Abstract
The Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory (RST) is a widely studied psychobiological model of personality. RST factors seem to influence eating behavior, but how these personality traits are associated with distinct features of eating behavior is still unclear. In the present systematic review, we analyzed the relationship between RST personality factors and eating behavior using a parsing approach in which BMI-related results, self-reported results, and behavioral results were distinguished. Our analysis revealed that reward and punishment sensitivity seem to correlate and influence distinct features of eating behavior. The association between BMI and RST factors was uncertain, but nonlinear associations between reward sensitivity and weight need further testing. Reward sensitivity was linked to most eating behavior phenotypes (e.g., emotional eating and restrained eating), but only punishment sensitivity was primarily correlated with eating pathology. Reward sensitivity was the main factor linked with reactivity to food stimuli on many behavioral measures. The neurobiological personality factors of RST offer parsimonious concepts to understand eating behavior outcomes and the differential relationships observed are useful to translational research.

Abstract
In the development of cell-based medicinal products, it is crucial to guarantee that the application of such an advanced therapy medicinal product (ATMP) is safe for the patients. The consensus of the European regulatory authorities is: "In conclusion, on the basis of the state of art, conventional karyotyping can be considered a valuable and useful technique to analyse chromosomal stability during preclinical studies". 408 chondrocyte samples (84 monolayers and 324 spheroids) from six patients were analysed using trypsin-Giemsa staining, spectral karyotyping and fluorescence in situ hybridisation, to evaluate the genetic stability of chondrocyte samples from non-clinical studies. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array analysis was performed on chondrocyte spheroids from five of the six donors. Applying this combination of techniques, the genetic analyses performed revealed no significant genetic instability until passage 3 in monolayer cells and interphase cells from spheroid cultures at different time points. Clonal occurrence of polyploid metaphases and endoreduplications were identified associated with prolonged cultivation time. Also, gonosomal losses were observed in chondrocyte spheroids, with increasing passage and duration of the differentiation phase. Interestingly, in one of the donors, chromosomal aberrations that are also described in extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma were identified. The SNP array analysis exhibited chromosomal aberrations in two donors and copy neutral losses of heterozygosity regions in four donors. This study showed the necessity of combined genetic analyses at defined cultivation time points in quality studies within the field of cell therapy.

Abstract
In the first paper of this series, it was pointed out that one of the reasons why McDougall's theory of drug action and personality was not accepted at all widely was connected with the fact that he failed to provide an objective, experimental test which could be used to diagnose extraversion-introversion, and to assess drug effects. This argument is not entirely correct; McDougall did in fact suggest one such test, namely the rate of fluctuation of so-called reversible perspective figures. Many varieties of these are known, and have been used experimentally; the Necker cube, the staircase, the vase-face, and the windmill patterns being probably the best known. In all of these, there is an ambiguity in the drawing which makes it possible to perceive two distinct patterns in the stimulus; on prolonged inspection these patterns alternate, and it is the rate of alternation, signalled verbally or by suitable mechanical arrangement, which constitutes the score on this test. It is known that different types of pattern give reasonably reliable scores, and also that rates of alternation on different patterns correlate quite highly together, thus demonstrating that one and the same tendency is being measured. That this tendency is of central rather than peripheral character is indicated by the fact that changes in the rate of reversal due to fatigue and other causes can be transferred from one eye to the other.

Abstract
It is a well-known principle in psychology that the effects of sensory stimulation do not cease when the stimulus itself ceases. The so-called visual after-images are probably the best known of these after-effects, but almost equally well known are those induced by a rotating spiral. If a normal person fixates the centre of the rotating spiral for a period of time, and if then the motion of this spiral is suddenly stopped, an after-sensation of movement is well nigh universal. This after-sensation is opposite to the original motion in direction, just as the after-image produced by the fixation of a colour is usually the complementary colour to that which caused the original perception. There is little doubt that while peripheral factors play some part in these after-effects, central features also play a part, and it becomes tempting, therefore, to use phenomena of this type in attempts to verify or disprove the drug action hypotheses advanced by one of us in a previous paper. This hypothesis stated that stimulant drugs increased excitatory potential and decreased inhibitory potential, while depressant drugs decreased excitatory potential and increased inhibitory potential. The question now arises as to how this general postulate can be applied to the phenomena under discussion.

