Abstract
Centenarians are of particular importance to aging research as they represent the living architype of exceptional longevity and as such studying their attributes is expected to contribute to one's understanding of survivorship. While much centenarian research to date recognizes the biological and genetic determinants in achieving advanced age, there is a lack of understanding regarding the influence of social factors and their role in aging. As centenarian populations continue to grow at an unprecedented rate, the heterogeneity among centenarian cohorts together with current aging trends highlights the intrinsic need to better understand centenarian aging from a biopsychosocial perspective. A key challenge for research concerning centenarians is understanding their personal experiences of reaching this momentous age as such information could help to identify the sociodemographic and psychosocial factors that enable people to live such extraordinarily long lives. To address this, this study focused on the lived experience of Irish centenarians and explored their understanding of their aging in a rapidly modernized sociocultural Ireland. Documenting the psychosocial profiles of centenarians will assist key stakeholders including researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in the development of policies and strategies to support the growing population of older adults in Ireland. Furthermore, this research will also map Irish centenarians who have not previously been explored onto the international nexus of centenarian research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the increase in life expectancy in the world, active aging has become an important issue. This study aims to investigate the relationship between healthy lifestyle behaviors and active aging in the elderly. METHODS This study, which used a descriptive and correlational survey model, was conducted with the participation of 145 individuals aged 65 years and over enrolled in the University Hospital in a city center in Türkiye. Research data were collected with the Patient Information Form, Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale-II (HLBS-II), and Active Aging Scale (AAS). Descriptive statistics, Shapiro Wilk test, Student t-test, ANOVA, Tukey test, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data. RESULTS A statistically significant positive correlation was found between the individuals' HLBS-II and the total score of AAS, at a normal level (r = 0.569). The participating elderlies' Active Aging Scale total mean score was 132.01 ± 27.13, and the Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale-II total mean score was 154.96 ± 18.18. A significant negative correlation was found between age and the total score of the Active Aging Scale. CONCLUSIONS It was determined that healthy lifestyle behaviors contributed positively to the active aging of elderlies. Active aging is negatively affected with increasing age. For the elderly to have an active aging process, it is recommended to strengthen physical activity, nutrition, methods of coping with stress, and spiritual development as much as possible, and to organize applied training programs to protect and improve the health of the elderly and to increase their awareness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intrinsic capacity (IC) is proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to promote healthy aging. Although some studies have examined the factors influencing IC, few studies have comprehensively confirmed lifestyle factors on IC, especially IC impairment patterns. The present study aimed to identify the patterns of IC impairment and explore the lifestyle and other factors associated with different patterns of IC impairment. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted in a Chinese geriatric hospital. IC was evaluated in five domains according to the recommendations of WHO: cognition, locomotion, vitality, sensory and psychological domains. The sociodemographic and health-related characteristics of participants were assessed.The health promoting lifestyle was evaluated using the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile-II scale, including nutrition, health responsibility, interpersonal relationships, physical activity, spiritual growth and stress management. We applied latent class analysis to identify IC impairment patterns and compared basic activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, frailty, quality of life and falls among different IC impairment patterns. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify factors influencing the IC impairment patterns. RESULTS Among 237 participants included, the latent class analysis identified three patterns of IC impairment: 44.7% high IC (Class 1), 31.2% intermediate IC mainly locomotor impairment (Class 2) and 24.1% low IC mainly cognitive impairment (Class 3). Older adults in class 1 had the best function ability and quality of life, while class 3 had the highest levels of disability and frailty, the poorest quality of life and a higher prevalence of falls. Compared with class 1, older adults with advanced age (OR = 22.046, 95%CI:1.735-280.149), osteoporosis (OR = 3.377, 95%CI:1.161-9.825), and lower scores in physical activity (OR = 0.842, 95%CI:0.749-0.945), stress management (OR = 0.762, 95%CI:0.585-0.993) and social support (OR = 0.897, 95%CI:0.833-0.965) were more likely to belong to the class 2. Simultaneously, compared with class 1, older adults with advanced age (OR = 104.435, 95%CI:6.038-1806.410), stroke (OR = 3.877, 95%CI:1.172-12.823) and lower scores in physical activity (OR = 0.784, 95%CI:0.667-0.922) and social support (OR = 0.909, 95%CI:0.828-0.998) were more likely to be class 3. In addition, compared with class 2, older adults with a lower score in nutrition (OR = 0.764, 95%CI:0.615-0.950) were more likely to belong to the class 3. CONCLUSIONS This study provides evidence that there are heterogeneous IC impairment patterns in older adults and identifies various associated factors in each pattern, including age, stroke, osteoporosis, social support and lifestyle behaviors such as nutrition, physical activity and stress management. It informs stakeholders on which modifiable factors should be targeted through public health policy or early intervention to promote IC and healthy aging in older adults.