Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study examines the psychometric properties of the Child Health Utility 9D (CHU9D) proxy version administered to parents/caregivers of 2-4-year-old Australian children compared with Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory™ version 4.0 (PedsQL). METHODS Data collected in 2021/2022 from parents/caregivers of 2-4-year-olds from the Australian pediatric multi-instrument comparison study were used. Feasibility, ceiling/floor effects, test-retest reliability, convergent validity, known-group validity, and responsiveness were assessed. RESULTS A total of 842 caregivers completed the survey at baseline, with 513 completing the follow-up survey. The CHU9D did not demonstrate ceiling effects in the sample with special health care needs, with only 6% of respondents reporting best levels for all nine dimensions. CHU9D correlated with PedsQL moderately-to-strongly between comparable items (correlation coefficients 0.34-0.70). CHU9D was able to differentiate between groups with known health differences with moderate-to-large effect sizes (Cohen's d 0.58-2.03). Moderate test-retest reliability was found for CHU9D in those reporting no health change at a 2-day follow-up (ICC 0.52). A standard response mean (SRM) of 0.25-0.44 was found for children with changes in general health and a SRM of 0.72-0.82 for children who reported worsened health when developing new illnesses, indicating small-to-large responsiveness according to different definitions of health changes. Compared with PedsQL, CHU9D had similar known-group validity and responsiveness and slightly poorer test-retest reliability. CONCLUSION The CHU9D was found to be valid and reliable to measure health-related quality-of-life in children aged 2-4 years, although with relatively low test-retest reliability in some dimensions. Further development and validation work is warranted.

Abstract
Health systems in high-resource countries recognize the importance of making decisions about the services offered to the population based on scientific evidence. Producing this evidence is especially challenging in areas such as newborn care where the frequency of conditions is rare. However, methodological advances in the field of economic evaluation could change how this evidence is used in decision-making. This study aimed to investigate how decision-makers in the Canadian province of Quebec perceive the value of recent advances in economic evaluations for perinatal studies and how these advances might affect the offer of neonatal interventions in the public health care system. A qualitative study was conducted. A total of 10 policymakers were interviewed. A neo-institutional conceptual framework highlighting three dimensions, structure, power, and interpretive schemes, was used for data collection and analyses. Structural factors, interpretative schemes, and power management between the groups concerned concur to ensure that providing services to newborns is not hindered by the difficulty of producing evidence. They also ensure that the decisions regarding which disease to screen for take into consideration the specificity of neonatology, in particular, the social value given to children not captured by available evidence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Medical advancement has enabled children to survive congenital airway anomalies, rare diseases and critical illnesses with medical technology including tracheostomies and long-term ventilation to support breathing. This study aimed to assess (1) the validity of the EQ-TIPS and EQ-5D-Y-3L in children dependent on technology and (2) the impact of caring for these children on the EQ-5D-5L and CarerQoL. METHODS Caregivers of children aged 1 month to 18 years completed the EQ-TIPS or EQ-5D-Y-3L, Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) and Paediatric Tracheostomy Health Status Instrument (PTHSI) to reflect the child's health. In addition, caregivers self-completed the EQ-5D-5L and CarerQoL. Reports of problems on EQ dimensions were compared across age groups with the Fisher's exact test. Spearman and Pearson's correlation coefficients and Kruskal-Wallis H-test were used to explore the association between caregiver and child scores, concurrent validity, and known-group validity of the EQ-TIPS and EQ-5D-Y-3L. RESULTS Responses from 144 caregivers were collected, 66 for children aged 1 month to 4 years completing EQ-TIPS and 78 for children aged 