Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study is to determine the effect of hand-foot exercises on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy-related pain severity, falls, and quality of life in patients with colorectal cancer. METHODS The study was conducted in the outpatient chemotherapy unit of a public hospital between 25 April-31 December 2022. The enrolled 39 patients were randomly assigned to the intervention (n:19) and control (n:20) groups. The hand-foot exercises program was applied to the intervention group in three sessions a day and three days a week fashion for 8 weeks at home. No intervention was applied to the control group other than routine treatment and care. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews in the first interview and the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th weeks. The exercise program adherence of the intervention group was followed up through telephone/face-to-face interviews in weeks 1-8. Data were collected using the Numerical Pain Rating Scale, Fall Follow-Up Form, the CIPNAT scale, EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-CR29 scales. Mann-Whitney U Test, Chi-square test, Wilcoxon signed test, and Friedman test were used to analyze the data. RESULTS The study found that as of week 4th, the intervention group experienced less pain severity than the control group (p < 0.001); at week 8th, the peripheral neuropathy symptoms of the intervention group decreased compared to the control group (p < 0.05); at weeks 2nd,4th,6th,8th, there was no statistically significant difference in falls (p > 0.05); at week 8th, while there was no significant difference between the groups regarding colorectal cancer quality of life (p > 0.05), the overall cancer quality of life improved in the intervention group (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The hand-foot exercises program is effective in chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy-related symptoms, pain severity, and overall cancer quality of life. TRIAL REGISTRATION www. Abstract
PURPOSE Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a debilitating side effect of neurotoxic chemotherapy. Exercise activates neuromuscular function and may improve CIPN. We examined the association between exercise and CIPN symptoms in breast cancer survivors. METHODS In a retrospective cross-sectional study, we included patients completing a survey assessing exercise exposure and neuropathy symptoms in a tertiary cancer center survivorship clinic. We evaluated exercise duration and intensity using a standardized questionnaire quantified in metabolic equivalent tasks (MET-h/wk). We defined exercisers as patients meeting the National Physical Activity Guidelines' criteria. We used multivariable logistic regressions to examine the relationship between exercise and CIPN and if this differed as a function of chemotherapy regimen adjusting for age, gender, and race. RESULTS We identified 5444 breast cancer survivors post-chemotherapy (median age 62 years (interquartile range [IQR]: 55, 71); median 4.7 years post-chemotherapy (IQR: 3.3, 7.6)) from 2017 to 2022. CIPN overall prevalence was 34% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 33%, 36%), 33% for non-taxane, and 37% for taxane-based chemotherapy. CIPN prevalence was 28% (95% CI: 26%, 30%) among exercisers and 38% (95% CI: 37%, 40%) among non-exercisers (difference 11%; 95% CI: 8%, 13%; p < 0.001). Compared to patients with low (<6 MET-h/wk) levels of exercise (42%), 11% fewer patients with moderate (6-20.24 MET-h/wk) to high (>20.25 MET-h/wk) levels of exercise reported CIPN. Exercise was associated with reduced prevalence of all CIPN symptoms regardless of chemotherapy type. CONCLUSION CIPN may persist several years following chemotherapy among patients with breast cancer but is significantly reduced by exercise in a dose-dependent manner.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common and debilitating symptom experienced by cancer survivors. Despite the burden of CIPN-related symptoms, interventions remain limited. OBJECTIVES This narrative review seeks to propose a framework for CIPN predisposing, precipitating, and perpetuating factors (3Ps), which will provide a foundation for future research and clinical interventions aimed at mitigating CIPN-related symptoms and morbidity. METHODS A comprehensive literature search was performed using PubMed, guided by keywords related to "chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy." Studies were limited to those with full text available in English. RESULTS Predisposing factors outlined in this framework, such as older age and comorbid conditions, can be used to identify patients who have a higher risk of developing CIPN. The major precipitating factor of CIPN is the delivery of chemotherapy to peripheral nerves, which may be mitigated via cryotherapy or compression therapy during chemotherapy. Perpetuating factors can offer insight into psychological, cognitive, and behavioral modifications that could be treatment targets for CIPN management. CONCLUSION The proposed 3P model can guide the development of effective interventions for CIPN by suggesting modifiable psychological and behavioral treatment targets that may mitigate the impact of CIPN for cancer patients.

Abstract
Objective The purpose of this research is to evaluate the relationship between the degree of peripheral neuropathy associated with treatment and physical activity through the use of objective indicators such as wristband activity tracker and subjective evaluations obtained through interviews. Methods This study included 11 patients with gynecological cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, and malignant lymphoma. Participants were requested to wear a wristband activity meter at two time points: early and mid-treatment. Activity-meter step counts were compared with factors such as energy expenditure and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General during early and mid-treatment. Interviews were analyzed qualitatively and inductively. Results There was no difference in the number of steps taken by participants in the early and mid-treatment periods (P = 0.050), but they took more steps in the mid-treatment period than in the early period. Participants expended more energy during mid-treatment than early treatment, but these differences were not significant. We noted a correlation between the number of steps and energy expenditure in the mid-treatment period (r = 0.883). Comparisons between measures showed significant differences in "Impact" between early and mid-treatment on Distress and Impact Thermometer (P = 0.034). The impact of numbness on activity was assigned to three categories: loss of routine caused by numbness, coping with the numbness-related inconvenience using various resources, and acceptance of life with numbness with the support of others and self-strength. Conclusions The participants devised strategies to maintain activities despite experiencing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neurotoxicity. The use of activity meters may enhance patient motivation, which in our opinion, is beneficial for self-care education.

Abstract
Introduction Dance has been proposed to support superior intrinsic motivation over non-dance forms of therapeutic physical activity. However, this hypothesis has yet to be evaluated empirically, particularly among populations living with neuropathology such as survivors of cancer with neurologic complications from chemotherapy treatment. Questions about motivation are relevant to clinical outcomes because motivation mediates neuroplasticity. We conducted this secondary analysis of a randomized-controlled study to begin to investigate the relationships between personal motivation and neurophysiologic effects of dance-based intervention for healthy aging among populations with neurologic complications of cancer. Methods We measured motivation using the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory, a validated patient-reported outcome from the psychological approach of Self Determination Theory. We assessed intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and satisfaction with intervention within a randomized controlled trial of dance versus exercise designed to alleviate symptoms of chemotherapy-induced impairment. Fifty-two survivors of breast cancer with chemotherapy-induced neuropathy diagnosis and associated sensorimotor functional deficits were randomized (1:1) to 8 weeks of partnered dance or home exercise, performed biweekly (NCT05114005; R21-AG068831). Results While satisfaction did not differ between interventions, intrinsic motivation was higher among participants randomized to dance than those randomized to exercise (p < 0.0001 at all timepoints: 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, and 8 weeks of intervention), as was extrinsic motivation at 2 weeks (p = 0.04) and 8 weeks (p = 0.01). Discussion These data provide evidence that social dance is more motivating than the type of home exercise generally recommended as therapeutic physical activity. The results inform directions for future study of the effect of dance-based therapeutics on embodied agency, neuroplastic changes, and clinically-relevant neuropathic improvement.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Over the last few decades, the use of neo/adjuvant therapies has significantly increased the number of breast cancer survivors who experience chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). To date, few, low-efficacy, pharmacological remedies exist to manage this side effect. For this reason, alternative treatments are increasingly being investigated as possible strategies to prevent or promote faster recovery from CIPN. In this review we aimed to provide an overview of the literature evidence regarding all the non-pharmacological and rehabilitative interventions for patients affected by CIPN secondary to breast cancer care. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION A comprehensive literature search was conducted on PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science and included a total of 1895 patients (1528 with breast cancer) with a wide range of CIPN (motor, sensory and autonomic neuropathies) and chemotherapy treatments (e.g., Taxanes, Platins, Vinca alkaloids or monoclonal antibody drugs). EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS Of the initial 1108 hits, only 25 studies - describing different treatment modalities for peripheral neuropathies - were finally included in the qualitative synthesis. Most studies focused on acupuncture, physiotherapy, cryotherapy, and yoga. CONCLUSIONS There is still controversial evidence on conservative non-pharmacological interventions for the management of CIPN symptoms. We believe however that moderate exercise, as well as all types of stress reducing activities like sport, yoga and mindfulness, should be encouraged in cancer patients for their positive effect on global physical and psychological health. Further studies of higher methodological quality are needed to determine the best conservative approach to CIPN.