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Physical activity (PA) improves health outcomes for people with type II diabetes mellitus (diabetes), but little is known about PA among Dominicans. The purpose was to evaluate PA participation and perceptions among people with diabetes in the Dominican Republic (DR). METHODS Participants (N=29) were recruited from an urban diabetes clinic in DR. PA was assessed via accelerometry and Godin Leisure Time Exercise Questionnaire (GLTEQ). RESULTS Eighteen women and 11 men enrolled (age: 55 ± 13 years; BMI: 28.6 ± 4.5 kg·m-2). Twenty-seven participants reached acceptable wear time. Using a one-minute bout minimum, moderate- to vigorous-intensity PA (MVPA) was 152.2 ± 59.7 min·day-1; no vigorous PA was recorded. GLTEQ scores (103 ± 98) classified 25 participants as active. Around 93% reported that PA was "very important" for their health. There was no association between GLTEQ and MVPA (p>0.2). Participants who reported being "very active" (n=17) did more MVPA than those who were "rarely active" or "somewhat active" (n=10; p=0.02). CONCLUSION Dominicans with diabetes are highly physically active but do very little vigorous PA. The GLTEQ was not an accurate measure of PA. Future research should develop validated questionnaires and evaluate structured exercise and dietary interventions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To identify factors associated with poor health literacy in older adults. METHODS A systematic literature review was conducted, employing the descriptors "Aged" and "Health Literacy". PROSPERO - CRD 42022350140. RESULTS Out of 23,500 articles screened, 176 were selected. Several factors associated with poor health literacy in older adults were identified, such as sociodemographic (e.g., advanced age, low educational level, non-white population, and others), social (e.g., poor family/social support, loneliness, social isolation, few social activities, and others), economic (e.g., lower income and/or lower socioeconomic status) and health aspects (e.g., poor health, chronic conditions, mental health challenges, hospitalizations, frailty, physical inactivity, cognitive impairment, and others). CONCLUSIONS The factors associated with poor health literacy in older adults identified in this review could contribute to future research, support interventions to improve health literacy, and assist professionals in planning educational activities and public policies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Understanding health and developing trends among the older population is essential for countries to tackle the challenges of an ageing population and formulate relevant policies. Facilitating healthy ageing is an essential strategy to address the issues arising among the aged. The concept of healthy ageing is defined as "the process of developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables wellbeing in old age (WHO)," where "functional ability comprises the health-related attributes that enable people to be and to do what they have reason to value." People have different ageing pathways depending on their genetic profile and different life course health risk exposures. Therefore, ageing, more specifically healthy ageing, largely depends on individual lifestyle choices. This study examines the association between lifestyle behaviours and healthy ageing among older adults in India. METHODS Based on the first round of LASI in 2017-18, we conceptualized healthy ageing within the WHO functional ability framework. We developed a Healthy Ageing Index (HAI), which incorporates physiological health, functional health, cognitive functions, psychological well-being, and social engagement. We used principal component analysis to generate a composite score for HAI. We then used multiple linear regression to demonstrate the association between lifestyle behaviours and HAI. RESULT The mean HAI was 82.8%, indicating that the study population is healthier. The study findings show that smoking and drinking are more prevalent among males, rural residents, illiterate individuals, those currently employed, and those belonging to the poorest wealth quintile. Engaging in physical activity is associated with better health outcomes (β = 2.36; 95% CI: 2.16-2.56). CONCLUSION This study emphasizes the importance of adopting a healthier lifestyle to achieve healthy ageing. Health behaviours are modifiable, so our results highlight the need for policy interventions to promote a healthier lifestyle from an early age.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is known that fear of COVID-19 is associated with many lifestyle behaviours including delays in access to healthcare services and smoking status. However, the relationship between healthy lifestyle behaviours and fear of COVID-19 in older individuals remains unclear. Therefore, there is a need for research that examines the relationship between healthy lifestyle behaviours and fear of COVID-19 in elderly individuals. