Abstract
PURPOSE To study the impact of a contrast mitigation protocol on imaging utilization for pulmonary embolism (PE) in the emergency department (ED). MATERIAL AND METHODS Medical records of ED patients with suspected PE who underwent CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA) or ventilation-perfusion (VQ) scans were analyzed in control (3/15/22-4/15/22) and test (5/15/22-6/15/22) periods. The test period included a contrast mitigation protocol due to a global iodinated contrast shortage (05/2022-06/2022). Out of 610 scans, 28 were excluded for non-PE indications. Patient demographics, time metrics, and imaging reports were recorded. RESULTS Among 11,019 ED visits, there were 582 imaging events for suspected PE. The test period exhibited a significantly lower imaging rate of 4.16 % compared to 6.54 % in the control period (p < 0.001). CTPA usage decreased by 47.73 %, while VQ scan usage increased by 775.00 % during the test period. Test period positivity rate was 0.82 %, with CTPA at 0.58 % (1/173) and VQ scan at 1.43 % (1/70). In the control period, the positivity rate was 0.29 %, with CTPA at 0.30 % (1/331) and VQ scan at 0.00 % (0/8). Previous hospitalization history was significantly higher in the test period (70/243 vs. 39/339, p < 0.001). The positivity rates between the two periods showed no significant difference (p = 0.57). There were no significant differences in ED length of stay and image acquisition times. CONCLUSION The contrast mitigation protocol reduced CTPA use, increased VQ scans, and maintained positivity rates and image acquisition times. However, concerns persist about unnecessary imaging and low positivity rates, necessitating further research to optimize PE diagnostic algorithms.

Abstract
Compound nerve action potentials (CNAPs) were used as a metric to assess the stimulation performance of a novel high-density, transverse, intrafascicular electrode in rat models. We show characteristic CNAPs recorded from distally implanted cuff electrodes. Evaluation of the CNAPs as a function of stimulus current and calculation of recruitment plots were used to obtain a qualitative approximation of the neural interface's placement and orientation inside the nerve. This method avoids elaborate surgeries required for the implantation of EMG electrodes and thus minimizes surgical complications and may accelerate the healing process of the implanted subject.

Abstract
We herein report the synthesis and catalytic application of a new family of dinuclear Cu(I) complexes based on [N,P]-pyrrole ligands. The Cu(I) complexes (4a-d) were obtained in good yields and their catalytic properties were evaluated in the1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azomethine ylides and electron-deficient alkenes. The air-stable complexes 4a-d exhibited high endo-diasteroselectivity to obtain substituted pyrrolidines, and the catalytic system showed excellent reactivity and wide substitution tolerance.

Abstract
Volunteer clinical faculty in private practice provide important clinical teaching and mentorship to dermatology residency programs. Motivations for serving as volunteer clinical faculty in specialties such as obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine, and family medicine have been identified; however, there is limited data on what drives private practice physicians to volunteer to teach in dermatology residency training programs. This study examined motivators, facilitators, and barriers to serving as volunteer clinical faculty using an anonymous survey of dermatologists, Mohs surgeons, and dermatopathologists affiliated with Emory University's dermatology residency program. Among the 38 invited participants, 26 (68%) completed the survey. The types of practices represented include general dermatology (71%), Mohs surgery (23%), cosmetic dermatology (58%), and dermatopathology (27%). Traditional lectures and impromptu teaching sessions were the most utilized teaching modalities, with 14 (54%) and 11 (42%) of respondents reporting usage, respectively. Most respondents ranked altruistic statements such as "opportunity to be helpful to others" (26, 100%), "providing service to the field of dermatology" (25, 96%), and "enjoyment of teaching" (25, 96%) as important motivations. In contrast, extrinsic rewards such as career advancement and increased income were rated as least important. Significant barriers included limited time for travel and teaching and credentialing. Proposed facilitators included promoting schedule flexibility, increasing teaching supplies, and streamlining credentialing. This single-center study may have limited generalizability to other residency programs with varying characteristics. The motivators, facilitators, and barriers identified by this survey can inform dermatology residency programs on how to maximize volunteer clinical faculty recruitment, retention, and engagement, thus strengthening clinical teaching and mentorship offered.

Abstract
As a new approach, pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazines were synthesized through the cyclization of 2-formylpyrrole-based enaminones in the presence of ammonium acetate. The enaminones were prepared with a straightforward method, reacting the corresponding alkyl 2-(2-formyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)acetates, 2-(2-formyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)acetonitrile, and 2-(2-formyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)acetophenones with DMFDMA. Analogous enaminones elaborated from alkyl (E)-3-(1H-pyrrol-2-yl)acrylates were treated with a Lewis acid to afford indolizines. The antifungal activity of the series of substituted pyrroles, pyrrole-based enaminones, pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazines, and indolizines was evaluated on six Candida spp., including two multidrug-resistant ones. Compared to the reference drugs, most test compounds produced a more robust antifungal effect. Docking analysis suggests that the inhibition of yeast growth was probably mediated by the interaction of the compounds with the catalytic site of HMGR of the Candida species.

