Abstract
Nowadays, few investigations on the process parameters of grafted starch synthesized using electron transfer atom transfer radical polymerization (ARGET ATRP) and its applications in warp sizing and paper-making are presented. Therefore, this study aimed to survey the appropriate process parameters of bromoisobutyryl esterified starch-g-poly(acrylic acid) (BBES-g-PAA) synthesized by the ARGET ATRP, and also aimed to provide a new biobased BBES-g-PAA adhesive. The appropriate synthesis process parameters were 1.2, 0.32, and 0.6 in the molar ratios of vitamin C, CuBr2, and pentamethyldivinyltriamine to BBES, respectively, at 40 °C for 5 h. The BBES-g-PAA samples with a grafting ratio range of 4.63-14.14 % exhibited bonding forces of 57.8-64.6 N to wool fibers [55.5 N (BBES) and 53.8 N (ATS)], and their films showed breaking elongations of 3.29-3.80 % [2.74 % (BBES) and 2.49 % (ATS)] and tensile strengths of 29.1-25.4 MPa [30.4 MPa (BBES) and 34.7 MPa (ATS)]. Compared with BBES, significantly increased bonding forces and film elongations, and decreased film strengths for the BBES-g-PAA samples with grafting ratios ≥10.54 % were displayed (p < 0.05). The time (100-42 s) taken for the BBES-g-PAA films was significantly shorter than that of ATS (246 s) and BBES (196 s) films (p < 0.05), corresponding to better desizability.

Abstract
Nuclear factor erythroid 2 like (Nfe2l) gene family members 1-3 mediate cellular response to oxidative stress, including in the central nervous system (CNS). However, neuronal functions of Nfe2l3 are unknown. Here, we comparatively evaluated expression of Nfe2l1, Nfe2l2, and Nfe2l3 in singe cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq)-profiled cortical and retinal ganglion cell (RGC) CNS projection neurons, investigated whether Nfe2l3 regulates neuroprotection and axon regeneration after CNS injury in vivo, and characterized a gene network associated with Nfe2l3 in neurons. We showed that, Nfe2l3 expression transiently peaks in developing immature cortical and RGC projection neurons, but is nearly abolished in adult neurons and is not upregulated after injury. Furthermore, within the retina, Nfe2l3 is enriched in RGCs, primarily neonatally, and not upregulated in injured RGCs, whereas Nfe2l1 and Nfe2l2 are expressed robustly in other retinal cell types as well and are upregulated in injured RGCs. We also found that, expressing Nfe2l3 in injured RGCs through localized intralocular viral vector delivery promotes neuroprotection and long-distance axon regeneration after optic nerve injury in vivo. Moreover, Nfe2l3 provided a similar extent of neuroprotection and axon regeneration as viral vector-targeting of Pten and Klf9, which are prominent regulators of neuroprotection and long-distance axon regeneration. Finally, we bioinformatically characterized a gene network associated with Nfe2l3 in neurons, which predicted the association of Nfe2l3 with established mechanisms of neuroprotection and axon regeneration. Thus, Nfe2l3 is a novel neuroprotection and axon regeneration-promoting factor with a therapeutic potential for treating CNS injury and disease.

Abstract
Background: The treatment of patellar tendon injury has always been an unsolved problem, and mechanical characterization is very important for its repair and reconstruction. Elastin is a contributor to mechanics, but it is not clear how it affects the elasticity, viscoelastic properties, and structure of patellar tendon. Methods: The patellar tendons from six fresh adult experimental pigs were used in this study and they were made into 77 samples. The patellar tendon was specifically degraded by elastase, and the regional mechanical response and structural changes were investigated by: (1) Based on the previous study of elastase treatment conditions, the biochemical quantification of collagen, glycosaminoglycan and total protein was carried out; (2) The patellar tendon was divided into the proximal, central, and distal regions, and then the axial tensile test and stress relaxation test were performed before and after phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) or elastase treatment; (3) The dynamic constitutive model was established by the obtained mechanical data; (4) The structural relationship between elastin and collagen fibers was analyzed by two-photon microscopy and histology. Results: There was no statistical difference in mechanics between patellar tendon regions. Compared with those before elastase treatment, the low tensile modulus decreased by 75%-80%, the high tensile modulus decreased by 38%-47%, and the transition strain was prolonged after treatment. For viscoelastic behavior, the stress relaxation increased, the initial slope increased by 55%, the saturation slope increased by 44%, and the transition time increased by 25% after enzyme treatment. Elastin degradation made the collagen fibers of patellar tendon become disordered and looser, and the fiber wavelength increased significantly. Conclusion: The results of this study show that elastin plays an important role in the mechanical properties and fiber structure stability of patellar tendon, which supplements the structure-function relationship information of patellar tendon. The established constitutive model is of great significance to the prediction, repair and replacement of patellar tendon injury. In addition, human patellar tendon has a higher elastin content, so the results of this study can provide supporting information on the natural properties of tendon elastin degradation and guide the development of artificial patellar tendon biomaterials.

Abstract
It is urgent to develop a polyamide (PA) thin-film composite (TFC) membrane with a new method in this study by designing and constructing a new nanomaterial support layer instead of the conventional support layer. Polydopamine-wrapped single-walled carbon nanotubes (PDA@MWCNTs) as the place of the polymerization reaction can optimize the PA film structure and performance. The resulting composite membrane presents a higher water flux of 15.8 L·m-2·h-1·bar-1 and a rejection rate of 97% to Na2SO4, simultaneously maintaining this high separation performance in 300 min. It is a new ideal to construct novel support layer by using inorganic nanoparticles and organic polymer nanofiber membranes.