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the COVID-19 fear levels of elderly individuals and their healthy lifestyle behaviours. METHODS This cross-sectional study was carried out with individuals at or over the age of 65 registered at a public health centre located in eastern Turkey (N = 494). Data collection tools included a form for descriptive variables and two scales, the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19 S) and the Healthy Lifestyle Behaviours Scale-II (HLSBS-II). Descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-test, ANOVA, correlation analyses, and hierarchical linear regression analyses were used in the analysis of the data. RESULTS The mean HLSBS-II and FCV-19 S scores of the participants were 127.61 ± 24.76 and 20.96 ± 7.29, respectively. While fear of COVID-19 alone, as indicated by the FCV-19 S score, explained 2.4% of the total variance in healthy lifestyle behaviours, fear of COVID-19, having a university degree, and high economic status together explained 7.5% of the total variance in healthy lifestyle behaviours indicated by scores on the HLSBS-II. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study showed that fear of COVID-19 and healthy lifestyle behaviours were dynamics that are positively related, albeit to a small extent, to each other for elderly individuals. Additionally, it was revealed that elderly individuals have moderate levels of fear of COVID-19 and healthy lifestyle behaviours.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Predicting healthy physiological aging is of major interest within public health research. However, longitudinal studies into predictors of healthy physiological aging that include numerous exposures from different domains (i.e. the exposome) are scarce. Our aim is to identify the most important exposome-related predictors of healthy physiological aging over the life course and across generations. METHODS Data were used from 2815 participants from four generations (generation 1960s/1950s/1940s/1930s aged respectively 20-29/30-39/40-49/50-59 years old at baseline, wave 1) of the Doetinchem Cohort Study who were measured every 5 years for 30 years. The Healthy Aging Index, a physiological aging index consisting of blood pressure, glucose, creatinine, lung function, and cognitive functioning, was measured at age 46-85 years (wave 6). The average exposure and trend of exposure over time of demographic, lifestyle, environmental, and biological exposures were included, resulting in 86 exposures. Random forest was used to identify important predictors. RESULTS The most important predictors of healthy physiological aging were overweight-related (BMI, waist circumference, waist/hip ratio) and cholesterol-related (using cholesterol lowering medication, HDL and total cholesterol) measures. Diet and educational level also ranked in the top of important exposures. No substantial differences were observed in the predictors of healthy physiological aging across generations. The final prediction model's performance was modest with an R2 of 17%. CONCLUSIONS Taken together, our findings suggest that longitudinal cardiometabolic exposures (i.e. overweight- and cholesterol-related measures) are most important in predicting healthy physiological aging. This finding was similar across generations. More work is needed to confirm our findings in other study populations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In view of age-related health concerns and resource vulnerabilities challenging older adults to age in place, upstream health resource interventions can inform older adults about the availability, accessibility, and utility of resources and equip them with better coping behaviours to maintain health and independence. This paper described the development process and evaluated the feasibility of an upstream health resource intervention, titled Salutogenic Healthy Ageing Programme Embracement (SHAPE), for older adults living alone or with spouses only. METHODS A pilot randomised controlled trial design was adopted. SHAPE was designed to equip older adults with resource information and personal conviction to cope with stressors of healthy aging. This 12-week intervention comprised 12 weekly structured group sessions, at least two individual home visits and a resource book. Both the intervention and control groups received usual care provided in the community. Feasibility of SHAPE intervention was evaluated using recruitment rate, intervention adherence, data collection completion rate, satisfaction survey and post-intervention interview. Outcome measures (sense of coherence, health-promoting lifestyle behaviours, quality of life, self-efficacy, and self-rated health) were assessed at baseline and post-intervention. Paired t-tests were used to examine within-group changes in outcome measures. Content analysis was used to analysed qualitative data. RESULTS Thirty-four participants were recruited and randomised. While recruitment rate was low (8.9%), intervention adherence (93.75%) and data collection completion (100%) were high. Participants expressed high satisfaction towards SHAPE intervention and found it useful. Participants experienced mindset growth towards personal and ageing experiences, and they were more proactive in adopting healthful behaviours. Although the programme was tailored according to needs of older adults, it required refinement. Intention-to-treat analysis showed significant increase in overall health-promoting lifestyle behaviours, health responsibility, physical activity, spiritual growth, and stress management among intervention participants. However, they reported a significant drop in autonomy post-intervention. CONCLUSION Findings of this pilot trial suggested that with protocol modifications, SHAPE can be a feasible and beneficial health resource intervention for older adults. Modifications on recruitment strategies, eligibility criteria, selection of outcome measures, training of resource facilitators and strong collaboration bonds with community partners would be needed to increase feasibility robustness and scientific rigor of this complex intervention. TRIAL REGISTRATION This study has been registered with clinicaltrials.gov on 10/05/2017. The trial registration number is NCT03147625.

