Abstract
RNA 5-methylcytosine (m5C) is an abundant chemical modification in mammalian RNAs and plays crucial roles in regulating vital physiological and pathological processes, especially in cancer. However, the dysregulation of m5C and its underlying mechanisms in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain unclear. Here we identified that NSUN2, a key RNA m5C methyltransferase, is highly expressed in NSCLC tumor tissue. We found elevated NSUN2 expression levels strongly correlate with tumor grade and size, predicting poor outcomes for NSCLC patients. Furthermore, RNA-seq and subsequent confirmation studies revealed the antioxidant-promoting transcription factor NRF2 is a target of NSUN2, and depleting NSUN2 decreases the expression of NRF2 and increases the sensitivity of NSCLC cells to ferroptosis activators both in vitro and in vivo. Intriguingly, the methylated-RIP-qPCR assay results indicated that NRF2 mRNA has a higher m5C level when NSUN2 is overexpressed in NSCLC cells but shows no significant changes in the NSUN2 methyltransferase-deficient group. Mechanistically, we confirmed that NSUN2 upregulates the expression of NRF2 by enhancing the stability of NRF2 mRNA through the m5C modification within its 5'UTR region recognized by the specific m5C reader protein YBX1, rather than influencing its translation. In subsequent rescue experiments, we show knocking down NRF2 diminished the proliferation, migration, and ferroptosis tolerance mediated by NSUN2 overexpression. In conclusion, our study unveils a novel regulatory mechanism in which NSUN2 sustains NRF2 expression through an m5C-YBX1-axis, suggesting that targeting NSUN2 and its regulated ferroptosis pathway might offer promising therapeutic strategies for NSCLC patients.

Abstract
Endometrial cancer (EC) is a common group of malignant epithelial tumors that mainly occur in the female endometrium. Lactate is a key regulator of signal pathways in normal and malignant tissues. However, there is still no research on lactate metabolism-related lncRNA in EC. Here, we intended to establish a prognostic risk model for EC based on lactate metabolism-related lncRNA to forecast the prognosis of EC patients. First, we found that 38 lactate metabolism-associated lncRNAs were significantly overall survival through univariate Cox regression analysis. Using minimum absolute contraction and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis and multivariate Cox regression analysis, six lactate metabolism-related lncRNAs were established as independent predictor in EC patients and were used to establish a prognostic risk signature. We next used multifactorial COX regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis to confirm that risk score was an independent prognostic factor of overall patient survival. The survival time of patients with EC in different high-risk populations was obviously related to clinicopathological factors. In addition, lactate metabolism-related lncRNA in high-risk population participated in multiple aspects of EC malignant progress through Gene Set Enrichment Analysis, Genomes pathway and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Gene Ontology. And risk scores were strongly associated with tumor mutation burden, immunotherapy response and microsatellite instability. Finally, we chose a lncRNA SRP14-AS1 to validate the model we have constructed. Interestingly, we observed that the expression degree of SRP14-AS1 was lower in tumor tissues of EC patients than in normal tissues, which was consistent with our findings in the TCGA database. In conclusion, our study constructed a prognostic risk model through lactate metabolism-related lncRNA and validated the model, confirming that the model can be used to predict the prognosis of EC patients and providing a molecular analysis of potential prognostic lncRNA for EC.

Abstract
The Ubiquitin Conjugating Enzyme E2 S (UBE2S), was initially identified as a crucial member in controlling substrate ubiquitination during the late promotion of the complex's function. In recent years, UBE2S has emerged as a significant epigenetic modification in various diseases, including myocardial ischemia, viral hepatitis, and notably, cancer. Mounting evidence suggests that UBE2S plays a pivotal role in several human malignancies including breast cancer, lung cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma and etc. However, a comprehensive review of UBE2S in human tumor research remains absent. Therefore, this paper aims to fill this gap. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the structural characteristics of UBE2S and its potential utility as a biomarker in diverse cancer types. Additionally, the role of UBE2S in conferring resistance to tumor treatment is examined. The findings suggest that UBE2S holds promise as a diagnostic and therapeutic target in multiple malignancies, thereby offering novel avenues for cancer therapy.