Abstract
Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a debilitating sequela that is difficult for both clinicians and cancer patients to manage. Precise mechanisms of CIPN remain elusive and current clinically prescribed therapies for CIPN have limited efficacy. Recent studies have begun investigating the interactions between the peripheral and central nervous systems and the immune system. Understanding these neuroimmune interactions may shift the paradigm of elucidating CIPN mechanisms. Although the contribution of immune cells to CIPN pathogenesis represents a promising area of research, its fully defined mechanisms have not yet been established. Therefore, in this review, we will discuss (i) current shortcoming of CIPN treatments, (ii) the roles of neuroimmune interactions in CIPN development and (iii) potential neuroimmune interaction-targeting treatment strategies for CIPN. Interestingly, monocytes/macrophages in dorsal root ganglia; microglia and astrocytes in spinal cord; mast cells in skin; and Schwann cell near peripheral nerves have been identified as inducers of CIPN behaviors, whereas T cells have been found to contribute to CIPN resolution. Additionally, nerve-resident immune cells have been targeted as prevention and/or therapy for CIPN using traditional herbal medicines, small molecule inhibitors, and intravenous immunoglobulins in a preclinical setting. Overall, unveiling neuroimmune interactions associated with CIPN may ultimately reduce cancer mortality and improve cancer patients' quality of life.

Abstract
As a result of increasingly individualized and multimodal therapy, prognosis of breast cancer has improved significantly over the last years. However, multimodal treatment and the use of new medications can lead to a variety of somatic, sometimes new, side effects such as fatigue, polyneuropathy or autoimmune toxicities. This and the oncological diagnosis lead to a high level of psychological distress in the women affected and often to subsequent psychological disorders (sleep/anxiety disorders, depression, ...). Both the diverse complaints after oncological therapy and the increasingly improved overall prognosis underline the importance of multimodal rehabilitation concepts to improve quality of life and successful professional reintegration.In the following, these secondary disorders after breast cancer, their multimodal therapy and their significance for social-medical performance assessment are presented in more detail.

Abstract
Purpose Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neurotoxicity (CIPN) is a prevalent, dose-limiting, tough-to-treat toxicity involving numbness, tingling, and pain in the extremities with enigmatic pathophysiology. This randomized controlled pilot study explored the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of exercise during chemotherapy on CIPN and the role of the interoceptive brain system, which processes bodily sensations. Methods Nineteen patients (65±11 years old, 52% women; cancer type: breast, gastrointestinal, multiple myeloma) starting neurotoxic chemotherapy were randomized to 12 weeks of exercise (home-based, individually tailored, moderate intensity, progressive walking and resistance training) or active control (nutrition education). At pre-, mid-, and post-intervention, we assessed CIPN symptoms (primary clinical outcome: CIPN-20), CIPN signs (tactile sensitivity using monofilaments), and physical function (leg strength). At pre- and post-intervention, we used task-free ("resting") fMRI to assess functional connectivity in the interoceptive brain system, involving the salience and default mode networks. Results The study was feasible (74-89% complete data across measures) and acceptable (95% retention). We observed moderate/large beneficial effects of exercise on CIPN symptoms (CIPN-20, 0-100 scale: -7.9±5.7, effect size [ES]=-0.9 at mid-intervention; -4.8±7.3, -ES=0.5 at post-intervention), CIPN signs (ES=-1.0 and -0.1), and physical function (ES=0.4 and 0.3). Patients with worse CIPN after neurotoxic chemotherapy had lower functional connectivity within the default mode network (R2=40-60%) and higher functional connectivity within the salience network (R2=20-40%). Exercise tended to increase hypoconnectivity and decrease hyperconnectivity seen in CIPN (R2 = 12%). Conclusion Exercise during neurotoxic chemotherapy is feasible and may attenuate CIPN symptoms and signs, perhaps via changes in interoceptive brain circuitry. Abstract
Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neurotoxicity (CIPN) is a common, sometimes dose-limiting side effect of neurotoxic chemotherapy. Treatment is limited because its pathophysiology is poorly understood. Compared to research on peripheral mechanisms, the role of the brain in CIPN is understudied and it may be important to develop better treatments. We propose a novel task that assesses brain activation associated with attention to bodily sensations (interoception), without the use of painful stimulation, to understand how CIPN symptoms may be processed in the brain. The goals of this preliminary study were to assess, 1) feasibility of the task, 2) sensitivity to changes in brain activity, and 3) suitability for assessing relationships between brain activation and CIPN severity. Eleven participants with varying types of cancer completed a brain fMRI scan and rated CIPN severity (CIPN-20) before and/or 12 weeks after starting neurotoxic chemotherapy. The Bodily Attention Task is a 7.5-min long fMRI task involving attentional focus on the left fingertips, the heart, or a flashing word "target" for visual attention (reference condition). Feasibility was confirmed, as 73% of all data collected were usable and participants reported feeling or focus during 75% of the trials. Regarding brain activity, finger attention increased activation in somatosensory regions (primary sensory cortex, insula) and sensory integration regions (precuneus, dorsolateral prefrontal cortex). Exploratory analyses suggested that brain activation may be associated with CIPN severity. A larger sample size and accounting of confounding factors is needed to test for replication and to identify brain and interoceptive biomarkers to help improve the prediction, prevention, and treatment of CIPN.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Exercise has been shown to play an important role in managing chemotherapy-related side effects, preserving skeletal muscle mass, and attenuating decline in cardiorespiratory fitness associated with chemotherapy treatment, however, the feasibility of how these exercise programs are being delivered has yet to be synthesized. The objective of this review was to measure the rates of recruitment, adherence, and retention to exercise programs delivered for cancer patients during chemotherapy. METHODS Relevant studies were identified through a search of MEDLINE, Cochrane, EMBASE and CINAHL databases from January 2002 to July 2022 using keywords relating to exercise interventions during chemotherapy. Title and abstract screening, full text review, data extraction, and quality assessment were all performed independently by two reviewers. RESULTS A total of 36 studies were included in the review. The mean recruitment rate for the included studies was 62.39% (SD = 19.40; range 25.7-95%). Travel was the most common reason for declining recruitment in these trials. Adherence rates ranged from 17-109%, however the definition of adherence varied greatly between studies. Mean retention rates for the exercise groups was 84.1% (SD = 12.7; range 50-100%), with chemotherapy side effects being the most common reason why participants dropped out of these trials. CONCLUSION Multiple challenges exist for cancer patients during chemotherapy and careful consideration needs to be given when designing an exercise program for this population. Future research should include public and patient involvement to ensure exercise programs are pragmatic and patient centred.

Abstract
We explored perspectives of patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (mNSCLC) on symptom screening and population-level patient-reported outcome (PRO) data regarding common symptom trajectories in the year after diagnosis. A qualitative study of patients with mNSCLC was conducted at a Canadian tertiary cancer centre. English-speaking patients diagnosed ≥ 6 months prior to study invitation were recruited, and semi-structured one-on-one interviews were conducted. Patient and treatment characteristics were obtained via chart review. Anonymized interview transcripts underwent deductive-inductive coding and thematic content analysis. Among ten participants (5 (50%) females; median (range) age, 68 (56-77) years; median (range) time since diagnosis, 28.5 (6-72) months; 6 (60%) with smoking histories), six themes were identified in total. Two themes were identified regarding symptom screening: (1) screening is useful for symptom self-monitoring and disclosure to the healthcare team, (2) screening of additional quality-of-life (QOL) domains (smoking-related stigma, sexual dysfunction, and financial toxicity) is desired. Four themes were identified regarding population-level symptom trajectory PRO data: (1) data provide reassurance and motivation to engage in symptom self-management, (2) data should be disclosed after an oncologic treatment plan is developed, (3) data should be communicated via in-person discussion with accompanying patient-education resources, and (4) communication of data should include reassurance about symptom stabilization, acknowledgement of variability in patient experience, and strategies for symptom self-management. The themes and recommendations derived from the patient experience with mNSCLC provide guidance for enhanced symptom screening and utilization of population-level symptom trajectory data for patient education.

Abstract
Over the past decade, the improvement in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics has extended the overall survival of patients diagnosed with cancer including brain cancer. However, despite these unprecedented medical successes, patients continue to experience numerous neurologic complications after treatment that interfere with their independence, functionality, and overall quality of life. These include, among others, cognitive impairment, endocrinopathies, peripheral and cranial neuropathies, and vasculopathy. This article describes the long-term neurologic complications cancer survivors commonly experience to increase awareness of these complications and discuss treatments when available. Further research is necessary to understanding of mechanisms of neurologic injury and advance diagnosis and treatment. Effective patient education, monitoring, and managing neurologic issues after cancer treatment may improve independence, functionality, and quality of life during survivorship.

