Abstract
The first search for scalar leptoquarks produced in τ-lepton-quark collisions is presented. It is based on a set of proton-proton collision data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb^{-1}. The reconstructed final state consists of a jet, significant missing transverse momentum, and a τ lepton reconstructed through its hadronic or leptonic decays. Limits are set on the product of the leptoquark production cross section and branching fraction and interpreted as exclusions in the plane of the leptoquark mass and the leptoquark-τ-quark coupling strength.

Abstract
Ancient Egyptian mummification was practiced for nearly 4000 years as a key feature of some of the most complex mortuary practices documented in the archaeological record. Embalming, the preservation of the body and organs of the deceased for the afterlife, was a central component of the Egyptian mummification process. Here, we combine GC-MS, HT-GC-MS, and LC-MS/MS analyses to examine mummification balms excavated more than a century ago by Howard Carter from Tomb KV42 in the Valley of the Kings. Balm residues were scraped from now empty canopic jars that once contained the mummified organs of the noble lady Senetnay, dating to the 18th dynasty, ca. 1450 BCE. Our analysis revealed balms consisting of beeswax, plant oil, fats, bitumen, Pinaceae resins, a balsamic substance, and dammar or Pistacia tree resin. These are the richest, most complex balms yet identified for this early time period and they shed light on balm ingredients for which there is limited information in Egyptian textual sources. They highlight both the exceptional status of Senetnay and the myriad trade connections of the Egyptians in the 2nd millennium BCE. They further illustrate the excellent preservation possible even for organic remains long removed from their original archaeological context.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Injury of the bile duct during cholecystectomy (CHE) is a severe complication. The critical view of safety (CVS) can help to reduce the frequency of this complication during laparoscopic CHE. So far, no scoring of CVS images with a grading system is available. METHOD The CVS images of 534 patients with laparoscopic CHE could be structurally analyzed and assessed with marks from 1 (very good) to 5 (insufficient). The CVS mark was correlated with the perioperative course. Additionally, the perioperative course of patients after laparoscopic CHE with and without a CVS image was investigated. RESULTS In 534 patients 1 or more CVS images could be analyzed. The average CVS mark was 1.9, whereby 280 patients (52.4%) had a 1, 126 patients (23.6%) a 2, 114 (21.3%) a 3 and 14 patients (2.6%) a 4 or 5. Younger patients with elective laparoscopic CHE had CVS images significantly more frequently (p ≤ 0.04). The statistical examination with Pearson's χ2-test and the F‑test (ANOVA) showed a significant correlation between improving CVS marks and reduction of surgery time (p < 0.01) and the hospitalization time (p < 0.01). For senior physicians the quota of CVS images ranged from 71% to 92% and the average marks from 1.5 to 2.2. The marks for the CVS images were significantly better for female than male patients (1.8 vs. 2.1, p < 0.01). DISCUSSION There was a relatively broad distribution of marks for CVS images. Injuries of the bile duct can be avoided with a high degree of certainty with marks 1‑2 for the CVS image. The CVS is not always adequately visualized in laparoscopic CHE.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic made substantial changes in medical care necessary. The aims of this study were to find out what influence the pandemic had on the perioperative course in patients with cholecystectomy (CHE) and to highlight possible residual consequences. METHOD From 1 July 2018 to 31 December 2021 a total of 735 patients with CHE were analyzed. Up to 21 March 2020 patients were assigned to the regular patient group (Reg, n = 430), patients after this date (first lockdown 22 March 2020) to the Cov19 patient group (Cov19, n = 305) and the 2 groups were compared. RESULTS The average age of all patients was 59 years and 63% were women. The average length of hospitalization (KrVD, time period between surgery and discharge) was 4.4 days. The patient groups Reg and Cov19 did not differ with respect to age, gender or KrVD. The total number of CHEs carried out was reduced by 21.4% in the Cov19 group. This affected elective and emergency CHE to the same extent. The length of surgery significantly increased in the Cov19 group from 64 min (SD 34 min) to 71 min (SD 38 min). The number of short and long hospital stays (KrVD 2 or >4 days) significantly increased in the Cov19 group from 4 % to 20 % (short stay, p < 0.01) and from 23 % to 27 % (long stay, p < 0.01). This was particularly observed for patients >70 years old with an increase in long stays from 43 % to 56 % in the Cov19 group. CONCLUSION The COVID-19 pandemic led to a clear reduction in CHE both for elective and emergency interventions. Furthermore, a significant lengthening of the surgery and hospitalization times could be observed for older patients. The residual consequences of the pandemic could be shortened hospitalization times after uncomplicated CHE and more interventional treatment procedures in complex cases.

