Abstract
Tailoring the omnidirectional conductivity networks in nickel oxide-based electrodes is important for ensuring their long lifespan, stability, high capacity, and high-rate capability. In this study, nickel metal nanoparticles and a three-dimensional nitrogen-doped carbon matrix were used to embellish the nickel oxide composite NiO-Ni/N-C via simplified hard templating. When a porous nitrogen-doped carbon matrix is present, a rapid pathway would be established for charging and discharging the electrons and lithium ions in a lithium-ion battery, thereby alleviating the volumetric expansion of the NiO nanoparticles during the operation of the battery. Moreover, the Ni0 ions added to serve as active sites to improve the capacity of the NiO-based electrodes and strengthen their conductivities. The multielement-effects of the optimal NiO-Ni/N-C electrode leads it to exhibit a capacity of 1310.8 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 for 120 loops and a rate capability of 441.5 mAh g-1 at 20.0 A g-1. Kinetic analysis of the prepared electrodes proved their ultrafast ionic and electronic conductivities. This strategy of hard templating reduces the number of routes required for preparing different types of electrodes, including NiO-based electrodes, and improves their electrochemical performance to enable their use in energy storage applications.

Abstract
The simple and low-cost construction of a 3D network structure is an ideal way to prepare high-performance electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials. Herein, a series of carbon skeleton/carbon nanotubes/Ni3ZnC0.7 composites (CS/CNTs/Ni3ZnC0.7) are successfully prepared by in situ growth of Ni3ZnC0.7 and CNTs on 3D melamine sponge carbon. With the increase of precursor, Ni3ZnC0.7 nanoparticles nucleate and catalyze the generation of CNTs on the surface of the carbon skeleton. The minimum reflection loss (RL) value of the S60min composite (loading time of 60 min) reaches -86.6 dB at 1.6 mm and effective absorption bandwidth (EAB, RL≤-10 dB) is up to 9.3 GHz (8.7-18 GHz). The 3D network sponge carbon with layered micro/nanostructure and hollow skeleton promotes multiple reflection and absorption mechanisms of incident EMW. The N-doping and defects can be equivalent to an electric dipole, providing dipole polarization to increase dielectric relaxation. The uniform Ni3ZnC0.7 nanoparticles and CNTs play a key role in dissipating electromagnetic energy, blocking heat transfer, and enhancing the mechanical properties of the skeleton. Fortunately, the composite displays a quite low thermal conductivity of 0.09075 W m·K-1 and good flexibility, which can provide insulation and quickly recover to its original state after being stressed.

Abstract
With the development of electronic science and technology, electromagnetic pollution is becoming increasingly serious, which urgent people to develop wave-absorbing materials with the features of "thin, light, strong and wide". In this paper, restricted growth of molybdenum carbide nanoparticles in hierarchically porous nitrogen-doped carbon matrix (Mo2C/NC) was designed and prepared via a salt-assisted template route and carbonization process, whose morphology and the wave-absorbing properties are regulated by changing the content of Mo2C/NC nanoparticles. The honeycomb porous Mo2C/NC composites with large specific surface area and smooth surface can optimize the impedance matching and allow the entrance, multiple reflections and scattering of incident electromagnetic waves (EMW), which effective enhance the electromagnetic wave consumption. Meanwhile, the honeycomb cross-linked carbon matrix facilitates the construction of the conductive network and enhances its conductive loss. Furthermore, numerous Mo2C/NC nanoparticles dispersed restricted growth in carbon matrix induces interfacial polarization. In addition, the heteroatom nitrogen doping acts as dipole centers to induce dipole polarization under electromagnetic field. The uniquely designed Mo2C/NC absorbers show satisfactory EMW absorption behaviors of a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of -61.53 dB at 1.5 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 9.6 GHz at 3.5 mm. This work enriches the variety of EMW absorbers and offers the route to promote the EMW absorption performance, especially large effective absorption bandwidth.

Abstract
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and polysulfides (H2Sn, n ≥ 2) produced by enzymes play a role as signalling molecules regulating neurotransmission, vascular tone, cytoprotection, inflammation, oxygen sensing, and energy formation. H2Sn, which have additional sulfur atoms to H2S, and other S-sulfurated molecules such as cysteine persulfide and S-sulfurated cysteine residues of proteins, are produced by enzymes including 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (3MST). H2Sn are also generated by the chemical interaction of H2S with NO, or to a lesser extent with H2O2. S-sulfuration (S-sulfhydration) has been proposed as a mode of action of H2S and H2Sn to regulate the activity of target molecules. Recently, we found that H2S/H2S2 regulate the release of neurotransmitters, such as GABA, glutamate, and D-serine, a co-agonist of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. H2S facilitates the induction of hippocampal long-term potentiation, a synaptic model of memory formation, by enhancing the activity of NMDA receptors, while H2S2 achieves this by activating transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) channels in astrocytes, potentially leading to the activation of nearby neurons. The recent findings show the other aspects of TRPA1 channels-that is, the regulation of the levels of sulfur-containing molecules and their metabolizing enzymes. Disturbance of the signalling by H2S/H2Sn has been demonstrated to be involved in various diseases, including cognitive and psychiatric diseases. The physiological and pathophysiological roles of these molecules will be discussed.

Abstract
Multi-dimensional design and the combination of multiple phases can effectively enhance the dielectric loss properties and multiple reflection effects of absorbers. Herein, a novel multi-dimensional microporous nanostructured composite, melamine sponge (MS) loaded puffed-rice biomass carbon (C) together with bimetallic carbide material Ni3ZnC0.7 (Ni3ZnC0.7-MS/C) was synthesized by simple vacuum filtration and hydrothermal calcination. The result indicates that small Ni3ZnC0.7 particles with little Ni doping uniformly decorated on the surfaces of the three-dimensional (3D) melamine sponge and puffed rice carbons. The Ni3ZnC0.7-MS/C composite mixed with paraffin (weight ratio of 1:2) exhibited the best electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption performance, and the minimum reflection loss (RLmin) value of the Ni3ZnC0.7-MS/C composite reaches -107.7 dB with a matching thickness of 2.78 mm and the maximum effective absorption bandwidth for RL below -10 dB (EABmax) is adjusted to 9.2 GHz at a matching thickness of 4.0 mm. The dipole polarization effect of the N doping and the different interfaces provided by the 3D structure of the MS carbon enhance the conduction loss and interface polarization, while the positive effects of eddy current and resonance caused by Ni3ZnC0.7 effectively improve the microwave absorption performances. This melamine sponge-loaded bimetallic carbon composite exhibited a magnetic/dielectric loss combination, resulting in a high-performance absorber with lightweight, cost-effective and efficient properties.

