Abstract
To achieve its carbon peaking and carbon neutrality objectives, China is committed to promoting a decarbonized energy transition, which has strengthened the shift from coal to oil and gas resources. As a result, methane (CH4) fugitive emissions from China's oil and gas systems are of increasing concern. Fugitive emissions include equipment leaks, venting, and flaring and involve exploration, production, transportation, storage, and distribution of oil and gas resources. However, there is no uniform accounting method for methane fugitive emissions from oil and gas systems, and fugitive emissions have not been included in the national greenhouse gas inventory statistics. Using the relevant methods, methane fugitive emissions from China's oil and gas systems were estimated for the period from 1980-2020. The results showed that CH4 fugitive emissions from oil and gas systems increased rapidly with the growth of production and consumption of oil and gas resources, from less than 0.6 million tons in 1980 to more than 2.6 million tons in 2020. CH4 fugitive emissions from oil and gas systems reached approximately 0.6 million tons and 2.0 million tons, which were 1.38 and 16.6 times larger than those in 1980, respectively. Fugitive emissions from oil and gas systems originated primarily from gas production, oil production, gas transportation, and storage, accounting for 41%, 20%, 18%, and 13% of total emissions, respectively. Gas pipelines were the main fugitive facilities. The emission intensity of unconventional oil and gas resource exploration was higher compared to conventional resource exploration. This study improved the CH4 fugitive emission inventory, which could provide solid scientific data for CH4 reduction.

TLR4-HMGB1-, MyD88- and TRIF-dependent signaling in mouse intestinal ischemia/reperfusion injury. World J Gastroenterol 2015; 21:8314-8325. [PMID: 26217083 PMCID: PMC4507101 DOI: 10.3748/wjg.v21.i27.8314] [Citation(s) in RCA: 35] [Impact Index Per Article: 3.9] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 12/22/2014] [Accepted: 05/21/2015] [Indexed: 02/06/2023] Open
Abstract
AIM: To characterize high-mobility group protein 1-toll-like receptor 4 (HMGB1-TLR4) and downstream signaling pathways in intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury.
METHODS: Forty specific-pathogen-free male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into five groups (n = 8 per group): sham, control, anti-HMGB1, anti-myeloid differentiation gene 88 (MyD88), and anti-translocating-chain-associating membrane protein (TRIF) antibody groups. Vehicle with the control IgG antibody, anti-HMGB1, anti-MyD88, or anti-TRIF antibodies (all 1 mg/kg, 0.025%) were injected via the caudal vein 30 min prior to ischemia. After anesthetization, the abdominal wall was opened and the superior mesenteric artery was exposed, followed by 60 min mesenteric ischemia and then 60 min reperfusion. For the sham group, the abdominal wall was opened for 120 min without I/R. Levels of serum nuclear factor (NF)-κB p65, interleukin (IL)-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α were measured, along with myeloperoxidase activity in the lung and liver. In addition, morphologic changes that occurred in the lung and intestinal tissues were evaluated. Levels of mRNA transcripts encoding HMGB1 and NF-κB were measured by real-time quantitative PCR, and levels of HMGB1 and NF-κB protein were measured by Western blot. Results were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance.
RESULTS: Blocking HMGB1, MyD88, and TRIF expression by injecting anti-HMGB1, anti-MyD88, or anti-TRIF antibodies prior to ischemia reduced the levels of inflammatory cytokines in serum; NF-κB p65: 104.64 ± 11.89, 228.53 ± 24.85, 145.00 ± 33.63, 191.12 ± 13.22, and 183.73 ± 10.81 (P < 0.05); IL-6: 50.02 ± 6.33, 104.91 ± 31.18, 62.28 ± 6.73, 85.90 ± 17.37, and 78.14 ± 7.38 (P < 0.05); TNF-α, 43.79 ± 4.18, 70.81 ± 6.97, 52.76 ± 5.71, 63.19 ± 5.47, and 59.70 ± 4.63 (P < 0.05) for the sham, control, anti-HMGB1, anti-MyD88, and anti-TRIF groups, respectively (all in pg/mL).Antibodies also alleviated tissue injury in the lung and small intestine compared with the control group in the mouse intestinal I/R model. The administration of anti-HMGB1, anti-MyD88, and anti-TRIF antibodies markedly reduced damage caused by I/R, for which anti-HMGB1 antibody had the most obvious effect.
CONCLUSION: HMGB1 and its downstream signaling pathway play important roles in the mouse intestinal I/R injury, and the effect of the TRIF-dependent pathway is slightly greater.

