Abstract
In the domain of photopolymerization-based additive manufacturing (3D vat printing), ceramic photopolymer resins represent a multifaceted composite, predominantly comprising oligomers, ceramic fillers, and photoinitiators. However, the synergy between the ceramic fillers and polymer matrix, along with the stabilization and homogenization of the composite, is facilitated by specific additives, notably surface-active agents, dispersants, and adhesion promoters. Although these additives constitute a minor fraction in terms of volume, their influence on the final properties of the material is substantial. Consequently, their meticulous selection and integration are crucial, subtly guiding the performance and characteristics of the resultant ceramic matrix composites toward enhancement. This review delves into the array of dispersants and coupling agents utilized in the additive manufacturing of ceramic components. It elucidates the interaction mechanisms between these additives and ceramic fillers and examines how these interactions affect the additive manufacturing process. Furthermore, this review investigates the impact of various additives on the rheological behavior of ceramic slurries and their subsequent effects on the post-manufacturing stages, such as debinding and sintering. It also addresses the challenges and prospects in the optimization of dispersants and coupling agents for advanced ceramic additive manufacturing applications.

Abstract
Cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) are derived from biomass and have significant potential as fossil-based plastic alternatives used in disposable electronics. Controlling the nanostructure of fibrils is the key to obtaining strong mechanical properties and high optical transparency. Vacuum filtration is usually used to prepare the CNFs film in the literature; however, such a process cannot control the structure of the CNFs film, which limits the transparency and mechanical strength of the film. Here, direct ink writing (DIW), a pressure-controlled extrusion process, is proposed to fabricate the CNFs film, which can significantly harness the alignment of fibrils by exerting shear stress force on the filaments. The printed films by DIW have a compact structure, and the degree of fibril alignment quantified by the small angle X-ray diffraction (SAXS) increases by 24 % compared to the vacuum filtration process. Such a process favors the establishment of the chemical bond (or interaction) between molecules, therefore leading to considerably high tensile strength (245 ± 8 MPa), elongation at break (2.2 ± 0.5 %), and good transparency. Thus, proposed DIW provides a new strategy for fabricating aligned CNFs films in a controlled manner with tunable macroscale properties. Moreover, this work provides theoretical guidance for employing CNFs as structural and reinforcing materials to design disposable electronics.

Abstract
Nanoscience-often summarized as "the future is tiny"-highlights the work of researchers advancing nanotechnology through incremental innovations. The design and innovation of new nanomaterials are vital for the development of next-generation three-dimensional (3D) printed structures characterized by low cost, high speed, and versatile capabilities, delivering exceptional performance in advanced applications. The integration of nanofillers into polymeric-based inks for 3D printing heralds a new era in additive manufacturing, allowing for the creation of custom-designed 3D objects with enhanced multifunctionality. To optimize the use of nanomaterials in 3D printing, effective disaggregation techniques and strong interfacial adhesion between nanofillers and polymer matrices are essential. This review provides an overview of the application of various types of nanomaterials used in 3D printing, focusing on their functionalization principles, dispersion strategies, and colloidal stability, as well as the methodologies for aligning nanofillers within the 3D printing framework. It discusses dispersive methods, synergistic dispersion, and in-situ growth, which have yielded smart 3D-printed structures with unique functionality for specific applications. This review also focuses on nanomaterial alignment in 3D printing, detailing methods that enhance selective deposition and orientation of nanofillers within established and customized printing techniques. By emphasizing alignment strategies, we explore their impact on the performance of 3D-printed composites and highlight potential applications that benefit from ordered nanoparticles. Through these continuing efforts, this review shows that the design and development of the new class of nanomaterials are crucial to developing the next generation of smart 3D printed architectures with versatile abilities for advanced structures with exceptional performance.

Abstract
Critical-sized bone defects represent a significant clinical challenge due to their inability to undergo spontaneous regeneration, necessitating graft interventions for effective treatment. The development of tissue-engineered scaffolds and regenerative medicine has made bone tissue engineering a highly viable treatment for bone defects. The physical and biological properties of nanocomposite biomaterials, which have optimized structures and the ability to simulate the regenerative microenvironment of bone, are promising for application in the field of tissue engineering. These biomaterials offer distinct advantages over traditional materials by facilitating cellular adhesion and proliferation, maintaining excellent osteoconductivity and biocompatibility, enabling precise control of degradation rates, and enhancing mechanical properties. Importantly, they can simulate the natural structure of bone tissue, including the specific microenvironment, which is crucial for promoting the repair and regeneration of bone defects. This manuscript provides a comprehensive review of the recent research developments and applications of structure-optimized and microenvironment-inspired nanocomposite biomaterials in bone tissue engineering. This review focuses on the properties and advantages these materials offer for bone repair and tissue regeneration, summarizing the latest progress in the application of nanocomposite biomaterials for bone tissue engineering and highlighting the challenges and future perspectives in the field. Through this analysis, the paper aims to underscore the promising potential of nanocomposite biomaterials in bone tissue engineering, contributing to the informed design and strategic planning of next-generation biomaterials for regenerative medicine.