Abstract
This study investigated the effect of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) on insulin resistance in pregnant mice with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and underlying mechanism. C57BL/6 mice fed with a high-fat diet for 4 weeks and the newly gestated were selected and injected with streptozotocin for GDM modeling. We demonstrated that the fasting insulin levels (FINS) and insulin sensitivity index (ISI) in serum and blood glucose level were significantly higher in GDM group than in normal control (NC) group. The low or high dose of EPA intervention reduced these levels, and the effect of high dose intervention was more significant. The area under the curve in GDM group was higher than that of NC group, and then gradually decreased after low or high dose of EPA treatment. The serum levels of TC, TG and LDL were increased in GDM group, while decreased in EPA group. GDM induced down-regulation of HDL level, and the low or high dose of EPA gradually increased this level. The levels of p-AKT2Ser, p-IRS-1Tyr, GLUT4, and ratios of pIRS-1Tyr/IRS-1 and pAKT2Ser/AKT2 in gastrocnemius muscle were reduced in GDM group, while low or high dose of EPA progressively increased these alterations. GDM enhanced TLR4, NF-kappaB p65, IL-1beta, IL-6 and TNF-alpha levels in placental tissues, and these expressions were declined at different dose of EPA, and the decrease was greater at high dose. We concluded that EPA receded the release of inflammatory factors in the placental tissues by inhibiting the activation of TLR4 signaling, thereby alleviating the IR.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a serious health concern that affects pregnant women worldwide and can lead to adverse pregnancy outcomes. Early detection of high-risk individuals and the implementation of appropriate treatment can enhance these outcomes. METHODS We conducted a study on a cohort of 3467 pregnant women during their pregnancy, with a total of 5649 clinical and biochemical records collected. We utilized this dataset as our training dataset to develop a web server called GDMPredictor. The GDMPredictor utilizes advanced machine learning techniques to predict the risk of GDM in pregnant women. We also personalize treatment recommendations based on essential biochemical indicators, such as A1MG, BMG, CysC, CO2, TBA, FPG, and CREA. Our assessment of GDMPredictor's effectiveness involved training it on the dataset of 3467 pregnant women and measuring its ability to predict GDM risk using an AUC and auPRC. RESULTS GDMPredictor demonstrated an impressive level of precision by achieving an AUC score of 0.967. To tailor our treatment recommendations, we use the GDM risk level to identify higher risk candidates who require more intensive care. The GDMPredictor can accept biochemical indicators for predicting the risk of GDM at any period from 1 to 24 weeks, providing healthcare professionals with an intuitive interface to identify high-risk patients and give optimal treatment recommendations. CONCLUSIONS The GDMPredictor presents a valuable asset for clinical practice, with the potential to change the management of GDM in pregnant women. Its high accuracy and efficiency make it a reliable tool for doctors to improve patient outcomes. Abstract
Numerous micro-RNAs (miRNAs) affect neurodevelopment and neuroprotection, but potential roles of many miRNAs in regulating these processes are still unknown. Here, we used the retinal ganglion cell (RGC) central nervous system (CNS) projection neuron and optic nerve crush (ONC) injury model, to optimize a mature miRNA arm-specific quantification method for characterizing the developmental regulation of miR-1247-5p in RGCs, investigated whether injury affects its expression, and tested whether upregulating miR-1247-5p-mimic in RGCs promotes neuroprotection and axon regeneration. We found that, miR-1247-5p is developmentally-downregulated in RGCs, and is further downregulated after ONC. Importantly, RGC-specific upregulation of miR-1247-5p promoted neuroprotection and axon regeneration after injury in vivo. To gain insight into the underlying mechanisms, we analyzed by bulk-mRNA-seq embryonic and adult RGCs, along with adult RGCs transduced by miR-1247-5p-expressing viral vector, and identified developmentally-regulated cilial and mitochondrial biological processes, which were reinstated to their embryonic levels in adult RGCs by upregulation of miR-1247-5p. Since axon growth is also a developmentally-regulated process, in which mitochondrial dynamics play important roles, it is possible that miR-1247-5p promoted neuroprotection and axon regeneration through regulating mitochondrial functions.

Abstract
The Retinoic acid-Inducible Gene I (RIG-I) like receptors (RLRs) are the major viral RNA sensors essential for the initiation of antiviral immune responses. RLRs are subjected to stringent transcriptional and posttranslational regulations, of which ubiquitination is one of the most important. However, the role of ubiquitination in RLR transcription is unknown. Here, we screen 375 definite ubiquitin ligase knockout cell lines and identify Ubiquitin Protein Ligase E3 Component N-Recognin 5 (UBR5) as a positive regulator of RLR transcription. UBR5 deficiency reduces antiviral immune responses to RNA viruses, while increases viral replication in primary cells and mice. Ubr5 knockout mice are more susceptible to lethal RNA virus infection than wild type littermates. Mechanistically, UBR5 mediates the Lysine 63-linked ubiquitination of Tripartite Motif Protein 28 (TRIM28), an epigenetic repressor of RLRs. This modification prevents intramolecular SUMOylation of TRIM28, thus disengages the TRIM28-imposed brake on RLR transcription. In sum, UBR5 enables rapid upregulation of RLR expression to boost antiviral immune responses by ubiquitinating and de-SUMOylating TRIM28.

Abstract
A novel methodology for the synthesis of indanone derivates has been developed. The palladium-catalyzed annulation reaction of o-bromobenzaldehydes with norbornene derivatives is achieved through extremely concise reaction processes. The indanone skeleton was established directly via C-H activation of the aldehyde group under a mild reaction condition. This method is simple and practical, which simplified the traditional synthesis method for the rapid construction of indanone.

Abstract
The multispectral radiometric temperature measurement technique is affected by the unknown emissivity, and there is no multispectral radiometric temperature inversion algorithm applicable to any scene or target. To address the above problems, this paper converts the multispectral radiometric temperature inversion problem into an image recognition problem containing the temperature information to be measured, and proposes a graphical multispectral radiometric temperature adaptive inversion algorithm. In this paper, we use the difference between spectral channels to convert the one-dimensional radiation data into a two-dimensional radiation map; use the generalized inverse to obtain the spectral emissivity distribution features, fuse them with the two-dimensional radiation map, and use an improved deep learning network to achieve adaptive temperature inversion. It is experimentally verified that the algorithm proposed in this paper can achieve simultaneous inversion of temperature and emissivity for any scene or target with sufficient data set.

Abstract
Ribosomal proteins are involved in neurodevelopment and central nervous system (CNS) disease and injury. However, the roles of specific ribosomal protein subunits in developmental axon growth, and their potential as therapeutic targets for treating CNS injuries, are still poorly understood. Here, we show that ribosomal protein large (Rpl) and small (Rps) subunit genes are substantially (56-fold) enriched amongst the genes, which are downregulated during maturation of retinal ganglion cell (RGC) CNS projection neurons. We also show that Rpl and Rps subunits are highly co-regulated in RGCs, and partially re-upregulated after optic nerve crush (ONC). Because developmental downregulation of ribosomal proteins coincides with developmental decline in neuronal intrinsic axon growth capacity, we hypothesized that Rpl/Rps incomplete re-upregulation after injury may be a part of the cellular response which attempts to reactivate intrinsic axon growth mechanisms. We found that experimentally upregulating Rpl7 and Rpl7A promoted axon regeneration after ONC in vivo. Finally, we characterized gene networks associated with Rpl/Rps, and showed that Rpl7 and Rpl7A belong to the cluster of genes, which are shared between translational and neurodevelopmental biological processes (based on gene-ontology) that are co-downregulated in maturing RGCs during the decline in intrinsic axon growth capacity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This systematic review focuses on which sources of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are more beneficial for cartilage repair, specifically comparing umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUCB-MSCs) and bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) in patients treated via a high tibial osteotomy (HTO) plus mesenchymal stem cells augmentation. MATERIALS AND METHODS PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science were searched for literature published in English that compared the effects of hUCB-MSC amplification and BMAC transplantation in articular cartilage lesions of the human knee with at least 1 year of follow-up after surgery. The risk of bias in the included retrospective studies was assessed via the Coleman Methodology Score. The clinical prognosis was assessed based on the total clinical score, pain, function, and degree of cartilage repair. RESULTS The risk of bias in the included retrospective cohort studies was evaluated as fair. A formal meta-analysis of outcomes was not possible as the low evidence level and the nature of pooled retrospective studies introduced considerable heterogeneity. At an average of 1 year after surgery, two included studies reported that the ratio of normal and nearly normal cartilage repair assessed by International Cartilage Repair Society grading system (ICRS) grading in the second arthroscopy was higher in the hUCB-MSC group (Lee: 71.2% and 81.3%; Yang: 77.3%) than in the BMAC group (Lee: 45% and 40.5%; Yang: 56.8%). Ryu et al reported no significant difference between groups in the ICRS grade at 1-year post-operation (p = 0.655). Overall clinical outcome, pain and function were significantly improved at the last follow-up in both the BMAC group and the hUCB-MSC group, and there were no significant differences in these measures between groups. CONCLUSIONS This systematic review presents evidence that compared with BMAC injection, intra-articular hUCB-MSCs can induce significantly better tissue repair at 1 year after surgery, as assessed by the ICRS grade. Although there is only short-term follow-up evidence and a lack of histochemical evidence, our systematic review supports the recommendation to use hUCB-MSCs as the source of pluripotent stem cells for treating ICRS III cartilage lesions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (KHE) is a borderline vascular tumor between hemangioma and malignant angiosarcoma. While KHE has strong local invasion with rare spontaneous regression, it is not observed with distant metastasis. Even if KHE is asymptomatic or without the Kasabach-Merritt phenomenon (KMP), bone or joint invasion should clearly receive proactive treatment. KHE commonly affects infants/children but is rarely seen in adults. CASE REPORT We reported a rare adult KHE case with an invasion of >10 separate forearm/hand bones, who underwent multiple-lesion resection and finger amputation after tumor recurrence. Tumor recurrence and KMP were not observed during the 6-month follow-up after the final operation. During the hospitalization and follow-up period, the patient only received medications for infection prevention and pain relief. CONCLUSIONS Multiple resectable lesions were found in the distal limb, for which complete resection might not present typical features (high-intensity T2-weighted MRI), which might fail to detect all KHE lesions. Therefore, complete excision is not optimal for multiple resectable KHE lesions.