Abstract
Early warning of pollution incidents caused by persistent organic pollutants (POPs) is urgently needed for China in the circumstances of serious POPs pollution and in increasing demand for improvement in chemical risk management. Given different categories of POPs and pollution incidents, the index system for early warning of POPs pollution accidents was built based on lifecycle theory and POPs formation mechanisms. It will be helpful for decision makers to enhance the early warning management of POPs pollution incidents in China. The index system for early warning includes two parts, early warning and mechanism for system operation. The indices include risk source indicators, warning indicators and warning level indicators. To ensure the effective implementation of this system, the mechanisms for response and policy guarantee were also formulated. These mechanisms contain dynamic inventory management and periodical assessment of risk sources, timely and effective report of warning conditions, as well as coordination and cooperation among the relevant departments.

[Risk communication in construction of new nuclear power plant]. HUAN JING KE XUE= HUANJING KEXUE 2013; 34:1218-1224. [PMID: 23745437] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 06/02/2023]
Abstract
Accompanied by construction of new nuclear power plants in the coming decades in China, risk management has become increasingly politicized and contentious. Nuclear risk communication is a critical component in helping individuals prepare for, respond to, and recover from nuclear power emergencies. It was discussed that awareness of trust and public attitudes are important determinants in nuclear power risk communication and management. However, there is limited knowledge about how to best communicate with at-risk populations around nuclear power plant in China. To bridge this gap, this study presented the attitudinal data from a field survey in under-building Haiyang nuclear power plant, Shandong Province to measure public support for and opposition to the local construction of nuclear power plant. The paper discussed the structure of the communication process from a descriptive point of view, recognizing the importance of trust and understanding the information openness. The results showed that decision-making on nuclear power was dominated by a closed "iron nuclear triangle" of national governmental agencies, state-owned nuclear enterprises and scientific experts. Public participation and public access to information on nuclear constructions and assessments have been marginal and media was a key information source. As information on nuclear power and related risks is very restricted in China, Chinese citizens (51%) tend to choose the government as the most trustworthy source. More respondents took the negative attitudes toward nuclear power plant construction around home. It drew on studies about risk communication to develop some guidelines for successful risk communication. The conclusions have vast implications for how we approach risk management in the future. The findings should be of interest to state and local emergency managers, community-based organizations, public health researchers, and policy makers.