Abstract
In 2020, over 1.2 million people were at risk of acquiring human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), though only 25% were prescribed pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Given the multitude of dermatologic manifestations of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, dermatologic care can serve as the entry point to the HIV care continuum. Currently, there is limited data on specialists' perspectives on HIV PrEP prescribing. We aimed to survey clinicians and trainees in an academic dermatology department about HIV PrEP-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices. Survey questions were adapted from existing literature on HIV stigma and PrEP-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices. Composite scores for each domain were averaged and compared between clinicians and trainees using Wilcoxon's signed rank test or Fisher's exact test. Of 135 providers invited, 31 (23%) completed the survey (11 clinicians and 20 trainees). Of the 31 participants, 16 (52%) had specialized HIV experience and training. When asked about discriminatory beliefs, nine participants (29%) agreed that HIV infection is a "consequence of irresponsible behavior." PrEP knowledge was low, with 13 (42%) participants answering zero out of 3 PrEP knowledge questions correctly. Additionally, 10 (91%) clinicians reported poor knowledge of PrEP side effects, and eight clinicians (73%) indicated they were "not comfortable at all" in prescribing PrEP. No participant had prescribed PrEP, and 22 (70%) participants had never discussed PrEP with patients. Dermatology clinicians and trainees reported some levels of HIV stigma. Substantial gaps in PrEP knowledge and discussion were reported despite prior HIV discrimination training and HIV-related practice experience. Study limitations include a small sample size and a modest response rate. Addressing stigma among dermatologists and improving HIV PrEP education is vital to enhancing the healthcare outcomes of people living with HIV.

Abstract
A novel synthetic methodology is reported for the synthesis of fluorescent pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrimidines. Fischer carbene complexes served as the synthetic platform for (3+3) cyclization to form the heterocyclic moiety. The reaction process furnished two products, their ratio being modulated by the metal, base, and solvent. The selectivity exhibited was studied by analyzing the potential energy surface with density functional theory tools. The photophysical properties of absorption and emission were also evaluated. The dyes absorbed at wavelengths of 240-440 nm, depending on the substituents. The maximum emission wavelength was in the range of 470-513 nm, with quantum yields of 0.36-1.0 and a high Stokes shift range of 75-226 nm.

Abstract
Fenna-Mathews-Olson complexes participate in the photosynthetic process of Sulfur Green Bacteria. These biological subsystems exhibit quantum features which possibly are responsible for their high efficiency; the latter may comprise multipartite entanglement and the apparent tunnelling of the initial quantum state. At first, to study these aspects, a multidisciplinary approach including experimental biology, spectroscopy, physics, and math modelling is required. Then, a global computer modelling analysis is achieved in the computational biology domain. The current work implements the Hierarchical Equations of Motion to numerically solve the open quantum system problem regarding this complex. The time-evolved states obtained with this method are then analysed under several measures of entanglement, some of them already proposed in the literature. However, for the first time, the maximum overlap with respect to the closest separable state is employed. This authentic multipartite entanglement measure provides information on the correlations, not only based on the system bipartitions as in the usual analysis. Our study has led us to note a different view of FMO multipartite entanglement as tiny contributions to the global entanglement suggested by other more basic measurements. Additionally, in another related trend, the initial state, considered as a Förster Resonance Energy Transfer, is tracked using a novel approach, considering how it could be followed under the fidelity measure on all possible permutations of the FMO subsystems through its dynamical evolution by observing the tunnelling in the most probable locations. Both analyses demanded significant computational work, making for a clear example of the complexity required in computational biology.

Abstract
The paramedian forehead flap is an axial flap which utilizes vascular support
from the supratrochlear artery to repair extensive nasal defects. Adverse
outcomes including flap necrosis, infection, alar rim pull, and poor cosmesis
can be seen with this flap. We report an 85-year-old woman with chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease who underwent a staged paramedian forehead flap
repair with a cartilage inlay complicated by moderate left alar rim necrosis and
pedicle notching. In this patient, we were able to salvage the original pedicle
and reposition it to achieve a satisfactory functional and cosmetic outcome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND After exhausting other therapeutic options, pelvic exenteration is performed in patients who suffer from relapsed gynaecologic tumours, with most of them requiring some sort of urinary diversion. MATERIAL AND METHODS The main objective of this study was to assess the short- and medium/long-term urinary complications associated with the Bricker ileal conduit versus double-barrelled wet colostomy after performing a pelvic exenteration for gynaecologic malignancies. RESULTS A total of 61 pelvic exenterations were identified between November 2010 and April 2022; 29 Bricker ileal conduits and 20 double-barrelled wet colostomies were included in the urinary diversion analysis. Regarding the specific short-term urinary complications, no differences were found in the rate of urinary leakage (3 vs 0 %; p = 1), urostomy complications (7 vs 0 %; p = 0.51), acute renal failure (10 vs 20 %; p = 0.24) or urinary infection (0 vs 5 %; p = 0.41). Up to 69 % of patients with Bricker ileal conduits and 65 % of double-barrelled wet colostomies (p = 0.76) presented specific medium/long-term urinary complications. No differences in the rates of pyelonephritis (59 vs 53 %; p = 0.71), urinary fistula (0 vs 12 %; p = 0.13), ureteral stricture (10 vs 6 %; p = 1), conduit failure and reconstruction (7 vs 0 %; p = 0.53), renal failure (38 vs 29 %; p = 0.56) or electrolyte disorders (24 vs 18 %; p = 0.72) were found. CONCLUSIONS There are no significant differences in the rate of complications between double-barrelled wet colostomy and the Bricker ileal conduit. The long-term complications related to urinary diversion remained high regardless of the type of technique. In this context, the double-barrelled wet colostomy presents advantages such as the single stoma placement and the simplicity of the technique.