Abstract
The complement cascade has been implicated in ischemia/reperfusion injury, and recent studies have shown that complement inhibition is a promising treatment option for acute stroke. The development of clinically useful therapies has been hindered, however, by insufficient understanding of which complement subcomponents contribute to post-ischemic injury. To address this issue, we subjected mice deficient in selected complement proteins (C1q, C3, C5) to transient focal cerebral ischemia. Of the strains investigated, only C3-/- mice were protected, as demonstrated by 34% reductions in both infarct volume (P<0.01) and neurological deficit score (P<0.05). C3-deficient mice also manifested decreased granulocyte infiltration (P<0.02) and reduced oxidative stress (P<0.05). Finally, administration of a C3a-receptor antagonist resulted in commensurate neurological improvement and stroke volume reduction (P<0.05). Together, these results establish C3 activation as the key constituent in complement-related inflammatory tissue injury following stroke and suggest a C3a anaphylatoxin-mediated mechanism.

Abstract
A mathematical model of the reaction between primary antibody and epitope is described using the Law of Mass Action to define the reaction quantitatively. The model explains some of the peculiar properties of immunohistochemical preparations. It also predicts that antibody excess over epitope will not increase staining intensity for very avid primary antibodies. This property can be exploited to measure the amount of epitope in histological sections. The assumptions of the model are not specific to immunohistochemistry, and such reasoning should be widely applicable to tests based on highly avid detection systems with high amplification of the initial signal.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Two male infants with partial trisomy 22 resulting from a rearrangement between chromosomes 11/22 and 16/22 were admitted to the Children's Hospital of the University of Leipzig within the space of two months. The characteristic phenotype of the infants is described and compared with the data on liveborn infants with trisomy 22, as reported in the literature. One of the infants reported here showed a prenatally detected hygroma colli. To the best of our knowledge this is the first description of a hygroma colli in this chromosomal disorder. CONCLUSION Infants with trisomy 22 can present with variable phenotypes. It is important to bear the phenotype of chromosome 22 infants in mind.

Abstract
A case of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) that was investigated with a broad spectrum of cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic techniques is reported. The results of cytogenetic studies, interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization, comparative genomic hybridization, and spectral karyotyping (SKY) are reported. Various structural chromosomal aberrations were identified, among which aberrations involving chromosome arm 2p were especially frequent. Using SKY, six translocations not previously described in GBM are reported.

Abstract
A 12-year 9-month-old boy with postnatal growth retardation, normal psychomotor development, and minor anomalies that included a triangular-shaped face, small nose, and narrow and high-arched palate is reported. The constitutional karyotype was 46,XY,i(7)(p10),i(7)(q10). Molecular investigations revealed the presence of a maternal isodisomy 7q and a paternal isodisomy 7p. The clinical and molecular findings are notably congruent with a recently reported case and support the hypothesis of one or more maternally imprinted genes located on the long arm of chromosomes 7 that regulate, in particular, postnatal growth.

Abstract
We report on a 29-year-old woman with a history of five spontaneous abortions and a balanced complex chromosome rearrangement (CCR) involving break points between chromosomes 8, 11, and 12. Fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) in combination with giemsa trypsin banding techniques were essential for the identification of the breakpoints. In addition, the results were confirmed by 24-colour FISH using the spectral karyotyping system (SKY). The karyotype was 46,XX,t(8;11;12)(8qter-->8p10::12p10-->12pter;11pter--> 11q14::8p10-->8pter;12qter-->12p10::11q14-->11qter). Application of SKY facilitated detection of all three chromosomes involved and supported the localisation of the breakpoints by a single time and sample saving investigation.