Abstract
Hintergrund Die Bedeutung postoperativer Laborkontrollen nach elektiver laparoskopischer Cholezystektomie (lap. CHE) ist umstritten. Das Ziel dieser prospektiven Studie war es, herauszufinden, ob Patienten* bei unauffälligem perioperativem Verlauf nach lap. CHE ohne Laborwertkontrollen sicher entlassen werden können. Methodik Vom 09/20 bis 03/22 wurden alle Patienten* mit einer lap. CHE gescreent und nach Erhalt des Einverständnisses in die Studie eingeschlossen. Der Verlauf wurde mit einem Scoring- (Punktewert 3–15 Punkte) und Befragungsbogen strukturiert verfolgt. Ein Scoringwert von ≤ 9 Punkten beschrieb einen unauffälligen perioperativen Verlauf. Die Ethikkommission Heidelberg hat dieser Studie zugestimmt (S-026/2020). Ergebnisse Es wurden 275 Patienten* mit Gallenblasenoperation erfasst. Davon unterzogen sich 80 % einer elektiven lap. CHE. 56 Patienten* (25 %) wurden in die Studie eingeschlossen, 51 Patienten* wurden bei einem Scoringwert ≤ 9 Punkten ohne Blutentnahme entlassen. Das Durchschnittsalter der 51 Patienten* war 50,8 Jahre, der durchschnittliche Krankenhausaufenthalt betrug 2,6 Tage. 40 von 51 Patienten* (78,4 %) konnten postoperativ befragt werden. Bei keinem der Patienten* kam es nach Entlassung zu relevanten Komplikationen. 27 der 40 Patienten* (67,5 %) sind postoperativ noch einmal zum Hausarzt gegangen. Aufgrund anderer Operationen und einer endoskopischen Intervention sind 4 Patienten* erneut stationär behandelt worden. Alle Patienten* waren mit dem chirurgischen Verlauf zufrieden. Diskussion Patienten* mit unauffälligem perioperativem Verlauf nach elektiver lap. CHE (Scoringwert ≤ 9 Punkten) können ohne postoperative Laborwertkontrolle entlassen werden.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is nearly exclusively carried out as an inpatient operation in Germany. The aim of the study was to evaluate for which patients postoperative laboratory control values are necessary. METHODS This retrospective analysis included 100 patients who underwent elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy. A scoring and data collection sheet was developed, which enables a risk stratification. Using the scoring system patients can achieve between 3 and 15 points. RESULTS In total 100 patients were included in the study. Of the patients 64 (group 1) had between 3 and 8 points, 29 patients (group 2) between 9 and 11 points and 7 patients (group 3) between 12 and 15 points. In comparison to group 1 the C‑reactive protein values as well as the duration of hospital stay were significantly increased in group 2 and group 3 (p > 0.05). In group1 a total of 60 patients (93.7%) were discharged regularly on postoperative days 1-3. In group 2 there were 17 patients (58.6%) who could be discharged with unremarkable blood values and in group 3 there were 3 patients (42.8%). In the total collective hospital discharge without a laboratory control of blood values would have been justified in 80% of the patients. CONCLUSION A postoperative control of laboratory blood values is not routinely necessary for patients after elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy with a score <9 points.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical and patient-reported outcomes of a customised, individually made (CIM) bi-compartmental knee arthroplasty (BKA). METHODS A prospectively recruited cohort of 79 patients was implanted with a CIM-BKA (patello-femoral plus either medial or lateral tibio-femoral, iDuo G2 system, Conformis, Billerica MA) at eight centres in the US and Germany. Patients were assessed for the 2011 KSS, KOOS, and ROM pre-operatively and at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 12 weeks, 1 year, and 2 years post-operatively. RESULTS The objective KSS score significantly improved from 69 at the pre-operative visit, to 94 at the 2-year post-operative time-point. Similar improvements were observed for the KSS function and satisfaction domains. Significant improvements from pre-operative levels were observed across all five domains of the KOOS. Two patients have undergone surgery to revise their CIM-BKA implant to total knees, resulting in a survivorship rate of 97.5% at an average follow-up of 2.6 years. CONCLUSIONS CIM-BKA compares favourably to published scores as well as revision rates for previously available monolithic OTS-BKA implants. CIM-BKA implants provide surgeons with a viable and patient-specific monolithic implant solution as an option for patients presenting with bi-compartmental disease, who might, otherwise, be treated by performing uni-condylar + patello-femoral joint or bicruciate sparing TKA surgeries. Longer follow-up and higher numbers have to be awaited for further validation of these encouraging early results. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE 3b (individual case-controlled study).

