Abstract
This longitudinal study aimed to analyze the influence of physical activity (PA) on the relationship between body adiposity and cardiac autonomic modulation (CAM) in women survivors of breast cancer. We collected body adiposity through electrical bioimpedance considering body fat percentage (BFP), CAM through heart rate variability (considering RMSSD, SDNN, PNN50, LF (m2), HF (m2), SD1 indexes and SD1/SD2 ratio) and PA through a questionnaire in 64 participants (58.0 ± 9.6 years), recruited through the local association of support for breast cancer and by direct indications from city mastologists. After insertion of PA into the multivariate statistical model, significant attenuation was observed in the relationship between body adiposity and CAM for the indices: SDNN (β = -0.94; 95 percent CI: -1.93; 0.04; p = .060) and SD1/SD2 (β = -0.01;95 percent CI = -0.02; 0.001; p = .065). In conclusion, it was observed that PA was able to mitigate the relationships between BFP and CAM (considering SDNN index and SD1/SD2 ratio) in breast cancer survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Active break programs at the workplace are a promising initiative for increasing workers' physical activity (PA) levels, health, work-ability (WA), and social relationship. OBJECTIVE To determine the impact of an Active Breaks workplace program based on Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) aligned with Behavior Change Techniques (BCT) on PA levels, cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), WA, and social relationships among university workers. METHODS #UCLMuévete is a quasi-experimental, 12-week intervention designed according to the TREND and TIDieR-PHP checklists. Sixty-nine university workers were recruited and placed into 17 teams of 3 to 5 people. Participants were instructed to take a 20-min active break every working day (walking, cycling, and functional training). The following variables were measured before and after the 12-week intervention: (1) Amount of PA with accelerometers, (2) CRF through the 6 Min-Walking Test (m), (3) Body composition (fat mass (gr), muscle mass (gr), and bone mineral content (g/cm3) through densitometry), (4) Stress with the BodyGuard2 device, (5) WA through Work Ability Index (WAI), and (6) Social relationships through an ad-hoc questionnaire. Part-time workers, pregnant women, and workers with physical disability were excluded. RESULTS Significant improvements were observed in the amount of daily moderate-to-vigorous PA (Difference (Dif)., women +8.05 and men +12.31 minutes; p < 0.05; ES = 0.224; 0.379), CRF (Dif., women +52.98 and men +25.53 meters; p < 0.05; ES = 0.578; 0.209), and (Dif., women +2.16 and men +2.39; p < 0.05; ES = 0.150; 0.177). No significant changes were observed in body composition and stress. CONCLUSION 20 min/day of aerobic and strength active breaks, based on SCT aligned to BCTs, improves university workers' amount of PA, CRF, WAI, and social relationships.

Abstract
Increasing daily physical activity (PA) is a practical way to decrease the risk of cardiometabolic diseases, while the studies on exercise intensity remain limited. The purpose of the present study was to compare the effects of increasing light PA (LPA) or moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) for 12 weeks on cardiometabolic markers in Chinese adults with obesity. Fifty-three adults were randomly assigned to the 1) control group, 2) LPA group, and 3) MVPA group in free-living settings. The intervention effects on body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness, and cardiometabolic biomarkers were analysed using a generalized estimated equation model adjusted for baseline values and potential confounders. Compared with the control group, the MVPA group showed improvements in body composition, lipids, C-peptide, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), interleukin-8, leptin, and E-selectin. A favourable change in triglycerides and E-selectin were observed in the LPA group when compared to the control group. Lastly, improvements in waist circumference, C-reactive protein, and MCP-1 were observed in the MVPA group when compared to those in the LPA group. Although increasing both LPA and MVPA improved certain cardiometabolic biomarkers, the latter may have more benefits. These findings imply that MVPA may reduce cardiometabolic disease risk more effectively than LPA, especially in Chinese adults with obesity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Phase angle (PhA), proposed as an indicator of the number, integrity, and function of cells and evaluated in some clinical situations, decreases after bariatric surgery (BS). In contrast, higher values are found in physically active or exercising individuals. We therefore evaluated the influence of physical activity on PhA after BS. METHODS The PhA and body composition (obtained by bioelectrical impedance analysis), physical activity level (obtained by International Physical Activity Questionnaire), and metabolic equivalents (METs) were evaluated in adult women submitted to BS. The PhA and body composition were evaluated at three time points: before and 6 and 12 months after surgery. Physical activity level and METs were measured at the two postoperative time points. RESULTS A reduction in PhA was observed 6 (p < 0.01) and 12 months (p < 0.01) after BS, with no significant difference between time points. A moderate or high physical activity level was found in 81% of the volunteers after 6 months and in 65% after 12 months. METs were reduced after 12 months compared to 6 months. A positive correlation (p < 0.05) was observed between PhA and body cell mass after surgery. There was a significant positive correlation (p < 0.01) between PhA and METs after 12 months. CONCLUSIONS Physical activity may attenuate the PhA reduction