Abstract
BACKGROUND People Who Inject Drugs (PWID) are at a higher risk of acquiring bloodborne infections. We aimed to estimate the seroprevalence of the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) in PWID and identify correlates and risk factors using data from the Puerto Rico National HIV Behavioral Surveillance System, PWID cycle 5, conducted in 2018. METHODS A total of 502 San Juan Metropolitan Statistical Area participants were recruited through the Respondent Driven Sampling method. Sociodemographic, health-related, and behavioral characteristics were assessed. Testing for HCV antibodies was completed after the face-to-face survey. Descriptive and logistic regression analyses were performed. RESULTS Overall seroprevalence of HCV was 76.5% (95% CI: 70.8-81.4%). A significantly (p < 0.05) higher HCV seroprevalence was observed among PWID with the following characteristics: heterosexuals (78.5%), high school graduates (81.3%), tested for sexually transmitted infections (STI) in the past 12 months (86.1%), frequent speedball injection (79.4%), and knowing the HCV serostatus of the last sharing partner (95.4%). Adjusted logistic regression models showed that having completed high school and reported STI testing in the past 12 months were significantly associated with HCV infection (ORa = 2.23; 95% CI: 1.06-4.69; ORa = 2.14; 95% CI: 1.06-4.30, respectively). CONCLUSIONS We report a high seroprevalence of HCV infection in PWID. Social health disparities and potential missed opportunities validate the continuing call for local action for public health and prevention strategies.

Abstract
National prevalence of physical and sexual violence and its relationship to sexual behaviors are unknown among men who have sex with men (MSM). We estimated 12-month prevalence of physical and sexual violence and assessed relationships between violence and sexual behaviors among MSM. Data were obtained from National HIV Behavioral Surveillance 2017 that used time-space sampling methods to recruit and interview MSM in 22 U.S. cities. Weighted percentages with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were reported. Adjusted prevalence ratios (aPR) and 95% CIs were calculated using logistic regression with predicted marginal means. Overall, 10.2% (95% CI: 9.3%-11.2%) of MSM experienced physical violence only, 3.2% (95% CI: 2.7%-3.7%) experienced sexual violence only, and 2.3% (95% CI: 1.9%-2.7%) experienced both types of violence, in the past 12 months. Compared to MSM who did not experience violence, those who did reported higher percentages of unemployment, poverty, homelessness, same-sex discrimination, non-injection drug use, and binge drinking. Violence was not independently associated with condomless anal sex among MSM. MSM who experienced both types of violence were more likely than those who did not experience violence to have had four or more male sex partners (aPR=1.18, 95% CI: 1.02-1.37). MSM who experienced both types of violence (aPR=2.49, 95% CI: 1.52-4.09), sexual violence (aPR=2.27, 95% CI: 1.47-3.52), or physical violence (aPR=1.76, 95% CI: 1.27-2.44) were more likely than those who did not experience violence to have had exchange sex. Recent physical violence and sexual violence are common among MSM. Findings highlight the importance of violence screening and suggest the need for tailored interventions that improve the safety and economic security of MSM who experience violence, including those who exchange sex.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The impact of a syringe services program (SSP) policy on risk behaviors and its durability are not as well studied as the impact of the SSPs themselves. We examined whether trends in syringe sharing among persons who inject drugs (PWID) were associated with changes to syringe access policies in 3 US cities: Denver, New Orleans, and Philadelphia. METHODS PWID were surveyed through National HIV Behavioral Surveillance System surveys in each city in 2005, 2009, 2012, and 2015. We assessed changes in syringe sharing from 2005 to 2015 by city. We used multivariable stepwise logistic regression analysis to measure the associations among syringe sharing and injection works sharing, time, and SSP access. RESULTS From 2005 to 2015, syringe sharing decreased significantly from 49.1% to 33.1% in Denver (P < .001), increased significantly from 32.0% to 50.5% in New Orleans (P < .001), and remained unchanged in Philadelphia (30.4% to 31.5%; P = .87). Compared with persons who obtained syringes from any nonsterile source, the adjusted odds of syringe sharing among PWID were significantly lower in each city if syringes were obtained from sterile sources only: Denver adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 0.23 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.18-0.30; New Orleans aOR = 0.26 (95% CI, 0.19-0.35), and Philadelphia aOR = 0.43 (95% CI, 0.33-0.57). CONCLUSIONS The lowest proportion of PWID reporting syringe sharing was in Philadelphia, which has a long-standing legal SSP. Implementation of a legal SSP in Denver in 2012 corresponded to a decrease in sharing, whereas the lack of a legal SSP in New Orleans corresponded to an increase in sharing. Universal long-term access to legal SSPs could further the progress made in HIV prevention among PWID.

Abstract
Men who have sex with men (MSM) in the USA continue to have high rates of HIV infection. Increasingly, in addition to behavioral factors, biomedical interventions have been found to play important roles in HIV prevention. In this analysis, we used four waves of cross-sectional data (2004, 2008, 2011, and 2014) from the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance System (NHBS) to examine trends in key behaviors and biomedical interventions among MSM in Chicago (N = 3298). Logistic regression was used to determine changes in behaviors and use of biomedical interventions. Condomless sex increased significantly in waves 3 and 4, compared to wave 1: wave 3 (AOR = 2.07; 95% CI 1.53, 2.78) and wave 4 (AOR = 2.19; 95% CI 1.62, 2.96). Compared to those aged 18-24, older participants were significantly less likely to be routinely tested for HIV: 30-39 (AOR = 0.63; 95% CI 0.48, 0.83), 40-49 (AOR = 0.40; 95% CI 0.29, 0.55), and >50 (AOR = 0.28; 95% CI 0.18, 0.43). Awareness of both post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP)(AOR = 3.13; 95% CI 1.22, 8.03) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)(AOR = 10.02; 95% CI 2.95, 34.01) increased significantly in wave 4, compared to wave 3. These results suggest a potential increase in HIV rates among men with main and casual partners and should be monitored closely as PrEP becomes more widespread among MSM of all races and ethnicities in Chicago. This study also suggests that further analyses of the barriers to PEP and PreP uptake among high-risk populations are necessary.

Abstract
We tested blood samples from men who have sex with men (MSM) to detect early HIV infection. Early HIV included both acute (infected past 30 days) and recent (estimated recency past 240 days). Acute infections were defined as screen immunoassay (IA) negative/NAAT-positive or IA-positive/Multispot-negative/NAAT-positive. Recent infections were defined as avidity index cutoff <30 % on an avidity-based IA and, (1) not reporting antiretroviral therapy use or, (2) HIV RNA >150 copies/mL. Of 937 samples, 26 % (244) were HIV-infected and of these 5 % (12) were early. Of early infections, 2 were acute and 10 recent; most (8/12) were among black MSM. Early infection was associated with last partner of black race [adjusted relative risk (ARR) = 4.6, confidence intervals (CI) 1.2-17.3], receptive anal sex at last sex (ARR = 4.3, CI 1.2-15.0), and daily Internet use to meet partners/friends (ARR = 3.3, CI 1.1-9.7). Expanding prevention and treatment for black MSM will be necessary for reducing incidence in the United States.