Abstract
Background Happiness is one variable of subjective well-being, which has been increasingly shown to have protective effects on health. Although the association between happiness and cognition has been established, the mechanism by which happiness leads to cognition remains unclear. Since happiness, depression, and physical activity may all be related to cognition, and happiness is related to depression and physical activity, this study explored the effect of depression and physical activity on the relationship between happiness and cognition among middle and old-aged individuals in China. Methods Data on 14,344 participants above 45 years of age were obtained from the 2018 China Family Panel Studies survey. A multiple linear regression analysis was performed to identify the correlation factors of cognition. The conditional process analysis was used to assess the mediatory effect of depression and physical activity on the relationship between happiness and cognition. Results Residence, age, sex, income level, social status, smoking, napping, reading, education, exercise times, satisfaction, happiness, and depression had associations with cognition. When other variables were held constant, cognition score increased by 0.029 standard deviation(SD) for every 1 SD increased in happiness. Mediation analysis showed that happiness had a significant positive total effect on cognition. The direct effect of happiness was significant and accounted for 57.86% of the total effect. The mediatory effect of depression (path of happiness→depression→cognition) accounted for 38.31% of the total effect, whereas that of physical activity (path of happiness→exercise times→cognition) accounted for 3.02% of the total effect. Conclusion Happiness has a positive correlation with cognitive function, and depression and physical activity play mediatory roles in this association. Effective interventions to improve happiness levels of middle and old-aged population will not only improve their subjective well-being but also improve their cognitive function, which carries great potential for reducing public health burdens related to cognitive aging.

Abstract
Population of older people in many countries is constantly growing, therefore the subject of successful aging has become important and a priority for public health policy-makers. A person who is successfully aging has low risk of chronic disease and disability, high physical function, good mental health and social engagement in older age. Lifestyle factors, such as diet and exercise, have been identified as determinants of successful aging. The aim of this narrative review is to compile the evidence from big cohort studies on the overall health of older people. Their results indicate that regular physical activity increases the chances of successful aging in older people, but only after reaching a sufficient threshold. Physical activity lowers the risk of many chronic diseases and cognitive decline commonly associated with older age, promotes social engagement and improves self-estimated well-being.

