Abstract
PURPOSE To examine the relative importance of social cognitive predictors (ie, performance accomplishment, vicarious learning, verbal persuasion, affective state) on health promotion self-efficacy among older adults during COVID-19. DESIGN Cross-sectional. SETTING Data collected online from participants in British Columbia (BC), Canada. SUBJECTS Seventy-five adults (n = 75) aged ≥65 years. MEASURES Health promotion self-efficacy was measured using the Self-Rated Abilities for Health Practices Scale. Performance accomplishment was assessed using the health directed behavior subscale of the Health Education Impact Questionnaire; vicarious learning was measured using the positive social interaction subscale of the Medical Outcomes Survey - Social Support Scale (MOS-SSS); verbal persuasion was assessed using the informational support subscale from the MOS-SSS; and affective state was assessed using the depression subscale from the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21). ANALYSIS Multiple linear regression was used to investigate the relative importance of each social cognitive predictor on self-efficacy, after controlling for age. RESULTS Our analyses revealed statistically significant associations between self-efficacy and performance accomplishment (health-directed behavior; β = .20), verbal persuasion (informational support; β = .41), and affective state (depressive symptoms; β = -.44) at P < .05. Vicarious learning (β = -.15) did not significantly predict self-efficacy. The model was statistically significant (P < .001) explaining 43% of the self-efficacy variance. CONCLUSION Performance accomplishment experiences, verbal persuasion strategies, and affective states may be the target of interventions to modify health promotion self-efficacy among older adults, in environments that require physical and social distancing.

Abstract
Renal denervation (RDN) is a neuromodulation therapy performed using an intraarterial catheter in patients with hypertension. Recent randomized sham-operated controlled trials have shown that RDN has significant antihypertensive effects in patients with resistant, uncontrolled, and/or drug-naïve hypertension. Based on available evidence, the European Society of Hypertension 2023 guidelines include a Class II recommendation for the use of RDN in individuals with resistant and uncontrolled hypertension. The US Food and Drug Administration approved two devices, the ultrasound-based ReCor ParadiseTM RDN system and the radiofrequency-based Medtronic Symplicity SpyralTM RDN system, as adjunctive therapy for patients with resistant and uncontrolled hypertension. The indications for RDN and incorporation of RDN into clinical practice will grow as clinical evidence accumulates. This mini review summarizes latest findings focusing on the safety and effectiveness of RDN for treating hypertension in the absence and presence of antihypertensive drugs, and discusses the indications for RDN. This mini review focuses on the safety and effectiveness of RDN for treating hypertension in the absence and presence of antihypertensive drugs. The indications for RDN and incorporation of RDN into clinical practice will grow as clinical evidence accumulates and should be reviewed and updated.

