Abstract
INTRODUCTION Sufficient levels of vitamin D have been associated with higher chances for both clinical pregnancy and live birth among women undergoing assisted reproductive techniques, whereas low levels of maternal vitamin D have been associated with preeclampsia and late miscarriage. In Denmark, subgroups at risk for low vitamin D levels, including neonates and toddlers, are recommended to use supplementation. The aim was to study the level of vitamin D3 among neonates born after in vitro fertilization compared with neonates from the general population. MATERIAL AND METHODS In this cohort study a random sample of 1326 neonates representing the general population and 1200 neonates conceived by in vitro fertilization born in Denmark from 1995 to 2002 were identified from registries covering the whole Danish population. Information on use of assisted reproduction was collected from the Danish In Vitro Fertilization register, ICD-10 code: DZ358F. 25-Hydroxyvitamin D was measured from dried blood spots routinely collected by heel prick 48-72 h after birth and corrected according to the hematocrit fraction for capillary blood of neonates. Linear regression analysis was performed, both crude and adjusted, for predefined putative confounders, identified through directed acyclic graphs. RESULTS Vitamin D3 analysis could be performed from a total of 1105 neonates from the general population and 1072 neonates conceived by in vitro fertilization that were subsequently included in the study. The median vitamin D3 was 24.0 nmol/L (interquartile range [IQR] 14.1-39.3) and 33.0 nmol/L (IQR 21.3-48.8) among neonates from the general population and neonates conceived by in vitro fertilization, respectively. The adjusted mean difference between neonates from the general population and those conceived by in vitro fertilization was 6.1 nmol/L (95% confidence interval 4.1-8.1). CONCLUSIONS In this study, children born after in vitro fertilization have a higher vitamin D3 than a random sample of neonates in Denmark.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Gui Shen Wan (GSW) stands out as a promising therapeutic approach for addressing Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). With deep roots in traditional medicine, GSW highlights the ethnopharmacological significance of herbal interventions in addressing nuanced aspects of women's health, with a specific emphasis on ovarian functionality. Recognizing the importance of GSW in gynecological contexts resonates with a rich tradition of using botanical formulations to navigate the intricacies of reproductive health. Delving into GSW's potential for treating POI emphasizes the crucial role of ethnopharmacological insights in guiding modern research endeavors. AIM OF THE STUDY GSW is extensively utilized in gynecological disorders and has recently emerged as a potential therapeutic approach for POI. The present investigation aimed to assess the efficacy of GSW in treating POI in rats and elucidate its underlying molecular mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study employed GSW for POI treatment in rats. GSW, prepared as pills, underwent HPLC fingerprinting for quality control. Reagents and drugs, including VCD and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), were sourced from reputable providers. Eighty Sprague-Dawley rats were categorized into groups for POI induction and treatment. Ovarian tissue underwent HE staining, immunohistochemical staining, Western Blot, qRT-PCR, and vaginal secretion testing. ELISA was utilized for target molecule detection. This methodology ensures a robust and reliable experimental framework. RESULTS The results highlight a robust collaborative improvement in POI among rats subjected to combined GSW and DHEA treatment. Particularly noteworthy is the substantial enhancement in the expression of vascular regeneration-related molecules-VDR-Klotho-VEGFR-accompanied by a significant elevation in autophagy levels. Post-GSW administration, rat ovarian morphology demonstrated increased stability, hormone levels exhibited more consistent maintenance, and there was a marked reduction in inflammatory response compared to other groups (p < 0.01). Furthermore, GSW intervention resulted in a more pronounced upregulation of ovarian autophagy (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION By modulating VDR-Klotho signaling, GSW exerts regulatory control over ovarian autophagy and vascular regeneration, thereby mitigating the occurrence and progression of POI in rats.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent studies have revealed the correlation between serum vitamin D (VD) level and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), but the causality and specific mechanisms remain uncertain. OBJECTIVE We aimed to investigate the cause-effect relationship between serum VD and PCOS, and the role of testosterone in the related pathological mechanisms. METHODS We assessed the causality between serum VD and PCOS by using genome-wide association studies (GWAS) data in a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (TS-MR) analysis. Subsequently, a MR mediation analysis was conducted to examine the mediating action of testosterone in the causality between serum VD and PCOS. Ultimately, we integrated GWAS data with cis-expression quantitative loci (cis-eQTLs) data for gene annotation, and used the potentially related genes for functional enrichment analysis to assess the involvement of testosterone and the potential mechanisms. RESULTS TS-MR analysis showed that individuals with lower level of serum VD were more likely to develop PCOS (OR = 0.750, 95% CI: 0.587-0.959, P = 0.022). MR mediation analysis uncovered indirect causal effect of serum VD level on the risk of PCOS via testosterone (OR = 0.983, 95% CI: 0.968-0.998, P = 0.025). Functional enrichment analysis showed that several pathways may be involved in the VD-testosterone-PCOS axis, such as steroid hormone biosynthesis and autophagy process. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that genetically predicted lower serum VD level may cause a higher risk of developing PCOS, which may be mediated by increased testosterone production.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Low vitamin D status is prevalent among women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The objective of the study is to assess the effect of vitamin D supplementation on (1) the ovulation rate to letrozole and (2) other reproductive, endocrine and metabolic outcomes after 1 year of supplementation in women with PCOS. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This is a multicentre, randomised, double-blind, controlled clinical trial. A total of 220 anovulatory women with PCOS diagnosed by the Rotterdam criteria will be recruited. They will be randomly assigned to either the (1) vitamin D supplementation group or (2) placebo group. Those in the vitamin D group will take oral Vitamin D3 50 000 IU/week for 4 weeks, followed by 50 000 IU once every 2 weeks for 52 weeks. Those who remain anovulatory after 6 months will be treated with a 6-month course of letrozole (2.5 mg to 7.5 mg for 5 days per cycle titrated according to response) for ovulation induction. The primary outcome is the ovulation rate. All statistical analyses will be performed using intention-to-treat and per protocol analyses. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethics approval was sought from the Institutional Review Board of the participating units. All participants will provide written informed consent before joining the study. The results of the study will be submitted to scientific conferences and peer-reviewed journals. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER NCT04650880.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitamin D deficiency is common in pregnancy, however, its effects has not been fully elucidated. Here, we conducted targeted metabolomics profiling to study the relationship. METHODS This study enrolled 111 pregnant women, including sufficient group (n = 9), inadequate group (n = 49) and deficient group (n = 53). Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS)-based targeted metabonomics were used to characterize metabolite profiles associated with vitamin D deficiency in pregnancy. RESULTS Many metabolites decreased in the inadequate and deficient group, including lipids, amino acids and others. The lipid species included fatty acyls (FA 14:3, FA 26:0; O), glycerolipids (MG 18:2), glycerophospholipids (LPG 20:5, PE-Cer 40:1; O2, PG 29:0), sterol lipids (CE 20:5, ST 28:0; O4, ST 28:1; O4). Decreased amino acids included aromatic amino acids (tryptophan, phenylalanine, tyrosine) and branched-chain amino acids (valine, isoleucine, leucine), proline, methionine, arginine, lysine, alanine, L-kynurenine,5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan, allysine. CONCLUSIONS This targeted metabolomics profiling indicated that vitamin D supplementation can significantly affect lipids and amino acids metabolism in pregnancy.

Abstract
Gravity in space can have a negative impact on the reproductive system. Given that the reproductive system is one of vitamin D's objectives, this study will use a simulated microgravity model to evaluate its impact on the rat reproductive system.Twenty-two male Wistar rats were allocated into four groups at random. Under microgravity circumstances, the rats were housed in both special and standard cages. Each group was then separated into two subgroups, one of which received vitamin D3 and the other did not. Blood was drawn twice to determine blood levels of vitamin D3, LH, FSH, and testosterone. Rat testes were isolated for histological analysis, as well as a piece of epididymis for sperm count and morphological examination.Microgravity had a detrimental effect on testicular tissue, resulting in lower serum levels of LH and testosterone (p-value < 0.001). Spermatogenesis was largely inhibited under microgravity. During microgravity conditions, however, vitamin D3 had a good effect on testicular structure, and the total number of sperm. Simulated microgravity affects the male reproductive system, compromising testicular morphology, sperm parameters, and hormonal balance. However, this study shows that vitamin D3 supplementation can act as a preventative strategy, minimizing the negative consequences of microgravity. The beneficial effect of vitamin D3 on testicular health and sperm quality implies that it may be useful in protecting male reproductive function in space-related situations.