Abstract
Background Adequate prognostic prediction of Uterine Corpus Endometrial Carcinoma (UCEC) is crucial for informing clinical decision-making. However, there is a scarcity of research on the utilization of a nomogram prognostic evaluation model that incorporates pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs) in UCEC. Methods By analyzing data from UCEC patients in the TCGA database, four PRGs associated with prognosis were identified. Subsequently, a "risk score" was developed using these four PRGs and LASSO. Ordinary and web-based dynamic nomogram prognosis prediction models were constructed. The discrimination, calibration, clinical benefit, and promotional value of the selected GPX4 were validated. The expression level of GPX4 in UCEC cell lines was subsequently verified. The effects of GPX4 knock-down on the malignant biological behavior of UCEC cells were assessed. Results Four key PRGs and a "risk score" were identified, with the "risk score" calculated as (-0.4323) * GPX4 + (0.2385) * GSDME + (0.0525) * NLRP2 + (-0.3299) * NOD2. The nomogram prognosis prediction model, incorporating the "risk score," "age," and "FIGO stage," demonstrated moderate predictive performance (AUC >0.7), good calibration, and clinical significance for 1, 3, and 5-year survival. The web-based dynamic nomogram demonstrated significant promotional value (https://shibaolu.shinyapps.io/DynamicNomogramForUCEC/). UCEC cells exhibited abnormally elevated expression of GPX4, and the knockdown of GPX4 effectively suppressed malignant biological activities, including proliferation and migration, while inducing apoptosis. The findings from tumorigenic experiments conducted on nude mice further validated the results obtained from cellular experiments. Conclusion Following validation, the nomogram prognosis prediction model, which relies on four pivotal PRGs, demonstrated a high degree of accuracy in forecasting the precise probability of prognosis for patients with UCEC. Additionally, the web-based dynamic nomogram exhibited considerable potential for promotion. Notably, the key gene GPX4 exhibited characteristics of a potential oncogene in UCEC, as it facilitated malignant biological behavior and impeded apoptosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Epithelial ovarian cancer (OC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women, with a 5-year survival rate of 30%-50%. Platinum resistance is the chief culprit for the high recurrence and mortality rates. Several studies confirm that the metabolic regulation of ubiquitinating enzymes plays a vital role in platinum resistance in OC. METHODS In this study, we selected ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2S (UBE2S) as the candidate gene for validation. The levels of UBE2S expression were investigated using TCGA, GTEx, UALCAN, and HPA databases. In addition, the correlation between UBE2S and platinum resistance in OC was analyzed using data from TCGA. Cisplatin-resistant OC cell lines were generated and UBE2S was knocked down; the transfection efficiency was verified. Subsequently, the effects of knockdown of UBE2S on the proliferation and migration of cisplatin-resistant OC cells were examined through the CCK8, Ki-67 immunofluorescence, clone formation, wound healing, and transwell assays. In addition, the UBE2S gene was also validated in vivo by xenograft models in nude mice. Finally, the relationship between the UBE2S gene and autophagy and the possible underlying regulatory mechanism was preliminarily investigated through MDC and GFP-LC3-B autophagy detection and western blotting experiments. Most importantly, experimental validation of mTOR agonist reversion (the rescuse experiments) was also performed. RESULTS UBE2S was highly expressed in OC at both nucleic acid and protein levels. The results of immunohistochemistry showed that the level of UBE2S expression in platinum-resistant samples was significantly higher relative to the platinum-sensitive samples. By cell transfection experiments, knocking down of the UBE2S gene was found to inhibit the proliferation and migration of cisplatin-resistant OC cells. Moreover, the UBE2S gene could inhibit autophagy by activating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway to induce cisplatin resistance in OC in vivo and in vitro. CONCLUSION In conclusion, we discovered a novel oncogene, UBE2S, which was associated with platinum response in OC, and examined its key role through bioinformatics and preliminary experiments. The findings may open up a new avenue for the evaluation and treatment of OC patients at high risk of cisplatin resistance.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the suitable regimens of induced termination of second-trimester pregnancy in women with prior cesareans. METHODS A total of 204 s-trimester pregnant women with prior cesareans at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2019 to December 2020 were included in this retrospective study. Group A included pregnant women who were administered mifepristone with misoprostol, Group B included those administering mifepristone with misoprostol as well as a transcervical Cook double-balloon catheter, Group C included those receiving mifepristone with an intra-amniotic injection of ethacridine lactate, and Group D included those receiving mifepristone, transcervical Cook double-balloon catheter, and intra-amniotic injection of ethacridine lactate. Their characteristics, clinical outcomes, and complications among the four groups were compared. RESULTS All women had similar profiles in maternal age, gravidity, and previous cesarean delivery (p > .05). There was no significant difference in successful abortion among the four groups (p > .05). Group C had a significantly shorter induction-to-abortion interval than Group D (p < .01). The blood loss after abortion at 2 h in Group B was much less than Group A (p < .05). It made a significant difference between Group B and Group D regarding the blood loss after abortion at 2 h (p < .01). With regard to total incidences of adverse reactions, there were much fewer in the group B than the group A (p < .05). CONCLUSION The four regimens are all effective for the termination of second-trimester pregnancy in women with prior cesareans. The use of transcervical Cook double-balloon could reduce the risks caused by misoprostol, and the combination of these is feasible to induce second-trimester pregnancy termination in women with prior cesareans.

Abstract
Spiral artery remodeling is the process by which the uterine vessels become large bore low resistance conduits, allowing delivery of high volumes of maternal blood to the placenta to nourish the developing fetus. Failure of this process is associated with the pathophysiology of most of the major obstetric complications, including late miscarriage, fetal growth restriction and pre-eclampsia. However, the point at which remodeling 'fails' in these pathological pregnancies is not yet clear. Spiral artery remodeling has predominantly been described in terms of its morphological features, however we are starting to understand more about the cellular and molecular triggers of the different aspects of this process. This review will discuss the current state of knowledge of spiral artery remodeling, in particular the processes involved in loss of the vascular smooth muscle cells, and consider where in the process defects would lead to a pathological pregnancy.

Abstract
Purpose Cervical cancer (CC) has the fourth highest incidence and mortality rate among female cancers. Lactate is a key regulator promoting tumor progression. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are closely associated with cervical cancer (CC). The study was aimed to develop a prognostic risk model for cervical cancer based on lactate metabolism-associated lncRNAs and to determine their clinical prognostic value. Patients and Methods In this study, CESC transcriptome data were obtained from the TCGA database. 262 lactate metabolism-associated genes were extracted from MsigDB (Molecular Characterization Database). Then, correlation analysis was used to identify LRLs. Univariate Cox regression analysis was performed afterwards, followed by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis and multiple Cox regression analysis. 10 lncRNAs were finally identified to construct a risk score model. They were divided into two groups of high risk and low risk according to the median of risk scores. The predictive performance of the models was assessed by Kaplan-Meier (K-M) analysis, subject work characteristics (ROC) analysis, and univariate and multivariate Cox analyses. To assess the clinical utility of the prognostic model, we performed functional enrichment analysis, immune microenvironment analysis, mutation analysis, and column line graph generation. Results We constructed a prognostic model consisting of 10 LRLs at CC. We observed that high-risk populations were strongly associated with poor survival outcomes. Risk score was an independent risk factor for CC prognosis and was strongly associated with immune microenvironment analysis and tumor mutational load. Conclusion We developed a risk model of lncRNAs associated with lactate metabolism and used it to predict prognosis of CC, which could guide and facilitate the progress of new treatment strategies and disease monitoring in CC patients.

