Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this review was to identify and characterize the use of the natural environment/outdoor space by occupational therapists working in mental health care. This included consideration of the characteristics of the environment used, interventions, mental health conditions being treated, and the outcomes being used. INTRODUCTION Research has demonstrated the link between human health and the environment. The benefits appear to be particularly relevant to people with mental health conditions. Occupational therapists already consider the environment when assessing and developing interventions, and therefore are well placed to consider and use the natural environment in mental health practice. However, the use of the natural environment by occupational therapists working in mental health is unclear. INCLUSION CRITERIA The scoping review included any publication relating to the use of the natural environment/outdoor space in mental health occupational therapy practice. All forms of the natural environment or outdoor space were included, such as hospital gardens and local parks. There were no geographical, gender, or age restrictions. All mental health diagnoses were eligible for inclusion. METHODS Seven databases were searched: Embase (Ovid), Emcare (Ovid), MEDLINE (Ovid), PsycINFO (ProQuest), AMED (Ovid), Trip Database, and CINAHL (EBSCOhost). Gray literature was also searched using a selection of websites and digital repositories. Papers written in English were searched, with no time limit set on publication. Titles and abstracts were screened by 2 independent reviewers for assessment against the inclusion criteria, followed by a full-text review and data extraction. Data were extracted using the data extraction tool developed by the authors. Findings were presented in a tabular format, accompanied by a narrative summary describing how the results relate to the review objectives and question. RESULTS Of peer-reviewed publications, 7 papers used qualitative methods and 7 used mixed methodology. The remaining sources included conference abstracts, unpublished works, a book chapter, and a website article. The environments used included forests, beaches, gardens, and parks. A variety of interventions were delivered in these environments, including gardening and nature-based activities, physical activities, and animal-assisted interventions. Such activity-focused interventions are largely delivered in a group context, thus providing a social element. A diverse range of mental health conditions were treated. Several methods were used to consider the outcomes on the individual, including both qualitative measures and quantitative outcome measurement tools. CONCLUSIONS The review highlights many characteristics of how the natural environment is being used across mental health services by occupational therapists. A variety of conditions are targeted for such interventions, and several outcome measures have been used to understand impact. This review can support further development and implementation of nature-based approaches in mental health occupational therapy.

Abstract
PURPOSES This study aimed to examine the discriminatory impacts of two major impairment factors-job presenteeism and attention presenteeism (JP and AP)-in presenteeism on burnout and to verify the multiple mediating effects of organizational and supervisory support in their causal relationship to provide theoretical and practical implications for alleviating burnout among rehabilitation medical workers (RMWs). METHODS Participants were convenience sampled from 23 hospitals and rehabilitation medical institutions in Korea, and 494 datasets were analyzed using the R packages R-studio, Jamovi, and JASP. RESULTS The significant effects of JP and AP on burnout were investigated; AP (0.609) had a much higher effect than JP (0.170) on burnout among RMWs. Moreover, the multiple mediating effects of organizational support and supervisory support were verified in the JP-AP relationship and burnout among RMWs. Additionally, the absolute effect on burnout was more from AP than JP, and organizational support had a far more significant effect than supervisory support in the process of affecting burnout. CONCLUSIONS The present study contributes to the literature on burnout by examining the relationships between presenteeism and burnout and by extending the current understanding of burnout and presenteeism to RMWs. And it is practically important to understand that the effect of AP was greater than that of JP between the two key sub-factors of presenteeism affecting burnout among RMWs, and Korean RMWs are more affected by support from the organization system than by personal support from their boss. Related theoretical and practical implications are further elaborated.

Abstract
(1) Background: There are few studies of burnout syndrome (BS) in occupational therapists (OTs), and protective factors for BS have received little attention in the scientific literature. This research aimed to estimate the prevalence of BS, characterize the associated psychosocial factors, and analyze their relationship with health in a sample of Spanish OTs. (2) Methods: A total of 127 therapists completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and other standardized questionnaires measuring: personality traits (reduced five-factor personality inventory, NEO-FFI), coping styles (Coping Strategies Questionnaire, CAE), work-family conflict (Survey Work-Home Interaction Nijmegen, SWING), professional factors (role ambiguity/clarity and modified role conflict questionnaires), and the perception of health (Goldberg's General Health Questionnaire). Several correlational and multiple regression analyses were performed to study the psychosocial predictors of burnout and its relationship with health perceptions. (3) Results: 15.8% of the professionals presented BS, with emotional exhaustion (EE; 38.7%) being the most compromised dimension. Neuroticism, role conflict, negative work-family interaction, and open emotional expression (OE) significantly predicted a higher EE. The main predictors of cynicism (CY) were being male, role conflict, and OE. Role conflict, role ambiguity and social support-seeking were significant predictors of reduced professional efficiency (PE). (4) Conclusions: A high percentage of OTs with BS suggests the need for increased awareness of the importance of this syndrome in the health community. It would be critical to consider the protective factors (i.e., emotional management, social support) that help promote OTs' well-being and health.

