproductive health with regards to contraception, Pap smear, clinical breast examination, STIs, HIV and AIDS. Further research should focus on the relationship between SRH knowledge and usage among this population. As university lecturers were identified as an important source of information across faculties, the University should consider the incorporation of SRH education in the broader curriculum and as an integral component of student health services.

Abstract
BACKGROUND South Africa has one of the highest burdens of adolescents with perinatally-acquired HIV (APHIV) in the world. APHIV in South Africa have limited access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education and services specific to their HIV status. When lacking comprehensive SRH education, APHIV are prone to sexual risk behaviors that can lead to unintended pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and HIV transmission. The use of mHealth interventions has been shown to deliver information, foster social support, and improve decision-making skills. In this study, we evaluate how an mHealth intervention influences sexual health knowledge and behaviors in APHIV. METHODS We purposively enrolled adolescents from the intervention arm of a randomized clinical trial assessing a multi-module, moderated WhatsApp-based intervention-Interactive Transition Support for Adolescents Living with HIV (InTSHA)-within a government supported clinic in KwaMashu, an urban township of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. We conducted in-depth interviews based on World Health Organization guidelines for asking adolescents about SRH. We thematically analyzed data through an iterative, team-based coding approach combining deductive and inductive elements to contextualize SRH attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors before and after receiving the InTSHA intervention. RESULTS Of the 21 participants, 13 (61.9%) were female and the mean age was 16.6 years. Most participants reported first learning about SRH as young teenagers in school through non-targeted and negative ways, seeking clarification through peers and the internet rather than clinicians or caregivers. Participants reported that InTSHA provided a holistic perspective on relationships, gender, and sexuality specific to growing up with HIV in South Africa. They praised the ability to give and receive information from peers in a moderated setting through the mHealth intervention, building their confidence, decision-making skills, and communication with partners and caregivers throughout their everyday lives. Despite reporting some technological challenges, adolescents agreed that InTSHA was convenient, confidential, and user-friendly. CONCLUSIONS South African APHIV receive incomplete and conflicting sexual education from peers, caregivers, teachers, and technology that can be supplemented by mHealth curricula targeted for the unique needs of APHIV. Future, scaled-up mHealth interventions can lower SRH stigma by expanding access to sexual education and peer support, supplementing adolescents' existing SRH education.

Abstract
In India, the prevalent stigma and taboos regarding sexuality prevent adolescents from acquiring information about sexual and reproductive health. This review assessed the school-based interventions for adolescents designed to enhance their sexual health knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. Studies were gathered from 4 online databases: PubMed, DOAJ, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect. Relevant studies conducted in India among adolescents, published in peer-reviewed journals between 2000 and 2020, available in the public domain and written in English, were considered for the review. 14 studies were selected through database searches that fulfilled the eligibility criteria. Findings highlighted that school-based sexuality education positively influences adolescents to develop their knowledge, attitude, and behavior related to sexual and reproductive health outcomes. Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) programs and interventions are limited to small-scale experiments conducted in a few schools. The researchers recommend educating adolescents about pregnancy prevention, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), sexual hygiene, and reproductive health. Comprehensive reproductive health education programs should be implemented in every school setting to ensure that all school-going adolescents are convinced of the importance of sexual and reproductive health.

Abstract
This mini review explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on adolescent sexual and reproductive health. We conducted a rapid review of the literature across three databases, with a particular focus on the African continent. Few studies have specifically focused on adolescents in Africa and this paper contributes to this paucity of research. Findings revealed the unintended consequences of the pandemic. Studies across several countries showed that the respective lockdown measures restricted adolescents' access to sexual and reproductive health services. The literature also showed increases in adolescent pregnancies during the lockdown, along with increases in reports of sexual violence against adolescents. We conclude this paper by offering recommendations to address these unintended consequences and potentially improve adolescent sexual and reproductive health in African communities.

