Abstract
This narrative review aimed to identify young cancer survivors' behaviours, experiences, and perspectives concerning physical activity, and identify useful strategies for promoting a healthy lifestyle. A manual search on the following databases was conducted: PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. The search was conducted between June 1, 2023, and April 12, 2024. Articles published from database inception up to April 12, 2024, were retrieved. Articles published in any language were considered. Perspectives including ideas, perceived barriers, and facilitators have been identified. Young cancer survivors seem to engage in physical activity as a useful coping strategy to regain normality and keep healthy after the cancer diagnosis. Although emotional and social support seems fundamental to increase participation, several other factors, including physical limitations, fatigue, sex, cancer type, and socio-economic status can influence physical activity participation. For those engaged in physical activity, the preferred activities are walking, biking, going to the gym, and exercising at home, while the least preferred are exercising at the hospital or boot camp-based exercises. Yoga is more frequently chosen by those still under treatment. Young cancer survivors appear to have unique needs different from those of adult cancer survivors. Mode of treatment delivery, increased awareness concerning the effects of physical activity, including families and friends, connecting survivors, and providing social support together with increasing motivation are key strategies for the promotion of physical activity in young cancer survivors. Fitness and healthcare professionals should consider these aspects to increase young cancer survivors' involvement in physical activities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With 5-year survival rates > 85%, gaining insight into the long-term and late health-related conditions of cancer survivors diagnosed in adolescence and young adulthood is of utmost importance to improve their quantity and quality of survival. This study examined the prevalence of and factors associated with, patient-reported health-related conditions and their latency times among long-term adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors. METHODS AYA cancer survivors (5-20 years after diagnosis) were identified by the population-based Netherlands Cancer Registry (NCR), and invited to participate in the SURVAYA questionnaire study. Participants reported the prevalence and date of diagnosis of health-related conditions. Clinical data were retrieved from the NCR. RESULTS Three thousand seven hundred seventy-six AYA cancer survivors (response rate 33.4%) were included for analyses. More than half of the AYAs (58.5%) experienced health-related conditions after their cancer diagnosis, of whom 51.4% were diagnosed with two or more conditions. Participants reported conditions related to vision (15.0%), digestive system (15.0%), endocrine system (14.1%), cardiovascular system (11.7%), respiratory system (11.3%), urinary tract system (10.9%), depression (8.6%), hearing (7.4%), arthrosis (6.9%), secondary malignancy (6.4%), speech-, taste and smell (4.5%), and rheumatoid arthritis (2.1%). Time since diagnosis, tumor type, age at diagnosis, and educational level were most frequently associated with a health-related condition. CONCLUSIONS A significant proportion of long-term AYA cancer survivors report having one or more health-related conditions. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Future research should focus on better understanding the underlying mechanisms of, and risk factors for, these health-related conditions to support the development and implementation of risk-stratified survivorship care for AYA cancer survivors to further improve their outcomes. Abstract
BACKGROUND Childhood cancer survivors (CCS) are subject to a substantial burden of treatment-related morbidity. Engaging in health protective behaviors and eliminating risk behaviors are critical to preventing chronic diseases and premature deaths. This study is aimed to provide updated information on currently smoking, physical inactivity, binge drinking patterns and associated factors among CCS using a nationwide dataset. METHODS We constructed a sample of CCS (cancer diagnosis at ages < 21y) and healthy controls (matched on age, sex, residency, race/ethnicity) using 2020 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. We used Chi-square tests and Wilcoxon rank-sum test to examine differences in sociodemographics and clinical characteristics between two groups. Logistic, ordinal regression and multivariable models (conditional models for matching) were used to determine factors associated with risk behaviors. RESULTS The final sample (18-80y) included 372 CCS and 1107 controls. Compared to controls, CCS had a similar proportion of binge drinking (~ 18%) but higher prevalence of currently smoking (26.6% vs. 14.4%, p < 0.001), physical inactivity (23.7% vs. 17.7%, p = 0.012), and of having 2-or-3 risk behaviors (17.2% vs. 8.1%, p < 0.001). Younger age, lower educational attainment, and having multiple chronic health conditions were associated with engaging in more risk behaviors among CCS. Females, compared to male counterparts, had lower odds of binge drinking (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 0.30, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.16-0.57) among CCS but not in all sample. Having multiple chronic health conditions increased odds of both currently smoking (aOR = 3.52 95%CI: 1.76-7.02) and binge drinking (aOR = 2.13 95%CI: 1.11-4.08) among CCS while it only increased odds of currently smoking in all sample. DISCUSSION Our study provided risk behavior information for wide age-range CCS, which is currently lacking. Every one in four CCS was currently smoking. Interventions targeting risk behavior reduction should focus on CCS with multiple chronic health conditions.

Abstract
PURPOSE For adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors with a good prognosis, having a healthy lifestyle prevents morbidity and mortality after treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of (un)healthy lifestyle behaviors and related determinants in AYA cancer survivors. METHODS A population-based, cross-sectional study was performed among long-term (5-20 years) AYA cancer survivors (18-39 years old at diagnosis) registered within the Netherlands Cancer Registry. Self-reported questionnaires data about health behaviors were used to calculate the 2018 World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research (WCRF/AICR) adherence score. Associations between the score and clinical/sociodemographic determinants of (un)healthy behaviors were investigated using logistic regression models. RESULTS The mean WCRF/AICR score was low to moderate, 3.8 ± 1.2 (0.5-7.0) (n = 3668). Sixty-one percent adhered to "limit the consumption of sugar sweetened drinks," 28% to "be a healthy weight," 25% to "fruit and vegetable consumption," and 31% to "limit alcohol consumption." Moderate and high adherence were associated with being a woman (ORmoderate = 1.46, 95% CI = 1.14-1.85, and ORhigh = 1.87, 95% CI = 1.46-2.4) and highly educated (ORmoderate = 1.54, 95% CI = 1.30-1.83, and ORhigh = 1.87, 95% CI = 1.46-2.4). Low adherence was associated with smoking (ORmoderate = 0.68, 95% CI = 0.50-0.92, and ORhigh = 0.30, 95% CI = 0.21-0.44) and diagnosis of germ cell tumor (ORmoderate = 0.58, 95% CI = 0.39-0.86, and ORhigh = 0.45, 95% CI = 0.30-0.69). CONCLUSIONS Adherence to the 2018 WCRF/AICR lifestyle recommendations was low to moderate, especially regarding body weight, fruit, vegetables, and alcohol consumption. Men, current smokers, lower-educated participants, and/or those diagnosed with germ cell tumors were less likely to have a healthy lifestyle. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Health-promotion programs (e.g., age-specific tools) are needed, focusing on high-risk groups.