Abstract
UNLABELLED This first-in-human study of AGN1 LOEP demonstrated that this minimally-invasive treatment durably increased aBMD in femurs of osteoporotic postmenopausal women. AGN1 resorption was coupled with new bone formation by 12 weeks and that new bone was maintained for at least 5-7 years resulting in substantially increased FEA-estimated femoral strength. INTRODUCTION This first-in-human study evaluated feasibility, safety, and in vivo response to treating proximal femurs of postmenopausal osteoporotic women with a minimally-invasive local osteo-enhancement procedure (LOEP) to inject a resorbable triphasic osteoconductive implant material (AGN1). METHODS This prospective cohort study enrolled 12 postmenopausal osteoporotic (femoral neck T-score ≤ - 2.5) women aged 56 to 89 years. AGN1 LOEP was performed on left femurs; right femurs were untreated controls. Subjects were followed-up for 5-7 years. Outcomes included adverse events, proximal femur areal bone mineral density (aBMD), AGN1 resorption, and replacement with bone by X-ray and CT, and finite element analysis (FEA) estimated hip strength. RESULTS Baseline treated and control femoral neck aBMD was equivalent. Treated femoral neck aBMD increased by 68 ± 22%, 59 ± 24%, and 58 ± 27% over control at 12 and 24 weeks and 5-7 years, respectively (p < 0.001, all time points). Using conservative assumptions, FEA-estimated femoral strength increased by 41%, 37%, and 22% at 12 and 24 weeks and 5-7 years, respectively (p < 0.01, all time points). Qualitative analysis of X-ray and CT scans demonstrated that AGN1 resorption and replacement with bone was nearly complete by 24 weeks. By 5-7 years, AGN1 appeared to be fully resorbed and replaced with bone integrated with surrounding trabecular and cortical bone. No procedure- or device-related serious adverse events (SAEs) occurred. CONCLUSIONS Treating femurs of postmenopausal osteoporotic women with AGN1 LOEP results in a rapid, durable increase in aBMD and femoral strength. These results support the use and further clinical study of this approach in osteoporotic patients at high risk of hip fracture.

Abstract
The growing importance of social media for getting science news has raised questions about whether these online platforms foster or hinder public trust in science. Employing multilevel modeling, this study leverages a 20-country survey to examine the relationship between social media news use and trust in science. Results show a positive relationship between these variables across countries. Moreover, the between-country variation in this relationship is related to two cultural characteristics of a country, individualism/collectivism and power distance.

Abstract
Abstract
The Memory Complaints Inventory (MCI) is a self-report questionnaire developed as a symptom validity test to assess exaggerated memory complaints and to compliment performance validity tests in neuropsychological settings.
Objective
The current study utilized archival MCI scores in clinical (Alzheimer’s Disease, Vascular Dementia, Mild Cognitive Impairment, and Pseudodementia) and insufficient effort populations to determine clinical cutoff scores for utilization of the MCI in neuropsychological settings.
Method
Data were gathered from the archives of an outpatient neuropsychology clinic based on diagnosis, resulting in a total of 244 participants for inclusion. Participants were subsequently separated into clinical (n = 195) or insufficient effort (n = 49) groups based on diagnosis. Data were analyzed using Receiving Operator Characteristic (ROC) curve analyses, consisting of area under the curve (AUC), specificity, sensitivity, diagnostic odds ratios (DOR), and Youden’s indices.
Results
Data suggested a cutoff of 10.35 (42% endorsement) for the Overall score of the MCI to differentiate clinical populations from insufficient effort with acceptable sensitivity (55%) and specificity (90%). Further, cutoff values for each scale of the MCI were calculated, including the Plausible and Implausible imbedded validity scales.
Conclusions
The findings provided further evidence for the use of the MCI as a symptom validity measure. The identified cutoff scores can differentiate between insufficient effort and clinical populations with acceptable specificity and sensitivity to aid clinician accuracy in detecting insufficient effort and non-credible symptom endorsement.

Abstract
The candidate pan-Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine RG1-VLP are HPV16 major capsid protein L1 virus-like-particles (VLP) comprising a type-common epitope of HPV16 minor capsid protein L2 (RG1; aa17-36). Vaccinations have previously demonstrated efficacy against genital high-risk (hr), low-risk (lr) and cutaneous HPV. To compare RG1-VLP to licensed vaccines, rabbits (n = 3) were immunized thrice with 1 µg, 5 µg, 25 µg, or 125 µg of RG1-VLP or a 1/4 dose of Cervarix®. 5 µg of RG1-VLP or 16L1-VLP (Cervarix) induced comparable HPV16 capsid-reactive and neutralizing antibodies titers (62,500/12,500-62,500 or 1000/10,000). 25 µg RG1-VLP induced robust cross-neutralization titers (50-1000) against hrHPV18/31/33/45/52/58/26/70. To mimic reduced immunization schedules in adolescents, mice (n = 10) were immunized twice with RG1-VLP (5 µg) plus 18L1-VLP (5 µg). HPV16 neutralization (titers of 10,000) similar to Cervarix and Gardasil and cross-protection against hrHPV58 vaginal challenge was observed. RG1-VLP vaccination induces hrHPV16 neutralization comparable to similar doses of licensed vaccines, plus cross-neutralization to heterologous hrHPV even when combined with HPV18L1-VLP.

This study examines the relationship between peoples' personality traits and social media uses with data from 20 societies (N = 21,314). A measure of the "Big Five" personality traits is tested on key social media dimensions: frequency of use, social interaction, and news consumption. Across diverse societies, findings suggest that while extraversion, agreeableness, and conscientiousness are all positive predictors of different types of social media use, emotional stability and openness are negatively related to them.