Abstract
The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationship between sarcopenia and phase angle (PhA), and to examine whether PhA cutoff values can be used to identify sarcopenia in patients with hematologic malignancies. The study population comprised 108 patients with hematologic malignancies who were admitted for chemotherapy, and were undergoing rehabilitation for exercise therapy. The diagnostic criteria for sarcopenia were determined according to the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019. Muscle strength, endurance, and body composition (including PhA), were assessed. Logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were performed to investigate associations between sarcopenia and PhA, and to determine cutoff values. Sarcopenia was found in 17.6% of the participants. PhA was significantly associated with sarcopenia (p < 0.01). The areas under the curve were 0.84 for the males and 0.87 for the females, and the cutoff values were 4.75° for the males (sensitivity 69%, specificity 83%) and 3.95° for the females (sensitivity 78%, specificity 85%). Our results suggest that PhA, which can be measured noninvasively, objectively, and rapidly, can be used as a screening tool for sarcopenia in patients with hematologic malignancies.

Abstract
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and polysulfides (H2Sn, n ≥ 2) are signaling molecules produced by 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (3MST) that play various physiological roles, including the induction of hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP), a synaptic model of memory formation, by enhancing N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor activity. However, the presynaptic action of H2S/H2Sn on neurotransmitter release, regulation of LTP induction, and animal behavior are poorly understood. Here, we showed that H2S/H2S2 applied to the rat hippocampus by in vivo microdialysis induces the release of GABA, glutamate, and D-serine, a co-agonist of NMDA receptors. Animals with genetically knocked-out 3MST and the target of H2S2, transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) channels, revealed that H2S/H2S2, 3MST, and TRPA1 activation play a critical role in LTP induction, and the lack of 3MST causes behavioral hypersensitivity to NMDA receptor antagonism, as in schizophrenia. H2S/H2Sn, 3MST, and TRPA1 channels have therapeutic potential for psychiatric diseases and cognitive deficits.

Abstract
Cobalt nickel bimetallic oxides (NiCo2O4) have received numerous attentions in terms of their controllable morphology, high temperature, corrosion resistance and strong electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption capability. However, broadening the absorption bandwidth is still a huge challenge for NiCo2O4-based absorbers. Herein, the unique NiCo2O4@C core-shell microcubes with hollow structures were fabricated via a facile sacrificial template strategy. The concentration of oxygen vacancies and morphologies of the three-dimensional (3D) cubic hollow core-shell NiCo2O4@C framework were effectively optimized by adjusting the calcination temperature. The specially designed 3D framework structure facilitated the multiple reflections of incident electromagnetic waves and provided rich interfaces between multiple components, generating significant interfacial polarization losses. Dipole polarizations induced by oxygen vacancies could further enhance the attenuation ability for the incident EM waves. The optimized NiCo2O4@C hollow microcubes exhibit superior EMW absorption capability with minimum RL (RLmin) of -84.45 dB at 8.4 GHz for the thickness of 3.0 mm. Moreover, ultrabroad effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) as large as 12.48 GHz (5.52-18 GHz) is obtained. This work is believed to illuminate the path to synthesis of high-performance cobalt nickel bimetallic oxides for EMW absorbers with excellent EMW absorption capability, especially in broadening effective absorption bandwidth.

Abstract
Bi2Se3, one of the most extensively studied topological insulators, has received significant attention, and abundant research has been dedicated to exploring its surface electronic properties. However, little attention has been given to its piezoelectric properties. Herein, we investigate the piezoelectric response in a five-layer Bi2Se3 nanosheet using scanning probe microscopy (SPM) techniques. The piezoelectricity of Bi2Se3 is characterized using both conventional piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) and a sequential excitation scanning probe microscopy (SE-SPM) technique. To confirm the linear piezoelectricity of Bi2Se3 two-dimensional materials, measurements of point-wise linear and quadratic electromechanical responses are carried out. Furthermore, the presence of polarization and relaxation is confirmed through hysteresis loops. As expected, the Bi2Se3 nanosheet exhibits an electromechanical solid response. Due to the inevitable loss of translational symmetry at the crystal edge, the lattice of the odd-layer Bi2Se3 nanosheet is noncentrosymmetric, indicating its potential for linear piezoelectricity. This research holds promise for nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) applications and future nanogenerators.

Abstract
With the rapidly development of radar detection technology and the increasingly complex application environment in military field and electromagnetic pollution surrounded by electron devices, increasingly demand is needed for electromagnetic wave absorbent materials with high absorption efficiency and thermal stability. Herein, a novel Ni3ZnC0.7/Ni loaded puffed-rice derived carbon (RNZC) composites are successfully prepared by vacuum filtration of metal-organic frameworks gel precursor together with layered porous-structure carbon and followed by calcination. The Ni3ZnC0.7 particles uniformly decorate on the surface and pores of puffed-rice derived carbon. The puffed-rice derived carbon@Ni3ZnC0.7/Ni-400 mg (RNZC-4) sample displayed the best electromagnetic wave absorption (EMA) performances among the samples with different Ni3ZnC0.7 loading. The minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of the RNZC-4 composite reaches -39.9 dB at 8.6 GHz, while widest effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of RNZC-4 for RL < -10 dB can reach 9.9 GHz (8.1-18 GHz, 1.49 mm). High porosity and large specific surface area promote the multiple reflection-absorption effect of the incident electromagnetic waves. The Ni3ZnC0.7 nanoparticles provide a large number of interfaces and dipole factors. Analysis reveals that the RNZC-4 remained general stability under 400 °C with formation of a small amount of NiO and ZnO phases. Surprisingly, at such high temperature, the absorbing properties of the material are improved rather than decreased. Obviously, the material still maintains good electromagnetic wave performance at high temperature, and implies that the absorber shows good performance stability. Therefore, our preparations exhibit potential applications under extreme conditions and a new insight for the design and application of bimetallic carbides.