Abstract
Successful employment of 3D printing for delivery of therapeutic biomolecules requires protection of their bioactivity on exposure to potentially inactivating conditions. Although intermediary encapsulation of the biomolecules in polymeric particulate delivery vehicles is a promising strategy for this objective, the inclusion of such particles in 3D printing formulations may critically impact the accuracy or precision of 3D printed scaffolds relative to their intended designed architectures, as well as the degradation behavior of both the scaffolds and the included particles. The present work aimed to elucidate the effect of poly(d,l-lactic-co-glycolic acid) particle size and loading concentration on material accuracy, machine precision, and degradation of 3D printed poly(ɛ-caprolactone)-based scaffolds. Using a main effects analysis, the sizes and loading concentrations of particle delivery vehicles investigated were found to have neither a beneficial nor disadvantageous influence on the metrics of printing quality such as material accuracy and machine precision. Meanwhile, particle loading concentration was determined to influence degradation rate, whereas printing temperature affected the trends in composite weight-average molecular weight. Neither of the two particle-related parameters (concentration nor diameter) was found to exhibit a significant effect on intra-fiber nor inter-fiber porosity. These findings evidence the capacity for controlled loading of particulate delivery vehicles in 3D printed scaffolds while preserving construct accuracy and precision, and with predictable dictation of composite degradation behavior for potential controlled release of encapsulated biomolecules.

Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting is a fast prototyping fabrication approach that allows the development of new implants for tissue restoration. Although various materials have been utilized for this process, they lack mechanical, electrical, chemical, and biological properties. To overcome those limitations, graphene-based materials demonstrate unique mechanical and electrical properties, morphology, and impermeability, making them excellent candidates for 3D bioprinting. This review summarizes the latest developments in graphene-based materials in 3D printing and their application in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Over the years, different 3D printing approaches have utilized graphene-based materials, such as graphene, graphene oxide (GO), reduced GO (rGO), and functional GO (fGO). This process involves controlling multiple factors, such as graphene dispersion, viscosity, and post-curing, which impact the properties of the 3D-printed graphene-based constructs. To this end, those materials combined with 3D printing approaches have demonstrated prominent regeneration potential for bone, neural, cardiac, and skin tissues. Overall, graphene in 3D bioprinting may pave the way for new regenerative strategies with translational implications in orthopedics, neurology, and cardiovascular areas.

Abstract
This study explores the potential of novel boron nitride (BN) microplatelet composites with combined thermal conduction and electrical insulation properties. These composites are manufactured through Fusion Deposition Modeling (FDM), and their application for thermal management in electronic devices is demonstrated. The primary focus of this work is, therefore, the investigation of the thermoplastic composite properties to show the 3D printing of lightweight polymeric heat sinks with remarkable thermal performance. By comparing various microfillers, including BN and MgO particles, their effects on material properties and alignment within the polymer matrix during filament fabrication and FDM processing are analyzed. The characterization includes the evaluation of morphology, thermal conductivity, and mechanical and electrical properties. Particularly, a composite with 32 wt% of BN microplatelets shows an in-plane thermal conductivity of 1.97 W m-1 K-1, offering electrical insulation and excellent printability. To assess practical applications, lightweight pin fin heat sinks using these composites are designed and 3D printed. Their thermal performance is evaluated via thermography under different heating conditions. The findings are very promising for an efficient and cost-effective fabrication of thermal devices, which can be obtained through extrusion-based Additive Manufacturing (AM), such as FDM, and exploited as enhanced thermal management solutions in electronic devices.