Abstract
Quantum information applications emerged decades ago, initially introducing a parallel development that mimicked the approach and development of classical computer science. However, in the current decade, novel computer-science concepts were rapidly extended to the fields of quantum processing, computation, and communication. Thus, areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and neural networks have their quantum versions; furthermore, the quantum brain properties of learning, analyzing, and gaining knowledge are discussed. Quantum properties of matter conglomerates have been superficially explored in such terrain; however, the settlement of organized quantum systems able to perform processing can open a new pathway in the aforementioned domains. In fact, quantum processing involves certain requisites as the settlement of copies of input information to perform differentiated processing developed far away or in situ to diversify the information stored there. Both tasks at the end provide a database of outcomes with which to perform either information matching or final global processing with at least a subset of those outcomes. When the number of processing operations and input information copies is large, parallel processing (a natural feature in quantum computation due to the superposition) becomes the most convenient approach to accelerate the database settlement of outcomes, thus affording a time advantage. In the current study, we explored certain quantum features to realize a speed-up model for the entire task of processing based on a common information input to be processed, diversified, and finally summarized to gain knowledge, either in pattern matching or global information availability. By using superposition and non-local properties, the most valuable features of quantum systems, we realized parallel local processing to set a large database of outcomes and subsequently used post-selection to perform an ending global processing or a matching of information incoming from outside. We finally analyzed the details of the entire procedure, including its affordability and performance. The quantum circuit implementation, along with tentative applications, were also discussed. Such a model could be operated between large processing technological systems using communication procedures and also on a moderately controlled quantum matter conglomerate. Certain interesting technical aspects involving the non-local control of processing via entanglement were also analyzed in detail as an associated but notable premise.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed functionalization was presently performed on two building blocks: 4-oxazolin-2-ones and 4-methylene-2-oxazolidinones. Direct Heck arylation of 4-oxazolin-2-ones led to a series of 5-aryl-4-oxazolin-2-ones, including analogues with N-chiral auxiliary, in an almost quantitative yield. The Pd(II)-catalyzed homocoupling reaction of 4-oxazolin-2-ones provided novel heterocyclic across-ring dienes. Meanwhile, the intramolecular cross-coupling of N-aryl-4-methylene-2-oxazolidinones furnished a series of oxazolo[3,4-a]indol-3-ones. Further functionalization of 4-methylene-2-oxazolidinones afforded substituted indoles and heterocyclic-fused indoles with aryl, bromo, carbinol, formyl, and vinyl groups. A computational study was carried out to account for the behavior of the formylated derivatives. The currently developed methodology was applied to a new formal total synthesis of ellipticine.

Abstract
Intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) of the somatosensory cortex (S1) can restore sensory function in patients with paralysis. Studies assessing the stability of ICMS have reported heterogeneous responses across electrodes and over time, potentially hindering the implementation and translatability of these technologies. The foreign body response (FBR) and the encapsulating glial scar have been associated with a decay in chronic performance of implanted electrodes. Moreover, the morphology, intrinsic properties, and function of cells vary across cortical layers, each potentially affecting the sensitivity to ICMS as well as the degree of the FBR across cortical depth. However, layer-by-layer comparisons of the long-term stability of ICMS as well as the extent of the astrocytic glial scar change across cortical layers have not been well explored. Here, we implanted silicon microelectrodes with electrode sites spanning all the layers of S1 in rats. Using a behavioral paradigm, we obtained ICMS detection thresholds from all cortical layers for up to 40 weeks. Our results showed that the sensitivity and long-term performance of ICMS is indeed layer dependent. Overall, detection thresholds decreased during the first 7 weeks post-implantation (WPI). This was followed by a period in which thresholds remained stable or increased depending on the interfacing layer: thresholds in L1 and L6 exhibited the most consistent increases over time, while those in L4 and L5 remained the most stable. Furthermore, histological investigation of the tissue surrounding the electrode showed a biological response of microglia and macrophages which peaked at L1, while the area of the astrocytic glial scar peaked at L2/3. Interestingly, the biological response of these FBR markers is less exacerbated at L4 and L5, suggesting a potential link between the FBR and the long-term stability of ICMS. These findings suggest that interfacing depth can play an important role in the design of chronically stable implantable microelectrodes.