Abstract
AIM: To investigate the impact of intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and lymph drainage on distant organs in rats.
METHODS: Thirty-two Sprague-Dawley male rats, weighing 280-320 g, were randomly divided into blank, sham, I/R, and ischemia/reperfusion and drainage (I/R + D) groups (n = 8). All rats were subjected to 60 min ischemia by clamping the superior mesenteric artery, followed by 120 min reperfusion. The rats in the I/R + D group received intestinal lymph drainage for 180 min. In the sham group, the abdominal cavity was opened for 180 min, but the rats received no treatment. The blank group served as a normal and untreated control. A chromogenic limulus assay kit was used for quantitative detection of serum endotoxin. The serum concentrations of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β, soluble cell adhesion molecules (sICAM-1), and high mobility group protein box 1 (HMGB1) were determined with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. Histological evaluations of the intestine, liver, kidney, and lung were performed by hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunohistochemistry. HMGB1 protein expression was assayed by western blot analysis.
RESULTS: The serum levels of endotoxin and HMGB1 in the I/R and I/R + D groups were significantly higher than those in the sham group (endotoxin, I/R and I/R + D vs sham: 0.033 ± 0.004 EU/mL, 0.024 ± 0.003 EU/mL vs 0.017 ± 0.009 EU/mL, respectively, P < 0.05; HMGB1, I/R and I/R + D vs sham: 5.473 ± 0.963 EU/mL, 4.906 ± 0.552 EU/mL vs 0.476 ± 0.406 EU/mL, respectively, P < 0.05). In addition, endotoxin and HMGB1 were significantly lower in the I/R + D group compared to the I/R group (P < 0.05). The serum inflammatory factors IL-6, IL-1β, and sICAM-1 in the I/R and I/R + D groups were significantly higher than those in the sham group (IL-6, I/R and I/R + D vs sham: 41.773 ± 9.753 pg/mL, 19.204 ± 4.136 pg/mL vs 11.566 ± 2.973 pg/mL, respectively, P < 0.05; IL-1β, I/R and I/R + D vs sham: 144.646 ± 29.378 pg/mL, 65.829 ± 10.888 pg/mL vs 38.178 ± 7.157 pg/mL, respectively, P < 0.05; sICAM-1, I/R and I/R + D vs sham: 97.360 ± 12.714 ng/mL, 48.401 ± 6.547 ng/mL vs 33.073 ± 5.957 ng/mL, respectively; P < 0.05). The serum TNF-α in the I/R group were significantly higher than in the sham group (45.863 ± 11.553 pg/mL vs 18.863 ± 6.679 pg/mL, respectively, P < 0.05). These factors were significantly lower in the I/R + D group compared to the I/R group (P < 0.05). The HMGB1 immunohistochemical staining results showed no staining or apparent injury in the blank group, and slight staining at the top of the microvillus was detected in the sham group. In the I/R group, both the top of villi and the basement membrane were stained for HMGB1 in most areas, and injury in the I/R + D group was less than that in the I/R group. HMGB1 expression in the liver, kidney, and lung of rats in the I/R + D group was significantly lower than the rats in the I/R group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION: Lymph drainage could block the “gut-lymph” pathway, improve intestinal barrier function, and attenuate distant organ injury incurred by intestinal I/R.

Abstract
Environmental information disclosure is seen as a creative approach in environmental governance worldwide. Environmental Information Disclosure Decree 2008 (EIDD) was regarded as a milestone of right-to-know and public participation in environmental protection in China. Environmental information disclosure can improve the intercommunication between the government and public, and also speed up the transition from conventional government-dominated environmental regulation to a more transparent and modern environmental governance system in China. Aiming to explore the effectiveness of EIDD implementation by environmental agencies, this study conducted the website interviews, the practical information disclosure requests, and telephone interviews with officers from environmental agencies in 31 provinces, 5 cities with independent budgetary status, and 27 provincial capital cities in 2010. It is concluded that the implementation of the Environmental Information Disclosure system has been improving over past two years but still far from being widespread, full and effective. The lack of enforcement and the ambiguity of some clauses in EIDD give environmental agencies great discretion to avoid disclosure and discourage enforcement of environmental information disclosure.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of lymphatic drainage and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (omega-3PUFA) on high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), inflammatory cytokines and endotoxin in rats with intestinal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. METHODS A total of 72 SD rats were randomly divided into drainage-alone group, I/R group, ischemia-reperfusion plus drainage (I/R + D) group (n = 8 each) and 3 groups with 16 rats undergoing gastrostomy in each group: normal diet (N) group, enteral nutrition (EN) group and enteral nutrition & omega-3PUFA (PUFA) group. And they were further divided into 2 subgroups (n = 8). The rats in I/R and I/R + D groups were subjected to a 60-min ischemia follow by 120-min reperfusion injury of superior mesenteric artery. When the rats suffered I/R injury, intestinal lymph was drained for 180 min in the I/R + D group. The rats in the drainage-alone group received 180-min lymph drainage without I/R injury. After 5 days with different nutrition regimes, the models were established similarly. The rats in the I/R + D sub-groups were treated with intestinal lymph drainage for 180 min. The serum and lymph samples were collected post-operatively. Endotoxin was detected by a Limulus kit. The inflammatory cytokines and high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS Endotoxin, inflammatory cytokines and lymphatic HMGB1 of lymphatic in the I/R + D group were higher than those in the drainage-alone group [all P < 0.05, IL-6: (30 +/- 8) pg/ml vs (20 +/- 6) pg/ml, endotoxin: (0.029 +/- 0.011) U/ml vs (0.008 +/- 0.005) U/ml]. The serum levels of endotoxin and inflammatory cytokines in the I/R + D group were lower than those in the I/R group (P < 0.05). The lymphatic levels of TNF-alpha (tumor necrosis factor-alpha) and HMGB1 in the N and EN groups were higher than those in the PUFA group[ TNF-alpha: (46 +/- 17) pg/ml, (54 +/- 16) pg/ml vs (28 +/- 9) pg/ml, HMGB1: (4.8 +/- 1.6) ng/ml, (5.3 +/- 1.8) ng/ml, (3.0 +/- 1.0) ng/ml, all P < 0.05)]. The serum levels of endotoxin, inflammatory cytokines and HMGB1 in the PUFA (I/R) group were lower than those in the N (I/R) group (P < 0.05). The levels of TNF-alpha and HMGB1 were lower in the PUFA (I/R + D) group than those in the N (I/R + D) group (both P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Lymphatic drainage may reduce the levels of endotoxin, inflammatory cytokines and HMGB1 so as to alleviate the intestinal I/R injury. The intervention of omega-3PUFA has some protective effect through relieving inflammation.