Abstract
Pregnancy and lactation are special life stages that require regular nutritional and medical attention to help protect the health of the mother and promote the growth and development of the offspring. Despite an increased focus on maternal and fetal health over the last several decades, the rates of pregnancy-related morbidity and mortality are increasing in the United States (US). On average, Black women who are pregnant or lactating face greater health disparities and birth complications than other racial/ethnic groups in the US. The issues contributing to these disparities are multi-faceted and include sociocultural, economic, medical, and dietary factors. For example, Black women face greater rates of food insecurity, worse access to healthcare, and lower nutrient status when compared to White women. A growing body of research suggests that consuming a healthier dietary pattern is one of the most potent modifiable risk factors associated with improved fertility and reducing pregnancy-related complications. Recent publications have also shed light on the role of dairy foods in improving diet quality and nutrient status among Black women and for impacting maternal and fetal health outcomes, such as preeclampsia, spontaneous abortion, preterm birth, and fetal growth. To support healthy pregnancy and lactation, the current national dietary guidelines recommend the consumption of 3 servings of dairy foods per day. However, the vast majority of Black women in the US are falling short of these recommendations and are not meeting nutrient requirements for calcium and vitamin D. Therefore, strategies that target misconceptions surrounding lactose intolerance and focus on the health value of adequate dairy intake among Black women of child-bearing age may benefit both prenatal and postpartum health. This review presents the current evidence on health disparities faced by pregnant and lactating Black women in the US, and the role of dairy foods in supporting healthy pregnancy, fetal development, and lactation outcomes in this population.

Abstract
Vitamin D receptors and vitamin D3-metabolizing enzymes have been found to be highly expressed in the ovaries and spermatophores of fish. However, the role of vitamin D3 on fish gonadal development has rarely been reported. In this study, 2-month-old female zebrafish were fed with different concentrations of vitamin D3 diets (0, 700, 1400, and 11 200 IU/kg) to investigate the effects of vitamin D3 on ovarian development. The diet with 0 IU/kg vitamin D3 resulted in elevated interstitial spaces, follicular atresia, and reproductive toxicity in zebrafish ovaries. Supplementation with 700 and 1400 IU/kg of vitamin D3 significantly increased the oocyte maturation rate; upregulated ovarian gonadal steroid hormone synthesis capacity; and elevated plasma estradiol, testosterone, and ovarian vitellogenin levels. Furthermore, the current study identified a vitamin D response element in the cyp19a1a promoter and demonstrated that 1.25(OH)2D3-vitamin D response directly activated cyp19a1a production through activating the vitamin D response element. In conclusion, this study shows that an appropriate concentration of vitamin D3 can promote zebrafish ovarian development and affect vitellogenin synthesis through the vdr/cyp19a1a/er/vtg gene axis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a prevailing endocrinopathy affecting a significant population of women of reproductive age across the globe. A myriad set of complex intertwined factors ranging from etiological, genetic, and epigenetic reasons cause this disorder. Out of the different factors, vitamin D shows an imperative aspect in health and fertility of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The importance of vitamin D is facilitated by vitamin D receptor (VDR), a ligand-dependent transcription factor in the steroid/ thyroid hormone receptor superfamily that controls the pleiotropic biological properties of vitamin D. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of promoter methylation of the VDR gene, a transcription factor with numerous biological utilities, with its relative expression and clinico-pathological findings and outcomes. METHODOLOGY A total of 200 blood samples were collected, 100 from PCOS case subjects, and 100 from the normal healthy controls respectively, which were assessed by qRT-PCR for determining the expression summary. MS-PCR technique was used for analyzing the promoter methylation status of the VDR gene. Blood samples were withdrawn, respectively, for each case and the control study separately experimented for different stages for the given study, of which estimation of vitamin D was also a part. RESULTS In this test-versus-control study, first, the promoter methylation status of VDR gene was identified which was found more prominent i.e., hyper-methylation of the VDR gene was identified in 84 cases (84%), and in the normal healthy controls, it was found (62%). The promoter methylation status of the VDR gene has remarkably shown the results with a significant difference (p value < 0.0001*). Second, the expression analysis of VDR gene was found to be strongly downregulated in majority (64%) of PCOS case samples analyzed by means fold change of 0.8743 (± 0.06466) (p value 0.0054**). This result is, therefore, indicative of VDR gene role in PCOS pathogenesis as the said gene is downregulated. Moreover, compared to the vitamin D parameter, hyper-methylation and expression analysis of the VDR promoter gene were found to correspond to some associations with PCOS. Certain case-and-control study analyses showed that patients with normal vitamin D levels showed less indicative effects of PCOS and vice versa. CONCLUSION Our study, being exclusive from Kashmir, one of the foremost specified that VDR confirms anomalous methylation configuration in PCOS with subsequent downregulation in the gene expression i.e., there is an inverse correlation among VDR gene expression (downregulated) and methylation status (hyper-methylated) from the conclusion of our PCOS case-versus-control study.

Abstract
Purpose To evaluate associations between hormone levels and corneal parameters in patients with keratoconus (KC), before and after photooxidative corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL). Design Prospective, observational cohort study. Participants Twenty-eight patients with KC who were scheduled for CXL at Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark. Methods Androgen (dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate [DHEA-S]) and estrogen (estrone and estriol) plasma levels were measured and clinical assessments were performed before CXL and 2 to 3 months post-CXL, comparing the CXL eye with the control eye from the same participant. Main Outcome Measures Associations between hormone levels and maximum corneal curvature (Kmax) and minimum central corneal thickness (CCtmin) before and after CXL. Results Corneal collagen crosslinking was associated with a 2% reduction in Kmax values in the CXL eye, post-CXL, from baseline (median, 56.8 diopters [D]; 95% confidence interval [CI], 50.4-60.3) to the second visit (55.7 D; 95% CI, 50.4-58.8; P < 0.001). Systemic DHEA-S levels were 5 to 6 orders of magnitude higher than estriol or estrone concentrations in plasma. Importantly, estriol levels, rather than DHEA-S or estrone levels, were more closely correlated with Kmax before CXL (Spearman's r = 0.55, P = 0.01). Post-CXL Kmax and CCtmin were not associated with DHEA-S, estrone, or estriol plasma levels at the same timepoint. Conclusions This study provides supporting evidence based on a KC clinical population that systemic estrogen levels may influence corneal parameters (curvature and thickness) pre-CXL. Further studies evaluating the interplay between the therapeutic benefits of CXL and systemic hormone distributions are needed to determine if perturbation of the local corneal microenvironment influences endocrine function. Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitamin D (Vit D) deficiency has been linked to symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), yet little is known about Vit D supplementation as a treatment for sexual dysfunction (SDy) in women with PCOS. AIM To explore the implications of serum total 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) and bioavailable 25[OH]D (bio-25[OH]D) status and replacement on women with PCOS and SDy. METHODS Reproductive-age women with PCOS who were not desiring fertility were eligible provided that they also had SDy, as assessed by the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), and were without severe depression, as evaluated by the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II). Participants were given the recommended dietary allowance of Vit D (600 IU daily) plus hormonal contraception (HC; cyclic ethinyl estradiol/drospirenone) or no HC for 6 months. Comparisons between groups were analyzed by chi-square test and t-test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient analyzed correlations between FSFI with demographics, BDI-II, androgen levels, and total and bio-25[OH]D. OUTCOMES The outcomes included SDy (FSFI <26.55), total and serum bio-25[OH]D levels, and total and free testosterone. RESULTS A total of 42 women without severe depression completed the FSFI, with 28 (66.7%) having SDy. All FSFI domains, including arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and pain, were significantly lower as compared with women without SDy, with no associations with respect to demographics, total and free testosterone, or total and bio-25[OH]D. Vit D replacement was initiated with HC (n = 18) or no HC (n = 10), and for those completing the study, FSFI improved (score >26.55) in 61% (11/18) regardless of the treatment group. A time-treatment effect showed a significant change for the domain of orgasm, suggesting that HC had more of an impact than Vit D replacement. Improvement in sexual function as a dichotomous variable was not associated with age, body mass index, other demographics, total and free testosterone, total and bio-25[OH]D, or HC use. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS Due to the prevalence of SDy in women with PCOS, efficacious treatment options are necessary. STRENGTHS AND LIMITATIONS This study is the first to analyze the effect of Vit D supplementation on SDy in women with PCOS. Limitations included the small number of participants who completed the study, thus limiting meaningful conclusions and generalizability. CONCLUSION Vit D status was not associated with SDy and BDI-II. While HC may have played a role, standard Vit D supplementation could not account for the noted improvement in FSFI in women with PCOS.

Abstract
RESEARCH QUESTION Does vitamin D affect the pregnancy rate of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) receiving ovulation-induction therapy? DESIGN The retrospective study included 200 patients with PCOS and 200 healthy women. The prospective study included 160 patients with PCOS receiving vitamin D or placebo supplementation. Pregnancy rates were assessed after a maximum of three cycles of ovulation induction. Serum concentrations of 25-hydroxycalciferol [25-(OH)D3], LH, FSH, progesterone, oestradiol, testosterone and fasting insulin; LH/FSH ratio; and body mass index were evaluated. RESULTS In the retrospective study, patients with PCOS had lower 25-(OH)D3 concentrations than healthy women, pregnant patients with PCOS had higher 25-(OH)D3 concentrations than non-pregnant patients with PCOS (both P = 0.000), and the pregnancy rate was lower in the vitamin-D-deficient group compared with the non-vitamin-D-deficient group (P = 0.022). In the prospective study, compared with placebo supplementation, vitamin D supplementation increased the serum concentration of 25-(OH)D3 (P = 0.000), and reduced the LH/FSH ratio, and concentrations of LH and testosterone significantly (all P ≤ 0.049). After the intervention, it was found that the LH/FSH ratio, and concentrations of LH and testosterone were significantly lower in both groups compared with pre-intervention (P = 0.000). After ovulation induction, the pregnancy rate was higher in patients in the vitamin D supplementation group compared with the placebo supplementation group (P = 0.049). CONCLUSIONS Vitamin D deficiency is common in patients with PCOS, and vitamin-D-deficient patients with PCOS have lower pregnancy rates after ovulation induction compared with non-vitamin-D-deficient patients with PCOS. Vitamin D supplementation can improve the pregnancy rate and mitigate basic hormone disorders. Therefore, monitoring vitamin D supplementation and checking vitamin D concentrations before and during interventions are essential for patients with PCOS.