Abstract
Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) and pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) are rare complications of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Herein, we report the case of a 28-year-old Japanese man who showed severe AIHA exacerbation associated with PRCA after COVID-19. AIHA was diagnosed and maintained for 5 years. Approximately 4 weeks after COVID-19, the patient developed severe anemia (hemoglobin level, 3.4 g/dL). Laboratory test results confirmed hemolytic exacerbation of IgG-mediated warm-type AIHA. Despite the hemolysis phase, the bone marrow revealed extreme hypoplasia of erythroblasts with a decreased reticulocyte count, similar to that observed in patients with PRCA. During oral prednisolone treatment, the patient recovered from anemia and showed increased reticulocyte count and reduced hypoplasia of marrow erythroblasts. Exacerbation of AIHA and PRCA was triggered by COVID-19 because other causes were ruled out. Although this case report highlights that COVID-19 could lead to hematological complications such as AIHA and PRCA, the exact mechanisms remain unclear.

Abstract
ZnO nanoparticles in a spherical-like structure were synthesized via filtration and calcination methods, and different amounts of ZnO nanoparticles were added to MgH2 via ball milling. The SEM images revealed that the size of the composites was about 2 μm. The composites of different states were composed of large particles with small particles covering them. After the absorption and desorption cycle, the phase of composites changed. The MgH2-2.5 wt% ZnO composite reveals excellent performance among the three samples. The results show that the MgH2-2.5 wt% ZnO sample can swiftly absorb 3.77 wt% H2 in 20 min at 523 K and even at 473 K for 1 h can absorb 1.91 wt% H2. Meanwhile, the sample of MgH2-2.5 wt% ZnO can release 5.05 wt% H2 at 573 K within 30 min. Furthermore, the activation energies (Ea) of hydrogen absorption and desorption of the MgH2-2.5 wt% ZnO composite are 72.00 and 107.58 KJ/mol H2, respectively. This work reveals that the phase changes and the catalytic action of MgH2 in the cycle after the addition of ZnO, and the facile synthesis of the ZnO can provide direction for the better synthesis of catalyst materials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) are challenging to manage, leading to caregiver burden and often to subsequent transfer of patients to a nursing home or psychiatric hospital for treatment. Eliciting favourable positive emotions should be an important goal in the treatment of negative emotions associated with BPSD. To date, no data have indicated that antipsychotic medications can improve positive emotions. BPSD are known to be associated with anxiety in patients with dementia. The traditional Chinese medicine Jia Wei Gui Pi Tang is officially indicated and approved for anxiety treatment in Japan. METHODS Here, we performed a multicentre, randomised, observer-blind control study of the effect of Jia Wei Gui Pi Tang on BPSD in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients. Patients with AD or AD with cerebral vascular disease were randomly divided into the Jia Wei Gui Pi Tang treatment group and the control group that received no traditional Chinese medicine. BPSD were scored using the Neuropsychiatric Inventory Nursing Home Version (NPI-NH) and by favourable positive emotions using the Delightful Emotional Index (DEI). RESULTS A total of 63 participants (18 male and 45 female; mean age: 83.3 ± 6.0 years) were included in the study. Changes in NPI-NH scores differed significantly between the two groups (one-way analysis of variance, P < 0.001). Within the treatment group, there was a significant improvement in the NPI-NH score from 29.8 ± 17.3 at baseline to 13.2 ± 9.4 at the endpoint (paired t-test, P < 0.001), whereas there was no statistically significant change in the control group. Changes in DEI scores differed significantly between the two groups. Within the treatment group, there was a significant improvement in the DEI score from 24.3 ± 23.0 at baseline to 32.5 ± 21.2 at the endpoint (paired t-test, P = 0.001), whereas there was no statistically significant change in the control group. CONCLUSION The traditional Chinese medicine Jia Wei Gui Pi Tang significantly improved both BPSD and positive emotions.