Abstract
BACKGROUND COVID-19 and its prevention measures have had a significant impact on patients with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by disrupting routine healthcare service and increasing risk factors. These challenges were expected to be more severe in sub-Saharan Africa due to the lack of physical infrastructure and inadequate resources. The quantity of studies conducted was limited, and there was a lack of published systematic reviews in the specified region. This systematic review aimed to assess the indirect impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated lockdown measures on individuals with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in sub-Saharan African countries. METHOD This systematic review adheres to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines and is registered with PROSPERO (ID CRD42023387755). Extensive searches were conducted in MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CINAHL databases in December 2023, supplemented by a manual search of references, grey literature, and the WHO COVID-19 database. Inclusion criteria encompassed studies that reported on the impact of COVID-19 on NCD patients in sub-Saharan African countries, focusing on access to care, health outcomes, and factors related to NCDs. Critical appraisal of study quality was performed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) analytical cross-sectional studies critical appraisal tool. Data were extracted and synthesized, highlighting the main findings and relevant limitations. FINDINGS This review included 30 primary studies with a cumulative sample size of 25634 participants, conducted in seven sub-Saharan African countries. These studies demonstrated that the COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted regular NCD patient care provision, with regional variations. The studies also identified a reduction in patient health-seeking behavior and reduced medication adherence, leading to poor treatment outcome. Furthermore, the pandemic and related lockdowns have been implicated in the increased prevalence of substance use, decreased physical exercise, and increased mental health problems. CONCLUSION This systematic review identified the complex challenges faced by NCD patients in sub-Saharan Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also underlines the need to consider the indirect impact on vulnerable populations while developing pandemic prevention and control strategies for the future. The current NCD management strategies should prioritize the restoration of access to essential healthcare services while considering the multifaceted risks posed by decreased physical activity, poor dietary practices, and increased substance use. The main limitation of this review was the study design and setting. All of the studies included in this review employed a cross-sectional design, which may result in a low quality of evidence. This study identified research conducted in only seven countries among the 46 UN-classified sub-Saharan nations, which may impair the generalizability of the result.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Individuals with low socio-economic status (SES) have disproportionate rates of cardio- vascular disease (CVD) but poorer engagement with preventative health. This study aimed to compare characteristics of individuals with and without hyperlipidaemia and describe their health behaviours. METHODS A mixed-methods study between January and December 2022. Patients aged ≥40 years using the ambulance service with blood pressure of ≥140/90 had their total cholesterol measured using a point of care device. Data including blood pressure, smoking status, National Early Warning Score 2 and clinical frailty scale (CFS) were analysed. RESULTS Of 203 patients (59% female, mean age 65.7 years), 115 (56.7%) had total cholesterol ≥5.1 mmol/L. Thirty patients (14.8%) sought treatment and received either statins (n = 9; 4.4%), dietary modification (n = 7; 3.4%) or no further intervention (n = 14; 6.9%), whilst 85 patients (41.9%) took no further action. Lower CFS (OR 0.53 [0.31-0.93]) and higher total cholesterol (OR 2.07 [1.03-2.76]) predicted seeking further management. SES was not associated with hyperlipidaemia or likelihood of seeking further management, rather this was dictated by competing co-morbidity, poor health literacy and digital divide. CONCLUSIONS Undiagnosed hyperlipidaemia exists in patients using the ambulance service, irrespective of SES. Individual and healthcare system factors prevent engagement in cholesterol lowering behaviours.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The SPYRAL HTN-ON MED (Global Clinical Study of Renal Denervation With the Symplicity Spyral Multi-electrode Renal Denervation System in Patients With Uncontrolled Hypertension in the Absence of Antihypertensive Medications)trial showed significant office and nighttime systolic blood pressure (BP) reductions in patients with hypertension following renal denervation (RDN) compared with sham-control patients, despite similar 24-hour BP reductions. We compared antihypertensive medication and BP changes among prespecified subpopulations. METHODS The multicenter, randomized, sham-controlled, blinded SPYRAL HTN-ON MED trial (n=337) evaluated BP changes after RDN compared with a sham procedure in patients with hypertension prescribed 1 to 3 antihypertensive drugs. Most patients (n=187; 54%) were enrolled outside the United States, while 156 (46%) US patients were enrolled, including 60 (18%) Black Americans. RESULTS Changes in detected antihypertensive drugs were similar between RDN and sham group patients in the outside US cohort, while drug increases were significantly more common in the US sham group compared with the RDN group. Patients from outside the United States showed significant reductions in office and 24-hour mean systolic BP at 6 months compared with the sham group, whereas BP changes were similar between RDN and sham in the US cohort. Within the US patient cohort, Black Americans in the sham control group had significant increases in medication burden from baseline through 6 months (P=0.003) but not in the RDN group (P=0.44). CONCLUSIONS Patients enrolled outside the United States had minimal antihypertensive medication changes between treatment groups and had significant office and 24-hour BP reductions compared with the sham group. Increased antihypertensive drug burden in the US sham cohort, especially among Black Americans, may have diluted the treatment effect in the combined trial population. Abstract
BACKGROUND Catheter-based renal sympathetic denervation (RDN) reduced blood pressure (BP) in multiple randomized sham-controlled trials of patients with uncontrolled hypertension (HTN). We tested proof-of-concept for a more selective treatment strategy, exclusively targeting these areas to improve the efficiency of the procedure. METHODS The SPYRAL DYSTAL Pilot study was designed to mirror the SPYRAL HTN-OFF MED Pivotal study, enabling comparison with a propensity score adjusted active-control group. Patients were antihypertensive medication-free for one month before undergoing BP assessment. Those with office BP of 150-180/>90 mmHg and with an ambulatory systolic BP of 140-170 mmHg were selected to undergo open label treatment, delivering energy only to the distal main renal arteries and first order branches. Patients from DYSTAL were compared with patients who underwent maximized RF RDN treatment in the prior randomized OFF MED trial at 3 months. After 3 months, patients resumed antihypertensive medications as indicated. Safety and efficacy outcomes were assessed post hoc through 12 months. RESULTS The SPYRAL DYSTAL Pilot study treated 56 HTN patients. Baseline office systolic BP (OSBP) and 24-h ambulatory systolic BP (ASBP) were similar between DYSTAL and OFF MED patient groups. The number of ablations (32.3 ± 8.0 vs 46.6 ± 15.3, p < 0.001), procedure time (67 ± 21 min vs 99 ± 36 min; p < 0.001), and contrast volume (173 ± 77 cc vs 208 ± 96 cc; p = 0.014) were significantly lower with the simplified treatment strategy. OSBP and ASBP changes compared with baseline were -9.0 and -1.4 mmHg at 3 months, -20.3 and -13.9 mmHg at 6 months, and -20.3 and -16.6 mmHg at 12 months, respectively. During the medication up-titration phase, BP reductions among DYSTAL patients were similar to reductions observed in OFF MED through 12 months, with comparable number of drugs (1.4 and 1.5 medications, respectively (P=NS)). Two adverse events related to guidewire placement were reported. CONCLUSION In this pilot study, focusing ablation treatment on the distal main and proximal branch renal arteries was performed, resulting in fewer RF lesions, and reduced contrast volume and procedure time. Whether BP reductions are similar between a selective vs. maximized RDN approach requires further prospective study.