Abstract
AIMS PARP inhibitors (PARPi) are known to exert anti-tumor effects in patients with BRCA-mutated (BRCAmut) or homologous recombination (HR)-deficient cancer, but recent clinical investigations have suggested that this treatment may also be beneficial in patients with HR-proficient tumors. In this study, we aimed to investigate how PARPi exerts anti-tumor effects in non-BRCAmut tumors. MAIN METHODS BRCA wild-type, HR-deficient-negative ID8 and E0771 murine tumor cells were treated in vitro and in vivo with olaparib, a clinically approved PARPi. The effects on tumor growth in vivo were determined in immune-proficient and -deficient mice and alterations of immune cell infiltrations were analyzed with flow cytometry. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) were further investigated with RNA-seq and flow cytometry. In addition, we confirmed olaparib's effect on human TAMs. KEY FINDINGS Olaparib did not affect HR-proficient tumor cell proliferation and survival in vitro. However, olaparib significantly decreased tumor growth in C57BL/6 and SCID-beige mice (defective in lymphoid development and NK cell activity). Olaparib increased macrophage numbers in the tumor microenvironment, and their depletion diminished the anti-tumor effects of olaparib in vivo. Further analysis revealed that olaparib improved TAM-associated phagocytosis of cancer cells. Notably, this enhancement was not solely reliant on the "Don't Eat Me" CD47/SIRPα signal. In addition, compared to monotherapy, the concomitant administration of αCD47 antibodies with olaparib improved tumor control. SIGNIFICANCE Our work provides evidence for broadening the application of PARPi in HR-proficient cancer patients and paves the way for developing novel combined immunotherapy to upgrade the anti-tumor effects of macrophages.

Abstract
Background: Ovarian cancer (OV) is one of the most common gynecological malignancies worldwide, and its immunotherapy has considerable prospects. Multiple members of the CMTM family were aberrantly expressed in human cancers and controlled key malignant biological processes and immune regulation in cancer development. However, little is known about the function of this gene family in ovarian cancer, especially in terms of immunity. Methods: GEPIA, Oncomine, HPA, Kaplan–Meier plotter, cBioPortal, GeneMANIA, and TIMER were used to analyze the differential gene expression, prognostic value, genetic alterations, and alterations in the immune microenvironment of the CMTM family in patients with ovarian cancer. Importantly, RT-qPCR was used to verify the gene expression of the CMTM family. Results: CMTM1/3/4/6/7/8 showed abnormally high expression at the mRNA and protein levels in OV tissues based on the GEPIA and HPA databases. RT-qPCR showed that CMTM1/6/8 was highly expressed in ovarian cancer cell lines. IHC verified that CMTM8 is highly expressed in ovarian cancer tissues and is closely related to Ki-67. Survival analysis showed that high expression of CMTM1/2/3/5/8 can lead to a significant reduction in overall survival and progression-free survival. There were many types of genetic alterations in the CMTM family. Also, CMTM1/2/3/6 had a certain correlation with the changes in the immune microenvironment such as immune cell infiltration and immune checkpoint expression, which may be the potential mechanism of the CMTM family in ovarian cancer. IHC verified that CMTM6 is highly expressed in ovarian cancer tissues and is closely related to PD-L1. Conclusion: This study confirmed that the CMTM family has abnormal expression in ovarian cancer and CMTM8 can be used as a biomarker for prognostic evaluation. Also, the CMTM family may be used as a potential target for immunotherapy based on the suppression of immune checkpoints.

Abstract
A total of 49 patients with cerebellopontine angle cholesteatoma from the Department of Neurosurgery, Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University between January 2013 and January 2021 were recruited. All patients were evaluated by MRI scan before surgery and tumor resection was performed under microscope via retrosigmoid sinus approach. Then residual tumor was searched with 0°and 30°neuroendoscopy, and tumor resection was performed.Residual tumors were foundand resectedin 38 cases under theneuroendoscopy after routine microsurgery.Total and subtotalresections were performed in 44 cases and 5 cases, respectively. Complications included aseptic meningitis (n=8), cerebrospinal fluid leakage (n=1) and intracranial hematoma (n=2). Follow-up[42±3(6-72)months] was available in all patients. During follow-up, 45 cases (91.8%) had a Kar-nofsky Performance Status (KPS)score ≥80.Neuroendoscopy-assisted microsurgery for cerebellopontine angle cholesteatomas helps enhance the total resection rate and decrease the operative risk.