Abstract
This study investigates the efficacy of and gender differences in exercise therapy in patients with malignant lymphoma undergoing chemotherapy. Twenty-six patients (13 men, 13 women) received physical therapy (based on the Borg Scale 13) during hospitalization. Physical function was measured using grip and knee extension strength, 6-minute walking distance, and body composition; nutritional status assessed via Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA®); and serum albumin levels analyzed. Fatigue was evaluated using the Brief Fatigue Inventory, and health-related quality of life was assessed with the Medical Outcome Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36v2). The analysis of all patients indicated that the right grip strength, skeletal muscle mass, skeletal muscle index, and leg muscle mass significantly decreased, whereas the serum albumin level, MNA® score, and scores of many items of the SF-36v2 significantly increased after chemotherapy. In a gender-specific analysis, only men showed significant declines in the skeletal muscle mass and skeletal muscle index, and improvement in the MNA® score after chemotherapy. In the SF-36v2, there were significant improvements in general health and physical component summary scores among men, and general health and mental component summary scores among women. Exercise therapy at a Borg Scale intensity of 13 may not prevent muscle mass decline in patients with malignant lymphoma, especially male patients. In addition, this study revealed that there is a gender difference in the effect of exercise therapy on quality of life. Thus, gender should be considered in exercise therapy for patients with malignant lymphoma.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of exercise therapy on physical function and quality of life (QOL) in older patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma undergoing inpatient chemotherapy, including differences between patients with and without sarcopenia. METHODS Thirty-one inpatients aged 70 years or older participated in this study. Grip and knee extensor strength, 6-minute walking test, body composition, nutritional status, fatigue and health-related QOL at admission and discharge were compared. In addition, the patients were classified into sarcopenic and non-sarcopenic groups, and a comparison between admission and discharge and 2-way ANOVA were performed. RESULTS Overall, grip strength and skeletal muscle mass were significantly lower at discharge than at admission (P < .05); however, QOL significantly improved (P < .05). In the non-sarcopenia group, grip strength, right knee extension muscle strength, and skeletal muscle mass were all significantly lower at discharge than at admission (P < .05); however, this was not the case in the sarcopenia group. In terms of QOL, improvements were observed in different items in the non-sarcopenia and sarcopenia groups. There was a significant interaction between admission to discharge time period and sarcopenia regarding left grip strength, right knee extensor strength, and QOL. CONCLUSION Exercise therapy is effective in improving QOL in older non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients undergoing inpatient chemotherapy. However, the effect of exercise therapy and optimal exercise load may differ between non-sarcopenia and sarcopenia patients. Therefore, it is necessary to consider exercise therapy in the future, taking into account the presence or absence of sarcopenia.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess changes in the quality of life and psychological distress of patients with tongue cancer undergoing total/subtotal glossectomy (TG) or extended hemiglossectomy (HG) and free flap transfer. Differences between the two groups were compared using the Short Form 8-Item Health Survey (SF-8) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Of the 43 patients with tongue cancer, 24 (56%) underwent TG and 19 (44%) underwent HG. The general health and social functioning scores in the SF-8 and depression in the HADS were significantly worse in the TG group than in the HG group at 12 months after surgery, indicating that patients in the TG group may experience social isolation and psychological distress, and have difficulty in employability even 12 months after surgery. In contrast, all items of the SF-8 in the HG group were nearly equal to those in the general population. Due to the extensive psychological impact on patients with tongue cancer who are planned for an extended resection, curative surgery with free flap transfer and multidisciplinary psychiatric support are essential to improve quality of life and manage psychological distress.

Abstract
N-Methylated amino acids (N-MeAAs) are privileged residues of naturally occurring peptides critical to bioactivity. However, de novo discovery from ribosome display is limited by poor incorporation of N-methylated amino acids into the nascent peptide chain attributed to a poor EF-Tu affinity for the N-methyl-aminoacyl-tRNA. By reconfiguring the tRNA's T-stem region to compensate and tune the EF-Tu affinity, we conducted Random nonstandard Peptides Integrated Discovery (RaPID) display of a macrocyclic peptide (MCP) library containing six different N-MeAAs. We have here devised a "pool-and-split" enrichment strategy using the RaPID display and identified N-methylated MCPs against three species of prokaryotic metal-ion-dependent phosphoglycerate mutases. The enriched MCPs reached 57% N-methylation with up to three consecutively incorporated N-MeAAs, rivaling natural products. Potent nanomolar inhibitors ranging in ortholog selectivity, strongly mediated by N-methylation, were identified. Co-crystal structures reveal an architecturally related Ce-2 Ipglycermide active-site metal-ion-coordinating Cys lariat MCP, functionally dependent on two cis N-MeAAs with broadened iPGM species selectivity over the original nematode-selective MCPs. Furthermore, the isolation of a novel metal-ion-independent Staphylococcus aureus iPGM inhibitor utilizing a phosphoglycerate mimetic mechanism illustrates the diversity of possible chemotypes encoded by the N-MeAA MCP library.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE ICA-selective MRA using a pencil beam presaturation pulse can accurately visualize anterior communicating artery flow. We evaluated the impact of anterior communicating artery flow on the perioperative hemodynamic status and new ischemic lesions after carotid revascularization. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eighty-three patients with carotid artery stenosis were included. We assessed anterior communicating artery flow using ICA-selective MRA. The preoperative hemodynamic status was measured using SPECT. We also measured the change in regional cerebral oxygen saturation after temporary ICA occlusion. New ischemic lesions were evaluated by DWI on the day after treatment. RESULTS Anterior communicating artery flow was detected in 61 patients, but it was not detected in 22 patients. Preoperative cerebrovascular reactivity was significantly higher in patients with (versus without) anterior communicating artery flow with a mean peak systolic velocity of ≥200 cm/s (39.6% [SD, 23.8%] versus 25.2% [SD, 16.4%]; P = .030). The decrease in mean regional cerebral oxygen saturation was significantly greater in patients without (versus with) anterior communicating artery flow (8.5% [SD, 5.6%] versus 3.7% [SD, 3.8%]; P = .002). New ischemic lesions after the procedure were observed in 23 patients. The multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that anterior communicating artery flow (OR, 0.07; 95% CI, 0.012-0.45; P = .005) was associated with new ischemic lesions. CONCLUSIONS The absence of anterior communicating artery flow influenced the perioperative hemodynamic status in patients with carotid stenosis and was associated with an increased incidence of new ischemic lesions after carotid revascularization.

Abstract
CuInP2S6 (CIPS) is a novel two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) ferroelectric layered material with a Curie temperature of TC~315 K, making it promising for great potential applications in electronic and photoelectric devices. Herein, the ferroelectric and electric properties of CIPS at different thicknesses are carefully evaluated by scanning probe microscopy techniques. Some defects in some local regions due to Cu deficiency lead to a CuInP2S6–In4/3P2S6 (CIPS–IPS) paraelectric phase coexisting with the CIPS ferroelectric phase. An electrochemical strain microscopy (ESM) study reveals that the relaxation times corresponding to the Cu ions and the IPS ionospheres are not the same, with a significant difference in their response to DC voltage, related to the rectification effect of the ferroelectric tunnel junction (FTJ). The electric properties of the FTJ indicate Cu+ ion migration and propose that the current flow and device performance are dynamically controlled by an interfacial Schottky barrier. The addition of the ferroelectricity of CIPS opens up applications in memories and sensors, actuators, and even spin-orbit devices based on 2D vdW heterostructures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: The presence of depressive symptoms in patients with non-tuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD) is an important research topic; however, the prevalence of depressive symptoms and the factors that influence their development are unclear.OBJECTIVE: To analyse the association between CES-D (Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale) scores and clinical parameters such as age, disease duration, pulmonary function, imaging findings, blood data, physical functions, sleep disturbances, respiratory symptoms and health-related quality of life (HRQOL).METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional retrospective study of 114 patients with NTM-PD at a single centre from March 2016 to January 2021 to evaluate the relationship between CES-D scores and clinical parameters.RESULTS: Participants had a median age of 64 years; 32.5% of them had depressive symptoms. Disease duration, albumin, C-reactive protein, pulmonary function, dyspnoea, exercise capacity, respiratory symptoms, cough-related HRQOL and sleep disturbances were associated with depressive symptoms. Binomial logistic regression analyses indicated that the CES-D score was significantly associated with cough-related HRQOL and sleep disturbances.CONCLUSION: A high percentage of NTM-PD patients in this study experienced depressive symptoms, and these patients had abnormalities of various clinical parameters. Cough-related HRQOL and sleep disturbance had a strong influence on the development of depressive symptoms.