5-18 years completing EQ-5D-Y-3L. The EQ-TIPS showed a higher report of no problems for social interaction for children aged 1-12 months (p = 0.040) than the older age groups, there were however no differences in the level sum score (LSS) or EQ Visual Analogue Scale scores between the age groups. The EQ-5D-Y-3L showed a significantly less report of problems for mobility (p = 0.013) and usual activities (p = 0.006) for children aged 5-7 years compared with children aged 8-12 and children aged 13-18 years. Similarly, the 5-7 years of age group had a significantly lower EQ-5D-Y-3L LSS compared with the older groups (H = 12.08, p = 0.002). The EQ-TIPS and EQ-5D-Y-3L showed moderate-to-strong associations with the PedsQL. EQ-TIPS median LSS was able to differentiate between groups on the clinical prognosis with a better health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in those where weaning from technology is possible compared with those where weaning is not possible (H = 18.98, p = 0.011). The EQ-5D-Y-3L can discriminate between breathing technology, where those with only a tracheostomy reported better HRQoL (H = 8.92, p = 0.012), and between mild and moderate clinical severity (H = 19.42, p < 0.001). Neither the PedsQL nor the PTHSI was able to discriminate between these groups across the age range. Caregiver and child HRQoL scores showed moderate-to-strong associations. CONCLUSIONS The EQ-TIPS and EQ-5D-Y-3L showed good validity in children dependent on the technology for breathing. The EQ-TIPS and EQ-5D-Y-3L LSS were all able to differentiate between children with known clinical variables and outperformed both the PedsQL and PTHSI, making them preferable for intervention research. The caregiver scores are associated with the child HRQoL scores and thus a spill-over should be accounted for in any interventions targeting this cohort. It is recommended that future studies investigate the reliability and responsiveness of these measures in children dependent on technology for breathing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Individuals born preterm (gestational age < 37 weeks) and/or at low birthweight (<2500 g) are at increased risk of health impairments from birth to adulthood. This review aimed to evaluate the psychometric performance of generic childhood-specific or childhood-compatible multi-attribute utility instruments (MAUIs) in preterm and/or low birthweight (PLB) populations. METHODS Searches covered seven databases, including studies that targeted childhood (aged < 18 years) and/or adult (≥18 years) PLB populations; provided psychometric evidence for generic childhood-specific or compatible MAUI(s) (any language version); and published in English. Eighteen psychometric properties were evaluated using a four-part criteria rating system. Data syntheses identified psychometric evidence gaps and summarised the psychometric assessment methods/results. RESULTS A total of 42 studies were included, generating 178 criteria rating outputs across four MAUIs: 17D, CHSCS-PS, HUI2, and HUI3. Moreover, 64.0% of outputs concerned the HUI3 MAUI, and 38.2% related to known-group validity. There was no evidence for five psychometric properties. Only 6.7% of outputs concerned reliability and proxy-child agreement. No MAUI outperformed others across all properties. The frequently applied HUI2 and HUI3 lacked content validity evidence. CONCLUSIONS This psychometric evidence catalogue should inform the selection of MAUI(s) suited to the specific aims of applications targeting PLB populations. Further psychometric research is warranted to address the gaps in psychometric evidence.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Few preference-weighted health-related quality-of-life measures exist for children under 5 years of age. Young children are substantial consumers of healthcare services. This project aims to assess EQ-5D-Y-3L's appropriateness in children aged 2 to 4 years and to coproduce with parents a suitable adaptation. METHODS Purposive sampling at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and Royal Children's Hospital was used to recruit parents or carers of children aged 2 to 4 years in Australia. Online focus groups were conducted consisting of 13 parents of healthy children, and 6 parents of children with moderate to severe health conditions. Parents provided feedback on each dimension of the proxy EQ-5D-Y-3L. Recordings were transcribed and thematic analysis was conducted. Qualitative