Quantitative studies of the distribution pattern for Salmonella Enteritidis in the internal organs of chicken after oral challenge by a real-time PCR. Vet Res Commun 2010; 34:669-76. Abstract
This research was undertaken to identify and understand the regular distribution pattern for Salmonella Enteritidis (S. enteritidis) in the internal organs of chicken after oral challenge over a 3 wk period. We used a real-time, fluorescence-based quantitative polymerase chain reaction (FQ-PCR) to detect genomic DNA of S. enteritidis in the blood and the internal organs, including heart, liver, spleen, kidney, pancreas, and gallbladder, from chicken after oral challenge at different time points. The results showed that the spleen was positive at 12 h post inoculation (PI), and the blood was at 14 h PI. The organism was detected in the liver and heart at 16 h PI, pancrea was positive at 20 h PI, and the final organ to show a positive results were the kidney and gallbladder at 22 h PI. The copy number of S. enteritidis DNA in each tissue reached a peak at 24 h-36 h PI, with the liver and spleen containing high concentrations of S. enteritidis, whereas the blood, heart, kidney, pancreas, and gallbladder had low concentrations. S. enteritidis populations began to decrease and were not detectable at 3 d PI, but were still present up to 12 d PI in the gallbladder, 2 wk for the liver, and 3 wk for the spleen without causing apparent symptoms. The results showed that the liver and spleen may be the primary sites for S. enteritidis setting itself up as a commensa over a long time after oral challenge. Interestingly, it may be the first time reported that the gallbladder is a site of carriage for S. enteritidis over a 12 d period. This study will help to understand the mechanisms of action of S. enteritidis infection in vivo.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To set up a method for the drainage of lymph fluid and explore the change of active materials in lymph fluid and serum after rat ischemia-reperfusion injury. METHODS The method of the drainage of lymph fluid was well established. Sixteen healthy male rats of SPF grade were selected and randomly divided into 2 groups: intestinal ischemia-reperfusion + drainage group (I/R + drainage group) and drainage group. All the rats were subjected to superior mesenteric artery occlusion for 60 minutes, followed by 120 minutes of reperfusion. We compared the change of high mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) protein, endotoxin tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin (IL) -1 beta, IL-6, and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecular-1 (sICAM-1) by draining lymph fluid and collecting serum in 2 groups. RESULTS The drainage of lymph fluid was successfully performed. The HMGB1, endotoxin, and cytokines in serum and lymph fluid were significantly higher in ischemia-reperfusion group than in drainage group (P < 0. 05). CONCLUSIONS The method for drainage of lymph fluid is simple and feasible. Endotoxin, HMGB1, and some cytokines in serum and lymph fluid may mediate the ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the feasibility of noninvasive quantification of the metabolic changes of glutamine (Gln) and glutamate (Glu) in the skeletal muscles caused by abdominal surgery with proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). METHODS Abdominal surgery were performed on 15 healthy Zelanian rabbits. MRS data, blood specimens, and muscular tissues were obtained on the day before surgery and the second day after surgery. MRS data included peak amplitude and peak area of Gln + Glu (Glx) and total creatine (TCr). The reproducibility of peak amplitude with peak area was compared and the better one was chosen to calculate the ratio of Glx to TCr. Free Gln and Glu concentrations in serum and muscles were analyzed by reversed phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). The results of MRS were compared with those of RP-HPLC to evaluate the feasibility of MRS application in Gln and Glu metabolism. RESULTS Peak amplitude had better reproducibility than peak area under our conditions. The coefficient of variation (CV) of the ratio of the amplitude of Glx to TCr was (15.62 +/- 9.87)%. The ratio of the amplitude of Glx to TCr significantly decreased on the second day after surgery (P <0.05, P <0.01). The mean free Glx concentrations in both the serum and the muscles different were not significant between on the second day after surgery and on the day before surgery. CONCLUSIONS The results of MRS application in reflecting the effects of surgical trauma on muscular Glx metabolism are consistent with those of RP-HPLC. It is feasible to apply MRS in the study of muscular Gln and Glu metabolism.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the maltose clearance in plasma and urine of healthy volunteers with high-performance liquid chromatography. METHODS Maltose solution was infused to 12 healthy volunteers during a 4-hour period at an infusion rate of 0.2, 0.3, and 0.5 g/(kg x h), Plasma and urine specimens were collected at different time points before and after infusion, and then analyzed with high-performance liquid chromatography. RESULTS The coefficients of variation of the precision and accuracy of the analysis method ranged 3.68%-4.58% and 0.44%-4.83% for plasma, respectively, and 2.91%-7.62% and 0.95%-8.27% for urine, respectively. The plasma maltose concentration increased in a dose-dependent manner (r > 0.99). The plasma maltose concentrations returned to the baseline levels 12 hours later. Two hours after injection, the urinary excretion of maltose increased, reached the peak value within 2-4 hours, began to decrease 6 hours later, and became zero 24 hours later. CONCLUSIONS An infusion rate of 0.2-0.5 g/(kg x h) of maltose will not remarkably increase the blood glucose level in healthy people. The routine infusion rate should below 0.3 g/(kg x h), unless an emergency exists.

