Abstract
Cd-content and temperature dependences of hyperfine fields in CdxFe3-xO4 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5) were investigated by means of time-differential perturbed angular correlation spectroscopy with the 111Cd(←111In) probe. It was found that Cd2+ ions selectively occupy the tetrahedral A site in the spinel structure in all the range of the present Cd content x. The magnetic transition temperature TC becomes lower with increasing x due to the interference of the long-range ordering of Fe spins as a result of expansion of the lattice constants by Cd doping. The measurement of room-temperature hyperfine fields at different x shows that the supertransferred magnetic hyperfine field (SMHF) at the probe decreases as x increases in the range of 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5. Isothermal measurements at 15 K revealed a contrastive phenomenon for the Cd contents up to x = 0.4: the SMHF becomes great with increasing x; however, this increasing trend of the SMHF turns to reduction at x = 0.46. These observations can be explained based on the effect of Cd doping on the antiferromagnetic coupling between Fe ions in the A and B sites.

Abstract
Breast cancer ranks first in incidence and fifth in cancer-related deaths among all types of cancer globally. Among breast cancer, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has few known therapeutic targets and a poor prognosis. Therefore, new therapeutic targets and strategies against TNBC are required. We found that androgen-induced basic leucine zipper (AIbZIP), also known as cyclic AMP-responsive element-binding protein 3-like protein 4 (CREB3L4), which is encoded by Creb3l4, is highly upregulated in a particular subtype of TNBC, luminal androgen receptor (LAR) subtype. We analyzed the function of AIbZIP through depletion of AIbZIP by siRNA knockdown in LAR subtype TNBC cell lines, MFM223 and MDAMB453. In AIbZIP-depleted cells, the proliferation ratios of cells were greatly suppressed. Moreover, G1-S transition was inhibited in AIbZIP-depleted cells. We comprehensively analyzed the expression levels of proteins that regulate G1-S transition and found that p27 was specifically upregulated in AIbZIP-depleted cells. Furthermore, we identified that this p27 downregulation was caused by protein degradation modulated by the ubiquitin-proteasome system via F-box protein S-phase kinase-associated protein 2 (SKP2) upregulation. Our findings demonstrate that AIbZIP is a novel p27-SKP2 pathway-regulating factor and a potential molecule that contributes to LAR subtype TNBC progression. IMPLICATIONS This research shows a new mechanism for the proliferation of LAR subtype TNBC regulated by AIbZIP, that may provide novel insight into the LAR subtype TNBC progression and the molecular mechanisms involved in cell proliferation.

Abstract
Antimicrobial-product package inserts and insufficient staffing impede routine carbapenem monitoring in the inpatient setting in Japan. The collaboration between antimicrobial stewardship teams and clinical pharmacists was associated with a sustained improvement in carbapenem dosing optimization. Our findings could be of use to countries with inadequate monitoring of carbapenem antimicrobial use.

Abstract
In the present study, we report the first synthesis of diazirine-modified hyaluronic acid (HA-DAZ). In addition, we also produced a precursor polymer solution composed of HA-DAZ and dendritic polyethyleneimine (DPI) that showed strong shear-thinning properties. Furthermore, its viscosity was strongly reduced (i.e., from 5 × 105 mPa s at 10-3 s-1 to 6 × 101 mPa s at 103 s-1), substantially, which enhanced solution injectability using a 21 G needle. After ultraviolet irradiation at 365 nm and 6 mW cm-2, the HA-DAZ/DPI solution achieved rapid gelation, as measured using the stirring method, and its gelation time decreased from 200 s to 9 s as the total concentrations of HA-DAZ and DPI increased. Following UV irradiation, the storage modulus increased from 40 to 200 Pa. In addition, reversible sol-gel transition and self-healing properties were observed even after UV irradiation. This suggests that the HA-DAZ/DPI hydrogel was crosslinked in multiple ways, i.e., via covalent bonding between the diazirine and amine groups and via intermolecular interactions, including hydrogen bonding, electrostatic interactions, and hydrophobic interactions. A lap shear test showed that the HA-DAZ/DPI hydrogel exhibited strong adhesiveness as a fibrin glue following UV irradiation. Finally, the HA-DAZ/DPI hydrogel showed higher tissue reinforcement than fibrin glue in an ex vivo burst pressure test of the porcine esophageal mucosa.

Abstract
Injectable ECM-inspired hydrogels composed of hyaluronic acid and gelatin are biocompatible and potentially useful for various medical applications. We developed injectable hydrogels composed of monoaldehyde-modified hyaluronic acid (HA-mCHO) and carbohydrazide-modified gelatin (GL-CDH), "HA/GL gel", whose ratios of HA-mCHO to GL-CDH were different. The hydrogels exhibited gelation times shorter than 3 s. In addition, the hydrogels showed strong shear-thinning and self-healing properties, mainly because of the dynamic covalent bonding of Schiff bases between HA-mCHO and GL-CDH. This hydrogel degraded in the mice's peritoneum for a week and showed excellent biocompatibility. Moreover, the hydrogel showed a higher breaking strength than fibrin glue in the lap shear test of porcine skin. Finally, the hydrogels decreased bleeding to as low as fibrin glue without using thrombin and fibrinogen in a mouse liver bleeding model in both single- and double-barreled syringe administrations. HA/GL gels have the potential for excellent biocompatibility and hemostasis in clinical settings.

Abstract
Benzaldehyde-conjugated chitosan (CH-CBA) was synthesized by a coupling reaction between chitosan (CH) and carboxybenzaldehyde (CBA). The pH-sensitive self-cross-linking can be achieved through the Schiff base reaction. The degree of substitution (DS) of CH-CBA was controlled at 1.4-12.7% by optimizing the pH and reagent stoichiometry. The dynamic Schiff base linkages conferred strong shear-thinning and self-healing properties to the hydrogels. The viscosity of the 2 wt/v % CH-CBA hydrogel decreased from 5.3 × 107 mPa·s at a shear rate of 10-2 s-1 to 2.0 × 103 mPa·s at 102 s-1 at pH 7.4. The CH-CBA hydrogel exhibited excellent biocompatibility in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, the hydrogel adhered strongly to porcine small intestine, colon, and cecum samples, comparable to commercial fibrin glue, and exhibited effective in vivo tissue sealing in a mouse cecal ligation and puncture model, highlighting its potential as a biomaterial for application in tissue adhesives, tissue engineering scaffolds, etc.