Abstract
PURPOSE This scoping review describes the assessment methodologies for physical activity (PA) and physical fitness assessments used in studies focusing on adolescents and young adults (AYAs) diagnosed with cancer. METHODS A search of the literature was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library following the PRISMA-ScR statement. A total of 34 studies were included in this review. RESULTS PA was primarily assessed via self-reported questionnaires (30/34) either completed in-person (n = 17) or online (n = 13) at different time points and different stages along the cancer trajectory (i.e., from diagnosis onward). A total of 9 studies conducted a physical fitness assessment. CONCLUSIONS PA and physical fitness measurements are key when trying to describe outcomes, assess for associations, track changes, measure intervention adherence, and test intervention efficacy and effectiveness. Considerable heterogeneity across studies was reported limiting the generation of formal recommendations or guidance for researchers, healthcare providers, and policy makers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Most physical activity (PA) interventions in young adult cancer survivors (YACS) have focused on short-term outcomes without evaluating longer-term outcomes and PA maintenance. This study examined the effects of an mHealth PA intervention at 12 months, after 6 months of tapered contacts, relative to a self-help group among 280 YACS. METHODS YACS participated in a 12-month randomized trial that compared self-help and intervention groups. All participants received an activity tracker, smart scale, individual videochat session, and access to a condition-specific Facebook group. Intervention participants also received lessons, tailored feedback, adaptive goal setting, text messages, and Facebook prompts for 6 months, followed by tapered contacts. Accelerometer-measured and self-reported PA (total [primary outcome], moderate-to-vigorous [MVPA], light, steps, sedentary behaviors) were collected at baseline, 6, and 12 months. Generalized estimating equation analyses evaluated group effects on outcomes from baseline to 12 months. RESULTS From baseline to 12 months, there were no between- or within-group differences in accelerometer-measured total PA min/week, while increases in self-reported total PA were greater in the intervention versus self-help group (mean difference = +55.8 min/week [95% CI, 6.0-105.6], p = 0.028). Over 12 months, both groups increased accelerometer-measured MVPA (intervention: +22.5 min/week [95% CI, 8.8-36.2] vs. self-help: +13.9 min/week [95% CI, 3.0-24.9]; p = 0.34), with no between-group differences. Both groups maintained accelerometer-measured and self-reported PA (total, MVPA) from 6 to 12 months. At 12 months, more intervention participants reported meeting national PA guidelines than self-help participants (47.9% vs. 33.1%, RR = 1.45, p = 0.02). CONCLUSION The intervention was not more effective than the self-help group at increasing accelerometer-measured total PA over 12 months. Both groups maintained PA from 6 to 12 months. Digital approaches have potential for promoting sustained PA participation in YACS, but additional research is needed to identify what strategies work for whom, and under what conditions.

Abstract
Significance: Elevated survival rates in young adult cancer survivors (YACS) are accompanied by high morbidity levels resulting in an array of unmet needs limiting full life potential. Physical activity (PA) improves physical, psychological, and social aspects of health after a cancer diagnosis. There are no standardized PA guidelines tailored to YACS. Therefore, there is a critical need to understand areas of clinical relevance/agreement on PA use and implementation in young adult (YA) survivorship care. Aim: To identify expert consensus areas on the assessment, prescription, and implementation of PA in YA survivorship care; identify areas of clinical relevance and endorsement of PA as a health optimization strategy in YA survivorship care. Methods: A four-round modified Delphi study of international multidisciplinary experts (Round I/II n = 18; Round III n = 57, Round IV n = 45) in exercise oncology, symptom management, survivorship care, youth cancer care was conducted. Qualitative content analysis, descriptive statistics (% agreement, standard deviation, mean), and inter-rater reliability (Kappa) were calculated. Results: Experts reached a consensus on clinical providers needed to assess, refer, and provide PA interventions, the need for guidelines, and essential care delivery system components to foster the integration of PA integration in YA survivorship care as a health optimization activity. Conclusions/Implications: Cancer care integration models should optimize the unique preferences, strengths, and developmental stage of YA affected by cancer. The study adds to the existing literature on multidisciplinary teams needed to provide clinical expertise and organizational support to foster PA integration into YA survivorship care.