Abstract
A concise and highly efficient synthesis method of direct esterification of aldehydes via Pd-catalyzed C-H bond activation of aldehyde group has been developed. The strategy avoids the preoxidation step of aldehyde or use of condensing agents in ester synthesis, which is not only applicable to various alcohols but also suitable for the esterification of phenolics which are usually difficult to be esterified. The methodology has the significant advantages of broad substrate scope, mild reaction conditions, and nonrequirement of additional oxidants.

Abstract
Due to its poor toughness and hydrophilicity, the application of polylactic acid (PLA) in the field of absorbent sanitary materials is restricted. A butenediol vinyl alcohol copolymer (BVOH) was used to improve PLA via melt blending. The morphology, molecular structure, crystallization, thermal stability, tensile property, and hydrophilicity of PLA/BVOH composites with different mass ratios were investigated. The results show that the PLA/BVOH composites possessed a two-phase structure with good interfacial adhesion. The BVOH could effectively blend into PLA without a chemical reaction. The addition of the BVOH promoted the crystallization of PLA, improved the perfection of the crystalline region, and increased the glass transition temperature and melting temperature of PLA in the heating process. Moreover, the thermal stability of PLA was markedly improved by adding the BVOH. The addition of the BVOH also had a significant effect on the tensile property of the PLA/BVOH composites. When the content of the BVOH was 5 wt.%, the elongation at the break of the PLA/BVOH composites could reach 9.06% (increased by 76.3%). In addition, the hydrophilicity of PLA was also significantly improved, and the water contact angles decreased with the increase in the BVOH content and time. When the content of the BVOH was 10 wt.%, the water contact angle could reach 37.3° at 60 s, suggesting good hydrophilicity.

Abstract
Neural networks are the most promising tool to solve the problem that an assumed emissivity model is needed in the field of multispectral radiometric temperature measurement. Existing neural network multispectral radiometric temperature measurement algorithms have been investigating the problems of network selection, network porting, and parameter optimization. The inversion accuracy and adaptability of the algorithms have been unsatisfactory. In view of the great success of deep learning in the field of image processing, this Letter proposes the idea of converting one-dimensional multispectral radiometric temperature data into two-dimensional image data for data processing to improve the accuracy and adaptability of multispectral radiometric temperature measurement by deep learning algorithms. Simulation and experimental validation are carried out. In the simulation, the error is less than 0.71% without noise and 1.80% with 5% random noise, which improves the accuracy by more than 1.55% and 2.66% compared with the classical BP (backpropagation) algorithm, and 0.94% and 0.96% compared with the GIM-LSTM (generalized inverse matrix-long short-term memory) algorithm. In the experiment, the error is less than 0.83%. This indicates that the method has high research value and is expected to lead multispectral radiometric temperature measurement technology to a new level.

Abstract
Collapsin response mediator proteins (Crmps) play roles in neuronal development and axon growth. However, neuronal-specific roles of Crmp1, Crmp4, and Crmp5 in regeneration of injured central nervous system (CNS) axons in vivo are unclear. Here, we analyzed developmental and subtype-specific expression of Crmp genes in retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), tested whether overexpressing Crmp1, Crmp4, or Crmp5 in RGCs through localized intralocular AAV2 delivery promotes axon regeneration after optic nerve injury in vivo, and characterized developmental co-regulation of gene-concept networks associated with Crmps. We found that all Crmp genes are developmentally downregulated in RGCs during maturation. However, while Crmp1, Crmp2, and Crmp4 were expressed to a varying degree in most RGC subtypes, Crmp3 and Crmp5 were expressed only in a small subset of RGC subtypes. We then found that after optic nerve injury, Crmp1, Crmp4, and Crmp5 promote RGC axon regeneration to varying extents, with Crmp4 promoting the most axon regeneration and also localizing to axons. We also found that Crmp1 and Crmp4, but not Crmp5, promote RGC survival. Finally, we found that Crmp1, Crmp2, Crmp4, and Crmp5's ability to promote axon regeneration is associated with neurodevelopmental mechanisms, which control RGC's intrinsic axon growth capacity.

Abstract
Central nervous system (CNS) projection neurons fail to spontaneously regenerate injured axons. Targeting developmentally regulated genes in order to reactivate embryonic intrinsic axon growth capacity, or targeting pro-growth tumor suppressor genes such as Pten, promotes long-distance axon regeneration in only a small subset of injured retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), despite many RGCs regenerating short-distance axons. A recent study identified αRGCs as the primary type that regenerates short-distance axons in response to Pten inhibition, but the rare types which regenerate long-distance axons, and cellular features that enabled such response, remained unknown. Here, we used a new method for capturing specifically the rare long-distance axon-regenerating RGCs, and also compared their transcriptomes to embryonic RGCs, in order to answer these questions. We found the existence of adult non-α intrinsically-photosensitive (ip) M1 RGC subtypes that retained features of embryonic cell state, and showed that these subtypes partially dedifferentiated towards an embryonic state and regenerated long-distance axons in response to Pten inhibition. We also identified Pten inhibition-upregulated mitochondria-associated genes, Dynlt1a and Lars2, which promote axon regeneration on their own, and thus present novel therapeutic targets.

Abstract
Failure of central nervous system (CNS) projection neurons to spontaneously regenerate long-distance axons underlies irreversibility of white matter pathologies. A barrier to axonal regenerative research is that the axons regenerating in response to experimental treatments stall growth before reaching post-synaptic targets. Here, we test the hypothesis that the interaction of regenerating axons with live oligodendrocytes, which were absent during developmental axon growth, contributes to stalling axonal growth. To test this hypothesis, first, we used single cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) and immunohistology to investigate whether post-injury born oligodendrocytes incorporate into the glial scar after optic nerve injury. Then, we administered demyelination-inducing cuprizone and stimulated axon regeneration by Pten knockdown (KD) after optic nerve crush. We found that post-injury born oligodendrocyte lineage cells incorporate into the glial scar, where they are susceptible to the demyelination diet, which reduced their presence in the glial scar. We further found that the demyelination diet enhanced Pten KD-stimulated axon regeneration, and localized cuprizone injection promoted axon regeneration. We also present a website for comparing the gene expression of scRNA-seq-profiled normal and injured optic nerve oligodendrocyte lineage cells.