Abstract
We fabricated drug-loaded, microsized, and torus-shaped alginate microparticles (TSMs) by vortex-ring freezing (VRF), utilizing vortex ring formation and ionic cross-linking. The equivalent outer diameter of the TSMs was ca. 200 μm. Several model drugs, such as doxorubicin, heparin, lysozyme, and several dextran derivatives, have been successfully loaded into TSMs. Because the TSMs were fragile due to the limitation of the process conditions of the VRF, drug-loaded TSMs were subsequently cross-linked via "post-cross-linking" with CaCl2, SrCl2, or BaCl2 to increase the cross-linking density of the alginate matrix, thereby enhancing the stability of dextran (Dex)-loaded TSMs (Dex-TSMs) and enabling the sustained release of natural Dex of 10, 70, or 150 kDa and cationic or anionic Dex at a physiological pH. The release kinetics of Dexs showed molecular weight and charge dependence; a relatively dense network of the alginate matrix of post-cross-linked TSMs resulted in the sustained release of Dexs with high molecular weights, heparin, and lysozyme for up to 7 days in the release test. Furthermore, the solute diffusivities of the dextran derivatives in the bulk alginate matrix were measured by using fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, which supported the release kinetics of TSMs. Drug-loaded TSMs have potential as drug carriers for biopharmaceuticals, such as proteins.

Abstract
Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for the treatment of esophageal mucosal lesions often leads to postoperative stenosis, causing difficulty in swallowing, known as dysphagia. In this study, we developed an in situ cross-linkable powder composed of alginate, gelatin, transglutaminase (TG), and calcium chloride ions (Ca2+), which can be administered through a 1.5 m-long and 3.2 mm-diameter endoscopic instrument channel. The powdered mixture of alginate and gelatin quickly formed a hydrogel by absorbing body fluids and was cross-linked by TG and Ca2+, which adhered ex vivo to porcine submucosal layers for over 2 weeks. In addition, we developed a new submucosal exfoliation model in rats that induced severe stenosis, similar to the ESD-induced stenosis models in clinical practice. When administered to the new rat model, the powder system effectively reduced the severity of esophageal stenosis based on body weight change monitoring, anatomical findings, and histological analysis. The body weight of the rats was maintained at the initial weight on postoperative day 14 (POD14), and epithelialization on POD7 and 14 improved to almost 100%. Additionally, collagen accumulation and the number of α-SMA-positive cells decreased due to powder administration. Therefore, these findings indicate that the in situ cross-linkable powder can prevent esophageal stenosis after ESD.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Whole-brain irradiation has often been used for metastatic brain tumors and in prophylactic irradiation, but there are few reports on the frequency of cognitive decline and brain atrophy. We attempted to adapt an objective method of measuring brain atrophy to patients after whole-brain irradiation, Using Voxel based morphometry (VBM) measured from MRI to determine if brain atrophy has occurred one year after whole brain irradiation. VBM is a method to measure the change in signal intensity when an atrophic brain is transformed into a normal brain by Deformable Image Registration. MATERIALS/METHODS We use VBM to measure brain atrophy before and one year after irradiation in patients who received whole brain irradiation at our institution. The MRI used for the analysis was a contrast-enhanced T1-weighted image, Sagittal cross-sectional images of 1 mm thickness were obtained from the whole brain using the 3D variable flip angle turbo spin echo sequence, which is clinically used at our hospital for the cancer patient's management. The subjects were 28 patients who had undergone whole-brain irradiation at our hospital and for whom MRIs were available before treatment and after one year. The cases analyzed included patients who received prophylactic Cranial irradiation (PCI) in cases of small cell lung cancer obtained complete remission. Z-scores obtained from the medial temporal lobe were compared before and after whole brain irradiation treatment to quantitatively assess brain atrophy. The Z-score is the normalized difference between the voxel values obtained from the normal group average and the individual case. There were 15 cases of lung cancer, 5 cases of malignant lymphoma, 5 cases of breast cancer, and 3 cases of various types of cancer, with an average age of 65 years. Cases with tumors or brain edema in the vicinity of the hippocampus were excluded. Various irradiation doses were used, but the commonly used radiation doses were 23.4 Gy/13Fr (lymphoma), 25 Gy/10 Fr (PCI), 35 Gy/14 Fr (multiple metastasis). RESULTS A Paired-samples one sided t-test was performed to Mean z-score of positive values within the medial temporal lobe before and one year after whole brain irradiation. This number reflects the degree of atrophy within the region of interest and is determined as mild atrophy if it is greater than 1.0. The mean Z-score was found to increase at a risk of 0.01 after whole brain irradiation. This means that brain atrophy is progressing after whole brain irradiation. CONCLUSION Hippocampal atrophy becomes apparent about a year after whole brain irradiation. It suggests that brain atrophy occurs after radiotherapy. The problem with this study is that the effects of chemotherapy-induced brain atrophy and aging cannot be ruled out.

Abstract
G protein-coupled receptor 81 (GPR81), a selective receptor for lactate, expresses in skeletal muscle cells, but the physiological role of GPR81 in skeletal muscle has not been fully elucidated. As it has been reported that the lactate administration induces muscle hypertrophy, the stimulation of GPR81 has been suggested to mediate muscle hypertrophy. To clarify the contribution of GPR81 activation in skeletal muscle hypertrophy, in the present study, we investigated the effect of GPR81 agonist administration on skeletal muscle mass in mice. Male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into control group and GPR81 agonist-administered group that received oral administration of the specific GPR81 agonist 3-Chloro-5-hydroxybenzoic acid (CHBA). In both fast-twitch plantaris and slow-twitch soleus muscles of mice, the protein expression of GPR81 was observed. Oral administration of CHBA to mice significantly increased absolute muscle weight and muscle weight relative to body weight in the two muscles. Moreover, both absolute and relative muscle protein content in the two muscles were significantly increased by CHBA administration. CHBA administration also significantly upregulated the phosphorylation level of p42/44 extracellular signal-regulated kinase-1/2 (ERK1/2) and p90 ribosomal S6 kinase (p90RSK). These observations suggest that activation of GRP81 stimulates increased the mass of two types of skeletal muscle in mice in vivo. Lactate receptor GPR81 may positively affect skeletal muscle mass through activation of ERK pathway.