Significance: Cancer treatment impacts young adults' (YA) biological and psychosocial health, with over >50% reporting unmet needs. Physical activity (PA) offers symptom mitigation, risk reduction, and critical independence to YA (age 18-39 years) affected by cancer. When tailored to YA, PA guidelines can facilitate PA integration into survivorship care. However, no current expert consensus on PA use in YA exists. Aim: To describe expert consensus and opinions on the application of PA as a biopsychosocial health promotion strategy for YA cancer survivors, guided by the Revised Symptom Management Theory. Methods: A four-round modified Delphi study was conducted with international multidisciplinary experts (round I/II, n = 18; round III, n = 57; round IV, n = 45) in exercise oncology, symptom management, survivorship care, and adolescent-YA cancer care. Qualitative content analysis, descriptive statistics (% agreement, SD, mean), and inter-rater reliability (Kappa) were calculated. Results: Experts reached a consensus on the following: PA should be integrated into YA cancer care as part of supportive oncology to mitigate symptoms of fatigue, cardiometabolic health, muscle mass loss, altered body composition, and anxiety/depression; PA improves functional capacity and wellbeing; at all points on the care continuum YA should be asked if they would like guidance on PA use; PA interventions should be tailored for personal facilitators, barriers, and motivations, to maximize survivorship adaptations. Conclusion/Implication: The results of this study identified areas of expert consensus that warrant PA implementation in YA survivorship care to guide future research and clinical endeavors.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Current knowledge of the long-term health behaviours and well-being of adolescent and yong adult (AYA) cancer survivors is limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the health behaviours of AYA cancer survivors compared to Australian normative data and describe their health-related quality of life (HR-QoL) and levels of fatigue. METHOD A cross-sectional online survey of participants aged 15-25 years at diagnosis and 2-7 years post treatment completion was conducted at a comprehensive cancer centre. Validated questionnaires assessed health behaviours and functioning including current physical activity (PA) levels, diet quality, fatigue (FACIT-F) and HR-QoL (AQoL-6D, Short Form 36v2 [SF-36v2]) were compared to Australian normative data. RESULTS Ninety individuals completed the survey (26% response rate) with a mean age of 25.4 years and median time post treatment of 61 months (24-85 months). Compared to normative data, a higher proportion of AYA cancer survivors was consuming the recommended daily serves of fruit and vegetables (16.7% vs. 3.9%, p < .0001), had a lower presence of overweight or obesity (46.7% vs. 57.7%, p = .04) and lower percentage of current smokers (2.2% vs. 16.7%, p < .0001). However, AYA cancer survivors reported increased fatigue (t[df = 596] = -4.1, p < .0001) and reduced HR-QoL compared to normative data (t[df = 533] = 9.2, p < .0001) along with a higher proportion suffering from one or more chronic health conditions (65% vs. 40%, p < .0001). CONCLUSION AYA cancer survivors from a single Australian institution, who were on average 5 years post treatment, exhibited better health behaviours compared to Australian normative data, but still below recommended guidelines. However, they continue to experience issues with fatigue and reduced HR-QoL, especially in those not meeting the PA guidelines.

Abstract
Adolescents and young adults with cancer have an estimated 5-year overall survival rate of more than 75%. It can be difficult to immediately return to a "normal" life after cancer therapy because of a range of physical and psychosocial effects associated not only to the disease but also to late effects that can extend long into survivorship. Adolescents and young adult cancer survivors in the United States are more prone to several adverse treatment effects than those who had no history of cancer. A multidisciplinary health-care team that is well versed in caring for specific developmental issues, as well as addressing onco-fertility, psychosocial and socioeconomic issues, school and work obligations, and long-term side effects is important to meet the needs of this population.

Abstract
Objectives: Having cancer in young adulthood increases the risk of adverse long-term health effects. These risks can be influenced by one's health behavior (HB). The aim of this study is therefore to investigate the presence of health behavior in adolescents and young adults (AYAs) and to identify associated factors. Design: Young cancer patients (18-39 years old at time of diagnosis) were surveyed at baseline and 12 months later via online or as a paper-pencil version. Methods: A spectrum of indicators for HB was assessed via seven items from the Questionnaire of Multiple Health Behavior (MHB). Multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to determine factors associated with patients' HB indicators. Results: Five-hundred and fourteen AYAs (75% women) reported the highest level of health-conscious behavior for "avoidance of consumption of nicotine," "follow medical recommendations," and "being considerate in road traffic." Less health-conscious behavior was reported for "keeping an appropriate and balanced diet" and "physical activity." Significant improvements from baseline to the follow-up were observed for "regularly attending health screening" (Hedges' g = 0.44). The analyzed factors explained up to 10% of the HB indicators. Women reported significantly more health-conscious behavior than men in four out of seven HB indicators. Higher quality of life (QoL) was associated with more health behavior in three out of seven HB indicators. Conclusion: Findings show a predominantly health-conscious lifestyle in AYA cancer patients, though we also found harmful behavior which needs to be better approached-e.g., through improving AYAs' health education. AYA men should be particularly targeted in specific prevention and health promotion measures. Future work should identify other factors associated with HB to evaluate targets for intervention.

Abstract
Purpose: In Europe, 20,000 Adolescent and Young Adults (AYAs) aged 15-25 years are diagnosed with cancer annually. Although prognosis is good, AYA cancer survivors are at greater risk of second primary cancers, cardiovascular disease, and various long-term effects. Benefits of physical activity (PA) in AYAs reported in current studies remain difficult to generalize; none has been performed in France. This single-arm intervention study tested the feasibility of combining hospital-based supervised and home-based unsupervised physical activity sessions (PAS) and providing cancer prevention recommendations for AYAs. Methods: The AYAs attended PAS concomitant to treatment and participated in one face-to-face prevention interview. PA (international physical activity questionnaire), 6-min walk distance (6MWD), sedentarity, anthropometrics, quality of life (QoL), and fatigue were assessed at baseline (T1) and end of intervention (T2). PA, satisfaction and cancer prevention behaviors were assessed 1 year after baseline (T3). Results: Fifty-nine AYAs (mean 19 years) participated in the study. Acceptability and attrition were 80% and 12%, respectively. Between T1 and T2, 6MWD and global QoL improved (p < 0.001), and fatigue decreased (p = 0.003). Total PA improved and sitting time decreased (p < 0.001) overall (T1-T3). Assessment at T3 showed interindividual differences in how participants considered risk factors (e.g., more attention to PA, UV exposures, nutrition). Conclusion: Combined supervised and unsupervised home-based PAS in AYAs undergoing cancer treatment is acceptable and feasible. The program contributes to maintaining and improving physical fitness and QoL, while reducing fatigue and other cancer and treatment symptoms. Larger randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these results.