Abstract
Low temperatures limit the geographic distribution and yield of plants. Hormones play an important role in coordinating the growth and development of plants and their tolerance to low temperatures. However, the mechanisms by which hormones affect plant resistance to extreme cold stress in the natural environment are still unclear. In this study, two winter wheat varieties with different cold resistances, Dn1 and J22, were used to conduct targeted plant hormone metabolome analysis on the tillering nodes of winter wheat at 5 °C, -10 °C and -25 °C using an LC-ESI-MS/MS system. We screened 39 hormones from 88 plant hormone metabolites and constructed a partial regulatory network of auxin, jasmonic acid and cytokinin. GO analysis and enrichment of KEGG pathways in different metabolites showed that the 'plant hormone signal transduction' pathway was the most common. Our study showed that extreme low temperature increased the most levels of auxin, cytokinin and salicylic acid, and decreased levels of jasmonic acid and abscisic acid, and that levels of auxin, jasmonic acid and cytokinin in Dn1 were higher than those in J22. These changes in hormone levels were associated with changes in gene expression in synthesis, catabolism, transport and signal transduction pathways. These results differ from the previous hormone regulation mechanisms, which were mostly obtained at 4 °C. Our results provide a basis for further understanding the molecular mechanisms by which plant endogenous hormones regulate plant freezing stress tolerance.

Abstract
Objective This study explored the structural imaging changes in patients with subcortical ischemic vascular disease (SIVD)-vascular cognitive impairment no dementia (VCIND) and the correlation between the changes in gray matter volume and the field of cognitive impairment to provide new targets for early diagnosis and treatment. Methods Our study included 15 patients with SIVD-normal cognitive impairment (SIVD-NCI), 63 with SIVD-VCIND, 26 with SIVD-vascular dementia (SIVD-VD), and 14 normal controls (NC). T1-weighted images of all participants were collected, and DPABI and SPM12 software were used to process the gray matter of the four groups based on voxels. Fisher's exact test, one-way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis H test were used to evaluate all clinical and demographic data and compare the characteristics of diencephalic gray matter atrophy in each group. Finally, the region of interest (ROI) of the SIVD-VCIND was extracted, and Pearson correlation analysis was performed between the ROI and the results of the neuropsychological scale. Results Compared to the NC, changes in gray matter atrophy were observed in the bilateral orbitofrontal gyrus, right middle temporal gyrus, superior temporal gyrus, and precuneus in the SIVD-VCIND. Gray matter atrophy was observed in the left cerebellar region 6, cerebellar crural region 1, bilateral thalamus, right precuneus, and calcarine in the SIVD-VD. Compared with the SIVD-VCIND, gray matter atrophy changes were observed in the bilateral thalamus in the SIVD-VD (p < 0.05, family-wise error corrected). In the SIVD-VCIND, the total gray matter volume, bilateral medial orbital superior frontal gyrus, right superior temporal gyrus, middle temporal gyrus, and precuneus were positively correlated with Boston Naming Test score, whereas the total gray matter volume, right superior temporal gyrus, and middle temporal gyrus were positively correlated with overall cognition. Conclusion Structural magnetic resonance imaging can detect extensive and subtle structural changes in the gray matter of patients with SIVD-VCIND and SIVD-VD, providing valuable evidences to explain the pathogenesis of subcortical vascular cognitive impairment and contributing to the early diagnosis of SIVD-VCIND and early warning of SIVD-VD.

Abstract
The data processing of multi-wavelength pyrometry (MWP) is faced with the problem of solving N equations and N+1 unknown underdetermined equations. The traditional iterative optimization methods are difficult to meet the actual measurement requirements in terms of accuracy and efficiency. With the development of artificial intelligence technology in the field of data processing, it is expected to solve this problem. A generalized inverse matrix (GIM) is combined with a long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network algorithm for data processing of MWP is proposed, which emissivity influence is dispensed completely. Firstly, GIM is used for classification of the emissivity. Furthermore, inputting to the LSTM network not only ensures the accuracy of temperature measurement but also greatly improves the efficiency. The simulation results demonstrated that the accuracy of the GIM-LSTM algorithm was superior to that of the GIM-EPF and BP methods. After random noise was added, the relative error was still less than that for the GIM-EPF and BP methods, and the algorithm exhibited excellent anti-noise performance. Publicly available temperature data for the exhaust plume of a rocket engine were processed by the GIM-LSTM method, and the average relative error was less than the traditional method. Especially, in terms of inversion speed, the operational time of the GIM-LSTM algorithm was at the millisecond level, which is of great significance for the real-time monitoring of rocket exhaust plumes. The proposed GIM-LSTM data processing algorithm affords high accuracy and speed and is suitable for practical measurement of high-emissivity objects in real-time via MWP.

Abstract
In this study, polyamide (PA) thin-film composite (TFC) nanofiltration membranes were fabricated via interfacial polymerization on cellulose acetate (CA)/poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) support layers. Several types of CA/PVDF supports were prepared via the phase inversion method. With increasing CA, the PVDF membrane surface pore size decreased and hydrophilicity increased. The effect of the support properties on the performance and formation mechanism of PA films was systematically investigated via an interfacial polymerization (IP) process. The permselectivity of the resulting TFC membranes was evaluated using a MgSO4 solution. The results show that the desired polyamide TFC membrane exhibited excellent water flux (6.56 L/(m2·h·bar)) and bivalent salt ion rejection (>97%). One aim of this study is to explore how the support of CA/PVDF influences the IP process and the performance of PA film.

Abstract
While there are multiple reports on venous thromboembolism (VTE) associated with several orthopedic procedures, the knowledge regarding incidence and risk factors of VTE in tibial plateau fractures is limited. This study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors of clinically important venous thromboembolism (CIVTE) in patients with tibial plateau fractures. All adult patients who underwent surgical treatment of tibia plateau fractures between 2003 and 2018 in our level 1 trauma center were included in the study. All patients suspected CIVTE were assessed by the ultrasonography and/or CT scan. Univariate and multivariate analysis were used to evaluate the association between potential risk factors and CIVTE Variables. Thirty-nine of 462 patients (8.4%) developed clinically important venous thromboembolism, in which pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) were observed in 18 (3.9%) and 21 (4.54%) patients, respectively. Male gender (OR 9.75; 95% CI 2.34-40.66), spine injury (OR 9.51; 95% CI 3.39-26.64), other extremity injury (OR 3.7; 95% CI 1.58-8.66), length of stay in ICU (OR 1.14; 95% CI 1.09-1.2) were all risk factors for CIVTE. The incidence of CIVTE in tibial plateau fracture was relatively high (8.4%); The male gender, spine injury, other extremity injury, length of stay in ICU were the independent risk factors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Currently, there are still no convincing clinical models predicting closed lower extremity fracture-associated deep vein thrombosis in patients treated through thromboprophylactic methods. We aimed at using two retrospective cohorts to develop and externally verify a clinical prediction model for deep vein thrombosis in patients treated with anticoagulants after suffering closed lower extremity fractures. PATIENTS AND METHODS We evaluated the patients' pre- and post-operatively, to accurately determine the predictive power of the biomarkers and clinical risk factors. Two retrospective cohorts were used for the development and external verification of a pre-operative clinical prediction model (development: n = 2,253; verification: n = 833) and post-operative clinical prediction model (development: n = 1,422; verification: n = 449), respectively. RESULTS The C-indices were used to show the predicted incidence of objective thrombosis at the pre- and post-operative stage, which were then compared with the observed incidence of thrombosis in both cohorts. Biomarkers and clinical indicators were included in pre- and post-operative nomograms, which were adequately calibrated in both cohorts. The cross-validated C-indices of the pre- and post-operative clinical prediction models in the verification cohort were 0.706 (95% Cl, 0.67-0.74) and 0.875 (95% Cl, 0.84-0.91), respectively. CONCLUSIONS We present our findings of novel pre- and post-operative nomograms for the prediction of deep venous thrombosis in patients who received thromboprophylaxis after suffering closed lower extremity fractures.

