Abstract
High resolution spectroscopy on the Tokamak à Configuration Variable (TCV) divertor plasma provided Doppler broadening measurements to infer the ion and neutral temperature of injected helium gas. This paper presents the Divertor Spectroscopy System's (DSS) access to He II ion temperature measurements over a broad range, ≈0.5-15 eV, with an uncertainty of <10% for most of the studied plasma discharges. TCV's shaping flexibility was employed to validate these measurements against Thomson scattering across the DSS lines of sight. In detachment-related experiments, Ti(He II) ≃ Te, making this diagnostic a reliable thermometer along the divertor leg plasma over the wide range of magnetic equilibria and divertor configurations achievable in TCV. A detailed description of the diagnostic hardware, data analysis, and sources of uncertainty is presented.

Abstract
Background: Transgender healthcare is a rapidly evolving interdisciplinary field. In the last decade, there has been an unprecedented increase in the number and visibility of transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people seeking support and gender-affirming medical treatment in parallel with a significant rise in the scientific literature in this area. The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) is an international, multidisciplinary, professional association whose mission is to promote evidence-based care, education, research, public policy, and respect in transgender health. One of the main functions of WPATH is to promote the highest standards of health care for TGD people through the Standards of Care (SOC). The SOC was initially developed in 1979 and the last version (SOC-7) was published in 2012. In view of the increasing scientific evidence, WPATH commissioned a new version of the Standards of Care, the SOC-8. Aim: The overall goal of SOC-8 is to provide health care professionals (HCPs) with clinical guidance to assist TGD people in accessing safe and effective pathways to achieving lasting personal comfort with their gendered selves with the aim of optimizing their overall physical health, psychological well-being, and self-fulfillment. Methods: The SOC-8 is based on the best available science and expert professional consensus in transgender health. International professionals and stakeholders were selected to serve on the SOC-8 committee. Recommendation statements were developed based on data derived from independent systematic literature reviews, where available, background reviews and expert opinions. Grading of recommendations was based on the available evidence supporting interventions, a discussion of risks and harms, as well as the feasibility and acceptability within different contexts and country settings. Results: A total of 18 chapters were developed as part of the SOC-8. They contain recommendations for health care professionals who provide care and treatment for TGD people. Each of the recommendations is followed by explanatory text with relevant references. General areas related to transgender health are covered in the chapters Terminology, Global Applicability, Population Estimates, and Education. The chapters developed for the diverse population of TGD people include Assessment of Adults, Adolescents, Children, Nonbinary, Eunuchs, and Intersex Individuals, and people living in Institutional Environments. Finally, the chapters related to gender-affirming treatment are Hormone Therapy, Surgery and Postoperative Care, Voice and Communication, Primary Care, Reproductive Health, Sexual Health, and Mental Health. Conclusions: The SOC-8 guidelines are intended to be flexible to meet the diverse health care needs of TGD people globally. While adaptable, they offer standards for promoting optimal health care and guidance for the treatment of people experiencing gender incongruence. As in all previous versions of the SOC, the criteria set forth in this document for gender-affirming medical interventions are clinical guidelines; individual health care professionals and programs may modify these in consultation with the TGD person.