Abstract
High-performance Zn||I2 batteries were established by coating zeolite protecting layers. The Zn2+-conductive layer suppresses I3- shuttling, Zn corrosion/dendrite growth. The Zeolite-Zn||I2 batteries achieve long lifespan (91.92% capacity retention after 5600 cycles), high coulombic efficiencies (99.76% in average) and large capacity (203-196 mAh g-1 at 0.2 A g-1) simultaneously. The intrinsically safe Zn||I2 battery, one of the leading candidates aiming to replace traditional Pb-acid batteries, is still seriously suffering from short shelf and cycling lifespan, due to the uncontrolled I3--shuttling and dynamic parasitic reactions on Zn anodes. Considering the fact that almost all these detrimental processes terminate on the surfaces of Zn anodes, modifying Zn anodes' surface with protecting layers should be one of the most straightforward and thorough approaches to restrain these processes. Herein, a facile zeolite-based cation-exchange protecting layer is designed to comprehensively suppress the unfavored parasitic reactions on the Zn anodes. The negatively-charged cavities in the zeolite lattice provide highly accessible migration channels for Zn2+, while blocking anions and electrolyte from passing through. This low-cost cation-exchange protecting layer can simultaneously suppress self-discharge, anode corrosion/passivation, and Zn dendrite growth, awarding the Zn||I2 batteries with ultra-long cycle life (91.92% capacity retention after 5600 cycles at 2 A g-1), high coulombic efficiencies (99.76% in average) and large capacity (203-196 mAh g-1 at 0.2 A g-1). This work provides a highly affordable approach for the construction of high-performance Zn-I2 aqueous batteries.

Abstract
The lotus seedpod-based activated carbon (LSAC) is derived from pyrolysis of lotus seedpod as biomass carbon precursor, and Co3O4 is then deposited to LSAC by oxidation-precipitation and crystallization process of Co ions from Co(NO3)2 solution. The Co3O4 particles uniformly decorate on the surface and/or the inner channels of LSAC. The optimal reflection loss (RL) value of LSAC/Co3O4-paraffin wax (PW) composite reaches -39.8 dB, and the bandwidth for RL below -10 dB and -20 dB are 10.3 and 3.0 GHz, respectively, much better than that of LSAC-PW composite for the higher magnetic loss. The addition of Co3O4 particles in LSAC-PW composite significantly enhance the RL values in various thicknesses. The channels of the LSAC and decorated Co3O4 can improve the abilities of multiple scattering, dipole polarization, interface polarization and magnetic loss. This composite provides a promising method to construct high performance absorbers by using biomass carbon to tune the dielectric properties of the ferromagnetic materials.

Abstract
[Purpose] Physical therapy for patients with multiple myeloma requires appropriate
exercise intensity and risk management due to osteolytic lesions. However, the optimal
strategy for setting exercise intensity remains unclear. We report cases in which physical
therapy was performed using the Borg scale and the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse
Events v4.0 as indicators of improvement in the performance of activities of daily living
without causing adverse events. [Participants and Methods] Two patients with multiple
myeloma, whose performance status was 4, underwent resistance training of the upper and
lower limbs and activities of daily living practice in stages according to their
functional status. Each exercise was performed for 20 to 40 minutes twice a day for 6 days
a week. The exercise intensity was set to 13 on the Borg scale as a guide, and the
allowable bone pain was up to Grade 1 according to Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse
Events v4.0. [Results] No adverse events occurred in either patient, and the performance
status improved to 1 or 2. Subsequently, autologous peripheral hematopoietic stem cell
transplantation was performed. [Conclusion] Physical therapy with exercise intensity set
to 13 on the Borg scale and Grade 1 per Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events
v4.0 may safely improve the performance of activities of daily living of patients with
multiple myeloma.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Accumulating evidence suggests that high uric acid is strongly associated with obesity and metabolic syndrome and drives the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and insulin resistance. Although urate transporter-1 (URAT1), which is primarily expressed in the kidney, plays a critical role in the development of hyperuricemia, its pathophysiological implication in NAFLD and insulin resistance remains unclear.
Objectives
We hypothesizes that URAT1 plays an important role in obesity-induced metabolic disorders, and URAT1-selective inhibitor treatment ameliorates systemic insulin resistance, NAFLD and adipose tissue dysfunction using diet-induced obese mice.
Methods
Mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD) for 16 to 18 weeks or a normal-fat diet (NFD) were treated with or without a novel oral URAT1-selective inhibitor (dotinurad [50 mg/kg/day]) for another 4 weeks.
Results
Dotinurad administration significantly ameliorated HFD-induced obesity and insulin resistance. We found that URAT1 was also expressed in the liver and brown adipose tissue (BAT) other than kidney. HFD markedly induced NAFLD, which was characterized by severe hepatic steatosis, as well as the elevation of serum ALT activity and tissue inflammatory cytokine genes (Ccl2 and TNFα), all of which were attenuated by dotinurad. Likewise, HFD significantly increased URAT1 expression in BAT, resulting in the lipid accumulation (whitening of BAT) and increased production of tissue reactive oxygen species, which were reduced by dotinurad via UCP1 activation.
Conclusions
A novel URAT1-selective inhibitor, dotinurad, ameliorates insulin resistance by attenuating hepatic steatosis and promoting rebrowning of lipid-rich BAT in HFD-induced obese mice. URAT1 serves as a key regulator of the pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome, and may be a new therapeutic target for insulin-resistant individuals, particularly those with concomitant NAFLD.