Abstract
Cutaneous melanoma represents the fifth tumor in terms of incidence in young adults, with a major involvement of males than females. Despite the significant changes in available effective treatments for cutaneous melanoma, there is still a proportion of patients that do not benefit long-term disease control with immune checkpoint inhibitors and/or BRAF/MEK inhibitors, and eventually develop progressive disease. In addition to the emerging biomarkers under investigation to understand resistance to treatments, recent studies resumed the role of sex hormones (estrogens, progesterone and androgens) in melanoma patients. In the last decades, the impact of sex hormones has been considered controversial in melanoma patients, but actual growing preclinical and clinical evidence underline the potential influence on melanoma cells' growth, tumor microenvironment, the immune system and consequently on the course of disease.This review will provide available insights on the role of sex hormones in melanoma pathogenesis, disease progression and response/resistance to systemic treatments. We will also offer an overview on the recent studies on the theme, describing the hormonal contribution to disease response and the interaction with targeted therapies and immune-checkpoint inhibitors in cutaneous melanoma patients, illustrating an insight into future research in this field.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Despite the recent increase in infertility and perinatal complications, preconception care is not commonly available in Japan. Working women are considered to have the greatest need for preconception care, as increasingly they marry and have children later in life. This study aimed to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of preconception check-ups in the workplace. METHODS We provided 51 female employees aged 18-39 years with free preconception check-ups, including additional blood tests and an online medical questionnaire, during mandatory health check-ups at their workplace. A doctor provided online counseling based on the check-up results. We assessed fertility knowledge using the Cardiff Fertility Knowledge Scale (CFKS-J) and childbearing desire pre- and postintervention. RESULTS Preconception check-ups revealed various potential risk factors for future pregnancies, including underweight (12%), obesity (20%), Chlamydia trachomatis IgG antibody positivity (22%), low rubella IgG antibody levels (47%), iron deficiency (12%), and 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels <30 ng/mL (98%). Postintervention, the participants reported high satisfaction with the check-ups and significantly advanced their reproductive plans (P = .008). Furthermore, 95% of the participants indicated an intention to seek medical attention or make lifestyle changes. The postintervention CFKS-J score (mean [SD]) was higher than the preintervention score (71.7 [19.3] vs 63.0 [22.0]; P = .006). CONCLUSIONS We developed a preconception check-up package that can be integrated into workplace health examinations, complemented by tailored counseling. This novel check-up package is a feasible and effective approach for improving preconception health and fertility awareness.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine the association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels and ovarian reserve as measured using antimüllerian hormone (AMH) levels. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Detroit, Michigan area. PATIENTS Data were obtained from a prospective cohort of self-identified Black or African American women aged 23-35 years at the time of enrollment (N = 1,593), who had no prior diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome, were not currently pregnant, and were not missing AMH or 25(OH)D level measures. INTERVENTION Serum 25(OH)D. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) The serum AMH level was the main outcome. Linear regression was used to examine the associations between categorical 25(OH)D levels (<12, 12-<20, 20-<30, and ≥30 ng/mL) and continuous natural log-transformed AMH levels. Associations between 25(OH)D and high (upper 10th percentile: >7.8 ng/mL) or low AMH (<0.7 ng/mL) levels were estimated with logistic regression. Models were adjusted for age, age-squared, body mass index (kg/m2), hormonal contraceptive use, smoking, and exercise. RESULTS The 25(OH)D levels were low; 70% of participants were below 20 ng/mL. In fully adjusted models, compared with 25(OH)D levels <12 ng/mL, those with 25(OH)D levels of 12-<20, 20-<30, and ≥30 ng/mL had an AMH level that was 7% (95% confidence interval [CI]: -4, 20), 7% {95% CI: -6, 22}, or 11% {95% CI: -7, 34} higher, respectively. Moreover, these groups had lower odds of having low AMH levels (odds ratio [95% CI]: 0.63 {0.40, 0.99}, 0.60 {0.34, 1.07}, and 0.76 {0.35, 1.65}, respectively), and the highest category of 25(OH)D levels had higher odds of having high AMH levels (odds ratio [95% CI]: 1.42 {0.74, 2.72}). Exclusion of participants with either irregular cycles or very high AMH (>25 ng/mL) levels did not alter the associations. CONCLUSION Taken together, these results indicate that higher levels of 25(OH)D are associated with slightly higher AMH levels, lower odds of low AMH levels, and higher odds of high AMH levels. This evidence is weak, however, because only a small percentage of participants had high 25(OH)D levels. Future studies should examine populations with a wide distribution of 25(OH)D levels (both high and low), with a clinical trial design, or with longitudinal measures of both 25(OH)D and AMH levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25 (OH) D3) is crucial for follicular development. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the level of 25 (OH) D3 in endometriosis patients, pregnancy outcomes of in vitro fertilization (IVF), and the underlying mechanism. METHODS The 25 (OH) D3 levels in serum and follicular Fluid (FF) samples were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Clinical features and pregnancy outcomes of endometriosis patients were also compared between the deficient group (< 20 ug/ml) and the adequate group (≥ 20 ug/ml). The effects of 25 (OH) D3 on the proliferation and cell cycle of human ovarian granulosa cells were respectively detected by CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry (FCM). The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in granulosa cells of endometriosis and tubal infertility patients were screened from GEO database. The effects of 25 (OH) D3 on the expressions of CDKN2D, PPARA, TGFB2 and THBD were determined using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot. RESULTS The levels of 25 (OH) D3 in serum and FF samples were decreased in endometriosis patients. The deficient group had fewer embryos that can be transferred, lower quality embryos and lower clinical pregnancy rates. Adequate 25 (OH) D3 levels in FF samples was a protective factor for live birth outcome in endometriosis patients. 25 (OH) D3 enhanced the proliferation capacity of granulosa cells (the concentration of 10 nM was the most significant) and increased the proportion of G2M + S phase cells. The expression of CDKN2D was decreased and TGFB2 and THBD were significantly upregulated. CONCLUSIONS 25 (OH) D3 deficiency may be associated with poor IVF pregnancy outcomes in endometriosis patients. 25 (OH) D3 promotes ovarian granulosa cell proliferation by promoting the ability of cells to divide, and may accelerate cell cycle progression by up-regulating THBD and down-regulating CDKN2D expression.

Abstract
Vitamin D deficiency is a global health problem and has been linked to defective spermatogenesis and male infertility. In this study, we aimed to investigate the main enzymes involved in the transsulfuration pathway of 1-carbon metabolism, and spermatogenesis function. Therefore, sixteen male C57 mice were addressed to a control (standard diet) or vitamin D deficient (VDD) diet for 14 weeks. The results show that compared to the standard diet, VDD increased final body weight and reduced sperm quality, caused damage to the testicular structure, and decreased the serum levels of testosterone. In addition, serum concentrations of homocysteine, vitamin B12, and sperm oxidative stress markers increased. In testicular tissues, the CBS and CSE protein levels were down-regulated whereas HO-1 was up-regulated at both mRNA and protein expression levels. Within a mice deprivation model, VDD deeply suppressed testosterone and impaired spermatogenesis with oxidative stress-mediated mechanisms. The effects of the deprivation appeared to be at least in part independent of genomic and receptor-mediated vitamin D actions and suggest a specific impairment of the alternative transsulfuration pathway.