findings guided the design of adaptations to the instrument. The adaptations were piloted to obtain feedback and refined to improve language translatability and comparability with other EuroQol instruments. RESULTS The adapted EQ-5D-Y-3L was considered generally acceptable by the parents. Parents provided a wide range of examples of how each domain related to their children, with varied examples provided across ages 2 to 4 years and health status. Additional or alternative wording was suggested by parents to improve the applicability of the instrument to this age group. One example of this was the change of the domain wording "walking about" to "movement"-ID5:"In this age group, movement is more important than walking." CONCLUSIONS The adapted EQ-5D-Y-3L has improved relevance for 2-4-year olds and appears easy to complete. Further testing of the adapted instrument is required to evaluate acceptability, reliability, and validity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Childhood multi-attribute utility instruments (MAUIs) can be used to measure health utilities in children (aged ≤ 18 years) for economic evaluation. Systematic review methods can generate a psychometric evidence base that informs their selection for application. Previous reviews focused on limited sets of MAUIs and psychometric properties, and only on evidence from studies that directly aimed to conduct psychometric assessments. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to conduct a systematic review of psychometric evidence for generic childhood MAUIs and to meet three objectives: (1) create a comprehensive catalogue of evaluated psychometric evidence; (2) identify psychometric evidence gaps; and (3) summarise the psychometric assessment methods and performance by property. METHODS A review protocol was registered with the Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO; CRD42021295959); reporting followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guideline. The searches covered seven academic databases, and included studies that provided psychometric evidence for one or more of the following generic childhood MAUIs designed to be accompanied by a preference-based value set (any language version): 16D, 17D, AHUM, AQoL-6D, CH-6D, CHSCS-PS, CHU9D, EQ-5D-Y-3L, EQ-5D-Y-5L, HUI2, HUI3, IQI, QWB, and TANDI; used data derived from general and/or clinical childhood populations and from children and/or proxy respondents; and were published in English. The review included 'direct studies' that aimed to assess psychometric properties and 'indirect studies' that generated psychometric evidence without this explicit aim. Eighteen properties were evaluated using a four-part criteria rating developed from established standards in the literature. Data syntheses identified psychometric evidence gaps and summarised the psychometric assessment methods/results by property. RESULTS Overall, 372 studies were included, generating a catalogue of 2153 criteria rating outputs across 14 instruments covering all properties except predictive validity. The number of outputs varied markedly by instrument and property, ranging from 1 for IQI to 623 for HUI3, and from zero for predictive validity to 500 for known-group validity. The more recently developed instruments targeting preschool children (CHSCS-PS, IQI, TANDI) have greater evidence gaps (lack of any evidence) than longer established instruments such as EQ-5D-Y, HUI2/3, and CHU9D. The gaps were prominent for reliability (test-retest, inter-proxy-rater, inter-modal, internal consistency) and proxy-child agreement. The inclusion of indirect studies (n = 209 studies; n = 900 outputs) increased the number of properties with at least one output of acceptable performance. Common methodological issues in psychometric assessment were identified, e.g., lack of reference measures to help interpret associations and changes. No instrument consistently outperformed others across all properties. CONCLUSION This review provides comprehensive evidence on the psychometric performance of generic childhood MAUIs. It assists analysts involved in cost-effectiveness-based evaluation to select instruments based on the application-specific minimum standards of scientific rigour. The identified evidence gaps and methodological issues also motivate and inform future psychometric studies and their methods, particularly those assessing reliability, proxy-child agreement, and MAUIs targeting preschool children.

