Abstract
BACKGROUND The timing of food intake can affect the physiological and metabolic functions of the body. However, whether and how the timing of dietary antioxidant intake could influence non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is largely unknown. The Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) serves as a comprehensive measure that encompasses various dietary antioxidants. This study aims to investigate the association between the meal timing of CDAI and NAFLD in American adults. METHODS We used data from the 2017-2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Dietary intake was assessed through the implementation of two non-concurrent 24-h dietary recalls. Vibration-controlled transient elastography was employed to assess the controlled attenuation as an indicator of NAFLD. CDAI across the day (total, breakfast, lunch, dinner) and Δ CDAI (Δ = dinner-breakfast) were categorized into quartiles. Weighted logistic regression models and restricted cubic splines were used to evaluate the association between the meal timing of CDAI and NAFLD. RESULTS Of the 6570 participants in this study, 1153 had NAFLD. Participants in the highest quartile of total CDAI levels had a lower risk of NAFLD compared with the lowest quartile (OR = 0.52; 95% CI, 0.38-0.71). More importantly, participants in the highest quartile of dinner CDAI, but not those in that of breakfast or lunch, had a lower risk of NAFLD (OR = 0.54; 95% CI, 0.40-0.73) compared with the lowest quartile. The restricted cubic splines indicated a linear relationship between total CDAI and NAFLD (Pfor nonlinearity = 0.70), as well as between dinner CDAI and NAFLD (Pfor nonlinearity = 0.19). Stratification analyses revealed that the effect of dinner CDAI on NAFLD varied between non-Hispanic Whites and individuals of other races (Pfor interaction = 0.032). CONCLUSIONS these findings suggest the potential beneficial effects of an antioxidant-rich diet and strategic meal timing on NAFLD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) measures the antioxidant capacity of the diet, which is believed to provide protection against various diseases, including depression, osteoporosis, and papillomavirus infection, by neutralizing harmful oxidative stress. However, the relationship between CDAI and infertility is not well understood. This research aims to explore the potential correlations between CDAI and the risk of infertility. METHODS This research harnessed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to execute a cross-sectional analysis involving 8263 US women aged 20-45. Each participant was subjected to two distinct 24-h dietary recall interviews. We calculated the CDAI using average daily antioxidant intake. Infertility was assessed using a standardized questionnaire. The association between CDAI and infertility was examined using weighted multiple logistic regression models, while nonlinear correlations were explored through restricted cubic splines. To affirm the robustness of our findings, sensitivity and subgroup analyses were performed using unweighted logistic regression. Additionally, to ascertain the causal influence of circulating antioxidant levels on infertility, a two-sample univariable Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was conducted, using the inverse variance weighted (IVW) method as the primary analytic approach. RESULTS Participants who were infertile exhibited lower CDAI levels compared to their fertile counterparts. When confounding variables were accounted for in the multivariate weighted logistic regression model, an inverse relationship was observed between CDAI and infertility, with the odds ratio for the highest versus lowest quartile being 0.55 (0.33-0.90, P = 0.02). However, the IVW method indicated that genetically predicted elevated levels of CDAI did not significantly correlate with infertility. CONCLUSION Cross-sectional observational studies indicate that antioxidants from diets might diminish infertility risks. However, findings from MR studies do not confirm a causal connection. Additional prospective research is required to elucidate this association further.

Abstract
Background The potential beneficial health effects of dietary antioxidants have been reported. However, the association of a composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) with fatty liver index (FLI) remains unclear. This study aims to assess whether CDAI (including its components) is associated with FLI among US adults. Methods This population-based cross-sectional study used data on US adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007-2018 cycles. Weighted generalized linear regression models were used to analyze the association between CDAI (including vitamin A, C, E, zinc, selenium, and carotenoids) and FLI, which was calculated by using body mass index (BMI), waist circumference and levels of γ-glutamyl transferase and triglycerides. Results Weighted generalized linear regression models showed an inverse association between CDAI and FLI in the total population (β, -0.40; 95% CI, -0.59, -0.21), in women (β, -0.56; 95% CI, -0.94, -0.18), and in men (β, -0.32; 95% CI, -0.54, -0.10) after adjusting for various confounders. The restricted cubic splines showed the negative linear dose-response associations between CDAI and FLI (all P non_linear >0.05). The dietary selenium intake in women has an inverse U-shaped relationship with FLI, with an inflection point value of 110 μg. In model 3, intake of dietary antioxidants Vitamins A, C, E, and carotenoids were significantly negatively associated with FLI in female but only were vitamins A and E negatively associated with FLI in male. In subgroup analysis, CDAI showed a significantly negative relation to FLI among those aged 60 years or older (β, -0.57; 95% CI, -0.81, -0.33), among those who engaged in active physical activity (β, -0.46; 95% CI, -0.63, -0.29), among those without metabolic syndrome (β, -0.43; 95% CI, -0.62, -0.24), and those without hyperuricemia (β, -0.43; 95% CI, -0.60, -0.26). Additionally, CDAI was significantly negatively associated with male FLI, regardless of whether they had diabetes or not. Conclusion In conclusion, our results indicate that higher CDAI may be associated with a lower FLI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We aimed to examine the relationship of 2 dietary scores [dietary inflammatory index (DII) and composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI)] with frailty in elderly adults with diabetes. METHODS Data were gathered from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2007 and 2018. The frailty index was calculated using 49 deficits across various systems to define frailty. To examine the relationship of 2 dietary scores (DII and CDAI) with frailty in elderly adults with diabetes, multiple logistic regression analyses were performed. In logistic regression model, DII and CDAI were calculated as both continuous and tertiles. Subgroup analyses were performed to demonstrate stability of results. Restricted cubic splines were utilized to examine the non-linear correlations. RESULTS A total of 2,795 elderly adults with diabetes were included in this study. In the multivariate logistic regression model, the odds ratio (OR) of DII for risk of frailty was 1.08 (95% CI 1.02-1.15) and the OR of CDAI for risk of frailty was 0.96 (95% CI 0.93-0.99). The ORs of DII for risk of frailty were 1.36 (95% CI 1.09-1.70) and 1.33 (95% CI 1.04-1.70) for tertiles 2 and 3, respectively (p for trend 0.027). The ORs of CDAI for risk of frailty were 0.94 (95% CI 0.75-1.17) and 0.75 (95% CI 0.58-0.98) for tertiles 2 and 3, respectively (p for trend 0.036). The subgroup analysis demonstrated reliable and enduring connections between 2 dietary scores and frailty (all p for interaction > 0.05). In the restricted cubic spline analyses, we discovered the non-linear relationship between DII and frailty (P for nonlinearity = 0.045) and linear relationship between CDAI and frailty (P for nonlinearity = 0.769). CONCLUSION The research showed connections between 2 dietary scores (DII and CDAI) and frailty as measured by frailty index in elderly adults with diabetes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In developing nations, myocardial infarction (MI) remains a significant contributor to deaths from sudden cardiac arrest, with diet playing a key role in its incidence through oxidative stress mechanisms. Although the connection between the Dietary Antioxidant Index (DAI) and cardiovascular diseases has been demonstrated in some studies, the relationship between DAI and MI has not been extensively explored. Therefore, this research aims to investigate this association. METHODS We conducted a nested case-control study involving 156 MI cases and 312 healthy controls, utilizing data from the Fasa Adults Cohort Study (FACS), a population-based study of individuals aged 35-70 residing in Fasa, Iran, with 11,097 participants included at baseline. The DAI was determined by normalizing the intake values of six dietary vitamins and minerals, adjusting by subtracting the global mean, and then dividing by the global standard deviation. MI diagnosis was established by an experienced cardiologist using electronic medical records. Conditional logistic regression was employed to examine the association between DAI and MI. RESULTS There were no significant differences between the case and control groups in terms of age (P = 0.96), gender distribution (P = 0.98), and education level (P = 0.38). In a multiple conditional logistic regression analysis, after adjusting for key variables-including body mass index (BMI), smoking status, education level, and serum levels of triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), total cholesterol (TC), fasting blood sugar (FBS), saturated fatty acids (SFA), and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA)-an inverse association was found between DAI and the risk of myocardial infarction (MI) [adjusted Odds Ratio (Adj OR) = 0.88, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 0.85-0.92; P < 0.001]. CONCLUSIONS This study highlights the crucial role of the DAI in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction. Promoting diets rich in antioxidants presents a straightforward and effective strategy for MI prevention and the promotion of cardiovascular health, underscoring the novelty and significance of this research in dietary approaches to disease prevention.