Abstract
Purpose Although exercise is recommended for cancer survivors with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), the effective types of exercise for preventing and treating CIPN remain unclear. This systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) aimed to evaluate the comparative effects of exercise on CIPN. Methods We included relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) identified in a 2019 systematic review that evaluated the effects of exercise on CIPN and conducted an additional search for RCTs published until 2023. We evaluated the risk of bias for each RCT; the comparative effectiveness of exercise on patient-reported quality of life (QOL) through an NMA; and the effectiveness of exercise on QOL scores, patient-reported CIPN symptoms, and pain through additional meta-analyses. Results Twelve studies (exercise, n = 540; control, n = 527) comparing 8 exercise interventions were included in the analysis. All studies were determined to have a high risk of bias. The meta-analyses showed significantly improved QOL [standard mean differences (SMD) 0.45; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.12 to 0.78] and CIPN symptoms (SMD 0.46; 95% CI = 0.11 to 0.82). No severe adverse events were reported. Pain tended to improve with exercise (SMD 0.84; 95% CI = -0.11 to 1.80). An NMA suggested that the interventions of a combination of balance and strength training showed a significant improvement in QOL scores compared to the control. Conclusion Exercise interventions may be beneficial for improving QOL and CIPN symptoms. High-quality large clinical trials and data are needed to conclude that exercise is beneficial and safe.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. Oxaliplatin, which is used as adjuvant chemotherapy, affects quality of life by causing oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy in colorectal cancer patients. OBJECTIVES This study examined the effects of an application (app)-based physical activity program for alleviating peripheral neuropathy symptoms in colorectal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. METHODS This was a randomized controlled study that included 34 patients undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Outcomes were compared between patients who participated in a 6-week app-based physical activity program (experimental group; n = 17) and who received standard booklet education (control group; n = 17). Data were collected using questionnaires, and exercise time was recorded to evaluate intervention adherence. RESULTS Significant differences were observed between the groups in peripheral neuropathy symptoms (F = 8.93, P = .002), interference with activities (Z = -2.55, P = .011), and quality of life (F = 7.65, P = .003). The experimental group showed significantly higher average exercise times at 1 to 4 weeks (Z = -2.10, P = .026), 5 to 6 weeks (Z = -4.02, P < .001), and 1 to 6 weeks (Z = -3.40, P = .001) than the control group. CONCLUSIONS The app-based physical activity program had a positive effect on participants' exercise adherence and reduced peripheral neuropathy symptoms. Thus, we propose the adoption of a mobile health app that can be used at any time or place as an intervention for preventing or alleviating adverse effects during the treatment of cancer patients. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE An app-based physical activity program using the mobile health app can be used as a nursing intervention to manage symptoms and increase the health behavior adherence in cancer patients.

Abstract
Background More than half of cancer patients develop severe chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), resulting in low quality of life, negative effects on function, and challenges in treatment compliance. Most recent studies have shown that exercise therapy has a positive impact on reducing CIPN symptoms and can also improve quality of life, balance, and activity levels. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effect of exercise therapy on the efficacy of CIPN. Methods Computerized search of Embase, Web of Science, CNKI, Wan Fang Data, VIP, CBM for RCTs on exercise therapy for CIPN from database creation to November 2022, without language restriction. The Cochrane Handbook 5.3 risk of bias assessment tool was used to evaluate the quality of the included studies. Then Revman 5.3 software was used to evaluate the quality of the included studies. The heterogeneity of the research results is tested by I2, continuous variables were presented as weighted mean difference or standard mean difference, and confidence intervals were set at 95%. Stata15.0 was utilized to conduct a meta-analysis. Results A total of 15 RCTs with 1,124 patients were included. Meta-analysis showed that the test group was superior to the control group in terms of total symptom score (SMD: -0.62; 95% Cl: -0.99, -0.24), numbness, tingling, quality of life score (total score, physical, function), pain, balance, and neurotoxicity function assessment (FACT/GOG-NTX) questionnaire (p < 0.05). Limitations The duration and frequency of treatment are different every week, which may have some impact on the results. Conclusion Exercise therapy can be effective in treating CIPN by improving symptom score (total symptom score, numbness, tingling), quality of life score (total score, physical function), pain, balance, and FACT/GOG-NTX questionnaires. It still needs to be refined and validated by more high-quality, multicenter, large-sample RCTs in the future. Abstract
BACKGROUND In the field of exercise oncology, there is a need to quantify the potential benefits of moderate, self-directed physical activity during active treatment. In a pooled analysis of three identical single-arm intervention studies, we investigate the association of activity tracker steps with patient-reported toxicities during chemotherapy. METHODS Women with early breast cancer who were enrolled in the intervention studies reported their symptom severity every 2-3 weeks throughout chemotherapy, and daily steps were documented through a Fitbit activity tracker. Relative risks (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using Poisson regression models with robust variance. For outcomes significant in unadjusted models, adjusted RRs were calculated controlling for race, age, and education level. Tracker step cut point (high step, low step) was determined by the means. Cumulative incidence functions of moderate, severe, and very severe (MSVS) symptoms were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using a Cox proportional hazard model. RESULTS In a sample of 283 women, mean age was 56 years and 76% were White. Mean tracker-documented steps/week were 29,625, with 55% walking below the mean (low step) and 45% above (high step). In multivariable analysis, high step patients had lower risk for fatigue [RR 0.83 (0.70, 0.99)] (p = 0.04), anxiety [RR 0.59 (0.42, 0.84)] (p = 0.003), nausea [RR 0.66 (0.46, 0.96)] (p = 0.03), depression [RR 0.59 (0.37, 0.03)] (p = 0.02), and ≥ 6 MSVS symptoms [RR 0.73 (0.54, 1.00)] (p = 0.05) and had 36% lower risk for dose reductions [RR 0.64 (95% CI 0.43, 0.97)] (p = 0.03). CONCLUSION Self-directed walking at a rate of at least 30,000 steps/week may moderate the severity of treatment side effects during chemotherapy for early breast cancer. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Neurologic complications are among the most common and feared outcomes of cancer treatments. This review discusses the signs and symptoms, mechanisms, and management of the most common peripheral and central neurologic complications of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and antiangiogenic therapy during cancer treatment and in survivors. LATEST DEVELOPMENTS The landscape of cancer treatments is evolving to include more targeted and biologic therapies, in addition to more traditional cytotoxic therapies and radiation therapy. With increasingly complex regimens and longer survival for patients with cancer, the early recognition and management of neurologic complications is key to improving the morbidity and mortality of patients living with cancer. ESSENTIAL POINTS Neurologists should be familiar with acute central and peripheral toxicities that can occur during cancer treatment and delayed toxicities that can occur years after exposure. Neurologists should be familiar with the clinical and radiologic presentations of these complications and strategies for management.

Abstract
PURPOSE Chemotherapy-induced neurotoxicity in breast cancer survivors requires attention as their population are increasing. Limited qualitative study is known about breast cancer survivors' perspectives on regular walking exercise to improve post-chemotherapy neurotoxicity impairments in their free-living setting. This study explored regular walking exercise to improve post-chemotherapy neurotoxicity impairments from breast cancer survivors' perspectives. METHODS A qualitative descriptive study was conducted. A purposive sample of 15 participants experiencing neurotoxicity impairments was invited to semi-structured interviews. Textual interview data were managed in NVivo. Content analysis was performed. RESULTS Participants were aged 39-68 and had received 4-8 cycles of chemotherapy. Most (86.7%, n = 13) reported engaging in regular walking exercise. Four main categories emerged from the data: (1) perceived effects of regular exercise on neurotoxicity impairments, (2) unmet information needs, (3) regular walking habit being self-sustained, and (4) enablers and constraints of regular walking exercise. CONCLUSIONS Walking exercise, as commonly employed by participants in their free-living setting, was the essence in the management of chemotherapy-induced neurotoxic conditions during survivorship. Participants undertaking walking exercise lacked informed and individualized information about the regular walking exercise regime, and vigilance to evaluate post-exercise neurotoxic conditions. These might be the unmet needs of this research area and in clinical practice. Assessing and addressing individualized endeavors in a walking exercise regime will continue to be a vital component of cancer supportive care to fill the unmet information needs in survivorship.

