Abstract
BACKGROUND Insufficient attention has been given to examining the correlation between body composition and hyperuricemia, leading to inconsistent findings. The primary objective of this research is to explore the association between lean body mass index (LMI), visceral fat mass index (VFMI), and hyperuricemia. A specific emphasis will be placed on assessing the link between the ratio of lean body mass to visceral fat mass (LMI/VFMI) and hyperuricemia. METHODS The present study employed a cross-sectional design and involved a total of 9,646 individuals who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). To explore the associations among the variables, logistic and linear regressions were employed. Additionally, subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses were conducted based on various characteristics. RESULTS The results showed that LMI was positively associated with hyperuricemia (for Per-SD: OR = 1.88, 95%CI: 1.75, 2.01; for quartiles [Q4:Q1]: OR = 5.37, 95%CI: 4.31, 6.69). Meanwhile, VFMI showed a positive association with hyperuricemia (for Per-SD: OR = 2.02, 95%CI: 1.88, 2.16; for quartiles [Q4:Q1]: OR =8.37, 95%CI: 6.70, 10.47). When considering the effects of In LMI/VFMI, an L-shaped negative association with hyperuricemia was observed (for Per-SD: OR = 0.45, 95%CI: 0.42, 0.49; for quartiles [Q4:Q1]: OR = 0.16, 95%CI: 0.13, 0.20). Subgroup and sensitivity analyses demonstrated the robustness of this association across different subgroups. Additionally, the segmented regression analysis indicated a saturation effect of 5.64 for the In LMI/VFMI with hyperuricemia (OR = 0.20, 95%CI: 0.17, 0.24). For every 2.72-fold increase of In LMI/VFMI, the risk of hyperuricemia was reduced by 80%. CONCLUSION The LMI/VFMI ratio is non-linearly associated with serum uric acid. Whether this association is causal needs to be confirmed in further longitudinal studies or Mendelian randomization.

Abstract
Background The agreement on the identification of sarcopenic obesity remains elusive, and its association with hyperuricemia remains unestablished. This study sought to evaluate the agreement of low lean mass (LLM) with obesity and its correlation with hyperuricemia. Methods A total of 25,252 study participants, comprising 4,597 individuals with hyperuricemia, were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey spanning the years 1999-2006 and 2011-2018. LLM with obesity was characterized by the coexistence of LLM, determined by the ratio of appendicular lean mass to body mass index (BMI), and three categories of obesity including BMI, body fat percentage (BF%), and waist circumference (WC). We employed Cohen's kappa to evaluate the agreement among the different diagnostic criteria and implemented survey multiple logistic regression and stratified analyses to explicate the connection between LLM with obesity and the risk of hyperuricemia. Results When defining obesity using BF%, BMI, and WC, the prevalence of LLM with obesity varied from 6.6 to 10.1%, with moderate-to-strong agreement. In the fully adjusted model, individuals with LLM or any of the three types of obesity exhibited notably elevated odds of developing hyperuricemia. Likewise, participants with LLM and obesity had 2.70 (LLM + BMI), 2.44 (LLM + BF%), and 3.12 (LLM + WC) times the risk of hyperuricemia, respectively, compared with healthy individuals. The association between LLM with obesity and hyperuricemia remained stable and significant across different age and sex subgroups. Conclusion When employing the three definitions of obesity, the incidence of LLM with obesity was not high, and the diagnostic agreement was relatively good. The participants with LLM and obesity exhibited an increased risk of hyperuricemia.