Abstract
Echinobase (www.echinobase.org) is a third generation web resource supporting genomic research on echinoderms. The new version was built by cloning the mature Xenopus model organism knowledgebase, Xenbase, refactoring data ingestion pipelines and modifying the user interface to adapt to multispecies echinoderm content. This approach leveraged over 15 years of previous database and web application development to generate a new fully featured informatics resource in a single year. In addition to the software stack, Echinobase uses the private cloud and physical hosts that support Xenbase. Echinobase currently supports six echinoderm species, focused on those used for genomics, developmental biology and gene regulatory network analyses. Over 38 000 gene pages, 18 000 publications, new improved genome assemblies, JBrowse genome browser and BLAST + services are available and supported by the development of a new echinoderm anatomical ontology, uniformly applied formal gene nomenclature, and consistent orthology predictions. A novel feature of Echinobase is integrating support for multiple, disparate species. New genomes from the diverse echinoderm phylum will be added and supported as data becomes available. The common code development design of the integrated knowledgebases ensures parallel improvements as each resource evolves. This approach is widely applicable for developing new model organism informatics resources.

Abstract
A straightforward synthesis of indolizines and pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazines was performed through a cascade condensation/cyclization/aromatization reaction of substituted 2-formyl-N-propargylpyrroles with active methylene compounds such as nitromethane, alkyl malonates, methyl cyanoacetate and malononitrile. Under basic conditions, the reaction proceeded satisfactorily to provide the corresponding 6,7-disubstituted indolizines. The condensation of the pyrrolic analogues with ammonium acetate gave rise to pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazines in high yields. N-Allenyl-2-formylpyrroles behaved as more reactive substrates than 2-formyl-N-propargylpyrroles, furnishing the expected indolizines in higher yields. Hence, an allenyl-containing intermediate was probably generated as the reactive species in the reaction mechanism of some N-propargyl pyrroles prior to the cyclization reaction.

Abstract
The hydrogenation of α-oximinoketones in methanol/HCl afforded α-aminoketones, which were applied without purification to the synthesis of 4-imidazolin-2-ones and 2-thiones, including chiral derivatives. The latter two series were obtained in high yields by a heteroannulation reaction of α-aminoketones with isocyanates and isothiocyanates, respectively. A double condensation of the α-aminoketones with two mol equivalents of the isocyanates produced a series of 4,5-dialkylN,3-diaryl-2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-imidazole-1-carboxamides. With isothiocyanates, a single condensation reaction furnished a series of 4,5-dialkyl-1-aryl-1H-imidazole-2(3H)-thiones, which underwent alkylation with alkyl halides to form the corresponding 1-aryl-2-thioalkyl-1H-imidazoles in high yields.

Abstract
Intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) has shown promise in restoring quality of life to patients suffering from paralysis, specifically when used in the primary somatosensory cortex (S1). However, these benefits can be hampered by long-term degradation of electrode performance due to the brain's foreign body response. Advances in microfabrication techniques have allowed for the development of neuroprostheses with subcellular electrodes, which are characterized by greater versatility and a less detrimental immune response during chronic use. These probes are hypothesized to enable more selective, higher-resolution stimulation of cortical tissue with long-term implants. However, microstimulation using physiologically relevant charges with these smaller-scale devices can damage electrode sites and reduce the efficacy of the overall device. Studies have shown promise in bypassing this limitation by spreading the stimulation charge between multiple channels in an implanted electrode array, but to our knowledge the usefulness of this strategy in laminar arrays with electrode sites spanning each layer of the cortex remains unexplored. To investigate the efficacy of simultaneous multi-channel ICMS in electrode arrays with stimulation sites spanning cortical depth, we implanted laminar electrode arrays in the primary somatosensory cortex of rats trained in a behavioral avoidance paradigm. By measuring detection thresholds, we were able to quantify improvements in ICMS performance using a simultaneous multi-channel stimulation paradigm. The charge required per site to elicit detection thresholds was halved when stimulating from two adjacent electrode sites, although the overall charge used by the implant was increased. This reduction in threshold charge was more pronounced when stimulating with more than two channels and lessened with greater distance between stimulating channels. Our findings suggest that these improvements are based on the synchronicity and polarity of each stimulus, leading us to conclude that these improvements in stimulation efficiency per electrode are due to charge summation as opposed to a summation of neural responses to stimulation. Additionally, the per-site charge reductions are seen regardless of the cortical depth of each utilized channel. This evocation of physiological detection thresholds with lower stimulation currents per electrode site has implications for the feasibility of stimulation regimes in future advanced neuroprosthetic devices, which could benefit from reducing the charge output per site.