Abstract
The 3D reconstruction of forests provides a strong basis for scientific regulation of tree growth and fine survey of forest resources. Depth estimation is the key to the 3D reconstruction of inter-forest scene, which directly determines the effect of digital stereo reproduction. In order to solve the problem that the existing stereo matching methods lack the ability to use environmental information to find the consistency of ill-posed regions, resulting in poor matching effect in regions with weak texture, occlusion and other inconspicuous features, LANet, a stereo matching network based on Linear-Attention mechanism is proposed, which improves the stereo matching accuracy by effectively utilizing the global and local information of the environment, thereby optimizing the depth estimation effect. An AM attention module including a spatial attention module (SAM) and a channel attention module (CAM) is designed to model the semantic relevance of inter-forest scenes from the spatial and channel dimensions. The linear-attention mechanism proposed in SAM reduces the overall complexity of Self-Attention from O(n 2) to O(n), and selectively aggregates the features of each position by weighted summation of all positions, so as to learn rich contextual relations to capture long-range dependencies. The Self-Attention mechanism used in CAM selectively emphasizes interdependent channel maps by learning the associated features between different channels. A 3D CNN module is optimized to adjust the matching cost volume by combining multiple stacked hourglass networks with intermediate supervision, which further improves the speed of the model while reducing the cost of inferential calculation. The proposed LANet is tested on the SceneFlow dataset with EPE of 0.82 and three-pixel-error of 2.31%, and tested on the Forest dataset with EPE of 0.68 and D1-all of 2.15% both of which outperform some state-of-the-art methods, and the comprehensive performance is very competitive. LANet can obtain high-precision disparity values of the inter-forest scene, which can be converted to obtain depth information, thus providing key data for high-quality 3D reconstruction of the forest.

Abstract
Exceptional points (EPs), singularities of non-Hermitian physics where complex spectral resonances degenerate, are one of the most exotic features of nonequilibrium open systems with unique properties. For instance, the emission rate of quantum emitters placed near resonators with EPs is enhanced (compared to the free-space emission rate) by a factor that scales quadratically with the resonance quality factor. Here, we verify the theory of spontaneous emission at EPs by measuring photoluminescence from photonic-crystal slabs that are embedded with a high-quantum-yield active material. While our experimental results verify the theoretically predicted enhancement, they also highlight the practical limitations on the enhancement due to material loss. Our designed structures can be used in applications that require enhanced and controlled emission, such as quantum sensing and imaging.

Abstract
Nasotracheal intubation facilitates adequate access for surgical procedures in the oral cavity, is not limited by mouth opening and can be better tolerated by patients in intensive care. Complications of nasotracheal intubation can include epistaxis, turbinate injury and sinusitis. Retropharyngeal submucosal perforation by the tracheal tube has also been infrequently reported. Here, we report a case of difficult nasotracheal intubation resulting in retropharyngeal submucosal perforation in a patient with a history of obstructive sleep apnoea listed for uvulopalatopharyngoplasty. To facilitate successful tracheal re-intubation, we used a soft urinary catheter via the other nostril. In this report, we discuss the reasons why this complication may have occurred, how submucosal perforation could be avoided, and reflect on our management of this rare complication. Difficult nasotracheal intubation can present unique challenges, and airway management plans should be made accordingly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Baicalein (BAI) has a significant anti-cancerous function in the treatment of gastric cancer (GC). Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) is a key regulatory molecule in integrin and growth factor receptor mediated signaling. MicroRNA-7 (miR-7), has been considered as a potential tumor suppressor in a variety of cancers. However, the possible mechanisms by which BAI inhibiting progression of gastric cancer mediating miR-7/FAK/AKT signaling pathway remain unclear. PURPOSE To investigate the molecular mechanism and effects of BAI inhibiting progression of gastric cancer mediating miR-7/FAK/AKT signaling pathway. METHODS Gastric cancer cell lines with FAK knockdown and overexpression were constructed by lentivirus transfection. After BAI treatment, the effects of FAK protein on proliferation, metastasis and angiogenesis of gastric cancer cells were detected by MTT, EdU, colony formation, wound healing, transwell and Matrigel tube formation assays. In vivo experiment was performed by xenograft model. Immunofluorescence and western blot assay were used to detect the effects of FAK protein on the expression levels of EMT markers and PI3K/AKT signaling pathway related proteins. qRT-PCR and luciferase reporter assay were used to clarify the targeting relationship between miR-7 and FAK. RESULTS BAI can regulate FAK to affect proliferation, metastasis and angiogenesis of gastric cancer cells through PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. qRT-PCR showed BAI can upregulated the expression of miR-7 and luciferase reporter assay showed the targeting relationship between miR-7 and FAK. Additionally, miR-7 mediates cell proliferation, metastasis and angiogenesis by directly targeting FAK 3'UTR to inhibit FAK expression. CONCLUSION BAI repressing progression of gastric cancer mediating miR-7/FAK/AKT signaling pathway.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a heterogeneous disease of the intestinal epithelium and ranks the third largest diagnosed malignancy in the world. Many studies have shown that the high risk of CRC is believed to be related to the formation of biofilms. To prove causation, it will be significant to decipher which specific bacteria in biofilms initiate and maintain CRC and fully describe their underlying mechanisms. Here we introduce a bacterial driver-passenger model. This model added a novel and compelling angle to the role of microorganisms, putting more emphasis on the transformation of bacterial composition in biofilms which play different roles in the development of CRC. In this model, bacterial drivers can initiate the formation of CRC through genotoxicity, while bacterial passengers maintain the CRC process through metabolites. On the basis of these pathogens, we further turned our attention to strategies that can inhibit and eradicate these pathogenic biofilms, with the aim of finding new ways to hinder colorectal carcinogenesis.