Abstract
The nuclear envelope (NE) is often challenged by various stresses (known as "NE stress"), leading to its dysfunction. Accumulating evidence has proven the pathological relevance of NE stress in numerous diseases ranging from cancer to neurodegenerative diseases. Although several proteins involved in the reassembly of the NE after mitosis have been identified as the NE repair factors, the regulatory mechanisms modulating the efficiency of NE repair remain unclear. Here, we showed that response to NE stress varied among different types of cancer cell lines. U251MG derived from glioblastoma exhibited severe nuclear deformation and massive DNA damage at the deformed nuclear region upon mechanical NE stress. In contrast, another cell line derived from glioblastoma, U87MG, only presented mild nuclear deformation without DNA damage. Time-lapse imaging demonstrated that repairing of ruptured NE often failed in U251MG, but not in U87MG. These differences were unlikely to have been due to weakened NE in U251MG because the expression levels of lamin A/C, determinants of the physical property of the NE, were comparable and loss of compartmentalization across the NE was observed just after laser ablation of the NE in both cell lines. U251MG proliferated more rapidly than U87MG concomitant with reduced expression of p21, a major inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinases, suggesting a correlation between NE stress response and cell cycle progression. Indeed, visualization of cell cycle stages using fluorescent ubiquitination-based cell cycle indicator reporters revealed greater resistance of U251MG to NE stress at G1 phase than at S and G2 phases. Furthermore, attenuation of cell cycle progression by inducing p21 in U251MG counteracted the nuclear deformation and DNA damage upon NE stress. These findings imply that dysregulation of cell cycle progression in cancer cells causes loss of the NE integrity and its consequences such as DNA damage and cell death upon mechanical NE stress.

Abstract
Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) play a crucial role in liver fibrosis by producing excessive extracellular matrix (ECM) following chronic inflammation. However, studying HSC function has been challenging due to the limited availability of primary human quiescent HSCs (qHSCs) in vitro, and the fact that primary qHSCs quickly activate when cultured on plastic plates. Advances in stem cell technology have allowed for the generation of qHSCs from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) with the potential to provide an unlimited source of cells. However, differentiated quiescent-like HSCs (iqHSCs) also activate spontaneously on conventional plastic plates. In this study, we generated iqHSCs from hiPSCs and developed a culture method to maintain such iqHSCs in a lowly activated state for up to 5 days by optimizing their physical culture microenvironment. We observed that three-dimensional (3D) culture of iqHSCs in soft type 1 collagen hydrogels significantly inhibited their spontaneous activation in vitro while maintaining their ability to convert to activated state. Activation of iqHSC was successfully modeled by stimulating them with the fibrotic cytokine TGFβ1. Hence, our culture method can be used to generate HSCs with functions comparable to those in a healthy liver, facilitating the development of accurate in vitro liver models for identifying novel therapeutic agents.

Abstract
Microglia and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) are essential for the neuroplasticity that characterizes critical developmental periods. The experience-dependent development of social behaviors-associated with the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC)-has a critical period during the juvenile period in mice. However, whether microglia and BDNF affect social development remains unclear. Herein, we aimed to elucidate the effects of microglia-derived BDNF on social behaviors and mPFC development. Mice that underwent social isolation during p21-p35 had increased Bdnf in the microglia accompanied by reduced adulthood sociability. Additionally, transgenic mice overexpressing microglia Bdnf-regulated using doxycycline at different time points-underwent behavioral, electrophysiological, and gene expression analyses. In these mice, long-term overexpression of microglia BDNF impaired sociability and excessive mPFC inhibitory neuronal circuit activity. However, administration of doxycycline to normalize BDNF from p21 normalized sociability and electrophysiological functions; this was not observed when BDNF was normalized from a later age (p45-p50). To evaluate the possible role of BDNF in human sociability, we analyzed the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and BDNF expression in human macrophages, a possible substitute for microglia. Results show that adverse childhood experiences positively correlated with BDNF expression in M2 but not M1 macrophages. Thus, microglia BDNF might regulate sociability and mPFC maturation in mice during the juvenile period. Furthermore, childhood experiences in humans may be related to BDNF secretion from macrophages.

Abstract
Supplementing sufficient oxygen to cells is always challenging in biomedical engineering fields such as tissue engineering. Originating from the concept of a 'blood substitute', nano-sized artificial oxygen carriers (AOCs) have been studied for a long time for the optimization of the oxygen supplementation and improvement of hypoxia environments in vitro and in vivo. When circulating in our bodies, micro-sized human red blood cells (hRBCs) feature a high oxygen capacity, a unique biconcave shape, biomechanical and rheological properties, and low frictional surfaces, making them efficient natural oxygen carriers. Inspired by hRBCs, recent studies have focused on evolving different AOCs into microparticles more feasibly able to achieve desired architectures and morphologies and to obtain the corresponding advantages. Recent micro-sized AOCs have been developed into additional categories based on their principal oxygen-carrying or oxygen-releasing materials. Various biomaterials such as lipids, proteins, and polymers have also been used to prepare oxygen carriers owing to their rapid oxygen transfer, high oxygen capacity, excellent colloidal stability, biocompatibility, suitable biodegradability, and long storage. In this review, we concentrated on the fabrication techniques, applied biomaterials, and design considerations of micro-sized AOCs to illustrate the advances in their performances. We also compared certain recent micro-sized AOCs with hRBCs where applicable and appropriate. Furthermore, we discussed existing and potential applications of different types of micro-sized AOCs.

Abstract
The development of nanotechnology has been advancing for decades and gained acceleration in the 21st century. Two-dimensional (2D) materials are widely available, giving them a wide range of material platforms for technological study and the advancement of atomic-level applications. The design and application of 2D materials are discussed in this review. In order to evaluate the performance of 2D materials, which might lead to greater applications benefiting the electrical and electronics sectors as well as society, the future paradigm of 2D materials needs to be visualized. The development of 2D hybrid materials with better characteristics that will help industry and society at large is anticipated to result from intensive research in 2D materials. This enhanced evaluation might open new opportunities for the synthesis of 2D materials and the creation of devices that are more effective than traditional ones in various sectors of application.

Abstract
CREB/ATF transcription factor OASIS/CREB3L1 is upregulated in long-term-cultured astrocytes undergoing cell-cycle arrest due to loss of DNA integrity by repeated replication. However, the roles of OASIS in the cell cycle remain unexplored. We find that OASIS arrests the cell cycle at G2/M phase after DNA damage via direct induction of p21. Cell-cycle arrest by OASIS is dominant in astrocytes and osteoblasts, but not in fibroblasts, which are dependent on p53. In a brain injury model, Oasis-/- reactive astrocytes surrounding the lesion core show sustained growth and inhibition of cell-cycle arrest, resulting in prolonged gliosis. We find that some glioma patients exhibit low expression of OASIS due to high methylation of its promoter. Specific removal of this hypermethylation in glioblastomas transplanted into nude mice by epigenomic engineering suppresses the tumorigenesis. These findings suggest OASIS as a critical cell-cycle inhibitor with potential to act as a tumor suppressor.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A few studies have been reported on the influence of fetal hiccups on umbilical artery. The aim of this study is to clarify the influence of fetal hiccups on Doppler blood flow waveform (DBFW) of some fetal arteries, and to show the difference in these influences among fetal arteries. OBJECTIVE DBFW of umbilical artery, descending aorta, and middle cerebral artery were recorded at hiccups in normal fetuses between 34th and 40th gestational weeks. The changes on DBFW were classified into three shapes by the direction and the size of the changes. Shape 1: sharp decrease but not to the baseline, Shape 2: sharp decrease to the baseline (absence), and Shape 3: reverse flow. RESULTS At all hiccups, the changes on DBFW of these arteries were observed. These changes were classified into three shapes. Changes of umbilical artery were widely distributed in three shapes depending on when hiccup occurred during cardiac cycle. On the other hand, most changes of the descending aorta and middle cerebral artery were Shape 3 whenever the hiccup occurred during cardiac cycle. CONCLUSION The changes on DBFW of fetal arteries were observed at all hiccups. Changes of umbilical artery were widely distributed in three shapes depending on when hiccup occurred during cardiac cycle. On the other hand, most changes of descending aorta and middle cerebral artery were Shape 3. This is the first study clarified the influence of fetal hiccups on DBFW of some fetal arteries, and showed the difference in these influences among fetal arteries.