Abstract
Modern additive manufacturing enables the simultaneous processing of different materials during the printing process. While multimaterial 3D printing allows greater freedom in part design, the prediction of the mix-material properties becomes challenging. One type of multimaterials are matrix-inclusion composites, where one material contains inclusions of another material. Aim of this study was to develop a method to predict the uniaxial Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of material jetted matrix-inclusion composites by a combination of simulations and experimental data.Fifty samples from commercially available materials in their pure and matrix-inclusion mixed forms, with cubic inclusions, have been fabricated using material jetting and mechanically characterized by uniaxial tensile tests. Multiple simulation approaches have been assessed and compared to the measurement results in order to find and validate a method to predict the multimaterials' properties. Optical coherence tomography and microscopy was used to characterize the size and structure of the multimaterials, compared to the design.The materials exhibited Young's moduli in the range of 1.4 GPa to 2.5 GPa. The multimaterial mixtures were never as stiff as the weighted volume average of the primary materials (up to [Formula: see text] softer for 45% RGD8530-DM inclusions in VeroClear matrix). Experimental data could be predicted by finite element simulations by considering a non-ideal contact stiffness between matrix and inclusion ([Formula: see text] for RGD8530-DM, [Formula: see text] for RGD8430-DM), and geometries of the printed inclusions that deviated from the design (rounded edge radii of [Formula: see text]m). Not considering this would lead to a difference of the estimation result of up to [Formula: see text]MPa (44%), simulating an inclusion volume fraction of 45% RGD8530-DM.Prediction of matrix-inclusion composites fabricated by multimaterial jetting printing, is possible, however, requires a priori knowledge or additional measurements to characterize non-ideal contact stiffness between the components and effective printed geometries, precluding therefore a simple multimaterial modelling.

Abstract
Nanoparticles form long-range micropatterns via self-assembly or directed self-assembly with superior mechanical, electrical, optical, magnetic, chemical, and other functional properties for broad applications, such as structural supports, thermal exchangers, optoelectronics, microelectronics, and robotics. The precisely defined particle assembly at the nanoscale with simultaneously scalable patterning at the microscale is indispensable for enabling functionality and improving the performance of devices. This article provides a comprehensive review of nanoparticle assembly formed primarily via the balance of forces at the nanoscale (e.g., van der Waals, colloidal, capillary, convection, and chemical forces) and nanoparticle-template interactions (e.g., physical confinement, chemical functionalization, additive layer-upon-layer). The review commences with a general overview of nanoparticle self-assembly, with the state-of-the-art literature review and motivation. It subsequently reviews the recent progress in nanoparticle assembly without the presence of surface templates. Manufacturing techniques for surface template fabrication and their influence on nanoparticle assembly efficiency and effectiveness are then explored. Abstract
Organoid technology has demonstrated unique advantages in multidisciplinary fields such as disease research, tumor drug sensitivity, clinical immunity, drug toxicology, and regenerative medicine. It will become the most promising research tool in translational research. However, the long preparation time of organoids and the lack of high-quality cryopreservation methods limit the further application of organoids. Although the high-quality cryopreservation of small-volume biological samples such as cells and embryos has been successfully achieved, the existing cryopreservation methods for organoids still face many bottlenecks. In recent years, with the development of materials science, cryobiology, and interdisciplinary research, many new materials and methods have been applied to cryopreservation. Several new cryopreservation methods have emerged, such as cryoprotectants (CPAs) of natural origin, ice-controlled biomaterials, and rapid rewarming methods. The introduction of these technologies has expanded the research scope of cryopreservation of organoids, provided new approaches and methods for cryopreservation of organoids, and is expected to break through the current technical bottleneck of cryopreservation of organoids. This paper reviews the progress of cryopreservation of organoids in recent years from three aspects: damage factors of cryopreservation of organoids, new protective agents and loading methods, and new technologies of cryopreservation and rewarming.

Abstract
The conventional techniques used to fabricate terahertz metamaterials, such as photolithography and etching, face hindrances in the form of high costs, lengthy processing cycles, and environmental pollution. In contrast, electrohydrodynamic (EHD) drop-on-demand (DOD) printing technology holds promise as an additive manufacturing method capable of producing micrometer- and nanometer-scale patterns rapidly and cost-effectively. However, achieving stable large-area printing proves challenging due to issues related to charge accumulation in insulated substrates and inconsistent meniscus vibration. In this paper, a smooth bipolar waveform driving method is proposed aimed at solving the problems of charge accumulation on insulated substrates and poor print consistency. The method involves utilizing driving waveforms with opposite polarities for neighboring droplets, allowing the charges carried by the printed droplets to neutralize each other. Moreover, extending the duration of the high voltage rise and fall times enhances the consistency of meniscus motion, thereby improving the stability of printing. Through optimization of the printing parameters, droplets with a diameter of 1.37 μm and straight lines with a width of 3 μm were printed. Furthermore, this approach was employed to print terahertz metamaterial surface devices, and the performance of the metamaterial is in good agreement with the simulation results. These findings demonstrate that the method greatly improves the stability of EHD DOD printing, thereby advancing the application of the technology in additive processing at the micro- and nanoscale.