Abstract
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION Physical activity, a precision health strategy, positively affects biopsychosocial health in adult cancer survivors. However, understanding its effects among young adult (YA) cancer survivors is limited. The purpose of this scoping review was to explore existing research on physical activity in YA cancer survivors. LITERATURE SEARCH CINAHL®, PubMed®, PsycINFO®, SPORTDiscus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were searched, producing 63 articles and 28 grey materials. DATA EVALUATION Data extraction, guided by the revised symptom management model, included research aims, sample, design, primary outcome measures, and effects of physical activity. SYNTHESIS Findings of 35 review articles were reported under three main categories. IMPLICATIONS FOR RESEARCH Lack of clinical guidelines and limited research specific to YA cancer survivors hinders physical activity's use as a symptom management strategy. Research is needed that addresses the development and clinical implementation of physical activity guidelines.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate lifestyle in a population-based sample of long-term (≥ 5 years since diagnosis) young adult cancer survivors (YACSs), and explore factors associated with not meeting the lifestyle guidelines for physical activity (PA), body mass index (BMI), and smoking. METHODS YACSs (n = 3558) diagnosed with breast cancer (BC), colorectal cancer (CRC), non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), or localized malignant melanoma (MM) between the ages of 19 and 39 years and treated between 1985 and 2009 were invited to complete a mailed questionnaire. Survivors of localized MM treated with limited skin surgery served as a reference group for treatment burden. RESULTS In total, 1488 YACSs responded (42%), and 1056 YACSs were evaluable and included in the present study (74% females, average age at survey 49 years, average 15 years since diagnosis). Forty-four percent did not meet PA guidelines, 50% reported BMI ≥ 25 and 20% smoked, with no statistically significant differences across diagnostic groups. Male gender, education ≤ 13 years, comorbidity, lymphedema, pain, chronic fatigue, and depressive symptoms were associated with not meeting single and/or an increasing number of lifestyle guidelines. CONCLUSION A large proportion of long-term YACSs do not meet the lifestyle guidelines for PA, BMI, and/or smoking. Non-adherence to guidelines is associated with several late effects and/or comorbidities that should be considered when designing lifestyle interventions for YACSs.

Abstract
PURPOSE Multiple health behaviours (not smoking, minimal alcohol consumption, and maintaining a healthy weight by having a healthy diet and regular physical activity) improve quality of life and longevity of cancer survivors. Despite international guidelines, there are no existing reviews that synthesise cancer survivors' adherence to healthy lifestyle recommendations. METHOD Five databases (Embase, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Web of Science, and Google Scholar) were searched for relevant articles published from 2007 until January 2018. Studies reporting adult cancer survivors' adherence to at least two lifestyle behaviours (body mass index, physical activity, smoking, fruit and vegetable intake, fiber intake, red meat intake, caloric intake, sodium intake, and alcohol consumption) based on the World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research (WCRF/AICR) recommendations were included in the review. The pooled prevalence of adherence to single and multiple behaviours was calculated using a random-effects model. Subgroup analysis (mean years of survival and publication year) was undertaken. RESULTS A total of 3322 articles were identified. Of these, 51 studies matched the inclusion criteria, presenting data from 2,620,586 adult cancer survivors. Adherence to single behaviours, which was estimated from studies that assessed at least two health behaviours, was highest for not smoking (PE 87%; 95% CI, 85%, 88%) and low or no alcohol intake (PE 83%; 95% CI, 81%, 86%), and lowest for fiber intake (PE 31%; 95% CI, 21%, 40%). Adherence to multiple healthy behaviours (13 studies), ranged from 7 to 40% (pooled estimate (PE) 23%; 95% CI, 17%, 30%). Recent survivors (< 5-year survival time) had relatively better adherence to multiple behaviours (PE 31%; 95% CI, 27%, 35%) than long-term (> 5 years) survivors (PE 25%; 95% CI, 14%, 36%). Adherence to multiple behaviours improved over time since 2007. CONCLUSION Adherence to physical activity, dietary, and multiple lifestyle behaviours recommendations was low amongst cancer survivors. Recent cancer survivors were relatively more adherent to WCRF/AICR recommendations compared to long-term survivors. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Health promotion programs help support healthy lifestyle behaviours of cancer survivors. PROSPERO registration number: CRD42018091663.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Survivors of childhood cancer are at increased risk of lifestyle influenced health issues. We sought to understand the association between stages of change (SOC) and psychosocial variables related to modifiable health behaviors: physical activity (PA), dietary fat intake, and intake of fruits and vegetables among adolescents and young adults at different phases of cancer therapy. METHODS We conducted an exploratory cross-sectional survey of adolescents and young adults currently being treated for cancer or who are survivors of childhood cancer. We evaluated SOC and several psychosocial variables using the previously validated Patient-Centered Assessment and Counseling for Exercise (PACE+): Physical Activity and Diet Surveys for Adolescents tool. Current dietary behaviors were evaluated with 24 hr diet recall. RESULTS One hundred and eighteen patients participated in the survey. SOC did not vary by phase of treatment. Ethnicity and body mass index were strongly associated with SOC for PA, but not for dietary behaviors. There was a significant association between SOC and self-efficacy, knowledge of strategies, and family or friend support for PA, dietary fat, and fruits and vegetables. Higher self-efficacy and family support were significant variables impacting SOC and participants' reported intake of fruits and vegetables servings. CONCLUSION We demonstrate that SOC for the investigated behaviors did not change based on phase of treatment, supporting the initiation of lifestyle interventions early on in treatment. We identify several psychosocial variables that may act as important targets for future lifestyle interventions aimed to improve dietary and exercise behaviors in adolescents and young adults with cancer and survivors.

