Abstract
We evaluated GaAs nanoparticle-concentrations in the air and on skin and surfaces in a research facility that produces thin films, and to monitored As in the urine of exposed worker. The survey was over a working week using a multi-level approach. Airborne personal monitoring was implemented using a miniature diffusion size classifier (DiSCMini) and IOM sampler. Environmental monitoring was conducted using the SKC Sioutas Cascade Impactor to evaluate dimensions and nature of particles collected. Surfaces contamination were assessed analyzing As and Ga in ghost wipes. Skin contamination was monitored using tape strips. As and Ga were analyzed in urines collected every day at the beginning and end of the shift. The greatest airborne exposure occurred during the cutting operations of the GaAs Sample (88883 np/cm3). The highest levels of contamination were found inside the hood (As max = 1418 ng/cm2) and on the laboratory floor (As max = 251 ng/cm2). The average concentration on the worker's skin at the end of the work shift (3.36 ng/cm2) was more than 14 times higher than before the start of the shift. In weekly urinary biomonitoring an average As concentration of 19.5 µg/L, which was above the Società Italiana Valori di Riferimento (SIVR) reference limit for the non-occupational population (2.0 - 15 µg/L), but below the ACGIH limit (30 µg/L). Overall, airborne monitoring, surface sampling, skin sampling, and biomonitoring of worker confirmed the exposure to As of workers. Systematic cleaning operations, hood implementation and correct PPE management are needed to improve worker protection.

Abstract
Intake excessive arsenic (As) is related to the occurrence of peripheral neuropathy. However, both the underlying mechanism and the preventive approach remain largely unknown. In the present study, As treatment significantly decreased the mechanical withdrawal threshold and increased the titer of anti-myelin basic protein antibody in rats, accompanied with damaged BNB. The levels of inflammatory cytokines and proteolytic enzymes were also significantly upregulated. However, administration of MeCbl in As-treated rats significantly reversed the decline in hindfoot mechanical withdrawal threshold, as well as BNB failure and sciatic nerve inflammation. Repeated As treatment in athymic nude mice indicated that sciatic nerve inflammation and mechanical hyperalgesia were T cell-dependent. These data implicated that MBP-activated autoimmunity and the related neuroinflammation probably contributed to As-induced mechanical hyperalgesia and MeCbl exerted a protective role probably via maintenance the integrity of BNB and inhibition of neuroinflammation.

Abstract
Clinical neurotoxicology is an unrecognized neurologic subspecialty. Few neurology residency programs offer an organized education or training in the field. Nevertheless, neurotoxic exposures and subsequent injuries are common. This article provides a basic approach to clinical assessment and causal inference. It addresses the knowledge gap for clinical practice and provides a thematic structure to use interdisciplinary resources.

Abstract
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended maximum contaminant level (MCL) of arsenic (As) in drinking water at 10 μg/L. Many Asian countries still have their MCL for As at 50 μg/L. The current cross sectional study was conducted on asymptomatic females (without As related skin lesions) selected from rural areas of West Bengal, Baruipur and Dhamakhali [low As 11-50 μg/L; N,93]; Kamardanga & Sibhati [high As>50 μg/L; N,70] and Boria [Control; As<10 μg/L N,118] of West Bengal, India. The study was designed to compare the status of peripheral blood and lung function due to prolonged As exposure. The lung function parameters were considered according to Miller's prediction quadrant - FVC less than 80% indicated restrictive lung, FEV1/FVC less than 70% showed obstructive lung and both FVC and FEV1/FVC less than predicted percentage exhibited combined lung function decrement. The study showed that groundwater As concentration [22.5 ± 19.2 (low), 67.8 ± 26.9 (high) and 1.02 ± 2.3 μg/L (control)] was correlated with nail As content of the enrolled women. Linear regression depicted that nail As content influenced reduction of haemoglobin (β: 0.43; 95%CI: 0.02 to -0.006; p = 0.0001) and CD56+ NK cells (β: 0.53; 95%CI: 0.07 to -0.03; p = 0.0001) per 1 μg/g increase in As in nails. Multivariate logistic regression exhibited that nail As content was associated with reduction of lung function parameters [FEV1 (Exp B:1.04; 95%CI: 1.022 to 1.055; p = 0.0001) and FVC (Exp B:1.05; 95%CI: 1.03 to 1.07; p = 0.0001) per 1 μg/g increase in As in nails. Hence the study may be indicative of the fact that even in asymptomatic women, increase in chronic As exposure may weaken immune surveillance and provoke respiratory ailments.