Abstract
PURPOSE Successful completion of chemotherapy is critical to improve breast cancer outcomes. Relative dose intensity (RDI), defined as the ratio of chemotherapy delivered to prescribed, is a measure of chemotherapy completion and is associated with cancer mortality. The effect of exercise and eating a healthy diet on RDI is unknown. We conducted a randomized trial of an exercise and nutrition intervention on RDI and pathologic complete response (pCR) in women diagnosed with breast cancer initiating chemotherapy. METHODS One hundred seventy-three women with stage I-III breast cancer were randomly assigned to usual care (UC; n = 86) or a home-based exercise and nutrition intervention with counseling sessions delivered by oncology-certified registered dietitians (n = 87). Chemotherapy dose adjustments and delays and pCR were abstracted from electronic medical records. T-tests and chi-square tests were used to examine the effect of the intervention versus UC on RDI and pCR. RESULTS Participants randomly assigned to intervention had greater improvements in exercise and diet quality compared with UC (P < .05). RDI was 92.9% ± 12.1% and 93.6% ± 11.1% for intervention and UC, respectively (P = .69); the proportion of patients in the intervention versus UC who achieved ≥85% RDI was 81% and 85%, respectively (P = .44). The proportion of patients who had at least one dose reduction and/or delay was 38% intervention and 36% UC (P = .80). Among 72 women who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy, women randomly assigned to intervention were more likely to have a pCR than those randomly assigned to UC (53% v 28%; P = .037). CONCLUSION Although a diet and exercise intervention did not affect RDI, the intervention was associated with a higher pCR in patients with hormone receptor-positive/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative and triple-negative breast cancer undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The American College of Sports Medicine provided guidelines for exercise prescriptions in cancer survivors for specific cancer- and treatment-related health outcomes. However, there was insufficient evidence to generate exercise prescriptions for 10 health outcomes of cancer treatment. We sought to update the state of evidence. METHODS We conducted a systematic review of these 10 understudied health outcomes (bone health, sleep, cardiovascular function, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), cognitive function, falls and balance, nausea, pain, sexual function, and treatment tolerance) and provided an update of evidence. RESULTS While the evidence base for each outcome has increased, there remains insufficient evidence to generate exercise prescriptions. Common limitations observed across outcomes included: variability in type and quality of outcome measurement tools, variability in definitions of the health outcomes, a lack of phase III trials, and a majority of trials investigating breast or prostate cancer survivors only. CONCLUSION We identified progress in the field of exercise oncology for several understudied cancer- and treatment-related health outcomes. However, we were not able to generate exercise prescriptions due to continued insufficient evidence base. More work is needed to prescribe exercise as medicine for these understudied health outcomes, and our review highlights several strategies to aid in research acceleration within these areas of exercise oncology.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a common symptom, and exercise has shown potential in alleviating CRF. However, there is a need for diverse exercise options tailored to individual patient needs. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the overall effects of a combined walking and resistance band exercise intervention in relieving CRF among cancer patients through randomized controlled trials. METHODS Comprehensive searches were conducted in multiple databases to identify relevant studies up until March 2023. Inclusion criteria required the intervention to involve walking combined with elastic band training, with a clear exercise protocol description. The primary outcome was CRF, and secondary outcomes included walking steps, distance, mood distress, and quality of life. Standardized mean differences (SMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using random-effects models. RESULTS Ten trials were included. The intervention group showed significant improvements in CRF (SMD, -0.40; 95% CI, -0.60 to -0.20), mood distress (SMD, -0.30; 95% CI, -0.53 to -0.07), and daily walking steps (SMD, 0.52; 95% CI, 0.07-0.96) compared with the control group. Although the 6-Minute Walk Test and quality of life did not show significant differences, a trend toward improvement was observed in the intervention group. Adverse events related to the intervention were infrequent. CONCLUSION A combined walking and resistance band exercise intervention can effectively alleviate CRF and improve mood distress and daily walking steps among cancer patients. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE This exercise option may provide an additional strategy to manage CRF. Further research is needed to explore the optimal exercise prescription for individual patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common adverse effect in patients with breast cancer (BC) during treatment. Patients experiencing CIPN develop neuropathic symptoms, which could lead to the modification or discontinuation of chemotherapy. Nonpharmacological interventions can be simple and safe, but evidence of their effectiveness in patients with BC experiencing CIPN is currently insufficient. OBJECTIVE To compare and rank the effectiveness of nonpharmacologic interventions for CIPN in patients with BC. METHODS We conducted a systematic search of randomized controlled trials registered from database inception until October 2022 in 7 databases. We assessed studies that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and evaluated the risk of bias. Network meta-analysis was conducted using Stata SE 17.0 (StataCorp, College Station, Texas). RESULTS A total of 13 studies involving 9 nonpharmacologic interventions and comprising 571 participants were included. The results of the network meta-analysis showed that cryotherapy (standard mean difference, -1.22; 95% confidence interval, -2.26 to -0.17) exerted significant effects versus usual care. Cryotherapy (surface under the cumulative ranking area [SUCRA]: 0.74) was associated with the highest likelihood of effectively alleviating CIPN in patients with BC, followed by exercise (SUCRA: 0.62) and self-acupressure (SUCRA: 0.59). CONCLUSIONS Cryotherapy was the most effective nonpharmacologic intervention for alleviating CIPN in patients with BC. Large-scale studies are required to verify the present findings. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE This study provides evidence regarding the effectiveness of nonpharmacologic interventions for CIPN. Physicians and nurses could incorporate cryotherapy into clinical practice to alleviate CIPN in patients with BC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this article is to provide an overview and update on the most clinically relevant toxic neuropathies. LATEST DEVELOPMENTS Broadly, toxic neuropathies were previously quite rare with the notable exception of neuropathy from alcohol or older chemotherapeutics. The development of newer therapies, particularly immunotherapy to treat malignancy, has resulted in a substantial increase in the occurrence of toxic neuropathies that require timely recognition and treatment. The understanding of other toxic neuropathies continues to evolve, such as statin-induced neuropathy, which new evidence suggests is much less common than previously suspected. ESSENTIAL POINTS Toxic neuropathies can be caused by medications, supplements, and recreational substances that injure peripheral nerves. Medications have evolved in the past 2 decades, as have the types of neuropathies that can be seen as related toxicities. In some areas of medicine, new classes and generations of drugs are associated with a lower incidence of toxic neuropathy.

Abstract
PURPOSE Peripheral neuropathy adversely affects the treatment process of cancer, and thus it is important to reveal the factors leading to peripheral neuropathy and to take the necessary precautions to avoid it. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) and lifestyle factors (nutrition, physical activity and sleep quality). METHODS This descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 108 individuals who were treated in the chemotherapy unit of a hospital between April 2021 and April 2022 in Turkey. Data were collected using the Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy Assessment Tool (CIPNAT), the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), the Mini Nutritional Assessment Test (MNA), and the sleep level Visual Analog Scale. Number, percentages, means, and standard deviations were calculated, and multiple linear regression analysis and path analysis were conducted to analyze the data. RESULTS The results indicate that the total MET score significantly and positively predicted the sleep scale score (β = 0.24, p < 0.01), while it negatively and significantly predicted the CIPNAT score (β = -0.30, p < 0.001). In addition, both the MNA screening score and the sleep scale score significantly and negatively predicted the CIPNAT score (β = -0.25, p < 0.01, β = -0.29, p < 0.001, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Lifestyle factors (exercise, nutrition, sleep) were found to have an effect on peripheral neuropathy. It is thought that increasing the level of exercise improves sleep quality, and regular nutrition, quality sleep and increased physical activity may be effective in reducing peripheral neuropathy.

Abstract
The causes of variation in toxicity to the same treatment regimen among seemingly similar patients remain largely unknown. There was tremendous optimism that the patient's germline genome would be strongly predictive of treatment-related toxicity and could be used to personalize treatment and improve therapeutic outcomes. However, there has been limited success in discovering robust pharmacogenetic predictors of treatment-related toxicity and even less progress in translating the few validated predictors into clinical practice. It is apparent that identification of toxicity predictors that can be used to predict and prevent treatment-related toxicity will require thinking beyond germline genomics. To that end, we propose an integrated biomarker discovery approach that recognizes that a patient's toxicity risk is determined by the cumulative effects of a broad range of "omic" and non-omic factors. This commentary describes the limited success in discovering and translating clinical and pharmacogenetic toxicity predictors into clinical practice. We illustrate the evolution of cancer toxicity biomarker discovery and translation through studies of taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy, which is one of the most common and debilitating side effects of cancer treatment. We then discuss the opportunities for discovering non-genomic (e.g., metabolomic, lipidomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, microbiomic, medical, behavioral, environmental) and integrated biomarkers that may be more strongly predictive of toxicity risk and the potential challenges with translating integrated biomarkers into clinical practice. This integrated biomarker discovery approach may circumvent some of the major limitations in toxicity biomarker science and move precision oncology treatment forward so that patients receive maximum treatment benefit with minimal toxicity.