Abstract
AIM The aim was to evaluate the association between age at menarche and cancer using a nationally representative sample of Brazilian women. METHODS Data from the Brazilian Health Survey (PNS), a nationally representative survey conducted in 2013 (n = 33,715 women; ≥18 years), were used. Information on cancer diagnosis, age at menarche and other co-variables (chronological age, educational status, skin colour, menopause, leisure-time physical activity and tobacco smoking) were collected via interview. Logistic regression models were used for aetiological analyses. RESULTS The prevalence of cancer diagnosis was greater among women with early age at menarche [2.6% (2.0-3.5%)] compared to on-time [1.6% (1.4-1.9%)] and late women [2.0% (1.1-3.4%)]. The onset of menarche ≤11 years was significantly associated with cancer risk, regardless of co-variables [OR =2.45 (1.34-4.48)], compared to the late group. CONCLUSION Early age at menarche was associated with cancer risk in adulthood, regardless of race, educational status, chronological age, obesity, menopause onset, tobacco smoking or physical activity.

Abstract
PURPOSE Our goals were to evaluate young adult lymphoma survivors' perceptions regarding benefits of exercise after cancer treatment, to identify barriers to exercise, and to understand the types of exercise interventions that may be useful in this patient population. METHODS Young adult lymphoma survivors were invited to participate in a survey and focus group. Questions focused on elucidating barriers to exercise as well as potential opportunities for supporting patients in adequate exercise. Focus groups were audiorecorded and transcribed, and data were coded inductively for themes and applied findings. RESULTS Eight survivors participated. Findings were categorized into five main themes: barriers to exercise, facilitators of exercise, personal responsibility for being active, interconnectedness of exercise with a healthy lifestyle, and recommendations. CONCLUSIONS Fatigue and frustration with postcancer physical limitations are major barriers to exercise for young adult survivors, whereas support from others, data tracking, and survivor-specific resources are facilitators. Interventions that incorporate fitness tracking technology, are individually tailored, and/or create a community with other young adult survivors may be successful in this population.

Abstract
Health promotion is an important component of long-term follow-up (LTFU) care for childhood cancer survivors (CCS). However, little information exists about how survivors perceive their own health promotion needs. As part of a service evaluation, 51 CCS who had previously attended the LTFU clinic took part in a single semistructured interview to seek their views on information they had received regarding late adverse effects (LAEs) of treatment, the purpose of LTFU, and the provision of health promotion information. Although most (93%) CCS were satisfied with the information received about LAEs, 37% desired further details. Over half (59%) believed that the purpose of LTFU was to screen for LAEs, whereas 31% felt that it was to check for relapse. No survivor reported health promotion to be an aim of LTFU; only 14% of CCS expected to receive healthy lifestyle advice, and fewer than 10% wanted dietary and physical activity advice. Most (88%) CCS felt that their hospital-based health care professional was best placed to give healthy lifestyle advice, but there was no consensus about the optimum timing for health promotion. CCS varied in their knowledge, needs, and wishes regarding LTFU care. The results of this evaluation strongly indicate that the profile of health promotion needs to be raised within our service and identifies issues that may be pertinent to similar services. Further research is needed to understand the views of CCS regarding health promotion and lifestyle behaviors, with the aim of tailoring and improving the delivery of effective health education to CCS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We used a mixed-methods approach to examine health behavior profiles of young adult cancer survivors and characterize related sociodemographic and psychosocial factors. METHODS We conducted a mail-based survey assessing sociodemographics, cancer treatment, health behaviors (e.g., tobacco use, physical activity), healthcare provider interactions, and psychosocial factors (e.g., Profile of Moods States [POMS]) among 106 young adult survivors from a southeastern cancer center and semi-structured interviews among a subset of 26. RESULTS A k-means cluster analysis using eight health behaviors yielded three distinct health behavior profiles: high risk (n = 25), moderate risk (n = 39), and low risk (n = 40). High risks had the highest current alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana use; physical activity; and number of sexual partners (p's < 0.001). They had higher symptoms of POMS tension-anxiety, depression-dejection, fatigue-inertia, and confusion-bewilderment (p's < 0.05). Moderate risks had lowest physical activity (p < 0.05) but otherwise had moderate health behaviors. Low risks had the lowest alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana use and fewest sexual partners (p's < 0.05). They had the lowest levels of tension-anxiety, depression-dejection, fatigue-inertia, and confusion-bewilderment (p's < 0.05). Qualitative interviews showed that cancer had a range of effects on health behaviors and variable experiences regarding how healthcare providers address these behaviors. CONCLUSIONS Assessing health behavior profiles, rather than individual health behaviors, is informative in characterizing young adult cancer survivors and targeting survivorship care. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Young adult cancer survivors demonstrate distinct health behavior profiles and are differentially impacted by the experience of cancer. Healthcare providers should be consistently intervening to ensure that survivors understand their specific health risks.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Childhood cancer survivors are at risk for late effects of therapy, some of which may be exacerbated by smoking, alcohol, or drug use. We undertook a meta-analysis of the literature to determine whether survivors engage in risk-taking behaviors at rates different from their peers/siblings. METHODS Studies comparing current engagement in risk-taking behaviors between cancer survivors and siblings or matched peers were identified in MEDLINE (1946-), EMBASE (1947-), PsychINFO (1806-), and the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register. Two reviewers assessed publications for inclusion and extracted data independently. Studies were combined using inverse variance weighting to determine odds ratios (OR) and prevalence rates of risk-taking behaviors in survivors compared to controls. RESULTS Fourteen of 1,713 studies satisfied inclusion criteria. Twelve assessed smoking, six binge drinking, and seven drug use. Among survivors, 22% (95% confidence interval 0.19, 0.26) smoked, 20% (0.08, 0.51) were binge drinkers, and 15% (0.10, 0.23) used drugs. Survivors were less likely than siblings to smoke (OR 0.68 [0.49, 0.96]) or binge drink (OR 0.77 [0.68, 0.88]), but similarly likely to use drugs (OR 0.33 [0.03, 3.28]). Survivors were less likely than matched peers to smoke (OR 0.54 [0.42, 0.70]) or use drugs (OR 0.57 [0.40, 0.82]), but equally likely to binge drink (OR 0.97 [0.38, 2.49]). CONCLUSIONS Childhood cancer survivors engage in similar or lower rates of risk taking than their siblings/peers. Future studies should identify survivors most likely to benefit from focused interventions, and determine the impact of risk-taking behaviors on the risk for late effects of cancer therapy.