Abstract
Urban green spaces offer numerous benefits, and their role in supporting mental health, particularly during global crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, is of growing interest to researchers and policymakers. This study explored the relationship between urban green space visitation and mental health well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangkok, Thailand. This cross-sectional study, conducted in Bangkok during the COVID-19 lockdown, used a telephone survey of 579 respondents. A logistic regression model was employed to examine the association between urban green space visitation and the WHO-5 mental health well-being score, considering various factors such as socioeconomic variables, healthy behaviors, and COVID-19-related experiences. The findings revealed a significant association between urban green space visitation during the lockdown and higher mental health well-being. Socioeconomic variables and healthy behaviors of respondents were also notably linked to higher WHO-5 mental health well-being scores. These findings collectively indicate that urban greenspace visitation serves as a crucial determinant of mental health and well-being, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lifestyle behaviors which included physical activity, sedentariness, healthy eating habits, sleep habits, and tobacco use in persons with and without disabilities in Qatar. Methods This cross-sectional study used a structured, online questionnaire. The collected data included demographics, mental health, physical health, eating habits, body weight, sleep, and nicotine intake. This study was conducted between September 25, 2020, and December 31, 2020. Results Seventy respondents from Qatar participated in the study. Pre-pandemic healthy lifestyle behaviors (physical activity, healthy diet, sleep, etc.) showed no significant differences between people with and without disabilities. However, perceived changes in mental and physical health and eating habits during the pandemic lockdown differed between people with and without disabilities. People with disabilities reported worsening mental health (64.7%), physical health (53%), and dietary habits compared to the pre-pandemic levels. Furthermore, the more severe the disability, the more significant is its impact on mental and physical health. Conclusion This study indicated that the pandemic has had a significant impact on the mental and physical health of people with and without disabilities in Qatar. These findings reveal how closely individuals with disabilities and their lifestyle choices are related to their mental and physical well-being. This will enable the development of specific interventions for similar situations in the future.