Abstract
Introduction The coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) has had a severe psychological impact on occupational therapists. Clarifying the mental health status of occupational therapists and its relationship with therapy quality is essential for maintaining the quality of care and patients' quality of life. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate whether and how mental health problems are related to the quality of occupational therapy. Methods A nationwide cross-sectional online survey was conducted during Japan's second national state of emergency (January 2021). A total of 4,418 registered occupational therapists who were members of the Japanese Association of Occupational Therapists participated in this study. After screening for the exclusion criteria, data from 1,966 participants were analyzed. Results Path analysis showed that insufficient information provision by the workplace and increased workload were associated with depression, anxiety, and insomnia. Specifically, depression was associated with decreased therapy quality. Furthermore, one's therapy quality showed a strong positive correlation with colleagues' therapy quality. Discussion These results demonstrated a direct link between therapists' mental health conditions and therapy quality and suggested that decreased therapy quality might occur at the institutional rather than individual level. A reassessment of the support system and prompt detection and support for professionals with psychological symptoms may be the key to enhancing therapy quality and patients' quality of life. The present results contribute to the understanding of these relationships, considering the current pandemic context for occupational therapists.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify the factors associated with burnout among professionals of a multidisciplinary team from an oncology hospital. METHOD This is a descriptive quantitative study that used a cross-sectional observational design. A sociodemographic, clinical, and professional questionnaire developed by the authors and three items from the Professional Quality of Life Scale were used for data collection. For data analysis, the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were used. The significance level adopted was 5%. RESULTS A total of 442 professionals from the multidisciplinary team participated in the study. Participants showing more factors associated with burnout were those who witnessed a higher number of deaths and conflicts in the workplace, worked the night shift, used medications, and did not have religious beliefs, among others. CONCLUSION Although professionals had an average score in the burnout domain, many variables were related to factors associated with burnout, identifying imminent danger to workers and exposing patients and the institution. Strategies should be developed to minimize the risks identified in this study.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Identifying the extent and predictors of burnout among occupational therapy practitioners is important so strategies can be developed to reduce burnout and mitigate associated consequences within the profession. OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence and determinants of burnout reported by U.S. occupational therapy practitioners. DESIGN Cross-sectional survey. PARTICIPANTS Occupational therapy practitioners working in a wide range of clinical settings who spent at least 50% of their time in direct patient care and who had been employed continuously for more than 6 mo. OUTCOMES AND MEASURES The outcome of interest was burnout, which was measured using the Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalization, and Personal Accomplishment subscales of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS). Predictor variables included sociodemographic and workplace characteristics. The relationship between MBI-HSS subscale scores and predictor variables was jointly estimated using a multivariate multivariable linear regression analysis. RESULTS One hundred seventy-eight occupational therapy practitioners completed the survey. Higher perceived level of supervisor support, satisfaction with income, and educational attainment were associated with lower MBI-HSS subscale scores (ps = .001, .002, and .005, respectively). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE Burnout among occupational therapy practitioners can be conceptualized as an issue of workplace health and safety. Various stakeholder groups can consider potential systematic interventions involving measures to promote positive supervisor support in the workplace and salary negotiation skills for early-stage clinicians. Future research should explore broad interventions to reduce burnout among clinicians. What This Article Adds: We estimated the extent and predictors of burnout among U.S. occupational therapy practitioners. Future research, advocacy, and policy should address structural-level interventions to promote workplace cultures and conditions that can protect the occupational therapy workforce from burnout.

Abstract
Background The negative impacts of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have worsened the quality of therapy, psychological condition, and work life of second-line healthcare workers and occupational therapists (OTs). However, no study has investigated whether the impact of COVID-19 varies among OTs working in different fields. This study aimed to investigate the differences on the impact of COVID-19 between OTs in the physical and mental health fields. Methods A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in Japan between January 20 and January 25, 2021. A total of 4,418 registered OTs who were members of the Japanese Association of Occupational Therapists volunteered for this study. After screening using the exclusion criteria, 1,383 participants were classified into two groups based on their field (mental health and physical health), and their quality of therapy, psychological condition, and work life were analyzed. Results OTs in the mental health field showed a greater decrease in therapy quality and increase in workload and a lower rate of decrease in working hours than those in the physical health field. In the multinomial logistic regression analysis, decreased and increased therapy quality and decreased therapy quality were significantly associated with depression in the physical health field, and decreased therapy quality was associated with insomnia in the mental health field. Furthermore, insomnia and anxiety were commonly associated with increased workload and working hours, respectively, in both fields, whereas anxiety and depression were associated with increased workload only in the physical health field. Conclusions These results demonstrate that COVID-19 differently impacted quality of treatment, workload, work time, and psychological condition in the physical and mental health fields; moreover, the relationships among these are different in these two fields. These results highlight the importance of investigating the field-specific negative impacts of COVID-19 on OTs and may provide helpful information for devising tailored and effective prevention and intervention strategies to address these challenges.