Abstract
Lung cancer is the second most prevalent cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Surgery, chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and radiotherapy are currently available as treatment methods. However, drug resistance is a significant factor in the failure of lung cancer treatments. Novel therapeutics have been exploited to address complicated resistance mechanisms of lung cancer and the advancement of nanomedicine is extremely promising in terms of overcoming drug resistance. Nanomedicine equipped with multifunctional and tunable physiochemical properties in alignment with tumor genetic profiles can achieve precise, safe, and effective treatment while minimizing or eradicating drug resistance in cancer. Here, this work reviews the discovered resistance mechanisms for lung cancer chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and radiotherapy, and outlines novel strategies for the development of nanomedicine against drug resistance. This work focuses on engineering design, customized delivery, current challenges, and clinical translation of nanomedicine in the application of resistant lung cancer.

Abstract
The use of biobased materials in additive manufacturing is a promising long-term strategy for advancing the polymer industry toward a circular economy and reducing the environmental impact. In commercial 3D printing formulations, there is still a scarcity of efficient biobased polymer resins. This research proposes vegetable oils as biobased components to formulate the stereolithography (SLA) resin. Application of nanocellulose filler, prepared from agricultural waste, remarkably improves the printed material's performance properties. The strong bonding of nanofibrillated celluloses' (NFCs') matrix helps develop a strong interface and produce a polymer nanocomposite with enhanced thermal properties and dynamical mechanical characteristics. The ultra-low NFC content of 0.1-1.0 wt% (0.07-0.71 vol%) was examined in printed samples, with the lowest concentration yielding some of the most promising results. The developed SLA resins showed good printability, and the printing accuracy was not decreased by adding NFC. At the same time, an increase in the resin viscosity with higher filler loading was observed. Resins maintained high transparency in the 500-700 nm spectral region. The glass transition temperature for the 0.71 vol% composition increased by 28°C when compared to the nonreinforced composition. The nanocomposite's stiffness has increased fivefold for the 0.71 vol% composition. The thermal stability of printed compositions was retained after cellulose incorporation, and thermal conductivity was increased by 11%. Strong interfacial interactions were observed between the cellulose and the polymer in the form of hydrogen bonding between hydroxyl and ester groups, which were confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. This research demonstrates a great potential to use acrylated vegetable oils and nanocellulose fillers as a feedstock to produce high-performance resins for sustainable SLA 3D printing.

Abstract
In the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, various hydrogels derived from the extracellular matrix have been utilized for creating engineered tissues and implantable scaffolds. While these hydrogels hold immense promise in the healthcare landscape, conventional bioinks based on ECM hydrogels face several challenges, particularly in terms of lacking the necessary mechanical properties required for 3D bioprinting process. To address these limitations, researchers are actively exploring novel nanomaterial-reinforced ECM hydrogels for both mechanical and functional aspects. In this review, we focused on discussing recent advancements in the fabrication of engineered tissues and monitoring systems using nanobioinks and nanomaterials via 3D bioprinting technology. We highlighted the synergistic benefits of combining numerous nanomaterials into ECM hydrogels and imposing geometrical effects by 3D bioprinting technology. Furthermore, we also elaborated on critical issues remaining at the moment, such as the inhomogeneous dispersion of nanomaterials and consequent technical and practical issues, in the fabrication of complex 3D structures with nanobioinks and nanomaterials. Finally, we elaborated on plausible outlooks for facilitating the use of nanomaterials in biofabrication and advancing the function of engineered tissues.

Abstract
This study implemented the application of microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) as a characterization technique for the study and investigation of the microstructure of 3D scaffold structures produced via three-dimensional bioprinting (3DBP). The study focused on the preparation, characterization, and cytotoxicity analysis of gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) incorporated into 3DBP hydrogels for micro-CT evaluation. The Au-NPs were characterized by using various techniques, including UV-vis spectrometry, dynamic light scattering (DLS), zeta potential measurement, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The characterization results confirmed the successful coating of the Au-NPs with 2 kDa methoxy-PEG and revealed their spherical shape with a mean core diameter of 66 nm. Cytotoxicity analysis using live-dead fluorescent microscopy indicated that all tested Au-NP solutions were nontoxic to AC16 cardiomyocytes in both 2D and 3D culture conditions. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed distinguishable differences in image contrast and intensity between samples with and without Au-NPs, with high concentrations of Au-NPs displaying nanoparticle aggregates. Micro-CT imaging demonstrated that scaffolds containing Au-NPs depicted enhanced imaging resolution and quality, allowing for visualization of the microstructure. The 3D reconstruction of scaffold structures from micro-CT imaging using Dragonfly software further supported the improved visualization. Mechanical analysis revealed that the addition of Au-NPs enhanced the mechanical properties of acellular scaffolds, including their elastic moduli and complex viscosity, but the presence of cells led to biodegradation and reduced mechanical strength. These findings highlight the successful preparation and characterization of Au-NPs, their nontoxic nature in both 2D and 3D culture conditions, their influence on imaging quality, and the impact on the mechanical properties of 3D-printed hydrogels. These results contribute to the development of functional and biocompatible materials for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications.