Abstract
Background This study aimed to examine the associations of the Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) with sarcopenic obesity (SO) using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. Methods Data were gathered from NHANES between 2001 and 2004. To examine the relationship between CDAI and the occurrence of SO, multiple logistic regression analyses were performed. Subgroup analyses were performed to demonstrate the stability of the results. Restricted cubic splines were utilized to examine the non-linear correlations. Results A total of 2,333 elderly individuals were included in the study. In the multivariate logistic regression crude model, we revealed an odds ratio (OR) of 0.928 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.891-0.965, p < 0.001] for the correlation between CDAI and SO. The ORs were 0.626 (95% CI, 0.463-0.842) and 0.487 (95% CI, 0.354-0.667) for CDAI tertiles 2 and 3, respectively (p for trend <0.001), after full adjustment. The subgroup analysis findings demonstrated a reliable and enduring connection between CDAI and SO across various subgroups. However, the strength of the correlation between CDAI and SO was significantly affected by diabetes (p for interaction = 0.027). Moreover, restricted cubic spline analysis revealed an L-shaped relationship. Conclusion The present study identified an L-shaped correlation between CDAI and SO in elderly participants' demographics. The implications of these findings were significant for future studies and the formulation of dietary guidelines.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The occurrence and progression of asthma can be influenced by the components in food. Our study aims to determine whether dietary antioxidant and inflammatory potential are associated with the risk of mortality in asthma patients. METHODS Participants from the 2001-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) aged 20 years and older with a diagnosis of asthma were included. Mortality status was obtained according to death certificate records from the National Death Index. The antioxidant and inflammatory potential of the diet was assessed using two widely used and dependable indices, Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) and Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII). Restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression was used to analyze the non-linear relationship between the two indexes and mortality. Multivariable Cox proportional risk models were used to estimate hazard ratio and 95% confidence intervals for mortality. Finally, the relationship between CDAI and DII was analyzed. RESULTS A total of 4698 NHANES participants represented 23.2 million non-institutionalized residents of the US were enrolled in our study. Patients with higher CDAI or lower DII exhibited longer survival times. RCS regression showed a linear relationship of CDAI or DII with mortality. In the Cox regression, both crude and adjusted models demonstrated that higher CDAI or lower DII was linked to a reduced risk of all-cause mortality. Similar associations were found in subgroup analysis. Finally, a negative relationship was found between CDAI and DII. CONCLUSION Reducing pro-inflammatory or increasing antioxidant diets could reduce all-cause mortality among adult asthma patients.

Abstract
Background Severe headache or migraine is a neurological disease that seriously affects the quality of human life. Oxidative stress is considered a main factor in the pathogenesis of severe headache or migraine. The Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) is a score calculated using six dietary antioxidant components (including vitamins A, C, E, selenium, zinc, and carotenoid), which represents a person's level of dietary antioxidant ingredients. Based on the theory of oxidative stress, we speculated that CDAIs may be relevant to the risk of severe headache or migraine, as the relationship between the CDAI and severe headache or migraine is unclear. Hence, the purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the CDAI and severe headache or migraine in participants. Methods We performed a cross-sectional study using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) that were collected from 2001 to 2004. A total of 4,943 participants were included, of whom 1,232 experienced severe headaches or migraines. Participants' CDAIs were calculated based on their intake of six dietary antioxidants. We used logistic regression models, limited cubic spline analysis, and subgroup analysis to assess the association of CDAI with severe headache or migraine. Results The multivariate logistic regression model (correcting for all potential covariates) revealed that the odds ratio (95% Confidence Interval [CI]) for the association between CDAI and severe headache or migraine was 0.97 (95% CI = 0.95-1.00, p = 0.048). Compared with individuals with low CDAIs in Quartile (Q)1, the adjusted Odds Ratio between the CDAI and severe headache or migraine in Q2, Q3, and Q4 were 0.84 (95% CI = 0.69-1.01, p = 0.07), 0.77 (95% CI = 0.63-0.96, p = 0.017), and 0.73 (95% CI = 0.56-0.95, p = 0.02), respectively. Restricted cubic spline regression analysis showed an L-shaped relationship between the CDAI and severe headache or migraine. Conclusion Our findings indicate that higher CDAI was associated with a lower risk of severe headache or migraine.

Abstract
Background The development of metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has been associated with lipid accumulation, oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and lipotoxicity. The Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) is a comprehensive score representing an individual intake of various dietary antioxidants, including vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, zinc, and carotenoids. This study investigated the association between CDAI and MASLD. Materials and methods Clinical and demographic data, as well as ultrasound transient elastography measurements at baseline, were collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2017-2020 (NHANES 2017-2020). The controlled attenuation parameter was utilized to diagnose the presence of hepatic steatosis and to categorize individuals into those with and without MASLD. Liver stiffness was measured by ultrasound transient elastography, and subjects were classified as those with and without advanced liver fibrosis. Results This study included 5,884 adults, of whom 3,433 were diagnosed with MASLD, resulting in a weighted prevalence of 57.3%. After adjusting for covariates, the odds ratios for MASLD were 0.96 (95% CI: 0.82, 1.12) in the second quartile, 0.80 (95% CI: 0.68, 0.95) in the third quartile and 0.60 (95% CI: 0.49, 0.73) in the fourth quartile, respectively. CDAI, however, was not significantly associated with advanced liver fibrosis. Conclusion These findings suggested that scores on the CDAI were linearly and negatively associated with the prevalence of MASLD in the United States adults.