Abstract
We developed a new muco-adhesive hydrogel composed of cationic guar gum (CGG) and boric acid (BA). The CGG-BA precursor solution of 0.5-2% w/v concentration exhibited fluidity at low pH (3-5), while gelation occurred within 1 min at physiological pH (7-8) conditions. Scanning electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy results confirmed the change in physical and chemical behavior, respectively, with change in pH. The pH-responsive self-healing ability was analyzed through microscopy and rheology. CGG-BA hydrogels showed good self-healing property at pH 7.4. The in vitro biocompatibility test of the hydrogel studied using NIH3T3 and NHEK cells showed that it was non-toxic at concentrations of CGG-BA below 2% w/v. Ex vivo mucoadhesive tests confirmed the hydrogel's potential for use as a muco-adhesive. Burst pressure tests were conducted using pig esophageal mucosa and the results showed that at pH 7.4, 1% w/v CGG-BA self-healable hydrogel resisted about 8 ± 2 kPa pressure, comparable to that of Fibrin glue. This was higher than that at solution (pH 5) and brittle gel (pH 10) conditions. To confirm the good adhesive strength of the self-healable hydrogels, lap shear tests conducted, resulted in adhesive strengths measured in the range of 1.0 ± 0.5-2.0 ± 0.6 kPa, which was also comparable to fibrin glue control 1.8 ± 0.6 kPa. Hydrogel weight measurements showed that 40-80% gel lasted under physiological conditions for 10 h. The results suggest that CGG-BA hydrogel has potential as a pH responsive mucosal protectant biomaterial.

Abstract
Stimuli-responsive star polymers are promising functional materials whose aggregation, adhesion, and interaction with cells can be altered by applying suitable stimuli. Among several stimuli assessed, the potassium ion (K+), which is known to be captured by crown ethers, is of considerable interest because of the role it plays in the body. In this study, a K+-responsive star copolymer was developed using a polyglycerol (PG) core and grafted copolymer arms consisting of a thermo-responsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) unit, a metal ion-recognizing benzo-18-crown-6-acrylamide unit, and a photoluminescent fluorescein O-methacrylate unit. Via optimization of grafting density and copolymerization ratio of grafted arms, along with the use of hydrophilic hyperbranched core, microsized aggregates with a diameter of 5.5 μm were successfully formed in the absence of K+ ions without inducing severe sedimentation (the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) was 35.6 °C). In the presence of K+ ions, these aggregates dispersed due to the shift in LCST (47.2 °C at 160 mM K+), which further induced the activation of fluorescence that was quenched in the aggregated state. Furthermore, macrophage targeting based on the micron-sized aggregation state and subsequent fluorescence activation of the developed star copolymers in response to an increase in intracellular K+ concentration were performed as a potential K+ probe or K+-responsive drug delivery vehicle.

Abstract
Despite recent significant progress in real-time, large-area computer-generated holography, its memory requirements and computational loads will be hard to tackle for several decades to come with the current paradigm based on a priori calculations and bit-plane writing to a spatial light modulator. Here we experimentally demonstrate a holistic approach to serial computation and repeatable writing of computer-generated dynamic holograms without Fourier transform, using minimal amounts of computer memory. We use the ultrafast opto-magnetic recording of holographic patterns in a ferrimagnetic film with femtosecond laser pulses, driven by the on-the-fly hardware computation of a single holographic point. The intensity-threshold nature of the magnetic medium allows sub-diffraction-limited, point-by-point toggling of arbitrarily localized magnetic spots on the sample, according to the proposed circular detour-phase encoding, providing complex modulation and symmetrical suppression of upper diffractive orders and conjugated terms in holographically reconstructed 3-D images. Holography recreates both the amplitude and wave front of a three dimensional object, meaning that the observer perceives the image in the nearly same way as they would the true object. Creating such holographic images is challenging computationally, and requires extremely fast display update. Here, the authors combine a fast memoryless computation algorithm with the ultra-rapid writing based on all-optical switching of a ferrimagnetic film.

Abstract
Ethylene response factors (ERFs) comprise one of the largest transcription factor families in many plant species. Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) ERF3 (NtERF3) and other ERF-associated amphiphilic repression (EAR) motif-containing ERFs are known to function as transcriptional repressors. NtERF3 and several repressor-type ERFs induce cell death in tobacco leaves and are also associated with a defence response against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). We investigated whether transcriptional activator-type NtERFs function together with NtERF3 in the defence response against TMV infection by performing transient ectopic expression, together with gene expression, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and promoter analyses. Transient overexpression of NtERF2 and NtERF4 induced cell death in tobacco leaves, albeit later than that induced by NtERF3. Fusion of the EAR motif to the C-terminal end of NtERF2 and NtERF4 abolished their cell death-inducing ability. The expression of NtERF2 and NtERF4 was upregulated at the early phase of N gene-triggered hypersensitive response (HR) against TMV infection. The cell death phenotype induced by overexpression of wild-type NtERF2 and NtERF4 was suppressed by co-expression of an EAR motif-deficient form of NtERF3. Furthermore, ChIP and promoter analyses suggested that NtERF2, NtERF3 and NtERF4 positively or negatively regulate the expression of NtERF3 by binding to its promoter region. Overall, our results revealed the cell death-inducing abilities of genes encoding activator-type NtERFs, including NtERF2 and NtERF4, suggesting that the HR-cell death signalling via the repressor-type NtERF3 is competitively but coordinately regulated by these NtERFs.