Abstract
Objective: To screen and analyze the key differentially expressed genes characteristics in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with bioinformatics method. Methods: NAFLD-related expression matrix GSE89632 was downloaded from the GEO database. Limma package was used to screen differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in healthy, steatosis (SS), and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) samples. WGCNA was used to analyze the output gene module. The intersection of module genes and differential genes was used to determine the differential genes characteristic, and then GO function and KEGG signaling pathway enrichment analysis were performed. The protein-protein interaction network (PPI) was constructed using the online website STRING and Cytoscape software, and the key (Hub) genes were screened. Finally, R software was used to analyze the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) of the Hub gene. Results: 92 differentially expressed genes characteristic were obtained through screening, which were mainly enriched in inflammatory response-related functions of "lipopolysaccharide response and molecular response of bacterial origin", as well as cancer signaling pathways of "proteoglycan in cancer" and "T-cell leukemia virus infection-related". 10 hub genes (FOS, CXCL8, SERPINE1, CYR61, THBS1, FOSL1, CCL2, MYC, SOCS3 and ATF3) had good diagnostic value. Conclusion: The differentially expressed hub genes among the 10 NAFLD disease-related characteristics obtained with bioinformatics analysis may become a diagnostic and prognostic marker and potential therapeutic target for NAFLD. However, further basic and clinical studies are needed to validate.