Abstract
FORMATION OF THE QUIC: The Quality Interagency Coordination Task Force (QuIC) was established in 1998 to enable the participating federal agencies to coordinate their activities to study, measure, and improve the quality of care delivered by federal health programs; provide people with information to help them in making more informed choices about their care; and develop the research base and infrastructure needed to improve the health care system, including knowledgeable and empowered workers, well-designed systems of care, and useful information systems. STUDY, MEASURE, AND IMPROVE CARE: The QuIC's initial efforts to improve the care delivered in federal health care programs have focused on diabetes, depression, and the effect of working conditions on quality of care. More recently, patient safety efforts are under way to establish a coordinating center that will enable those who are testing methods of reducing errors to share information across their projects and with experts in error reduction. DEVELOP A RESEARCH BASE AND INFRASTRUCTURE: The QuIC has coordinated efforts in credentialing, information on measures of quality, a taxonomy of quality improvement methods, and errors data collection. PROVIDE INFORMATION TO AMERICANS ABOUT HEALTH CARE QUALITY: The QuIC agencies are developing products that will enhance their ability to communicate with the American people about their health care choices: improved gateways for consumer information available from federal agencies, a glossary of commonly used terms, and guidance for producing report cards on quality of care. MOVING THE QUALITY IMPROVEMENT AGENDA FORWARD: Federal efforts to improve quality of care are moving forward in a more integrated fashion on a wide number of fronts.

Abstract
Chromosomal aberrations were comparatively assessed in nuclei extracted from synovial tissue, primary-culture (P-0) synovial cells, and early-passage synovial fibroblasts (SFB; 98% enrichment; P-1, P-4 [passage 1, passage 4]) from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA; n = 21), osteoarthritis (OA; n = 24), and other rheumatic diseases. Peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) and skin fibroblasts (FB) (P-1, P-4) from the same patients, as well as SFB from normal joints and patients with joint trauma (JT) (n = 4), were used as controls. Analyses proceeded by standard GTG-banding and interphase centromere fluorescence in situ hybridization. Structural chromosomal aberrations were observed in SFB (P-1 or P-4) from 4 of 21 RA patients (19%), with involvement of chromosome 1 [e.g. del(1)(q12)] in 3 of 4 cases. In 10 of the 21 RA cases (48%), polysomy 7 was observed in P-1 SFB. In addition, aneusomies of chromosomes 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 18, and Y were present. The percentage of polysomies was increased in P-4. Similar chromosomal aberrations were detected in SFB of OA and spondylarthropathy patients. No aberrations were detected in i) PBL or skin FB from the same patients (except for one OA patient with a karyotype 45,X[10]/46,XX[17] in PBL and variable polysomies in long-term culture skin FB); or ii) synovial tissue and/or P-1 SFB of normal joints or of patients with joint trauma. In conclusion, qualitatively comparable chromosomal aberrations were observed in synovial tissue and early-passage SFB of patients with RA, OA, and other inflammatory joint diseases. Thus, although of possible functional relevance for the pathologic role of SFB in RA, these alterations probably reflect a common response to chronic inflammatory stress in rheumatic diseases.

Abstract
A case of partial deletion of the distal parts of chromosomes 15 and 18 [(15)(q26.1)(18)(q21.3)] due to a de novo translocation is reported. Cordocentesis and fetal karyotyping was done because of severe oligohydramnios and bilateral absence of kidneys. Renal defects are a frequent finding in fetuses with different chromosomal anomalies; this particular chromosomal rearrangement however has not been reported yet in a fetus with bilateral renal agenesis. FISH was performed for detailed clarification of the chromosomal anomaly. Prenatal karyotyping appears to be important in fetuses with renal agenesis.