Abstract
PURPOSE Exercise may ameliorate treatment-related symptoms, but older adults have lower exercise adherence compared to their younger counterparts due to treatment-related symptoms. METHODS We recruited older patients with myeloid neoplasms receiving chemotherapy to a pilot study of a mobile health exercise intervention. Participants entered their steps and resistance data into the app daily, and symptom data twice a week, over an 8-12 week period. In this proof-of-concept analysis, we used a linear mixed-effects model to assess the association of symptoms from the previous week with exercise adherence in the current week among older adults with myeloid neoplasms. RESULTS Mean age was 74.3 (SD = 5.0) years (N = 7). At baseline, patients on average walked 2564 daily steps (SD = 1816), which increased to 2967 (SD = 3448) post-intervention. Patients on average performed 3.5 (SD = 2.6) days of resistance training weekly, with mean duration of 21.5 min (SD = 11.6) and rated perceived exertion of 3.68 (SD = 1.78) on a 0-10 scale. Lower average steps in the current week was associated with greater interference with daily activities from pain (β = - 203.13, p = 0.05), memory (β = - 492.29, p = 0.09), numbness (β = - 353.57, p = 0.07), and sadness (β = - 403.03, p = 0.09) in the previous week. Similarly, lower average resistance minutes in the current week were associated with greater pain, sadness, and anxiety in the previous week. CONCLUSIONS We found that greater pain, sadness, and anxiety were associated with lower exercise adherence. Symptom monitoring and management in older adults with myeloid neoplasms receiving chemotherapy can promote exercise adherence and in turn improve symptoms. Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer treatment frequently results in chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), which is a side effect that is now neither properly preventable nor treatable. Physical therapy has been studied in this patient population and is frequently utilised for neurological rehabilitation after damage. PURPOSE This study set out to thoroughly review randomised controlled trials (RCTs) examining the efficacy of physical therapy for patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. DATA SOURCES From their beginning in January 2017 to January 2023, EMBASE, PubMed, Medline, PEDro, and the Cochrane Library were searched for pertinent RCTs. Additionally, manual search techniques were applied. STUDY SELECTION On the basis of the inclusion criteria, two reviewers independently determined the study's eligibility. DATA EXTRACTION Reviewers evaluated the quality of the studies and took note of their methodologies, designs, interventions, outcomes, and conclusions. DATA SYNTHESIS Ten RCTs met all inclusion criteria. LIMITATIONS Overall results are constrained by the variety of interventions and the small sample sizes of the included studies, which also indicate the need for more studies. CONCLUSIONS Physical therapy has additional benefits for enhancing the quality of life of patients with peripheral neuropathy brought on by chemotherapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common dose-limiting toxicity for people treated for cancer. Impaired balance and falls are functional consequences of CIPN. Virtual reality (VR) technology may be able to assess balance and identify patients at risk of falls. AIMS To assess the impact of potentially neurotoxic chemotherapy on balance using VR, and explore associations between VR balance assessment, falls and CIPN. METHODS This prospective, repeated measures longitudinal study was conducted at two Australian cancer centres. Eligible participants were commencing adjuvant chemotherapy containing a taxane for breast cancer, or oxaliplatin for colorectal cancer (CRC), per institutional guidelines. Balance assessments using VR were conducted at baseline, end of chemotherapy and 3 and 6 months after completion of chemotherapy. Participants also completed a comprehensive CIPN assessment comprising clinical and patient-reported outcomes, and recorded falls or near falls. RESULTS Out of 34 participants consented, 24 (71%) had breast cancer and 10 (29%) had CRC. Compared to baseline, balance threshold was reduced in 10/28 (36%) evaluable participants assessed at the end of chemotherapy, and persistent in 7/22 (32%) at 6 months. CIPN was identified in 86% at end of chemotherapy and persisted to 6 months after chemotherapy completion in 73%. Falls or near falls were reported by 12/34 (35%) participants, and were associated with impaired VR balance threshold (P = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS While VR balance assessment was no better at identifying CIPN than existing measures, it is a potential surrogate method to assess patients at risk of falls from CIPN.

Abstract
Importance Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), one of the most common and severe adverse effects of chemotherapy, is associated with worse quality of life among survivors of ovarian cancer. Currently, there is no effective treatment for CIPN. Objective To evaluate the effect of a 6-month aerobic exercise intervention vs attention-control on CIPN among women treated for ovarian cancer in the Women's Activity and Lifestyle Study in Connecticut (WALC) to provide evidence to inform the guidelines and recommendations for prevention or treatment of CIPN. Design, Setting, and Participants This prespecified secondary analysis evaluated the Women's Activity and Lifestyle Study in Connecticut (WALC), a multicentered, open-label, population-based, phase 3 randomized clinical trial of an aerobic exercise intervention vs attention control for CIPN in patients who were diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Only WALC participants who received chemotherapy were included in this analysis. Participants were randomized 1:1 to either a 6-month aerobic exercise intervention or to attention control. All analyses were conducted between September 2022 and January 2023. Interventions The exercise intervention consisted of home-based moderate-intensity aerobic exercise facilitated by weekly telephone counseling from an American College of Sports Medicine/American Cancer Society-certified cancer exercise trainer. Attention control involved weekly health education telephone calls from a WALC staff member. Main Outcomes and Measure Change in CIPN was the primary outcome in this secondary analysis. This outcome was represented by CIPN severity, which was self-measured by participants at baseline and 6 months using the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy/Gynecologic Oncology Group-Neurotoxicity scale, with a score range of 0 to 44. A mixed-effects model was used to assess the 6-month change in CIPN between the exercise intervention and attention control arms. Results Of the 134 participants (all females; mean [SD] age, 57.5 [8.3] years) included in the analysis, 69 were in the exercise intervention arm and 65 were in the attention control arm. The mean (SD) time since diagnosis was 1.7 (1.0) years. The mean (SD) baseline CIPN scores were 8.1 (5.6) in the exercise intervention arm and 8.8 (7.9) in the attention control arm (P = .56). At 6 months, the self-reported CIPN score was reduced by 1.3 (95% CI, -2.3 to -0.2) points in the exercise intervention arm compared with an increase of 0.4 (95% CI, -0.8 to 1.5) points in the attention control arm. The between-group difference was -1.6 (95% CI, -3.1 to -0.2) points. The point estimate was larger among the 127 patients with CIPN symptoms at enrollment (-2.0; 95% CI, -3.6 to -0.5 points). Conclusions and Relevance Findings of this secondary analysis of the WALC trial indicate that a 6-month aerobic exercise intervention vs attention control significantly improved self-reported CIPN among patients who were treated for ovarian cancer. While replication of the findings in other studies is warranted, incorporating referrals to exercise programs into standard oncology care could reduce CIPN symptoms and increase quality of life in patients with ovarian cancer. Abstract
Despite the importance of chemotherapy-associated adverse events in oncology practice and the broad range of interventions available to mitigate them, limited systematic efforts have been made to identify, critically appraise and summarize the totality of evidence on the effectiveness of these interventions. Herein, we review the most common long-term (continued beyond treatment) and late or delayed (following treatment) adverse events associated with chemotherapy and other anticancer treatments that pose major threats in terms of survival, quality of life and continuation of optimal therapy. These adverse effects often emerge during and continue beyond the course of therapy or arise among survivors in the months and years following treatment. For each of these adverse effects, we discuss and critically evaluate their underlying biological mechanisms, the most commonly used pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment strategies, and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for their appropriate management. Furthermore, we discuss risk factors and validated risk-assessment tools for identifying patients most likely to be harmed by chemotherapy and potentially benefit from effective interventions. Finally, we highlight promising emerging supportive-care opportunities for the ever-increasing number of cancer survivors at continuing risk of adverse treatment effects.

Abstract
Purpose This study investigated the experience of oncology nurses caring for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuritis patients. Patients and Methods Through phenomenological research method, 11 nurses in a tertiary hospital in Shanghai were interviewed using face-to-face semi-structured interviews. Data analysis was conducted with the thematic analysis approach. Results This analysis revealed the experiences of oncology nurses in caring for patients with CIPN and identified three themes: 1) stress in the nursing of CIPN (inadequate knowledge of CIPN among oncology nurses, oncology nurses' CIPN nursing skills need to be improved, negative emotions of oncology nurses at work); 2) environmental dilemmas in nursing of CIPN (lack of effective care norms, busy schedules, doctors pay little attention to CIPN); 3) oncology nurses' desire to improve their knowledge of CIPN to meet care needs. Conclusion Based on the perspective of oncology nurses, the care dilemma of CIPN is mainly influenced by individual and environmental factors. It is recommended to enhance the attention of oncology nurses to CIPN, set specific and feasible training courses, explore CIPN assessment tools that meet our clinical practice, and construct CIPN care programs to improve CIPN clinical care ability and reduce patient suffering.