Abstract
Background Oxidative stress is acknowledged as a pivotal factor in the intricate pathophysiological processes and pathogenesis of constipation. Modifying dietary patterns can elevate in vivo antioxidant biomarker levels, consequently mitigating oxidative stress. The Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) provides a dependable scoring mechanism for quantifying the potential antioxidant capacity of diets. The association between CDAI levels and the risk of constipation remains uncertain. Purpose To investigate the potential correlation between CDAI and constipation, aiming to improve constipation management through dietary guidance. Methods A total of 11,165 adults aged ≥20 years, drawn from the 2005-2010 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. We evaluated the correlation between CDAI levels and the risk of constipation through three weighted logistic regression models. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis was employed to assess nonlinear trends, and stratified analyses were conducted. Results After adjusting for all confounding variables, the findings revealed an association between CDAI and constipation [OR = 0.937; 95% CI (0.892, 0.984), p = 0.012]. Moreover, individuals in the highest quartile of CDAI demonstrated a 40.1% lower likelihood of experiencing constipation compared to those in the lowest quartile [OR = 0.599; 95% CI (0.382, 0.939), p = 0.027]. The RCS analysis indicated a linear relationship between CDAI and constipation (P-non-linear =0.1016). Subgroup analysis by gender revealed a negative correlation in the male population [OR = 0.871; 95% CI (0.801, 0.947), p = 0.002], with men in the highest CDAI quartile exhibiting a 59.8% lower likelihood of experiencing constipation compared to those in the lowest quartile [OR = 0.402; 95% CI (0.206, 0.787), p = 0.010]. Furthermore, alterations in selenium [OR = 0.997; 95% CI (0.995, 1.000), p = 0.039] per milligram were independently linked to constipation. In a gender subgroup analysis of a single antioxidant, changes per milligram of vitamin E [OR = 0.904; 95% CI (0.838 to 0.975), p = 0.011] among males were independently associated with constipation. Conclusion The fully adjusted model showed a correlation between CDAI and constipation and a significant correlation in quartiles. Meanwhile, subgroup analysis by gender showed that CDAI was negatively associated with constipation in the male population. Moreover, the findings of this study imply that investigations into antioxidant diets should be contextualized within dietary patterns.

Abstract
Background Although diabetic retinopathy (DR) is closely related to dietary patterns and oxidative stress, there is little research on the relationship between the compound dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) and DR. This study aims to fill this gap by analyzing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to explore the association between CDAI and DR in patients with type 2 diabetes, in order to provide a basis for dietary guidance to prevent DR. Methods Data for this study was obtained from NHANES conducted between 1999 and 2020. Information regarding dietary intake was collected through 24 h dietary recall interviews. Multivariate logistic regression analyses and restricted cubic splines (RCS) were employed to explore the association between CDAI and DR. Furthermore, subgroup analyses were conducted to further examine the relationship. Results In this study, a total of 2,158 participants were included, with a mean age of 58.87 years. After adjusting for all potential confounding factors, multivariate logistic regression analyses consistently demonstrated a negative correlation between CDAI and DR (OR = 0.94, 95%CI: 0.90-0.98, p = 0.007). Specifically, individuals in the highest quartile of CDAI had a significantly reduced risk of DR compared to those in the lowest quartile (OR = 0.51, 95%CI: 0.34-0.75, p < 0.001). The RCS analyses further confirmed the linear negative correlation between CDAI and DR (non-linear p = 0.101). Additionally, subgroup analyses provided further evidence for the robustness of this association across different subpopulations. Conclusion Our study highlights the linear negative correlation between CDAI and DR in type 2 diabetic patients. Further prospective studies are still needed in the future to confirm the role of CDAI in the risk of developing DR.

Abstract
Background Oxidative stress is a known pathogenic mechanism in cardiovascular disease (CVD), yet the association between dietary antioxidants and CVD in the general population remains underexplored. This study leverages data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to investigate the association of a composite dietary antioxidant index with CVD in US adults. Methods Analyzing data from 25,997 adults (2011-2020 NHANES), we employed weighted generalized linear models, subgroup analysis, threshold effect analyses, and sensitivity analysis to assess the association between dietary antioxidants and CVD. Nonlinear associations were explored through a restricted cubic spline, with gender-specific stratification and threshold effect analysis to identify critical inflection points. Results Increasing levels of the composite dietary antioxidant index corresponded with decreased CVD prevalence (P < 0.001). In all models, weighted generalized linear models revealed a consistent negative association between CVD prevalence. And in Model 3, Quartile 4 had a 29% lower CVD prevalence than Quartile 1[0.71 (0.59, 0.85), P < 0.001]. Meanwhile, the findings of the unweighted logistic regression model demonstrated stability. Various characteristics such as sex, age, race, PIR, education, BMI, alcohol consumption, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes did not influence this inverse association (P for interaction >0.05). Notably a nonlinear association was observed, with a significant inflection point at 3.05 among women. Conclusion This study demonstrates a strong negative association between the composite dietary antioxidant index and CVD prevalence, suggesting the potential protective role of dietary antioxidants. These findings underscore the need for prospective studies to further understand the impact of oxidative stress on cardiovascular health.

Abstract
Background This cross-sectional study aims to explore the interactive effects of the Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) and Body Mass Index (BMI) on stroke risk among U.S. adults, utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2001 and 2018. Methods The analysis involved 42,042 participants from a representative sample of non-institutionalized U.S. civilians, selected through a stratified, multistage probability sampling method. Dietary intake data were collected over two 24-h periods using the Automated Multiple-Pass Method. The study calculated a modified CDAI to assess dietary antioxidant intake, excluding supplements and water sources. Statistical methods included multivariable logistic regression and Generalized Additive Models (GAM) to evaluate the interaction between CDAI scores and BMI in relation to stroke risk, adjusting for a wide range of demographic, lifestyle, and health covariates. Results The research identified a significant interaction between CDAI scores and BMI categories in stroke risk assessment. While a negative correlation was observed between CDAI scores and stroke risk across the total population (OR 0.97, 95% CI 0.96-0.99), this relationship varied notably across different BMI groups. In participants with a BMI ≥25, a statistically significant negative association persisted, displaying a non-linear pattern. The study also revealed an inflection point in the CDAI score, indicating a shift in the relationship between dietary antioxidants and stroke risk. Conclusion This study underscores the complex interaction between dietary antioxidant intake and BMI in determining stroke risk among U.S. adults. The findings suggest that individuals with higher BMI may experience more pronounced benefits from dietary antioxidants in stroke prevention. These insights could inform targeted dietary recommendations and public health strategies aimed at reducing stroke risk, particularly in populations with higher BMI. Further research is needed to fully understand these interactions and their implications for stroke prevention guidelines.