Abstract
STUDY QUESTION What metabolic pathways and metabolites in the serum and follicular fluid are associated with peak estradiol levels and the number of mature oocytes? SUMMARY ANSWER In the serum metabolome, mostly fatty acid and amino acid pathways were associated with estradiol levels and mature oocytes while in the follicular fluid metabolome, mostly lipid, vitamin, and hormone pathways were associated with peak estradiol levels and mature oocytes. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Metabolomics has identified several metabolic pathways and metabolites associated with infertility but limited data are available for ovarian stimulation outcomes. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION A prospective cohort study of women undergoing IVF from 2009 to 2015. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS A total of 125 women undergoing a fresh IVF cycle at a fertility clinic in the Northeast United States who provided a serum and follicular fluid sample. Untargeted metabolomics profiling was conducted using liquid chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry in two chromatography columns (C18 and hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC)). The main ovarian stimulation outcomes were peak serum estradiol levels and number of mature oocytes. We utilized adjusted generalized linear regression models to identify significant metabolic features. Models were adjusted for age,BMI, initial infertility diagnosis, and ovarian stimulation protocol. We then conducted pathway analysis using mummichog and metabolite annotation using level-1 evidence. MAIN RESULTS AND ROLE OF CHANCE In the serum metabolome, 480 and 850 features were associated with peak estradiol levels in the C18 and HILIC columns, respectively. Additionally, 437 and 538 features were associated with mature oocytes in the C18 and HILIC columns, respectively. In the follicular fluid metabolome, 752 and 929 features were associated with peak estradiol levels in the C18 and HILIC columns, respectively, Additionally, 993 and 986 features were associated with mature oocytes in the C18 and HILIC columns, respectively. The most common pathways associated with peak estradiol included fatty acids (serum and follicular fluid), hormone (follicular fluid), and lipid pathways (follicular fluid). The most common pathways associated with the number of mature oocytes retrieved included amino acids (serum), fatty acids (serum and follicular fluid), hormone (follicular fluid), and vitamin pathways(follicular fluid). The vitamin D3 pathway had the strongest association with both ovarian stimulation outcomes in the follicularfluid. Four and nine metabolites were identified using level-1 evidence (validated identification) in the serum and follicular fluid metabolomes, respectively. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Our sample was majority White and highly educated and may not be generalizable to thewider population. Additionally, residual confounding is possible and the flushing medium used in the follicular fluid could have diluted our results. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS The pathways and metabolites identified by our study provide novel insights into the biologicalmechanisms in the serum and follicular fluid that may underlie follicular and oocyte development, which could potentially be used to improve ovarian stimulation outcomes. Abstract
Maternal vitamin D may be important for several organ systems in the offspring, including the reproductive system. In this population-based follow-up study of 12,991 Danish boys and girls born 2000-2003, we investigated if maternal intake of vitamin D supplements during pregnancy was associated with pubertal timing in boys and girls. Information on maternal intake of vitamin D supplements was obtained by self-report in mid-pregnancy. Self-reported information on the current status of various pubertal milestones was obtained every six months throughout puberty. Mean differences in months at attaining each pubertal milestone and an average estimate for the mean difference in attaining all pubertal milestones were estimated according to maternal intake of vitamin D supplements using multivariable interval-censored regression models. Lower maternal intake of vitamin D supplements was associated with later pubertal timing in boys. For the average estimate, boys had 0.5 months (95% CI 0.1; 0.9) later pubertal timing per 5 µg/day lower maternal vitamin D supplement intake. Maternal intake of vitamin D supplements was not associated with pubertal timing in girls. Spline plots and sensitivity analyses supported the findings. Whether the observed association with boys' pubertal timing translates into an increased risk of disease in adulthood is unknown.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Since the connection between muscle atrophy and vitamin D and estradiol status ambiguous, this study was thus conducted to determine whether low skeletal muscle mass (SMM) in middle-aged and elderly women was affected by estradiol and vitamin D levels together. METHODS Baseline data from a sub-cohort of the China Northwest Natural Population Cohort: Ningxia Project (CNC-NX) were analyzed. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH) D) and estradiol were measured by chemiluminescence immunoassay analyzer. Bivariate logistic regression and multiplicative interaction analyses were used to assess the impact of estradiol level and vitamin D status on low SMM, as well as the combined impact of estradiol and low vitamin D status on low SMM. RESULTS A total of 287 (9.49%) participants had low SMM, which had lower levels of estradiol and vitamin D concentration than normal SMM group. While, after adjusting the confounding variables, these correlations were maintained in estradiol Q1, Q2, Q3 and vitamin D Q1. Furthermore, the significant combined effect of the highest quartile of estradiol concentrations and non-vitamin D deficiency, and interactions between vitamin D Q1 and estradiol Q2, vitamin D Q1 and estradiol Q3, vitamin D Q2 and estradiol Q1, vitamin D Q3 and estradiol Q3 on low SMM were stably reflected (P for interaction < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Estradiol and vitamin D were interrelated with low SMM in middle-aged and elderly women. Combination of estradiol and vitamin D supplements should be encouraged for middle-aged and elderly women who are at risk of muscle atrophy or experiencing muscle atrophy.

Abstract
As well as being essential for musculoskeletal health, vitamin D is involved in numerous other physiological processes. Poor vitamin D status is linked to a wide range of diseases, including cardiovascular disease, autoimmune conditions, pulmonary disorders and upper respiratory tract infections. While optimal target concentrations of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) for health maintenance or therapeutic purposes are still the subject of debate, there is reasonable agreement that serum 25(OH)D levels <50 nmol/L (20 ng/mL) constitute vitamin D deficiency and that severe deficiency states (serum 25(OH)D levels <25-30 nmol/L ≈ 10-12 ng/mL) should be avoided. Main strategies to maintain or improve vitamin D status are food supplementation and therapeutic use of medicinal forms of vitamin D. In this review, we examine evidence that implicates vitamin D deficiency in diverse conditions in the clinical settings of endocrinology, rheumatology, pneumology and reproductive health. Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) is the most frequently used vitamin D supplement worldwide, though calcifediol (25-hydroxyvitamin D3) has recently become more widely available. Calcifediol is one step closer than cholecalciferol in the metabolic pathway to biologically active vitamin D. Pharmacokinetic differences between these vitamin D metabolites confer putative advantages for calcifediol in certain clinical situations. The clinical use of calcifediol is explored more closely through case studies, which illustrate its adjunctive role in the treatment of several vitamin D deficiency-related skeletal and extraskeletal diseases.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effect of vitamin D supplementation on pregnancy and ovulation in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. Method We searched Pubmed, Medline (via Ovid, 1974 to 2020), EMBASE (via Ovid, 1974 to 2020), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (via Ovid), Web of Science, CNKI, WangFang and the Vip database from inception until April 2021. Two researchers independently screened articles, collected data and evaluated the quality, with Review manager 5.3 for meta-analysis. Results Totally 20 randomized controlled studies with 1961 subjects were included. Meta analysis showed that pregnancy rate [RR=1.44 (1.28, 1.62), p<0.00,001], ovulation rate [RR=1.42 (1.14, 1.78), p=0.002] and matured oocytes rate [RR=1.08 (1.03, 1.13), p=0.002] of vitamin D supplementation group were significantly higher than those of control group. Meanwhile, early miscarriage rate [RR=0.44 (0.30, 0.66), p<0.00,001], androgen level [MD=-2.31 (-3.51, -1.11), p=0.0002], luteinizing hormone [MD=-1.47 (-2.57, -0.36), p=0.009], follicle stimulating hormone [MD=-0.15 (-0.24, -0.05), p=0.002], and premature delivery rate [RR=0.38, 95% CI (0.21, 0.70), p=0.002] were declined significantly than the controls. However, only one article suggested that the progesterone [MD=6.52 (4.52, 8.52), p<0.05] in the vitamin D intervention group was increased. There was no notable difference in the biochemical pregnancy rate [RR=0.95 (0.55, 1.63), p=0.84], gestational hypertension rate [RR=0.40, 95% CI (0.15, 1.11), p=0.08], gestational diabetes mellitus rate [RR=0.27, 95% CI (0.05, 1.39), p=0.11], fertilization rate [RR=1.05 (1.00, 1.10), p=0.04], cleavage rate [RR=1.03 (0.99, 1.06), p=0.17], high-quality embryo rate [RR=1.08 (0.98, 1.20), p=0.10], endometrial thickness [MD=0.10], 77 (-0.23, 1.77), p=0.13], estrogen level [MD=-0.34 (-1.55, 0.87), p=0.59], LH/FSH [MD=-0.14, 95% CI (-0.48, 0.20), p=1.00] and anti-Mullerian hormone [MD=-0.22 (-0.65, 0.21), p=0.32]. Conclusion Vitamin D supplementation contribute to the higher pregnancy and ovulation rates, and lower androgen, LH, FSH and early miscarriage rates in women with PCOS, regardless of the use of ovulation induction drugs or assisted reproductive technologies. However, no significant improvement was observed in fertilization rate or cleavage rate. Due to the limitation in quality of involved studies, more high-quality RCTs are needed for further validation. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Oxidative stress (OS) is recognized in the pathophysiology of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). OS results in intracellular reactive oxygen species generation, causing oxidative protein damage that is protected by heat shock proteins (HSPs). Vitamin D is thought to reduce and protect against OS; therefore, OS, HSP, and vitamin D levels may be associated with PCOS. However, their expression in PCOS without underlying inflammation is unknown. METHODS In this exploratory study, the plasma levels of 7 OS proteins and 10 HSPs that are affected by the OS process were measured using Slow Off-rate Modified Aptamer (SOMA)-scan plasma protein measurements in non-obese, non-insulin resistant women with PCOS (n = 24) without systemic inflammation and control (n = 24) women; the cohorts were matched for weight and age. The OS proteins and HSPs were correlated with 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 (25(OH)D3) and the active form, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3), as measured by isotope-dilution liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. RESULTS The PCOS women versus the controls had comparable insulin resistance and systemic inflammation (C-reactive protein 2.0 mg/L vs. 2.3 mg/L, p > 0.05), but higher free androgen index and anti-mullerian hormone levels. Among the OS proteins, only esterase D (ESD; p < 0.01) was elevated in PCOS and the HSPs did not differ between the PCOS and control women. There was no correlation of 25(OH)D3 or 1,25(OH)2D3 with any of the proteins. CONCLUSIONS In a PCOS population that was non-obese and without insulin resistance and systemic inflammation, only ESD was elevated in PCOS, whilst the other OS proteins and HSPs were not elevated. Further, none of the OS proteins or HSPs were correlated with either 25(OH)D3 or 1,25(OH)2D3 in either cohort of women or when both cohorts were combined, indicating that the OS and HSP responses were largely absent and not affected by vitamin D in a non-obese PCOS population.