Abstract
Efficient heat dissipation is vital for advancing device integration and high-frequency performance. Three-dimensional printing, famous for its convenience and structural controllability, facilitates complex parts with high thermal conductivity. Despite this, few studies have considered the influence of shear rate on the thermal conductivity of printed parts. Herein, polydimethylsiloxane/boron nitride (PDMS/BN) composites were prepared and printed by direct ink writing (DIW). In order to ensure the smooth extrusion of the printing process and the structural stability of the part, a system with 40 wt% BN was selected according to the rheological properties. In addition, the effect of printing speed on the morphology of BN particles during 3D printing was studied by XRD, SEM observation, as well as ANSYS Polyflow simulation. The results demonstrated that increasing the printing speed from 10 mm/s to 120 mm/s altered the orientation angle of BN particles from 78.3° to 35.7°, promoting their alignment along the printing direction due to the high shear rate experienced. The resulting printed parts accordingly exhibited an impressive thermal conductivity of 0.849 W∙m-1∙K-1, higher than the 0.454 W∙m-1∙K-1 of the control sample. This study provides valuable insights and an important reference for future developments in the fabrication of thermal management devices with customizable thermal conductivity.

Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the proliferation of fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS), pannus development, cartilage, and bone degradation, and, eventually, loss of joint function. Fibroblast activating protein (FAP) is a particular product of activated FLS and is highly prevalent in RA-derived fibroblast-like synoviocytes (RA-FLS). In this study, zinc ferrite nanoparticles (ZF-NPs) were engineered to target FAP+ (FAP positive) FLS. ZF-NPswere discovered to better target FAP+ FLS due to the surface alteration of FAP peptide and to enhance RA-FLS apoptosis by activating the endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) system via the PERK-ATF4-CHOP, IRE1-XBP1 pathway, and mitochondrial damage of RA-FLS. Treatment with ZF-NPs under the influence of an alternating magnetic field (AMF) can significantly amplify ERS and mitochondrial damage via the magnetocaloric effect. It was also observed in adjuvant-induced arthritis (AIA) mice that FAP-targeted ZF-NPs (FAP-ZF-NPs) could significantly suppress synovitis in vivo, inhibit synovial tissue angiogenesis, protect articular cartilage, and reduce M1 macrophage infiltration in synovium in AIA mice. Furthermore, treatment of AIA mice with FAP-ZF-NPs was found to be more promising in the presence of an AMF. These findings demonstrate the potential utility of FAP-ZF-NPs in the treatment of RA.

Abstract
3D bioprinting is a technology that enables the precise and controlled deposition of cells and an artificial extracellular matrix (ECM) to create functional tissue constructs. However, current 3D bioprinting methods still struggle to obtain mechanically stable and unique cell-morphological structures, such as fully aligned cells. In this study, we propose a new 3D bioprinting approach that utilizes a high concentration of bioink without cells to support mechanical properties and drag flow to fully align cells in a thin bath filled with cell-laden bioink, resulting in a hybrid cell-laden construct with a mechanical stable and fully aligned cell structure. To demonstrate the feasibility of this approach, we used it to fabricate a cell-laden construct using human adipose stem cells (hASCs) for tendon tissue engineering. To achieve appropriate processing conditions, various factors such as the bioink concentration, nozzle moving speed, and volume flow rate were considered. To enhance the biocompatibility of the cell-laden construct, we used porcine decellularized tendon ECM.In vitrocellular responses, including tenogenic differentiation of the fabricated hybrid cell structures with aligned or randomly distributed cells, were evaluated using hASCs. In addition, the mechanical properties of the hybrid cell-laden construct could be adjusted by controlling the concentration of the mechanically reinforcing strut using methacrylated tendon-decellularized extracellular matrix. Based on these results, the hybrid cell-laden structure has the potential to be a highly effective platform for the alignment of musculoskeletal tissues.

Abstract
Nanocolloidal gels (NCGs) are an emerging class of soft matter, in which nanoparticles act as building blocks of the colloidal network. Chemical or physical crosslinking enables NCG synthesis and assembly from a broad range of nanoparticles, polymers, and low-molecular weight molecules. The synergistic properties of NCGs are governed by nanoparticle composition, dimensions and shape, the mechanism of nanoparticle bonding, and the NCG architecture, as well as the nature of molecular crosslinkers. Nanocolloidal gels find applications in soft robotics, bioengineering, optically active coatings and sensors, optoelectronic devices, and absorbents. This review summarizes currently scattered aspects of NCG formation, properties, characterization, and applications. We describe the diversity of NCG building blocks, discuss the mechanisms of NCG formation, review characterization techniques, outline NCG fabrication and processing methods, and highlight most common NCG applications. The review is concluded with the discussion of perspectives in the design and development of NCGs.