Abstract
In cellular signaling, the diverse physiological actions of biological gases, including O2, CO, NO, and H2S, have attracted much interest. Hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs), including HIF-1 and HIF-2, are transcription factors that respond to reduced intracellular O2 availability. Polysulfides are substances containing varying numbers of sulfur atoms (H2Sn) that are generated endogenously from H2S by 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase in the presence of O2, and regulate ion channels, specific tumor suppressors, and protein kinases. However, the effect of polysulfides on HIF activation in hypoxic mammalian cells is largely unknown. Here, we have investigated the effect of polysulfide on cells in vitro. In established cell lines, polysulfide donors reversibly reduced cellular O2 consumption and inhibited hypoxia-induced HIF-1α protein accumulation and the expression of genes downstream of HIFs; however, these effects were not observed in anoxia. In Von Hippel-Lindau tumor suppressor (VHL)- and mitochondria-deficient cells, polysulfides did not affect HIF-1α protein synthesis but destabilized it in a VHL- and mitochondria-dependent manner. For the first time, we show that polysulfides modulate intracellular O2 homeostasis and regulate HIF activation and subsequent hypoxia-induced gene expression in a VHL- and mitochondria-dependent manner.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown a reduction in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with non-tuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD). However, the causes of this decline and the factors that contribute to it are unknown. This study was conducted to analyse the association between the St George´s Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) and clinical parameters, including age, disease duration, body composition, pulmonary function, chest X-ray findings, blood data and physical function.METHODS: We performed a single-centre, cross-sectional, retrospective study of 101 patients with NTM-PD from December 2016 to October 2019. The relationship between the SGRQ scores and clinical parameters was evaluated.RESULTS: The median patient age was 67.0 years. Pulmonary function, radiological score, albumin levels, C-reactive protein levels and incremental shuttle walk test distance (ISWD) were significantly correlated with the total and component scores on the SGRQ. Multiple regression analysis showed that the SGRQ score was significantly associated with radiological score, pulmonary function and ISWD.CONCLUSION: This study was the first to assess the effect of clinical parameters on the SGRQ in patients with NTM-PD. HRQoL as determined using the SGRQ was associated with the radiological score, pulmonary function and ISWD in patients with NTM-PD.

Abstract
Background: A severely obese woman (39.8 kg/m2) with relapsed acute myeloid leukemia was admitted to our hospital to undergo salvage chemotherapy followed by cord blood transplantation (CBT). Case: During the salvage chemotherapy period, a 70-day weight loss program addressing diet and exercise was administered. After the 70-day intervention, the patient’s body weight and body fat mass had decreased (8.6% and 15.0%, respectively) without any adverse events. The number of available cord blood units with total nucleated cells per body weight greater than 2 × 107/kg was zero at admission and two after weight loss; therefore, CBT could be performed. Discussion: Considering this case, we suggest that a weight loss program combining exercise and nutrition therapy may help patients scheduled for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation by focusing on risk management.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Accumulating evidence suggests that high serum uric acid (UA) is associated with left ventricular (LV) dysfunction. Although xanthine oxidase (XO) activation is a critical regulatory mechanism of the terminal step in ATP and purine degradation, the pathophysiological role of cardiac tissue XO in LV dysfunction remains unclear.
Objectives
We hypothesized that cardiac XO is activated in doxorubicin-induced LV dysfunction, and XO inhibitors ameliorate LV function by inhibiting cell death signals as well as by modifying cardiac purine metabolism.
Methods
Either doxorubicin (10 mg/kg) or vehicle was intraperitonially administered in a single injection to ICR mice. Mice were treated with or without oral XO inhibitors (febuxostat 3 mg/kg/day or topiroxostat 5 mg/kg/day) for 8 days starting 24 hours before doxorubicin-injection. The LV function was assessed by echocardiography at day 6 and by ex vivo heart perfusion at day 7.
Results
Cardiac tissue XO activity measured by a highly sensitive assay with liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (n=8 each) and cardiac UA content (n=3–6) were significantly increased in doxorubicin-treated mice at day 7 and dramatically reduced by XO inhibitors. Accordingly, XO inhibitors substantially improved LV ejection fraction (n=8 each) and LV developed pressure (n=9 each) that had been impaired by doxorubicin administration. Intriguingly, the expression of GPX4, a negative regulator of ferroptosis, was decreased in doxorubicin-treated hearts but improved by XO inhibitors (n=6 each). Furthermore, metabolome analyses revealed an enhanced purine metabolism in doxorubicin-treated hearts, and XO inhibitors suppressed the serial metabolic reaction of hypoxanthine–xanthine–UA.
Conclusions
Doxorubicin administration induces cardiac tissue XO activation associated with an impaired LV function. XO inhibition attenuates the doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity partly through an anti-ferroptotic effect and the conservation of tissue ATP levels by modulating purine metabolism. The present study suggests that pharmacological XO inhibition represents a potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity.

Abstract
Hydrogen sulfide (H2 S) together with polysulfides (H2 Sn , n > 2) are signalling molecules like NO with various physiological roles including regulation of neuronal transmission, vascular tone, inflammation and oxygen sensing. H2 S and H2 Sn diffuse to the target proteins for S-sulfurating their cysteine residues that induces the conformational changes to alter the activity. On the other hand, 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase transfers sulfur from a substrate 3-mercaptopyruvate to the cysteine residues of acceptor proteins. A similar mechanism has also been identified in S-nitrosylation. S-sulfuration and S-nitrosylation by enzymes proceed only inside the cell, while reactions induced by H2 S, H2 Sn and NO even extend to the surrounding cells. Disturbance of signalling by these molecules as well as S-sulfuration and S-nitrosylation causes many nervous system diseases. This review focuses on the signalling by H2 S and H2 Sn with S-sulfuration comparing to that of NO with S-nitrosylation and discusses on their roles in physiology and pathophysiology.