Abstract
TB affects around 10.6 million people each year and there are now around 155 million TB survivors. TB and its treatments can lead to permanently impaired health and wellbeing. In 2019, representatives of TB affected communities attending the '1st International Post-Tuberculosis Symposium´ called for the development of clinical guidance on these issues. This clinical statement on post-TB health and wellbeing responds to this call and builds on the work of the symposium, which brought together TB survivors, healthcare professionals and researchers. Our document offers expert opinion and, where possible, evidence-based guidance to aid clinicians in the diagnosis and management of post-TB conditions and research in this field. It covers all aspects of post-TB, including economic, social and psychological wellbeing, post TB lung disease (PTLD), cardiovascular and pericardial disease, neurological disability, effects in adolescents and children, and future research needs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite a high paediatric tuberculosis (TB) burden globally, sensitive and specific diagnostic tools are lacking. In addition, no data exist on the impact of pulmonary TB on long-term child lung health in low- and middle-income countries. The prospective observational UMOYA study aims (1) to build a state-of-the-art clinical, radiological, and biological repository of well-characterised children with presumptive pulmonary TB as a platform for future studies to explore new emerging diagnostic tools and biomarkers for early diagnosis and treatment response; and (2) to investigate the short and long-term impact of pulmonary TB on lung health and quality of life in children. METHODS We will recruit up to 600 children (0-13 years) with presumptive pulmonary TB and 100 healthy controls. Recruitment started in November 2017 and is expected to continue until May 2023. Sputum and non-sputum-based samples are collected at enrolment and during follow-up in TB cases and symptomatic controls. TB treatment is started by routine care services. Intensive follow-up for 6 months will allow for TB cases to retrospectively be classified according to international consensus clinical case definitions for TB. Long-term follow-up, including imaging, comprehensive assessment of lung function and quality of life questionnaires, are done yearly up to 4 years after recruitment. DISCUSSION The UMOYA study will provide a unique platform to evaluate new emerging diagnostic tools and biomarkers for early diagnosis and treatment response and to investigate long-term outcomes of pulmonary TB and other respiratory events on lung health in children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes a considerable disease burden in young children globally, but reliable estimates of RSV-related costs and health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) are scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the RSV-associated costs and HRQoL effects in infants and their caregivers in four European countries. METHODS Healthy term-born infants were recruited at birth and actively followed up in four European countries. Symptomatic infants were systematically tested for RSV. Caregivers recorded the daily HRQoL of their child and themselves, measured by a modified EQ-5D with Visual Analogue Scale, for 14 consecutive days or until symptoms resolved. At the end of each RSV episode, caregivers reported healthcare resource use and work absenteeism. Direct medical costs per RSV episode were estimated from a healthcare payer's perspective and indirect costs were estimated from a societal perspective. Means and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of direct medical costs, total costs (direct costs + productivity loss) and quality-adjusted life-day (QALD) loss per RSV episode were estimated per RSV episode, as well as per subgroup (medical attendance, country). RESULTS Our cohort of 1041 infants experienced 265 RSV episodes with a mean symptom duration of 12.5 days. The mean (95% CI) cost per RSV episode was €399.5 (242.3, 584.2) and €494.3 (317.7, 696.1) from the healthcare payer's and societal perspective, respectively. The mean QALD loss per RSV episode of 1.9 (1.7, 2.1) was independent of medical attendance (in contrast to costs, which also differed by country). Caregiver and infant HRQoL evolved similarly. CONCLUSION This study fills essential gaps for future economic evaluations by prospectively estimating direct and indirect costs and HRQoL effects on healthy term infants and caregivers separately, for both medically attended (MA) and non-MA laboratory-confirmed RSV episodes. We generally observed greater HRQoL losses than in previous studies which used non-community and/or non-prospective designs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The EuroQol Group is exploring the development of a health-related quality of life measure for toddlers and infant populations (EuroQoL Toddler and Infant Populations [EQ-TIPS]) aged 0 to 36 months. This study aimed to report on the cross-cultural adaptation and validity of the South African Afrikaans EQ-TIPS. METHODS The development of the Afrikaans EQ-TIPS followed the EuroQol guidelines including forward-backward translation and cognitive interviews with 10 caregivers of children aged 0 to 36 months. Thereafter, 162 