Abstract
Objectives: We conducted an assessment to explore potential associations of the dietary oxidative balance score (DOBS), cardiovascular disease (CVD), with all-cause mortality among older adults, while also exploring the potential moderating effect of DOBS on the relationship between CVD and mortality. Methods: This study included 9059 older adults (≥60 years) from NHANES 2003-2014. Determination of DOBS involves scoring the combination of 16 nutrients, comprising 2 pro-oxidants and 14 anti-oxidants. Cox regression analysis was used to assess the individual associations of CVD and DOBS status with all-cause mortality. Additional evaluations were conducted to assess the combined impact of CVD and DOBS status on mortality, and the interaction were estimated. Sensitivity analyses were performed by excluding participants who died within two years. Results: The findings demonstrated a significant association between pro-oxidant diet (lower DOBS) or CVD and elevated mortality risk among older adults. It is also suggested that older adults with CVD and pro-oxidant diet exhibit the highest risk of all-cause mortality (HR = 1.96, 95% CI: 1.64-2.34), compared to individuals without CVD who follow an antioxidant-rich diet. Further stratified analysis based on CVD status revealed a different pattern in the correlation between pro-oxidant diet and all-cause mortality risk (P for interaction = 0.015). The results of sensitivity analysis were consistent. Conclusions: The lower levels of DOBS and/or CVD were significantly associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality in older adults. Notably, we also identified a significant interaction between DOBS and CVD affecting all-cause mortality.

Abstract
Studies on the beneficial role of dietary antioxidants in preventing or managing hypertension in postmenopausal women are infrequent. The present cross-sectional study aimed to assess the association between dietary antioxidants and hypertension among menopausal women in Rafsanjan, a city located in the southeast of Iran. This study was based on data from the Rafsanjan Cohort Study (RCS), as part of the Prospective Epidemiological Research Studies in IrAN (PERSIAN). Among 2359 postmenopausal women, finally, 1936 women were included in this study. Participants were grouped as having normal blood pressure (BP), elevated BP, stage 1 hypertension, or stage 2 hypertension as defined by the 2017 American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) BP guideline. A food frequency questionnaire (FFQ), was utilized to ascertain the levels of various nutrients and dietary antioxidants in the diet. The association between dietary intakes of antioxidants and blood pressure groups was evaluated by crude and adjusted models in the multinominal logistics regression analysis. Normal BP, elevated BP, stage 1 hypertension, and stage 2 hypertension were observed in 35.69%, 3.62%, 10.59%, and 50.10% of postmenopausal women respectively. In the adjusted model, in subjects with higher consumption of β-carotene, the odds ratios of elevated BP in the 3rd quartile was about 2 times (OR: 2.04 (1.06-3.93) higher than 1st quartile. Also, in subjects with medium quality of DAQS, the odds ratios of elevated BP and stage 1 blood pressure were about 2 times (OR: 2.09 (1.05-4.17) and 1.69 times (OR: 1.69 (1.09-2.63) higher than subjects with low quality respectively. Furthermore, we did not find any statistically significant association between increased intake of dietary antioxidants and decreased odds of hypertension. After controlling the effects of confounding variables, increased dietary intake of selenium, carotenoids, vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E did not decrease the odds of hypertension in postmenopausal women. Accordingly, it is suggested that this association be further investigated in the follow-up phase of this prospective study.

Background The high prevalence of kidney stones in adults worldwide has prompted research into potential interventions, one of which involves exploring the consumption of antioxidants that may confer protective effects. However, the relationship between the composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI), a crucial measure used to assess an individual's overall antioxidant capacity from daily dietary intake, and kidney stones remains unclear. Therefore, we conducted cross-sectional analysis to examine the association between CDAI and kidney stone prevalence. Methods The analysis was conducted utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2007 to 2018. Antioxidant intake was derived from two 24-h dietary recalls surveys, while CDAI, a comprehensive measure that includes antioxidants like vitamins A, C, and E, zinc, selenium, and carotenoids, was calculated. Multivariate logistic regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression were utilized to examine the association between CDAI and the prevalence of kidney stones. Results The study included a total of 28,516 participants, with 2,748 individuals having a history of kidney stones. The median of CDAI was -0.01 (-2.02, 2.37). Individuals in the fourth quartile of CDAI exhibited a significantly lower prevalence of kidney stones compared to those in the first quartile (Odds Ratio [OR] = 0.769 [0.633-0.935]), even after adjusting for potential confounding factors (including age, sex, race, education level, poverty income ratio, smoking status, drinking status, body mass index (BMI), energy intake levels, physical activity level, serum calcium concentration, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), hypertension, diabetes and supplement use). The RCS analysis revealed a non-linear relationship between CDAI and kidney stone prevalence, with inflection points identified at 0.06 (p for non-linearity = 0.039). Subgroup analysis demonstrated consistent CDAI-kidney stone prevalence associations across all subsets. Furthermore, a significant inverse correlation was observed between CDAI and inflammatory markers. Conclusion This study provides evidence supporting a reciprocal correlation between adult dietary antioxidant intake, as measured by CDAI, and kidney stone prevalence. These findings emphasize the potential benefits of consuming dietary antioxidants in lowering the risk of kidney stone formation.

Abstract
Objective The objective of this study is to assess the correlation between composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) with all-cause mortality and cause-specific mortality in adults with hypertension. Methods The cohort study comprised adult participants with hypertension from the NHANES database, spanning 9 cycles from 2001 to 2018. Follow-up was conducted until December 31, 2019. Multi-variable Cox regression analysis was utilized to ascertain hazard ratios (HR) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals, evaluating the relationship between CDAI and the risks of all-cause and cause-specific mortality. To further investigate the association between CDAI and mortality rates in adults with hypertension, Kaplan-Meier survival curves, restricted cubic splines (RCS), subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses were employed. Results The analysis included 16,713 adults with hypertension (mean age 56.93 ± 0.23 years, 8,327 [49.61%] male). During the mean follow-up time 102.11 ± 1.22 months, with 3,908 (18.08%) all-cause mortality occurred, 1,082 (4.84%) cardiovascular mortality and 833 (3.80%) cancer mortality. Compared to the lowest quartile of CDAI, the weighted multivariate hazard ratios of participants in the highest quartile was 0.77 (95% CI, 0.68-0.87) for all-cause mortality, 0.83 (95% CI, 0.67-1.04) for cardiovascular mortality, and 0.64 (95% CI, 0.50-0.82) for cancer mortality. RCS analysis demonstrated a nonlinear association of CDAI with all-cause and cancer mortality, and a linear association between CDAI and cardiovascular mortality. The results were robust in subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses. Conclusion Higher CDAI is associated with reduced all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and cancer mortality in hypertensive adults. Our findings highlight the importance of an antioxidant diet in improving outcomes in adults with hypertension.