Abstract
Background: Taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy (TIPN) is an important cause of premature treatment cessation and dose-limitation in cancer therapy. It also reduces quality of life and survivorship in affected patients. Genetic polymorphisms in the CYP3A family have been investigated but the findings have been inconsistent and contradictory. Methods: A systematic review identified 12 pharmacogenetic studies investigating genetic variation in CYP3A4*22 and CYP3A5*3 and TIPN. In our candidate gene study, 288 eligible participants (211 taxane participants receiving docetaxel or paclitaxel, and 77 control participants receiving oxaliplatin) were successfully genotyped for CYP3A4*22 and CYP3A5*3. Genotyping data was transformed into a combined CYP3A metaboliser phenotype: Poor metabolisers, intermediate metabolisers and extensive metabolisers. Individual genotypes and combined CYP3A metaboliser phenotypes were assessed in relation to neurotoxicity, including by meta-analysis where possible. Results: In the systematic review, no significant association was found between CYP3A5*3 and TIPN in seven studies, with one study reporting a protective association. For CYP3A4*22, one study has reported an association with TIPN, while four other studies failed to show an association. Evaluation of our patient cohort showed that paclitaxel was found to be more neurotoxic than docetaxel (p < 0.001). Diabetes was also significantly associated with the development of TIPN. The candidate gene analysis showed no significant association between either SNP (CYP3A5*3 and CYP3A4*22) and the development of TIPN overall, or severe TIPN. Meta-analysis showed no association between these two variants and TIPN. Transformed into combined CYP3A metaboliser phenotypes, 30 taxane recipients were poor metabolisers, 159 were intermediate metabolisers, and 22 were extensive metabolisers. No significant association was observed between metaboliser status and case-control status. Summary: We have shown that the risk of peripheral neuropathy during taxane chemotherapy is greater in patients who have diabetes. CYP3A genotype or phenotype was not identified as a risk factor in either the candidate gene analysis or the systematic review/meta-analysis, although we cannot exclude the possibility of a minor contribution, which would require a larger sample size.

Abstract
Background Physical activity is important for individuals with cancer. Older adults with cancer (OACA) have been disproportionally vulnerable to both COVID-19 infection and its outcomes. This study investigated how the COVID-19 pandemic and associated restrictions affected physical activity in OACA in one Canadian province. Method An online cross-sectional survey was conducted. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, with SPSS® Version 27. Answers to free-text questions were grouped, based on thematic categories. Results One hundred and fifteen OACA participated in this study; more than 46% reported lower levels of physical activity since the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants described increases in sedentary behaviour and reduced physical activity overall. They also described barriers to physical activity, and remained open to remotely delivered physical activity interventions. Conclusion The pandemic disrupted physical activity routines among OACA. Future efforts should include an acceleration of research related to remotely delivered interventions given older adults' growing acceptance of such technologies.

Abstract
Contexte L’activité physique apporte des bienfaits majeurs aux personnes atteintes de cancer. Les personnes âgées atteintes de cancer ont été disproportionnellement touchées par la pandémie de COVID-19 et ses contrecoups. La présente étude examine les effets de la pandémie de COVID-19 et de ses restrictions sur l’activité physique des personnes âgées atteintes de cancer en Saskatchewan, une province située au centre du Canada. Méthodologie Des données quantitatives ont été recueillies au moyen d’une enquête transversale en ligne pour ensuite faire l’objet d’une analyse statistique descriptive et inférentielle à l’aide de la version 27 du logiciel SPSSMD. Les réponses aux questions ouvertes ont été regroupées par thème. Résultats L’échantillon était composé de 115 personnes âgées atteintes de cancer; plus de 46 % d’entre elles ont déclaré avoir diminué leur niveau d’activité physique au cours de la pandémie de COVID-19. En général, les participants ont été plus sédentaires et moins actifs. Abstract
There have been significant advances in the treatment of cancer in the past decade. However, patients continue to suffer from significant side effects of antineoplastic agents that greatly affect their quality of life (QOL), including chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), and chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA). This review aims to provide an updated overview of emerging strategies for the management and prevention of these immediate and long-lasting side effects. The use of integrative medicine including cannabis continues to evolve in the realm of CINV and cancer-related anorexia. Although no pharmaceutical agent has been approved for the prevention of CIPN, cryotherapy, compression therapy and, more recently, cryocompression therapy have shown benefit in small trials, but there are concerns with tolerability especially related to cryotherapy. More data are necessary to determine an effective and tolerable option to prevent CIPN in large, randomized studies. Scalp cooling (SC), which has a similar mechanism to cryotherapy and compression therapy for CIPN prevention, has proven to be an effective and tolerable approach in randomized studies and has significantly limited CIA, an entity that definitively affects the QOL of patients living with cancer. Taken together, cannabis, cryotherapy, compression and cryocompression therapy, and SC all strive to improve the QOL of patients living with cancer by minimizing the side effects of chemotherapeutic agents.

Abstract
AIM This study aims to evaluate the impact of peripheral neuropathy symptoms throughout with monthly follow-ups during 4 months of paclitaxel treatment. METHODS This prospective cross-sectional study was conducted with 79 patients. The study population consisted of female patients with breast cancer between August 2018 and January 2019. ''Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy Assessment Tool'' and ''EORTC C30 Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire'' were applied with four follow-ups. The study was undertaken in accordance with the STROBE checklist for cross- sectional studies. RESULTS The Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy Assessment Tool except for the general activity subdimension were statistically significant in the ratings of second, compared to first; third compared to first and second; fourth compared to first, second, and third follow-up periods. The overall mean of the EORTC C30 Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire, functioning, symptom, and global health status were statistically significant in the evaluations of second, compared with first; third compared with first and second; fourth compared with first, second, and third follow-up periods. CONCLUSION Findings from this study suggest that the increase in neuropathy symptoms during cures negatively affects the quality of life.

Abstract
PURPOSE Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neurotoxicity (CIPN) is a highly prevalent, dose-limiting, costly, and tough-to-treat adverse effect of several chemotherapy agents, presenting as sensory and motor dysfunction in the distal extremities. Due to limited effective treatments, CIPN can permanently reduce patient function, independence, and quality of life. One of the most promising interventions for CIPN is physical therapy which includes exercise, stretching, balance, and manual therapy interventions. Currently, there are no physical therapy guidelines for CIPN, thus limiting its uptake and potential effectiveness. METHODS Utilizing the authors' collective expertise spanning physical therapy, symptom management research, oncology, neurology, and treating patients with CIPN, we propose a comprehensive clinical workflow for physical therapists to assess and treat CIPN. This workflow is based on (1) physical therapy guidelines for treating neurologic symptoms like those of CIPN, (2) results of clinical research on physical therapy and exercise, and (3) physical therapy clinical judgement. RESULTS We present detailed tables of pertinent physical therapy assessment and treatment methods that can be used in clinical settings. CIPN assessment should include detailed sensory assessment, objective strength assessments of involved extremities, and validated physical performance measures incorporating static and dynamic balance, gait, and functional mobility components. CIPN treatment should involve sensorimotor, strength, balance, and endurance-focused interventions, alongside a home-based exercise prescription that includes aerobic training. We conclude with action items for oncology teams, physical therapists, patients, and researchers to best apply this framework to address CIPN. CONCLUSIONS Physical therapists are in a unique position to help assess, prevent, and treat CIPN given their training and prevalence, yet there are no physical therapy clinical practice guidelines for CIPN. Our preliminary suggestions for CIPN assessments and treatments can catalyze the development of guidelines to assess and treat CIPN. We urge oncology teams, physical therapists, patients, and researchers to develop, adapt, and disseminate this framework to help alleviate the burden of chemotherapy on patients with cancer.

Abstract
Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a serious side effect of weekly paclitaxel-based chemotherapy for breast cancer, that can persist for years. Cryotherapy therapy is effective for preventing early CIPN, but its protective effect on persistent CIPN is uncertain. This is a cross-sectional study conducted as an ancillary analysis of a randomized trial investigating the preventive effect of cryotherapy on CIPN in breast cancer patients receiving weekly paclitaxel-based chemotherapy (UMIN000034966). Eligible patients were evaluated for CIPN at more than a year after completion of the chemotherapy (persistent CIPN). CIPN was defined as a 6 or more points reduction from baseline in the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Neurotoxicity (FACT-NTX) score. The incidence of early and persistent CIPN was compared between cryotherapy and control groups. Thirty-eight patients were examined for both early and persistent CIPN. The median time from completion of the weekly paclitaxel-based chemotherapy to the questionnaire for persistent CIPN was 2.3 (1.3-3.1) years. In all 38 patients, persistent CIPN was demonstrated in 10 (26.3%), respectively. There was a numerical, however not significant, reduction in the incidence of persistent CIPN (15.8% vs 36.8%, P = .1) in the cryotherapy group compared with the control group, respectively. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, age ≥ 65 was a substantial risk factor for persistent CIPN (HR: 14.7, 95%CI: 1.7-130.7, P = .01). In breast cancer patients receiving adjuvant weekly paclitaxel-based chemotherapy, cryotherapy resulted in a numerical, however not significant, reduction in the incidence of persistent CIPN and age>=65 was a risk factor for persistent CIPN.