Abstract
The aim of the study is to determine the association between Behavioral Lifestyles (regular physical activity, healthy diet, sleeping, and weight control) and longevity in the elderly. A search strategy was conducted in the PsycInfo, Medline, PubMed, Web of Science (WoS), and Scopus databases. The primary outcome was mortality/survival. Four variables (mean of participant's age at the baseline of the study, follow-up years of the study, gender, and year of publication) were analyzed to evaluate the role of potential moderators. Ninety-three articles, totaling more than 2,800,000 people, were included in the meta-analysis. We found that the lifestyles analyzed predict greater survival. Specifically, doing regular physical activity, engaging in leisure activities, sleeping 7-8 h a day, and staying outside the BMI ranges considered as underweight or obesity are habits that each separately has a greater probability associated with survival after a period of several years.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of the study was to examine the relations of individual lifestyle factors and its composite score with healthy ageing among Chinese adults. METHOD We included 14 159 participants aged 45-74 years at baseline from the Singapore Chinese Health Study, a population-based prospective cohort. A protective lifestyle score (0-5 scale) was calculated at baseline (1993-1998) and updated at the second follow-up visit (2006-2010) on the basis of optimal body mass index (18.5-22.9 kg/m2), healthy diet (upper 40% of the Alternative Healthy Eating Index score), being physically active (≥2 h/wk of moderate activity or ≥0.5 h/wk of strenuous activity), nonsmoking (never smoking), and low-to-moderate alcohol drinking (>0 to ≤14 drinks/wk for men and >0 to ≤7 drinks/wk for women). Healthy ageing was assessed at the third follow-up visit (2014-2016) and was defined as absence of specific chronic diseases, absence of cognitive impairment and limitations in instrumental activities of daily living, good mental and overall self-perceived health, good physical functioning, and no function-limiting pain. RESULTS About 20.0% (2834) of the participants met the criteria of healthy ageing after a median follow-up of 20 years. Each 1-point increase in the protective lifestyle score computed at baseline and second follow-up visits was associated with higher likelihood of healthy ageing by 25% (95% CI: 20%-30%) and 24% (18%-29%), respectively. The population-attributable risk percent of adherence to 4-5 protective lifestyle factors was 34.3% (95% CI: 25.3%-42.3%) at baseline and 31.3% (23.0%-38.7%) at second follow-up visits for healthy ageing. In addition, positive increase in lifestyle scores from baseline to second follow-up visits was also significantly associated with a higher likelihood of healthy ageing with an odds ratio of 1.18 (95% CI: 1.12%-1.24%) for each increment in protective lifestyle score. CONCLUSIONS Our findings confirmed that adopting healthy lifestyle factors, even after midlife, was associated with healthy ageing at old age.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Research efforts to measure the concept of healthy ageing have been diverse and limited to specific populations. This diversity limits the potential to compare healthy ageing across countries and/or populations. In this study, we developed a novel measurement scale of healthy ageing using worldwide cohorts. METHODS In the Ageing Trajectories of Health-Longitudinal Opportunities and Synergies (ATHLOS) project, data from 16 international cohorts were harmonized. Using ATHLOS data, an item response theory (IRT) model was used to develop a scale with 41 items related to health and functioning. Measurement heterogeneity due to intra-dataset specificities was detected, applying differential item functioning via a logistic regression framework. The model accounted for specificities in model parameters by introducing cohort-specific parameters that rescaled scores to the main scale, using an equating procedure. Final scores were estimated for all individuals and converted to T-scores with a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10. RESULTS A common scale was created for 343 915 individuals above 18 years of age from 16 studies. The scale showed solid evidence of concurrent validity regarding various sociodemographic, life and health factors, and convergent validity with healthy life expectancy (r = 0.81) and gross domestic product (r = 0.58). Survival curves showed that the scale could also be predictive of mortality. CONCLUSIONS The ATHLOS scale, due to its reliability and global representativeness, has the potential to contribute to worldwide research on healthy ageing.

Abstract
Background: Physical inactivity during the COVID-19 pandemic is a public health concern for older adults. Telehealth presents a safe platform for conducting health-related interventions that may have additional benefits such as widespread reach. Our pilot study sought to examine how a telehealth intervention changed activity profiles in older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: There were n = 13 adults aged 70.6 ± 4.5 years that participated in a 6 week telehealth intervention during the COVID-19 pandemic. The didactic intervention contents were shared online, and participants worked with trained interviewers over the telephone to discuss physical activity. At baseline and post-intervention, the Multimedia Activity Recall for Children and Adults examined activity profiles, while accelerometry estimated time spent sedentary and in physical activity. Results: Relative to the baseline measures, there was an 88 min/day (95% confidence interval (CI): 39, 137) increase in computer time and 36 min/day (CI: 10, 62) reduction in time spent in active transport at post-intervention. Moderate-to-vigorous physical activity participation also increased by an estimated 2 min/day (CI: −21, 26) and 12 min/week (CI: −154, 180), but this trend was not statistically significant. Conclusion: We recommend that support be provided to older adults transitioning to telehealth, especially as migration to telehealth progresses.