Abstract
As fused filament fabrication (FFF) continues to gain popularity, many studies are turning to nanomaterials or optimization of printing parameters to improve the materials' properties; however, many overlook how materials formulation and additive manufacturing (AM) processes cooperatively engineer the evolution of properties across length scales. Evaluating the in-process evolution of the nanocomposite using AM will provide a fundamental understanding of the material's microstructure, which can be tailored to create unique characteristics in functionality and performance. In this study, the crystallinity behavior of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) was studied in the presence of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as a nucleation aid for improved crystallization during FFF processing. Using various characterization techniques and molecular dynamics simulations, it was discovered that the crystallization behavior of extruded filaments is very different from that of 3D printed roads. Additionally, the printed material exhibited cold crystallization, and the CNT addition increased the crystallization of printed roads, which were amorphous without CNT addition. Tensile strength and modulus were increased by as much as 42 and 51%, respectively, due to higher crystallinity during printing. Detailed knowledge on the morphology of PEEK-CNT used in FFF allows gaining a fundamental understanding of the morphological evolution occurring during the AM process that in turn enables formulating materials for the AM process to achieve tailored mechanical and functional properties, such as crystallinity or conductivity.

Abstract
Cryopreservation is currently a key step in translational medicine that could provide new ideas for clinical applications in reproductive medicine, regenerative medicine, and cell therapy. With the advantages of a low concentration of cryoprotectant, fast cooling rate, and easy operation, droplet-based printing for vitrification has received wide attention in the field of cryopreservation. This review summarizes the droplet generation, vitrification, and warming method. Droplet generation techniques such as inkjet printing, microvalve printing, and acoustic printing have been applied in the field of cryopreservation. Droplet vitrification includes direct contact with liquid nitrogen vitrification and droplet solid surface vitrification. The limitations of droplet vitrification (liquid nitrogen contamination, droplet evaporation, gas film inhibition of heat transfer, frosting) and solutions are discussed. Furthermore, a comparison of the external physical field warming method with the conventional water bath method revealed that better applications can be achieved in automated rapid warming of microdroplets. The combination of droplet vitrification technology and external physical field warming technology is expected to enable high-throughput and automated cryopreservation, which has a promising future in biomedicine and regenerative medicine.

Abstract
In this paper, we report a simple modification of a commercially available printer with fused deposition modeling (FDM) technology for the implementation of extrusion printing of hydrogels. The main difference between an FDM printer and a gel-extrusion printer is their material propulsion system, which has to deal with ether a solid rod or liquid. By application of plastic 3D printing on an FDM printer, specific details, namely, the plunger system and parts of the gel supply system, were produced and combined with a modified printer. Two types of printing of polymer hydrogels were optimized: droplet and filament modes. The rheological ranges suitable for printing for each method were indicated, and the resolution of the samples obtained and the algorithms for creating g-code via Python scripts were given. We have shown the possibility of droplet printing of microspheres with a diameter of 100 microns and a distance between spheres of 200 microns, as well as filament printing of lines with a thickness of 300-2000 microns, which is appropriate accuracy in comparison with commercial printers. This method, in addition to scientific groups, will be especially promising for educational tasks (as a practical work for engineering students or for the introduction of 3D printing into school classes) and industrial groups, as a way to implement 3D extrusion printing of composite polymer hydrogels in a time- and cost-effective way.

Abstract
Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) is an actively growing additive manufacturing (AM) technology due to its ability to produce complex shapes in a short time. AM, also known as 3-dimensional printing (3DP), creates the desired shape by adding material, preferably by layering contoured layers on top of each other. The need for low cost, design flexibility and automated manufacturing processes in industry has triggered the development of FDM. However, the mechanical properties of FDM printed parts are still weaker compared to conventionally manufactured products. Numerous studies and research have already been carried out to improve the mechanical properties of FDM printed parts. Reinforce polymer matrix with fiber is one of the possible solutions. Furthermore, reinforcement can enhance the thermal and electrical properties of FDM printed parts. Various types of fibers and manufacturing methods can be adopted to reinforce the polymer matrix for different desired outcomes. This review emphasizes the fiber types and fiber insertion techniques of FDM 3D printed fiber reinforcement polymer composites. A brief overview of fused deposition modelling, polymer sintering and voids formation during FDM printing is provided, followed by the basis of fiber reinforced polymer composites, type of fibers (synthetic fibers vs. natural fibers, continuous vs. discontinuous fiber) and the composites' performance. In addition, three different manufacturing methods of fiber reinforced thermoplastics based on the timing and location of embedding the fibers, namely 'embedding before the printing process (M1)', 'embedding in the nozzle (M2)', and 'embedding on the component (M3)', are also briefly reviewed. The performance of the composites produced by three different methods were then discussed.