Abstract
Chromenes are compounds that may be useful for inhibiting topoisomerase and cytochrome, enzymes involved in the growth of cancer and fungal cells, respectively. The aim of this study was to synthesize a series of some novel 2-amino-3-cyano-4-aryl-6,7-methylendioxy-4H-chromenes 4a-o and 2-amino-3-cyano-5,7-dimethoxy-4-aryl-4H-chromenes 6a-h by a three-component reaction, and test these derivatives for anticancer and antifungal activity. Compounds 4a and 4b were more active than cisplatin (9) and topotecan (7) in SK-LU-1 cells, and more active than 9 in PC-3 cells. An evaluation was also made of the series of compounds 4 and 6 as potential antifungal agents against six Candida strains, finding their MIC50 to be less than or equal to that of fluconazole (8). Molecular docking studies are herein reported, for the interaction of 4 and 6 with topoisomerase IB and the active site of CYP51 of Candida spp. Compounds 4a-o and 6a-h interacted in a similar way as 7 with key amino acids of the active site of topoisomerase IB and showed better binding energy than 8 at the active site of CYP51. Hence, 4a-o and 6a-h are good candidates for further research, having demonstrated their dual inhibition of enzymes that participate in the growth of cancer and fungal cells.

Abstract
(1) Background: Intravesical mitomycin-C (MMC) combined with hyperthermia is increasingly used in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), especially in the context of a relative BCG shortage. We aim to determine real-world data on the long-term treatment outcomes of adjunct hyperthermic intravesical chemotherapy (HIVEC) with MMC and a COMBAT® bladder recirculation system (BRS); (2) Methods: A prospective observational trial was performed on patients with NMIBC treated with HIVEC using BRS in nine academic institutions in Spain between 2012–2020 (HIVEC-E). Treatment effectiveness (recurrence, progression and overall mortality) was evaluated in patients treated with HIVEC MMC 40mg in the adjuvant setting, with baseline data and a clinical follow-up, that comprise the Full Analysis Set (FAS). Safety, according to the number and severity of adverse effects (AEs), was evaluated in the safety (SAF) population, composed by patients with at least one adjunct HIVEC MMC instillation; (3) Results: The FAS population (n = 502) received a median number of 8.78 ± 3.28 (range 1–20) HIVEC MMC instillations. The median follow-up duration was 24.5 ± 16.5 (range 1–81) months. Its distribution, based on EAU risk stratification, was 297 (59.2%) for intermediate and 205 (40.8%) for high-risk. The figures for five-year recurrence-free and progression-free survival were 50.37% (53.3% for intermediate and 47.14% for high-risk) and 89.83% (94.02% for intermediate and 84.23% for high-risk), respectively. A multivariate analysis identified recurrent tumors (HR 1.83), the duration of adjuvant HIVEC therapy <4 months (HR 1.72) and that high-risk group (HR 1.47) were at an increased risk of recurrence. Independent factors of progression were high-risk (HR 3.89), recurrent tumors (HR 3.32) and the induction of HIVEC therapy without maintenance (HR 2.37). The overall survival was determined by patient age at diagnosis (HR 3.36) and the treatment duration (HR 1.82). The SAF population (n = 592) revealed 406 (68.58%) patients without AEs and 186 (31.42%) with at least one AE: 170 (28.72%) of grade 1–2 and 16 (2.7%) of grade 3–4. The most frequent AEs were dysuria (10%), pain (7.1%), urgency (5.7%), skin rash (4.9%), spasms (3.7%) and hematuria (3.6%); (4) Conclusions: HIVEC using BRS is efficacious and well tolerated. A longer treatment duration, its use in naïve patients and the intermediate-risk disease are independent determinants of success. Furthermore, a monthly maintenance of adjunct MMC HIVEC diminishes the progression rate of NMIBC.

Abstract
AIM To analyse the safety and efficacy parameters of endovascular treatment of anterior communicating artery (ACoA) aneurysms, according to their morphological considerations and three-dimensional orientation in a multicentric registry. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective analysis was undertaken of a prospective database of consecutive patients that underwent endovascular embolisation for ACoA aneurysm in four high-volume neuroradiology interventional departments. The study has been registered in ClinicalTrial.gov. Data were collected regarding the clinico-demographic variables of the patients, anatomical variations of the circle of Willis, morphological considerations and spatial orientation of ACoA aneurysms were recorded. Safety and efficacy variables were also recorded. Associations between anatomical variations of the circle of Willis, morphological considerations, and spatial orientation of the ACoA aneurysms and safety and efficacy variables were assessed. RESULTS Data from 122 consecutive patients were collected in the MACAARET study (mean age (±SD) was 55 (±14) and 50.8% (62/122) were male). One hundred and five patients (86.1%) presented with subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH). ACoA aneurysms with a neck size of >4 mm had less chance of having successful endovascular treatment than those of ≤4 mm (19.8% versus 46.7%; p=0.002) and were also more likely to recanalise during follow-up (61.5% versus 19.5%; p=0.003). Moreover, ACoA aneurysms with an aspect ratio of >1.7 had more chance of having immediate therapeutic success than those with a ratio of ≤1.7 (70.7% versus 44.8%; p=0.012). There were no other associations between the anatomical variables of the ACoA aneurysms and the safety-efficacy variables. CONCLUSION ACoA aneurysms are suitable for both endovascular and microsurgical approaches, but more data are required to determine which is the best approach regarding the morphological and spatial orientation of the aneurysm and the anatomical variations of the circle of Willis.