Abstract
BackgroundHypertrophic pachymeningitis (HP), characterized by an inflammatory disorder indicating intracranial or spinal thickening of dura mater, is found to develop as a neurological involvement in antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV). Meanwhile, the previous studies focusing on HP in AAV have been reported as a single-institution study, and the analyses were performed in a small number of patients because HP is a rare neurological disorder. Therefore, neither etiological nor clinical characteristics of HP in AAV have been adequately elucidated.ObjectivesThis study clarified the characteristics of HP in AAV by analyzing the information of multicenter study in Japan (Japan collaborative registry of ANCA-associated vasculitis: J-CANVAS).MethodsWe analyzed the clinical information from 541 Asian patients with AAV enrolled in J-CANVAS. Of them, newly diagnosed and relapsed AAV were included in 448 and 93, respectively. The epidemiological and clinical findings were compared between patients with and without HP. Clinical manifestations related to AAV were evaluated based on the Birmingham Vasculitis Activity Score version 3. To elucidate independent factors in HP development, logistic regression analyses were additionally performed.ResultsOf the total 541 patients (mean age: 71±14 years, M:F = 1:1.2), HP was demonstrated in 28 (5.17%), including 17 (3.79%) in newly diagnosed AAV and 11 (11.8%) in relapsed AAV. The classification of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) was significantly higher in patients with HP than those without HP (50% vs. 21%, p = 0.0007). In newly diagnosed AAV, patients with HP significantly had higher GPA classification and higher positivity for PR3-ANCA than those without HP (53% vs. 17%, p = 0.001; 29% vs. 9%, p = 0.015, respectively). Conversely, positivity for MPO-ANCA was significantly higher in patients with HP than those without HP in relapsed AAV (91% vs. 55%, p = 0.025), despite not significantly different in the classification of AAV. Headache and cranial neuropathies were significant neurological symptoms in patients with HP compared to those without HP (82% vs. 6.6%, p < 0.0001; 32% vs. 2.9%, p < 0.0001, respectively). Besides, ear, nose and throat (ENT) and mucous membranes/eyes were significantly higher involvements in patients with HP than in those without HP (54% vs. 26%, p = 0.003; 29% vs. 9%, p = 0.003, respectively). Moreover, higher complications of “conjunctive hearing loss” and “sudden visual loss”, which are included in the categories of ENT and mucous membranes/eyes involvement, respectively, were significantly indicated in patients with HP than those without HP (39% vs. 7.2%, p < 0.0001; 21% vs. 1.2%, p < 0.0001, respectively). Multivariable logistic regression analysis identified that ENT (odds ratio [OR] 1.28, 95% confident interval [CI] 1.09 to 1.49, p = 0.002) and mucous membranes/eyes involvement (OR 1.37, CI 1.14 to 1.65, p = 0.0006), as well as conjunctive hearing loss (OR 4.52, CI 1.56 to 13.05, p = 0.005) and sudden visual loss (OR 1.84, CI 1.12 to 3.00, p = 0.015), were independent related factors in patients with HP.ConclusionGPA could be significantly classified in patients with HP. Notably, patients with HP significantly showed higher positivity for PR3-ANCA than those without HP in newly diagnosed AAV. Abstract
BackgroundCytomegalovirus (CMV) has been associated with atherosclerosis in patients with chronic renal failure, and may cause secondary nephrotic syndrome. Therefore, we hypothesized that the reactivation of CMV by immunosuppressive therapy in patients with vasculitis may affect renal function.ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to investigate relationships between CMV infection and renal function during ANCA-associated vasculitis remission induction therapy.MethodsThis retrospective cohort study enrolled microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis patients at 25 sites in Japan who had a first or severe relapse between January 2017 and June 2020. Of these, patients with MPA or GPA who had a positive renal lesion score on BVAS (version 3) at baseline, or vasculitis findings on renal biopsy, CMV assayed by 48 weeks of treatment, were included. Patients were divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of a positive CMV antigen test during the remission induction phase (0–48 weeks of treatment). Outcomes were the rate of change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) at 48 weeks after initiation of treatment in both groups, as determined by (eGFR at 48 weeks - eGFR at the initiation of treatment)/eGFR at the initiation of treatment; where lower values were associated with worse renal function. General linear models adjusted for age, gender, presence of diabetes or chronic kidney disease, and the use of rituximab or cyclophosphamide were generated.ResultsA total of 387 patients had CMV antigen measured during ANCA-associated vasculitis treatment, of which 164 had renal involvement and eGFR measured at 48 weeks. Seventy-seven (47.0%) were male and the median age was 75 years (range 69–80 years). CMV reactivation was observed in 44 patients (26.8%). The beta coefficient of multiple regression analysis with CMV positive as 1 and negative as 0 was 0.08 (95% confidence interval -0.13 to 0.29) (p = 0.47). The rate of change in eGFR was higher in the CMV positive group, but not statistically significantly.ConclusionContrary to our hypothesis, renal prognoses tended to be better when CMV reactivation was observed. The patients in the CMV reactivation group may have been treated more aggressively, and some patients with a poor prognosis who were not followed up for 48 weeks dropped out. Abstract
BackgroundAntineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody -associated vasculitis (AAV) is usually treated with combination of high-dose glucocorticoid (GC) and immunosuppressive agents, followed by tapering GC dose. Although the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) has specific recommendations for tapering the GC dose, clinicians often taper it slower than recommended due to concerns of potential disease relapse. However, such slower taper may prolong GC exposure for the patients, increasing the risk of adverse events, particularly infection.ObjectivesThe aims of our study were (1) to clarify GC dose tapering in the treatment of AAV in a real-world setting, in contrast to the EULAR recommendation of 2015 and (2) to compare the incidence of AAV relapse and severe infection between patients underdoing EULAR-recommended tapering and those undergoing slower tapering than the recommendation.MethodsIn this multicenter (25 sites in Japan), observational, retrospective study of AAV, 541 patients who had initial or severe relapse were enrolled between January 2017 and June 2020. Of these, 349 patients with microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) or granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) who entered in GC tapering phase after successful induction treatment were included. These patients were then grouped on the pace of GC tapering, defined as the GC dose at 12 weeks after treatment initiation: (1) EULAR group: 7.5-10 mg/day of GC, according to the EULAR recommendation of 2015, and (2) SLOWER group: >10 mg/day of GC. Their baseline characteristics and clinical outcomes were compared. Primary outcome was defined as relapse-free days from treatment initiation, whereas secondary outcome included the incidence of infectious events requiring hospitalization within 48 weeks from treatment initiation. Multivariable analysis was performed to assess the relationship between tapering pace and clinical outcomes.ResultsThere were 44 patients (12.6%) in the EULAR group and 290 (83.2%) in the SLOWER group. Regarding baseline characteristics, compared with the EULAR group, the SLOWER group had significantly higher serum C-reactive protein level (EULAR, 5.89 ± 6.89 mg/dL vs SLOWER, 7.56 ± 6.01 mg/dL; p = 0.03), as well as a trend toward higher Birmingham Vasculitis Activity Score (version 3) (EULAR, 11.80 ± 7.01 SLOWER, 13.93 ± 7.06; p = 0.08) We did not observe any significant differences in the frequency of relapses between the two groups (EULAR, 8/44, 18.2% vs SLOWER, 55/290, 19.0%; p = 0.63). Multivariable Cox proportional hazard analysis revealed no relationship GC dose at 12 weeks from treatment initiation and incidence of relapse. However, upon logistic regression analysis, the SLOWER group was found to have significant higher risk of a severe infectious event within 48 weeks from treatment initiation (p = 0.046; hazard ratio, 1.27; 95% confidence interval, 1.004 – 1.601).ConclusionOur finding indicates that clinicians tended to taper GC slower for patients with higher disease activity. However, slower GC taper was not found to reduce the frequency of relapse. In addition, slower GC taper was found to increase the risk of a severe infection. Abstract
In surgery, both antiperitoneal adhesion barriers and hemostats with high efficiency and excellent handling are necessary. However, antiadhesion and hemostasis have been examined separately. In this study, six different ultrapure alginate bilayer sponges with thicknesses of 10, 50, 100, 200, 300, and 500 μm were fabricated via lyophilization and subsequent mechanical compression. Compression significantly enhanced mechanical strength and improved handling. Furthermore, it had a complex effect on dissolution time and contact angle. Therefore, the 100 μm compressed sponge showed the highest hemostatic activity in the liver bleeding model in mice, whereas the 200 μm sponge demonstrated the highest antiadhesion efficacy among the compressed sponges in a Pean crush hepatectomy-induced adhesion model in rats. For the first time, we systematically evaluated the effect of sponge compression on foldability, fluid absorption, mechanical strength, hemostatic effect, and antiadhesion properties. The optimum thickness of an alginate bilayer sponge by compression balances antiperitoneal adhesion and hemostasis simultaneously.