Abstract
During replication, nucleosomes are disrupted ahead of the replication fork, followed by their reassembly on daughter strands from the pool of recycled parental and new histones. However, because no previous studies have managed to capture the moment that replication forks encounter nucleosomes, the mechanism of recycling has remained unclear. Here, through real-time single-molecule visualization of replication fork progression in Xenopus egg extracts, we determine explicitly the outcome of fork collisions with nucleosomes. Most of the parental histones are evicted from the DNA, with histone recycling, nucleosome sliding, and replication fork stalling also occurring but at lower frequencies. Critically, we find that local histone recycling becomes dominant upon depletion of endogenous histones from extracts, revealing that free histone concentration is a key modulator of parental histone dynamics at the replication fork. The mechanistic details revealed by these studies have major implications for our understanding of epigenetic inheritance.

Abstract
After the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant accident, most of radiocesium-contaminated soil generated from decontamination activities outside Fukushima prefecture has been stored at decontamination sites such as schools, parks and residential lands (storage at sites) according to the Decontamination Guidelines. However, additional exposure due to the present storage has not been evaluated. Moreover, entering storage sites, which is not restricted for storage at sites, was not considered in safety assessment conducted in the guidelines. To continue the storage and confirm the effectiveness, understanding of present possible exposures is important. In this study, we evaluated exposure doses for residents and users of storage sites based on the present situation. As a result, annual doses due to residence were 10-2 to 10-3 mSv y-1 and doses due to annual entries were of the order of 10-3 mSv y-1. Hence, we confirmed that the exposure due to present storage outside Fukushima is significantly <1 mSv y-1.

Introduction
The use of an orexin 2 receptor (OX2R) agonist may be a promising approach for the treatment of narcolepsy type 1. TAK-994 is a novel, orally available OX2R-selective agonist with >700-fold selectivity against orexin 1 receptor. Single administration of TAK-994 ameliorates narcolepsy-like symptoms such as fragmentation of wakefulness and cataplexy-like episodes in orexin/ataxin-3 mice, a narcolepsy mouse model with orexin deficiency. In this study, we evaluated the effect of chronic dosing with TAK-994 on sleep/wakefulness states in orexin/ataxin-3 mice.
Methods
Orexin/ataxin-3 mice were grouped into two cohorts: a control group and a 14-day treatment group. In the control group, vehicle was administered orally to mice three times a day: zeitgeber time 12 (ZT12), ZT15 and ZT18, for 14 days. In the 14-day treatment group, TAK-994 was administered orally to mice at ZT12, ZT15 and ZT18 for 14 days. Electroencephalogram/electromyogram analysis was performed on day 1 and day 14 (ZT12-ZT21), and the subsequent sleep phase (ZT0-ZT10).
Results
On day 1, TAK-994 significantly increased wakefulness time, accompanied by a decrease in non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep time and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep time, in orexin/ataxin-3 mice compared with the control group. On day 14, TAK-994 also significantly increased wakefulness time, and decreased NREM sleep time and REM sleep time in orexin/ataxin-3 mice. There were no changes in the time spent in wakefulness, NREM sleep and REM sleep during the subsequent sleep phase after chronic dosing with TAK-994.
Conclusion
Wake-promoting effects of TAK-994 were observed following chronic dosing for up to 14 days in orexin/ataxin-3 mice with no rebound of sleep. Overall, there was no clear difference in efficacy between the single and repeated administration of TAK-994 in orexin/ataxin-3 mice.

Patients with narcolepsy type 1 (NT1) suffer from distressing symptoms such as excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and cataplexy. Modafinil is widely used as a therapy for NT1; however, it has limited efficacy for EDS and no efficacy for cataplexy. TAK-925 is an orexin 2 receptor (OX2R)-selective agonist which improves multiple symptoms of narcolepsy such as fragmentation of wakefulness and cataplexy-like episodes, and also reduces weight gain, in orexin/ataxin-3 mice, a narcolepsy mouse model. An early proof of concept study showed TAK-925 increased wakefulness compared to placebo in individuals with NT1; however, a head-to-head comparison between TAK-925 and modafinil in NT1 has not been performed to date. In this study, we carefully compared the wake-promoting effects of TAK-925 and modafinil in orexin/ataxin-3 mice.
Methods
TAK-925 or modafinil was administered to orexin/ataxin-3 mice at zeitgeber time 12, and the sleep/wakefulness states were evaluated based on electroencephalogram (EEG) and electromyogram measurements. EEG spectral analysis was performed by fast Fourier transform during wakefulness. EEG frequency band was divided into five frequency bands: delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma.
Results
Both TAK-925 and modafinil significantly increased wakefulness time, and ameliorated fragmentation of wakefulness, in orexin/ataxin-3 mice during active phase. In contrast, TAK-925, but not modafinil, significantly decreased delta power, and increased alpha and gamma power during wakefulness in orexin/ataxin-3 mice, suggesting a shift in EEG power density toward higher frequencies.
Conclusion
TAK-925, but not modafinil, enhanced cortical arousal and suppressed signs of somnolence and drowsiness. In a phase 1 study in individuals with NT1, TAK-925 was found to have pronounced effects on the maintenance of wakefulness test, reaching a total duration of 40 minutes wake time at some doses tested. Spectral analysis will be evaluated in future studies in NT1 patients.