Abstract
Current research has shown an increasing acceptance of interventions for depression through dietary modifications. However, whether composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) is associated with depression and all-cause mortality in middle-aged and elderly population remains unknown. This study aimed to explore those associations in American middle-aged and elderly population. Weighted logistic regression models and weighted Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to assess the association of CDAI, covariates, depression, and all-cause mortality, respectively. The stability of the results was also determined by a linear trend test based on CDAI quintiles. Restricted cubic spline curves were employed to test for non-linear relationships. In the model adjusted for all covariates, significant associations were found with the ORs (95% CI) for CDAI and depression [0.77 (0.67, 0.89)] and the HRs (95% CI) for CDAI with all-cause mortality[0.91 (0.83, 1.00)]. Upon conducting restricted cubic spline curves, we found that the association between CDAI and depression was linear, whereas the association between CDAI and all-cause mortality was non-linear with an inflection point of -0.19. Statistical significance was only found before the inflection point. In this study of middle-aged and elderly Americans, CDAI was linearly negatively associated with depression and non-linearly negatively associated with all-cause mortality.

Abstract
Higher intakes of individual antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, and E have been linked to mortality in the general population, but the association of overall antioxidant intake with mortality especially in depressed adults remains unclear. We aimed to investigate whether the dietary overall antioxidant intake is associated with all-cause and cause-specific mortality among depressed adults. This study included 3051 US adults with depression, who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2005 to 2018. Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) was used to define depression and evaluate depression severity. The dietary antioxidant quality score (DAQS) and dietary antioxidant index (DAI) were calculated based on the intakes of vitamins A, C, and E, zinc, selenium, and magnesium. A higher DAQS and DAI were significantly associated with lower depression scores (PHQ-9) (all P-trend < 0.05). For individual antioxidants, significant negative associations of vitamins A and E with all-cause mortality were observed. For overall antioxidant intake, the DAQS and DAI were inversely associated with all-cause and cancer mortality. Compared with participants in the lowest categories of DAQS and DAI, the corresponding HRs (95% CIs) in the highest categories were 0.63 (0.42-0.93) and 0.70 (0.49-0.98) for all-cause mortality and 0.39 (0.17-0.87) and 0.43 (0.21-0.88) for cancer mortality, respectively. The overall dietary antioxidant intake was beneficially associated with all-cause and cancer mortality in depressed adults. These findings suggest that comprehensive dietary antioxidant intake may improve depressive symptoms and lower mortality risk among adults with depression.

Abstract
Objective Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) values serve as a summary of an individual's combined dietary antioxidant intake. Although specific antioxidants are known to reduce thyroid damage from oxidative stress, the relationship between the CDAI and thyroid function remains uncertain. The purpose of this study was thus to investigate this relationship in greater detail while focusing on a representative American adult population. Methods A total of 6,860 subjects from the 2007-2012 NHANES cohort were included in this study. Associations between CDAI values and thyroid function were evaluated with weighted linear regression models and smoothed curve fitting. Subgroup analyses were also performed. Results The weighted mean (SD) values for variables analyzed in this study included a CDAI of 0.13 (0.06), serum free T4 (FT4) levels of 0.80 (0.01) ng/dL, and serum total T4 (TT4) levels of 7.80 (0.03) ug/dL. Lower CDAI values were found to be associated with higher levels of FT4 and TT4 using both unadjusted and adjusted models that accounted for relevant confounders (adjusted model, FT4 β = -0.003, p = 0.005; TT4 β = -0.035, p < 0.001). This negative correlation persisted when CDAI was categorized into quartiles (FT4, p for trend = 0.014; TT4, p for trend = 0.003). Conclusion These findings suggest that a diet rich in antioxidants, as reflected by higher CDAI scores, is associated with significant decreases in levels of free and total T4. Further analyses will be necessary to better clarify the underlying mechanisms behind these observations.

Abstract
Background There is a growing acknowledgment of the potential influence of antioxidative effects resulting from dietary decisions on the occurrence of stroke. The objective of this study was to elucidate the correlation between the composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) and the incidence of stroke in the general population of the United States. Methods We gathered cross-sectional data encompassing 40,320 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning the years 1999 to 2018. Employing weighted multivariate logistic regression, we assessed the correlation between CDAI and stroke, while also investigating potential nonlinear relationships through restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression. Further, the intake of CDAI components were then incorporated into a predictive nomogram model, subsequently evaluated for its discriminatory prowess in stroke risk assessment using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results Post-adjustment for confounding variables, we found that higher CDAI score were associated with a decreased risk of stroke, the odds ratio (OR) [95% CI] of CDAI associating with prevalence was 0.96 [0.94-0.98] (P< 0.001). Moreover, the adjusted OR [95% CI] for stroke across ascending CDAI quartiles stood at 0.90 [0.74-1.09], 0.74 [0.60-0.91], and 0.61 [0.50-0.76] compared to the reference quartile, respectively. The RCS analysis indicated a nonlinear yet negative correlation between CDAI and stroke. The nomogram model, constructed based the intake of antioxidants, exhibited a significant predictive capacity for stroke risk, boasting an area under the curve (AUC) of 77.4% (76.3%-78.5%). Conclusion Our investigation ascertained a nonlinear negative relationship between CDAI and stroke within the broader American population. However, given the inherent limitations of the cross-sectional design, further comprehensive research is imperative to establish the causative nature of this association.