Abstract
Objective: To study burnout of Russian physicians in the conditions of COVID-19 pandemic and how their work with coronavirus-infected patients influenced it. According to a three-factor model of burnout developed by Maslach and Jackson, this syndrome includes emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduction of personal accomplishment.Design: A cross-sectional survey study.Setting: Large medical practice.Participants: Physicians of different specialties.Methods: Data collection was conducted from June 23 to July 12, 2020. We developed a Google form including a questionnaire and psychological inventories and placed it in a medical portal. Maslach Burnout Inventory - Human Services Survey for Medical Personnel was used to study burnout; the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale was used to determine anxiety and depression.Results: Of all the physicians who took part in the study (N = 599), 31.2 % worked with coronavirus-infected patients. Of the medical personnel who treated COVID-19 patients, 63.6% noted increased workload during the pandemic. Compared to other physicians, they more often had a high degree of emotional exhaustion (43.3 % vs 33.0 %, φ* = 2.404, P ≤ 0.01) and depersonalization (41.7 % vs 34, 0%, φ* = 1.803, P ≤ 0.05). An overwhelming majority of physicians, without any dependence on work with infected patients, had an absence of anxiety and depression. The identified interrelations between the symptoms of burnout, anxiety, depression; age and career stage in medical personnel were identical, except for weak correlations between age and emotional exhaustion (rs = -0.097, P ≤ 0.05), as well as career stage and personal accomplishment (rs = 0.102, P ≤ 0.05) in those physicians who worked with COVID-19 patients. The structure of burnout was identical in all physicians and did not depend on interaction with the infected patients.Conclusion: Public health authorities should reduce the workload on physicians involved in treating infected patients against the backdrop of the pandemic. Psychotherapeutic measures focused on preventing burnout should reduce its number among physicians interacting with patients infected with the coronavirus.

Abstract
Burnout, a reaction to chronic emotional stress, affects health and reduces the quality of service. Reportedly, healthcare professionals are especially vulnerable to burnout. This meta-analysis is aimed at examining the factors associated with occupational therapists' burnout. The results of 2,430 occupational therapists, across 17 peer-reviewed English articles, the most recent published in 2020, were analysed. Results revealed significant associations between related variables and burnout. Marital status, work field, and work hours, job challenges, patient age, position, turnover intention, working type, and work addiction showed significant positive correlation effect sizes in relation to burnout, whereas age, education, engagement, job satisfaction, personal identity, professional identity, rewards, and feeling valued showed significant negative correlation effect sizes. The results of this meta-analysis suggest that strategies to reduce occupational therapists' burnout need to consider organizational as well as psychological aspects.

Abstract
RESUMO Objetivo: Identificar os fatores associados ao burnout em profissionais de equipe multidisciplinar da área de oncologia. Método: Estudo quantitativo do tipo descritivo, com desenho observacional e transversal. Utilizou-se um questionário sociodemográfico, clínico e profissional elaborado pelos autores e três itens do Instrumento de Qualidade de Vida Profissional para coleta de dados. Para análise de dados, foram utilizados os testes de Kruskal-Wallis e Mann-Whitney. O nível de significância adotado foi de 5%. Resultados: Participaram do estudo 442 profissionais da equipe multidisciplinar. Os que apresentaram maiores fatores associados ao burnout foram aqueles que presenciaram maior número de óbitos, conflitos no seu ambiente de trabalho, trabalhavam no turno noturno, usavam fármacos enão praticavam a crença religiosa, entre outros. Conclusão: Embora os profissionais apresentassem média pontuação no domínio de burnout, muitas variáveis foram relacionadas aos fatores associados para burnout, identificando perigo iminente ao trabalhador e expondo pacientes e instituição. Faz-se necessário buscar estratégias para minimizar os riscos identificados.

