Abstract
The present study evaluates the effect of including microencapsulated hot chili pepper (MHCP) in the diet of crossbred dairy cows on the volume and quality of milk and on ovarian morphofunctionality. Twenty-four crossbred females in their lactating period were used. The cows were divided into two experimental groups, a control (CT) and an MHCP -supplemented group (CP) given 1 g a day per animal of microencapsulated hot chili in concentrate for 42 days. Over seven weeks of daily milk production was measured, and sample milk was collected weekly for composition analysis. Animals were subject to an ovulation synchronization protocol on day 0 (D0), and an intravaginal progesterone (P4) implant, estradiol benzoate, and prostaglandin (PGF2α) were administered. On D8, the P4 implant was removed and PGF2α, equine chorionic gonadotropin, and estradiol cypionate were administered to the animals. The ovarian dynamics were evaluated in B mode and color Doppler. There were significant differences (p < 0.05) in the group X time interaction, the volume of milk produced, and the amount in kg/day of milk components. There was a higher percentage of vascularization in the preovulatory follicle in the CP group (p ≥ 0.10). The findings show that the inclusion of MHCP in the diet of dairy cows does influence their milk production and reproduction.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of essential oils (EOs) extracted from Cannabis sativa L. and Cannabis indica Lam. on in vitro ruminal fermentation characteristics, selected rumen microbial populations, and methane production. GC-MS analyses allowed us to identify 89 compounds in both EOs. It was found that E-β-caryophyllene predominated in C. sativa (18.4%) and C. indica (24.1%). An in vitro (Ankom) test was performed to analyse the control and monensin groups, as well as the 50 µL or 100 µL EOs. The samples for volatile fatty acids (VFAs), lactate, and microbiological analysis were taken before incubation and after 6 and 24 h. The application of EOs of C. indica resulted in an increase in the total VFAs of acetate and propionate after 6 h of incubation. The applied EOs had a greater impact on the reduction in methane production after 6 h, but no apparent effect was noted after 24 h. Lower concentrations of C. sativa and C. indica had a more pronounced effect on Lactobacillus spp. and Buryrivibrio spp. than monensin. The presented findings suggest that C. sativa and C. indica supplementation can modify ruminal fermentation, the concentrations of specific volatile fatty acids, and methane production.

Abstract
Cuticular wax, a critical defense layer for plants, remains a relatively unexplored factor in rumen fermentation. We investigated the impact of cuticular wax on rumen fermentation using triticale as a model. In total, six wax classes were identified, including fatty acids, aldehydes, alkane, primary alcohol, alkyresorcinol, and β-diketone, with low-bloom lines predominated by 46.05% of primary alcohols and high-bloom lines by 35.64% of β-diketone. Low-wax addition (2.5 g/kg DM) increased the gas production by 19.25% (P < 0.05) and total volatile fatty acids by 6.34% (P > 0.05), and enriched key carbohydrate-fermenting rumen microbes like Saccharofermentans, Ruminococcus, and Prevotellaceae, when compared to non-wax groups. Metabolites linked to nucleotide metabolism, purine metabolism, and protein/fat digestion in the rumen showed a positive correlation with low-wax, benefiting rumen microbes. This study highlights the intricate interplay among cuticular wax, rumen microbiota, fermentation, and metabolomics in forage digestion, providing insights into livestock nutrition and forage utilization.