Abstract
Background Infertility is a common issue affecting a large number of Iraqi women of reproductive age. The relationship between vitamin D deficiency and infertility has previously drawn the attention of gynecologists, and an increasing number of vitamin D testing has been requested. Methods 120 women were enrolled in this study between April 2019 and April 2020. Patients were divided into two groups comprising sixty women complaining of infertility, with the other 60 women being fertile and enrolled as controls. All patients were assessed for vitamin D level. Results In the fertile study group, patients with deficient, insufficient, and sufficient level of vitamin were 28%, 23%, and 48%, respectively (these numbers were rounded to the nearest whole digit, as the numbers for the infertile group were given with that level of precision), whereas the infertile study group showed a statistically significant (p value = 0.002) distribution of vitamin levels with 50%, 35%, and 15% of women being deficient, insufficient, and sufficient, respectively. Conclusions Vitamin D is significantly deficient in infertile patients which suggests a possible, positive impact if vitamin D is considered in the management of female infertility. Further study with more participants is highly recommended.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infertility and fecundability problems have been linked with lower 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentrations, but studies conducted with small, heterogenous or selected populations have shown inconsistent results. METHODS This study included women at age 31 from prospective population-based Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966. Serum 25(OH)D concentrations were evaluated between women with or without previous infertility examinations or treatments (infertility group, n = 375, reference group, n = 2051) and time to pregnancy (TTP) of over 12 months (decreased fecundability group, n = 338) with a wide range of confounders. Furthermore, 25(OH)D concentrations were also compared among reproductive outcomes. RESULTS The mean 25(OH)D concentration was lower and 25(OH)D < 30 nmol/L was more frequent in women with a history of infertility compared to reference group. Moreover, 25(OH)D > 75 nmol/L was more frequent in the reference group. The mean 25(OH)D concentration was lower in women who had had multiple miscarriages. Both history of infertility (β = -2.7, 95% confidence interval (CI) -4.6, -0.7) and decreased fecundability associated with lower 25(OH)D concentration (β = -4.1, 95% CI -7.4, -0.8) after adjustments. In conclusion, this population-based study demonstrated that previous infertility and decreased fecundability were associated with lower 25(OH)D.

Abstract
Background: In vitro research suggests that vitamin D may protect against the risk of ovarian cancer. However, ecological and epidemiologic evidence is still debatable. Materials and Methods: We searched eligible studies via MEDLINE and Web of Science databases, as well as a hand search to examine the association between vitamin D intake or blood 25(OH)D (25-hydroxyvitamin D) and ovarian cancer risk in a meta-analysis. The overall relative risk (RR) was determined using a random-effect model. Results: For ovarian cancer incidence, 15 observational studies were included [5,634 cases for vitamin D intake and 975 cases for blood 25(OH)D]. For overall vitamin D intake (from food and supplements), the pooled RR of ovarian cancer risk for the highest versus lowest groups was 0.92 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.74-1.14). For blood 25(OH)D levels, however, people with high blood 25(OH)D levels had 37% lower risk of ovarian cancer than those with low levels (pooled RR = 0.63; 95% CI: 0.42-0.93). By study design, the inverse association was stronger in case-control studies than in prospective studies. The dose-response meta-analysis also supports the inverse association between blood 25(OH)D levels and ovarian cancer risk. When the pooled RRs were restricted to studies that adjusted for body mass index (BMI), they tended to be stronger, but the difference by adjustment for BMI was not significant. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that having a high blood 25(OH)D level is associated with a lower risk of ovarian cancer. More well-designed prospective studies are needed to confirm the link between vitamin D status and ovarian cancer risk.

Abstract
RESEARCH QUESTION What is the effect of vitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3) on proliferation, cell cycle and apoptosis of endometrial stromal cells (ESC) in endometriotic patients? DESIGN ESC isolated from 10 women with endometriosis and 10 healthy controls were treated with 1,25(OH)2D3. The proliferation of control endometrial stromal cells (CESC), eutopic endometrial stromal cells (EuESC) and ectopic endometrial stromal cells (EESC) was analysed 72 h after the treatment using methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay. Propidium iodide staining and flow cytometry were used to determine the cell cycle distribution in ESC. Annexin V/propidium iodide double staining was used to evaluate apoptosis in ESC. RESULTS In the presence of oestrogen, 1,25(OH)2D3 treatment inhibited the proliferation of ESC from all three origins (P = 0.009 for CESC, P = 0.005 for EuESC and P < 0.001 for EESC). The percentage of S phase cells in EESC was higher than in EuESC and CESC (P = 0.002 and P = 0.001, respectively). The percentage of S phase cells in EuESC was higher than in CESC (P = 0.005). The percentage of G1 phase cells in EESC was lower than that of EuESC and CESC (P = 0.003 and P = 0.002, respectively) and the percentage of G1 phase cells in EuESC was lower than that of CESC (P = 0.007). Moreover, 1,25(OH)2D3 inhibited cell cycle regardless of cell type (P = 0.002 in EESC, P = 0.001 in EuESC and P = 0.014 in CESC), but in the absence of oestrogen, inhibited cell cycle only in EuESC (P = 0.012). CONCLUSIONS Although 1,25(OH)2D3 increased apoptotic and necrotic cells and decreased live cells in the EuESC and EESC, it did not affect apoptosis in CESC and only increased necrotic cells. These findings indicate that 1,25(OH)2D3 potentially has a growth-inhibiting and pro-apoptotic effect on ESC from endometriotic patients.

Abstract
In recent years, we have faced an increasing incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), especially among young people, affecting them during their reproductive years. The paucity of data and reduced knowledge regarding the evolution of the disease during pregnancy and the adverse effects of the therapy on the mother and infant increase voluntary childlessness in this group of patients. Depending on the type of IBD, severity and surgical or medical management, this can negatively affect the pregnancy. C-sections and the risk of low-birth-weight babies are higher in women with IBD, independent of active/inactive disease, while preterm birth, stillbirth and miscarriage are associated with disease activity. In the last period, medicinal therapy has evolved, and new molecules have been developed for better control of the lesions, but the effect on pregnancy and breastfeeding is still controversial. We conducted this review by studying the literature and recent research in order to have a better image of the practical management of IBD during pregnancy.

Abstract
Perfluorooctanesulfonate acid (PFOS) is a typical persistent organic pollutant that widely exists in the environment. To clarify the toxic effects and mechanisms of PFOS and to find effective intervention strategies have been attracted global attention. Here, we investigated the effects of PFOS on the male reproductive system and explored the potential protective role of 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1α,25(OH)2 D3 ). Our results showed that 1α,25(OH)2 D3 intervention significantly improved PFOS-induced sperm quality decline and testicular damage. Moreover, 1α,25(OH)2 D3 aggrandized the total antioxidant capacity. Furthermore, after PFOS exposure, the transcription factor nuclear factor erythroid-related factor 2 (Nrf2) was adaptively increased together with its target genes, such as HO-1, NQO1, and SOD2. Meanwhile, 1α,25(OH)2 D3 ameliorated PFOS-induced augment of Nrf2 and target genes. These findings indicated that 1α,25(OH)2 D3 might attenuate PFOS-induced reproductive injury in male mice via Nrf2-mediated oxidative stress.

Abstract
The human circadian system responds to light as low as 30 photopic lux. Furthermore, recent evidence shows that there are huge individual differences in light sensitivity, which may help to explain why some people are more susceptible to sleep and circadian disruption than others. The biological mechanisms underlying the differences in light sensitivity remain largely unknown. A key variable of interest in understanding these individual differences in light sensitivity is biological sex. It is possible that in humans, males and females differ in their sensitivity to light, but the evidence is inconclusive. This is in part due to the historic exclusion of women in biomedical research. Hormonal fluctuations across the menstrual cycle in women has often been cited as a confound by researchers. Attitudes, however, are changing with funding and publication agencies advocating for more inclusive research frameworks and mandating that women and minorities participate in scientific research studies. In this article, we distill the existing knowledge regarding the relationship between light and the menstrual cycle. There is some evidence of a relationship between light and the menstrual cycle, but the nature of this relationship seems dependent on the timing of the light source (sunlight, moonlight, and electric light at night). Light sensitivity may be influenced by biological sex and menstrual phase but there might not be any effect at all. To better understand the relationship between light, the circadian system, and the menstrual cycle, future research needs to be designed thoughtfully, conducted rigorously, and reported transparently.