Abstract
Background There is growing evidence that an antioxidant diet is a protective factor against frailty. However, few studies have examined the effect of comprehensive dietary antioxidants on frailty symptoms. The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between the composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) and frailty and the underlying mechanisms involved. Methods Based on the National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHANES) 2003-2018, this study included 11,277 older persons aged ≥60 years. In this study, frailty was defined as having a total score >0.21 on the 49-item frailty index. Six dietary antioxidants were selected for use in calculating the CDAI. A weighted multiple logistic regression model with subgroup analysis and restricted cubic splines (RCSs) were used to examine the association between the CDAI and frailty. To examine the role of oxidative stress, mediation analyses were also conducted. Results The association between the CDAI score and frailty risk was significant according to the multivariate model. Compared with participants in tertile 1, participants in both tertile 2 and tertile 3 had lower odds of developing frailty symptoms (OR=0.86; 95% CI=0.75-0.97; P=0.02; and OR=0.81; 95% CI=0.70-0.93; P=0.003). According to the subgroup analyses, the differences in interactions were not statistically significant. There was also a potential nonlinear relationship between the CDAI score and frailty risk. The serum albumin concentration and uric acid concentration had significant mediating effects on the association between the CDAI score and frailty index, with 19.25% (P=0.002) and 21.26% (P < 0.001) of the total, respectively. Conclusion Frailty is negatively associated with the CDAI score, which may be partially mediated by oxidative stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Low back pain is the leading cause of productivity loss, imposes a significant economic burden on the patients and society. Oxidative stress is considered a critical factor in the complex pathophysiological process and pathogenic mechanism of low back pain. Adjustment dietary pattern can effectively increase antioxidant biomarkers levels within the body to reduce oxidative stress. The composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) serves a reliable scoring system for quantifying the potential dietary antioxidant capacity of daily diets. OBJECTIVE We aim to investigate the potential association between CDAI and low back pain, in order to enhance the management of low back pain through dietary guidance. METHODS This study included 17,682 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999-2000, 2001-2002, 2003-2004 and 2009-2010. The weighted logistic regression model was used to investigate the association between CDAI and low back pain, while restricted cubic spline (RCS) was employed to examine non-linear trend and cutoffs. RESULTS After adjusting for all confounders, the results showed that there was no significant association between CDAI and low back pain. However, individuals in the highest quartile of CDAI exhibited an 11.7% less likelihood of experiencing a low back pain than those in the lowest quartile (OR = 0.883; 95% CI [0.787,0.991], P = 0.034), and the trend test was also significant (P for trend < 0.001). RCS indicated a linear relationship between CDAI and low back pain (P for non-linear = 0.876). Gender subgroup analysis showed that this negative association was significant in the female population (OR = 0.983; 95% CI [0.968, 0.998], P = 0.027), and females in the highest quartile of CDAI were 19.7% less likely to suffer low back pain than those in the lowest quartile (OR = 0.803; 95% CI [0.682,0.945], P = 0.008). Additionally, the changes in zinc (OR = 1.009; 95% CI [1.002, 1.016], P = 0.015) and selenium (OR = 0.379; 95% CI [0.164, 0.875], P = 0.023) per milligram were independently associated with low back pain. CONCLUSION The fully adjusted model showed no significant association between CDAI and low back pain, but it was significant in quartiles. Meanwhile, subgroup analysis by gender revealed a negative association between CDAI and low back pain in the female population. Additionally, the findings of this study also suggested that the antioxidant diets should be studied in a dietary pattern context.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to explore the potential correlation between the composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) and biological aging, addressing the insufficient epidemiological evidence in this area. METHODS Participants meeting eligibility criteria were selected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) conducted between 2001 and 2018. CDAI was determined based on dietary antioxidants obtained from 24-hour dietary recalls. Biological age was determined using PhenoAge algorithms incorporating various clinical features. Weighted multiple models were employed to investigate and assess the association between CDAI and biological age. RESULTS Analysis of the CDAI quartile revealed disparities in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, educational level, marital status, poverty, dietary calories intakes, smoking, drinking status, BMI, physical activity, and PhenoAge. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, a significant inverse relationship was found between CDAI and Phenotypic Age, with each standard deviation increase in CDAI score correlating with a 0.18-year decrease in Phenotypic Age. These negative correlations between CDAI and PhenoAge advancement were observed regardless of age, gender, physical activity status, smoking status, and body mass index. CONCLUSIONS Our findings demonstrate a positive relationship between higher CDAI scores and delayed biological aging. These results have significant implications for public health initiatives aimed at promoting healthy aging through dietary interventions.

Abstract
Background Chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) pose a significant global health burden. Antioxidant-rich diets have been associated with improved lung health, but the specific relationship with CRDs remains unclear. Methods This study examined the relationship between dietary antioxidant intakes and CRDs using data from the 2001-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Information on dietary antioxidant intakes, including vitamins A, C, and E, zinc, selenium, and carotenoid, were collected from the 2 24-h recall interviews to calculate composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI). CRDs were determined based on self-reported physician diagnoses. To examine the relationship between CDAI and CRDs, multivariate logistic regression was used. To study potential non-linear correlations within these associations, restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression was performed. Results The study involved 40 557 individuals. The median CDAI was -0.09 (-2.05, 2.25). We discovered those who were in the fourth quartile of CDAI scores had a 19% lower prevalence than those in the first quartile (OR = 0.81 [0.72-0.91], Ptrend < 0.01) after adjusting for all relevant covariates. The fourth quartile of CDAI was linked with a lower prevalence of emphysema (OR = 0.57 [0.40-0.81], Ptrend < 0.01) and chronic bronchitis (OR = 0.74 [0.62-0.88], Ptrend < 0.01). RCS regression showed that CDAI was non-linearly related to the prevalence of CRDs, with inflection points of 3.20 (P for non-linearity <0.01). The stratified analysis did not identify variables that significantly affected the results. Conclusion Higher dietary antioxidant intakes were related with a lower prevalence of CRDs (particularly emphysema and chronic bronchitis) in general adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) is a dietary antioxidant score that plays a protective role in many diseases, including depression, osteoporosis, papillomavirus infection, etc. However, the association between CDAI and coronary heart disease (CHD) is currently unclear. We aim to explore the correlations between CDAI and the risk of CHD. METHODS Eligible participants were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999 to 2018. All participants in this cross-sectional study are required to undergo two separate 24-h dietary recall interviews. Average daily intakes of dietary antioxidants were used to calculate CDAI. CHD status was determined through a questionnaire. Weighted multiple logistic regression models were used to evaluate the relationship between CDAI and CHD. Moreover, we also used restricted cubic spline to explore Non-linear correlations. Sensitivity analysis using unweighted logistic analysis and subgroup analysis were used to demonstrate the stability of the results. RESULTS A total of 34,699 participants were eligible for analysis.Compared to the participants without CHD, the participants with CHD showed lower levels of CDAI. After adjusting confounding factors in the multivariate weighted logistic regression model, CDAI was inversely associated with CHD (Q4 vs. Q1, OR = 0.65 (0.51-0.82, P < 0.001). Restricted cubic spline showed that there was a negative non-linear correlation (L-shaped) between CDAI and CHD, suggesting a potential saturation effect at higher CDAI levels, with the inflection point of 0.16. Sensitivity analysis showed that the results were stable. No significant statistically interaction was showed in subgroup analysis. CONCLUSIONS There was a negative non-linear correlation between CDAI and CHD in US adults. However, further prospective studies are still needed to reveal their relationship.