Abstract
Background: Research on cancer rehabilitation targeting young adult cancer survivors (YACS) is limited, and little is known about the positive health outcomes of rehabilitation programs tailored specifically for this vulnerable group. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate whether a complex rehabilitation program improved the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and physical capacities of YACS. Methods: A longitudinal prospective study using Norwegian norm-based comparisons was conducted. Twenty YACS (24–35 years old) with different cancer diagnoses participated in a complex rehabilitation program lasting for 6 months, focusing on goal setting, exercise, psychoeducation, individual follow-up, and peer support. Results: Health-related quality of life was measured by EORTC QOL C-30 and the scores showed significant increases in overall HRQOL (P < .005–.001) and all functional dimensions (P < .001–.05) and a decrease in fatigue (P < .000–.05) and effect sizes between 0.72 and 1.30. Significant changes occurred within physical fitness (P < .005), lung capacity (P < .05), and left-hand strength (P < .001), but not right-hand strength and body mass index, with effect sizes between −0.04 and 0.48. The values of HRQOL were stable after a 1-year follow-up. Conclusions: A complex cancer rehabilitation program especially tailored for YACS seems to build positive health outcomes such as HRQOL and physical capacity in a long-term perspective. The content and structure of the program were feasible with high compliance. The results underline the importance of targeting rehabilitation interventions to YACS in need after cancer treatment, acknowledging rehabilitation as a process that requires adequate time and follow-up. Implications for practice: Healthcare providers should be aware of YACS’ symptom burden and monitor HRQOL and physical parameters to ascertain holistic cancer survivorship care.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study uses qualitative methods to identify barriers to and facilitators of exercise and healthy eating among adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors (survivors currently aged 18-39 years and diagnosed with cancer anytime in their lives), as reported by survivors and their primary supporters. METHODS Survivors (M(age) = 27.6 years, SD = 6.6 years) had completed active cancer therapy. Survivors and supporters (i.e., nominated by survivors as someone who was a main source of support) attended separate focus group sessions (five survivor focus groups, five supporter focus groups) and were asked to complete a self-reported questionnaire assessing demographic and cancer history and engagement in exercise and healthy eating. RESULTS In total, 25 survivors and 19 supporters participated. The three overarching themes identified were barriers to exercise and healthy eating (e.g., lack of resources, negative thoughts and feelings, negative social and environmental influences), facilitators of exercise and healthy eating (e.g., cognitive motivators, tools for health behavior implementation, social relationships), and intervention implications (e.g., informational needs, desire for social support). CONCLUSION AYA cancer survivors and their supporters identified barriers to and facilitators of healthy lifestyle behaviors, which should be considered when designing interventions to improve the long-term health of survivors.

Abstract
PURPOSE Survivors of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer may engage in unhealthy lifestyles (e.g., smoking), potentially heightening their risk for long-term health problems. We assessed health behaviors and constructs including quality of life (QOL) and psychosocial well-being among survivors of AYA cancer compared to the general population. METHODS We used 2009 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data to evaluate health behaviors for survivors of AYA cancer compared to AYAs without cancer. Multivariable regressions assessed health behaviors (smoking, binge drinking, physical inactivity, and low fruit/vegetable intake) by sex and age between AYA survivors and controls, and among survivors to determine the effects of demographic, QOL, psychosocial, and cancer factors on behaviors. RESULTS A greater proportion of female survivors of AYA cancer smoked than controls (currently aged 20-39: 27 vs. 14.3%, respectively; currently aged 40-64: 29.3 vs. 18.4%, respectively). Generally, survivors and controls were non-adherent to national health behavior guidelines. Uninsured survivors were at greater risk of smoking vs. insured (females, Relative Risk (RR) = 1.64, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.43-1.90; males, RR = 2.62, 95% CI 1.71-4.02). Poor social/emotional support was associated with smoking (RR = 1.26, 95% CI 1.07-1.48) among female survivors and was associated with low fruit/vegetable intake among male (RR = 1.12, 95% CI 1.01-1.23) and female (RR= 1.12, 95% CI 1.05-1.19) survivors. Female survivors >10 years from diagnosis had higher risk of smoking (RR = 1.26-1.91, all p < 0.01) than survivors 5-10 years from diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS Unhealthy lifestyle behaviors are common in survivors of AYA cancer. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS AYA survivors require health behavior support.

Abstract
The purpose of this literature review is to make a point on the state of health of adolescents and young adults (15-25 years) suffering from cancer. The adaptation strategies and the impact of the announcement of cancer will be discussed. In addition, we are going to consider the characteristics of teenagers and young adults, given the fact that development is still in progress. This period is especially punctuated by various experiments and the emergence of some clinical signs. Also, we have identified various studies concerning the use of licit and illicit substances. Furthermore, we have taken interest in behavioral addictions, particularly cyber addiction. While trying to cross these variables with a population of teenagers and young adults in the context of somatic diseases, it occurred that this population was not well known and studied. The interest of this synthesis is to underline the importance to make future researches in these perspectives.