Abstract
Evidence suggests that fat-soluble vitamins are involved in reproduction, but their association with the menstrual cycle, the proxy of female fecundity, remains largely unexplored in women of childbearing age. Serum fat-soluble vitamin levels were measured by HPLC-MS/MS and menstrual cycle data were acquired from 3123 women of reproductive age in Nanjing, China, using standard questionnaires. Irregular and long menstrual cycles occurred in 725 (23.2%) and 604 (19.3%) participants, respectively. Participants with higher levels of vitamins A and K had increased odds of irregular menstrual cycles (vitamin A: OR = 1.39 (95% CI: 1.12, 1.74); vitamin K: OR = 1.41 (95% CI: 1.13, 1.76)) and long menstrual cycles (vitamin A: OR = 1.34 (95% CI: 1.06, 1.69); vitamin K: OR = 1.27 (95% CI: 1.00, 1.61)), and the relationship showed a linear dose-response pattern (P-overall < 0.05, P-nonlinearity > 0.05). Vitamin A was positively associated with the average menstrual cycle length (β: 1.83, 95% CI: 0.28, 3.39). Vitamins A and K were interacted in their associations with irregular menstrual cycles and long cycles. In sensitivity analysis with further exclusion of participants with abnormal thyroid function or a history of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the association of vitamins A and K with the menstrual cycle remained robust. This study indicates that higher serum vitamin A and K levels in women of childbearing age are significantly associated with higher odds of irregular and long menstrual cycles with a linear dose-response curve. Further investigations are warranted to determine the appropriate fat-soluble vitamin levels for women of childbearing age.

Abstract
Both vitamin A and E support female reproduction and embryonic development. These vitamins have been associated with decreased fertility or failure to end the pregnancy in animals. An observational study was conducted on follicular fluid (FF) samples to determine the concentrations of fat-soluble vitamins of women undergoing in vitro fertilization and its correlation with assisted reproductive technology characteristics and pregnancy outcomes. Moreover, the effects of all-trans-retinoic acid (atRA) and alpha-tocopherol on granulosa cell viability, apoptosis, autophagy and hormonal production were evaluated. No association was identified between fat-soluble vitamin concentrations in FF and infertility aetiology, body mass index or woman's age. There were differences in follicular antioxidant profiles and ovarian response stimulation. In vitro evaluation of atRA and alpha-tocopherol reveals that, at physiological concentrations, both compounds may affect the viability of granulosa cells. In addition, these compounds are able to protect granulosa cells from oxidative stress, as well as to affect estradiol and progesterone production. Our data suggest that atRA and alpha-tocopherol levels should be well controlled as they may have implications in the function and viability of granulosa cells and highlights retinol as a marker of the oxidative defenses within ovary environment.

Abstract
Abstract
Context
The Mediterranean diet (MD) is a dietary pattern with evidence of positive health impact, and some nutrients in this diet have already been researched for their effectiveness in fertility. However, there are still questions about whether high adherence to the MD could be a factor that contributes to positive fertility outcomes in infertile men and women.
Objective
A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to determine whether a greater adherence to the MD can improve fertility markers and outcomes in infertile men and women.
Data sources
The MEDLINE, BVS, SciELO, CENTRAL, and Embase databases and gray literature were searched from their inception to May 2022.
Study selection
Data were included from cohort studies that addressed MD and outcomes.
Data extraction
Data searches, article selection, data extraction, and risk-of-bias assessments were performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines.
Results
A total of 11 studies met the inclusion criteria (n = 13 157 women and 1338 men). Greater adherence to the MD was associated with live births (I2 = 83.16%; odds ratio [OR], 0.652; 95%CI, 0.408–3.194), pregnancy rate (I2 = 93.83%; OR, 1.192; 95%CI, 0.349–4.325), sperm concentration >15 × 106/mL (I2 = 32.97%; OR 2.862; 95%CI, 1.583–5.174), and sperm count > 39 × 106/mL (I2 = 48.1%; OR, 2.543; 95%CI, 1.319–4.904); however, in an inconsistent scenario regarding the meta-analysis.
Conclusion
Current evidence of high adherence to MD and fertility markers is insufficient to support their clinical application, even though it indicates sperm improvement and a possibility of better pregnancy outcomes.

Abstract
PURPOSE The objective of this study was to analyze vitamin D status and PTH concentrations in 6- to 8-year-old girls with central precocious puberty. METHODS A cross-sectional clinical and blood testing study (calcium, phosphorus, 25(OH)D and PTH) was carried out in 78 girls with central precocious puberty (CPP group), aged 6.1-7.9 years. A control group was recruited (137 prepubertal girls, aged 6.1-8.2 years). The criteria of the US Endocrine Society were used for the definition of hypovitaminosis D. RESULTS There were no significant differences in vitamin D status between both groups. There were no significant differences in 25(OH)D concentrations between CPP (25.4 ± 8.6 ng/mL) and control groups (28.2 ± 7.4 ng/mL). In contrast, PHT concentrations in CPP group (44.8 ± 16.3 pg/mL) were higher (p < 0.05) with respect to control group (31.0 ± 11.9 ng/mL). In CPP group, there was a positive correlation (p < 0.05) between PTH concentrations and growth rate, bone age, and basal estradiol, basal FSH, basal LH and LH peak concentrations. CONCLUSION Vitamin D status in 6- to 8-year-old girls with CPP is similar to that in prepubertal girls. PTH concentrations were significantly higher in girls with CPP, and this could be considered as a physiological characteristic of puberty and, in this case, of pubertal precocity.

Abstract
1α,25(OH)2VD3 is the most active form of vitamin D3 in animals, and it plays an important role in regulating mineral metabolism and reproduction. In this study, 140 crossbred gilts (Landrace × Yorkshire) were selected, randomly divided into four groups, and fed with a commercial diet supplemented with 0, 1, 2, and 4 μg/kg of 1α,25(OH)2VD3 in the form of 1α,25(OH)2VD3-glycosides. The mammary gland tissues were sampled from sows on day 114 of gestation. The production data of sows in each group were analyzed, and the colostrum quality was evaluated. Differentially abundant proteins (DAPs) in the mammary tissues were identified by tandem mass tag (TMT) technique and were verified by Western blot and parallel reaction monitoring (PRM). The results showed that 4 μg/kg 1α,25(OH)2VD3-glycosides significantly promoted the piglet birth weight, weaning weight, colostrum quality, and lactation ability of primiparous sows. The proteomics analysis showed that of the identified 53,118 peptides, 48,868 were unique peptides. A total of 5029 DAPs were identified, of which 4292 DAPs contained quantitative information. Our data indicated that 1α,25(OH)2VD3 was involved in the regulation of the mammary gland development and lactation in a dose-dependent manner through multiple pathways during gestation of primiparous sows. SIGNIFICANCE: The mammary gland is an important lactation organ of female mammals. Our research aims to reveal the effect of dietary supplementation with 1α,25(OH)2VD3 on mammary gland development and lactation of primiparous sow. This study identified potential signaling pathways and DAPs involved in regulating the mammary gland development and lactation in sows. Our findings provides theoretical basis for improving the fecundity of sows.

Background Vitamin D plays an invaluable role in reproductive health, but vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency are generally common among couples of childbearing age and pregnant women. This study aimed to evaluate the evolution, development trend, and research hotspot of publications on vitamin D and reproductive health. Methods The literature on vitamin D and reproductive health between 2012 and 2021 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). We used VOSviewer and CiteSpace to analyze publication years, countries, institutions, journals, highly cited authors and publications, and co-occurrence and citation bursts of keywords. Results A total of 1,828 articles and reviews on vitamin D and reproductive health published between 2012 and 2021 were identified. The annual publication outputs showed steady growth, with the most publications (272) and citations (7,097) in 2021. The United States contributed the most publications (458) and had the highest h-index (58). In terms of the number of publications and h-index, the journal named Nutrients ranked first. Nutrition dietetics, obstetrics gynecology, and endocrinology metabolism were three well-represented disciplines in research on vitamin D and reproductive health. Hollis BW, Wagner CL, and Litonjua AA were the top three most productive authors in this field during the last decade. Apart from vitamin D, the five keywords with the most frequent occurrence were vitamin D deficiency, pregnancy, risk, vitamin D supplementation, and 25-hydroxyvitamin D. Keyword citation burst analysis revealed that low birth weight, adipose tissue, marker, and embryo had a citation burst lasting until 2021. Conclusion In conclusion, vitamin D has received continuous attention in the field of reproductive health, and there appears to have a higher level of research in North America. Multidisciplinary intersection contributed to the in-depth exploration in this field. And the effect of maternal vitamin D levels on fetal lipid metabolism and the prediction of fertility by vitamin D-related markers might be hotspots for the research.