that occurs after BS, with this parameter reflecting the engagement of these patients in this type of activity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Children with intestinal failure (IF) receiving long-term parenteral nutrition (PN) have altered body composition (BC), but data on BC changes from start of PN onwards are lacking. OBJECTIVES We aimed to assess growth and BC in infants after neonatal intestinal surgery necessitating PN and at risk of IF, and to explore associations with clinical parameters. METHODS A prospective cohort study in infants after intestinal surgery. IF was defined as PN dependency for >60 d. SD scores (SDS) for anthropometry were calculated until 6-mo corrected age. In a subgroup, fat mass (FM) and fat-free mass (FFM) were measured with air-displacement plethysmography at 2- and 6-mo corrected age. SDS for length-adjusted FM index and FFM index were calculated. Associations between cumulative amount of PN and BC parameters were analyzed with linear mixed-effect models. RESULTS Ninety-five neonates were included (54% male, 35% born <32 wk) and 39 infants (41%) had IF. Studied infants had compromised anthropometric parameters during follow-up. At 6-mo corrected age, they remained smaller (median weight-for-age SDS -0.9 [IQR -1.5, 0.1], P < 0.001) than the normal population. In 57 infants, 93 BC measurements were performed. FM index SDS was lower than in healthy infants at 2- and 6-mo corrected age (-0.9 [-1.6, -0.3], P < 0.001 and -0.7 [-1.3, 0.1], P = 0.001, respectively), but FFM index SDS did not differ. A higher cumulative amount of PN predicted a higher FM index in female infants but lower FM index in male infants. CONCLUSIONS In this cohort of infants receiving PN after intestinal surgery, compromised anthropometrics, decreased FM, and adequate FFM were observed during the first 6 mo. Male and female infants seemed to respond differently to PN when it comes to FM index. Continuing growth monitoring after the age of 6 mo is strongly recommended, and further research should explore the benefit of incorporating ongoing BC monitoring during follow-up.

Abstract
Obesity, particularly in childhood and adolescence, is one of the serious public health problems worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, 10% of young people aged 5-17 years are obese, which is rapidly increasing around the world. Furthermore, approximately 80% of adolescents who become obese develop bodyweight-related health problems in adulthood. Eating habits and lifestyles play important roles in forming body composition and metabolic status. Changes in body composition in adolescence, the period in which secondary sex characteristics begin to develop, can alter hormonal and metabolic status, can consequently affect health status and the risk of developing chronic diseases in adulthood, and moreover may have an impact on probable body composition and metabolic status in the next generation. Here, we reviewed cross-sectional and interventional studies to analyze the role of dietary patterns focusing on macronutrient intake in growth, body composition, and metabolic changes in adolescents. These findings provide insights into optimal dietary guidelines for healthy growth with accretion of adequate body composition in adolescence, and provide an effective strategy for preventing and managing the risk of obesity-related metabolic disease in adulthood, with the additional benefit of providing potential benefits for the next generation's health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The inverse association between physical activity and body fat percentage (%) varies among different populations. We aim to examine whether the significant association between them was uniform across the subpopulations after taking into account body mass index (BMI). METHODS Our study relied on data from China Health and Nutrition Surveys in 2015, including 5763 participants aged 40-64 years from 15 regions. Physical activity was calculated as metabolic equivalent task hours per day (MET·h/d). Body fat% was measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis. Body mass index < 24 kg/m2 was defined as normal weight and BMI ≥ 24 kg/m2 was overweight/obese. The effects of physical activity on body fat% were estimated using the Kruskal-Wallis test among sex, age, BMI groups, education, income, region and urbanization. Quantile regression analyses were utilized to describe the relationship between physical activity and body fat% distribution. RESULTS Older adults, overweight/obese, higher education, higher income, residents of central China and those living in areas of higher urbanization had the lower physical activity. Participants who engaged in the highest level of physical activity had 2.0 and 1.5% lower body fat% than the lowest level of physical activity group (23.4, 34.8%) for men and women, respectively. There were 10.4 and 8.8% of normal weight males and females called normal weight obese. Overall, 1 h extra 4.5 MET•h/d was significantly associated with 0.079 and 0.110% less total body fat% at the 75th and 90th percentiles in normal weight males, with 0.071% less at the 25th percentiles in overweight/obese males, with 0.046-0.098% less at the 25th to 90th percentiles in normal weight females, and with 0.035-0.037% less from the 50th to 90th percentiles in overweight/obese females. The inverse association between physical activity and total body fat% was stronger in normal weight obese participants than other subgroups. CONCLUSIONS In middle-aged Chinese adults, the inverse association between physical activity and body fat% was only in particular subpopulations rather than the entire population. We should pay much attention to normal weight obese and give a suitable physical activity guideline taking into account people with different body fat%.

