Knowledge mapping of immunotherapy for breast cancer: A bibliometric analysis from 2013 to 2022

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death among women globally. Immunotherapy has emerged as a major milestone in contemporary oncology. This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis in the field of immunotherapy for breast cancer, providing a comprehensive overview of the current research status, identifying trends and hotspots in research topics. We searched and retrieved data from the Web of Science Core Collection, and performed a bibliometric analysis of publications on immunotherapy for breast cancer from 2013 to 2022. Current status and hotspots were evaluated by co-occurrence analysis using VOSviewer. Evolution and bursts of knowledge base were assessed by co-citation analysis using CiteSpace. Thematic evolution by bibliometrix package was used to discover keywords trends. The attribution and collaboration of countries/regions, institutions and authors were also explored. A total of 7,975 publications were included. In co-occurrence analysis of keywords, 6 major clusters were revealed: tumor microenvironment, prognosis biomarker, immune checkpoints, novel drug delivery methods, immune cells and therapeutic approaches. The top three most frequently mentioned keywords were tumor microenvironment, triple-negative breast cancer, and programmed cell death ligand 1. The most productive country, institution and author were the USA (2926 publications), the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (219 publications), and Sherene Loi (28 publications), respectively. There has been a rapid growth in studies on immunotherapy for breast cancer worldwide. This research area has gained increasing attention from different countries and institutions. With the rising incidence of breast cancer, immunotherapy represents a research field of significant clinical value and potential.

Current perspectives and trends of the research on hypertensive nephropathy: a bibliometric analysis from 2000 to 2023

Hypertensive nephropathy continues to be a major cause of end-stage renal disease and poses a significant global health burden. Despite the staggering development of research in hypertensive nephropathy, scientists and clinicians can only seek out useful information through articles and reviews, it remains a hurdle for them to quickly track the trend in this field. This study uses the bibliometric method to identify the evolutionary development and recent hotspots of hypertensive nephropathy. The Web of Science Core Collection database was used to extract publications on hypertensive nephropathy from January 2000 to November 2023. CiteSpace was used to capture the patterns and trends from multi-perspectives, including countries/regions, institutions, keywords, and references. In total, 557 publications on hypertensive nephropathy were eligible for inclusion. China (n = 208, 37.34%) was the most influential contributor among all the countries. Veterans Health Administration (n = 19, 3.41%) was found to be the most productive institution. Keyword bursting till now are renal fibrosis, outcomes, and mechanisms which are predicted to be the potential frontiers and hotspots in the future. The top seven references were listed, and their burst strength was shown. A comprehensive overview of the current status and research frontiers of hypertensive nephropathy has been provided through the bibliometric perspective. Recent advancements and challenges in hypertensive nephropathy have been discussed. These findings can offer informative instructions for researchers and scholars.

Status and barriers to circular bio-based building material adoption in developed economies: The case of Flanders, Belgium

Circular bio-based building materials (CBBMs) provide a potential solution to reduce the climate impacts of buildings and offer opportunities to transition the construction industry to a circular model. Promoting the use of these materials can also bring economic, environmental, and social benefits from valorising biowaste and by-products from other sectors. Despite their potential, CBBMs have not received sufficient attention globally, and their adoption is hindered by various barriers. However, it is unclear what the CBBMs' use status is, what adoption barriers exist, how these barriers interact, and what should be done to address them. This study addresses these knowledge gaps through a systematic study using mixed methods to investigate the adoption status and barriers to these materials in developed economies by using a specific case analysis in Flanders. The data analysis results show that hemp-based, cork-based, and straw-based materials are the most used, while the market for CBBMs is very limited in the region. Twenty-three potential adoption barriers were identified and selected from the existing literature, then ranked based on their mean scores. The t-test analysis helps to identify 13 critical barriers, which are grouped into five categories, including cost and risk-related barriers, technical and cultural-related barriers, the government's role-related barriers, information and quality-related barriers, and market-related barriers. Among them, cost and risk-related barriers, including "concern about the high initial cost", "risks and uncertainties involved in adopting new materials", and "perception of the extra cost being incurred", are the three most critical barriers to CBBM adoption in Flanders. Kendall's W test shows good consensus among the two expert groups-with and without hands-on experience in utilising CBBMs-in their rankings of the barriers. Meanwhile, the Mann-Whitney U test indicates no statistically significant differences in the ranks of barriers between the two expert groups. The interview results confirm almost all survey results and provide deeper insights into the status and barriers to adopting these materials. Practical and policy implications are discussed based on these findings to inform policy deliberations on promoting CBBMs. This study may also be a good reference for scholars and industry practitioners to better understand issues impacting decision-making towards the adoption of CBBMs in the construction industry.

Exploring Research Trend and Hotspots on Oxidative Stress in Ischemic Stroke (2001-2022): Insights from Bibliometric

Oxidative stress is widely involved in the pathological process of ischemic stroke and ischemia-reperfusion. Several research have demonstrated that eliminating or reducing oxidative stress can alleviate the pathological changes of ischemic stroke. However, current clinical antioxidant treatment did not always perform as expected. This bibliometric research aims to identify research trends, topics, hotspots, and evolution on oxidative stress in the field of ischemic stroke, and to find potentially antioxidant strategies in future clinical treatment. Relevant publications were searched from the Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection databases (2001-2022). VOSviewer was used to visualize and analyze the development trends and hotspots. In the field of oxidative stress and ischemic stroke, the number of publications increased significantly from 2001 to 2022. China and the USA were the leading countries for publication output. The most prolific institutions were Stanford University. Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism and Stroke were the most cited journals. The research topics in this field include inflammation with oxidative stress, mitochondrial damage with oxidative stress, oxidative stress in reperfusion injury, oxidative stress in cognitive impairment and basic research and clinical translation of oxidative stress. Moreover, "NLRP3 inflammasome," "autophagy," "mitophagy," "miRNA," "ferroptosis," and "signaling pathway" are the emerging research hotspots in recent years. At present, multi-target regulation focusing on multi-mechanism crosstalk has progressed across this period, while challenges come from the transformation of basic research to clinical application. New detection technology and new nanomaterials are expected to integrate oxidative stress into the clinical treatment of ischemic stroke better.