Abstract
A comprehensive description of the factors associated with job satisfaction among occupational therapy practitioners is needed to promote their work well-being. This systematic review aimed to describe occupational therapy practitioners' job satisfaction and the related intra-, inter-, and extra-personal factors. Original peer-reviewed studies published between 2010 and 2019 were retrieved from four databases with the review including fourteen studies. The review was conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute guideline. The data were analyzed by narrative synthesis. Occupational therapy practitioners experienced high job satisfaction. Job satisfaction was found to be associated with significantly lower rates of turnover intention and higher rates of rewards. The relationships between job satisfaction, professional identity, exhaustion, and social environment showed conflicting results.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had a severe psychological impact on frontline and second-line medical workers. However, few empirical reports have been published on its impact on occupational therapists. Clarifying the mental health status of occupational therapists is important to maintain care quality and prevent psychological problems in this population. OBJECTIVE To investigate the psychological impact of COVID-19 on Japanese occupational therapists in prefectures with and without severe pandemic-related restrictions and elucidate factors associated with psychological problems such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia. DESIGN A cross-sectional online survey using region-stratified two-stage cluster sampling conducted May 28-31, 2020. PARTICIPANTS The sample included 371 participants (63.1% women) in the prefectures under specific cautions (i.e., where residents were strictly advised to refrain from outings) and 1,312 in the prefectures without such cautions (61.9% women). RESULTS The increase in workload due to the pandemic was significantly related to an increase in anxiety, depression, and insomnia, and an attempt to avoid talking face to face with others was significantly related to an increase in anxiety regardless of area. In prefectures under specific cautions as of May 25, 2020, the provision of sufficient information on COVID-19 by the workplace significantly reduced the risk of insomnia. In other prefectures, the provision of sufficient information significantly reduced the risk of depression. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE These results demonstrate the severe negative psychological impact of the increase in workload resulting from COVID-19 and suggest the importance of psychological support for occupational therapists, such as the provision of sufficient information by the workplace. What This Article Adds: This study highlights the importance of providing psychological support for occupational therapists worldwide.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although health care professionals' increased job demands and strain have generated much public debate in recent years, the way in which occupational therapists' job strain has developed remains unknown. OBJECTIVE To examine how Finnish occupational therapists working in municipalities experienced job demands and control in 2014-2018 compared with physiotherapists and registered nurses. MATERIAL AND METHODS Occupational therapists (OT, n = 107), physiotherapists (PT, n = 331) and registered nurses (RN, n = 1389) responded to repeated surveys in the Finnish Public Sector Study in 2014-2018. We used the Job Content Questionnaire and analyzed the data using repeated measures analysis of variance and multiple linear regression with generalized estimating equations to identify the trends and differences. RESULTS More OTs had lower job demands and higher job control than PTs and RNs in each year of study. These differences were statistically significant. Most OTs had low job strain. The changes in job control and job demands of participants in different years were not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS The OTs consistently experienced low job strain as compared to the PTs and RNs. Developing good practices in OT's work may be beneficial for improving employee health and well-being and high-quality client care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The health profession is a burnout producer due to the continuous contact with pain and suffering. In addition, excessive workloads can generate stress and psychological distress. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to determine the degree of burnout and its main triggers in health professionals in Spain at the most critical period of the COVID-19 emergency. METHOD A quantitative research was developed through a simple random sampling in different Spanish hospitals through the period of greatest impact of the pandemic (N = 157). Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire from Maslach burnout inventory (MBI) containing 22 items, which measures three subscales: emotional burnout, depersonalization, and self-fulfillment. RESULTS depersonalization values reached 38.9%. A total of 90.4% of the health professionals considered that psychological care should be provided from the work centers. Furthermore, 43.3% of the health professionals estimated that they might need psychological treatment in the future. Finally, 85.4% stated that the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) generated an increase in stress and anxiety. CONCLUSION This study demonstrates the need to consider specific mental health care services and training in crises to avoid possible psychological disorders. The information obtained is also valuable for the development of future prevention protocols and training of health personnel to face pandemics of these characteristics or emergency scenarios. Having the necessary physical means for their protection, as well to updated regular and accurate information, is essential to avoid feelings of fear and uncertainty. This would promote the health of these professionals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Occupational therapists with less than 10 years of work experience have been shown to be at higher risk of work-related stress. There is a need for further research on the level of job strain they perceive. AIMS To investigate the perceived level of job strain among Swedish occupational therapists with less than 10 years of work experience and differences between groups who have worked for 0-5 years and 6-10 years. MATERIAL AND METHODS In this cross-sectional study, a web-based survey was sent to 345 occupational therapists with less than 10 years of work experience, with 252 responding. Data was collected using the Swedish Demand-Control-Support Questionnaire and questions on job strain and sociodemographics. RESULTS The participants scored 19.68 points on the control scale and 20.01 points on the support scale, indicating high levels of control and support, and 13.33 points on the demand scale (high demand ≤ 14 points). Twelve percent worked in high strain jobs. Most (75%) worked in low strain and active jobs. CONCLUSIONS AND SIGNIFICANCE The participants reported low levels of job strain. However, to prevent mental health problems, employers need to identify those in active jobs to ensure that they have time to exercise control over their work situation.