Abstract
Scanning electron microscope (SEM) is a widely used tool for analysing the micro/nanoscale structural information. In the process of the SEM imaging, the temperature rise caused by the electron beam bombardment has already become an issue because the SEM results might thus be modified by it as the specimen downsizes. This work aims to explore the relationship between the total electron yield (TEY) and the temperature rise in order to directly evaluate the heat accumulation inside the solid during the imaging using a Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. The rules of profiles of the TEY and the temperature rise integral with various primary electron (PE) beam energies and incident angles were first investigated focusing on a semi-infinite gold (Au) bulk. Based on this rule, it is concluded that, with the increase of the TEY, the temperature rise integral decreases almost linearly (As the PE energy getting larger, the linear correlation is more obvious). In addition, this result was also applied to evaluate the heat built up for two specific SEM imaging examples: nanoscale Au balls and arbitrary shaped Au particles on a carbon (C) substrate. Their temperature contour maps present an almost inverse contrast compared with their respective SEM images. Furthermore, the influence of external electric field (full extraction and no extraction modes) for thermal effect was discussed. It is concluded that the full extraction mode can effectively avoid the local overheating. The mechanism of these observations was explained in detail. On the one hand, this work gives a better elucidation and understanding for physical mechanism of electron-beam-induced deposition, of which reliability, process control and performance can thus be greatly improved. On the other hand, because some damages caused by nonuniform heat accumulation in various local geometric structures of specimen during imaging process could be effectively analysed and even reduced, this work thus greatly benefits for the analysis of the correlation between thermal effect and the structures of samples.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the value of temporary balloon occlusion of the abdominal aorta in the treatment of complete placenta previa with placenta accreta. Methods: From January 2015 to February 2016, 24 cases of complete placenta previa with placenta accreta were treated with temporary balloon occlusion of the abdominal aorta(the study group)before cesarean, and 24 cases of complete placenta previa with placenta accreta did not receive balloon occlusion(the control group). The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, intraoperative blood transfusion volume, the perioperative hemoglobin level, the hysterectomy rate and the related complications were compared retrospectively.Also, the hospitalization time, the blood coagulation parameters after operation, including activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT), fibrinogen(FIB), D-Dimer and reperfusion injury parameters including creatine phosphokinase(CK), creatine phosphokinase isoenzyme(CK-MB), lactate dehydrogenase(LDH)and serum creatinine were compared between the 2 groups. Results: The blood loss[750 ml(400- 2 000 ml)vs 2 000 ml(1 500- 2 375 ml); Z=-3.214, P=0.001]and blood transfusion volume[200 ml(0-800 ml)vs 800 ml(0-1 200 ml); Z=- 2.173, P=0.030]in the study group were lower than in the control group. The hemoglobin difference between before and after operation in the study group was lower than the control group[(12.8±13.4)g/L vs(22.9±20.1)g/L; t=-2.041, P=0.047]. In the study group, there were still bleeding in 13 cases after releasing the balloon, 5 of them received uterine artery embolization, 5 cases received uterine artery ligation, and 3 cases received uterine packing. One case had venous thrombosis in the right lower limb. Two cases(8%,2/24)in the control group had hysterectomy, while none in the study group, there was no statistical significance(P= 0.489). Conclusions: Temporary balloon occlusion of the abdominal aorta can effectively reduce blood loss and blood transfusion in the treatment of complete placenta previa with placenta accreta, but there is still the risk of continuing bleeding after releasing the balloon. Other methods of hemostasis might be needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intravenous calcium supplements are often required following parathyroidectomy to avoid postoperative hypocalcaemia. The aim of this study was to compare application effect of a femoral central venous catheter (CVC) and peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) on intravenous calcium supplements after parathyroidectomy. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the hospital records of 73 patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism who underwent a successful parathyroidectomy at the Huashan Hospital attached to Fudan University between 1 April 2011 and 1 February 2016. RESULTS Of the 73 study participants, 39 (53.4%) had a PICC and 34 (46.6%) had a CVC, respectively. Patients in the CVC group needed 6-7 days of intravenous calcium supplements, while patients in PICC group needed only 2-3 days to achieve normal serum calcium concentration (2.2-2.6 mmol/L). Furthermore, the duration of calcium supplementation was 71.62 ± 4.48 hours in PICC group and 100.4 ± 5.43 hours in CVC group (P < 0.05). Of the patients in PICC group, the incidence of catheter occlusion, operation failure and hypocalcaemia was 0%, which was significantly lower than those in CVC group (2.56%, 7.69% and 7.69%, respectively). CONCLUSIONS PICC is a safe and efficient alternative in contrast to CVC for providing venous access for calcium supplementation in surgical patients after parathyroidectomy.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the risk factors of pancreatic fistula after pancreatoduodenectomy and its relationship with pancreatic fibrosis. Methods: Retrospective analysis was made including 408 patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy from January 2013 to December 2015 in Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Third Military Medical University. There were 274 males and females, aging from 14 to 82 years with an average age of 54.6 years. Postoperative pathological diagnosis: 285 cases with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, 81 cases with gastrointestinal tumors, 13 cases with neuroendocrine tumors, 16 cases with inflammatory changes, 8 cases with pancreatic papillary tumors, 4 cases with serous cystadenoma, 1 case with retroperitoneal liposarcoma.Univariate analysis using pearson's χ(2) test, multivariate analysis using binary Logistic regression analysis, correlation analysis using Spearman rank correlation analysis and the predictive value of pancreatic fibrosis in pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve. Results: There were 123 cases (30.1%) with postoperative pancreatic fistula among 408 patients. Univariate analysis showed that body mass index(BMI)(P=0.005), preoperative gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase content(P=0.046), pancreatic duct diameter(P=0.001), CT value of pancreatic tissue(P=0.049), operation time(P=0.037), pancreatic stiffness (intraoperative judgment)(P=0.001) and percentage of pancreatic fibrosis(P=0.034) were the prognostic factors of pancreatic fistula. Multivariate analysis showed that BMI≥25 kg/m(2), pancreatic duct diameter ≤3 mm, pancreatic tissue CT value <40 Hu, pancreatic hardness (intraoperative judgments) for the soft and pancreatic lobular fibrosis percentage ≤25% of postoperative pancreatic fistula occurrence of high-risk factor(P<0.05). Pancreatic fistula's CT value and percentage of pancreatic fibrosis were significantly lower than non-pancreatic fistula group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). There were significant differences in CT value and pancreatic lobular fibrosis among different grades of pancreatic fistulae(P<0.05). Pancreatic fistula severity was negatively correlated with the CT value of pancreatic body and the percentage of fibrosis of the pancreas(P=0.005, 0.019), and there was a significant correlation between CT value of pancreatic body and the percentage of fibrosis of the pancreas(r=0.699, P=0.028). The areas under the ROC curve of percentage of pancreatic fibrosis and CT value of the pancreatic body were 0.745 and 0.714, respectively. Both of them were moderate predictive value for pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy. Conclusions: The degree of pancreatic fibrosis is a prognostic factor for pancreatic texture and pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy. CT value of pancreatic body can be used as a quantitative index of pancreatic fibrosis, and predict the prognostic of pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effectiveness of prophylactic abdominal aorta balloon occlusion in cases of placenta previa with abnormal placentation. METHODS In a retrospective study, data were analyzed for patients who had placenta previa with placenta accreta and underwent elective cesarean delivery (>34 weeks) with or without temporary aortic balloon occlusion at a center in Zhengzhou, China, between October 2015 and September 2016. The primary clinical outcomes were operative time, estimated blood loss, intraoperative blood transfusion volume, hemoglobin, hysterectomy, and hospitalization. RESULTS Among 69 eligible women, 38 had temporary balloon occlusion, and 31 had no balloon occlusion. Operative time, blood transfusion volume, change in hemoglobin, hysterectomy, and length of hospitalization did not differ. Although mean blood loss did not differ, fewer patients in the balloon group than the non-balloon group had an estimated blood loss of more than 1000 mL (24 [63%] vs 28 [90%]; P=0.009). In terms of different placental types, the estimated blood loss among women with placenta accreta and placenta increta was lower in the balloon group than in the non-balloon group (P<0.001 and P=0.01, respectively). CONCLUSION Prophylactic balloon occlusion of the abdominal aorta reduced bleeding after cesarean delivery for women with abnormal placentation.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effect of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) on glycogen storage disease typeⅡ(GSDⅡ). Method: The clinical data of three juvenile onset and two infant onset GSDⅡpatients were collected from First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in October 2015 to July 2016.Patient 1 was female, the age of onset was 15 months. Patient 2 was male, the age of onset was 20 months. Patient 3 was female, the sister of patient 2, the age of onset was 47 months. Patient 4 was male, the age of onset was 5 months. Patient 5 was male, the age of onset was 1 month.The age at the start of ERT of the 5 patients was 32, 31, 56, 34, and 3 months respectively and the duration of ERT was 19, 9, 4, 5, 5 doses respectively.ERT was administered at 20 mg/kg every 2 weeks.Dexamethasone was regularly given before each infusion. Result: ERT was well tolerated, only one time, Patient 1 developed tachycardia and hypertension without using dexamethasone.Patient 2 underwent successfully ventilator weaning.Patient 1 underwent a tracheotomy, also needed mechanical ventilation treatment.Patient 4 noninvasive ventilation was tried. Conclusion: Recombinant human alpha-glucosidase treatment was effective and well tolerated in patients with GSDⅡ.