Abstract
Research from recent years indicates a problem of excessive body weight among soldiers, who, due to the kind of work carried out, should possess good health and fitness levels. The aim of the study was to determine the association between diet and physical activity and the nutritional status of soldiers of the Polish Air Cavalry Units. One hundred and twenty male soldiers (aged 28 ± 5 years) completed a questionnaire (food frequency questionnaire, long-form International Physical Activity Questionnaire). Body composition was determined by bioelectrical impedance analysis, and bone calcification of the forearm was assessed by the DXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) densitometric method. This study confirmed the association between both the diet and physical activity and body mass index (BMI), fat mass index (FMI), and bone mineral density (BMD) expressed as T-score. Significant negative correlations were found between BMI and the frequency of consumption of cereal products, meat products and fish, and nonalcoholic beverages, between FMI and cereal products, and between BMD T-score and meat products and fish, fat, nuts, and grains, sweets and snacks, and nonalcoholic beverages. Physical activity expressed as metabolic equivalent (MET-minutes/week) negatively correlated with FMI (but not BMI) and positively correlated with the BMD T-score. This study confirmed numerous irregularities in eating behavior and in nutritional status indices; therefore, there is a need for nutritional education and further monitoring of both dietary behaviors and nutritional status of soldiers.

Home-Based Exergaming on Preschoolers' Energy Expenditure, Cardiovascular Fitness, Body Mass Index and Cognitive Flexibility: A Randomized Controlled Trial. J Clin Med 2019; 8:jcm8101745. Abstract
PURPOSE The effects of exergaming-based physical activity (PA) interventions on preschoolers' health outcomes and cognition remain largely unexplored. Therefore, we conducted a randomized controlled trial to discern the effectiveness of a home-based educational exergaming intervention on preschoolers' energy expenditure, fitness, body mass index, and cognition. METHODS Participants were 32 preschoolers (16 girls; 59.4% Asian; Mage = 4.72, SD = ±0.73) recruited from the Twin Cities area in Minnesota. During baseline testing, we measured preschooler's daily energy expenditure (EE), cardiovascular fitness, body mass index, and cognitive flexibility using validated instruments. Participants were then randomly assigned to one of two conditions: (1) the exergaming intervention condition; or (2) control condition. The intervention program requested children participate in home-based educational exergaming using the LeapTV gaming console for at least 30 min/session 5 times/week. The control condition asked children to maintain regular PA patterns without any exergaming gameplay. Each condition lasted 12 weeks. We conducted identical outcome assessments for all children at baseline and post-intervention. RESULTS Analysis of covariance with repeated measures yielded significant time x group interaction effects for cognitive flexibility, Wilks' Lambda = 0.81, F(1, 29) = 6.98, p = 0.01, η2 = 0.19, suggesting children in the exergaming group demonstrated significantly greater increases in cognitive flexibility as compared to those in the control group over time. There were no significant differences for time x group changes between the two groups for EE, Wilks' Lambda = 0.92, F(1, 29) = 2.29, p = 0.14, η2 = 0.08; cardiovascular fitness, Wilks' Lambda = 0.96, F(1, 29) = 1.07, p = 0.31, η2 = 0.04; and BMI, Wilks' Lambda = 0.99, F(1, 29) = 0.05, p = 0.82, η2 = 0.01. However, our data did suggest a marginal effect of time for EE, Wilks' Lambda = 0.89, F(1, 29) = 3.26, p = 0.08, η2 = 0.08, indicating that children's daily EE increased from baseline to post-intervention. CONCLUSIONS Home-based educational exergaming may positively impact cognitive flexibility in preschoolers. Studies with larger sample sizes in multiple geographic locations are needed, with our study suggesting a longer intervention period might also be warranted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship of total physical activity (PA) and its different domains with sex, weight, body mass index, body composition, and resting energy expenditure (REE) among Brazilian adults. The secondary aim was to assess if the Baecke Habitual Physical Activity Questionnaire (BHPAQ) could be used to screen fat mass excess. METHODS Three hundred and sixty-six volunteers