Understanding How Indigenous Knowledge Contributes to Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience: A Systematic Literature Review

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing the world today threatening societies and the future of the planet. The impacts of climate change are more severe in poor and marginalised populations like Indigenous communities where people rely heavily on their Indigenous Knowledge (IK) to adapt to the changing environment. Climate change adaptation and resilience are critical for the survival of Indigenous communities under the threat of climate change. This systematic literature review seeks to understand how IK contributes to climate change adaptation and resilience. A total of 71 papers from Scopus were analysed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. It investigated three research questions: (i) How is IK understood in climate change studies? (ii) What kind of IK is used to address climate change and enhance adaptation and resilience? and finally, (iii) What could be done to maximise the use of IK towards enhancing climate adaptation and resilience? The study found that Indigenous people use IK to predict extreme climatic conditions, prepare for it, and live through it making use of Indigenous adaptation strategies in multiple manifestations. The solutions to maximise the benefits of IK promote two dominant themes requiring more research on IK and climate change with diverse focus areas and the need to bridge it with scientific knowledge. This review provides a starting point for such research that will draw upon IK to enhance climate adaptation and resilience towards meaningful sustainable development.

Comparative Bibliometric Analysis of Established and Emerging Databases on Salivary Biomarkers for Early Oral Cancer Diagnosis

BACKGROUND

Salivary biomarkers play an important role in the preventive strategy for oral cancer detection at an early stage. The aim of this study was to carry out a comparative quantitative analysis of the research material on the topic in one established database, Scopus and another emerging database, Dimensions.

METHOD

An electronic search was performed in Scopus and Dimensions in April 2024 with the search subjects "Saliva," "Biomarkers," "Diagnosis," and "Oral Cancer." The retrieved data were analyzed using Biblioshiny for RStudio and MS Excel.

RESULT

The search yielded 229 and 158 documents in Scopus and Dimensions, respectively. The data were studied to understand the coverage, concentration, and diversion of research articles. The analysis revealed high singularity index for Scopus and low overlap percentage between the two databases. Scopus was found to have higher citation count per article, however, the citation correlation between Scopus and Dimensions was found to be strong. Author productivity was found to be low in both the databases.

CONCLUSION

Scopus and Dimensions vary in their scope, volume of data, and coverage policies. Both the databases have complimentary coverage on salivary biomarkers for oral cancer diagnosis. However, Scopus has a greater number of articles, sources, and citations resulting in better coverage of the topic.

Bibliometrics analysis on the research status and trends of small bowel adenocarcinoma: 1923-2023

Objectives

The aim of this research is to discuss the research status, hotspots, frontiers, and development trends in the field of small bowel adenocarcinoma based on bibliometrics and visual analysis by CiteSpace software.

Methods

The relevant research articles on SBA from 1923 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace software was used to form a visual knowledge map and conduct analysis for the countries/regions, journals, authors, keywords, clusters, research hotspots and frontiers of the included articles.

Results

There were 921 articles included, and the number of articles published during 1923-2023 is increasing. The country with the highest number of articles published was the United States (443, 38.76%), followed by Japan (84, 9.12%) and France (72, 7.82%). The author with the highest number of publications is Ansell, Overman MJ (33, 3.58%), and the author with the highest co-citation frequency is Overman MJ (218). Journal of Clinical Oncology is the journal with the highest publication frequency. The top five cluster groups were "chemotherapy", "inflammatory bowel disease", "celiac disease", "tumor" and "small intestine". The related disease, chemotherapy drugs, and treatment regimens of SBA form the main research fields, and prognosis and diagnosis are the research hotspots and trends.

Conclusion

The global research field in SBA has expanded in the past 100 years. The prognosis and new diagnosis of SBA are hotspots in this field and require further study in the future.

Characteristics of retracted articles in ophthalmology

The retraction of publications is a crucial aspect of scientific integrity; it aims to correct the literature and alert scholars and the general public by identifying and labelling articles that contain erroneous data, unreliable findings, or flawed conclusions. Identifying and characterizing retracted articles within the scientific literature is thus very important. The aims of this article were to characterize retracted articles in the ophthalmological literature. One hundred and fifty-one retracted articles published between 1966 and 2023 were retrieved. The number of retracted articles showed an upward trend from 2020 onwards. Ocular oncology (n = 37, 24.5 %) was the most frequently represented subspeciality in the retracted articles, despite retina and uveitis being the most published. The most frequent reason for retraction was fake data (n = 62, 38 %). The labelling of retracted articles on some websites was unsatisfactory, especially on the free-access illegal platform Sci-Hub. On the other hand, platforms such as Dimensions, Scite and Retraction Watch exhibit promising accuracy. Improving the labelling of retractions is needed to reduce the citation of articles after they have been retracted. Solutions to reach this goal are discussed in this article.

Global scientific production on gasless laparoscopy: a bibliometric analysis

Objectives

To characterize the bibliometric characteristics of the global scientific production of original research on gasless laparoscopy in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) platform.