Abstract
Knowledge and attitude are essential components of food security as malnutrition remains a critical public health concern among adolescents. The study evaluates the effectiveness of a Triple Benefit Health Education Intervention on knowledge, attitude and food security towards malnutrition among adolescent girls. This was a cluster randomized controlled trial among 417 randomly selected adolescent girls aged 10 to 19 years old in Maiduguri, Borno state, Nigeria from October 2019 to March 2020. About 208 respondents were assigned to experimental while 209 to control group, respectively, using an opaque sealed envelope. A structured questionnaire using KoBo Collect Toolbox was used for the collection of data at baseline, three and six-months post intervention while the data collected were analyzed using generalized estimating equation (GEE). The outcome of the baseline shows no statistically significant difference in sociodemographic characteristics, knowledge, attitude and food security between experimental and control groups. The study reveals a statistically significant difference between experimental and control groups for knowledge (p < 0.001; p < 0.001), attitude (p < 0.001; p < 0.001) and food security (p = 0.026; p = 0.001) at three and six-months post intervention, respectively. The triple benefit health education intervention package employed in this study can serve as an intervention tool to combat malnutrition among adolescent girls in Nigeria at large.

Abstract
Adolescent pregnancy and early motherhood pose significant socioeconomic and health risks in Sub-Saharan Africa, leading to considerable morbidity and mortality. To learn more about the needs of this population, we reviewed 24 articles featuring 21 samples covering 12,490 adolescents from 14 countries. Our coding revealed that adolescent mothers were studied more (85.7% of samples) than pregnant adolescents (61.9%). We summarized needs as per six categories. Resource needs were most prevalent, reported by 100% of samples, followed by ecology (85.7%), mental health (76.2%), medical (61.9%), other (61.9%), and education (33.3%). The most frequently reported resource needs were low income and unemployment. Low social support, low family functioning, and exposure to negative cultural norms were ecological needs prevalent in most samples. Among mental health concerns, depression was the most commonly reported problem, whereas other problems, such as anxiety, substance use, and suicidality, were reported much less frequently. HIV-positive status was the most frequently reported medical concern. Intervention developers should consider the range of challenges when designing psychosocial services for this population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this paper is to share the results of a systematic review on the state of inequalities in access to and utilization of maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) services in the sub-Saharan African region. The focus of the review was on urban settings where growing needs and challenges have been registered over the past few years due to rapid increase in urban populations and urban slums. METHODS The review was conducted according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Studies published in English between 2000 and 2019 were included. A narrative synthesis of both qualitative and quantitative data was undertaken. The record for registration in PROSPERO was CRD42019122066. RESULTS The review highlights a great variation in MNCH services utilization across urban sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The main aspects of vulnerability to unequal and poor MNCH services utilization in urban settings of the region include poverty, low level of education, unemployment, lower socioeconomic status and poor livelihoods, younger maternal age, low social integration and social support, socio-cultural taboos, residing in slums, and being displaced, refugee, or migrant. At the health system level, persistent inequalities are associated with distance to health facility, availability of quality services and discriminating attitudes from health care personnel. CONCLUSION Context-specific intervention programs that aim at resolving the identified barriers to access and use MNCH services, particularly for the most vulnerable segments of urban populations, are essential to improve the overall health of the region and universal health coverage (UHC) targets.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The literature posits that HIV knowledge is associated with precautious sexual behaviour and practice. We hypothesised and investigated the association between knowledge of HIV transmission and adolescent pregnancy in Ghana, given that the relationship between HIV knowledge and adolescent pregnancy has not been extensively studied. METHODS We did analyses on 5836 cases (weighted as 5121) of 15-24 years old reproductive age women in the female dataset of the 2017 Multiple Cluster Indicator Survey. Adolescent pregnancy was operationalized as reproductive age women between 15-24 years who became pregnant before the age of 18 years. Accurate HIV knowledge was measured by computing the scores of correct responses on six questions exploring women's knowledge about HIV transmission. We accounted for sample design and weight before performing a Chi-square test of independence and Poisson regression. RESULTS The results indicate that having lower scores on the HIV transmission knowledge scale was correlated with a higher probability of girls becoming pregnant before their 18th birthday. After controlling for the moderating effect of socio-demographic characteristics of the participants, we found that accurate HIV transmission knowledge loses its statistical significance in determining adolescent pregnancy. The factors that remain significant in the adjusted model were formal education status, household wealth, and region of residence. HIV transmission knowledge was statistically significantly related to adolescent pregnancy in the model after the education level variable was omitted. This observation was due to the significant effect of school education on other variables in the model. This result demonstrates that HIV knowledge has a major impact on adolescent pregnancy, but this effect is predicated by formal education attainment of the adolescent girl. CONCLUSIONS Given the results, adolescent pregnancy issues can be resolved by the government and other development partners by adequately educating adolescents about HIV transmissions. Also, because they have the potential to reduce pregnancy among adolescents in Ghana, we recommend that programs and initiatives should address existing disparities in formal educational attainment and household wealth.