Abstract
Mineral oils and waxes used in cosmetic products, also referred to as "personal care products" outside the European Union, are mixtures of predominantly saturated hydrocarbons consisting of straight-chain, branched and ring structures with carbon chain lengths greater than C16. They are used in skin and lip care cosmetic products due to their excellent skin tolerance as well as their high protecting and cleansing performance and broad viscosity options. Recently, concerns have been raised regarding potential adverse health effects of mineral oils and waxes from dermal application of cosmetics. In order to be able to assess the risk for the consumer the dermal penetration potential of these ingredients has to be evaluated. The scope and objective of this review are to identify and summarize publicly available literature on the dermal penetration of mineral oils and waxes as used in cosmetic products. For this purpose, a comprehensive literature search was conducted. A total of 13 in vivo (human, animal) and in vitro studies investigating the dermal penetration of mineral oils and waxes has been identified and analysed. The majority of the substances were dermally adsorbed to the stratum corneum and only a minor fraction reached deeper skin layers. Overall, there is no evidence from the various studies that mineral oils and waxes are percutaneously absorbed and become systemically available. Thus, given the absence of dermal uptake, mineral oils and waxes as used in cosmetic products do not present a risk to the health of the consumer.

Abstract
Research into Heliconius butterflies has made a significant contribution to evolutionary biology. Here, we review our understanding of the diversification of these butterflies, covering recent advances and a vast foundation of earlier work. Whereas no single group of organisms can be sufficient for understanding life's diversity, after years of intensive study, research into Heliconius has addressed a wide variety of evolutionary questions. We first discuss evidence for widespread gene flow between Heliconius species and what this reveals about the nature of species. We then address the evolution and diversity of warning patterns, both as the target of selection and with respect to their underlying genetic basis. The identification of major genes involved in mimetic shifts, and homology at these loci between distantly related taxa, has revealed a surprising predictability in the genetic basis of evolution. In the final sections, we consider the evolution of warning patterns, and Heliconius diversity more generally, within a broader context of ecological and sexual selection. We consider how different traits and modes of selection can interact and influence the evolution of reproductive isolation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Correction of posttraumatic lower leg deformities using percutaneous osteotomy, external fixation with a ring fixator, and computer-assisted gradual correction with the Taylor Spatial Frame (TSF). INDICATIONS Posttraumatic lower leg deformities not suitable for acute correction and internal fixation or deformities that are suitable but have a significantly increased risk for complications: deformities with poor soft tissue coverage, rigid deformities that require gradual correction, complex mulitplanar deformities, deformities with shortening, and periarticular juvenile deformities. CONTRAINDICATIONS Posttraumatic lower leg deformities which are suitable for acute correction and internal fixation are also suitable for deformity correction using the TSF. In these cases, however, we recommend acute correction and internal fixation in order to improve the patient comfort. Lack of patient compliance for self-contained correction and pin care. SURGICAL TECHNIQUE Percutaneous fixation of the TSF rings to the main fragments using transosseous K-wires and half pins (hybrid fixation). Percutaneous osteotomy of the tibia either by drilling across both cortices and completion of the osteotomy using an osteotome (DeBastiani method) or by using the Gigli saw with preservation of the periostal envelope. Connection of both rings with six oblique telescopic struts via universal joints (hexapod platform). Computer-assisted planning of the correction. POSTOPERATIVE MANAGEMENT Gradual postoperative correction of the deformity by changing the strut lengths according to the correction plan. Strut changes, if required. Osseous consolidation of the osteotomy site with the TSF or revision to internal fixation. RESULTS The correction of posttraumatic lower leg deformities using the TSF was performed in 6 cases. The mean deformity was 15° (12-22°) in the frontal plane and 6° (4-8°) in the sagittal plane. The correction time was 19 days (14-22 days). The deviation between planned and achieved correction was 0-3° in the frontal plane and 0-2° in the sagittal plane. The osseous consolidation of the osteotomy site was carried out in the TSF in 5 cases with a mean external fixation time of 112 days (94-134 days). In one case, the TSF was removed after the correction and the osteotomy site was fixed using an intramedullary nail. Pin site infections were observed in 3 cases. There were no further complications. The treatment goal was achieved in all cases. The examination at final follow-up was performed after 1 year. All patients were able to walk without walking aids and with no pain at that time. They were able to perform all of their activities of the daily life and their leisure activities without limitations.