Materials and methods

A bibliometric study of original articles published up to the year 2023 was carried out. Articles were included following the selection criteria in the Rayyan web application, indexed in the Scopus database. The bibliometric analysis was performed using the Bibliometrix program in the R programming language and VOSviewer. The bibliometric characteristics evaluated were articles, journals, citations, publications, ten most mentioned articles, journals with the highest number of publications, authors and institutional affiliations; and cooccurrence of terms.

Results

A total of 223 publications were included, with the highest number of articles being published in the years 1999 and 2014. The publication with the most citations was found to be a randomized trial by Galizia G in 2001 with 132 citations. We identified 846 authors involved in the production of articles on gasless laparoscopy, with Nakamura H being the most productive author with 15 articles between the years 2007 and 2020, followed by Takeda A and Imoto S, all three affiliated with "Gifu Prefectural Tajimi Hospital". The country with the highest production was Japan with 64 publications, followed by China and Italy with 46 and 18 publications, respectively. In the top 10 journals with the highest number of publications, "Surgical Endoscopy-Ultrasound and Interventional Techniques" is in first place with 20 articles published on gasless laparoscopy; in addition, most of these are located in Q1 and Q2. Regarding the terms or keywords, it was found that the initial studies had terms related to the disadvantages of pneumoperitoneum and later focused on more specific topics of the application of gasless laparoscopy.

Conclusions

Production on gasless laparoscopy has stagnated, with the topics of interest currently being its application in new, less invasive techniques. The most productive countries are found in the Asian and European continents, with little information collected in Latin America. This fact makes it necessary to increase the production of studies to promote this technique and its possible advantages.

Succession Planning and Leadership Development in Nursing: A Bibliometric Analysis (2000-2023)

Succession planning is a commonly employed term in business strategy, referring to the systematic process of transferring leadership responsibilities to another employee to ensure the seamless continuity of an organization's operations. Today, this concept has acquired importance in various industries, including healthcare, with a specific focus on nursing. Several factors led nurse managers to consider preparing potential leaders for primary leadership roles due to the shortage of nurses, significantly impacting healthcare services and patient safety. Because of the importance of this topic, this present bibliometric analysis aims to analyze research studies conducted on succession planning and leadership development in nursing from 2000 to 2023 to identify research trends, key themes, and the evolution of research during this period. The Elsevier Scopus database was utilized for this analysis. This methodology identified (n = 326) journal studies based on the predefined keywords and timeframe. The data derived from this bibliometric analysis offers a robust foundation for conducting a systematic review, enabling a comprehensive synthesis and evaluation of the evidence in this significant field of study.

Evolution of documents related to the influence of physical activity and functional capacity throughout the aging process: a bibliometric review

Physical inactivity can lead to frailty and negative health outcomes in middle-aged to older adults. Sedentary individuals have double the risk of death compared to those who engage in high levels of physical activity (PA). The advantages of practicing PA in older age are significant, with regular, moderate-intensity activity (150 min per week)being consistently linked with a decreased risk of chronic disease, cognitive decline, and mortality. Therefore, the study aimed to carry out a bibliometric review related to the terms "Physical activity," "Functional capacity" and "Aging" including all the documents published in the Web of Science Core Collection until 31st December 2023. The sample was made up of 231 studies related to the topic. The results reported that the first document was published in 1994. However, there was no continuity in the publication of the documents till 1998, which was the first year with at least one document published. Considering 1998 as the first year, it is observed an exponential growth of 77.4%, between the oldest (1997-2008) and contemporaneous studies (2008-2023), in which "Geriatric Gerontology" was the Web of Science category with the highest number of documents (n = 59). The journal "Experimental Gerontology" was associated with the largest number of published documents (n = 7), being indexed in Quartil 2. The years 2009 had the highest number of citations (n = 1811), with a total of 7 documents published and 2018 with the higher number of documents (n = 25). These results reported the importance of PA in elderly people, and how it influences the risk of falls, improving the balance and the functional capacity. Thus, it is important to carry out programmes to promote physical activity to this population and reduce the risk of falls and the presence of diseases.

Research Hotspots and Trends of Interventions for Sarcopenic Obesity: A Bibliometric Analysis

Sarcopenic obesity, characterized by both obesity and sarcopenia, significantly impacts health and independence of affected individuals. There is an urgent need to explore effective strategies for addressing or preventing sarcopenic obesity. An initial critical step is to promptly assess the impact of academic research in this field, considering factors such as geographical regions, authors, journals, and institutions. It is also essential to analyze current trends and identify potential areas that may inspire future researchers to conduct further studies, ultimately improving public health outcomes for individuals with sarcopenic obesity. To achieve this, bibliometric research was conducted using the Web of Science Core Collection database to identify English language articles and reviews focusing on sarcopenic obesity interventions published between January 1, 2004, and June 15, 2024, followed by a literature review. A total of 929 English-language articles were collected, consisting of 645 research articles and 284 reviews. Research output in the field has shown significant growth since 2017, reaching a peak of 139 papers in 2022. The United States leads in publication output with 234 papers and a total of 13,971 citations, highlighting substantial international collaboration. Both the United States and Europe are recognized as key academic hubs for sarcopenic obesity intervention research, characterized by robust academic interactions. Moreover, there has been a notable increase in publication volume from China, South Korea, and Japan. Noteworthy authors in this field include Boirie Y from Université Clermont Auvergne in France, Prado CM from the University of Alberta in Canada, Cruz-Jentoft AJ from Hospital Universitario Ramon y Cajal in Spain, and Prado CM from the University of Alberta, known for their high citation count. The University of Alberta leads in the number of publications, while the University of Verona in Italy leads in citation frequency. Journals with higher publication volumes in sarcopenic obesity intervention include Nutrients, Clinical Nutrition, and Journal of Cachexia Sarcopenia and Muscle. Among the top 20 keywords, the most relevant interventions for sarcopenic obesity are exercise, nutrition, resistance training, physical activity, and muscle strength. The primary evidence currently available suggests that resistance training is the most effective method for enhancing muscle strength in sarcopenic obesity patients. Additionally, combining protein supplementation with resistance exercise has shown encouraging results in reducing fat mass in these individuals. To progress in this field, it is crucial to foster collaboration among countries, regions, and academic institutions, promoting multidisciplinary partnerships.