Abstract
PURPOSE Health behaviors and self-reported health are important for understanding cancer survivor health. However, there is a paucity of published research about how cancer survivors' health behaviors and self-rated health vary by sexual orientation. This study examined cancer survivors' health behaviors and self-reported health by sexual orientation. METHODS This study used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2001-2010. Self-reported health and cancer-related health behaviors were compared by sexual orientation. Propensity score adjustment was used to account for differences in age, race, education, gender and health insurance status. RESULTS Of the 602 survivors eligible for the study, 4.3% identified as sexual minorities. Sexual minorities were 2.6 times more likely to report a history of illicit drug use (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]=2.4, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.04, 5.35), and 60% less likely to report their current health status as good (aOR=0.40, 95% CI: 0.18, 0.89), compared to heterosexual cancer survivors. These disparities persisted even after adjustment for socio-demographic characteristics. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that sexual minority cancer survivors may be at greater risk for poorer outcomes after cancer than other survivors. A possible explanation for the observed differences involves minority stress. Future research should test stress as an explanation for these differences. However, using population-methods to achieve this goal requires larger samples of lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) cancer survivors.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare age-dependent changes in health status among childhood cancer survivors and a sibling cohort. METHODS Adult survivors of childhood cancer and siblings, all participants of the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study, completed three surveys assessing health status. At each of three time points, participants were classified as having poor outcomes in general health, mental health, function, or daily activities if they indicated moderate to extreme impairment. Generalized linear mixed models were used to compare survivors with siblings for each outcome as a function of age and to identify host- and treatment-related factors associated with age-dependent worsening health status. RESULTS Adverse health status outcomes were more frequent among survivors than siblings, with evidence of a steeper trajectory of age-dependent change among female survivors with impairment in at least one health status domain (P = .01). In adjusted models, survivors were more likely than siblings to report poor general health (prevalence ratio [PR], 2.37; 95% CI, 2.09 to 2.68), adverse mental health (PR, 1.66; 95% CI, 1.52 to 1.80), functional impairment (PR, 4.53; 95% CI, 3.91 to 5.24), activity limitations (PR, 2.38; 95% CI, 2.12 to 2.67), and an adverse health status outcome in any domain (PR, 2.10; 95% CI, 1.97 to 2.23). Cancer treatment and health behaviors influence the magnitude of differences by age groups. Chronic conditions were associated with adverse health status outcomes across organ systems. CONCLUSION The prevalence of poor health status is higher among survivors than siblings, increases rapidly with age, particularly among female participants, and is related to an increasing burden of chronic health conditions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To review the characteristics of cancer in the adolescence and young adult age group; the medical, psychosocial and behavioral late effects; survivorship care planning and transition; current research priorities; and practice implications. DATA SOURCE Published articles, research studies and position statements. CONCLUSION Survivors of cancers that occurred during adolescence and young adulthood (AYA) are confronted with the dual demands of managing their transition to independent adulthood, concurrently with their transition from cancer patient to cancer survivors, with an associated reduction in support from medical services. AYA survivors also face complex medical, psychosocial and behavioral late effects, including fertility and mental health issues. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE An understanding of the impact of cancer diagnoses among this age group, including survivors' abilities to reintegrate into 'normal' life and potential long term consequences, is necessary to provide the best support. This care and support can be enhanced through multidisciplinary teams who work together to address the medical and psychosocial needs of AYAs diagnosed with cancer.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Given the decades of survivorship for adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors, it is important to promote behaviours that enhance physical and mental well-being and quality of life (QoL). The purpose of this study was to explore the exercise programming preferences and information needs of AYA survivors and to examine the impact of a cancer diagnosis on physical activity behavior and QoL. METHODS Participants aged 15-25 years at time of diagnosis and referred to a specialist AYA cancer service between January 2008 and February 2012 were recruited. Eligible participants were mailed a self-administered questionnaire assessing demographic and disease-related information, physical activity levels over time and exercise information preferences. QoL was measured using the Assessment of Quality of Life-6D (AQoL-6D). RESULTS Seventy-four (response rate 52 %) participants completed the questionnaire. The mean age was 23 years with 54 % female, with prevalent diagnoses included hematological malignancy (45 %) and sarcoma (24 %). Results indicated a significant reduction in the average minutes of physical activity post diagnosis (p =< 0.001) and during treatment (p = < 0.001). AYA who met public health physical activity guidelines (n = 36) at questionnaire completion had significantly higher QoL than those not meeting the guidelines (n = 38) (median (Mdn) = 0.87, interquartile range (IQR) = 0.73 to 0.98 and Mdn = 0.81, IQR = 0.57 to 0.93, respectively; p = 0.034). Most participants wanted exercise information at some point after diagnosis (85 %) but many did not receive any information (45 %). CONCLUSIONS Findings suggest that AYA with cancer experience a significant impact on physical activity levels and QoL. Moreover, survivors experience considerable difficulty returning to premorbid levels of activity. Our study suggests that interventions promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyle behaviours would be well accepted within this population and may be essential to improve their long-term health and QoL during survivorship.

Abstract
There is a growing body of evidence suggesting that nutritional status during treatment for cancer has a significant impact on treatment-related toxicities and outcomes among children and adolescents with cancer. The effects of nutritional status appear to extend into survivorship with a large proportion of survivors at risk for a variety of nutrition-related morbidities. The influence of dietary intake on overall treatment outcomes and long-term morbidities is largely unknown. In adults, evidence suggests that greater adherence to cancer prevention dietary guidelines improves long-term health outcomes among survivors of cancer. Surveys describing dietary intake among survivors of childhood cancer have found that most survivors are not meeting the recommended guidelines for many dietary nutrients and this may have an unfavorable effect on nutrition-related outcomes. However, more research is needed in this area so that well-designed clinical trials may be developed and tested. This review presents an overview of the existing literature describing dietary intake among survivors of childhood cancer, the clinical implications of reported dietary behaviors among survivors, and identifies areas for future research.