Abstract
Introduction. Chronic low-grade inflammation is a characteristic of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), although this may be obesity-driven rather than an intrinsic facet of PCOS; furthermore, vitamin D deficiency, another common feature of PCOS, is reported to have an association with increased inflammation. Therefore, circulating inflammatory protein levels and circulating levels of vitamin D may be linked in PCOS, though it is unclear which vitamin D metabolites may be important. Methods. We measured plasma levels of 24 inflammatory proteins and 12 matrix metalloproteinases (proteins modulated by the inflammatory process) by slow off-rate modified aptamer (SOMA)-scan plasma protein measurement in weight and aged-matched non-obese non-insulin resistant PCOS (n = 24) and control (n = 24) women. Inflammatory proteins and matrix metalloproteinases were correlated to 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 (25(OH)D3), its epimer 25-hydroxy-3epi-vitamin D (3epi25(OH)D) and the active 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3) as measured by gold standard isotope-dilution liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Results. PCOS women had both an elevated free androgen index and circulating anti-mullerian hormone, though insulin resistance was comparable to controls. C-reactive protein, as a standard circulatory marker of inflammation, was comparable between cohorts. Levels of circulating inflammatory proteins and matrix metalloproteinases were not different between the PCOS and control women, with no correlation of 25(OH)D3, 1,25(OH)2D3 or 3epi25(OH)D with any of the inflammatory proteins. Conclusion. In a non-obese PCOS population matched for age and insulin resistance, circulating inflammatory proteins and matrix metalloproteinases were not elevated and did not correlate with 25(OH)D3, its epimer 3epi25(OH)D or 1,25(OH)2D3 in either control or PCOS women, indicating that the inflammatory response is absent and the vitamin D-metabolite independent in non-obese women with PCOS.

Abstract
Recent literature has stressed the importance of vitamin D (VD) in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Women with PCOS are deficient in VD, particularly those with a higher weight. Hypovitaminosis is a risk factor for glucose intolerance, and reduced levels of VD is associated with insulin resistance and increased diabetes risk. Since women with PCOS and hirsutism seem to have lower levels of VD than women with PCOS without hirsutism, a correlation between VD deficiency and hyperandrogenism may be suggested. Interestingly, VD is crucial for many human physiological functions, including to counteract inflammation and oxidative stress. Some studies evaluated effects of VD supplementation on glucose homeostasis variables, hormonal status, lipid concentrations, and biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress among VD-deficient women. Moreover, VD has been shown to play a role in egg quality and fertility. This review aims to show the relationship between VD and the endocrine and metabolic profile of PCOS patients, as well as its implications for their fertility. The supplement of VD to the common therapy can lead to an improvement of the insulin resistance and lipid metabolism, a reduction of circulating androgens, as well as a better response to the induction of ovulation in PCOS women.

Abstract
The relationship between fish eating habits and menstrual pain is unknown. Elucidating this relationship can inform dietary guidance for reproductive age women with menstrual pain. The aim of this study was to clarify the relationship between fish intake frequency/preference and menstrual pain. This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Miyagi Regional Center as an adjunct study of the Japan Environment and Children’s Study, and 2060 eligible women (mean age, 31.9 years) participated. Fish intake frequency (“< 1 time/week,” “1 time/week,” “2–3 times/week,” or “≥ 4 times/week”), preference (“like,” “neutral,” or “dislike”), and menstrual pain (no/mild or moderate-to-severe) were assessed at 1.5 years after the last delivery through self-administered questionnaires. The association between fish intake frequency/preference and prevalence of moderate-to-severe menstrual pain was evaluated through logistic regression analyses. Our results show that, compared with the “< 1 time/week” (38.0%) group, the “1 time/week” (26.9%), “2–3 times/week” (27.8%), and “≥ 4 times/week” (23.9%) groups showed a lower prevalence of moderate-to-severe menstrual pain (p < 0.01). The prevalence of moderate-to-severe menstrual pain was 27.7%, 27.6%, and 34.4% in the “like,” “neutral,” and “dislike” groups, respectively. Multivariate logistic regression showed that frequent fish intake was associated with a lower prevalence of moderate-to-severe menstrual pain (“1 time/week”: odds ratio [OR] = 0.59; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.41–0.86, “2–3 times/week”: OR = 0.64; 95% CI, 0.45–0.90 and “≥ 4 times/week”: OR = 0.52; 95% CI, 0.34–0.80; trend p = 0.004). Multivariate logistic regression showed no association between fish preference and moderate-to-severe menstrual pain (“dislike” vs “like”: OR = 1.16; 95% CI, 0.78–1.73). There was a significant negative association between fish intake frequency and menstrual pain. It is suggested that fish intake can reduce or prevent menstrual pain.

Abstract
The aim of the study was to evaluate adrenal axis hyperactivation measuring hair cortisol levels, and its influence on the relationship among metabolic parameters, inflammation markers and androgens in adult women with PCOS. 44 women (18–34 years) with PCOS diagnosis and a control group of 49 healthy women (19–35 years) were included. In both gropus body mass index (BMI) was calculated and waist circumference (WC) was measured. Hair cortisol, total serum testosterone (TT), serum cortisol, 25 OH vitamin D (25OHD), insulin, high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), triglycerides (TG), HDL cholesterol (HDL), glucose and leptin were measured. Bioavailable testosterone (bioT) was calculated. Hair cortisol concentration was higher and significantly different in PCOS patients compared to the control group (130 vs 63 pg/mg of hair, p < 0.001). Subsequently, patients with PCOS were divided into two groups according to hair cortisol levels: group 1 with normal hair cortisol concentration and group 2 with levels above the upper limit of the reference values (128 pg/mg of hair). In group 2, TT significantly correlated with 25OHD, hsCRP, TG/HDL index, BMI, WC, insulin and HOMA (p < 0.05); bioT correlated with hsCRP and leptin (p < 0.05). Finally, 25OHD was inversely correlated with leptin and with TG/HDL index (p < 0.05). High hair cortisol concentration in patients with PCOS confirmed hyperactivation of the HPA axis. The associations observed were only found in patients with PCOS with high hair cortisol levels (> 128 pg/mg of hair), showing a possible effect of HPA axis in these associations.

Abstract
Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory disease (IBD) that can affect the entire gastrointestinal tract in a non-continuous mode. CD is generally diagnosed most commonly between 15 and 35 years of age and may affect female fertility. The role of diet in supporting wellbeing outcome and reproductive potential in women is well-known; however, no effective efforts have been made to improve women's awareness in CD. Our review aims to describe the burden of CD on women's fertility, reporting the most relevant nutrients that support reproductive function to ensure women diagnosed with IBD an adequate health-related quality of life.

Abstract
A worldwide high prevalence of vitamin D (VD) deficiency has become of growing concern because of potential adverse effects on human health, including pregnant women and their offsprings. Beyond its classical function as a regulator of calcium and phosphate metabolism, together with its fundamental role in bone health in every stage of life, its deficiency has been associated to multiple adverse health effects. The classic effects of VD deficiency in pregnancy and neonates have been late hypocalcemia and nutritional rickets. Nevertheless, recent studies have linked VD to fertility and 25(OH)D with several clinical conditions in pregnancy: preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, higher incidence of cesarean section and preterm birth, while in infants, the clinical conditions are low birth weight, lower bone mass and possible relationship with the development of such diseases as bronchiolitis, asthma, type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis and autism included as VD non-classical actions. The supplementation with Vitamin D and achievement of optimal levels reduce maternal-fetal and newborn complications. Supplementation in children with VD deficiency reduces the risk of respiratory infections and possibly autoimmune diseases and autism. This review emphasizes the roles of Vitamin D deficiency and the consequences of intervention from preconception to infancy.

Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine reproductive disorders in women. Vitamin D deficiency is also quite common in this condition. The degree of vitamin D deficiency correlates with the severity of PCOS. Both male and female vitamin D levels play a role in fertility and affect the outcomes of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Moreover, fertility and IVF indicators are improved by vitamin D not only in healthy women but in those diagnosed with PCOS. Both vitamin D deficiency and PCOS increase pregnancy-related complications. Vitamin D supplementation and optimal vitamin D levels decrease both maternal and fetal risk for complications and adverse events. Furthermore, vitamin D supplementation may ameliorate or even prevent pregnancy-related reversible bone loss in mothers. This review emphasizes the roles of vitamin D deficiency and vitamin D supplementation and their correlation with PCOS regarding reproductive health.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the association between FF vitamin D levels and baseline anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) / ART outcomes. METHODS Forty-seven patients who underwent controlled ovarian stimulation at the fertility clinic of an academic tertiary care center were enrolled for a prospective observational study. FF was collected from the first aspirated leading follicle of each ovary and assayed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Multivariable linear regression analysis was used to assess the association between baseline AMH and FF vitamin D levels with adjustment for basal FSH and serum vitamin D levels. RESULTS Both the AMH and serum vitamin D were significant predictors for FF vitamin D. The estimated marginal mean of FF vitamin D level was higher in women with decreased ovarian reserve (DOR) than those with normal ovarian reserve (24.1 ± 2.1 vs. 18.8 ± 1.4 ng/ml, p = 0.048). However, FF vitamin D did not demonstrate any significant associations with cycle outcomes, including fertilization rate and the number and proportion of good embryos at day three. CONCLUSION We observed significantly higher FF vitamin D levels in women with DOR. However, FF vitamin D did not demonstrate any significant associations with the outcome of ART. A larger prospective study is needed to investigate the effect of FF vitamin D on the clinical pregnancy rate and live birth rate.