Abstract
In semiconductor device history, a trend is observed where narrowing and increasing the number of material layers improve device functionality, with diodes, transistors, thyristors, and superlattices following this trend. While superlattices promise unique functionality, they are not widely adopted due to a technology barrier, requiring advanced fabrication, such as molecular beam epitaxy and lattice-matched materials. Here, a method to design quantum devices using amorphous materials and physical vapor deposition is presented. It is shown that the multiplication gain M depends on the number of layers of the superlattice, N, as M = kN, with k as a factor indicating the efficiency of multiplication. This M is, however, a trade-off with transit time, which also depends on N. To demonstrate, photodetector devices are fabricated on Si, with the superlattice of Se and As2Se3, and characterized using current-voltage (I-V) and current-time (I-T) measurements. For superlattices with the total layer thicknesses of 200 nm and 2 μm, the results show that k200nm = 0.916 and k2μm = 0.384, respectively. The results confirm that the multiplication factor is related to the number of superlattice layers, showing the effectiveness of the design approach.

Abstract
Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is one of the intractable cancers that require a more effective therapeutic strategy for clinical practice. Hyaluronic acid (HA) nanogels were prepared by the chelation of cisplatin (CDDP) with different molecular weights of iminodiacetic acid-conjugated hyaluronic acid (HA-IDA). The sizes of the 100, 850, and 2000 kDa HA nanogels were 33, 43, and 44 nm, respectively. MSTO-211H, a human MPM cell line, was more effective in taking up all three HA nanogels compared to AB22, a mouse MPM cell line. In addition, the 850 kDa HA nanogel showed higher anticancer activity against AB22 and MSTO-211H than 100 and 2000 kDa HA nanogels. Furthermore, all the HA nanogels showed a milder cytotoxic effect on normal Met-5A mesothelial cells compared to that exhibited by free CDDP. Finally, the 850 kDa HA nanogel was administrated intrapleurally into both the MSTO-211H xenograft and AB22 allograft mouse models of MPM using an injectable HA-based hydrogel. HA nanogels showed a significant therapeutic effect in both the xenograft and allograft models.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Our human observational study showed that elevated arginine vasopressin levels by heavy exercise, not catecholamines, were associated with elevated serum tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase 5b (TRACP-5b). The increase in serum calcium was positively associated with percent changes of TRACP-5b, implying the involvement of bone resorption in the pathogenesis of exercise-induced hypercalcemia. INTRODUCTION It remains unclear whether enhanced bone resorption explains exercise-induced hypercalcemia. An experimental study demonstrated that arginine vasopressin (AVP) stimulated osteoclast activity. METHODS We conducted a prospective observational study, enrolling 65 trained healthy male officers of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (34 and 31 in waves 1 and 2, respectively). Before and after a 5-h heavy exercise, we collected laboratory data including bone markers, symptoms, and ionized calcium (iCa; wave 2 only). As blood calcium levels change after exercise, we estimated calcium (corrected calcium) levels immediately after the exercise using the correlation between blood calcium and time from the end of exercise in another cohort. RESULTS Body weight decreased by 6.9% after the exercise. Corrected post-exercise serum total calcium (tCa) and iCa levels were significantly higher than pre-exercise levels, and 18% of participants showed hypercalcemia defined as corrected tCa >10.4 mg/dL or iCa >1.30 mmol/L. Serum tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase 5b (TRACP-5b), plasma three fractions of catecholamines, and AVP elevated significantly (median 14.3 pg/mL), while procollagen type 1 N-terminal propeptide and whole parathyroid hormone showed significant decreases. Corrected tCa increase showed a non-linear positive association with percent changes of TRACP-5b (%ΔTRACP-5b) even after adjustment for confounders. In addition, %ΔTRACP-5b was not associated with catecholamines, but with post-exercise AVP levels after adjustment for pre-exercise TRACP-5b. Symptoms of nausea or vomiting (observed in 20%) were positively associated with corrected post-exercise iCa after adjustment for post-exercise blood pH. CONCLUSION AVP elevation may explain bone resorption and the following hypercalcemia in the setting of heavy exercise.