Abstract
Orientation control of anisotropic one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) materials in solutions is of great importance in many fields ranging from structural materials design, the thermal management, to energy storage. Achieving fine control of vertical alignment of anisotropic fillers (such as graphene, boron nitride (BN), and carbon fiber) remains challenging. This work presents a universal and scalable method for constructing vertically aligned structures of anisotropic fillers in composites assisted by the expansion flow (using 2D BN platelets as a proof-of-concept). BN platelets in the silicone gel strip are oriented in a curved shape that includes vertical alignment in the central area and horizontal alignment close to strip surfaces. Due to the vertical orientation of BN in the central area of strips, a through-plane thermal conductivity as high as 5.65 W m-1 K-1 was obtained, which can be further improved to 6.54 W m-1 K-1 by combining BN and pitch-based carbon fibers. The expansion-flow-assisted alignment can be extended to the manufacture of a variety of polymer composites filled with 1D and 2D materials, which can find wide applications in batteries, electronics, and energy storage devices.

Abstract
Cellulose as the most abundant biopolymers on Earth, presents appealing performance in mechanical properties, thermal management, and versatile functionalization. The development of fabrication methods closely relates to enrich its functionality and reduce manufacture cost. However, cellulose is hard to be dissolved by most common solvents or melt due to its recalcitrant property. Herein, the recent progress of fabricating cellulose is summarized. First, the unique hierarchical structure of cellulose is fully investigated and the resulted processability is highlighted in directions of down to nanocellulose, dissolution, and thermoplastic processing. Then, the reported fabrication methods are summarized in three aspects: (1) self-assembly from nano/micro cellulose suspensions, especially the self-assembly of cellulose nanocrystals; (2) dissolution-regeneration-drying, covering spinning and solvent infusion processing; and (3) thermoplastic processing, focusing on analysis of the setup and the morphology changes of the prepared products. In each aspect, the flowchart of the fabrication process, the behind mechanism, fabricated products, and effects of processing parameters are explored. Finally, this review provides a perspective on the further direction of fabricating cellulose, especially the challenges toward mass production of cellulose. This article is protected by copyright. Abstract
Additive manufacturing (3D printing) has not been applicable to micro- and nanoscale engineering due to the limited resolution. Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is a technique for coating large areas with atomic thickness resolution based on tailored surface chemical reactions. Thus, combining the principles of additive manufacturing with ALD could open up a completely new field of manufacturing. Indeed, it is shown that a spatially localized delivery of ALD precursors can generate materials patterns. In this "atomic-layer additive manufacturing" (ALAM), the vertical resolution of the solid structure deposited is about 0.1 nm, whereas the lateral resolution is defined by the microfluidic gas delivery. The ALAM principle is demonstrated by generating lines and patterns of pure, crystalline TiO2 and Pt on planar substrates and conformal coatings of 3D nanostructures. The functional quality of ALAM patterns is exemplified with temperature sensors, which achieve a performance similar to the industry standard. This general method of multimaterial direct patterning is much simpler than standard multistep lithographic microfabrication. It offers process flexibility, saves processing time, investment, materials, waste, and energy. It is envisioned that together with etching, doping, and cleaning performed in a similar local manner, ALAM will create the "atomic-layer advanced manufacturing" family of techniques.

Abstract
3D printing techniques have great potential in the direct fabrication of microfluidic and many kinds of molds, such as dental and jewelry models. However, the resolution, surface roughness, and critical dimension uniformity of 3D printing objects are still a challenge for improvement. In this article, we proposed a 405nm light emitting diode (LED) backlight module based on stacks of structured films, and the full width half maximum (FWHM) of the angular distribution of this module is reduced to less than ± 15°. Compared with the commercial lens array optical module, the ten points intensity uniformity of an 8.9" build area is improved from 56% to 80%. Moreover, we found that the surface roughness and the sharpness of the edge of the printing objects are also obviously improved by our novel quasi-collimated LED backlight module. These features give us a promising way for the application of microfluidics and micro-optics components in the future.