caregivers of children 0 to 36 months of age were recruited from a pediatric hospital inpatient and outpatient facility. The EQ-TIPS; Ages and Stages Questionnaire; face, legs, activity, cry, and consolability; and dietary information were completed by all caregivers. The distribution of dimension scores, Spearman's correlation, analysis of variance, and regression analysis were used to explore the validity of the EQ-TIPS. RESULTS The descriptive system of the EQ-TIPS was generally well understood and accepted by caregivers. The correlation coefficients for concurrent validity were significant and moderate for pain and weak and significant for the other dimensions hypothesized to correlate. Known groups were compared and inpatients had a significantly higher report of pain (χ2 = 7.47, P = .024) and more problems reported across all EQ-TIPS dimensions (recorded on the level sum score) (Kruskal Wallis H = 3.809, P = .05) and reported significantly worse health on the visual analog scale (Kruskal Wallis H = 15.387, P < .001). There were no age-related differences except for a lower report of problems with movement in the 0- to 12-month group (χ2 = 10.57, P = .032). CONCLUSION The Afrikaans version of the EQ-TIPS is well understood and accepted by caregivers and valid for use with children aged 0 to 36 months in South Africa.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to determine the validity and reliability of the EQ-5D-Y-3L interviewer-administered (IA) version in South African children aged 5-7-years compared to 8-10-years. METHODS Children aged 5-10-years (n = 388) were recruited from healthcare facilities, schools for learners with special educational needs and mainstream schools across four known condition groups: chronic respiratory illnesses, functional disabilities, orthopaedic conditions and the general population. All children completed the EQ-5D-Y-3L IA, Moods and Feelings Questionnaire (MFQ), Faces Pain Scale-Revised (FPS-R) and a functional independence measure (WeeFIM) was completed by the researcher. Cognitive debriefing was done after the EQ-5D-Y-3L IA to determine comprehensibility. Test-retest of the EQ-5D-Y-3L IA was done 48 h later and assessed using Cohen's kappa (k). RESULTS Results from children aged 5-7-years (n = 177) and 8-10-years (n = 211) were included. There were significantly higher reports of problems in the Looking After Myself dimension in the 5-7-year-olds (55%) compared to the 8-10-year-olds (28%) (x2 = 31.021; p = 0.000). The younger children took significantly longer to complete the measure (Mann-Whitney U = 8389.5, p < 0.001). Known-group validity was found at dimension level with children receiving orthopaedic management reporting more problems on physical dimensions across both age-groups. Convergent validity between Looking After Myself and WeeFIM items of self-care showed moderate to high correlations for both age-groups with a significantly higher correlation in the 8-10-year-olds for dressing upper (z = 2.24; p = 0.013) and lower body (z = 2.78; p = 0.003) and self-care total (z = 2.01; p = 0.022). There were fair to moderate levels of test-retest reliability across age-groups. CONCLUSION The EQ-5D-Y-3L IA showed acceptable convergent validity and test-retest reliability for measuring health in children aged 5-7-years. There was more report of problems with the dimension of Looking After Myself in the 5-7-year group due to younger children requiring help with dressing, including buttons and shoelaces due to their developmental age, rather than their physical capabilities. Therefore, it may be useful to include examples of age-appropriate dressing tasks. There was further some reported difficulty with thinking about the dimensions in the younger age-group, most notably for Usual Activities which includes a large number of examples. By decreasing the number of examples it may reduce the burden of recall for the younger age-group.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To translate Quality of Life of the Infant (QUALIN), cross-culturally adapt the Hindi version of QUALIN (Hi-QUALIN), and evaluate its psychometric properties in children. METHODS This cross-sectional study was performed at the tertiary-care center in North India over 21 mo (April 2019 to January 2021). Healthy children (aged 3 to 36 mo) visiting the hospital for vaccination, minor ailments, routine health checkup, and accompanying an ill sibling were included. Children with infantile spasms in same age group were also included. Hindi translations were carried out by bilingual translators who could fluently communicate and write in Hindi and English. Standard Hindi was used to avoid the misinterpretation or misunderstanding. Discriminant and Construct validity was determined utilizing the known-groups method and factor analysis. Reliability was analysed as internal consistency and test-retest reliability. RESULTS Four hundred and sixty-four children were recruited through opportunity sample selection method with statistically significant difference between healthy and unhealthy children in total score of Hi-QUALIN (3-12 mo) and (13-36 mo). Finally, Hi-QUALIN (3-12 mo and 13-36 mo) consisted of 29 and 30 items constituting the five extracted factors respectively. Overall internal consistency was excellent (α = 0.92 and 