Abstract
The objectives of the study were to screen one or several Chinese herbal extracts with good ammonia emission reduction effects using an in vitro gas production study. The study consisted of a control (without Chinese herbal extract), and 11 experimental groups with added cinnamon extract (CE), Osmanthus extract (OE), tangerine peel extract (TPE), dandelion extract (DE), Coptis chinensis extract (CCE), honeysuckle extract (HE), Pulsatilla root extract (PRE), yucca extract (YE), licorice extract (LE), Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE), or astragalus extract (AE). The results showed that HE, PRE, YE, LE, GBE, and AE significantly reduced ammonia production (p ≤ 0.05). The most significant ammonia inhibition was achieved via AE, resulting in a 26.76% reduction. In all treatments, Chinese herbal extracts had no significant effect on pH, conductivity, or uric acid, urea, and nitrate-nitrogen concentrations (p > 0.05). However, AE significantly reduced urease activity and the relative activity of uricase (p ≤ 0.05). AE significantly increased the relative abundance of Bacteroides and decreased the relative abundance of Clostridium, Desulfovibrio, and Prevotell (p ≤ 0.05). Astragalus extract inhibited ammonia emission from laying hens by changing the gut microbial community structure, reducing the relative abundance of ammonia-producing bacteria, and reducing microorganisms' uricase and urease activities.

Abstract
Supplementation of the sheep diet with oats (Avena sativa L.) improves animal growth and meat quality, however effects on intestinal microbes and their metabolites was not clear. This study aimed to establish the effect of dietary oat supplementation on rumen and colonic microbial abundance and explore the relationship with subsequent changes in digesta metabolites. Twenty Small-tail Han sheep were randomly assigned to a diet containing 30 g/100 g of maize straw (Control) or oat hay (Oat). After 90-days on experimental diets, rumen and colon digesta were collected and microbial diversity was determined by 16S rRNA gene Illumina NovaSeq sequencing and metabolomics was conducted using Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography Q-Exactive mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QE-MS). Compared to Control group, oat hay increased the abundance of Bacteroidetes and Fibrobacteres as well as known short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) producers Prevotellaceae, Ruminococcaceae and Fibrobacteraceae in rumen (p < 0.05). In rumen digesta, the Oat group showed had higher levels of (3Z,6Z)-3,6-nonadienal, Limonene-1,2-epoxide, P-tolualdehyde, and Salicylaldehyde compared to Control (p < 0.05) and these metabolites were positively correlated with the abundance of cecal Prevotellaceae NK3B31. In conclusion, supplementation of the sheep diet with oat hay improved desirable microbes and metabolites in the rumen, providing insight into mechanisms whereby meat quality can be improved by oat hay supplementation.

Abstract

The experimental design was arranged in a 2 × 2 × 3 factorial format together with two temperatures (normal: 39°C; hyperthermal: 42°C), two forage/concentrate ratios (30:70; 70:30), and two CAP concentrations in the incubation fluid at 20 and 200 mg/L with a control group. Regarding the fermentation characteristics, high temperature reduced short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) production except for molar percentages of butyrate while increasing acetate-to-propionate ratio and ammonia concentration. The diets increased total SCFA, propionate, and ammonia concentrations while decreasing acetate percentage and acetate-to-propionate ratio. CAP reduced acetate percentage and acetate-to-propionate ratio. Under hyperthermal condition, CAP could reduce acetate percentage and increase acetate-to-propionate ratio, lessening the negative effect of high heat on SCFA. Hyperthermal condition and diet altered the relative abundance of microbial abundance in cellulose-degrading bacteria. CAP showed little effect on the microbial abundance which only increased Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens. Thus, CAP could improve rumen fermentation under different conditions, with plasticity in response to the ramp of different temperature and dietary conditions, although hardly affecting rumen microbial abundance.

Abstract
The assessment of Asteráceae Family Plants (rhizomes and roots of elecampane and wormwood) influence on the process of methane formation in the rumen ecosystem and metabolic processes was carried out. Studies (in vitro) were carried out using ANKOM Daisy II incubator (modifications D200 and D200I) according to a specialized method. Rumen contents were obtained from beef bulls with chronic rumen fistula. Gas analysis of air and volatile fatty acids samples was performed by gas chromatography. The results of the study showed that different dosages of phytobiotic preparations did not significantly affect the characteristics of fermentation in vitro. Phytobiotic preparations of elecampane and wormwood reduce the production of methane in the ruminal fluid, which may be associated with various active components or dosages of their administration.