Abstract
PURPOSE Summarize and critically evaluate the existing studies to determine the effects of exercise on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in cancer patients. METHODS We searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases for randomized controlled trials reporting exercise intervention in cancer patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. The outcomes of interest included chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy symptoms, physical function (balance control, muscle strength, and functional status), and quality of life. The Cochrane Collaboration's tool was employed to assess the risk of bias. RESULTS The search identified 1309 studies, 16 of which eligible. Our meta-analysis revealed that exercise intervention significantly improved the quality of life (SMD = 0.83, 95% CI = 0.58 to 1.08, I2 = 0%, P < 0.00001) and relieved neuropathic pain (MD = - 4.93, 95% CI = - 5.60 to - 4.26, I2 = 0%, P < 0.00001). The muscular strength of the upper (SMD = 1.10, 95% CI = 0.68 to 1.51, I2 = 25%, P < 0.00001) and the lower limbs (SMD = 0.84, 95% CI = 0.42 to 1.26, I2 = 36%, P < 0.00001) increased and balance performance (SMD = 1.05, 95% CI = 0.62 to1.48, I2 = 0%, P < 0.00001) was better in the exercise group than in the group with usual care. However, no evidence was found that exercise intervention could improve CIPN symptoms. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study showed that combined exercise could be an effective option for improving quality of life, physical function (balance control and muscle strength), and neuropathic pain in cancer patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. Further exploration of appropriate exercise prescriptions is needed to improve other outcomes. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Specific and appropriate exercise intervention for cancer patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy should be recommended because these interventions can improve their quality of life and physical function.

Abstract
Objective The aim of this study was to quantitatively evaluate the efficacy of a self-monitoring intervention for the management of persistent chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Methods A randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted on 65 outpatients receiving taxane or platinum-based anticancer drugs. Participants were assigned to the control group (CG; n = 32) or the self-monitoring group (SMG; n = 33) and followed for 6 weeks. Non-interveners were blinded. Participants in the intervention group self-monitored and recorded. The researchers provided feedback on the recorded symptoms and coping strategies once every 3 weeks. The efficacy of the 6-week self-monitoring intervention was assessed, using various measures, at baseline (T0), 3 weeks (T1), and 6 weeks (T2). Scores of CIPN, Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy/Gynecologic Oncology Group-Neurotoxicity, Distress and Impact Thermometer, Self-Efficacy Scale for Advanced Cancer, and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General of both groups were compared. Safety behavior in daily life was also compared. The study was conducted from August 9, 2017 to March 30, 2020 in outpatient clinics at three hospitals. Analysis was conducted using the t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, χ2 test, and two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance (two-way RMANOVA). Results No significant differences were noted between the two groups in the CIPN score, the Distress and Impact Thermometer score, and in safety behavior in daily life. The mean Self-Efficacy Scale for Advanced Cancer score at T1 differed between the two groups (CG mean ± SD: 358.44 ± 109.90; SMG mean ± SD: 421.21 ± 85.54), which was significantly higher in the SMG (P = 0.012). Two-way RMANOVA revealed an interaction between the CG and SMG (F = 5.689, P = 0.004). Quality of life scores were higher in the SMG than in the CG at T0, T1, and T2. Two-way RMANOVA analysis showed an effect of the intervention (F = 7.914, P = 0.007). Conclusions The self-monitoring intervention maintained the participants' quality of life. This finding suggests its effectiveness in patients with peripheral neuropathy.

Abstract
TB affects around 10.6 million people each year and there are now around 155 million TB survivors. TB and its treatments can lead to permanently impaired health and wellbeing. In 2019, representatives of TB affected communities attending the '1st International Post-Tuberculosis Symposium´ called for the development of clinical guidance on these issues. This clinical statement on post-TB health and wellbeing responds to this call and builds on the work of the symposium, which brought together TB survivors, healthcare professionals and researchers. Our document offers expert opinion and, where possible, evidence-based guidance to aid clinicians in the diagnosis and management of post-TB conditions and research in this field. It covers all aspects of post-TB, including economic, social and psychological wellbeing, post TB lung disease (PTLD), cardiovascular and pericardial disease, neurological disability, effects in adolescents and children, and future research needs.

Abstract
PURPOSE Chemotherapy-related polyneuropathy (CIPN) is a very common, often dose-limiting side effect that affects the patients' quality of life. Treatment usually consists of a combination of medicinal, medical, and individualized treatment approaches, although the effectiveness of these therapies is insufficient for many patients. The aim of this article is to review and evaluate the impact of CIPN on patients' daily lives and possible effective treatment approaches. METHODS A standardized questionnaire was developed based on ten anonymous telephone interviews with CIPN patients. The content of the questionnaire was divided into 5 categories: demographics, clinical presentation, everyday symptoms, treatment of CIPN symptoms, and medical care. Mostly closed questions were used but multiple choice and individual additions by free text answers were possible. RESULTS CIPN limits patients' quality of life over a long period of time. In addition to diurnal and situational fluctuations, the emotional burden negatively affects patients' daily lives in many ways. From the patients' point of view, the individually implemented therapy measures were most effective in treating their complaints. But even the combination of different therapy methods insufficiently alleviates the symptoms of the patients. CONCLUSION It is important and necessary to comprehensively inform patients about CIPN as a possible side effect, to point out prevention strategies, and to critically examine and evaluate different therapy approaches. In this way, misunderstandings of the doctor-patient relationship can be avoided. In addition, patient satisfaction and quality of life can be increased in the long term.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Therapies against breast cancer (BC) frequently involve complications that impair patients' daily function and quality of life, the most common of which are motor coordination and balance disorders, increasing the risk of falls and injuries. In such cases, physical activity is recommended. Designed following the PRISMA guidelines, this study presents a systematic review of randomised and pilot clinical trials investigating the effect of physical exercises on postural balance in women treated for BC. METHODS Scientific databases (PubMed, EBSCO) and the online resources of grey publications were searched for trial reports published between January 2002 and February 2022. The inclusion criteria necessitated full-text, English-language reports from randomised clinical trials (RCTs) or pilot clinical trials (pilot CTs), whose authors used physical exercises to treat women with BC and the experimental and control groups consisted of at least 10 women. The methodological quality of the RCTs and pilot CTs were measured using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale and the Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies (MINORS), respectively. Data were extracted on the effect of exercise on the women's static and dynamic balance. RESULTS Seven reports, five RCTs and two pilot CTs involving a total of 575 women (aged 18-83 years) were included in the systematic review. Their training protocols utilised a variety of aerobic, strength, endurance, sensorimotor, Pilates exercises, and fitness exercises with elements of soccer. The experimental groups usually worked out in fitness or rehabilitation centres under the supervision of physiotherapists or trainers. Training sessions of 30-150 min were held 2 or 3 times a week for 1.5-24 months. Most trials reported that static and dynamic balance in the experimental groups improved significantly more compared with the control groups. CONCLUSIONS Physical exercises are able to improve static and dynamic postural balance in women treated for BC. However, as all evidence in support of this conclusion comes from only two pilot CT and five RCTs whose methodologies varied widely, more high quality research is needed to validate their findings and determine which exercise protocols are the most effective in improving postural control in women with BC.

Abstract
PURPOSE We sought to evaluate the independent and interactive associations of planned treatment duration, celecoxib use, physical activity, body mass index (BMI), diabetes mellitus, and vitamin B6 with oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy (OIPN) among patients with stage III colon cancer enrolled in a clinical trial. METHODS We conducted a prospective, observational study of 2,450 patients with stage III colon cancer enrolled in the CALGB/SWOG 80702 trial, randomly assigned to 6 versus 12 cycles of adjuvant fluorouracil, leucovorin, and oxaliplatin chemotherapy with or without 3 years of celecoxib. OIPN was reported using the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) during and following completion of chemotherapy and the FACT/GOG-NTX-13 15-17 months after random assignment. Multivariate analyses were adjusted for baseline sociodemographic and clinical factors. RESULTS Patients assigned to 12 treatment cycles, relative to 6, were significantly more likely to experience higher-grade CTCAE- and FACT/GOG-NTX-13-reported neuropathy and longer times to resolution, while neither celecoxib nor vitamin B6 intake attenuated OIPN. Exercising ≥ 9 MET-hours per week after treatment relative to < 9 was associated with improvements in FACT/GOG-NTX-13-reported OIPN (adjusted difference in means, 1.47; 95% CI, 0.49 to 2.45; P = .003). Compared with patients with baseline BMIs < 25, those with BMIs ≥ 25 were at significantly greater risk of developing higher-grade CTCAE-reported OIPN during (adjusted odds ratio, 1.18; 95% CI, 1.00 to 1.40; P = .05) and following completion (adjusted odds ratio, 1.23; 95% CI, 1.01 to 1.50; P = .04) of oxaliplatin treatment. Patients with diabetes were significantly more likely to experience worse FACT/GOG-NTX-13-reported neuropathy relative to those without (adjusted difference in means, -2.0; 95% CI, -3.3 to -0.73; P = .002). There were no significant interactions between oxaliplatin treatment duration and any of these potentially modifiable exposures. CONCLUSION Lower physical activity, higher BMI, diabetes, and longer planned treatment duration, but not celecoxib use or vitamin B6 intake, may be associated with significantly increased OIPN severity.