Abstract
Understanding the genetic architecture of adaptive traits has been at the centre of modern evolutionary biology since Fisher; however, evaluating how the genetic architecture of ecologically important traits influences their diversification has been hampered by the scarcity of empirical data. Now, high-throughput genomics facilitates the detailed exploration of variation in the genome-to-phenotype map among closely related taxa. Here, we investigate the evolution of wing pattern diversity in Heliconius, a clade of neotropical butterflies that have undergone an adaptive radiation for wing-pattern mimicry and are influenced by distinct selection regimes. Using crosses between natural wing-pattern variants, we used genome-wide restriction site-associated DNA (RAD) genotyping, traditional linkage mapping and multivariate image analysis to study the evolution of the architecture of adaptive variation in two closely related species: Heliconius hecale and H. ismenius. We implemented a new morphometric procedure for the analysis of whole-wing pattern variation, which allows visualising spatial heatmaps of genotype-to-phenotype association for each quantitative trait locus separately. We used the H. melpomene reference genome to fine-map variation for each major wing-patterning region uncovered, evaluated the role of candidate genes and compared genetic architectures across the genus. Our results show that, although the loci responding to mimicry selection are highly conserved between species, their effect size and phenotypic action vary throughout the clade. Multilocus architecture is ancestral and maintained across species under directional selection, whereas the single-locus (supergene) inheritance controlling polymorphism in H. numata appears to have evolved only once. Nevertheless, the conservatism in the wing-patterning toolkit found throughout the genus does not appear to constrain phenotypic evolution towards local adaptive optima.

Anhydrous Ga[GaBr4] is readily dissolved in benzene. The resulting solutions show discrete 71Ga NMR signals for Ga(I) und Ga(III) centers. Narrow line-widths of the former indicate a small electric field gradient of the Ga(I) nucleus due to almost spherical shielding by the 4 s2 lone pair of electrons.
Crystals obtained from the benzene solution on cooling have the stoichiometry [(C6H6)2Ga · GaBr4]2 ·3 C6H6, and are isomorphous with the analogous chloride compound: a = 9.390(2). b = 10.847(1), c = 13.118(2) Å; α = 85.54(1). β = 102.91(1). γ = 105.62(1)°; triclinic, space group Ρ1̄, Z = 1.
The centrosymmetric dimers are composed of bis(benzene)gallium(I) and tetrabromogallate(III) units bridged by six bromine atoms. Only two bromine atoms are not engaged in coordinative bonding. The two benzene rings are both η6-bonded to the gallium(I) center, but not equidistant. They are enclined by 57.5°. The remaining benzene molecules are crystal benzene with no specific cation or anion contacts.

By means of a time-of-flight method the electron drift velocity ν_ in ethane was measured at densities between N = 1,5 · 1019 and 1,1 · 1021 cm-3 (450 Torr ≦p20 ≦ 33390 Torr). Below E/N = 10-18 and above E/N = 10-16 Vcm2 (E/p20 < 0,03 and > 3,3) ν_ is independent of density N, in the intermediate region ν_ decreases at a given E/N with increasing density. This means a violation of the similarity rule. As function of E/N at a given X the relative drift velocity q = ν_ (p)/v (450 Torr) shows a resonance curve with a minimum at E/N = 6,5 · 10-18 {E/p20 - 0,2). This effect can be described, assuming that the electron is attached to the C2H6- molecule for a short time τ. The cross section for the electron attachment, Qa, has a resonance maximum at electron energies of ~ 80 meV. Qa is shown to be ≦ 10-15 cm2 and the life time to be ≦ 10-14 sec. - In propane a similar density-effect is found.

The 1:1 complexes of Ag[GaCl4 ] with anti-[2.2](1 ,4)naphthalinophane and of Ag[ClO4 ] with [2](1.4)naphthalino[2]paracyclophane and rac-[2](1,5)naphthalino[2]paracyclophane have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses and IR spectra. The crystal structure of the last compound, ([2](1,5)naphthalino[2]paracyclophane)silver(I) Perchlorate, has been determined by X-ray methods. It crystallizes in the centrosymmetrical space group P21/n with cell dimensions a = 12.495(2), b = 8.546(1), c =16.196(2) Å, β = 101.27(1)°. Both enantiomers of the ligands are present in the unit cell and related by centrosymmetry. Each silver atom is connected with the naphthalin systems of two ligands and with two Perchlorate anions, one of which is chelating, while the other is only monodentate. The cation/anion chains are linked through the organic ligands in such a way that a sheet structure is formed. The benzene rings of the cyclophanes are not involved in the metal coordination, the naphthaline rings are μ3 -bonded to the silver atoms, which are not ring-centered.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogeneous disease, defined by a loss of B cell self-tolerance resulting in the production of autoantibodies. One of the many mechanisms described resulting in a break in B cell self-tolerance is overexpression of the endosomal toll-like receptor, TLR7. We hypothesized that autophagy plays a crucial role in TLR7 activation in B cells by delivering ligand to endosomes. To test this model, we produced TLR7 transgenic (tg) mice with a B cell-specific (CD19-cre) ablation of autophagy (ATG5 ko), and compared SLE development to that of TLR7 tg mice with intact autophagy machinery. We observed that loss of ATG5 in B cells significantly increased the survival of TLR7 tg mice, reduced serum IgG and anti-nuclear autoantibodies, thereby preventing glomerulonephritis. These data suggest that B cell autophagy is required for TLR7-mediated SLE disease progression. However, while symptoms of SLE were ameliorated, extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH) was dramatically increased with a splenic red pulp expansion in these mice. Thus, autophagy in B cells plays an important role in controlling lineage determination in hematopoiesis, likely by regulating chemokine and cytokine production, the mechanism by which is currently under investigation. A better understanding of the control steps involved in TLR7 activation and cytokine production could lead to improved therapeutics for treatment of SLE.