Abstract
BackgroundChildren with severe cerebral palsy are prone to low bone mineral density. Standing frames are recommended as postural management for these children. The beneficial effects in promoting bone health remain unclear.ObjectivesTo determine whether static standing frames enhance bone remodeling in real life in severe cerebral palsy.Methods24 children with severe cerebral palsy GMFCS IV & V were included in the study and were divided into two groups: 13 were using a passive standing frame and 11 were not. We performed a single center retrospective cross-sectional study comparing the two groups using dual X-ray absorptiometry data and tests on biological samples, including bone remodeling factors.ResultsTotal body (less head) bone mineral content was significantly higher in children who used a standing frame for an average of 30 min/day. This was confirmed in the lumbar spine. Although the total body bone mineral density (less head and proximal femur) densitometric data were not significantly higher, a positive trend favored the use of a standing frame in the children. Bone resorptive factors (CTX) were higher in the non standing-frame group, whereas there was no difference among osteoformation factors. No difference in fracture history was found.ConclusionUsed in real life, we showed that static standing practice improved mineralization by reducing osteoresorption in non-ambulant children with cerebral palsy. Abstract
The nomenclatural type material of Rhizophagus intraradices (basionym Glomus intraradices) was originally described from a trap pot culture established with root fragments, subcultures of which later became registered in the INVAM culture collection as FL 208. Subcultures of FL 208 (designated as strain ATT 4) and a new strain, independently isolated from the type location (ATT 1102), were established as both pot cultures with soil-like substrate and in vitro root organ culture. Long-term sampling of these cultures shows spores of the species to have considerable morphological plasticity, not described in the original description. Size, shape and other features of the spores were much more variable than indicated in the protologue. Phylogenetic analyses confirmed earlier published evidence that sequences from all R. intraradices cultures formed a monophyletic clade, well separated from, and not representing a sister clade to, R. irregularis. Moreover, new phylogenetic analyses show that Rhizoglomus venetianum and R. irregularis are synonymous. The morphological characters used to separate these species exemplify the difficulties in species recognition due to the high phenotypic plasticity in the genus Rhizophagus. Rhizophagus intraradices is morphologically re-described, an epitype is designated from a single-spore isolate derived from ATT 4, and R. venetianum is synonymised with R. irregularis.

Abstract
In France, 10 % of total arable land is equipped with subsurface drainage systems, to control winter and spring waterlogging due to a temporary perched water table. Most of these systems were installed in the1980s and have aged since then and may now need maintenance. Sometimes, the location of the systems is known, but the standard situation in France is that the original as-built master sketches are no longer available. Performance assessment of drainage systems and curative actions are complicated since drain location is unknown. In this article, the authors test the application of a non-destructive drain detection method which consists in water injection at the outfall of the drainage network combined with time-lapse electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) monitoring. To assess the performance of this methodology, which consists in measuring electrical resistivity from electrodes placed at the nodes of a 1.2-m regular mesh, the authors interpreted the signal using a two-step approach. The first step is based on 3D ERT numerical modelling during a scenario of surface infiltration processes (forward modelling followed by geophysical inversion); this step optimizes the ERT method for locating the infiltration at depths below 1 m. The second step is the validation of the results obtained by numerical modelling with an experimental data set, using water injection into the drainage network combined with time-lapse ERT monitoring on an experimental field site. The results showed the relevance of time-lapse ERT monitoring on a small agricultural plot for locating the drainage network. The numerical results also showed several limitations of the combined methodology: (i) it is necessary to use an electrode spacing unit less than 1.20 m, which does not facilitate investigation on large agriculture plots, (ii) measurements must be taken when resistivity contrast is the strongest between the infiltration area and the soil and (iii) the volume of water needed for injection can limit the extension of the method.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Large studies on long-term kidney outcome in patients with anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) GN are lacking. This study aimed to identify clinical and histopathologic parameters that predict kidney outcome in these patients. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, & MEASUREMENTS This retrospective analysis included a total of 123 patients with anti-GBM GN between 1986 and 2015 from six centers worldwide. Their kidney biopsy samples were classified according to the histopathologic classification for ANCA-associated GN. Clinical data such as details of treatment were retrieved from clinical records. The primary outcome parameter was the occurrence of ESRD. Kidney survival was analyzed using the log-rank test and Cox regression analyses. RESULTS The 5-year kidney survival rate was 34%, with an improved rate observed among patients diagnosed after 2007 (P=0.01). In patients with anti-GBM GN, histopathologic class and kidney survival were associated (P<0.001). Only one of 15 patients with a focal class biopsy sample (≥50% normal glomeruli) developed ESRD. Patients with a sclerotic class biopsy sample (≥50% globally sclerotic glomeruli) and patients with 100% cellular crescents did not recover from dialysis dependency at presentation. In multivariable analysis, dialysis dependency at presentation (hazard ratio [HR], 3.17; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 1.59 to 6.32), percentage of normal glomeruli (HR, 0.97; 95% CI, 0.95 to 0.99), and extent of interstitial infiltrate (HR, 2.02; 95% CI, 1.17 to 3.50) were predictors of ESRD during follow-up. CONCLUSIONS Dialysis dependency, low percentage of normal glomeruli, and large extent of interstitial infiltrate are associated with poor kidney outcome in anti-GBM GN. Kidney outcome has improved during recent years; the success rate doubled after 2007. Abstract
An analytical method was developed to characterize puparia cuticular lipids (hydrocarbons, waxes) and to compare the molecular distribution patterns in the extracts from either recent or older puparia. Acid-catalyzed transesterification and solvent extraction and purification, followed by combined gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, were optimized for the determination of hydrocarbons and fatty acid ethyl esters from transesterified waxes, extracted from a single species of a fly scavenger (Hydrotaea aenescens Wiedemann, 1830). Comparison between recent (2012) or older (1997) puparia contents has highlighted significant composition differences, in particular, a general decrease of the chain length in the n-alkane distribution pattern and, on the contrary, an increase of the ester chain length. Both extracts contain traces of three hopane hydrocarbon congeners. Preliminary results evidence the change in puparia lipid composition over time, thus potentially providing new indices for estimating postmortem interval.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In tissue engineering, the endothelialization of vascular scaffold can be a crucial step to improve graft patency. A functional cellularization requires coating surfaces. Since 2003, our group used polyelectrolyte multilayer films (PEMFs) made of poly(allylamine hydrochloride) and polystyren sulfonate to coat luminal surface of blood vessel. Previous results showed that PEMFs have remarkable effect on cellular behavior: adhesion, proliferation, differentiation. However, no method seems adapted for in vitro measurement of the viscoelastic shift after PEMFs buildup. OBJECTIVE In this present work, we proposed to use a new analytical method based on Brillouin spectroscopy (BS) to investigate the influence PEMFs coating on vessel intrinsic viscoelasticy. METHODS On human umbilical arteries and rabbit vessels, PEMFs were buildup and the luminal surfaces viscoelasticy were measuring by BS. RESULTS It seems that these films do not alter dynamic functionality and BS could be an interesting method for understanding the role of the tissue architecture, the interrelation between the different structures constituting the wall and the influence of this architecture on the tissue behavior, especially with the characterized components of the different vascular wall. CONCLUSION The ability of BS to characterize biological samples opens potential applications in tissue engineering field, especially as a tool for a better understanding of vascular diseases.