Abstract
The structure of Fischer carbene complexes (FCCs) is electron deficient. If bearing an α,β-unsaturated system, it can generate a wide variety of compounds by undergoing many different transformations, including higher-order cycloadditions. The latter are described as pericyclic reactions in which more than six electrons participate. These reactions have been employed in various areas of organic synthesis, resulting in highly selective compounds with a broad range of scaffolds. The first studies on higher-order cycloadditions involving FCCs frequently yielded competing byproducts. Many groups have attempted to increase selectivity by exploring distinct reaction conditions, reagents and co-catalysts (e. g., metal-mediated cycloadditions). The present review is the first to focus exclusively on using higher-order cycloadditions involving FCCs to synthesize carbocycles and heterocycles. Based on two decades of reports, an analysis is made of the main aspects of the mechanisms proposed for higher-order cycloadditions and the structural diversity obtained by the substituent effect.

Abstract
Objective. Intracortical microstimulation of the primary somatosensory cortex (S1) has shown great progress in restoring touch sensations to patients with paralysis. Stimulation parameters such as amplitude, phase duration, and frequency can influence the quality of the evoked percept as well as the amount of charge necessary to elicit a response. Previous studies in V1 and auditory cortices have shown that the behavioral responses to stimulation amplitude and phase duration change across cortical depth. However, this depth-dependent response has yet to be investigated in S1. Similarly, to our knowledge, the response to microstimulation frequency across cortical depth remains unexplored.Approach. To assess these questions, we implanted rats in S1 with a microelectrode with electrode-sites spanning all layers of the cortex. A conditioned avoidance behavioral paradigm was used to measure detection thresholds and responses to phase duration and frequency across cortical depth.Main results. Analogous to other cortical areas, the sensitivity to charge and strength-duration chronaxies in S1 varied across cortical layers. Likewise, the sensitivity to microstimulation frequency was layer dependent.Significance. These findings suggest that cortical depth can play an important role in the fine-tuning of stimulation parameters and in the design of intracortical neuroprostheses for clinical applications.

Abstract
A highly regio-, chemo- and stereoselective divergent synthesis of isoindolo- and pyrrolo-fused polycyclic indoles is herein described, starting from 2-formylpyrrole and employing Diels-Alder and Heck arylation reactions. 3-(N-Benzyl-2-pyrrolyl)acrylates and 4-(pyrrol-2-yl)butenones underwent a highly endo-Diels-Alder cycloaddition with maleimides to furnish octahydropyrrolo[3,4-e]indoles, which served as precursors in the regioselective synthesis of aza-polycyclic skeletons via an intramolecular Heck arylation reaction. Through the latter reaction, the 3-(N-benzyl-2-pyrrolyl)acrylates give rise to 3-(pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoindol-3-yl)acrylates. A further oxidative aromatization of the polycyclic intermediates provides the corresponding polycyclic pyrrolo-isoindoles and isoindolo-pyrrolo-indoles. A theoretical study on the stereoselective Diels-Alder reactions, carried out by calculating the endo/exo transition states, revealed the assistance of non-covalent interactions in governing the endo stereocontrol.

Abstract
In this study, we acutely identified a target branch of the vagus nerve known as the pancreatic branch of the vagus nerve, which exclusively innervates the pancreas by applying electrical stimulus to the known cervical vagus nerve and observing compound neural action potentials at the target nerve. In a set of chronically implanted rats, the target nerve was again cuffed using an electrode and also implanted with a continuous glucose monitor. A model of type 1 diabetes (T1D) was chemically induced and hyperglycemic state confirmed. After induction, stimulation was applied to the pancreatic branch of the vagus nerve and heart rate variability measured to assess the targeted nature of the stimulation. Pancreatic vagus nerve stimulation in a diabetic model was not found to influence heart rate demonstrating the ability of targeted stimulation to be used as for organ-specific neuromodulation while minimizing side effects.

Abstract
Intracortical microstimulation has proven to be effective in a variety of sensory applications, such as returning touch percepts to paralyzed patients. The parameters of microstimulation play an important role in the perception quality of the stimulus. Eliciting naturalistic percepts is essential for the adaptability and functionality of this technology. Compared to the typical biphasic symmetric waveforms, asymmetric waveforms enhance activation selectivity by preferentially activating cell bodies. Behavioral studies have shown that asymmetric waveforms can elicit behavioral responses, but these require higher charges than typical symmetric waveforms. Here, we investigated the effects of phase duration and waveform asymmetry for somatosensory cortex intracortical microstimulation of freely-behaving rats. Detection thresholds were obtained using a conditioned avoidance behavioral paradigm. Our results indicate that phase duration has significant effects on threshold regardless of symmetry, polarity, and phase order of the waveform. Specifically, shorter phase durations tend to elicit lower behavioral thresholds. Analogous to studies in the auditory cortex, asymmetric waveforms in which the short pulse was cathodic were more effective than those with short-anodic pulses. With short phase durations, these short-cathodic waveforms are capable of evoking behavioral responses at low charges (<; 5 nC/Phase). Altogether, these results suggest the possibility of cell body selective microstimulation at safe thresholds, as well as the potential translatability of neuromodulation parameters across distinct sensory cortical areas.