Abstract
Adequate health literacy is important for strong health outcomes during pregnancy, particularly among mothers with high risk of adverse outcomes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Understanding the health literacy of young pregnant women in low-income settings could support strategies to reduce adverse outcomes in this population. This exploratory study assessed the health literacy of young pregnant adolescents and young adults from a rural area in Northeast Brazil and associated factors such as socioeconomic conditions, adequacy of prenatal care, and social support from family and friends. In this cross-sectional study, 41 pregnant adolescents (13–18 years) and 45 pregnant adults (23–28 years) from the Rio Grande do Norte state, Brazil, were assessed regarding health literacy through the Short Assessment of Health Literacy for Portuguese-Speaking Adults (SAHLPA, score from 0–18, inadequate if <15). Income sufficiency, self-perceived school performance, compliance with recommendations for adequate prenatal care, and social support were also assessed. A linear regression analysis was conducted to evaluate the variables associated with the SAHLPA score. Ninety-five percent of the adolescents and 53.3% of the adults (p < 0.001) presented inadequate health literacy. Adolescent age (β − 3.5, p < 0.001), poorer self-perceived school performance (β − 2.8, p < 0.001), and insufficient income for basic needs (β − 2.8, p = 0.014) were associated with worse SAHLPA scores. Adolescent mothers have higher rates of inadequate health literacy in this population. Policies are needed to improve access to health information for young populations from rural low-income areas.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adolescent pregnancy is a public health concern in Malawi as it is associated with high risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Almost 29% of adolescent women aged 15-19 years are already mothers and adolescent fertility rate is also high estimated at 136 per 1000 women. Therefore, the aim of the study was to explore knowledge of pregnant adolescents on importance of antenatal care and health promotion during pregnancy. METHODS A qualitative descriptive design was used to solicit information on significance of antenatal care and how adolescents promote their health during pregnancy. Data was collected from 77 pregnant adolescents, purposively sampled from Namitambo and Namadzi Heath Centres in Chiladzulu District, Malawi. A semi-structured interview guide was used for data collection. Data were analysed manually following principles of qualitative content analysis. RESULTS Themes that emerged from the qualitative data included: knowledge deficit on the purpose and benefits of antenatal care; knowledge deficit on services offered at antenatal care clinic; knowledge deficit on danger signs during antenatal period and antenatal emergency care; knowledge deficit on effects of alcohol and smoking; knowledge deficit on nutrition during pregnancy; and knowledge deficit on importance of rest during pregnancy. CONCLUSION This study has shown knowledge deficit among adolescent mothers that may contribute to poor pregnancy outcomes. Several factors could be attributed to such knowledge deficit. Therefore, healthcare systems and healthcare professionals have a responsibility to enhance health literacy of pregnant adolescents with an ultimate goal of improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes.

Abstract
Addressing the gap in knowledge, attitude, and practice among adolescent girls are important as malnutrition has a negative effect on their future generation. This study aimed to determine the knowledge, attitude, and practice of adolescent girls towards reducing malnutrition in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Borno State, Nigeria. This was a school-based cross-sectional study conducted among 612 adolescent girls (10 to 19 years old). KoBo collect toolbox was used for the data collection between 3 June and 31 July 2019. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify predictors of knowledge, attitude, and practice towards reducing malnutrition. The majority of respondents (451, 80.2%; 322, 57.3%) had poor knowledge and attitude towards reducing malnutrition respectively, 278 (49.5%) had poor practice towards reducing malnutrition. Schooling (GGSS; p = 0.022; Shehu Garbai; p = 0.003) was a significant predictor of knowledge. Religion (p = 0.023), information (p < 0.001) and motivation (p < 0.001) were significant predictors of attitude. School (GGSS; p < 0.001; GGC; p < 0.001; Shehu garbai; p < 0.001; Bulabulin; p = 0.030; Zajeri day; p = 0.049), education of father (p = 0.001), information (p = 0.026) and behavioral skill (p = 0.019) were significant predictors of practice. There is a need to focus on both school-based and community-based health education intervention to address the poor knowledge, attitude, and practice among adolescent girls for a healthier future.