Abstract
A surface-illuminated photoconductive detector based on Ge0.91Sn0.09 quantum wells with Ge barriers grown on a silicon substrate is demonstrated. Photodetection up to 2.2µm is achieved with a responsivity of 0.1 A/W for 5V bias. The spectral absorption characteristics are analyzed as a function of the GeSn/Ge heterostructure parameters. This work demonstrates that GeSn/Ge heterostructures can be used to developed SOI waveguide integrated photodetectors for short-wave infrared applications.

Abstract
AIM In Western European populations, about 18% of all individuals have a complete deficiency of the alpha-actinin-3 protein owing to homozygosity for a stop codon mutation (R577X) in the ACTN3 gene. Actn3(-/-) knock-out mice show increased activity of multiple enzymes in the aerobic metabolic pathway in fast muscle fibres. Whether this observation is also present in human XX genotype carriers compared to RR carriers has not been studied in a fibre-type-specific approach in humans. The purpose of this study was therefore to compare fibre-type-specific oxidative enzyme activity in humans with a different ACTN3 R577X genotype. METHODS Vastus lateralis muscle biopsy samples of 17 XX and 16 RR subjects were used to measure markers of oxidative capacity [cytochrome c oxidase (CYTOX) and succinate dehydrogenase (SDH)] in a fibre-type-specific assay using enzyme histochemistry. RESULTS Cytochrome c oxidase staining showed no significant genotype group differences in type I or type II muscle fibres. Also, we found no significant differences in SDH staining of fast fibres comparing XX and RR carriers. CONCLUSION In conclusion, the increase in oxidative enzyme activity of fast muscle fibres, as reported in an Actn3(-/-) knock-out mouse, was not observed in our human samples. Known differences in metabolic characteristics of muscle fibres in rodents compared to humans may in part explain this discrepancy in findings.