Abstract
Arsenic induced senescence (AIS) has been identified in the population of West Bengal, India very recently. Also there is a high incidence of arsenic induced peripheral neuropathy (PN) throughout India. However, the epigenetic regulation of AIS and its contribution in arsenic induced PN remains unexplored. We recruited seventy two arsenic exposed and forty unexposed individuals from West Bengal to evaluate the role of senescence associated miRNAs (SA-miRs) in AIS and their involvement if any, in PN. The downstream molecules of the miRNA associated with the disease outcome, was also checked by immuoblotting. In vitro studies were conducted with HEK 293 cells and sodium arsenite exposure. Our results show that all the SA-miRs were upregulated in comparison to unexposed controls. miR-29a was the most significantly altered, highest expression being in the arsenic exposed group with PN, suggesting its association with the occurrence of PN. We looked for the expression of peripheral myelin protein 22 (PMP22), a specific target of miR-29a associated with myelination and found that both in vitro and in vivo results showed over-expression of the protein. Since this was quite contrary to miRNA regulation, we checked for intermediate players β-catenin and GSK-3β upon arsenic exposure which affects PMP22 expression. We found that β-catenin was upregulated in vitro and was also highest in the arsenic exposed group with PN while GSK-3β followed the reverse pattern. Our findings suggest that arsenic exposure alters the expression of SA-miRs and the mir-29a/beta catenin/PMP22 axis might be responsible for arsenic induced PN.

Abstract
Global methylation pattern regulates the normal functioning of a cell. Research have shown arsenic alter these methylation landscapes within the genome leading to aberrant gene expression and inducts various pathophysiological outcomes. Long interspersed nuclear elements (LINE-1) normally remains inert due to heavy methylation of it's promoters, time and various environmental insults, they lose these methylation signatures and begin retro-transposition that has been associated with genomic instability and cancerous outcomes. Of the various high throughput technologies available to detect global methylation profile, development of LINE-1 methylation index shall provide a cost effect-screening tool to detect epimutagenic events in the wake of toxic exposure in a large number of individuals. In the present review, we tried to discuss the state of research and whether LINE-1 methylation can be considered as a potent epigenetic signature for arsenic toxicity.

Abstract
Association of arsenic exposure with smoking, alcohol, and caffeine consumption was investigated. Data from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for the years 2005-2010 were used for this investigation. Urinary levels of total arsenic (UAS) and dimethylarsonic acid (UDMA) were evaluated for children aged 6-12 years and adolescents and adults aged ≥ 12 years. Urinary levels of arsenobetaine (UAB) were evaluated for adolescents and adults only. Regression models were fitted for log transformed values of UAB, UAS, and UDMA. For the models for children, however, gender, race/ethnicity, SES, and fish/shell fish consumption during the last 30 days were the only independent variables that were included in the models. Nonsmokers were found to have higher levels of UAS and UDMA than smokers. Elevated levels of UAB, UAS, and UDMA were associated with higher amounts of daily alcohol consumption. The associations were in the opposite direction for daily caffeine consumption. Females were found to have statistically significantly lower adjusted levels of UDMA than males for those aged ≥ 12 years. Irrespective of age, those with unclassified race/ethnicity had the highest levels of UAB, UAS, and UDMA and non-Hispanic whites had the lowest levels. Adolescents had the higher levels of UAB, UAS, and UDMA than adults. Higher SES was associated with higher levels of UAB, UAS, and UDMA among adolescents and adults. Irrespective of age, fish consumption was associated with higher levels of UAB, UAS, and UDMA.