Abstract
The dissociation of energy-selected ND(3) (+) to form ND(2) (+)+D near its threshold has been investigated using the pulsed field ionization-photoelectron (PFI-PE)-photoion coincidence method. The breakdown curves for ND(3) (+) and ND(2) (+) give a value of 15.891+/-0.001 eV for the 0 K dissociation threshold or appearance energy (AE) for ND(2) (+) from ND(3). We have also measured the PFI-PE vibrational bands for ND(3) (+)(X;v(2) (+)=0, 1, 2, and 3), revealing partially resolved rotational structures. The simulation of these bands yields precise ionization energies (IEs) for ND(3) (+) X(0,v(2) (+)=0-3,0,0)<--ND(3) X(0,0,0,0). Using the 0 K AE (ND(2) (+)) and IE(ND(3))=10.200+/-0.001 eV determined in the present study, together with the known 0 K bond dissociation energy for ND(3) [D(0)(D-ND(2))=4.7126+/-0.0025 eV], we have determined the D(0)(ND(2) (+)-D), IE(ND(2)), and 0 K heat of formation for ND(2) (+) to be 5.691+/-0.001 eV, 11.1784+/-0.0025 eV, and 1261.82+/-0.4 kJ/mol, respectively. The PFI-PE spectrum is found to exhibit a steplike feature near the AE(ND(2) (+)), indicating that the dissociation of excited ND(3) (+) at energies slightly above the dissociation threshold is prompt, occurring in the time scale </=10(-7) s, as observed for the NH(3) system. The available energetic data for the NH(2)-NH(2) (+) and NH(3)-NH(3) (+) system are found to be in excellent accord with those for the ND(2)-ND(2) (+) and ND(3)-ND(3) (+) system after taking into account the zero-point vibrational energy corrections. This finding indicates that the thermochemical data for these two systems are reliable with well-founded error limits.