Abstract
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection causes hepatocellular carcinoma but its association with other cancers is not well established. We compared age-adjusted incidence of primary cancers among 5,773 HBV-infected persons with US cancer registries during 2006-2018. Compared with the US population, substantially higher incidence among HBV-infected persons was observed for hepatocellular carcinoma (Standardized rate ratio [SRR] 30.79), gastric (SRR 7.95), neuroendocrine (SRR 5.88), cholangiocarcinoma (SRR 4.62), and ovarian (SRR 3.72) cancers, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (SRR 2.52). Clinicians should be aware of a heightened potential for certain non-hepatic malignancies among hepatitis B patients, as earlier diagnosis favors improved survival.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) is one of the severe postoperative complications in elderly patients and seriously affects their prognosis and survival rate. Heretofore, there have been no reliable and accurate methods to predict postoperative SIRS in elderly patients. The aim of this study was to determine whether increased preoperative hs-CRP/albumin ratio (CAR) was associated with postoperative SIRS in elderly population. METHODS The data of patients aged ≥ 65 years who underwent general anesthesia in two centers of Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University between January 2015 and September 2020 were retrieved and analyzed. Based on the perioperative dataset, we used the targeted maximum likelihood estimation (TMLE) to estimate the association between preoperative CAR and postoperative SIRS in elderly population. Patients' CAR was calculated and divided into two groups (< 0.278 and ≥ 0.278) according to its normal range in our hospital. Adjusted odd ratios (aORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated respectively. Further sensitivity analyses were conducted to evaluate the robustness of the results. RESULTS A total of 16141 elderly patients were accessed and 7009 of them were enrolled in the final analysis, and 1674 (23.9%) patients developed SIRS within 3 days after surgery. Compared with non-SIRS patients, patients with SIRS had a significantly longer postoperative hospitalization, higher cost and higher risk of in-hospital mortality. Compared with patients with preoperative CAR < 0.278, we found that CAR ≥ 0.278 had a significantly higher risk for the development of postoperative SIRS after multivariable adjustment [aOR = 1.27; 95% CI (1.21, 1.33)]. The interaction effect of preoperative CAR ≥ 0.278 and SIRS was stronger among patients with the following characteristics: aged ≥ 75 years, male, comorbid with diabetes mellitus and admitted to ICU after surgery, duration of surgery < 120 minutes, underwent cerebral surgery or skin, spine and joint surgery (all P < 0.001). The above results remained robust in the sensitivity analysis. CONCLUSIONS Preoperative CAR ≥ 0.278 was significantly associated with increased risk of postoperative SIRS in elderly patients. Special attention should be paid to elderly patients with a preoperative CAR ≥ 0.278 so as to reduce the incidence of postoperative SIRS.

Abstract
Catalytic carbonyl formation ranks as one of the most important synthetic methodologies. Herein, a highly effective palladium-catalyzed and alcohol-promoted transformation of nitriles to synthesize benzocyclic ketones is described. It provides a straightforward access to potentially valuable indanone compounds in high yields in the presence of alcohol. It avoided the usage of carbon monoxide or an additional hydrolysis procedure.

Abstract
Projection neurons of the mammalian central nervous system (CNS) do not spontaneously regenerate axons which have been damaged by an injury or disease, often leaving patients with permanent disabilities that affect motor, cognitive, or sensory functions. Although several molecular targets which promote some extent of axon regeneration in animal models have been identified, the resulting recovery is very limited, and the molecular mechanisms underlying the axonal regenerative failure in the CNS are still poorly understood. One of the most studied targets for axon regeneration in the CNS is the mTOR pathway. A number of developmentally regulated genes also have been found to play a role in CNS axon regeneration. Here, we found that Transcriptional Elongation Factor A Like 3 (Tceal3), belonging to the Bex/Tceal transcriptional regulator family, which also modulates the mTOR pathway, is developmentally upregulated in retinal ganglion cell (RGCs) projection CNS neurons, and suppresses their capacity to regenerate axons after injury.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Embolization degree acts as an important factor affecting recurrence of aneurysm. OBJECTIVE To analyze the role of hemodynamics parameters of different degrees of embolization in the occurrence, development and post-treatment of aneurysms, and to determine the specific factors causing the occurrence and recurrence of aneurysms after hemodynamics treatment. Our study provides a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of aneurysms. METHODS Computed tomography angiography data of a patient with cerebral aneurysm was used to model 0%, 24%, 52%, 84% and 100% of endovascular embolization, respectively. The time average wall shear stress, time average wall shear stress, oscillatory shear index, hemodynamics formation index and relative retentive time were used to analyze the changes of hemodynamics indexes in different embolic models. RESULTS With the increase of embolic rate, the values of time average wall shear stress, time average wall shear stress grade and aneurysm index formation gradually increased, and the values of relative retention time gradually decreased. Oscillatory shear index was higher in patients with incomplete embolization and decreased in patients with complete embolization. CONCLUSIONS As the degree of embolization increased, the blood flow tended to stabilize, reducing the risk of cerebral aneurysm rupture, and finding that the wall of the vessel junction was susceptible to injury.

Abstract
BACKGROUND After decades of decline, US acute hepatitis B incidence flattened since 2011. In persons aged ≥40 years and in jurisdictions affected by the opioid crisis, there is an increase in new cases. Data suggest new infections are occurring among US-born persons. METHODS We used National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data during 2001-2018 to examine changes in total antibody to hepatitis B virus core antigen (anti-HBc) prevalence in US-born persons. During 2013-2018, the distribution of characteristics was examined. RESULTS During 2001-2006, 2007-2012, and 2013-2018, anti-HBc prevalence was 3.5%, 2.5%, and 2.6% among US-born persons, respectively. This corresponded to 5.7 (range, 4.8-6.6) million US-born persons with resolved or current HBV infection during 2013-2018, including 344 600 persons aged 6-29 years. The largest increase and highest prevalence was among persons who reported injection drug use (IDU), which increased from 35.3% during 2001-2006 to 58.4% during 2013-2018 (P = .07). CONCLUSIONS Anti-HBc prevalence among US-born persons remained flat during the most recent period, coinciding with a doubling of prevalence among persons reporting IDU. These data are consistent with acute hepatitis B surveillance trends, showing increasing incidence in subpopulations where prevention could be strengthened.Anti-HBc prevalence among US-born persons decreased from 2001-2006 to 2007-2012 and remained flat during 2013-2018, coinciding with a near doubling of prevalence among US-born persons reporting a history of injection drug use.

Abstract
Persons with isolated antibody to HBV core antigen (IAHBc) may have occult HBV infection (OBI), which is associated with reactivation and potential risk for hepatocellular carcinoma and HBV transmission. We used National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data to estimate US IAHBc prevalence and published studies of IAHBc-associated OBI prevalence to estimate OBI burden. During 2001-2018, IAHBc prevalence was 0.8% (approximately 2.1 million persons); OBI burden range was 35,500-83,600 persons. These data support the need for more robust estimates of IAHBc-associated OBI prevalence in the general US population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify new therapeutic targets for intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) by analyzing gene variations in IDD. OBJECTIVE We analyzed surgical samples of intervertebral disc from 4 patients with IDD and 3 patients with non-IDD using RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) technology to identify significant differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in IDD. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) databases were utilized for gene enrichment studies to acquire the key genes and signal pathways during IDD progression. The differential expressions of the identified genes in IDD were validated in clinical samples with qRT-PCR. OBJECTIVE The transcriptome profile revealed 512 significant DEGs, which were enriched in terms of keratinization, extracellular matrix (ECM) components, growth factor binding, and inflammatory chemotaxis in GO analysis. The top 10 terms of KEGG enrichment included amoebiasis, viral protein interaction with cytokine and cytokine receptor, ECM-receptor interaction, IL-17 signaling pathway, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, TNF signaling pathway, AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, chemokine signaling pathway and estrogen signaling pathway. Thirteen DEGs selected as the targets for qRT-PCR validation showed significant differential expressions in IDD (P < 0.001), and their expression trends were all consistent with the results of RNA-seq. Among these genes, 10 genes showed significant intergroup fold change (Log2FoldChange>1). OBJECTIVE ECM, growth factors, collagen components, inflammatory chemokines and such signal pathways as TNF-α and PI3K-Akt all have important contributions to IDD progression and may thus serve as new therapeutic targets for treatment of IDD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS During 2016-2020, the United States experienced person-to-person hepatitis A outbreaks that are unprecedented in the vaccine era, during which case-fatality ratios reported by some jurisdictions exceeded those historically associated with hepatitis A. APPROACH AND RESULTS To identify factors associated with hepatitis A-related mortality, we performed a matched case-control study (matched on age [±5 years] and county of residence in a 1:4 ratio) using data collected from health department and hospital medical records of outbreak-associated patients in Kentucky, Michigan, and West Virginia. Controls were hepatitis A outbreak-associated patients who did not die. There were 110 cases (mean age 53.6 years) and 414 matched controls (mean age 51.9 years); most cases (68.2%) and controls (63.8%) were male. Significantly (P < 0.05) higher odds of mortality were associated with preexisting nonviral liver disease (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 5.2), history of hepatitis B (aOR, 2.4), diabetes (aOR, 2.2), and cardiovascular disease (aOR, 2.2), as well as initial Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score ≥ 30 (aOR, 10.0), aspartate aminotransferase (AST)/alanine aminotransferase (ALT) ratio > 2 (aOR, 10.3), and platelet count < 150,000/μL (aOR, 3.7) among hepatitis A outbreak-associated patients in the independent multivariable conditional logistic regression analyses (each model adjusted for sex). CONCLUSIONS Preexisting liver disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and initial MELD score ≥ 30, AST/ALT ratio ≥ 1, and platelet count < 150,000/μL among hepatitis A patients were independently associated with higher odds of mortality. Providers should be vigilant for such features and have a low threshold to escalate care and consider consultation for liver transplantation. Our findings support the recommendation of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices to vaccinate persons with chronic liver disease, though future recommendations to include adults with diabetes and cardiovascular disease should be considered.