There is little knowledge about the effects of topiramate in intellectually impaired epileptic patients. This open prospective study compares seizure frequencies during a 3-month period of topiramate add-on therapy (after 3 months of titration) compared with a 3-month baseline period. An intention-to-treat analysis was made on the first 24 consecutive topiramate-treated adult patients (residents of the Bethel epilepsy centre, therapy-resistant epilepsy, intellectual impairment of different degrees, one half with neurological deficits). The responder rate (at least a 50% reduction in seizure frequency) was 37.5%. One patient became completely seizure-free during post-evaluation (up to 24 months). Efficacy was not different between different epileptic syndromes or seizure types (case number too small). Responders had topiramate dosages above 200 mg/day and serum concentrations above 2.2 micrograms/ml. Six patients (25%) experienced serious neuropsychiatric complications such as confusion and severe deceleration of thinking and acting, up to complete helplessness (at topiramate dosages from 50 mg/day to 900 mg/day and serum concentrations from 2.2 micrograms/ml to 8.0 micrograms/ml). Preexisting brain damage may enhance the risk of unwanted central nervous effects.

Abstract
Biogenic sulfuric acid corrosion (BSA) is a costly problem affecting both sewerage infrastructure and sludge handling facilities such as digesters. The aim of this study was to verify BSA in full-scale digesters by identifying the microorganisms involved in the concrete corrosion process, that is, sulfate-reducing (SRB) and sulfur-oxidizing bacteria (SOB). To investigate the SRB and SOB communities, digester sludge and biofilm samples were collected. SRB diversity within digester sludge was studied by applying polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) targeting the dsrB-gene (dissimilatory sulfite reductase beta subunit). To reveal SOB diversity, cultivation dependent and independent techniques were applied. The SRB diversity studies revealed different uncultured SRB, confirming SRB activity and H2S production. Comparable DGGE profiles were obtained from the different sludges, demonstrating the presence of similar SRB species. By cultivation, three pure SOB strains from the digester headspace were obtained including Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans, Thiomonas intermedia and Thiomonas perometabolis. These organisms were also detected with PCR-DGGE in addition to two new SOB: Thiobacillus thioparus and Paracoccus solventivorans. The SRB and SOB responsible for BSA were identified within five different digesters, demonstrating that BSA is a problem occurring not only in sewer systems but also in sludge digesters. In addition, the presence of different SOB species was successfully associated with the progression of microbial corrosion.

The endosomal Toll-like receptor, TLR7, acts as critical line of defense against viral pathogens; however, overexpression of TLR7 has been shown to lead to spontaneous lupus-like disease (SLE). Thus, tight regulation of this pattern recognition receptor is crucial in preventing a hyperactive cellular state. We hypothesized that autophagy plays a role in TLR7 activation by delivering ligand to endosomes and by controlling subsequent inflammatory responses. To test this model, we crossed TLR7 transgenic (tg) mice that succumb to SLE with mice where ATG5, a critical autophagy gene, was deleted in dendritic cells (DCs) or B cells or both. These mice were compared to TLR7 tg mice with intact autophagy for morbidity and the inflammatory response. We observed that loss of ATG5 in either DCs or B cells significantly increased the survival of TLR7 tg mice, while ATG5 deletion in both cell types only modestly improved survival. On the other hand, loss of autophagy led to an elevated inflammatory response compared to TLR7 tg mice with intact autophagy, as evidenced by vastly increased lymphoid organ mass and elevated numbers of granulocytes and macrophages. The inflammatory mediators involved in this process are currently under investigation. These data suggest that autophagy plays an important and dichotomous role in TLR7-mediated autoimmunity, both enabling and ameliorating symptoms of SLE. It is likely that autophagy is affecting multiple TLR7-dependent signaling processes.

We present evidence for Rydberg-Rydberg interaction in a gas of rubidium atoms above room temperature. Rabi oscillations on the nanosecond time scale to different Rydberg states are investigated in a vapor cell experiment. Analyzing the atomic time evolution and comparing to a dephasing model, we find a scaling with the Rydberg quantum number n that is consistent with van der Waals interaction. Our results show that the interaction strength can be larger than the kinetic energy scale (Doppler width), which is the requirement for realization of thermal quantum devices in the GHz regime.