0.88, respectively). Intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) were 0.84 (95% CI: 0.78-0.89; p <0.0001) and 0.94 (95% CI: 0.93-0.96; p <0.0001) indicating excellent test-retest reliability. CONCLUSIONS Hi-QUALIN has good psychometric properties and can be used for health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measurement in young children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is increasing interest in the validation of pediatric preference-based health-related quality of life measurement instruments. It is critical that children with various degrees of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) impact are included in validation studies. To inform patient sample selection for validation studies from a pragmatic perspective, this study explored HRQoL impairments between known-groups and HRQoL changes over time across 27 common chronic child health conditions and identified conditions with the largest impact on HRQoL. METHODS The health dimensions of two common preference-based HRQoL measures, the EQ-5D-Y and CHU9D, were constructed using Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory items that overlap conceptually. Data was from the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children, a nationally representative sample with over 10,000 children at baseline. Seven waves of data were included for the analysis, with child age ranging from 2 to18 years. Impacts to specific health dimensions and overall HRQoL between those having a specific condition versus not were compared using linear mixed effects models. HRQoL changes over time were obtained by calculating the HRQoL differences between two consecutive time points, grouped by "Improved" and "Worsened" health status. Comparison among various health conditions and different age groups (2-4 years, 5-12 years and 13-18 years) were made. RESULTS Conditions with the largest statistically significant total HRQoL impairments of having a specific condition compared with not having the condition were recurrent chest pain, autism, epilepsy, anxiety/depression, irritable bowel, recurrent back pain, recurrent abdominal pain, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) for the total sample (2-18 years). Conditions with largest HRQoL improvement over time were anxiety/depression, ADHD, autism, bone/joint/muscle problem, recurrent abdominal pain, recurrent pain in other part, frequent headache, diarrhea and day-wetting. The dimensions included in EQ-5D-Y and CHU9D can generally reflect HRQoL differences and changes. The HRQoL impacts to specific health dimensions differed by condition in the expected direction. The conditions with largest HRQoL impacts differed by age group. CONCLUSIONS The conditions with largest HRQoL impact were identified. This information is likely to be valuable for recruiting patient samples when validating pediatric preference-based HRQoL instruments pragmatically.

Abstract
Purpose We performed this systematic review to summarize the psychometric properties of Face, Legs, Activity, Cry and Consolability (FLACC) scale in pediatric patients in different settings. Methods Two investigators independently searched PubMed, EMBASE, OVID and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) for eligible studies through July 2021. We assessed the psychometric properties using the modified critical appraisal tool (CAT). Finally, we systematically reviewed the results of the included studies. Results A total of 15 studies were eventually included. The overall quality of each eligible study was low to moderate. The FLACC scale has been available in different versions and in different settings. Although eligible studies have demonstrated significant clinical benefit in assessing postoperative pain in pediatric patients aged 0 to 10 years from post-anesthetic care unit (PACU), pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and inpatient unit, and in assessing procedural pain in pediatric patients aged 0.5 to 7 years from emergency unit, immunization center and PICU, mostly without test-retest analysis. Conclusion Although the absence of a gold standard of pain assessment, the currently available data support the usefulness of the FLACC from the perspective of criterion validity. Therefore, the FLACC scale can be considered for measuring observational pain in infants and children. However, further studies are still needed to provide more robust evidence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) for children (aged ≤ 18 years) present methodological challenges. PROMs can be categorised by their diverse underlying conceptual bases, including functional, disability and health (FDH) status; quality of life (QoL); and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Some PROMs are designed to be accompanied by preference weights. PROMs should account for childhood developmental differences by incorporating age-appropriate health/QoL domains, guidance on respondent type(s) and design. This systematic review aims to identify generic multidimensional childhood PROMs and synthesise their characteristics by conceptual basis, target age, measurement considerations, and the preference-based value sets that accompany them. METHODS The study protocol was registered in the Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42021230833), and reporting followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. We conducted systematic database searches for generic multidimensional childhood PROMs covering the period 2012-2020, which we combined with published PROMs identified by an earlier systematic review that covered the period 1992-2011. A second systematic database search identified preference-based value sets for generic multidimensional PROMs. The PROMs were categorised by conceptual basis (FDH status, QoL and HRQoL) and by target age (namely infants and pre-schoolers aged < 5 years, pre-adolescents aged 5-11, adolescents aged 12-18 and multi-age group coverage). Descriptive statistics assessed how PROM characteristics (domain coverage, respondent type and design) varied by conceptual basis and age categories. Involvement of children in PROM development and testing was assessed to understand content validity. Characteristics of value sets available for the childhood generic multidimensional PROMs were identified and compared. RESULTS We identified 89 PROMs, including 110 versions: 52 FDH, 29 QoL, 12 HRQoL, nine QoL-FDH and eight HRQoL-FDH measures; 20 targeted infants and pre-schoolers, 29 pre-adolescents, 24 adolescents and 37 for multiple age groups. Domain coverage demonstrated development trajectories from observable FDH aspects in infancy through to personal independence and relationships during adolescence. PROMs targeting younger children relied more on informant report, were shorter and had fewer ordinal scale points. One-third of PROMs were developed following qualitative research or surveys with children or parents for concept elicitation. There were 21 preference-based value sets developed by 19 studies of ten generic multidimensional childhood PROMs: seven were based on adolescents' stated preferences, seven were from adults from the perspective of or on behalf of the child, and seven were from adults adopting an adult's perspective. Diverse preference elicitation methods were used to elicit values. Practices with respect to anchoring values on the utility scale also varied considerably. The range and distribution of values reflect these differences, resulting in value sets with notably different properties. CONCLUSION Identification and categorisation of generic multidimensional childhood PROMs and value sets by this review can aid the development, selection and interpretation of appropriate measures for clinical and population research and cost-effectiveness-based decision-making.

Abstract
The Toddler and Infant (TANDI) dimensions of Health-Related Quality of Life assess 'age appropriate' behaviour and measurement could be extended to older children. A sample of 203 children 3-4 years of age was recruited, and their caregivers completed the TANDI, Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) and EQ-5D-Y Proxy. Spearman and Pearson's correlation coefficients, and Kruskal-Wallis H-test were used to explore the feasibility, known-group validity, discriminate validity and concurrent validity of the TANDI. Children with a health condition (n = 142) had a lower ceiling effect (p = 0.010) and more unique health profiles (p < 0.001) than the healthy group (n = 61). The TANDI discriminated between those with and without a health condition. In children with a health condition, the TANDI discriminated between clinician rated severity of the health condition. The TANDI had moderate to strong correlations with similar PedsQL and EQ-5D-Y items and scores. The TANDI is valid for children aged 3-4 years and is recommended for children with a health condition, whereas the PedsQL may be better for healthy children. The TANDI is recommended for studies with young children whereas the EQ-5D-Y Proxy is recommended for a sample including older children or for longitudinal studies with preschoolers. Further work on the TANDI is recommended to establish test-retest reliability and responsiveness.

Abstract
Background: There is a lack of psychometric evidence about pediatric health-related quality of life (HRQoL) instruments. Evidence on cost effectiveness, involving the measurement of HRQoL, is used in many countries to make decisions about pharmaceuticals, technologies, and health services for children. Additionally, valid instruments are required to facilitate accurate outcome measurement and clinical decision making. A pediatric multi instrument comparison (P-MIC) study is planned to compare the psychometric performance and measurement characteristics of pediatric HRQoL instruments. Methods: The planned P-MIC study will collect data on approximately 6100 Australian children and adolescents aged 2–18 years via The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne and online survey panels. Participants will complete an initial survey, involving the concurrent collection of a range of pediatric HRQoL instruments, followed by a shorter survey 2–8 weeks later, involving the collection of a subset of instruments from the initial survey. Children aged ≥7 years will be asked to self-report HRQoL. Psychometric performance will be assessed at the instrument, domain, and item level. Conclusions: This paper describes the methodology of the planned P-MIC study, including benefits, limitations, and likely challenges. Evidence from this study will guide the choice of HRQoL measures used in clinical trials, economic evaluation, and other applications.