Abstract
Sleep maintains the function of the entire body through homeostasis. Chronic sleep deprivation (CSD) is a prime health concern in the modern world. Previous reports have shown that CSD has profound negative effects on brain vasculature at both the cellular and molecular levels, and that this is a major cause of cognitive dysfunction and early vascular ageing. However, correlations among sleep deprivation (SD), brain vascular changes and ageing have barely been looked into. This review attempts to correlate the alterations in the levels of major neurotransmitters (acetylcholine, adrenaline, GABA and glutamate) and signalling molecules (Sirt1, PGC1α, FOXO, P66shc, PARP1) in SD and changes in brain vasculature, cognitive dysfunction and early ageing. It also aims to connect SD-induced loss in the number of dendritic spines and their effects on alterations in synaptic plasticity, cognitive disabilities and early vascular ageing based on data available in scientific literature. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first article providing a pathophysiological basis to link SD to brain vascular ageing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Research has suggested the positive impact of physical activity on health and wellbeing in older age, yet few studies have investigated the associations between physical activity and heterogeneous trajectories of healthy ageing. We aimed to identify how physical activity can influence healthy ageing trajectories using a harmonised dataset of eight ageing cohorts across the world. METHODS Based on a harmonised dataset of eight ageing cohorts in Australia, USA, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, and Europe, comprising 130,521 older adults (Mage = 62.81, SDage = 10.06) followed-up up to 10 years (Mfollow-up = 5.47, SDfollow-up = 3.22), we employed growth mixture modelling to identify latent classes of people with different trajectories of healthy ageing scores, which incorporated 41 items of health and functioning. Multinomial logistic regression modelling was used to investigate the associations between physical activity and different types of trajectories adjusting for sociodemographic characteristics and other lifestyle behaviours. RESULTS Three latent classes of healthy ageing trajectories were identified: two with stable trajectories with high (71.4%) or low (25.2%) starting points and one with a high starting point but a fast decline over time (3.4%). Engagement in any level of physical activity was associated with decreased odds of being in the low stable (OR: 0.18; 95% CI: 0.17, 0.19) and fast decline trajectories groups (OR: 0.44; 95% CI: 0.39, 0.50) compared to the high stable trajectory group. These results were replicated with alternative physical activity operationalisations, as well as in sensitivity analyses using reduced samples. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest a positive impact of physical activity on healthy ageing, attenuating declines in health and functioning. Physical activity promotion should be a key focus of healthy ageing policies to prevent disability and fast deterioration in health.

Abstract
PURPOSE To analyze the concept of healthy aging and propose the development of a nursing diagnosis METHODS: Concept analysis using the method proposed by Walker and Avant FINDINGS: Four bibliographic databases were searched, and 36 articles were included in the analysis. Seven antecedents, seven attributes, and three consequences for "healthy aging" were identified. CONCLUSIONS The concept analysis supported the development of the new nursing diagnosis "readiness for enhanced healthy aging," which can assist nurses in implementing actions aimed at promoting the health of older adults. IMPLICATION FOR NURSING PRACTICE The establishment of a nursing diagnosis may provide nurses the opportunity to implement interventions that promote the maintenance of functional and cognitive capacity, psychological and spiritual well-being, and social engagement, aiming at healthy aging with high quality of life.

Abstract
Background: We aimed to investigate the association between physical activity and successful aging among middle-aged and older adults and study how this association changes with age and time. Results: The mean score of Newcastle-Ottawa Scale assessment was 8.0±0.8. Physically active middle-aged and older adults were more likely to age successfully than sedentary adults (OR=1.64, 95%CI: 1.40–1.94). The effect of physical activity was stronger in the younger group (OR=1.71, 95%CI: 1.41–2.08) than on the older group (OR=1.54, 95%CI: 1.13–2.08). However, the protective effect of physical activity reduced annually by approximately 3%. Conclusions: Physical activity promotes successful aging among middle-aged and older adults especially in the younger population. Being physically active at middle and old age is beneficial to successful aging. Methods: We searched for the relevant studies in three online databases: Pubmed, Web of Science, and Embase. Fifteen community-based cohort studies were included. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale assessment Form was used for quality assessment. Overall, 189,192 participants aged 43.9-79.0 years were analyzed. The odds ratio for successful aging of the most physically active group compared with sedentary group was analyzed. Subgroup analysis was conducted by age group. Univariate Meta-regression was performed according to follow-up years.