BACKGROUND Renal denervation (RDN) reduces blood pressure (BP) in patients with uncontrolled hypertension in the absence of antihypertensive medications. OBJECTIVES This trial assessed the safety and efficacy of RDN in the presence of antihypertensive medications. METHODS SPYRAL HTN-ON MED is a prospective, randomized, sham-controlled, patient- and assessor-blinded trial enrolling patients from 56 clinical centers worldwide. Patients were prescribed 1 to 3 antihypertensive medications. Patients were randomized to radiofrequency RDN or sham control procedure. The primary efficacy endpoint was the baseline-adjusted change in mean 24-hour ambulatory systolic BP at 6 months between groups using a Bayesian trial design and analysis. RESULTS The treatment difference in the mean 24-hour ambulatory systolic BP from baseline to 6 months between the RDN group (n = 206; -6.5 ± 10.7 mm Hg) and sham control group (n = 131; -4.5 ± 10.3 mm Hg) was -1.9 mm Hg (95% CI: -4.4 to 0.5 mm Hg; P = 0.12). There was no significant difference between groups in the primary efficacy analysis with a posterior probability of superiority of 0.51 (Bayesian treatment difference: -0.03 mm Hg [95% CI: -2.82 to 2.77 mm Hg]). However, there were changes and increases in medication intensity among sham control patients. RDN was associated with a reduction in office systolic BP compared with sham control at 6 months (adjusted treatment difference: -4.9 mm Hg; P = 0.0015). Night-time BP reductions and win ratio analysis also favored RDN. There was 1 adverse safety event among 253 assessed patients. CONCLUSIONS There was no significant difference between groups in the primary analysis. However, multiple secondary endpoint analyses favored RDN over sham control. Abstract
Patients with kidney disease, especially those with kidney failure, are particularly susceptible to the adverse effects of disasters because their survival depends on functional infrastructure, advanced technology, the availability of specific drugs and well-trained medical personnel. The risk of poor outcomes across the entire spectrum of patients with kidney diseases (acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease and kidney failure on dialysis or with a functioning transplant) increases as a result of disaster-related logistical challenges. Patients who are displaced face even more complex problems owing to additional threats that arise during travel and after reaching their new location. Overall, risks may be mitigated by pre-disaster preparedness and training. Emergency kidney disaster responses depend on the type and severity of the disaster and include medical and/or surgical treatment of injuries, treatment of mental health conditions, appropriate diet and logistical interventions. After a disaster, patients should be evaluated for problems that were not detected during the event, including those that may have developed as a result of the disaster. A retrospective review of the disaster response is vital to prevent future mistakes. Important ethical concerns include fair distribution of limited resources and limiting harm. Patients with kidney disease, their care-givers, health-care providers and authorities should be trained to respond to the medical and logistical problems that occur during disasters to improve outcomes.

Abstract
In the last decade, we have seen a substantial increase in the development and use of mobile technology to improve diet and healthy eating behaviors. OBJECTIVE To describe the characteristics of nutrition and diet apps before and after the COVID-19 pandemic available in Brazil. METHODS Nutrition and diet apps were identified using the official Apple and Google stores. The search occurred in January 2020 and May 2022 in Brazil. We extracted the nutritional content and standard indicators (e.g., being developed before or after 2020, number of languages, target population, investment, prices, seller, number of reviews and downloads, consumer rating). RESULTS 280 apps were launched before and 411 during the COVID-19 period. Most apps were available in at least ten languages (96.6%), with no indication of age (95.6%) or partial or full cost (59%). As for the contents, 18.9% addressed personal diet suggestions; 73.4%, nutritional education; 48.8%, revenues; 35.9%, physical activity with a nutritional guide; 2.3%, nutritional recommendation for eating out; 23.9%, grocery shopping with a scan code; 32.4%, food diary; 18.9%, water intake; and 4.6%, nutrition/diseases. The data show an evolution that may have been boosted by the pandemic and that reveals a trend towards the development of apps with educational content. CONCLUSION During the pandemic, there was a positive qualitative and quantitative movement in e-health regarding the promotion of education.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Hypertension and diabetes were the two pertinent comorbidities of non-communicable disease which was most deadly affected during the COVID-19 pandemic, globally. Therefore, the present study was carried out to assess the progression of risk factors in patients with hypertension and diabetes, and behavioural risk factors during the COVID-19 pandemic. MATERIAL AND METHODS A community-based longitudinal study was carried out for a period of one year in patients with pre-existing hypertension and diabetes in the field practise area of urban primary health centres (UPHC) in Rishikesh. The sample size is estimated to be 274, Only 100 study participants could be enrolled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A convenience sampling method was used. Data were analysed using SPSS Version 23 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY). Mean ± SD was calculated for continuous variables. The Chi-square test and the Fischer exact test were employed as appropriate to examine the association. To compare the means, the paired "T-test" was utilised. RESULT Mean age of 100 study participants was 56 years ± 11SD. A significant difference (p=0.03) in random blood sugar and diastolic blood pressure was observed before and during the pandemic Proportion of tobacco users and alcoholics was 33% and 22%, respectively. The progression of hypertension and diabetes was reported to be significant among the participants with unhealthy diets and unhealthy lifestyles. CONCLUSION COVID-19 pandemic poses an increase in risk factors like the adoption of unhealthy and sedentary lifestyles, tobacco, and alcohol consumption. All these factors were significantly (p=0.02) associated with the progression of diabetes and hypertension.