A systematic review of cyclonic disaster: Damage-loss, consequences, adaptation strategies, and future scopes

Tropical cyclones have direct and indirect repercussions in many coastal areas worldwide. In coastal regions, several studies have identified the driving factors of cyclonic hazards and their associated impacts. However, previous studies have focused little on cyclone-induced damage and loss, consequences, and adaptation strategies. As a result, it is critical to explore the global focus areas of cyclone-related studies. This review systematically examined cyclone-induced damage and loss, its consequences, adaptation strategies in coastal regions, and associated research gaps. Results revealed eight main types of cyclone-induced damages and losses. About 46 % of studies focused on vegetation damages, followed by water and sanitation (11 %), crop damages (8 %), income or business losses (8 %), health and injuries (8 %), land use and land cover changes (8 %), infrastructural damages (5 %), and mixed damages and losses (5 %). These damages and losses led to further consequences, including disruption of biocenoses, fish death because defoliated leaves carried carbon into the water, changes in forest structure and composition, loss of timber plantation confidence, hampering the steady supply of safe drinking water, raising drinking water costs, unsanitary circumstances, an increase in infectious diseases, a decrease in protein consumption, and business and supply chain interruptions. Approximately 35 % of the studies addressed one or more of the thirteen adaptation strategies identified in this review. Most of these studies documented the use of natural regeneration and tree planting as responses to vegetation damage and water purification and the distribution of emergency-safe water in response to water and sanitation damage. The findings have led to a proposal for an adaptation framework for cyclone-induced damage and loss. This review recommended investigating cyclone-induced land use and land cover change, damage to vegetation functional traits and patterns, health and injuries, service networks, and infrastructural damages.

Evolution of Single-Session Therapy: A Bibliometric Analysis

OBJECTIVE

This bibliometric analysis aimed to explore the publication and citation metrics of the research literature on single-session therapy (SST) to understand its current status, trends, and future prospects.

METHODS

Seventy-five keywords were validated by subject matter experts. Publications from 1972 through September 2023 were extracted from the bibliometric website Lens.org. Publication trends, citation patterns, prominent journals, and influential authors were examined as part of the bibliometric analysis. Citation network analysis, bibliographic coupling of authors, and coauthorship network analysis were also performed.

RESULTS

A total of 301 SST publications, including 18 books, 85 book chapters, and 176 journal articles, were found, published by 493 authors. The citation- and publication-related metrics suggested a growing level of subject matter expertise over time. Initially, single-author publications held more prominence than collaborative work, but this pattern shifted. From 2011 to 2020, scholarly interest surged, resulting in 144 publications during this period.

CONCLUSIONS

This bibliometric analysis, the first systematic exploration of the SST knowledge base, can be used to expand and enrich future SST research.

A global synthesis of predation on bivalves

Predation is a dominant structuring force in ecological communities. In aquatic environments, predation on bivalves has long been an important focal interaction for ecological study because bivalves have central roles as ecosystem engineers, basal components of food webs, and commercial commodities. Studies of bivalves are common, not only because of bivalves' central roles, but also due to the relative ease of studying predatory effects on this taxonomic group. To understand patterns in the interactions of bivalves and their predators we synthesised data from 52 years of peer-reviewed studies on bivalve predation. Using a systematic search, we compiled 1334 studies from 75 countries, comprising 61 bivalve families (N = 2259), dominated by Mytilidae (29% of bivalves), Veneridae (14%), Ostreidae (8%), Unionidae (7%), and Dreissenidae and Tellinidae (6% each). A total of 2036 predators were studied, with crustaceans the most studied predator group (34% of predators), followed by fishes (24%), molluscs (17%), echinoderms (10%) and birds (6%). The majority of studies (86%) were conducted in marine systems, in part driven by the high commercial value of marine bivalves. Studies in freshwater ecosystems were dominated by non-native bivalves and non-native predator species, which probably reflects the important role of biological invasions affecting freshwater biodiversity. In fact, while 81% of the studied marine bivalve species were native, only 50% of the freshwater species were native to the system. In terms of approach, most studies used predation trials, visual analysis of digested contents and exclusion experiments to assess the effects of predation. These studies reflect that many factors influence bivalve predation depending on the species studied, including (i) species traits (e.g. behaviour, morphology, defence mechanisms), (ii) other biotic interactions (e.g. presence of competitors, parasites or diseases), and (iii) environmental context (e.g. temperature, current velocity, beach exposure, habitat complexity). There is a lack of research on the effects of bivalve predation at the population and community and ecosystem levels (only 7% and 0.5% of studies respectively examined impacts at these levels). At the population level, the available studies demonstrate that predation can decrease bivalve density through consumption or the reduction of recruitment. At the community and ecosystem level, predation can trigger effects that cascade through trophic levels or effects that alter the ecological functions bivalves perform. Given the conservation and commercial importance of many bivalve species, studies of predation should be pursued in the context of global change, particularly climate change, acidification and biological invasions.