Abstract
The tolerability and pharmacokinetics of Ro 64-0802, a potent, selective inhibitor of influenza neuraminidase, and its oral prodrug oseltamivir were investigated in three double-blind, placebo-controlled studies. Two studies involved healthy adult volunteers (18-55 years) (n = 48) who received single (20-1000 mg) or bid doses (50-500 mg) (n = 32) of oseltamivir or placebo for 7 days. Healthy elderly volunteers (> or = 65 years) (n = 24) received oseltamivir 100 to 200 mg bid or placebo for 7 days in a third study. Measurable plasma concentrations of the active metabolite appeared rapidly in plasma and were significantly higher and longer lasting than those of oseltamivir. Pharmacokinetics of both compounds were linear. Multiple-dose exposure was predictable from single-dose data, and steady-state plasma concentrations were achieved within 3 days of bid drug administration. Oseltamivir was well tolerated at single doses of up to 1000 mg and twice-daily doses of up to 500 mg. Adverse events were mild in intensity. Exposure to both prodrug and active metabolite was increased in elderly patients by approximately 25%. However, due to the wide safety margin of both compounds, no dose adjustment is necessary for elderly patients.

Abstract
Chemotherapy might damage intestinal barrier function (IBF). The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of dietary fiber on IBF of 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) stressed rats. Thirty Wistar rats after gastrostomy were assigned randomly to one of three groups (10 of each group), Chow, enteral nutrition (EN), or EN+Fiber (2 g/100 ml solution). They kept their diets respectively for 8 days. 5-Fu (75 mg/kg body weight) was injected intraperitoneally on day 4. Urinary recovery ratios of lactulose and mannitol (L%/M%) were measured on day 3 and day 7. The mesenteric lymph nodes were harvested for bacterial translocation (BT). On day 8, small intestine and colon were taken for wet weight, mucosal thickness of both small intestine and colon and villus height of small intestine. The BT rates of Chow and EN+Fiber groups (20% for both) were lower than that of EN group (70%) (P<0.05). The L%/M% of both EN+Fiber (from 0.0265+/-0.0073 to 0.0274+/-0.0068) and Chow groups (from 0.0268+/-0.0039 to 0.0281+/-0. 0044) were unchanged after stress (P>0.05 for both), whereas that of EN group significantly increased (from 0.0289+/-0.0070 to 0.0331+/-0. 0084) (P<0.01). Chow group gained body weight (4.9+/-4.3 g). EN+Fiber group lost less body weight (-3.1+/-3.4 g) than EN group (-6.6+/-5.2 g) (P<0.05). The intestinal structure of Chow and EN+Fiber groups was superior to that of EN group. In conclusion, dietary fiber could protect the IBF of 5-Fu stressed rats.

Abstract
We studied the T lymphocyte transformation and IL-2's functions induced by anti-CD3 mAb in 42 cases of CPHD. The T lymphocyte transformation, activity of IL-2 and expression of IL-2R were determined by 3H-TDR incorporation, bioassay and immunoabsorption methods. The results showed that PBL transformation and activity of IL-2 were decreased in the patients of acute exacerbation stage more than those in controls and remission stage (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01); activity of IL-2 in the patients of remission stage was close to that in controls (P > 0.05), but PBL transformation was still less than that in controls (P < 0.01); Expression of IL-1R were increased in the patients more than in controls (P < 0.01). G.I of anti-CD3mAb and PHA stimulating PBL proliferation showed positive correlation (P < 0.01), activity of IL-2 and expression of IL-2R were not correlated (P > 0.05). The results showed that extrinsic IL-2 could enhance PBL proliferations induced by anti-CD3mAb, especially in CPHD patients.