Self-organized electronically ordered phases are a recurring feature in correlated materials, resulting in, for example, fluctuating charge stripes whose role in high-TC superconductivity is under debate. However, the relevant cause-effect relations between real-space charge correlations and low-energy excitations remain hidden in time-averaged studies. Here we reveal ultrafast charge localization and lattice vibrational coupling as dynamic precursors of stripe formation in the model compound La(1.75)Sr(0.25)NiO4, using ultrafast and equilibrium mid-infrared spectroscopy. The opening of a pseudogap at a crossover temperature T* far above long-range stripe formation establishes the onset of electronic localization, which is accompanied by an enhanced Fano asymmetry of Ni-O stretch vibrations. Ultrafast excitation triggers a sub-picosecond dynamics exposing the synchronous modulation of electron-phonon coupling and charge localization. These results illuminate the role of localization in forming the pseudogap in nickelates, opening a path to understanding this mysterious phase in a broad class of complex oxides.

Abstract
In their natural state, river floodplains are heterogeneous and dynamic ecosystems that may retain and remove large quantities of nitrogen from surface waters. We compared the soil nitrogen dynamics in different types of habitat patches in a restored and a channelized section of a Thur River floodplain (northeast Switzerland). Our objective was to relate the spatiotemporal variability of selected nitrogen pools (ammonium, nitrate, microbial nitrogen), nitrogen transformations (mineralization, nitrification, denitrification), and gaseous nitrogen emission (NO) to soil properties and hydrological processes. Our study showed that soil water content and carbon availability, which depend on sedimentation and inundation dynamics, were the key factors controlling nitrogen pools and processes. High nitrogen turnover rates were measured on gravel bars, characterized by both frequent inundation and high sediment deposition rates, as well as in low-lying alluvial forest patches with a fine-textured, nutrient-rich soil where anaerobic microsites probably facilitated coupled nitrification-denitrification. In contrast, soils of the embankment in the channelized section had comparatively small inorganic nitrogen pools and low transformation rates, particularly those related to nitrate production. Environmental heterogeneity, characteristic of the restored section, favors nitrogen removal by creating sites of high sedimentation and denitrification. Of concern, however, are the locally high NO efflux and the possibility that nitrate could leach from nitrification hotspots.

Abstract
Burnout is widely known as a work-related syndrome that is associated by serious individual and social consequences. The aim of the HTA report "Differential diagnostic of the burnout syndrome" published by DIMDI in 2010 was to determine how burnout can be diagnosed and distinguished from other disorders. Based on a systematic literature review of 36 databases, 852 studies published between 2004 and 2009 were identified. After considering inclusion and exclusion criteria, 25 medical and one ethical study remained. The study evidence is predominantly low. Self-assessment tools are mainly used. The analysis showed that no standardized, common valid procedure exists to obtain a burnout diagnosis. Overall the problem is to measure a phenomenon that is not exactly defined. It is primarily important to distinguish burnout from depression, alexithymia, feeling unwell, and the concept of prolonged exhaustion. Beside the need for a valid definition, further research is needed, particularly high-quality, long-term studies, to broaden the understanding of the syndrome. Furthermore, a standardized, internationally accepted and valid procedure for diagnosing burnout is necessary.

Abstract
RATIONALE Because the characteristics of all body fluids depends on patient's health status, is it possible that disadvantaged and socially vulnerable mothers may have lower amounts of iron in their breast milk, and that their babies receive lower content of the mineral for their normal growth and development. Assuring a preventive treatment of the mother might solve this problem. OBJECTIVE To demonstrate breast milk iron content from disadvantaged mothers and impact of personalized iron supplementation program. MATERIALS AND METHODS cross-sectional study. Breast milk samples were obtained for ferritin analysis. Health's services usually provides free folic acid and iron treatment however, treatment compliance is low. Patients were random in two groups: "A: Controls" that had free iron tablets available from Health Centre; and "B: Intervention" group where patients accepted to be periodically contacted at home by health's team for personalized iron dispensation. RESULTS 360 patients were included. Profilaxis and treatment compliance were 100% and 97,6% for B group while for "Control" one was 63% and 34%(p0.0001). Higher breast milk iron levels were detected in Intervention's mothers compared with control's patients (p0.007). CONCLUSION Personalized iron prophylaxis and treatment increased breast milk iron levels. Public health policy must ensure iron dispensation for each underserved mother in order to reduce children problems associate to iron deficiency during the first year of their life.

Abstract
We report on the observation of Rabi oscillations to a Rydberg state on a time scale below 1 ns in thermal rubidium vapor. We use a bandwidth-limited pulsed excitation and observe up to 6 full Rabi cycles within a pulse duration of ∼4 ns. We find good agreement between the experiment and numerical simulations based on a surprisingly simple model. This result shows that fully coherent dynamics with Rydberg states can be achieved even in thermal atomic vapor, thus suggesting small vapor cells as a platform for room-temperature quantum devices. Furthermore, the result implies that previous coherent dynamics in single-atom Rydberg gates can be accelerated by 3 orders of magnitude.