Abstract
PURPOSE Over half of young adult cancer survivors do not meet physical activity (PA) guidelines. PA interventions can enhance health and quality of life among young adult cancer survivors. However, few exercise interventions have been designed and tested in this population. This study evaluated the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a 12-week, Facebook-based intervention (FITNET) aimed at increasing moderate-to-vigorous intensity PA compared with a Facebook-based self-help comparison (SC) condition. METHODS Young adult cancer survivors (n = 86) were randomly assigned to the FITNET or SC group. All participants were asked to complete self-administered online questionnaires at baseline and after 12 weeks. RESULTS Seventy-seven percent of participants completed postintervention assessments, and most participants reported using intervention components as intended. Participants in both groups would recommend the program to other young adult cancer survivors (FITNET, 46.9 vs. SC, 61.8 %; p = 0.225). Over 12 weeks, both groups increased self-reported weekly minutes of moderate-to-vigorous PA (FITNET, 67 min/week (p = 0.009) vs. SC, 46 min/week (p = 0.045)), with no significant difference between groups. Increases in light PA were 135 min/week greater in the FITNET group relative to the SC group (p = 0.032), and the FITNET group reported significant weight loss over time (-2.1 kg, p = 0.004; p = 0.083 between groups). CONCLUSION Facebook-based intervention approaches demonstrated potential for increasing PA in young adult cancer survivors. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Social networking sites may be a feasible way for young adult cancer survivors to receive health information and support to promote PA and healthy behaviors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe topics, needs, and concerns related to nutrition and exercise that adolescents and young adults affected by a serious illness (cancer) discuss online. METHODS Investigators conducted a qualitative content analysis of messages related to nutrition and exercise posted on an online young adult cancer forum. RESULTS AYAs described several functions achieved through nutrition and exercise, such as fighting cancer, losing weight, obtaining nutrients despite side effects of treatment, promoting general health, enjoyment, and promoting mental/emotional health. AYAs also discussed several problems that interfere with nutrition and exercise goals, such as side effects of steroids, physiological problems with eating, safety concerns or physical limitations due to treatment, poor follow through with behavioral change, stress, and low energy. CONCLUSION AYAs discuss specific ways nutrition and exercise help achieve a variety of functions that may be physical or psychological, cancer-specific or general. AYAs describe several concerns and barriers that impede their nutrition and exercise goals. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Clinicians should also consider relevant medical and personal variables that partly determine nutrition and exercise concerns. Clinicians can anticipate barriers to desired nutrition/exercise change and develop interventions that address these barriers in appropriately tailored ways, including using digital media.

Abstract
PURPOSE Differences in health status and behavioral risk factors may explain racial/ethnic breast cancer disparities. We examined racial/ethnic differences in health status and behaviors among female breast cancer survivors compared to females without breast cancer. METHODS Using cross-sectional data from the 2009 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, a national state-based, random sample telephone survey, we explored differences in self-rated health, obesity and selected behaviors (physical activity, smoking, alcohol use, fruit, and vegetable consumption) among females aged 18 years and older, who reported a previous breast cancer diagnosis (survivors, n = 10,035) and those who reported no breast cancer history (n = 234,375) by race/ethnicity. Adjusted prevalences of health status and behaviors, accounting for sociodemographics, comorbidities and health care access, were estimated by race/ethnicity. RESULTS Compared to all other racial/ethnic groups, more white females reported heavy alcohol consumption and more black females reported obesity regardless of their breast cancer status. Among breast cancer survivors, more whites (33.7 %) were former smokers compared to blacks (24.5 %), "others" (20.5 %), and Hispanics (16.2 %) (p = 0.001). Racial/ethnic differences in obesity also varied by reported time since diagnosis (p value = 0.018). Among long-term survivors (diagnosed >5 years before interview), more black survivors (34.8 %) reported obesity compared to white survivors (23.0 %). Also, among "other" race survivors, long-term survivors (22.0 %) reported more obesity than survivors diagnosed less than 5 years before interview (7.8 %). CONCLUSIONS These findings suggest opportunities to increase health behaviors and reduce racial disparities among breast cancer survivors. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Engaging in healthy behaviors can play a significant role in enhancing health outcomes and quality of life of breast cancer survivors. More research is needed to better understand racial differences in obesity, smoking and alcohol consumption in order to develop effective, culturally appropriate interventions to promote a healthy lifestyle after a breast cancer diagnosis.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Skin cancer is one of the most common secondary neoplasms among childhood cancer survivors. However, little evidence exists for effective interventions to promote sun safety behaviors within this population. METHODS This small-scale randomized controlled trial examined the efficacy of the Survivor Health and Resilience Education (SHARE) Program intervention, a multiple health behavior change intervention designed to increase sun safety practices among adolescent survivors of childhood cancer. Adolescent survivors of childhood cancer (11-21 years) were randomly allocated to a group-based behavioral intervention (n = 38) or wait-list control (n = 37). Self-reported sun safety behaviors were assessed using a valid, 8-item scale at baseline and 1-month post-intervention. RESULTS Controlling for baseline sun safety, gender, and seasonal influences, intervention participants reported significantly more sun safety practices (e.g., using sunscreen, reapplying sunscreen regularly) at 1-month post-intervention than control participants (B = 2.64, 95% CI = 1.02, 4.27, p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS The results suggest that SHARE was efficacious in producing improvements in short-term self-reported sun safety practices among adolescent survivors of childhood cancer. Future research is needed to build upon this work by incorporating objective measures of sun safety behaviors and examining intervention durability. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Behavioral interventions addressing lifestyle factors, including sun safety behaviors, among adolescent survivors of childhood cancer should be integrated into long-term care to reduce the risk for secondary malignancies and diseases.