Abstract
Restriction digestion analysis of the ITS products was tested as an easy method to identify isolates of filamentous fungi on grapes. Endonucleases SduI, HinfI, MseI, HaeIII were used. Endonucleases BfmI, Cfr9I, Hpy188I, MaeII or PspGI were used as necessary to complete discrimination. The 43 species studied generated 42 different composite profiles. Only the species P. thomii and P. glabrum gave the same composite profile. 96.3% strains tested could be differentiated to the species level with only four enzymes. Hundred ninety nine strains of filamentous fungi were isolated from various vineyards in Burgundy and identified by this method. Penicillium (58.5%) was the genus the most frequently isolated and no strains of the genus Aspergillus was isolated. P. spinolusum was the most isolated species of Penicillium (22.70%). The species C. cladiosporioides, B. cinerea, E. nigrum, A. alternata, T. koningiopsis, P. diplodiella, C. herbarum, A. alternatum, T. cucumeris and F. oxysporum were also isolated. This technique is a rapid and reliable method appropriate for routine identification of filamentous fungi. This can be used to screen large numbers of isolates from various environments in a short time. This is the first exhaustive study of fungal diversity at species level in vineyard.

Abstract
It was found that dogs with a subcutaneous transplant secreting and discharging pancreatic juice externally absorbed no more fat than dogs in which the pancreatic remnant was undergoing rapid atrophy and sclerosis. Hence, the condition of the pancreatic tissue remaining in the body does not influence the amount of fat absorbed by the intestine. The absorption of fat by the intestinal mucous membrane is always markedly disturbed when the pancreatic secretion is excluded from the intestine. After the complete removal of all pancreatic tissue from an animal, the absorption of considerable amounts of fat can still take place.

Abstract
AbstractA regional sequence stratigraphic model is proposed for the Oligo-Miocene Asmari and Pabdeh Formations in the Dezful Embayment of SW Iran. The model is based on both new detailed sedimentological observations in outcrops, core and well logs, and an improved high-resolution chronostratigraphic framework constrained by Sr isotope stratigraphy and biostratigraphy. A better understanding of the stratigraphic architecture distinguishes four, geographically separated types of Asmari reservoirs.Three Oligocene sequences (of Rupelian, early Chattian and late Chattian age) and three Miocene sequences (of early Aquitanian, late Aquitanian and early Burdigalian age) have been distinguished, representing a period of 15.4 Ma. The stratigraphic architecture of these sequences is primarily controlled by glacio-eustatic sea-level fluctuations, which determined the distribution of carbonates, sandstones and anhydrites in this sedimentary system. Tectonic control became important in the Burdigalian with a regional tilt down towards the NE. The lithological heterogeneity, the complex geometries, and both early and late diagenetic alterations are the basis for a classification of four main stratigraphic reference types for the Asmari Reservoirs: Type 1, sandstone dominated; Type 2, mixed carbonate-siliciclastic; Type 3, mixed carbonate-anhydrite; and Type 4, carbonate dominated. The sequence stratigraphic model predicts how and when these types change laterally from one to another.

Abstract
It is shown that the addition, over suitable concentration ranges, of mixtures of (nonadsorbing) sodium poly(styrene sulfonate) and potassium chloride, to dispersions of silica particles in water, can lead to very large changes in the sediment height of the resulting aggregates, reflecting similarly large changes in particle packing density within the aggregates. It can also lead to aggregation rates which are considerably faster than the diffusion-controlled rates (by as much as a factor of 2.5), although this enhancement is reduced as the dispersion particle concentration is reduced.

Abstract
We use electrophoretic mobility (mu) measurements of charged colloidal particles under the presence of multivalent counterions as a probe of the electrostatic correlations between them; they become important for sufficiently high surface charge densities of the colloid (sigma) and result in a decreasing mu upon increasing sigma. The physics of this decrease is the same as that giving rise to charge inversion. We account qualitatively for the observations by considering recent theoretical arguments that assume the counterions next to the colloid surface as a strongly correlated liquid of properties similar to that of a Wigner crystal.