Abstract
Background Today, vitamin D deficiency (VDD) is one of the major health issues around the world and VDD is associated with several diseases. This study was conducted to find the relationship between vitamin D status in male's serum with sperm function and clinical outcomes in infertile men candidate for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Materials and Methods In this cohort study, different parameters of male fertility such as sperm parameters, oxidative stress, and sperm chromatin status were evaluated in sperm samples of 30 infertile couples candidate for ICSI. Clinical outcomes like fertilization, embryo quality, and implantation were also assessed. Data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics 25.0 software. Besides, assessment of the correlation between aforementioned parameters with the level of serum vitamin D, in this study, ICSI candidates were divided into three groups [individuals with sufficient vitamin D levels (>30 ng/ml), insufficient vitamin D levels (between 20-29 ng/ml), and VDD (<20 ng/ml)]. The aforementioned parametesr were also compared between these study groups. Results Analysis of all the data revealed a significant correlation between the level of vitamin D with sperm concentration (P=0.000, r=0.5), sperm count (P=0.03, r=0.31) and sperm reactive oxygen species (ROS) level (P=0.000, r=-0.77). Moreover, comparing clinical outcomes within study groups showed a significant difference in implantation rate between sufficient and other groups (insufficient and deficient) (P=0.02). Conclusion Considering the association between sperm concentration and level of ROS with vitamin D and, higher implantation rate in individuals with vitamin D sufficient group compared to other two groups, our data call for vitamin D supplementation as part of male infertility treatment. But considering our sample size, further research is needed to verify these findings.

Abstract
Vitamin D improves the reproductive efficiency in animals. This study aimed to examine the effects of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3-gylcosides (1,25-vitD) on the farrowing process in sows and the vitality of their piglets. In total, 100 sows were allocated into two groups at insemination (‘1,25-vitD’ and ‘negative control’). The 1,25-vitD group received 260−300 mg/sow/day 1,25-vitD in their feed during the gestation period. Backfat thickness, fecal score, and the farrowing process was evaluated. The piglets were categorized into live born or stillborn, and vitality was evaluated by assessing the umbilical cord and the meconium score. The number of total-born piglets in sows of ‘1,25-vitD’ was higher and the farrowing duration was shorter than in the negative control group without showing significance in the univariable analysis. In a linear multiple regression model including the variables ‘farrowing duration’, ‘total born piglets’ and ‘1,25-vitD’ differences became evident. We found that 1,25-vitD was associated with a reduced farrowing duration (p = 0.055). Moreover, significantly more mummies (p < 0.01) and short ruptured umbilical cords (p < 0.05) were observed in the 1,25-vitD group. This study showed an effect of 1,25-vitD on the farrowing process. However, more research is needed to better describe the mechanism of 1,25-vitD in detail.

Abstract
PURPOSE Vitamin D deficiency is common during pregnancy and may cause complications such as preterm labor (PTL). This study was aimed to investigate the effect of the vitamin D-binding protein (VDBP) rs7041 genotype, which has a significant effect on vitamin D metabolism and PTL. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted with 32 pregnant women who had spontaneous PTL and 54 pregnant women who had no specific findings as a control group. Serum total vitamin D 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25(OH)D) levels were measured using the Elecsys Vitamin D Total Kit. VDBP was measured using a VDBP Quantikine ELISA Kit. The levels of bioavailable 25(OH)D were calculated based on the total 25(OH)D and VDBP concentrations. DNA was extracted using the DNeasy Blood and Tissue Kit. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs7041) in GC were analyzed using a TaqMan SNP Genotyping Assay Kit. The unpaired t-test, Chi-squared, and ANCOVA tests were performed. Firth's penalized logistic regression was applied. The area under the curve (AUC) was calculated and the cutoff value was determined. All statistical analyses were performed using R version 4.0.3 (R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria). RESULTS Total 25(OH)D levels were not significantly different between the two groups. Bioavailable 25(OH)D was significantly decreased in PTL women (p= .011), and VDBP was significantly increased in PTL women (p= .004) compared to the controls. Bioavailable 25(OH)D was lower in women with GT/TG and TT rs7041 genotypes than in those with GG, with statistical significance in women with the TT allele (p= .048). VDBP was higher in women with GT/TG and TT than those with GG, but there was no statistical significance. In PTL prevalence, bioavailable 25(OH)D and VDBP, the odds ratio increased by 1.463 times in GT/TG (p= .728) and increased by 1.675 times in TT compared to the GG allele (p= .640). In receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis for bioavailable 25(OH)D and VDBP, the AUC was 0.665 and 0685, respectively. The optimum cutoff of bioavailable 25(OH)D and VDBP levels for the diagnosis of PTL was calculated as 0.6 ng/mL and 523 µg/mL, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Pregnant women with the VDBP rs7041(c.1296 T > G) T allele genotype had reduced serum levels of bioavailable 25(OH)D and were more likely to develop PTL. Therefore, if the T allele is found in the VDBP rs7041 SNP genotyping test before or during pregnancy, more careful prenatal care may be required because of the increased risk of PTL.

ZusammenfassungDie Bedeutung von Mikronährstoffen und einer insgesamt „gesunden Ernährung“ in der Schwangerschaft ist unstrittig. Im Gegensatz dazu ist die Datenlage zum Einfluss der perikonzeptionellen Ernährung auf die Konzeption, Implantation und den weiteren Schwangerschaftsverlauf weit weniger klar. Gesichert scheint, dass ein hoher Anteil von Vollkornprodukten, Früchten, Gemüse, Fisch und Olivenöl bei moderatem Anteil von Kohlenhydraten günstige Effekte entfaltet. Bei Kinderwunsch ist heute die Folsäuresubstitution obligat, diese kann nach aktuellen Leitlinien der Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Wissenschaftlichen Medizinischen Fachgesellschaften durch Vitamin D ergänzt werden.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Vitamin D receptors are present in the female reproductive tract. Studies on the association between serum vitamin D level and pregnancy rate of in vitro fertilization (IVF) showed inconsistent results and focused on a single fresh or frozen embryo transfer cycle. The objective of our study was to evaluate if serum vitamin D level before ovarian stimulation was associated with the cumulative live birth rate (CLBR) of the first IVF cycle. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. METHODS Women who underwent the first IVF cycle from 2012 to 2016 at a university-affiliated reproductive medicine center were included. Archived serum samples taken before ovarian stimulation were analyzed for 25(OH)D levels using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. RESULTS In total, 1113 had pregnancy outcome from the completed IVF cycle. The median age (25th-75th percentile) of the women was 36 (34-38) years and serum 25(OH)D level was 53.4 (41.9-66.6) nmol/L. The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency (less than 50 nmol/L) was 42.2%. The CLBR in the vitamin D-deficient group was significantly lower compared to the non-deficient group (43.9%, 208/474 vs 50.9%, 325/639, P = 0.021, unadjusted), and after controlling for women's age, BMI, antral follicle count, type and duration of infertility. There were no differences in the clinical/ongoing pregnancy rate, live birth rate and miscarriage rate in the fresh cycle between the vitamin D deficient and non-deficient groups. CONCLUSIONS Vitamin D deficiency was prevalent in infertile women in subtropical Hong Kong. The CLBR of the first IVF cycle in the vitamin D-deficient group was significantly lower compared to the non-deficient group.

Abstract
Objective 25(OH)D (Vitamin D) has been investigated for its role in the process of folliculogenesis and thus affects the quality of oocyte produced by in vitro fertilization. Our aims were to investigate the effects of 25(OH)D levels in follicular fluid, follicular estradiol level, successful fertilization rate in IVF treatment and the correlation between 25(OH)D levels in follicular fluid with the oocyte quality. Design and Setting This is an analytic observational study with cross-sectional design conducted between September-November 2018 in two fertility clinics at tertiary hospitals in Bandung, Indonesia. Participants The inclusion criteria were women aged 20-35 years who underwent controlled ovarian stimulation in IVF program with normal ovarian reserve and normal BMI. Eligible women were divided into two groups based on their 25(OH)D levels: low and high. Results There was a significant difference in oocyte quality (p = 0.03) and follicular estradiol levels (p = 0.02) between the two categories of 25(OH)D levels. High level of 25(OH)D has significantly higher level in comparison with the low level of 25(OH)D. No significant differences were found in terms of successful fertilization rate (p = 0.13). High level of 25(OH)D has higher successful fertilization rate compared to low level of 25(OH)D (71.8% vs 55.26%). A significant positive correlation between 25(OH)D level in follicular fluid and oocyte quality was also found (r = 0.32, p = 0.01). Conclusion Women with higher level of 25(OH)D are significantly more likely to have high-quality oocyte and follicular estradiol levels than those with low level of 25(OH)D, although there are no significant results for its relation to successful fertilization rate.