Abstract
We report that two common tumor viruses etiologically associated with head and neck cancer, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) with undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and human papillomavirus (HPV) with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, transactivate an endogenous retrovirus (HERV-K18), which encodes a superantigen that activates TCRBV13 T cells. EBV LMP-2 transactivated the HERV-K18 superantigen in nasopharyngeal epithelial cells, and EBV-associated nasopharyngeal carcinomas expressed the superantigen. HPV type-16 E6 and E7 proteins also transactivated the HERV-K18 superantigen in oropharyngeal epithelial cells, and superantigen expression was significantly increased in HPV16-associated carcinomas. Serum cytokine levels in head and neck carcinoma patients indicated that there were distinct inflammatory profiles associated with exogenous and endogenous viruses. HPV-associated patients had increased levels of serum IL-8, while HPV-negative patients had higher serum IL-6 and G-CSF levels. Interestingly, HERV-K18 superantigen levels correlated independently with serum levels of the Th2 cytokine IL-13. Among HPV+ tumors, gene expression array analyses indicated that B cell specific genes were significantly upregulated in the superantigen high group. Our results suggest that endogenous superantigen expression in HPV+ tumors was associated with a Th2 immune response, demonstrating that chronic and endogenous viruses comprising the virome affect both host and tumor immunity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Epilepsy has a pervasive impact on the lives of people with intellectual disability and their carers. The delivery of high-quality care is impacted on by the complexity and diversity of epilepsy in this population. This article presents the results of a consensus clinical guideline process. RESULTS A Delphi process identified a list of priority areas for the development of evidence-based guidelines. All guidelines were graded and consensus on scoring was achieved across the guideline group. CONCLUSION There is a dearth of high-quality evidence from well-constructed studies on which to base guidance. However, the development of internationally derived consensus guidelines may further support the management of epilepsy in adults with an intellectual disability.

Abstract
Escalation therapy with mitoxantrone (MX) in highly active multiple sclerosis is limited by partially dose-dependent side-effects. Predictors of therapeutic response may result in individualized risk stratification and MX dosing. ATP-binding cassette-transporters ABCB1 and ABCG2 represent multi-drug resistance mechanisms involved in active cellular MX efflux. Here, we investigated the role of ABC-gene single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for clinical MX response, corroborated by experimental in vitro and in vivo data. Frequencies of ABCB1 2677G>T, 3435C>T and five ABCG2-SNPs were analysed in 832 multiple sclerosis patients (Germany, Spain) and 264 healthy donors. Using a flow-cytometry-based in vitro assay, MX efflux in leukocytes from individuals with variant alleles in both ABC-genes (designated genotype ABCB1/ABCG2-L(ow), 22.2% of patients) was 37.7% lower than from individuals homozygous for common alleles (ABCB1/ABCG2-H(igh), P < 0.05, 14.8% of patients), resulting in genotype-dependent MX accumulation and cell death. Addition of glucocorticosteroids (GCs) inhibited MX efflux in vitro. ABC-transporters were highly expressed in leukocyte subsets, glial and neuronal cells as well as myocardium, i.e. cells/tissues potentially affected by MX therapy. In vivo significance was further corroborated in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in Abcg2(-/-) animals. Using a MX dose titrated to be ineffective in wild-type animals, disease course and histopathology in Abcg2(-/-) mice were strongly ameliorated. Retrospective clinical analysis in MX monotherapy patients (n = 155) used expanded disability status scale, relapse rate and multiple sclerosis functional composite as major outcome parameters. The clinical response rate [overall 121 of 155 patients (78.1%)] increased significantly with genotypes associated with decreasing ABCB1/ABCG2-function [ABCB1/ABCG2-H 15/24 (62.5%) responders, ABCB1/ABCG2-I(ntermediate) 78/98 (79.6%), ABCB1/ABCG2-L 28/33 (84.8%), exact Cochran-Armitage test P = 0.039]. The odds ratio for response was 1.9 (95% CI 1.0-3.5) with each increase in ABCB1/ABCG2 score (from ABCB1/ABCG2-H to -I-, and -I to -L). In 36 patients with severe cardiac or haematological side effects no statistically relevant difference in genotype frequency was observed. However, one patient with biopsy proven cardiomyopathy only after 24 mg/m2 MX exhibited a rare genotype with variant, partly homozygous alleles in 3 ABC-transporter genes. In conclusion, SNPs in ABC-transporter genes may serve as pharmacogenetic markers associated with clinical response to MX therapy in multiple sclerosis. Combined MX/GC-treatment warrants further investigation.

Abstract
Norrie-Warburg syndrome (NWS) is a rare X-linked disorder characterized by blindness, which is invariable, deafness and mental disturbances, which are present occasionally. We describe here two novel mutations, a missense mutation (C126S) and a 1-base pair insertion (insT466/T467), together with a recurrent mutation (M1V), found in patients presenting with the classical clinical phenotype of NWS. All three mutations are likely to result in prominent structural changes of the norrin protein.