Abstract
Recently, automatic feeders have become popular for collecting daily feed intake data in the pig industry, making it possible to evaluate genetic effects on feed efficiency and resilience traits, expressed as day-to-day fluctuations in feeding records. This study aimed to understand the influence of genetic factors on feed efficiency traits, including residual intake and BW gain (RIG), and resilience traits, as well as to compare the differences in genetic parameter estimates among three purebred pig breeds. A total of 6 103 pigs from three breeds (Large White: 1 193 pigs, Landrace: 3 010 pigs, and Duroc: 1 900 pigs) were raised in a specific pathogen-free environment. The growth and feed intake records during the testing period were obtained using automatic feeders, and the average daily gain (ADG) and average feed intake (AFI) were calculated. Feed conversion ratio (FCR), residual feed intake (RFI), residual gain, and RIG were calculated as feed efficiency traits, and the log-transformed variance of deviation for the daily feed intake (LnVar_FI), daily occupation time (LnVar_OC), and the daily number of visits to the feeder (LnVar_VT) was calculated as resilience traits. After estimating the genetic parameters for each breed, a meta-analysis was performed to obtain the weighted mean of heritability estimates (hm2) and genetic correlation estimates (GCm) for the three breeds. The hm2 were moderate and ranged from 0.31 to 0.39 for feed efficiency traits and 0.31 to 0.40 for resilience traits, and there were no significant differences in heritability estimates among the three breeds except for AFI, RFI, and RIG. For feed efficiency traits, the FCR and RIG showed favourably moderate GCm with AFI (0.29 and -0.33, respectively) and ADG (-0.39 and 0.31, respectively). For resilience traits, the LnVar_FI and LnVar_VT showed favourably low to moderate GCm with FCR (0.33 and 0.28, respectively) and RIG (-0.37 and 0.28, respectively), and there were no genetic relationships of LnVar_OC with FCR and RIG (the absolute value of GCm was 0.01). There was no significant difference in the genetic correlation estimates among the three breeds for feed efficiency and resilience traits. Our results suggest that feed efficiency and resilience traits were heritable, and resilience traits showed favourable or no genetic correlation with feed efficiency traits. In addition, the influence of genetic factors on feed efficiency and resilience traits could be the same among breeds.

Abstract
Intraperitoneal chemotherapy demonstrates potential applicability in the treatment of peritoneally disseminated ovarian cancer because the disseminated tumors can directly receive exposure to high concentrations of anticancer drugs. However, a considerable proportion of drugs, particularly micromolecular and hydrophilic drugs, such as cisplatin (CDDP), are often excreted through glomerular filtration for a short period. To effectively deliver CDDP into peritoneally disseminated ovarian cancer tissues, we developed an alginate (AL)-based hybrid system in which a CDDP-loaded AL nanogel (AL/CDDP-nanogel) was encapsulated in an injectable AL-hydrogel cross-linked with calcium ions. This system enabled the sustained release of CDDP from the AL/CDDP-nanogel/AL-hydrogel hybrid for over a week. Herein, we constructed a peritoneally disseminated ovarian cancer mouse model using ovarian cancer cell lines with KRAS mutations (ID8-KRAS: KRASG12V). The AL/CDDP-nanogel/AL-hydrogel hybrid system showed significant antitumor activity in vivo. This therapy may be considered a novel strategy for the treatment of advanced-stage ovarian cancer with KRAS mutations.

Abstract
In order to improve the quality of life of dialysis patients, our group have been developing an implantable hemofiltration device (IHFD) composed of multiple layers of dialysis membranes and microfluidic channels. To improve the hemodialysis performance of IHFD, preventing the negative filtration, which is caused by the oncotic pressure of blood, is mandatory. In this study, we fabricated IHFDs with five different microchannel designs and experimentally investigated the performance of each device in in vitro experiment. In addition, the successful IHFD was further evaluated by ex vivo experiments with a beagle dog. The experiments verified the effectiveness of the microchannel design, which will be used for the IHFD for in vivo experiments with pigs in the future.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The buccal bone in an edentulous maxilla loses thickness over time because of physiological changes. However, the dimensional changes of the buccal bone in an edentulous maxilla with an implant-supported fixed dental prosthesis are unknown. PURPOSE The purpose of this retrospective clinical study was to evaluate cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of the dimensional changes of the buccal bone in edentulous maxillae with complete-arch telescopic-retained implant-supported fixed dental prostheses (CTI-FDPs) after 6 years by using a professional retrieval system. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study included 17 participants with edentulous maxillae who had been provided with CTI-FDP with 121 taper joint implants. A three-dimensional radiographic analysis by using CBCT was performed at implant insertion (0 years) and after 6 years. Vertical and horizontal bone measurement values were evaluated. During horizontal bone thickness measurement, 4 different levels, 0, 2, 4, and 6 mm apical to the implant shoulder, were evaluated as bone value (BV)0mm, BV2mm, BV4mm, and BV6mm, respectively. The BVs were compared with the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and Kruskal-Wallis test (α=.05). In addition, the Spearman rank correlation coefficient was used to identify 0yBV factors that influence the 6yBVs. A nonlinear regression analysis was used to clarify the slopes of 0yBVs and 6yBV0mm. RESULTS Significant decreases in vertical and horizontal BVs were found between 0 years and 6 years (P<.05). However, no significant difference was observed in bone loss at 6 years at any of the vertical and horizontal measurement points (P≥.05). When 0yBVs related to 6yBV0mm were analyzed, 0yBV0mm and 0yBV2mm showed strong correlations with 6yBV0mm (|r|≥.7). In the regression analysis, a 0yBV0mm of 0.58 mm and 0yBV2mm of 0.78 mm could be critical factors associated with a 6yBV0mm of 0 mm. A 6yBV0mm of 0yBV0mm more than 0.58 mm was significantly higher than a 6yBV0mm of 0yBV0mm less than 0.58 mm (P<.001). Moreover, a 6yBV0mm of 0yBV2mm more than 0.78 mm was significantly higher than a 6yBV0mm of 0yBV2mm less than 0.78 mm (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS The buccal bone in an edentulous maxilla with fixed implant-supported prostheses lost significant vertical and horizontal bone thicknesses after 6 years. At implant insertion, both a 0.58-mm buccal bone on the platform and a 0.78-mm buccal bone at 2 mm apical to the implant shoulder are necessary for longer term maintenance of bone on the platform of implants specifically supporting CTI-FDPs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The mechanisms underlying the onset and progression of peri-implantitis are similar to those of periodontitis, and the causative bacteria are believed to similar. Previous studies support an association between peri-implantitis and periodontal pathogen. Thus, we investigated the bacterial flora of peri-implantitis patients in comparison to those of healthy implant and periodontitis patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS In total, 70 patients visiting Tokyo Dental College Chiba Hospital were divided into four groups: healthy, periodontitis, healthy implant, and peri-implantitis. For each group, the following five periodontal pathogens were detected using real-time polymerase chain reaction: Porphyromonas gingivalis, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Tannerella forsythia, Treponema denticola, and Prevotella intermedia. RESULTS The average copy number of total bacteria was significantly higher in the periodontitis group than in the other groups. P. gingivalis was detected in the periodontitis and peri-implantitis groups at levels as high as 18.92% and 12.29%, respectively, and P. intermedia was found in the peri-implantitis group at a rate of 2.06%. Nevertheless, periodontal pathogens were generally detected at lower levels in the peri-implantitis group than in the periodontitis group. CONCLUSION We found lower bacterial counts in the peri-implantitis group relative to the periodontitis group. Our results suggest that the peri-implant tissue is less resistant to bacteria, so even a small number of bacteria can be a risk factor for peri-implantitis and the causative agent of peri-implantitis can be bacteria other than periodontal pathogen.