Abstract
Melon (Cucumis melo L.) is an important vegetable crop that ranks second in salt tolerance among the Cucurbitaceae. Previous studies on the two muskmelon cultivars 'Bing XueCui' (BXC) and 'Yu Lu' (YL) revealed that they had different characteristics under salt stress, but the molecular basis underlying their different physiological responses is unclear. Here, we combined a physiological study with a genome-wide transcriptome analysis to understand the molecular basis of genetic variation that responds to salt stress in the melon. BXC performed better under salt stress than YL in terms of biomass and photosynthetic characteristics, because it exhibited less reduction in transpiration rate, net photosynthesis rate, and stomatal conductance under 150-mM NaCl stress than YL. A transcriptome comparison of the leaves of the cultivars revealed that 1171 genes responded to salt stress in BXC while 1487 genes were identified as salt-stress-responsive in YL. A real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis of 12 of the responsive genes revealed that there was a strong, positive correlation with RNA sequencing data. The genes were involved in several pathways, including photosynthesis, the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, metabolism, and plant hormone signal transduction, and their expression levels differed between the two cultivars in response to salt stress. This study provides a molecular perspective of two melon cultivars in response to salt stress, and its results could be used to investigate the complex molecular mechanisms underlying salt tolerance in the melon.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of ST2825, an inhibitor of myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88), on the proliferation and apoptosis of human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells as well as the potential mechanism and clinical significance of ST2825 in the treatment of HCC. Immunohistochemical staining with an MyD88 antibody was performed on tissues from 80 human HCC patients and adjacent normal tissues. In the in vitro experiment, human HCC HepG-2 cells cultured in vitro were divided into the following groups: blank, control (1% DMSO), low-dose (2 μM), medium-dose (10 μM), and high-dose ST2825 (20 μM). Cell apoptosis was detected by the Annexin V-FITC assay, and HepG-2 cell proliferation was detected by the MTT assay. The expression of IκB, p65, cyclin D1, caspase-3, and bcl-2 in the cells after a 48-h treatment was assayed by western blot analysis. MyD88 expression in the HCC tissue was significantly higher than that in the adjacent normal tissue (P < 0.05). The proliferation and apoptosis rates of control HCC cells displayed no significant differences compared with those of the blank group (P > 0.05). Compared with the control, ST2825 significantly inhibited the proliferation of and promoted the apoptosis of HCC cells. Moreover, ST2825 significantly decreased bcl-2 expression, increased cleaved caspase-3 expression (P < 0.05), and reduced p65 nuclear expression (P < 0.05) in a dose-dependent manner. ST2825 inhibits the proliferation of and promotes the apoptosis of HCC cells, thereby suggesting that ST2825 may be a new drug for HCC treatment.

Abstract
Chromium nephrotoxicity (CrNT) is thought to occur through the oxidant lesion mechanism. There is still a lack of specific remedies against CrNT. We primarily screened Chinese herbal medicines with a potential protective effect against CrNT, e.g., rhubarb (Rheum palmatum L.). However, the active constituents in rhubarb and its mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, the total rhubarb extract (TR) was successively separated into three parts: total anthraquinone extract (TA), total tannin extract (TT) and remaining component extract (RC). The effects of each extract on the potassium dichromate (K(2)Cr(2)O(7))-induced nephrotoxicity in rats were comparatively assessed. The results showed that only the administration of TT protected the kidney function in K(2)Cr(2)O(7)-injured rats. Besides, TT showed significant activity to scavenge hydroxyl radicals, which is considered to be the dominant lesion product generated by hexavalent chromium. TT also showed a reduced ability to transform toxic high valence chromium ions into non-toxic low valence ions. And TT was able to further precipitate chromium ions. These results suggested that rhubarb tannins treat CrNT as a free radical scavenger, reductant, and metal precipitant. The multiple protective routes of the plant tannins reveal a superior option for development into a promising natural remedy against CrNT. In addition, the opposite effects of rhubarb anthraquinones in treating CrNT were observed compared to rhubarb tannins, which suggested the duo-directional effects (Yin and Yang) of herbal medicines should be addressed.

Abstract
Uniform and step-shaped Bi nanowire (NW) arrays have been synthesized by electrochemical deposition inside the uniform and step-shaped nanochannels of an anodic aluminium oxide template. These Bi NWs are highly oriented and single crystalline. The current-voltage characteristics of the parallel uniform Bi nanowires show that the contacts between Bi NWs and gold film do not make significant contributions to the I-V characteristics of the step-shaped Bi NWs. The diameters of the thick segment and the thin segment of the step-shaped Bi NWs are about 70 and 40 nm, respectively. Their current-voltage characteristics show conventional metal-semiconductor junction behaviour. The approach can be exploited to produce one-dimensional metal-semiconductor junctions using step-shaped NWs consisting of other semi-metals without any external doping, which may find various applications in nanotechnology.

Abstract
Hexagonal cadmium selenide (CdSe) nanowires, with diameter around 20 nm, were synthesized using a simple vapor-phase growth. Silicon (Si) powder acts as a source material assisting the synthesis, which is very important to the formation of the CdSe nanowires. We also suggest that self-catalysis at the Cd-terminated (0001) surface, together with the assistance action of Si, leads to the formation of wire-like structures to be formed. Meanwhile, the assistance of Si is responsible for the fineness and uniformity of the CdSe nanowires. The possible growth mechanism of the CdSe nanowires is proposed, and the optical property of the as-grown CdSe nanowires is characterized.