A Key Interaction Behind the Scenes: Dung Beetles in Livestock Production from Arid and Semi-Arid Rangelands

Pastoralism is a dominant agricultural activity in arid and semi-arid ecosystems. The interaction between coprophagous insects and livestock is a key but an undervalued topic in rangeland management decisions. The objective was to identify similarities and differences in the composition of coprophagous insects and nesting strategies, associated with different climatic conditions within these regions. We performed a literature review of research articles available in the Scopus database which resulted in 17 articles. We examined the taxonomic diversity of dung beetles and their nesting strategies in relation to temperature and precipitation at the study sites. Results revealed a rich and varied interaction between dung beetles and livestock in arid and semi-arid environments, with 364 species from the Scarabaeoidea superfamily documented worldwide. The greatest diversity of dung beetles was reported in hot arid and semi-arid conditions with dry winters and in cold semi-arid ones with no marked annual precipitation cycle. These insects displayed diverse nesting strategies, with endocoprid strategies predominating in colder and drier settings, and paracoprid and telecoprid strategies in warmer, more humid environments. Domestic animal species are currently key components in promoting this interaction, which indicates that the ecological processes involving coprophagous fauna are occurring in production systems, which are under the influence of human decisions. We discuss the design and planning of livestock and rangeland management in arid and semi-arid environments, emphasizing in a more formalized manner the inclusion of this kind of interaction.

Plant-Based Proteins, Peptides and Amino Acids in Food Products Dedicated for Sportspeople-A Narrative Review of the Literature

Plant proteins are increasingly seen as critical nutrient sources for both amateur and professional athletes. The aim of the presented study was to review the inventions and experimental articles referring to the application of plant-based proteins, peptides and amino acids in food products dedicated to sportspeople and published in the period 2014-2023. The literature search was conducted according to PRISMA statementsacross several key databases, including Scopus and ISI Web of Science. Altogether, 106 patents and 35 original articles were found. The survey of patents and inventions described in the articles showed the use of 52 taxa (mainly annual herbaceous plants), creating edible seeds and representing mainly the families Fabaceae and Poaceae. The majority of inventions were developed by research teams numbering from two to five scientists, affiliated in China, The United States of America and Japan. The greatest number of inventions applied plant-based proteins (especially protein isolates), declared the nutritional activity and were prepared in liquid or solid consistency. According to the reviewed studies, the intake of soybean and potato proteins might provide better results than animal-based protein (excluding resistance training), whereas the consumption of pea and rice protein does not possess any unique anabolic properties over whey protein. The analysis of other investigations demonstrated the varied acceptability and consumption of food products, while the high rating of the tested food products presented in four articles seems to be an effect of their sensual values, as well as other elements, such as production method, health benefits and cost-effectiveness. Considering the great potential of useful plant species, it might be concluded that future investigations focusing on searching for novel plant protein sources, suitable for the preparation of food products dedicated to amateur and professional sportspeople, remain of interest.

Analysis of research hotspots and trends in pediatric ophthalmopathy based on 10 years of WoSCC literature

Background

Ophthalmopathy occurring in childhood can easily lead to irreversible visual impairment, and therefore a great deal of clinical and fundamental researches have been conducted in pediatric ophthalmopathy. However, a few studies have been performed to analyze such large amounts of research using bibliometric methods. This study intended to apply bibliometric methods to analyze the research hotspots and trends in pediatric ophthalmopathy, providing a basis for clinical practice and scientific research to improve children's eye health.

Methods

Publications related to pediatric ophthalmopathy were searched and identified in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. Bibliometric and visualized analysis was performed using the WoSCC analysis system and CiteSpace.6.2.6 software, and high-impact publications were analyzed.

Results

This study included a total of 7,177 publications from 162 countries and regions. Of these, 2,269 from the United States and 1,298 from China. The centrality and H-index were highest in the United States at 0.27 and 66, respectively. The University of London and Harvard University had the highest H-index at 37. Freedman,Sharon F published 55 publications, with the highest H-index at 19. The emerging burst keyword in 2020-2023 was "eye tracking," and the burst keywords in 2021-2023 were "choroidal thickness," "pediatric ophthalmology," "impact" and "childhood glaucoma." Retinopathy of prematurity, myopia, retinoblastoma and uveitis in juvenile idiopathic arthritis were the main topics in the high-impact publications, with clinical studies in the majority, especially in retinopathy of prematurity.

Conclusion

Eye health in children is a research hotspot, with the United States publishing the largest number of papers and having the greatest influence in research on pediatric ophthalmopathy, and China coming in second. The University of London and Stanford University had the greatest influence. Freedman, Sharon F was the most influential author. Furthermore, "choroidal thickness," "pediatric ophthalmology," "impact," "childhood glaucoma" and "eye tracking"are the latest hotspots in the field of pediatric ophthalmopathy. These hotspots represent hot diseases, hot technologies and holistic concepts, which are exactly the research trends in the field of pediatric ophthalmopathy, providing guidance and grounds for clinical practice and scientific research on children's eye health.

A bibliometrics review of the journal mindfulness: science mapping the literature from 2012 to 2022

This study conducts a bibliometric analysis using the Web of Science database on 1,950 articles published in the journal Mindfulness from 2012 to 2022. By constructing a knowledge graph, the research delineates the evolution, stages of development, and emerging trends in the field of mindfulness. Significant growth in the annual publication volume has been observed since 2012, with the research progression segmented into three distinct phases. The United States has emerged as a pivotal contributor to the field, dominating in terms of publication volume, researcher involvement, and institutional contributions. Through the application of keyword co-occurrence and reference co-citation analysis, five principal clusters were identified, focusing on mindfulness, meditation, depression, stress, and self-compassion, underscoring these as focal research areas. Furthermore, the exploration of mindfulness within the educational sphere in Taiwan is still nascent, signaling a critical need for bolstered research support in diverse thematic domains.