Abstract
Eruptive activity shapes volcanic edifices. The formation of broad caldera depressions is often associated with major collapse events, emplacing conspicuous pyroclastic deposits. However, caldera subsidence may also proceed silently by magma withdrawal at depth, more difficult to detect. Ambrym, a basaltic volcanic island, hosts a 12-km wide caldera and several intensely-degassing lava lakes confined to intra-caldera cones. Using satellite remote sensing of deformation, gas emissions and thermal anomalies, combined with seismicity and ground observations, we show that in December 2018 an intra-caldera eruption at Ambrym preceded normal faulting with >2 m of associated uplift along the eastern rift zone and 2.5 m of caldera-wide subsidence. Deformation was caused by lateral migration of >0.4 cubic kilometers of magma into the rift zone, extinguishing the lava lakes, and feeding a submarine eruption in the rift edge. Recurring rifting episodes, favored by stress induced by the D’Entrecasteaux Ridge collision against the New Hebrides arc, lead to progressive subsidence of Ambrym’s caldera and concurrent draining of the lava lakes. Although counterintuitive, convergent margin systems can induce rift zone volcanism and subsequent caldera subsidence.

Abstract
Semantic interoperability issues of international e-Government data exchanges have not been solved up until now. In the case of social security institutions, the data exchange operations have some particularities that make that the non-ambiguous definition of core concepts used in the institutions has a key impact on the success and quality of system interconnections. In this article, we present the result of a research to implement a new metadata specification based in Dublin Core elements for international social security exchanges, named Exchange Social Security Information Metadata (ESSIM). This proposal is based in a semantic approach using Linked Data for Interoperability, with technologies, such as RDF(S), SPARQL, Microdata and JSON-LD, in order to ensure interoperability between social security institutions from different countries. This will help to strengthen the protection of the social security rights of mobile workers by automating the application of international agreements on social security and to improve cross border communication between social security institutions of different countries. For the near future, the goal is to include this specification as part of information and communication technology Guidelines under development by International Social Security Association with the participation of authors of this article. This will facilitate a future adoption of the specification as an international standard.

Abstract
Enantiopure 3-((R)- and 3-((S)-1-phenylethyl)-4-oxazoline-2-ones were evaluated as chiral building blocks for the divergent construction of heterocycles with stereogenic quaternary centers. The N-(R)- or N-(S)-1-phenylethyl group of these compounds proved to be an efficient chiral auxiliary for the asymmetric induction of the 4- and 5-positions of the 4-oxazolin-2-one ring through thermal and MW-promoted nucleophilic conjugated addition to Michael acceptors and alkyl halides. The resulting adducts were transformed via a cascade process into fused six-membered carbo- and heterocycles. The structure of the reaction products depended on the electrophiles and reaction conditions used. Alternative isomeric 4-methylene-2-oxazolidinones served as chiral precursors for a versatile and divergent approach to highly substituted cyclic carbamates. DFT quantum calculations showed that the formation of bicyclic pyranyl compounds was generated by a diastereoselective concerted hetero-Diels-Alder cycloaddition.

Abstract
Diagnostic tests based on cell-mediated immunity are used in programs for the control and eradication of bovine tuberculosis (bTB), which is mainly caused by Mycobacterium bovis. Additional serological assays could be performed as an ancillary method to detect an infected animal that fails to produce an immune response against the intradermal reaction (IDR), the official bTB test. In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) that uses bovine PPD as a capture antigen as a complement to the IDR in herds with confirmed cases of bTB. The study was conducted in two stages. First, a panel of 200 serum samples was analyzed by ELISA. The sensitivity and specificity obtained were 60% and 99%, respectively. The subsequent stage consisted of evaluating 7,494 bovines from 14 selected dairy farms. The number of animals yielding a IDR negative/ELISA positive result were 200. A necropsy analysis of 33 of these IDR negative/ELISA positive animals revealed that 30 (91%) presented granulomatous lesions and positive M. bovis isolation. This finding confirmed bTB in most cases. Altogether, the results obtained in the present study suggest that the combined use of IDR and ELISA is an effective strategy to improve the control of bTB in endemic herds.

Abstract
The synthesis of azetidin-2-ones with a completely heterogeneous catalysis is reported. The use of basic compounds as solid catalysts allowed for the synthesis of azetidin-2-ones under microwave irradiation without organic additives such as triethylamine. An excellent catalyst for this transformation was Mg-Al hydroxide (MAH). The present methodology offers the advantages of non-hazardous reaction conditions, short reaction times, high yields, and catalyst reusability. Different substitution groups were tested on the imines and acyl chlorides to explore the scope of the reaction. Unconventional N–C4 bond cleavage was detected in azetidin-2-ones. MAH was characterized by N2 adsorption–desorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM).