Abstract
Pubertal development in teleost fish is characterized by gonadal growth that is directly stimulated by the pituitary gonadotropins, FSH and LH. We used a quantitative ribonuclease protection assay to provide, for the first time, the developmental profiles of the alpha-, betaFSH-, and betaLH-subunit gene expression in a seasonal breeding fish, the female striped bass (3-yr study, n = 207). Two-year-old females were sexually immature, although a transient rise in all gonadotropin subunit mRNAs was measured in the pituitary. Pubertal ovarian development occurred in 65% of 3-yr-old females, characterized by the appearance of lipid droplets within the oocytes. This reproductive phase, termed pubertal development, was associated with a 34-fold increase in the mRNA levels of betaFSH and a rise in the pituitary concentration of LH. The first sexual maturation took place in 4-yr-old females and coincided with a 218-fold increase in the mRNA levels of betaFSH. During this time period, the mRNA levels of the alpha and betaLH subunits increased by 11- and 8-fold, respectively. At the final stages of vitellogenic growth, mRNA levels of betaFSH declined to basal levels, whereas the mRNA levels of the alpha and betaLH subunits remained elevated. Throughout the study, pituitary LH concentration was positively correlated to the mRNA levels of betaLH, but plasma levels of LH remained low and unchanged (0.4-0.8 ng/ml) despite increasing levels of pituitary LH concentration, suggesting a regulated secretion pathway. Taken together, the data show that the profiles of betaFSH and betaLH mRNAs appear to follow an annual rhythm that is associated with developmental events in the growing oocytes. In particular, increasing levels of betaFSH mRNA appear to underlie the first sexual maturity in the female striped bass.

Abstract
We describe a de novo trisomy 5p in a 1-year-old severely retarded boy. The complete short arm of chromosome 5 segregated as an additional marker chromosome in all metaphases. The marker was identified as 5p by conventional cytogenetic techniques (GTG, GBG, CBG) and molecular cytogenetic techniques (whole chromosome-painting probe, probes for the cri-du-chat region and the centromere, and additionally high-resolution multicolor banding using a chromosome 5-specific DNA probe cocktail). The clinical findings were similar to the established trisomy 5p phenotype including macrocephaly, facial abnormalities, tracheobronchial defects with subsequent respiratory infections, hypotonia, and psychomotor retardation. To the best of our knowledge this is the first description of an isolated complete 5p trisomy without involvement of the aberrant chromosome in any structural chromosomal rearrangements.

Abstract
Prenatal diagnosis of Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy (DMD) is performed as a routine procedure in many laboratories. The major potential problem is an incorrect diagnosis that could be obtained due to contamination with maternal tissue. We report a case of mosaicism of the X-chromosomes confined to the placenta as a possible source of confusing results in prenatal diagnosis of DMD. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of this problem in a prenatal DMD diagnosis.

Abstract
A child with multiple abnormalities and intersexual external genitals is presented. The child has a male karyotype with a partial duplication Xp. Using additionally methods of molecular genetics the SRY-region was detected. We reviewed the only few persons described in the literature with male karyotype and partial duplications Xp. There are similarities in phenotype including sex inversion or intersexual genitals if the duplication is localised in the region Xp 21-->Xp 22. Whether these affected patients represent a new syndrome is a moot point. We also found the aberrant X-chromosome in the mother of the child. In the present pregnancy of the mother there is, therefore, a risk of recurrence.

Abstract
A sample of lunar dust was examined for organic compounds. Carbon detected in concentrations of 157 micrograms per gram had a delta(13)C per mil (PDB) value of + 20. Treatment with hydrochloric acid yielded hydrocarbons of low molecular weight, suggesting the presence of carbides. The gas chromatogram of the acylated and esterified derivatives of the hydrolyzate was similar to that obtained for the Pueblito de Allende meteorite. There were no detectable amounts of extractable high-molecular-weight alkanes, aromatic hydrocarbons, isoprenoid hydrocarbons, normal alkanes, fatty acids, amino acids, sugars, or nucleic acid bases. Traces of porphyrins were found, perhaps arising from rocket exhaust materials.