Abstract
PURPOSE Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neurotoxicity (CIPN) is a common dose-limiting toxicity of cancer treatment causing functional impairment and impacting quality of life. Effective prevention and treatment of CIPN are lacking, and CIPN risk factors remain ill-defined. Metabolic syndrome and associated conditions have emerged as potential risk factors, due to their high prevalence and independent association with nerve dysfunction. This systematic review aimed to investigate the association between these common metabolic-lifestyle factors and CIPN. METHODS Searches were undertaken using Medline, Embase, CINAHL, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, with additional studies identified from bibliographic references cited by original and review articles. Articles that analyzed metabolic-lifestyle risk factors associated with CIPN for patients treated with platinum- or taxane-based chemotherapy were included. RESULTS Searches identified 6897 titles; 44 articles had full text review, with 26 studies included. Overall incidence of neuropathy ranged from 16.9 to 89.4%. Obesity had the most consistent patient-oriented evidence as a risk factor for CIPN, with moderate evidence suggesting diabetes did not increase CIPN incidence or severity. A limited number of studies supported an association with low physical activity and greater CIPN risk. CONCLUSIONS Comorbidities and lifestyle factors, particularly obesity and low physical activity, may contribute to the development of CIPN. The implementation of sensitive outcome measures in large-scale clinical trials is required to further elucidate CIPN risk factors and evaluate if changes in lifestyle would improve long-term CIPN outcomes for cancer survivors. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Better understanding of CIPN risk profiles may inform personalized medicine strategies and help elucidate pathophysiological mechanisms which could be targeted for neuroprotection.

Abstract
AIM There are many barriers to physical activity among cancer survivors. Survivors treated with neurotoxic chemotherapy may develop chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) and experience additional barriers related to sensorimotor and mobility deficits. This study examined physical activity behaviors, including physical activity predictors, among cancer survivors treated with neurotoxic chemotherapies. METHODS A cross-sectional study of 252 participants, 3-24 months after neurotoxic chemotherapy, was undertaken. Physical activity was self-reported (IPAQ). CIPN was self-reported (FACT/GOG-Ntx-13), clinically graded (NCI-CTCAE), and objectively measured using neurological grading scales and neurophysiological techniques (tibial and sural nerve conduction studies). Balance (Swaymeter) and fine motor skills (grooved pegboard) were assessed. Regression models were used to identify clinical, demographic and CIPN predictors of walking and moderate-vigorous physical activity. RESULTS Forty-four percent of participants did not meet recommended physical activity guidelines (≥150 min/week). Sixty-six percent presented with CIPN. Nineteen percent of participants with CIPN reported that symptoms interfered with their ability to be physically active. A lower proportion of survivors aged ≥60, with grade ≥1 CIPN or BMI ≥30, reported meeting physical activity guidelines (all p < .05). Regression models identified older age, higher BMI, and patient-reported CIPN associated with lower walking, while higher BMI and females were associated with lower moderate-vigorous physical activity. Neurologically assessed CIPN did not associate with walking or moderate-vigorous physical activity. CONCLUSION Cancer survivors exposed to neurotoxic chemotherapy have low physical activity levels. Further work should examine the factors causing physical activity limitations in this cohort and designing interventions to improve physical function and quality of life in survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) can result in functional difficulties. Pharmacological interventions used to prevent CIPN either show low efficacy or lack evidence to support their use and to date, duloxetine remains the only recommended treatment for painful CIPN. Non-pharmacological interventions such as exercise and behavioural interventions for CIPN exist. PURPOSE The aims were to (1) identify and appraise evidence on existing behavioural and exercise interventions focussed on preventing or managing CIPN symptoms, (2) describe psychological mechanisms of action by which interventions influenced CIPN symptoms, (3) determine the underpinning conceptual models that describe how an intervention may create behaviour change, (4) identify treatment components of each intervention and contextual factors, (5) determine the nature and extent of patient and clinician involvement in developing existing interventions and (6) summarise the relative efficacy or effectiveness of interventions to lessen CIPN symptoms and to improve quality of life, balance and muscle strength. METHODS A systematic search of Ovid Medline, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Health Management Information Consortium, Global Health and CINAHL was performed to identify articles published between January 2000 to May 2020, followed by OpenGrey search and hand-searching of relevant journals. Studies that explored behavioural and/or exercise interventions designed to prevent or improve symptoms of CIPN in adults who had received or were receiving neurotoxic chemotherapy for any type of cancer, irrespective of when delivered within the cancer pathway were included. RESULTS Nineteen randomised controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies which explored behavioural (n=6) and exercise (n=13) interventions were included. Four studies were rated as methodologically strong, ten were moderate and five were weak. Ten exercise and two behavioural interventions, including those that improved CIPN knowledge and self-management resources and facilitated symptom self-reporting, led to reduced CIPN symptoms during and/or after chemotherapy treatment. CONCLUSIONS The extent of potential benefits from the interventions was difficult to judge, due to study limitations. Future interventions should incorporate a clear theoretical framework and involve patients and clinicians in the development process. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Our findings show exercise interventions have beneficial effects on CIPN symptoms although higher quality research is warranted. Behavioural interventions that increase patient's CIPN knowledge, improve self-management capacity and enable timely access to symptom management led to reduced CIPN symptoms.

Abstract
Background: Most individuals affected by cancer who are treated with certain chemotherapies suffer of CIPN. Therefore, there is a high patient and provider interest in complementary non-pharmacological therapies, but its evidence base has not yet been clearly pointed out in the context of CIPN. Methods: The results of a scoping review overviewing the published clinical evidence on the application of complementary therapies for improving the complex CIPN symptomatology are synthesized with the recommendations of an expert consensus process aiming to draw attention to supportive strategies for CIPN. The scoping review, registered at PROSPERO 2020 (CRD 42020165851), followed the PRISMA-ScR and JBI guidelines. Relevant studies published in Pubmed/MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PEDro, Cochrane CENTRAL, and CINAHL between 2000 and 2021 were included. CASP was used to evaluate the methodologic quality of the studies. Results: Seventy-five studies with mixed study quality met the inclusion criteria. Manipulative therapies (including massage, reflexology, therapeutic touch), rhythmical embrocations, movement and mind-body therapies, acupuncture/acupressure, and TENS/Scrambler therapy were the most frequently analyzed in research and may be effective treatment options for CIPN. The expert panel approved 17 supportive interventions, most of them were phytotherapeutic interventions including external applications and cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, and tactile stimulation. More than two-thirds of the consented interventions were rated with moderate to high perceived clinical effectiveness in therapeutic use. Conclusions: The evidence of both the review and the expert panel supports a variety of complementary procedures regarding the supportive treatment of CIPN; however, the application on patients should be individually weighed in each case. Based on this meta-synthesis, interprofessional healthcare teams may open up a dialogue with patients interested in non-pharmacological treatment options to tailor complementary counselling and treatments to their needs.

Abstract
(1) Background: Strong evidence supports the persuasive positive effects of exercise for cancer patients and survivors. Different approaches of exercise programs have been established; however, the special interests of young adults (YAs) with cancer have rarely been considered in exercise interventions. Therefore, the study YOUng EXercisers (YOUEX) aimed to investigate exercise preferences in YAs. (2) Methods: YOUEX was a three-arm, patient preference-based non-randomized, longitudinal, pre-post exercise intervention, offering three different exercise modules to YAs during or after acute therapy (Module 1: online supervised group-based (M1); Module 2: online unsupervised (M2); Module 3: in-person supervised (M3)). The intervention period was 12 weeks with another 12-week follow-up period, the modules could be changed or amended after 6 and 12 weeks. (3) Results: 92 YAs were allocated to the study. At baseline, 50 YAs (54%) chose M2, 32 YAs (35%) M1 and 10 YAs (11%) M3. The analysis revealed high acceptability and feasibility of the online exercise programs (M1, M2). There was a high impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the execution of M3. YAs showed diverse preferences in module selection due to differences in, e.g., cancer therapy status or favored level of supervision. (4) Conclusions: YAs need personalized exercise programs that consider their individual interests and needs. Online exercise programs can be a promising addition to existing exercise opportunities. They are an effective way to increase physical activity levels in YAs.