Abstract
One serious complication in implant surgery is displacement of the implant body into the surrounding tissue. This occurs only rarely in the mandible, however. This report describes a case of an implant body displacing into the medullary cavity of the mandible and discusses this in reference to the literature. The patient was a 72-year-old woman who was referred to our department at Tokyo Dental College Chiba Hospital (now Chiba Dental Center) by her regular dentist after an implant inserted in the left mandible in 2010 showed loosening in October 2016. Panoramic X-rays obtained at the initial examination revealed that 2 implants had been inserted into the left mandible, one on top of the other. Removal of both was recommended to prevent infection at the implant site and any potential effects on the alveolar nerve. In the absence of subjective symptoms other than implant loosening, however, the patient did not consent to this proposal. Therefore, only the broken abutment was removed. The patient was instructed to contact us immediately should infection or any other symptoms appear once the mucosa had healed, and the dental clinic that had referred her to us was requested to make her a set of dentures. To our knowledge, only 11 reports have been published to date describing displacement of an implant body into the mandible, and these address a total of just 20 cases. The possibility that an implant body in the mandible may become displaced must be kept in mind during treatment.

Abstract
Background Hepatectomy with vascular resection (VR) for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (PHCC) is a challenging procedure. However, only a few reports on this procedure have been published and its clinical significance has not been fully evaluated. Methods Patients undergoing surgical resection for PHCC from 2002–2017 were studied. The surgical outcomes of VR and non-VR groups were compared. Results Some 238 patients were included. VR was performed in 85 patients. The resected vessels were hepatic artery alone (31 patients), portal vein alone (37 patients) or both (17 patients). The morbidity rates were almost the same in the VR (49.4 per cent) and non-VR (43.8 per cent) groups (P = 0.404). The mortality rates of VR (3.5 per cent) and non-VR (3.3 per cent) were also comparable (P > 0.999). The median survival time (MST) was 45 months in the non-VR group and 36 months in VR group (P = 0.124). Among patients in whom tumour involvement was suspected on preoperative imaging and whose carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) value was 37 U/ml or less, MST in the VR group was significantly longer than that in the non-VR group (50 versus 34 months, P = 0.017). In contrast, when the CA19-9 value was greater than 37 U/ml, MST of the VR and non-VR groups was comparable (28 versus 29 months, P = 0.520). Conclusion Hepatectomy with VR for PHCC can be performed in a highly specialized hepatobiliary centre with equivalent short- and long-term outcomes to hepatectomy without VR.

Abstract
Background Mogamulizumab was compared with vorinostat in the phase 3 MAVORIC trial (NCT01728805) in 372 patients with relapsed/refractory mycosis fungoides (MF) or Sézary syndrome (SS) who had failed ≥1 prior systemic therapy. Mogamulizumab significantly prolonged progression‐free survival (PFS), with a superior objective response rate (ORR) vs. vorinostat. Objectives This post hoc analysis was performed to evaluate the effect of baseline blood tumour burden on patient response to mogamulizumab. Methods PFS, ORR, time to next treatment (TTNT), skin response (modified Severity‐Weighted Assessment Tool [mSWAT]) and safety were assessed in patients stratified by blood classification (B0 [n = 126], B1 [n = 62], or B2 [n = 184], indicating increasing blood involvement). Results Investigator‐assessed PFS was longer for mogamulizumab versus vorinostat across all blood classes, significantly so for B1 and B2 patients. ORR was higher with mogamulizumab than with vorinostat in all blood classification groups and more markedly so with escalating B class (B0: 15.6% vs. 6.5%, P = 0.0549; B1: 25.8% vs. 6.5%, P = 0.2758; B2: 37.4% vs. 3.2%, P < 0.0001). TTNT was significantly longer for patients treated with mogamulizumab versus vorinostat with B1 (12.63 vs. 3.07 months; HR 0.32 [95% CI 0.16–0.67]; P = 0.0018) and B2 (13.07 vs. 3.53 months; HR 0.30 [95% CI 0.21–0.43]; P < 0.0001) blood involvement. In the mogamulizumab arm, 81 patients (43.5%) had ≥50% change in the mSWAT vs. 41 patients (22.0%) with vorinostat; mSWAT improvements with mogamulizumab occurred most often in B1 and B2 patients. Rapid, sustained reductions were seen in CD4+CD26‐ cell counts and CD4:CD8 ratios in mogamulizumab patients for all B classes. Treatment‐emergent adverse events were less frequent overall with mogamulizumab and similar in frequency regardless of B class. Conclusions This post hoc analysis indicates greater clinical benefit with mogamulizumab vs. vorinostat in patients with MF and SS classified as having B1 and B2 blood involvement.

Abstract
Background:Coronary periarteritis is one of the clinical manifestations of IgG4-related disease. It can cause serious conditions such as angina and ruptured aneurysms. Therefore, it is important to recognize the clinical and radiological characteristics, which was little known.Objectives:We report four patients with IgG4-related coronary periarteritis with a systematic literature review.Methods:We identified four patients with IgG4-related coronary periarteritis at the St. Luke’s International Hospital in Tokyo, Japan from 2014 to 2020. A systematic literature review was conducted for English articles on IgG4-related coronary periarteritis cases with a full text or abstract available. We summarized patient demographics, IgG and IgG4 titers, the site and morphological type of coronary lesion, and other organ involvements.Results:Our 4 cases and 38 cases identified by the literature review were assessed. Coronary artery lesions were detected by a coronary CT in all but two cases. Wall thickening was the most common type of the lesion. Moreover, there were 32 (76.1%) patients with other organ involvements. The commonest other lesion was peri-aortitis in 21 (50.0%) patients. In cases with peri-aortitis, IgG and IgG4 titers were significantly higher than those without peri-aortitis (IgG4; 1540 [705.0, 2570.0] vs 246.0 [160.0, 536.3]; p = 0.001, IgG; 3596.5 [2838.3, 4260.0] vs 1779.0 [1288.3, 1992.8]; p =0.040). In addition, 15 (71.4%) patients of them had three or more IgG4 related organ involvements.Conclusion:Coronary CT was a useful imaging modality for the diagnosis of IgG4-related coronary periarteritis, and wall thickening was the most common lesion. Moreover, about half cases coexisted with peri-aortitis.