Abstract
High dielectric constant ZrO2gate dielectric thin films have been prepared by means ofin situthermal oxidation of sputtered metallic Zr films. XRD reveals that the as-oxidized samples are amorphous, but can be made polycrystalline with a highly ()-preferential orientation by increasing the annealing temperature. AFM measurements confirm that high temperature annealing results in increase of the roughness root mean square value of the films. The growth and properties of the interfacial SiO2layer formed at the ZrO2/Si interface are observed by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. It has been found that the formation of the interfacial layer depends on the post-deposition annealing temperature. On the basis of a parametrized Tauc-Lorentz dispersion model, the optical properties of the as-oxidized and annealed films related to the annealing temperature are systematically investigated by spectroscopic ellipsometry. The increase in the refractive index and decrease in extinction coefficient with increase of the annealing temperature are discussed in detail.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hydroxyethyl starch (HES) is one of the most frequently used plasma substitutes. Some studies have indicated that HES may have anti-inflammatory effects. The present in vivo study was performed to investigate the effects of HES on hepatic production of cytokines and activation of transcription factors in sepsis. METHODS Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: rats challenged with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (5 mg kg(-1)) and treated with saline (64 ml kg(-1)); challenged with LPS (5 mg kg(-1)) and treated with HES (16 ml kg(-1)); injected with saline and treated with HES (16 ml kg(-1)); and saline control. Each hepatic tissue was collected in groups of rats 2 h after induction of endotoxemia for determination of tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha levels, TNF-alpha mRNA expressions, and nuclear factor (NF)-kappaB, activator protein (AP)-1 activities or 3 h after LPS challenge for IL-1beta, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10 levels and the mRNA expressions. RESULTS Endotoxemia was associated with significant increases in hepatic proinflammatory cytokine productions and transcription factor activities. HES significantly reduced the increased hepatic levels of TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, IL-6, IL-8 and the mRNAs in the endotoxemic rats. Similarly, HES could inhibit hepatic NF-kappaB and AP-1 activations. CONCLUSION The results suggest that in sepsis HES may down-regulate hepatic inflammatory mediators production and these anti-inflammatory effects may act through inhibition of NF-kappaB and AP-1 activations.

Abstract
Ultrasonic irradiation of mesoporous silica soaked in a mixture of chloroauric acid and isopropanol for 120 min in Ar atmosphere at room temperature yielded Au/SiO2 mesoporous composite, which was characterized by high resolution transmission electron microscopy and optical absorption measurement. The structure of mesoporous silica after sonochemical preparation of gold (Au) nanoparticles within its pores was studied by nitrogen adsorption technique. It has been shown that the structural parameters, such as specific surface area (SSA), porosity (P), the mean pore diameter (lp) were increased significantly after ultrasonic irradiation. It is suggested that the collision of Au nanoparticles with pore walls and localized erosion induced by the asymmetric implosive collapse of cavities on the extensive liquid-solid interface that are responsible for the structural change in the mesoporous solid.

Abstract
In this transcultural study of schizophrenic delusions among patients in Seoul, Shanghai and Taipei, we discovered that both the frequency and content of delusions differed among the three groups; and that these differences could perhaps be explained by varying sociocultural and political situations. Delusional themes that are sensitive to sociocultural or political situations include guilt, love/sex, religion, somatic damage, economy/business and politics. Delusions regarding longevity, love/sex, dysmorphophobia/dysosmophobia, religion or supernatural matters, and espionage/spy stories were most frequent in Seoul patients. Those in Taipei predominantly had delusions about possession, religion or supernatural matters, hypnotism, and mass media/computers. Shanghai patients often had delusions of poisons, being prickled by poisoned needles, their brain and viscera extracted and being a family member of political authorities.

Abstract
A novel selenium form, nano red elemental selenium (Nano-Se) was prepared by adding bovine serum albumin to the redox system of selenite and glutathione. Nano-Se has a 7-fold lower acute toxicity than sodium selenite in mice (LD(50) 113 and 15 mg Se/kg body weight respectively). In Se-deficient rat, both Nano-Se and selenite can increase tissue selenium and GPx activity. The biological activities of Nano-Se and selenite were compared in terms of cell proliferation, enzyme induction and protection against free racial-mediated damage in human hepatoma HepG2 cells. Nano-Se and selenite are similarly cell growth inhibited and stimulated synthesis of glutathione peroxidase (GPx), phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx) and thioredoxin reductase (TR). When HepG2 cells were co-treated with selenium and glutathione, Nano-Se showed less pro-oxidative effects than selenite, as measured by cell growth. These results demonstrate that Nano-Se has a similar bioavailability in the rat and antioxidant effects on cells.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE There were two aims: First, to compare children's rates of being battered in home, by peers, and by teachers among students between China and Korea, and second, to identify particular risk factors for such violence. METHODS Children in grades four through six in Shanghai (238 cases) and Yanji (245 cases) in China and Seoul (248 cases) and Kimpo (241 cases) in Korea were surveyed by questionnaire method. They were asked to complete the Straus' Conflict Tactics Scale and their frequencies in the three situations respectively, and other demographic items. RESULTS Family violence during the last 1 year was experienced in 70.6% (minor 42.2%; serious 22.6%) of the children in China and 68.9% (minor 9.4%; serious 51.3%) of those in Korea. Experience rates of violence by peers were 42.7% (minor 25.7%; serious 13.7%) in China and 26.0% (minor 11.5%; serious 14.3%) in Korea. Finally, rates of corporal punishment by teachers were 51.1% (minor 28.0%; serious 4.1%) in China and 62.0% (minor 8.8%; serious 43.8%) in Korea. The most important and common risk factor for violence in one situation was the presence of violence in another situation. CONCLUSIONS The findings indicate that the differences in children's overall experience rates were not particularly striking. However, Korean children experienced more severe forms of violence from family members and from teachers. Findings of risk factors clearly imply that there are children vulnerable to violence from multiple sources.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the efficacy, safety, and acceptability of NORPLANT implants when used by Chinese women. METHODS In a prospective, multicenter clinical trial, 10,718 women selecting NORPLANT implants were monitored semiannually for the first 2 study years and then annually through 5 years. Life table rates of pregnancy and other terminations were calculated, as were incidence rates of serious conditions leading to termination. RESULTS The 5-year average annual pregnancy rate was 0.3 per 100 and the ectopic pregnancy rate was minimal, 0.09 per 1000 woman-years. Pregnancy rates correlated significantly with weight, but regardless of weight group, annual average pregnancy rates were less than one per 100. Younger women experienced higher pregnancy rates than did older users. Headache, myoma, dizziness, and weight gain led more frequently to termination than did other adverse events apart from menstrual disturbances. Mortality during use was 2.0 per 10,000 years, based on 44,954 years of experience. There were no cardiovascular or cerebrovascular deaths, and no deaths were attributable to NORPLANT use. Seventy-two per 100 initial acceptors used the implants continuously for 5 years. CONCLUSION NORPLANT implants proved highly effective, safe, and acceptable among Chinese women regardless of province, age, or weight at admission.