Abstract
Introduction The study findings investigated uric acid reference values and their association with a cluster of cardiometabolic risk factors among adolescents using the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). Methods A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using the KNHANES database from 2016 to 2018, involving a total of 2,462 participants aged between 10 and 18 years. Based on age- and sex-specific percentile curves for serum uric acid (SUA) levels from the KNHANES, we examined the correlation between cardiometabolic risk factors and serum uric acid levels. Results The percentile values of SUA varied with sex and age. In male subjects, SUA levels tended to increase from 10 to 14 years of age and plateaued after 14 years of age. Moreover, the overall uric acid level in females was found to be lower than that in males; the levels tended to increase at approximately 10 to 12 years old but were relatively consistent according to age. Mean uric acid levels increased according to obesity status in both males and females. However, correlation analysis revealed that SUA levels were associated with several metabolic risks even after adjusting for obesity. The detailed metabolic syndrome (MetS) components that were observed to be associated with an increase in uric acid levels were different between males and females, but overall, high uric acid levels increased MetS risk. Additionally, a significant increase in MetS-related odds ratio (OR) for components, including waist circumference (WC), triglyceride (TG) levels, and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), was observed. However, differences between sexes were apparent, with a more pronounced increase in OR based on SUA levels in girls. Discussion SUA levels were closely associated with MetS and its components, even in nonobese subjects. Therefore, high SUA levels in children and young adolescents should be closely monitored to prevent MetS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Hyperuricemia has become a vital public health problem affecting the health of residents. The visceral fat area (VFA) is closely related to many chronic diseases. However, the association between VFA and hyperuricemia within the Chinese adult population remains nebulous. The aim of the research is to assess the relationship between VFA and serum uric acid levels. METHODS AND RESULTS From June 2020 to June 2021, a total of 340 Chinese adults (240 in the control group and 100 in the hyperuricemia group) were recruited from the physical examination center of Hongqi Hospital Affiliated to Mudanjiang Medical University. General demographic characteristics were collected by questionnaire. VFA was measured by a body composition analyzer, and serum biochemical indices were detected by clinical laboratory. VFA in the hyperuricemia group was higher than in the control group (P<0.05). Further, VFA demonstrated a positive correlation with serum uric acid level (rs = 0.370, P<0.001). To further explore this relationship, we divided the VFA into quartiles (<P25, P25-P50, P50-P75, ≥P75). Upon comparison with the <P25 group, we found the VFA in the P25-P50, P50-P75, and ≥P75 groups to be associated with a substantially escalated risk of hyperuricemia, even after adjusting for age, gender, body weight, fasting plasma glucose, calcium, alanine transaminase, urea, alkaline phosphatase, and γ-glutamyltransferase. The OR and 95% CI were 2.547 (1.023, 6.341), 3.788 (1.409, 10.187) and 3.723 (1.308, 10.595), respectively (P<0.05). CONCLUSION VFA has a positive correlation with serum uric acid levels and may serve as a crucial predictive marker for hyperuricemia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Observational studies have shown that visceral adipose tissue (VAT) can increase the risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the causality of this association remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the causal association between VAT and NAFLD. DESIGN We obtained single-nucleotide polymorphisms strongly associated with VAT (n = 325,153) from large-scale genome-wide association studies. Summary-level data for NAFLD (2275 cases and 375,002 controls) was available from the FinnGen consortium. We applied two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) to determine the causal association between VAT and NAFLD. The random-effects inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method was used as the main MR approach, with alternate methods including the weighted median (WM) approach and MR-Egger regression. In addition, we conducted sensitivity analyses to assess the robustness of MR analyses. RESULTS Genetically predicted higher VAT mass is causally associated with a higher risk of NAFLD. The three analysis results of MR were as follows: IVW (β = 0.665, odds ratio [OR] = 1.944, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.482-2.550, p = 1.58e-06], WM (β = 0.615, OR = 1.849, 95% CI = 1.272-2.689, p = 1.29e-03), and MR-Egger (β = 1.250, OR = 3.490, 95% CI = 1.522-7.998, p = 3.52e-03). In the sensitivity analysis, the data showed heterogeneity (p < 0.05) but no pleiotropy (p = 0.145). CONCLUSION This study provided genetic evidence that higher VAT mass causally associated with a higher risk of NAFLD. The amount of VAT could be reduced using a therapeutic strategy for managing NAFLD.

Abstract
Background Hyperuricemia is a common condition that can lead to gout and other related diseases. It has been suggested that Inflammatory factors play important role in the development and progression of hyperuricemia. The dietary inflammatory index (DII) enables the assessment of the inflammatory potential of an individual's diet. This study aimed to investigate the association between DII and hyperuricemia. Methods This study was performed based on a cross-sectional dataset from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2018. Participants aged 18 years and above with dietary intake and serum uric acid level information were included. DII scores were calculated using dietary intake data, based on which participants were categorized into tertiles. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was adopted to investigate the association between DII and hyperuricemia. Results Among a total of 31,781 participants in the analysis, 5,491 had hyperuricemia. After adjusting confounding factors, the odds of hyperuricemia are significantly higher in the second (OR 1.17, 95% CI 1.07-1.29) and third tertiles (OR 1.31, 95% CI 1.19-1.44) relative to the first one. Conclusion This study suggested that diet with higher inflammatory potential, as measured by DII, is associated with increased hyperuricemia risk. These findings indicated that dietary modification may be a potential approach for hyperuricemia's prevention and control.

Abstract
Hyperuricemia (HUA) is associated with a wide range of diseases and increases the public health burden on society as a whole. In addition to genetic variation, diet plays a crucial role in the prevention and treatment of HUA as an important modifiable behavior. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether food groups and consumption time are associated with HUA. A total of 41,230 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2005 and 2018 were included in the study. All meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, were obtained according to their corresponding Food Patterns Equivalents Database dietary data. The binary logistic regression model was used to analyze the relationship between food groups, food consumption time and HUA. We found that the intake of fruit (mixed in various forms) (OR = 0.942, 95% CI: 0.909-0.976) or freshly squeezed juices (OR = 0.915, 95% CI: 0.859-0.975), milk (OR = 0.839, 95% CI: 0.808-0.872), and eggs (OR = 0.881, 95% CI: 0.839-0.924), poultry (OR = 1.055, 95% CI: 1.033-1.077) and seafood high in n-3 fatty acids (OR = 1.068, 95% CI: 0.1.018-1.120) at dinner, eating refined grains at breakfast (OR = 0.954, 95% CI: 0.924-0.985) and dinner (OR = 0.962, 95% CI: 0.944-0.980), eating whole grains (OR = 0.908, 95% CI: 0.845-0.976) at lunch, consuming alcoholic beverages or foods at breakfast (OR = 0.748, 95% CI: 0.564-0.990)/lunch (OR = 1.118, 95% CI: 1.008-1.240)/dinner (OR = 1.127, 95% CI: 1.073-1.185) were associated with HUA. Eating particular meals at particular times of the day was related to a lower risk of HUA.