Abstract
A growing number of various studies focusing on different aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic are emerging as the pandemic continues. Three variables that are most commonly used to describe the course of the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide are the number of confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths, and the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered. In this paper, using the multiscale geographically weighted regression, an analysis of the interrelationships between the number of confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths, and the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered were conducted. Furthermore, using maps of the local R2 estimates, it was possible to visualize how the relations between the explanatory variables and the dependent variables vary across the study area. Thus, analysis of the influence of demographic factors described by the age structure and gender breakdown of the population over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic was performed. This allowed the identification of local anomalies in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. Analyses were carried out for the area of Poland. The results obtained may be useful for local authorities in developing strategies to further counter the pandemic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND On March 24, 2020, the Mexican Government established social distancing measures to address the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The resulting home confinement affected daily lifestyle habits such as eating, sleeping, and physical activity (PA). The objectives of this study were to determine changes in PA behaviors among Mexican women due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to assess potential factors associated with these changes. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study based on an anonymous online questionnaire developed by the Task Force on Physical Activity for Persons with Disabilities (PAPD) within the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM). Descriptive, quantitative statistics were used for data analysis. A Chi-squared (χ²) test was used to explore associations between dependent and independent variables. RESULTS A total of 1882 surveys were completed. Among the respondents, 53.3% declared that their PA was reduced during the pandemic, 26.6% reported similar PA behavior, and 20.1% declared that their PA had increased during the pandemic. Lower PA behavior during the pandemic was associated with lower education levels, stricter pandemic constraints, obesity, and lower self-perceived functioning levels. A statistically significant association between poorer self-perceived mental health and decreased PA behaviors was also found. Respondents who were younger, self-perceived as unimpaired, not overweight, and whose income was not impacted by COVID-19 were associated with higher levels of reported physical and mental health. CONCLUSIONS The study results identify disparities experienced in PA behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic among Mexican women and highlights the need for social support for PA participation.

Abstract
Wearable devices are increasingly popular in clinical and non-clinical populations as a tool for exercise prescription, monitoring of daily physical activity and nutrition, and health-related parameters management. In this regard, smart devices not only assist people in pursuing a healthier lifestyle, but also provide a constant stream of physiological and metabolic data for management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Although the benefits of lifestyle-based interventions (exercise and nutrition) for NCDs are well known, the potential of wearable devices to promote healthy behaviors in clinical populations is still controversial. In this narrative review, we aimed to discuss the current application of wearable devices in NCDs, highlighting their role in prescribing and monitoring daily physical activity and dietary habits in the population living with chronic diseases. None of the studies considered specifically addressed the efficacy of the use of wearable devices, and limited are those that incorporate monitoring of both physical activity and nutrition for NCDs. However, there is evidence that such devices have helped improve physical activity levels, physical fitness, body composition, and metabolic and psychological parameters. Therefore, the authors believe that the benefits obtained from the use of wearable devices are likely to translate to public health and represent one of the important tools for the development of prevention plans in everyday life and clinical practice for optimal patient management.

Abstract
(1) Background: Body mass index (BMI) was observed to affect COVID-19 outcomes; however, the complete spectrum of clinical outcomes concerning BMI remains unexplored. The current study aimed to investigate the correlation between BMI and the severity and mortality of COVID-19, as well as ICU admission, radiological findings, clinical presentation, and time to viral clearance. (2) Methods: This retrospective study included 1796 multiethnic patients with COVID-19 treated at NMC Royal Hospital, Abu Dhabi, UAE. (3) Results: COVID-19’s adjusted odds of severity increased by 3.7- and 21.5-fold in classes I and III, respectively (p = 0.001). The odds of mortality were not significantly different after adjustment for age, sex, and race. The adjusted odds of ICU admission increased significantly by 3-fold and non-significantly by 4-fold in obesity classes I and II, respectively. Pneumonia was significantly higher in patients who were overweight and class I, II, and III obese. Furthermore, class III obese patients had a greater risk of presenting with combined respiratory and gastrointestinal manifestations (p < 0.001). The median time to viral clearance with a BMI > 40 kg/m2 was moderately higher than that with a BMI < 40 kg/m2. (4) Conclusions: High BMI was associated with pneumonia, ICU admission, severity, and mortality due to COVID-19.