Monitoring Open Science as transformative change: Towards a systemic framework

Following a flurry of policies for Open Science (OS), there is now a wave of initiatives to monitor its adoption. However, the great diversity of understandings and activities related to Open Science makes monitoring very challenging. There is a danger that by focusing on what can be readily observed (e.g. publications) many other OS activities are overlooked (e.g. participation), with a potential narrowing of OS scope, streetlight effects, and deviation from the values of OS. Since Open Science can be understood as a systemic transformation of the research system, we have borrowed concepts from Transformative Innovation Policies frameworks which aim at evaluating socio-technical transitions. In accordance with this view of OS as a systemic transformation, we propose that the new monitoring efforts should shift towards: (i) systemic perspectives which considers the various actions related to OS, including policies and outputs (e.g. datasets) but also processes (e.g. participatory events), outcomes (e.g. citizen interest in science) and expected impacts (e.g. better scientific contributions to addressing societal problems); (ii) implementation of monitoring as reflexive learning (rather than accountability or benchmarking); (iii) mapping the directionality of the activities and the values associated with the choices in directions. In summary, a monitoring framework for OS requires a profound change in conventional monitoring practices. The scope should broaden from current focus on outputs (such as publications) towards the processes of connection that make science 'open' (usage, co-creation and dialogue), as well as towards outcomes (changes in practices) and the longer-term impacts that reflect the values and normative commitments of OS.

World Trends in Dental Ergonomics Research: A Bibliometric Analysis

Dental ergonomics provides an overview of dentists' work efficiency. The objective of this study was to obtain quantitative information and produce a visualization of the network of scientific publications on the topic of ergonomics and dentistry using bibliometric analysis. Data mining was conducted using the Scopus database and Boolean expressions (ergonom* AND dentist*) on 14 April 2023. Data extraction and analysis were performed using Open Refine version 3.5.2., VOSviewer version 1.6.17., VOSviewer thesaurus, Microsoft Excel, and Tableau Professional version 2020.1.2. A total of 682 documents were identified, with the United States having the largest number of documents and citations (89 documents, 1321 citations). Work, Dentistry Today, and the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health were the top three sources. Ergonomics and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are two of the very prominent keywords, with research topics covering prevalence, causes, factors related to causes, prevention, assessment, rehabilitation, evaluation, and intervention. There was no research on ergonomic interventions that collaborated with human factors and ergonomics (HFE). We conclude that the trending topic of dental ergonomics research topics around the world is centered on MSDs. The future research challenge is to apply HFE science to improve the health, safety, efficiency, and quality of dentists' work.

The role of pre-service physical education teachers in physical education - A bibliometric and systematic review

Pre-service physical education teachers (PSPTs) have long been an important area of specific development in physical education and have become a significant force in the field of physical education and research over the past two decades. However, exploratory research on pre-service teachers remains relatively scarce, and lack a comprehensive scientific exploration of the scope of their role. Therefore, this study provides a comprehensive overview of pre-service physical education teacher education (PETE) from both a broad and specific perspective. Specifically, it includes the current state of PETE, the most influential authors, countries, journals, and literature, as well as specific research topics and future directions within PETE. Following the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, a total of 340 articles were included, with 84 of them being empirical studies. The findings reveal that teacher training, diversity, equity, and inclusion in education, educational attitudes and beliefs, educational quality, educational methods and technology, career motivation, teaching models and strategies, and teacher assessment and reflection are major research themes. Visual analysis of the application of pre-service physical education teacher research highlights teacher training, diversity, equity, and inclusion in education, as well as instructional technology, as key areas of future focus. These insights contribute to the reasonable application of bibliometrics in the field of pre-service physical education teacher research.

Measurements and analysis of nitrogen and phosphorus in oceans: Practice, frontiers, and insights

Nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in oceans have been extensively studied, and advancements in associated disciplines have rapidly progressed, enabling the exploration of novel and previously challenging questions. A keyword analysis was conducted using the Scopus database to examine chronological trends and hotspots, offering comprehensive insights into the evolution of marine nitrogen and phosphorus research. For this purpose, author keyword networks were developed for the periods before 1990, 1990 to 2000, 2001 to 2011, and 2012 to 2022. Furthermore, analytical techniques employed in the recent decade to determine nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in seawater were assessed for their applicability and limitations through a critical review of more than 50 journal articles. Taxonomy and nitrogen biogeochemistry were the prominent research interests for the first two periods, respectively, while stable isotopic tracking of nitrogen and phosphorus processes emerged as the dominant research focus for the last two decades. The integration of macroeconomic factors in research development and the chronological rise of interdisciplinary research were identified. Conventional analytical techniques such as spectrophotometry, colorimetry, fluorometry, and elemental analysis were noted, along with emerging techniques like remote sensing and microfluidic sensors.

Top 100 highly cited sustainability researchers

The announcement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provided a fresh direction to sustainability research that spans different disciplines. Consequently, scholarly databases made available the mapping of research publications to different SDGs, unleashing many opportunities for analysis. In this work, the top 100 Highly Cited Sustainability Researchers (HCSRs) and information related to them, such as the institutions they belong to, the type of these institutions, the geographical diversity of these researchers, and gender representation patterns, are analyzed. Also, from their publications, their publication pattern, including (i) the least and most researched SDGs, (ii) their Open Access publishing pattern, (iii) their collaboration pattern (iv) the pattern of their research impact, are analyzed. The most sought thematic areas of their research, top journals in which they publish, important research categories handled by these journals, etc., are also investigated. The most significant contribution of these researchers and their recent contributions are also discussed. The data indicates a significant disparity in research focus among the top 100 HCSRs, with most concentrating on "Good Health and Well Being," "Zero Hunger," and "Quality Education," while notably fewer researchers focus on "Decent Work and Economic Growth" and "No Poverty," underscoring the need for a more balanced research agenda across all SDGs. The study reveals that the United States, China, and the United Kingdom are the leading contributors to the top 100 HCSRs, suggesting that these countries are predominant in global sustainability research output, while nations like Iran and Saudi Arabia also make notable, albeit smaller, contributions. The institutional affiliations of HCSRs show a significant imbalance, with only 16 from private institutions compared to 84 from public ones. Specifically, it shows that out of the top 100 researchers, 93 are men, while only 7 are women. The analysis of authorship in publications by HCSRs reveals a tendency towards middle and last author positions, underscoring their collaborative and leadership roles within the research community. All these analyses can inform academia, industry, and policymakers about the most significant developments in research regarding SDGs.