Abstract
For the first time, we determined the levels of FDP in phlegm of the patients with chronic cor pulmonale and normal subjects by the TRCHII with the McAbs. Antihuman FDP McAb was applied the clinic, hence, the specificity and sensitivity of TRCHII method for detecting FDP was increased, facilitating clinical application. The results showed that the FDP level of the patients was significantly higher than that of normal subjects (P less than 0.05), but there was no significant difference between the levels of the patients of acute stage and those of remission stage. (P greater than 0.05). The main reason for the increased FDP levels in the phlegm of the patients with chronic cor pulmonale is probably due to the pathological change of the disease-recurrent infections, anoxemia, hypercoagulability and so on. The detection of FDP is helpful for the diagnosis, treatment, evaluation of prognosis of the disease. It provides an index for the observation of tissue damage of lung, especially the damage of capillary endothelia of the lung.

Abstract
A prospective, randomized clinical study was performed in patients underwent subtotal gastrectomy or hemicolectomy. Patients were randomly divided into two groups receiving standard amino acid solution (23% BCAA) or a solution enriched with branched chain amino acid (41% BCAA). Preoperative postprandial plasma amino acid levels were used as base line. The amino acid concentrations in plasma between control group (A) and study group (B) were compared during perioperative period. The dynamics of postoperative plasma amino acid profile of the two groups were similar except that plasma BCAA concentrations were very high in group B. In both groups, the levels of plasma glutamine, alanine, tyrosine, lysine, threonine, arginine, asparagine, and cystine decreased, whereas the levels of plasma methionine, phenylalanine, and tryptophan increased. The solution of 41% BCAA was not found to be superior to standard 23% BCAA in normalizing the disorder of plasma amino acid spectrum during the period of TPN support. The differences of urinary amino acid excretion including 3-MHIS and nitrogen balance between the two groups were not statistically significant. Also the results showed more severe disorder of plasma amino acid profile caused by 41% BCAA solution than by standard solution of 23% BCAA.

Low-dose growth hormone and hypocaloric nutrition attenuate the protein-catabolic response after major operation. Ann Surg 1989; 210:513-24; discussion 524-5. Abstract
To determine the effects of low-dose recombinant human growth hormone (GH) and hypocaloric nutrition on postoperative convalescence, we performed a placebo-controlled randomized double-blind trial in 18 patients after elective gastrectomy or colectomy. The subjects received parenteral nutrition containing 20 calories/kg per day and 1 g protein/kg per day. Daily injections of drug or placebo were given during the first postoperative week. The nine control subjects lost 3.3 kg (5.9% of preoperative weight) and had a cumulative nitrogen loss of 32.6 +/- 4.2 g nitrogen at eight days. The patients receiving GH lost significantly less weight (1.3 kg) and nitrogen loss was 7.1 +/- 3.1 g at eight days (p less than 0.001). Kinetic studies demonstrated that the anabolic effects of GH were associated with increased protein synthesis, and amino acid flux studies across the forearm revealed increased uptake of amino acid nitrogen in the GH-treated patients. Body compositional analysis revealed that the patients receiving GH maintained their lean body mass despite the major surgical procedure. Analysis of hand grip force showed a 10% loss of strength in the control subjects; with GH the patients maintained their grip force throughout the postoperative period. We conclude that the postoperative catabolic response can be modified with GH and hypocaloric nutrition. These metabolic and physiologic effects should now be studied in a larger number of patients to determine if this approach can reduce morbidity, mortality, and length of hospital stay for surgical patients.