Abstract
These are the results of phase II study of bortezomib-melphalan-prednisolone (VMP) induction therapy followed by lenalidomide-dexamethasone (Rd) consolidation and lenalidomide maintenance in transplant-ineligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM). The primary end point was progression-free survival (PFS). Secondary end points included overall survival (OS), overall response rates (ORRs), and safety. Eighty-three eligible patients were enrolled between October 2012 and August 2014. The median PFS was 28.0 months (95% CI 19.6-36.7) and the median OS was 55.3 months (95% CI 51.6-NA). Among the patients who received lenalidomide maintenance therapy, median PFS was significantly improved in patients who had achieved a very good partial response (VGPR) or better (41.8 vs 20.7 months, p = 0.0070). As the best response, the rates of partial response or better were 85.5% comprising stringent complete response (sCR, 21.7%), complete response (CR, 10.8%), VGPR (18.1%), and partial response (PR, 34.9%). The most frequently observed grade 3 or higher adverse events during the VMP therapy were anemia (28.9%), neutropenia (15.6%), thrombocytopenia (6.0%), and peripheral neuropathy (2.4%). The most frequently observed grade 3 or higher adverse events during the Rd therapy were anemia (3.5%), neutropenia (1.8%), and skin rush (5.3%). The most frequently observed grade 3 or higher adverse events during lenalidomide maintenance therapy were anemia (7.4%) and neutropenia (24.1%). Thus, VMP induction therapy followed by Rd consolidation and lenalidomide maintenance is considered a well-tolerated and effective regimen in transplant-ineligible NDMM. Abstract
In inorganic-organic perovskites, the three-dimensional arrangement of the organic group results in more subtle balance of charge, spin and space, thereby providing an attractive route toward new multiferroics. Here we report the existing of multiple ferroic orderings in inorganic-organic layered perovskites with relative strong hydrogen bond ordering of the organic chains intra plane. In addition, the inter plane in perovskite is stacking via van der Waals force. However, such magnetoelectric coupling properties for this compound have not been reported since it is difficult to characterize the properties in single crystals since most of the hybrid perovskites are usually deliquescent and unstable when exposed to air. To deal with these problems, we synthesized a (CH3NH3)2CuCl4 single crystal by using a simple evaporation technique, and demonstrated ferroelectric, magnetic and magneto-electric properties of (CH3NH3)2CuCl4. The internal hydrogen bonding of easily tunable organic unit combined with 3d transition-metal layers in such hybrid perovskites make (CH3NH3)2CuCl4 a multiferroic crystal with magnetoelectrical coupling and offer an new way to engineer multifunctional multiferroic.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Vertical jump height and oral function affect the general muscle condition. This study aimed to evaluate the association between vertical jump height and oral function among healthy older individuals. BASIC RESEARCH DESIGN Cross-sectional analytic study. PARTICIPANTS 231 independent older people (mean age, 74.4 ± 5.6 years) who participated in the Kyoto Elders Physical Fitness Measurement Research Project. Individuals with partial or complete edentulousness who did not use a prosthetic device or complained of oral/maxillofacial pain were excluded from the study. INTERVENTIONS Grip strength was measured using a Smedley Hand Dynamometer. To measure masticatory performance, the participants were instructed to chew a gummy jelly on their habitual chewing side (left or right) for 20 s. Occlusal force, contact area, and pressure were also assessed. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The outcome variable was vertical jump height. The predictor variables were physical status (age, body mass index, and grip strength), oral status (number of present teeth and denture use), and oral function (masticatory performance, occlusal force, occlusal contact area, occlusal pressure, and tongue pressure). These relationships were evaluated with univariate analysis, and then multiple regression analysis was performed with age as the covariate for each male and female participant. RESULTS Vertical jump height was significantly associated with grip strength in both men and women. Moreover, in women, it was associated with masticatory performance, occlusal force, and occlusal contact area. CONCLUSIONS Vertical jump height was closely associated with oral function among healthy older women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Photodynamic therapy is a novel treatment that provides effective local control, but little is known about photodynamic therapy-induced changes on MR imaging. The aim of this study was to assess the utility of DWI and ADC in monitoring the response of malignant gliomas to photodynamic therapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS Time-dependent changes in DWI and ADC values after photodynamic therapy were analyzed in a group that received photodynamic therapy in comparison with a group that did not. RESULTS Twenty-four patients were enrolled (photodynamic therapy, n = 14; non-photodynamic therapy, n = 10). In all patients who received photodynamic therapy, linear high signals on DWI in the irradiated area were detected adjacent to the resection cavity and were 5-7 mm in depth from 1 day posttreatment and disappeared in about 30 days without any neurologic deterioration. The non-photodynamic therapy group did not show this change. The photodynamic therapy group had significantly lower ADC values from 1 day posttreatment (P < .001), which increased steadily and disappeared by 30 days. There was no decline or time-dependent change in ADC values in the non-photodynamic therapy group. CONCLUSIONS The acute response of malignant gliomas to photodynamic therapy was detected as linear high signals on DWI and as a decrease in ADC values. These findings were asymptomatic and transient. Although the photodynamic therapy-induced acute response on MR imaging disappeared after approximately 30 days, it may be helpful for confirming the photodynamic therapy-irradiated area.

Abstract
Mice with the C3H background show greater behavioral propensity for schizophrenia, including lower prepulse inhibition (PPI), than C57BL/6 (B6) mice. To characterize as-yet-unknown pathophysiologies of schizophrenia, we undertook proteomics analysis of the brain in these strains, and detected elevated levels of Mpst, a hydrogen sulfide (H2 S)/polysulfide-producing enzyme, and greater sulfide deposition in C3H than B6 mice. Mpst-deficient mice exhibited improved PPI with reduced storage sulfide levels, while Mpst-transgenic (Tg) mice showed deteriorated PPI, suggesting that "sulfide stress" may be linked to PPI impairment. Analysis of human samples demonstrated that the H2 S/polysulfides production system is upregulated in schizophrenia. Mechanistically, the Mpst-Tg brain revealed dampened energy metabolism, while maternal immune activation model mice showed upregulation of genes for H2 S/polysulfides production along with typical antioxidative genes, partly via epigenetic modifications. These results suggest that inflammatory/oxidative insults in early brain development result in upregulated H2 S/polysulfides production as an antioxidative response, which in turn cause deficits in bioenergetic processes. Collectively, this study presents a novel aspect of the neurodevelopmental theory for schizophrenia, unraveling a role of excess H2 S/polysulfides production.