Abstract
Background It remains unclear how antioxidant intake affects all-cause mortality in osteoarthritis (OA) patients. In this prospective cohort study, we aim to explore the association of the Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) with all-cause mortality and investigate the interaction of physical activity (PA) and CDAI on all-cause mortality in OA populations. Methods A total of 3,197 adults with OA in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2001 to 2018 were included in this study. Death outcomes were obtained from National Death Index (NDI) records. Multivariable Cox regression analyses with cubic spines were applied to estimate the association of CDAI with all-cause mortality. The interaction between CDAI and PA on all-cause mortality was further assessed in stratified analysis and interaction tests. Results The hazard ratios for all-cause mortality were 0.95 (0.77-1.17) for Q2, 0.75 (0.59-0.97) for Q3, and 0.71 (0.55-0.92) for Q4 (P for trend <0.001), compared with the lowest quartile of CDAI. A negative linear association was found between CDAI and all-cause mortality. In the stratified analyses, CDAI was negatively associated with all-cause mortality in the insufficient PA group. While in the low and sufficient PA group, there were nonlinear relationships of CDAI with all-cause mortality. Conclusion A negative linear relationship was observed between CDAI and all-cause mortality in OA patients, and this association was significantly modified by PA. Higher intake of dietary antioxidants might be the interventional objective to reduce the risk of all-cause mortality in the US OA population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies show that oxidative stress is important in heart failure (HF) pathogenesis. The composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI), which reflects the antioxidant profile of nutrient supplements, is associated with cardiovascular mortality risk. However, the association between CDAI and the risk of HF remains unknown. HYPOTHESIS In this study, we investigated the relationship between CDAI and HF risk using National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES) data. METHODS The data of participants aged >40 years old from the NHNANES between 2001 and 2018 were obtained and used to assess the relationship between CDAI and the risk of HF. Logistic regression was used to calculate the odds ratio (OR) of CDAI for the risk of HF. RESULTS A total of 29 101 participants were divided into the HF (n = 1419; 4.88%) and non-HF groups (n = 27 682; 95.12%), HF group participants had lower CDAI than the non-HF group (-0.32 ± 0.14 vs. 0.67 ± 0.05, p < .0001). Compared with the lowest CDAI quartile (Q1), the OR for HF risk was 0.88 (0.68-1.13) for Q2 (p = .30), 0.77 (0.61-0.99) for Q3 (p = .04), and 0.68 (0.52-0.89) for Q4 (p = .01). CONCLUSIONS CDAI was negatively associated with the risk of HF. Our findings show that the intake of an antioxidant-rich dietary is a potential method to reduce the risk of HF.

Abstract
Objectives: There is growing evidence that antioxidant-rich diets protect against chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, the relationship between the Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI), an important measure of an antioxidant diet, and CKD has received little attention. Therefore, here we investigated the relationship between the CDAI and CKD through a cross-sectional analysis of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2018 data. Methods: The CDAI was calculated based on the intake of six dietary antioxidants. A survey-based multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to analyze the independent relationship between the CDAI and CKD. Weighted multivariate regression and subgroup analyses were conducted to explore the relationship between the CDAI and CKD. Results: A total of 6874 NHANES participants represented 181.9 million non-institutionalized US residents (mean age, 46.43 ± 0.38 years; 49.87% female; 40.62% non-Hispanic white; 20.24% non-Hispanic black; and 13.94% Mexican American). The weighted linear regression model with full adjustment for confounding variables was -0.0155 (-0.0417, 0.0107) for Q2 (P for trend <0.0001), -0.0052 (-0.0346, 0.0242) for Q3 (P for trend <0.0001), and -0.0305 (-0.0491, -0.0120) for Q4 (P for trend = 0.0094) upon comparison with the lowest quartile of the CDAI. None of the interactions in any subgroup analysis were statistically significant except for individuals with a history of diabetes or the aged population (≥60 years) (P for interaction <0.05). Conclusions: The CDAI was positively associated with a lower prevalence of CKD in adults in the United States. Further large-scale prospective studies are required to analyze the role of the CDAI in CKD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Numerous studies have demonstrated a close relationship between antioxidant-rich diets and comorbidities as well as mortality. However, the relationship between such diets and aging remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between the Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) and aging. METHODS All participants were from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2001-2010. Phenotypic age was calculated using a formula and subtracted from the chronological age to determine the aging. When the phenotypic age exceeded the chronological age, it was considered as aging. A weighted logistic regression model was employed to explore the relationship between CDAI and aging. Restricted cubic splines (RCSs) were used to examine the potential nonlinear relationship between them. Subgroup analysis and joint analysis were conducted to explore the effect of modifiers in these relationships. RESULTS A total of 19,212 participants (weighted: 165,285,442 individuals) were included in this study. The weighted logistic regression model showed a significant correlation between CDAI and the risk of aging (OR = 0.90, 95% CI: 0.84-0.96). RCS analysis revealed an L-shaped dose-response relationship between CDAI and the risk of aging. Subgroup analysis indicated that the association between CDAI and aging was more pronounced in middle-aged individuals and non-smokers. The joint analysis demonstrated that although smoking accelerated aging among participants, a high CDAI diet could still offset these damages. CONCLUSIONS The association between high CDAI and reduced risk of aging is particularly significant in young and middle-aged individuals and non-smokers. Consuming foods rich in CDAI components may potentially lower the risk of aging.