Abstract
A method for online measurement of the levels of moisture in dead fine fuels on the forest floor is proposed based on near-infrared reflectometry. A linear relationship is found between the moisture content of dead fine fuels and the intensity of light absorption at a wavelength of 1450 nm, and this forms the basic principle of measurement for different forest species. An online moisture-monitoring device is designed and developed based on this principle. This uses long-distance wireless data-transmission to adapt to the lack of telecoms service in remote forests. Moisture-measurement experiments were conducted continuously for 24 h in rainless weather during the summer of 2019 in the Harbin Urban Forestry Demonstration Base of Northeast Forestry University using leaves from four different forest species, specifically, larch, dryland willow, silver birch, and walnut. These measurements were verified using simultaneous measurements employing a weighing method. The results from the field experiments agreed well with the weighing results. The uncertainty in the moisture-content measurements using the proposed system was ∼3.4% when the true moisture content was 20.0% or less. This proposed system has the advantages of online measurement and high accuracy. This method for monitoring moisture levels in dead fine fuels is an important advance in terms of improving the accuracy and simultaneity of measurements for prediction of forest-fire-risk ratings and fire behavior.

Herein, an adhesive (GTT-3 hydrogel) is fabricated by catalysis of tannic acid modified gelatin (Gel-TA) with transglutaminase (TG). The hydrogen bonding, imine linking, and acyl-transfer reaction between GTT-3 hydrogel and tissue enable efficient hydrogel integration and adhesion to tissue instantly, so as to seal the wound and stop bleeding. Moreover, the intrinsic wound healing ability of gelatin and the antibacterial properties of TA provide favorable conditions for wound healing after adhesion. In vitro mechanical property testing and cell experimental results determine the elasticity, adhesion, and biocompatibility of the GTT-3 hydrogel. The wound operation in mouse models and pathological sectioning results indicate that GTT-3 adhesive obviously accelerates hemostasis, wound bonding, and healing. With the special property of instant adhesion and excellent hemostatic and therapeutic repair effects, GTT-3 hydrogel may provide a new option for surgical operation.

Abstract
Gastric cancer is a common malignancy worldwide and is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. However, very little is known about the underlying mechanism in human gastric cancer cells. Baicalein (BAI), a widely used Chinese herbal medicine, has shown anticancer effects on many types of human cancer cell lines. Here, we investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying BAI action on gastric cancer cell proliferation and migration. The results showed that BAI can expressively inhibit cell proliferation, colony-forming ability and migration ability in a dose-dependent manner, while in the meantime inducing cell apoptosis. Additionally, we found that BAI can suppress FAK and the phosphorylation of PI3K, AKT and mTOR in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, BAI significantly inhibited tumor growth in a xenograft model. Also, BAI can inhibit the proliferation and migration of gastric cancer cells and the expression of the pathway by downregulating the expression of FAK. In short, we demonstrated that BAI inhibited gastric cancer cell proliferation and migration through FAK interaction via downregulation in AKT/mTOR signaling, which signifies that BAI may be a latent therapeutic factor for the treatment of gastric cancer patients and that FAK might be a hopeful therapy target for the disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Since 2016, the United States has experienced person-to-person hepatitis A outbreaks unprecedented in the vaccine era. The proportion of cases hospitalized in these outbreaks exceeds historical national surveillance data. METHODS We described the epidemiology, characterized the reported increased morbidity, and identified factors associated with hospitalization during the outbreaks by reviewing a 10% random sample of outbreak-associated hepatitis A cases in Kentucky, Michigan, and West Virginia-3 heavily affected states. We calculated descriptive statistics and conducted age-adjusted log-binomial regression analyses to identify factors associated with hospitalization. RESULTS Participants in the random sample (n = 817) were primarily male (62.5%) with mean age of 39.0 years; 51.8% were hospitalized. Among those with available information, 73.2% reported drug use, 14.0% were experiencing homelessness, 29.7% were currently or recently incarcerated, and 61.6% were epidemiologically linked to a known outbreak-associated case. Residence in Michigan (adjusted risk ratio [aRR] = 1.8), being a man who has sex with men (aRR = 1.5), noninjection drug use (aRR = 1.3), and homelessness (aRR = 1.3) were significantly (P < .05) associated with hepatitis A-related hospitalization. CONCLUSIONS Our findings support current Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendations to vaccinate all persons who use drugs, men who have sex with men, and persons experiencing homelessness against hepatitis A.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hepatitis B virus (HBV) can transmit through needle sharing. The national HBV infection prevalence in persons who inject drugs remains ill-defined. We estimated the prevalence of total HBV core antibody (anti-HBc) positivity, indicating a previous or ongoing HBV infection, among adults aged 20-59 years with an injection drug use (IDU) history. We compared select characteristics by anti-HBc status. METHODS Using 2001-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data, we calculated the anti-HBc positivity prevalence among adults with IDU histories and among the general US population. For adults with IDU histories, we compared sex, age group, birth cohort, race/ethnicity, health insurance coverage, and hepatitis A immunity by anti-HBc status. Using marginal structural models, we calculated model-adjusted prevalence rates and ratios to determine the characteristics associated with anti-HBc positivity among adults with IDU histories. RESULTS From 2001-2016, the anti-HBc positivity prevalence was 19.7% (95% confidence interval [CI] 16.0-24.0%) among those with IDU histories, compared with 4.6% (95% CI 4.3-5.0%) in the general population. The HBV surface antigen positivity prevalence was 0.4% (95% CI 0.3-0.5%) in the general population. Among adults with IDU histories, 19.8% reported prior-year IDU and 28.5% had a hepatitis A immunity. CONCLUSIONS One-fifth of adults with IDU histories had a previous or ongoing HBV infection: a rate over 4 times higher than the prevalence in the general population. One-fifth of adults with IDU histories reported prior-year use. Programs promoting safe IDU practices, drug treatment, and hepatitis A and B vaccinations should be key components of viral hepatitis prevention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection can be prevented through vaccination. However, previous data show that only about 24%-45% of US adults at high risk of HBV infection are protected. Our aims were to assess prevalence and trends in protective levels of hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) from 2003 to 2014 and explore factors associated with protection among adults at high risk. METHODS Data were taken from the 2003-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination surveys. Our sample included adults aged 18-49 years who were tested for HBV and reported at least 1 of the following infection risks: history of sexually transmitted disease, sex with men (for men), infection with human immunodeficiency virus, and injection drug use. We calculated the prevalence of anti-HBs (≥10 mIU/mL), indicative of immunity from vaccination, among respondents for three 4-year time intervals (2003-2006, 2007-2010, and 2011-2014) and applied the Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel test to assess trends. Using multivariable logistic regression, we examined factors associated with positive anti-HBs serology. RESULTS The prevalence of positive anti-HBs serology was 23.4%. Prevalence increased from 2003-2006 (16.3%) to 2007-2010 (27.3%), but no change occurred from 2007-2010 (27.3%) to 2011-2014 (28.1%). Among factors predicting positive anti-HBs serology were young age and higher education. CONCLUSIONS By 2014, less than one-third of adults aged 18-49 years at risk of infection exhibited protective antibodies ≥10 mIU/mL. Because these adults account for a majority of unprotected adults, targeted intervention strategies are essential to achieve the hepatitis B elimination goal.