Urban river recovery: a systematic review on the effectiveness of water clean-up programs

Urban rivers are affected at different levels by the intensification of human activities, representing a serious threat to the maintenance of terrestrial life and sustainable urban development. Consequently, great efforts have been dedicated to the ecological restoration of urban rivers around the world, as a solution to recovering the environmental functionality of these environments. In this sense, the present work aimed to investigate the effectiveness of interventions carried out aimed at the recovery of urban rivers, through a systematic review of the literature between 2010 and 2022, using the search term "rivers recovery." The results showed that there have been notable advances in the implementation of river recovery programs in urban areas around the world between the years analyzed. The ecosystems studied were affected, for the most part, by the increase in the supply of nutrients from domestic and industrial effluents, in addition to having highly urbanized surroundings and with several changes in land use patterns. The preparation of this literature review made it possible to demonstrate that the effectiveness of river recovery is extremely complex, since river recovery projects are developed for different reasons, as well as being carried out in different ways according to the intended objective.

Machine Learning Applications in Optical Fiber Sensing: A Research Agenda

The constant monitoring and control of various health, infrastructure, and natural factors have led to the design and development of technological devices in a wide range of fields. This has resulted in the creation of different types of sensors that can be used to monitor and control different environments, such as fire, water, temperature, and movement, among others. These sensors detect anomalies in the input data to the system, allowing alerts to be generated for early risk detection. The advancement of artificial intelligence has led to improved sensor systems and networks, resulting in devices with better performance and more precise results by incorporating various features. The aim of this work is to conduct a bibliometric analysis using the PRISMA 2020 set to identify research trends in the development of machine learning applications in fiber optic sensors. This methodology facilitates the analysis of a dataset comprised of documents obtained from Scopus and Web of Science databases. It enables the evaluation of both the quantity and quality of publications in the study area based on specific criteria, such as trends, key concepts, and advances in concepts over time. The study found that deep learning techniques and fiber Bragg gratings have been extensively researched in infrastructure, with a focus on using fiber optic sensors for structural health monitoring in future research. One of the main limitations is the lack of research on the use of novel materials, such as graphite, for designing fiber optic sensors. The impact of research on health education/health literacy on policymaking in Latin America and the Caribbean Region

Background

In this study, we addressed the gap between health research and policymaking in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), focusing on health education/health literacy. Despite growing research, translating findings into effective policies needs to be improved. We explored the factors that make research on health education and health literacy to be referenced and mentioned in policy documents in LAC (and in Peru). We proposed a model based on the hypothesis that the relationship between research and policymaking depends on the research strength of scientific evidence, timing, and social media activity.

Methods

A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Quantitative data sources included multidisciplinary databases, altmetric data, and citations of policy documents. For data analysis, we obtained descriptive statistics to identify patterns and then verified the association between variables using χ2. The negative binomial regression was used to test the empirical model introduced above. Quantitative analysis was complemented by analysis of responses to a set of open questions from a sample of Peruvian health policymakers.

Results

We found that timing, strength of evidence, and social media activity were significant predictors of research cited in policy documents. Policy documents tended to rely more on qualitative evidence. A positive correlation between timing and cites in policy documents highlighted the importance of timely dissemination, whereas social media activity, while having an impact, had a relatively minor effect. Peruvian policymakers' responses emphasized the role of political context, the relevance of results, and policymakers' commitment to incorporating research into policies.

Conclusion

Strength of evidence, social media engagement, and publication timing are key predictors of citations for health education/literacy research in LAC policy documents. However, qualitative findings highlight challenges, including some distrust in research findings, together with limited access to relevant research. The findings offer opportunities to enhance evidence-informed health education/health literacy policy decisions.

Implications

To increase the influence on health policymakers, researchers should prioritize the timely dissemination of solid evidence, considering both traditional and digital platforms. Policymakers should focus on the quality and relevance of evidence when formulating policies.

Automatically listing senior members of departments as co-authors is highly prevalent in health sciences: meta-analysis of survey research

A systematic review with meta-analysis was conducted to assess the prevalence of automatically listing (a) senior member(s) of a department as co-author(s) on all submitted articles in health sciences and the prevalence of degrees of support on a 5-point justification scale. Survey research was searched in PubMed, Lens.org, and Dimensions.ai. until January 5 2023. We assessed the methodological quality of studies and conducted quantitative syntheses. We identified 15 eligible surveys, that provided 67 results, all of which were rated as having low quality. A pooled estimate of 20% [95% CI 16-25] (10 surveys, 3619 respondents) of researchers in various health sciences reported that a senior member of their department was automatically listed as an author on all submitted articles. Furthermore, 28% [95% CI 22-34] of researchers (10 surveys, 2180 respondents) felt that this practice was 'never', 24% [95% CI 22-27] 'rarely', 25% [95% CI 23-28] 'sometimes', 13% [95% CI 9-17] 'most of the time', and 8% [95% CI 6-9] 'always justified'. The practice of automatically assigning senior members of departments as co-authors on all submitted manuscripts may be common in the health sciences; with those admitting to this practice finding it unjustified in most cases.Registration of the protocol The protocol was registered in Open Science Framework. Twenty years of research on borderline personality disorder: a scientometric analysis of hotspots, bursts, and research trends