participated. PA was assessed with the BHPAQ, body composition with multifrequency bioelectrical impedance spectroscopy, and REE with indirect calorimetry. RESULTS Total PA and sports/exercise PA were lower in women than men. The participants most active for sports/exercise and leisure-time/locomotion PA domains had higher fat free mass and phase angle, and lower fat mass and weight than the least active subjects. The occupational PA domain was associated with higher fat mass and weight. REE was associated only with the exercise/sports PA domain. The BHPAQ could discriminate subjects with excess body fat with a 9.375 cutoff point for total PA. CONCLUSION Exercise/sports and leisure-time/locomotion are PA domains associated with a better body composition. A gender gap still exists in PA, as women are less active than men. The BHPAQ could screen subjects with excess fat mass.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Several studies have investigated the effects of dietary carbohydrate intake on body composition. However, the results are controversial and few studies have been conducted on an Asian population. The aim of this study was to investigate whether dietary carbohydrate intake is associated with body composition in Korean adults. METHODS The present study used data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, a cross-sectional survey of Korean civilians, conducted from 2008 to 2011. The study analyzed 9594 participants. Carbohydrate intake was defined as the proportion of energy consumed from carbohydrate. Waist circumference, body mass index, and lean and fat mass using a whole-body dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry scanner were measured as body composition parameters. RESULTS After adjusting for age, household income, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, history of diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and intake of energy and fiber per day, the proportion of carbohydrate intake was positively correlated with total limb lean mass in men (β = 0.141, P = 0.046), and in women, the proportion of carbohydrate intake was positively associated with appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (β = 0804, P = 0.003) but negatively associated with trunk fat percentage (β = -0.075, P = 0.026). Total limb lean mass and appendicular skeletal muscle mass index in women showed an increasing trend as the proportion of carbohydrate intake increased. CONCLUSIONS No positive association was found between the proportion of carbohydrate intake and any measure of obesity or body fat mass in either men or women. Further studies are needed to evaluate the effects of quantity and quality of carbohydrate intake on body composition.

Introduction
Optimal diet together with good physical fitness maintains readiness and military performance during longer deployments. The purpose of this study was to describe changes in dietary macronutrient and energy intake, total physical activity and body composition during a 6-month deployment in South Lebanon. Furthermore, associations of diet macronutrient intake and physical activity on body composition were also studied.
Materials and Methods
Forty male soldiers kept a 3-day food diary and their body composition was measured via bioimpedance and ultrasonography. Total physical activity was evaluated by accelerometers in a subgroup of participants. Measurements were conducted in the PRE-, MID-, and POST-deployment.
Results
Mean carbohydrate intakes were 39.5–42.6 E%, protein intakes 18.7–22.3 E%, and fat intakes 34.9–35.7 E%. Daily energy intake remained stable (10.1–10.3 MJ/D). Total physical activity was decreased during deployment (e.g., step count from 9,835 ± 2,743 to 8,388 ± 2,875 steps/day, p = 0.007). Skeletal muscle mass and subcutaneous fat increased by 1.3% (p = 0.019) and 1.9% (p = 0.006), respectively. Energy and fat intake associated positively with body mass and skeletal muscle mass (r = 0.31–0.48, p < 0.05–0.001).
Conclusions
Carbohydrate intakes and physical activity were low, compared with the general recommendations. Protein intakes were relatively high. Skeletal muscle mass and subcutaneous fat increased. Suboptimal diet together with low level of physical activity may have a negative impact on body composition, physical performance, and cardiometabolic health. Consequently, soldiers should be encouraged to consume more fiber-rich carbohydrates and less saturated fatty acids as well as maintain a high level of physical fitness to sustain military readiness during long-term deployments.