Abstract
GOALS To determine the proportion and characteristics of adults with hepatitis C at health care organizations in 4 US states who initiated direct-acting antivirals (DAAs). BACKGROUND There are almost no data to assess the penetrance of treatment of the hepatitis C population in general US health care settings. STUDY We conducted a prospective observational study using electronic clinical, pharmacy, and mortality data to determine the fraction of patients who initiated DAAs between January 2014 and December 2017, by start date and regimen. We used stepwise multivariate logistic regression analysis to identify sociodemographic and clinical characteristics associated with receipt of DAAs. RESULTS Of 8823 patients, 2887 (32.7%) received DAAs. Quarterly (Q) uptake ranged from 1.1% in Q3 2014 to a high of 5.6% in Q2 2015. Characteristics associated with receipt of DAAs included age 51 to 70 years, higher income, pre-2014 treatment failure, and higher noninvasive fibrosis score (FIB4); however, over one half of patients with FIB4 scores >3.25, consistent with severe liver disease, were not treated. A lower likelihood of initiation was associated with Medicaid coverage. Of 5936 patients who did not initiate treatment, 911 (15.3%) had died and 2774 (46.7%) had not had a clinical encounter in ≥12 months by the end of the study. Fewer than 1% of DAA prescriptions originated from nonspecialty providers. CONCLUSIONS During 4 calendar years of follow-up, one third of patients initiated DAAs. Large fractions of untreated patients had advanced liver disease, died, or were lost to follow-up. Even among patients in integrated health care systems, receipt of DAAs was limited.

Abstract
Super-resolution fluorescence microscopy has proven to be a useful tool in biological studies. To achieve more than two-fold resolution improvement over the diffraction limit, existing methods require exploitation of the physical properties of the fluorophores. Recently, it has been demonstrated that achieving more than two-fold resolution improvement without such exploitation is possible using only a focused illumination spot and numerical post-processing. However, how the achievable resolution is affected by the processing step has not been thoroughly investigated. In this paper, we focus on the processing aspect of this emerging super-resolution microscopy technique. Based on a careful examination of the dominant noise source and the available prior information in the image, we find that if a processing scheme is appropriate for the dominant noise model in the image and can utilize the prior information in the form of sparsity, improved accuracy can be expected. Based on simulation results, we identify an improved processing scheme and apply it in a real-world experiment to super-resolve a known calibration sample. We show an improved super-resolution of 60nm, approximately four times beyond the conventional diffraction-limited resolution.

Abstract
Background
Cyanotic congenital heart disease (CCHD) is a complex pathophysiological condition involving systemic chronic hypoxia (CH). A proportion of CCHD patients are unoperated due to various reasons. These patients remain CH all their lives and are at increased risk of heart failure as they age. Hypoxia activates cellular metabolic adaptation to balance energy demands by accumulation of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α).
Purpose
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of CH on cardiac metabolism and function in CCHD patients and how it relates with age. The mechanistic role of HIF-1α in this process was investigated and potential therapeutic targets were explored.
Methods
CCHD patients (n=20) were evaluated for cardiac metabolism and function by positron-emission tomography/computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Heart tissues collected during surgical intervention were subjected to metabolomic and protein analyses. CH rodent models were generated to enable continuous observation of changes in cardiac metabolism and function. The role of HIF-1α in cardiac metabolic adaptation to CH was investigated using genetically modified animals and isotope-labeled metabolomic-pathway tracing studies.
Results
Prepubertal CCHD patients had glucose-dominant cardiac metabolism and normal cardiac function. By comparison, among patients who had entered puberty, the level of myocardial glucose uptake and glycolytic intermediates were significantly lower, but fatty acids were significantly higher, along with decreased left ventricular ejection fraction. These clinical phenotypes were replicated in CH rodent models. In patients and animals with CH, myocardial HIF-1α was upregulated prior to puberty, but was significantly downregulated during puberty. In cardiomyocyte-specific Hif-1α-knockout mice, CH failed to initiate the switch of myocardial substrates from fatty acids to glucose, leading to inhibition of ATP production and impairment of cardiac function. Increased insulin resistance (IR) suppressed myocardial HIF-1α and was responsible for cardiac metabolic maladaptation under CH during puberty. Pioglitazone significantly reduced myocardial IR, restored glucose metabolism, and improved cardiac function in pubertal animals.
Conclusions
In CCHD patients, maladaptation of cardiac metabolism occurred during puberty, impairing cardiac function. HIF-1α was identified as the key regulator of cardiac metabolic adaptation under CH but its expression was suppressed by pubertal IR. The use of pioglitazone during puberty might help improve cardiac function in these patients.

Abstract
Multiwavelength pyrometry (MWP) is one of the most powerful tools for the precise measurement of high temperatures on the surfaces of non-gray materials. However, the unknown spectral emissivity of target materials is the most difficult obstacle to overcome in processing temperature inversion data using MWP. A direct and fast generalized inverse matrix normalization (GIM-NOR) data processing algorithm based on GIM theory for underdetermined equations is proposed in order to minimize the effects arising from unknown emissivity. The shape of the emissivity distribution is obtained so that the channel with the greatest emissivity can be selected in order to obtain a value close to the real temperature. The final inversion accuracy is then further improved using a NOR compensation method. Six kinds of materials with a distribution of emissivities at 1800 K were used to simulate and verify the proposed algorithm. The results show that the average relative error of temperature inversion was 0.63%, obtained within 8 ms computation time using a standard desktop computer, and the accuracy and efficiency were largely unaffected when 5% random noise was inserted into the simulation data. A set of experimental data for rocket nozzle temperature measurements with MWP were also processed based on the proposed novel algorithm. The results show that the relative error on the temperature was less than 0.50%, for a design temperature of 2490 K, and that the processing efficiency was very high, that is, within 9 ms. Simulation and experiment both proved that the proposed efficient data processing algorithm for MWP based on GIM theory was unaffected by emissivity and achieved good inversion precision and fast data processing. Therefore, the proposed new data processing algorithm for MWP data for measuring transient high temperatures has very broad potential applications, and it also provides a theoretical basis for measuring high-temperature fields using MWP.