Abstract
The relationship between composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) levels and the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in postmenopausal women is unknown. In total, 3109 women from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2013-2018 were included in this cross-sectional study. We evaluated the association between CDAI levels and the risk of ASCVD by using three logistic regression models and restricted cubic splines. A stratified analysis and sensitivity analysis were also conducted. The restricted cubic splines exhibited an L-shaped dose-response association between CDAI levels and the ASCVD risk. Logistic regression analysis found that CDAI levels were negatively associated with the occurrence of ASCVD. The ORs associated with a per-SD increase in CDAI were 0.67 (95% CI: 0.51-0.88) for ASCVD risk. Similarly, women in the group with high CDAI levels were less likely to have ASCVD (OR = 0.71, 95% CI: 0.50-0.98) compared to those in the group with low CDAI levels. When the CDAI levels were divided into quartiles, it was found that the ORs for ASCVD with CDAI levels in Q2 (-1.04-1.11), Q3 (1.11-3.72), and Q4 (3.72-43.87) were 0.63 (0.44, 0.90), 0.64 (0.42, 0.94), and 0.51 (0.27, 0.97), respectively, compared to those with CDAI levels in Q1 (-6.83--1.04). In addition, age, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, and smoking behaviors acted as potential modifiers, and ORs were more significant in women aged 40-69 years, in individuals with low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, and in smokers (p for interaction <0.05). These findings may offer valuable insights into the role of CDAI levels in the development of ASCVD among postmenopausal women.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION There is evidence that individual antioxidants may increase bone mineral density (BMD) in patients with low BMD. However, the association between overall dietary antioxidant intake and BMD is unclear. The objective of this study was to examine how overall dietary antioxidant intake is related to BMD. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 14,069 people participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2005 and 2010. Dietary Antioxidant Index (DAI) was calculated from the intake of vitamins A, C, E, zinc, selenium, and magnesium, which indicates a nutritional tool to assess the overall antioxidant properties of the diet. The correlation between the Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) and BMD was examined using multivariate logistic regression models. In addition to fitting smoothing curves, we fitted generalized additive models as well. Furthermore, to ensure data stability and avoid confounding factors, subgroup analysis was also conducted on gender and body mass index (BMI). RESULTS A significant association was demonstrated by the study between CDAI and total spine BMD (β = 0.001, 95% CI 0-0.001, P = 0.00039). And just like that, CDAI was positively correlated with femoral neck (β = 0.003, 95% CI 0.003-0.004, P < 0.00001) and trochanter (β = 0.004, 95% CI 0.003-0.004, P < 0.00001). In the gender subgroup analysis, CDAI maintained a strong positive correlation with femoral neck and trochanter BMD in males and females. Nevertheless, the link with total spine BMD was only observed in males. In addition, in the subgroup analysis stratified by BMI, CDAI showed a significantly positive relation to BMD of the femoral neck and trochanter in each group. However, the significant relationship between CDAI and BMD of the total spine was only maintained when BMI was above 30 kg/m2. CONCLUSION This study found that CDAI correlated positively with femoral neck, trochanter, and total spine BMD. This suggests that intake of a diet rich in antioxidants can reduce the risk of low bone mass and osteoporosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dietary fiber is a functional substance with strong antioxidant activity that plays an important role in human health. Dietary fiber has been shown to reduce the risks of many types of cancers, but whether it can reduce the risk of death in cancer survivors remains undetermined. METHODS This study included the dietary data of cancer survivors who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys from 2001 to 2018. Firstly, the relationship between fiber intake and composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) was explored by weighted multiple regression and smooth curve. Subsequently, multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to explore the effects of dietary fiber intake and CDAI level on the risks of all-cause, tumor, and cardiovascular death among cancer survivors. RESULTS A total of 2077 participants were included in the study, representing approximately 11,854,509 cancer survivors in the United States. The dietary fiber intake of tumor survivors had a nonlinear positive relationship with CDAI levels (β = 0.24, 95% CI: 0.08-0.40, p = 0.004). Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models showed that high dietary fiber intake and CDAI levels were associated with reduced risks of all-cause and tumor death in tumor survivors, but were not associated with the risk of cardiovascular death. CONCLUSION An increased dietary fiber intake can enhance the body's antioxidant capacity. A higher dietary fiber intake and CDAI level may reduce the risk of all-cause and tumor death in tumor survivors.

Abstract
To investigate the associations of composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) with risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality among individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). This prospective cohort study included 7551 patients with T2D who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999 through 2018. Death statistics were gathered by connecting the cohort database to the National Death Index through December 31, 2019. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models were utilized to calculate hazard ratios and 95% CIs for the relationship of CDAI with risks of CVD and all-cause mortality. Three multivariable models were built. Restricted cubic spline analyses were utilized to explore the nonlinear association of CDAI with CVD mortality, and nonlinearity was tested by the likelihood ratio test. This cohort study included data from 7551 participants with T2D (mean [SE] age, 61.4 (0.2) years; 3811 male [weighted, 50.5%] and 3740 female [weighted, 49.5%]; median CDAI level, - 2.19 [IQR, - 2.19 ~ - 0.22]). A total of 2227 all-cause deaths and 746 CVD deaths were identified during an average of 98 months of follow-up. Nonlinear associations were observed for CDAI (P < 0.05 for nonlinearity) with risk of CVD mortality among patients with T2D. Compared with participants in the first quartile of CDAI levels (< - 2.19), the hazard ratios for CVD mortality were 0.47 (95% CI 0.30-0.75) for participants in the highest CDAI level quartile. This cohort study found that higher CDAI levels were significantly associated with lower risk of CVD mortality among individuals with T2D.

Abstract
Background The Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI), a composite score of multiple dietary antioxidants (including vitamin A, C, and E, selenium, zinc, and carotenoids), represents an individual's comprehensive dietary antioxidant intake profile. CDAI was developed based on its combined effect on pro-inflammatory markers Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α) and anti-inflammatory effects of Interleukin-1β (IL-1β), which are associated with many health outcomes, including depression, all-cause mortality, colorectal cancer, etc. Handgrip strength is used as a simple measure of muscle strength, not only is it highly correlated with overall muscle strength, but also serves as a diagnostic tool for many adverse health outcomes, including sarcopenia and frailty syndromes. Purpose The association between CDAI and Handgrip strength (HGS) is currently unclear. This study investigated the association between CDAI (including its components) and HGS in 6,019 American adults. Method The research data were selected from the 2011-2014 National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHANES), and a total of 6,019 American adults were screened and included. A weighted generalized linear regression model was used to evaluate CDAI (including its components) and HGS. Results (1) CDAI was significantly positively correlated with HGS (β = 0.009, 0.005∼0.013, P < 0.001), and the trend test showed that compared with the lowest quartile of CDAI, the highest quartile of CDAI was positively correlated with HGS (β = 0.084, 0.042∼0.126, P = 0.002) and significant in trend test (P for trend < 0.0100). Gender subgroup analysis showed that male CDAI was significantly positively correlated with HGS (β = 0.015, 0.007∼0.023, P = 0.002), and the trend test showed that compared with the lowest quartile of CDAI, the highest quartile of CDAI was positively correlated with HGS (β = 0.131, 0.049∼0.213, P = 0.006) and the trend test was significant (P for trend < 0.0100). There was no correlation between female CDAI and HGS, and the trend test was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). (2) The intake of dietary vitamin E, Zinc and Selenium showed a significant positive correlation with HGS (β = 0.004, 0.002∼0.007, P = 0.006; β = 0.007, 0.004∼0.009, P < 0.001; β = 0.001, 0.001∼0.001, P < 0.001), vitamin A, vitamin C and carotenoid were significantly associated with HGS in the Crude Model, but this significant association disappeared in the complete model with the increase of control variables. Gender subgroup analysis showed that in model 3, male dietary intake levels of vitamin E, Zinc, and Selenium were significantly positively correlated with HGS (β = 0.005, 0.002∼0.009, P = 0.011; β = 0.007, 0.004∼0.011, P = 0.001; β = 0.001, 0.001∼0.001, P = 0.004), the rest of the indicators had no significant correlation with HGS. Among the female subjects, dietary zinc intake was significantly positively correlated with HGS (β = 0.005, 0.001∼0.008, P = 0.008), and there was no significant correlation between other indicators and HGS (P > 0.05). Conclusion There was an association between the CDAI and HGS, but there was a gender difference, and there was an association between the CDAI and HGS in male, but the association was not significant in female. Intake of the dietary antioxidants vitamin E, selenium, and zinc was associated with HGS in male, but only zinc was associated with HGS among dietary antioxidants in female.