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In the absence of a consensus on definition and measurement of healthy ageing, we created a healthy ageing index tallying with the functional ability framework provided by the World Health Organization. To create this index, we employed items of functional ability and intrinsic capacity. The current study aims to establish the predictive validity and discrimination properties of this healthy ageing index in settings in Latin American, part of the 10/66 cohort. METHODS Population-based cohort studies including 12,865 people ≥65 years old in catchment areas of Cuba, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Mexico and Peru. We employed latent variable modelling to estimate the healthy ageing scores of each participant. We grouped participants according to the quintiles of the healthy ageing score distribution. Cox's proportional hazard models for mortality and sub-hazard (competing risks) models for incident dependence (i.e. needing care) were calculated per area after a median of 3.9 years and 3.7 years, respectively. Results were pooled together via fixed-effects meta-analysis. Our findings were compared with those obtained from self-rated health. RESULTS Participants with lowest levels, compared to participants with highest level of healthy ageing, had increased risk of mortality and incident dependence, even after adjusting for sociodemographic and health conditions (HR: 3.25, 95%CI: 2.63-4.02; sub-HR: 5.21, 95%CI: 4.02-6.75). Healthy ageing scores compared to self-rated health had higher population attributable fractions (PAFs) for mortality (43.6% vs 19.3%) and incident dependence (58.6% vs 17.0%), and better discriminative power (Harrell's c-statistic: mortality 0.74 vs 0.72; incident dependence 0.76 vs 0.70). CONCLUSION These results provide evidence that our healthy ageing index could be a valuable tool for prevention strategies as it demonstrated predictive and discriminative properties. Further research in other cultural settings will assist moving from a theoretical conceptualisation of healthy ageing to a more practical one.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine the factors associated with healthy aging in a cohort of Mexican adults after a follow-up of 14 years. STUDY DESIGN Participants were part of a prospective cohort of the Mexican Healthy Aging Study (MHAS), from which we included 5142 individuals aged 63 years or more. MAIN OUTCOME Healthy aging, defined as reaching age 77 or 90 without major chronic conditions or physical limitations. MEASURES Information on age, education, marital status, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, self-perceived depression, health conditions and history of age-related diseases was collected at baseline and follow-up. RESULTS Among the overall cohort, 57.8% experienced healthy survival to age 77 and 42.2% had died before age 77 or were undergoing normal aging. Participants with long-lived parents and who exercised had a lower risk of being non-healthy agers. Being overweight, obese or a smoker increased the risk of being a non-healthy ager. Physically active participants had increased odds of healthy aging at age 77 (OR: 1.17; 95% CI: 1.01-1.46) and at age 90 (OR: 1.5; 95% CI: 1.01-2.24). Depression had a negative relationship with healthy aging at age 90 (OR: 0.66; 95% CI: 0.45- 0.97). Maternal longevity was associated with healthy aging only at age 77 (OR = 1.34; 95% CI: 1.04-1.72). CONCLUSIONS Our findings support the view that a combination of genetic and behavioral factors is associated with healthy aging. In accordance with findings in Caucasian populations, our data suggest for the first time that there might also be a genetic determinant for healthy ageing in Latin Americans.

Abstract
The consumption of dietary fats, which occur naturally in various foods, poses important impacts on health. The aim of this study was to elucidate the association of exclusive use of olive oil for culinary purposes with successful aging in adults aged >50 years old and residing in Greece. Use of olive oil in food preparation and bio-clinical characteristics of the Greek participants enrolled in the ATTICA (n = 1128 adults from Athens metropolitan area) and the MEDiterranean Islands Study (MEDIS) (n = 2221 adults from various Greek islands and Mani) studies, were investigated in relation to successful aging (SA). Participants were divided into the following three categories: (a) no olive oil consumption; (b) combined consumption of olive oil and other dietary fats; and (c) exclusive olive oil consumption. The SA was measured using the previously validated successful aging index (SAI). After adjusting for age, sex, and smoking habits, combined consumption of olive oil and other fats (vs. no olive oil use) was not significantly associated with SAI levels (p = 0.114). However, exclusive olive oil intake (vs. no use of olive oil) was significantly associated with SAI (p = 0.001), particularly among those aged older than 70 years. Therefore, the exclusive consumption of olive oil, as opposed to either combined or no olive oil consumption, beneficially impacts successful aging, particularly among individuals over 70 years of age. Primary public health prevention strategies should seek to encourage the enhanced adoption of such dietary practices in order to promote healthy aging and longevity.