Abstract
When constructing a complete denture, the correct vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) and centric relation (CR) can be difficult to determine. The aim of this study was to compare the swallowing technique used to determine the maxillomandibular relationship with a conventional technique. Fifteen edentulous patients were selected, each having a complete denture. The VDO and CR were assessed using acrylic base plates and a Boley gauge. First, the VDO was established by means of the vertical dimension of rest (VDR) and interocclusal rest space, and the CR was obtained by mandibular manipulation. Secondly, the VDO and the antero-posterior mandibular position were determined using swallowing. All measurements were repeated three times and the average was calculated. The results showed that (i). the VDO determined by means of the swallowing method was reproducible and significantly higher than the one established from the VDR (P < 0.01), and (ii). the swallowing position was located 2 mm anterior to CR (P < 0.01) and was moderately reproducible. This study suggests that swallowing can be used to determine the vertical position but no as a reference position in the sagittal plane.

Abstract
The adsorption isotherms for certain polymer and surfactant molecules (and in some cases their mixtures) on stainless steel beads from isooctane have been obtained, together with corresponding adsorbed layer thicknesses, using an atomic force microscope. The polymer is a terminally functionalised (ethylene diamine), low molecular weight polyisobutylene (PIB) derivative and the surfactants are basically alkyl or alkyl phenol alkoxylate molecules, which in one case has been derivatised with an amino functionality. The results indicate the presence of multilayers at the stainless steel-isooctane interface. Theoretical analysis of the surfactant adsorption isotherms suggests molecular aggregation at the interface with an aggregation number between 2 and 6, at the highest coverages. The adsorption of the polymer is reduced in the presence of the surfactant molecules. The polymer leaches metal ions from the steel surface at higher concentrations.

Abstract
The controlled release of 4-nitroanisole from polylactide nanoparticles with different morphologies is reported. Two theoretical equations have been used in an attempt to fit the experimental results. Good agreement between theory and experiment was found for short release time. The estimated values of the diffusion coefficient of 4-nitroanisole in these nanoparticles, at short times (up to 50% release), were all approximately 10(-19) m(2)s(-1). At long time some differences in release behaviour were observed for different morphologies.

Abstract
In this work, the aggregation of mesoscopic gel particles (soft colloids) has been experimentally investigated. The interaction between particles was controlled through the addition of salt, above the critical coagulation concentration, resulting in aggregation with finite bond energies. Attention has been paid to the structure of the clusters formed in the process as well as to the aggregation kinetics. The results indicate that the clusters are fractal and the kinetics of aggregation can be described through the dynamic scaling solution of the Smoluchowski equation. As the energy minimum increases in depth the resultant clusters pass from a very compact structure to typical diffusion-limited cluster aggregation (DLCA) fractal dimension values. In addition, the kinetics of growth change from those observed in reaction controlled aggregation to DLCA. These results can be explained within the framework of a reversible growth model, arising from the fact that aggregation takes place in an energy minimum of restricted depth. Moreover, they show that structure and kinetics decouple for such a soft sphere system, in contrast to what is encountered for DLCA and reaction-limited processes. Finally, an unexpected return to a reaction controlled aggregation kinetics was observed for sufficiently deep energy minima, which could be due to the polymerlike particularities of the soft particles considered in this work.

Abstract
Genetic and biochemical evidence have led to the suggestion that presenilins could be the long-searched-for gamma-secretase, the proteolytic activity that generates the carboxy terminus of amyloid beta-peptides. This activity is also thought to be responsible for the release of the Notch intracellular domain (NICD) from Notch. Here, we report the production of endogenous secreted and intracellular 40- and 42-amino-acid Abeta peptides in mouse fibroblasts deficient in presenilin 1, presenilin 2 or both. We show that the endogenous production of Abeta40 and Abeta42 was not altered by presenilin deficiency. By contrast, inactivating presenilin genes fully abolished NICD production. These data indicate that Abeta and NICD production are distinct catabolic events. Also, even though NICD formation is indeed presenilin dependent, endogenous secreted and intracellular beta-amyloid peptides are still generated in absence of presenilins, indicating that there is a gamma-secretase activity distinct from presenilins, at least in murine fibroblasts.