Abstract
According to the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), 50 patients with affective disorders were typed into the categories of depressed liver resulting in fire, mild Yang deficiency and mild Yin deficiency and were treated with Xiao Yao San Jia Wei. The results are 26 patients with marked improvement, 17 patients with improvement and 7 patients with no improvement.

Abstract
Comparisons between x-ray and B-mode ultrasonic examinations were carried out in 32 divers in both shoulders and both hips (128 comparisons in all). The x-rays showed dysbaric osteonecrosis (DON) in 46 sites; in 43 of these, the B-mode ultrasonogram result coincided with the x-ray finding. We suggest that B-mode ultrasonograms can depict the location, form, and size of the lesions. It is an easy, efficient, and noninvasive method of diagnosing DON, worthy of further investigation and application. Similar good agreement between x-rays and ultrasonograms was found with the now-obsolete A-mode technique.

Abstract
In a prospective investigation of 164 cases of dysbaric osteonecrosis out of a total of 1269 hyperbaric workers, we found that lesions are apt to occur more frequently in some sites of the head and neck of the femur and humerus than in others. Defining the susceptibility of sites with radiographs has improved our ability to make early diagnoses because we are able to estimate the likelihood of a definite lesion of osteonecrosis developing. We have found that when the trabeculae in a susceptible site appear disordered or have translucent areas, the site often develops into osteonecrosis in a few years.

Abstract
Rabbits developed acute decompression sickness after staying at 6 ATA for 30 min followed by decompression to 1 ATA in 20 min or less. If the rabbits received an i.v. injection of 25% ethanol upon surfacing, all survived, whereas half the untreated control group died within 15-35 min after decompressing. In ethanol-treated animals, no bubbles were seen in blood vessels of visceral organs, muscles, and subcutaneous tissues at autopsy 60 min after treatment. Decompression reduced platelet counts markedly in all rabbits, but in the control group the count stayed low, whereas with ethanol treatment the counts had reached the precompression level after 1 h and 24 h.

Abstract
The authors found that 73 (8.4%) of 866 patients with chronic schizophrenia in the Shanghai Psychiatric Hospital who had been treated with neuroleptics had tardive dyskinesia. This low prevalence rate is possibly ascribable to the use of relatively low doses of neuroleptics.

Abstract
The incorporations of [3H] thymidine, [3H]uridine and [3H]leucine into DNA, RNA and protein synthesis in leukemia 7712 cells were inhibited by the complex of 3,6-di-(dimethylamino)-dibenzopyriodonium with praseodymium (Pr, rare earth element) dicitrite 34 micrograms/ml for 3-24 h. The degree of inhibition increased in proportion to the incubation time. After being treated with [C17H20N2I]3[Pr(C6H5O7)2] 34 micrograms/ml for 3, 6, 12 and 24 h, the incorporation of [32P]Na2HPO4 into the nucleoprotein of leukemia 7712 cells was inhibited by 49, 57, 65 and 85%, while those into ATP were inhibited by 43, 59, 65 and 83%, respectively. The ID50 of [C17H20N2I]3[Pr(C6H5O7)2] on DNA synthesis in leukemia 7712 cells at 24 h was 22 micrograms/ml. After the complex was removed from the medium entirely, the rate of DNA synthesis decreased with time over 3-12 h. This result indicated that the inhibition mechanism was likely due to damage to the DNA template.

Abstract
A large scale, phased investigation of NORPLANT contraceptive systems was conducted in the People's Republic of China. The first phase comprehended 1,200 women in four cities. Expanded trials included 11,918 women at 12 major centers and at sub-centers by 31 May 1987. At that date 4,676 NORPLANT capsule subjects and 1,089 rod subjects had completed one year of use, 1,381 capsule acceptors had completed two years as had 197 rod users. Gross pregnancy rates were less than 0.1 per 100 for each implant type both at one and at two years. Continuation rates were 94 per 100 for each implant type at one year, and were 82.0 and 83.6 per 100 among users of NORPLANT capsule and rod implants, respectively, at two years. Disruption of menstrual function was the dominant reason for termination, but mean hemoglobin levels increased in each of the nine centers reporting values at admission and at one year. First year gross cumulative termination rates for medical reasons were 1.2 to 1.3 per 100, reaching 3.8 and 5.6 per 100 for capsule and rod implants, respectively, at two years. Microdose contraception with these levonorgestrel-releasing implants appears to be a highly acceptable and effective modality suitable for Chinese women. NORPLANT implants are now approved by the national drug regulatory agency for general use in China.