Abstract
We here describe and name a distinctive new pierid species in the subfamily Pierinae, Catasticta sibyllae Nakahara, Padrón MacDonald, n. sp. from western Panama. Catasticta. sibyllae n. sp. is known from only two male specimens collected at two sites which are approximately 130 km apart in western Panama. This new species is the only species in the genus without markings in the median area of both surfaces of forewing and hindwing, and our molecular data suggest that the Peruvian species C. lisa Baumann Reissinger, 1969 is its sister species.

Abstract
Bi-directional interfaces for peripheral nerve stimulation and recording aim to improve control and acceptance of sensorized prosthetic limbs. The implantable multimodal peripheral recording and stimulation system (IMPRESS) is an intraneural interface technology supporting a high-density transverse intrafascicular multichannel electrode (hd-TIME). Herein we report on in vivo selectivity studies using a passive hd-TIME, and computational modeling towards optimal stimulation parameters for fiber recruitment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Brainstem gliomas are aggressive and difficult to treat. Growth of these tumors may be characterized with MRI methods. PURPOSE To visualize longitudinal changes in tumor volume, vascular leakiness, and tissue microstructure in an animal model of brainstem glioma. STUDY TYPE Prospective animal model. ANIMAL MODEL Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 9) were imaged with 9L gliosarcoma cells infused into the pontine reticular formation of the brainstem. The MRI tumor microenvironment was studied at 3 and 10 days postimplantation of tumor cells. FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE)-MRI were performed at 4.7T using spin-echo multislice echo planar imaging and gradient echo multislice imaging, respectively. ASSESSMENT Tumor leakiness was assessed by the forward volumetric transfer constant, Ktrans , estimated from DCE-MRI data. Tumor structure was evaluated with fractional anisotropy (FA) obtained from DTI. Tumor volumes, delineated by a T1 map, T2 -weighted image, FA, and DCE signal enhancement were compared. STATISTICAL TESTS Changes in the assessed parameters within and across the groups (ie, rats 3 and 10 days post tumor cell implantation) were evaluated with Wilcoxon rank-sum tests. RESULTS Day 3 tumors were visible mainly on contrast-enhanced images, while day 10 tumors were visible in both contrast-enhanced and diffusion-weighted images. Mean Ktrans at day 10 was 41% lower than at day 3 (P = 0.23). In day 10 tumors, FA was regionally lower in the tumor compared to normal tissue (P = 0.0004), and tumor volume, segmented based on FA map, was significantly smaller (P ≤ 0.05) than that obtained from other contrasts. DATA CONCLUSION Contrast-enhanced MRI was found to be more sensitive in detecting early-stage tumor boundaries than other contrasts. Areas of the tumor outlined by DCE-MRI and DTI were significantly different. Over the observed period of tumor growth, average vessel leakiness decreased with tumor progression. Abstract
We study entanglement properties of generic three-qubit pure states. First, we obtain the distributions of both the coefficients and the only phase in the five-term decomposition of Acín et al. for an ensemble of random pure states generated by the Haar measure on U(8). Furthermore, we analyze the probability distributions of two sets of polynomial invariants. One of these sets allows us to classify three-qubit pure states into four classes. Entanglement in each class is characterized using the minimal Rényi-Ingarden-Urbanik entropy. Besides, the fidelity of a three-qubit random state with the closest state in each entanglement class is investigated. We also present a characterization of these classes in terms of the corresponding entanglement polytope. The entanglement classes related to stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) are analyzed as well from this geometric perspective. The numerical findings suggest some conjectures relating some of those invariants with entanglement properties to be ground in future analytical work.

Abstract
Whether via cuff or intrafascicular electrode, peripheral neural stimulations often rely on symmetric, charge balanced paradigms. To date, few investigations have been carried out which systematically decompose the features of a stimulus waveform. Factors such as pulse-width, amplitude, and the timing with which they are presented may have significant effects on the quality of the stimuli. This work seeks to fill this gap in knowledge and share insight into how selection of electrical stimuli may affect the resultant neural activation in peripheral nerves. In particular, we found that, although there is some variance, over the parameter range tested there was not a significant effect on neural fiber recruitment percent due to waveform selection.

Abstract
An efficient and alternative synthesis of exo-imidazolidin-2-one dienes is described. A condensation reaction was carried out with bis-imino derivatives, diacetyl, and triphosgene, affording symmetrically N, N-disubstituted dienes. The use of alkyl methyl α-diketones led to the formation of nonsymmetrical dienes, which underwent isomerization to provide more stable inner-outer-ring dienes under Lewis acid conditions. Evaluation was made of the reactivity as well as regio- and stereoselectivity of these dienes in Diels-Alder reactions. They proved to be highly reactive and selective. DFT calculations of the transition states accounted for their behavior.