Abstract
During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, many countries imposed restrictions and quarantines on the population, which led to a decrease in people's physical activity (PA) and severely damaged their mental health. As a result, people engaged in fitness activities with the help of fitness apps, which improved their resistance to the virus and reduced the occurrence of psychological problems, such as anxiety and depression. However, the churn rate of fitness apps is high. As such, our purpose in this study was to analyze the factors that influence the use of fitness apps by adults aged 18-65 years in the context of COVID-19, with the aim of contributing to the analysis of mobile fitness user behavior and related product design practices. We constructed a decision target program model using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and we analyzed and inductively screened 11 evaluation indicators, which we combined with an indicator design questionnaire. We distributed 420 questionnaires; of the respondents, 347 knew about or used fitness apps. Among these 347, we recovered 310 valid questionnaires after removing invalid questionnaires with a short completion time, for an effective questionnaire recovery rate of 89.33%. We used the AHP and entropy method to calculate and evaluate the weight coefficient of each influencing factor and to determine an influencing factor index. Our conclusions were as follows: first, the effect of perceived usefulness on the use of fitness apps by the study groups was the most notable. Second, personal motivation and perceived ease of use considerably influenced the adult group's willingness to use fitness apps. Finally, the perceived cost had relatively little effect on the use of fitness apps by adults, and the study group was much more concerned with the privacy cost than the expense cost.

Abstract
Healthy lifestyle is the major indicator of individual and public health especially in target populations (e.g., during emerging adulthood). Evidence indicates that unhealthy lifestyle behaviors are strongly associated with the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases. The dual approach of sustainable health (i.e., physical exercise tied to a healthy diet) is an effective lifestyle strategy to control and manage health-related disorders, including overweight/obesity. Based on the evidence on plant-based diets regarding health and considering the growing prevalence of vegans and vegetarians worldwide, limited data exist on the health-related behaviors of those who follow plant-based vs. mixed diets in young adulthood. This multidisciplinary study is the first to examine the association between diet type (mixed, vegetarian, and vegan diets) and various health-related behaviors (primarily physical activity, sport, & exercise) among college/university students and lecturers/academic staff in Austria nationwide. Following a cross-sectional study design and using online questionnaires, 4510 tertiary students and 1043 lecturers/academic staff provided data on sociodemographic characteristics, dietary patterns, physical exercise habits, and other lifestyle behaviors (sleep, alcohol intake, smoking, etc.) along with information on health status and quality of life. While the data will be analyzed based on differentiated sociodemographic and health-related categories, the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on lifestyle behaviors will also be evaluated. As a study protocol, this article represents comprehensive details of the design, purposes, and associated analytical measures of the present study within the tertiary educational context.

Abstract
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, an increasing number of different research studies focusing on various aspects of the pandemic are emerging. Most of the studies focus on the medical aspects of the pandemic, as well as on the impact of COVID-19 on various areas of life; less emphasis is put on analyzing the influence of socio-environmental factors on the spread of the pandemic. In this paper, using the geographically weighted regression method, the extent to which demographic, social, and environmental factors explain the number of cases of SARS-CoV-2 is explored. The research was performed for the case-study area of Poland, considering the administrative division of the country into counties. The results showed that the demographic factors best explained the number of cases of SARS-CoV-2; the social factors explained it to a medium degree; and the environmental factors explained it to the lowest degree. Urban population and the associated higher amount and intensity of human contact are the most influential factors in the development of the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis of the factors related to the areas burdened by social problems resulting primarily from the economic exclusion revealed that poverty-burdened areas are highly vulnerable to the development of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using maps of the local R2 it was possible to visualize how the relationships between the explanatory variables (for this research-demographic, social, and environmental factors) and the dependent variable (number of cases of SARS-CoV-2) vary across the study area. Through the GWR method, counties were identified as particularly vulnerable to the pandemic because of the problem of economic exclusion. Considering that the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing, the results obtained may be useful for local authorities in developing strategies to counter the pandemic.