Abstract
Functional nanoparticles (NPs) with unique photoelectric, mechanical, magnetic, and chemical properties have attracted considerable attention. Aggregated NPs rather than individual NPs are generally required for sensing, electronics, and catalysis. However, the transformation of functional NP aggregates into scalable, controllable, and affordable functional devices remains challenging. Printing is a promising additive manufacturing technology for fabricating devices from NP building blocks because of its capabilities for rapid prototyping and versatile multifunctional manufacturing. This paper reviews recent advances in NP patterning based on the combination of self-assembly and printing technologies (including two-, three-, and four-dimensional printing), introduces the basic characteristics of these methods, and discusses various fields of NP patterning applications. Abstract
Cardiovascular and related diseases (CVRDs) are among the most prevalent chronic diseases in the 21st century, with a high mortality rate. This review summarizes the various nanomedicines for diagnostic and therapeutic applications in CVRDs, including nanomedicine for angina pectoris, myocarditis, myocardial infarction, pericardial disorder, thrombosis, atherosclerosis, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, pulmonary arterial hypertension and stroke. Theranostic nanomedicines can prolong systemic circulation, escape from the host defense system, and deliver theranostic agents to the targeted site for imaging and therapy at a cellular and molecular level. Presently, discrete non-invasive and non-surgical theranostic methodologies are such an advancement modality capable of targeted diagnosis and therapy and have better efficacy with fewer side effects than conventional medicine. Additionally, we have presented the recent updates on nanomedicine in clinical trials, targeted nanomedicine and its translational challenges for CVRDs. Theranostic nanomedicine acts as a bridge towards CVRDs amelioration and its management.

Abstract
Anisotropy is the characteristic of a material to exhibit variations in its mechanical, electrical, thermal, optical properties, etc. along different directions. Anisotropic materials have attracted great research interest because of their wide applications in aerospace, sensing, soft robotics, and tissue engineering. 3D printing provides exceptional advantages in achieving controlled compositions and complex architecture, thereby enabling the manufacture of 3D objects with anisotropic functionalities. Here, a comprehensive review of the recent progress on 3D printing of anisotropic polymer materials based on different techniques including material extrusion, vat photopolymerization, powder bed fusion, and sheet lamination is presented. The state-of-the-art strategies implemented in manipulating anisotropic structures are highlighted with the discussion of material categories, functionalities, and potential applications. This review is concluded with analyzing the current challenges and providing perspectives for further development in this field.

Abstract
Several reports present methods to fabricate thin-film substrates capable of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). Substrates synthesized by displacing silver onto copper using facile synthesis methods such as galvanic displacement can generate high levels of SERS enhancement rivaling commercially available substrates manufactured by lithographic methods. Here, we describe the optimization of a novel set of SERS-active thin-film substrates synthesized via the electroless displacement of Ag onto the surface of three-dimensional (3D) printed disks composed of the copper/polymer (PLA) composite filament. The effect of AgNO3 concentration on the deposition, morphology, and overall SERS activity of the substrates has been carefully studied. Two commonly used Raman reporters, 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (MBA) and malachite green isothiocyanate (MGITC), were used to measure the SERS output of the substrates. Good SERS signal reproducibility (RSD ∼16.8%) was measured across the surface of replicate substrates and high-sensitivity detection of MBA was achieved (10-12 M). To test the real-world application of our substrates, we opted to detect 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (CMIT), which is a genotoxic, biocide common in many household products, known to leach into water supplies. Our newly developed SERS-active substrates could detect CMIT down to 10 ppm when spiked in simulated lake water samples, which is well within current agency standards.

Abstract
Nanoparticles (NPs) are materials considered to be 1-100 nm in size and are available in different dimensional shapes, geometrical sizes, physical morphologies, mechanical robustness, and chemical compositions. Irrespective of the dimensions (i.e., zero-dimensional (0D), one-dimensional (1D), and two-dimensional (2D)), NPs have a tendency to become entangled together, forming aggregations due to high attraction, making it hard to realize their full potential from their ordered counterparts. Many challenges exist to attain high-quality stabilized dispersion and long-range ordered assembly of NPs. Three-dimensional printing (3DP), also known as additive manufacturing (AM), is a technique dependent on layer-by-layer material addition for building 3D structures and encompasses a few categories based on the feedstock material types and printing mechanisms. One benefit from the 3DP procedures is their capability to produce anisotropic microstructural/nanostructural characteristics for desired mechanical reinforcement, transport phenomena, energy management, and biomedical implants. This paper briefly overviews relevant 3DP methods with an embedded nature to assemble nanoparticles without interference with external fields (e.g., magnetic or electrical). Our focus is the shear-field-induced nanoparticle alignment, covering material jetting-, electrohydrodynamic-, filament melting-, and ink writing-based 3DP. A concise summary of photopolymerization and its "optical tweezer" effects on nanoparticle confinement also inspires creative approaches in generating ordered nanostructures. The nanoparticles and polymers involved in this review are diverse, consisting of metallic, ceramic, and carbon nanoparticles in matrices or on surfaces of varying macromolecules. A short statement of challenges (e.g., low resolution, slow printing speed, limited material options) for 3DP-enabled nanoparticle orders provides some perspectives toward the enormous potential of 3DP in directing NPs assembly and fabricating high-performance polymer/nanoparticle composites.