Borderline personality disorder (BPD), a complex and severe psychiatric disorder, has become a topic of considerable interest to current researchers due to its high incidence and severity of consequences. There is a lack of a bibliometric analysis to visualize the history and developmental trends of researches in BPD. We retrieved 7919 relevant publications on the Web of Science platform and analyzed them using software CiteSpace (6.2.R4). The results showed that there has been an overall upward trend in research interest in BPD over the past two decades. Current research trends in BPD include neuroimaging, biological mechanisms, and cognitive, behavioral, and pathological studies. Recent trends have been identified as "prevention and early intervention", "non-pharmacological treatment" and "pathogenesis". The results are like a reference program that will help determine future research directions and priorities.

A brief review and scientometric analysis on ensemble learning methods for handling COVID-19

Numerous efforts and research have been conducted worldwide to combat the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. In this regard, some researchers have focused on deep and machine-learning approaches to discover more about this disease. There have been many articles on using ensemble learning methods for COVID-19 detection. Still, there seems to be no scientometric analysis or a brief review of these researches. Hence, a combined method of scientometric analysis and brief review was used to study the published articles that employed an ensemble learning approach to detect COVID-19. This research used both methods to overcome their limitations, leading to enhanced and reliable outcomes. The related articles were retrieved from the Scopus database. Then a two-step procedure was employed. A concise review of the collected articles was conducted. Then they underwent scientometric and bibliometric analyses. The findings revealed that convolutional neural network (CNN) is the mostly employed algorithm, while support vector machine (SVM), random forest, Resnet, DenseNet, and visual geometry group (VGG) were also frequently used. Additionally, China has had a significant presence in the numerous top-ranking categories of this field of research. Both study phases yielded valuable results and rankings.

The impacts of global economic policy uncertainty on green bond returns: A systematic literature review

This study utilizes the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework to investigate the interconnectedness of green bond with various financial markets, aiming to clarify their relationship with global economic uncertainty and their impact on returns. After a comprehensive search of pertinent research papers from January 2016 to September 2023, 79 relevant articles were identified. The analysis delves into the evolution of research on green bonds' interactions with economic policy uncertainty considering the financial markets, analytical methodologies, contributions to the field, and the role of green bonds under both normal and extreme market conditions. The study reveals noteworthy findings: firstly, the interplay between green bonds and financial markets is influenced by macroeconomic factors, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022, which were significant sources of economic policy uncertainty during the study period. Secondly, during times of global economic uncertainties, green Bonds act as net transmitters of spillovers in the short term but shifts to net receivers in the long term, positioning them as strategic hedging assets rather than safe-havens, particularly against spillovers from crude oil and CO2 emission in times of economic uncertainties. Additionally, the review highlights prevalent methodologies employed to assess the relationship between global economic policy uncertainty and green bonds. Some of which include quantile approaches, the Diebold & Yilmaz 2012 spillover index, as well as various models like VAR models, GARCH models, ARDL models. Notably, certain countries like China, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam emerge as key contributors to this research domain. The review not only consolidates existing knowledge but also provides valuable insights for investors and policymakers regarding green bonds in terms of risk management and asset allocation, while also pointing towards potential avenues for future research in this field.

Unraveling two decades of phyllosphere endophytes: tracing research trends and insights through visualized knowledge maps, with emphasis on microbial interactions as emerging frontiers

Phyllosphere endophytes play a critical role in a myriad of biological functions, such as maintaining plant health and overall fitness. They play a determinative role in crop yield and quality by regulating vital processes, such as leaf functionality and longevity, seed mass, apical growth, flowering, and fruit development. This study conducted a comprehensive bibliometric analysis aiming to review the prevailing research trajectories in phyllosphere endophytes and harness both primary areas of interest and emerging challenges. A total of 156 research articles on phyllosphere endophytes, published between 2002 and 2022, were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). A systematic analysis was conducted using CiteSpace to visualize the evolution of publication frequency, the collaboration network, the co-citation network, and keywords co-occurrence. The findings indicated that initially, there were few publications on the topic of phyllosphere endophytes. However, from 2011 onwards, there was a notable increase in the number of publications on phyllosphere endophytes, gaining worldwide attention. Among authors, Arnold, A Elizabeth is widely recognized as a leading author in this research area. In terms of countries, the USA and China hold the highest rankings. As for institutional ranking, the University of Arizona is the most prevalent and leading institute in this particular subject. Collaborative efforts among the authors and institutions tend to be confined to small groups, and a large-scale collaborative network needs to be established. This study identified the influential journals, literature, and hot research topics. These findings also highlight the interconnected nature of key themes, e.g., phyllosphere endophyte research revolves around the four pillars: diversity, fungal endophytes, growth, and endophytic fungi. This study provides an in-depth perspective on phyllosphere endophytes studies, revealing the identification of biodiversity and microbial interaction of phyllosphere endophytes as the principal research frontiers. These analytical findings not only elucidate the recent trajectory of phyllosphere endophyte research but also provide invaluable insights for similar studies and their potential applications on a global scale.

Unveiling the intellectual structure of informality: Insights from the socioeconomic literature

In the socioeconomic sphere, the concept of informality has been used to address issues pertaining to economic dynamics, institutions, work, poverty, settlements, the use of space, development, and sustainability, among others. This thematic range has given way to multiple discourses, definitions and approaches that mostly focus on a single phenomenon and conform to traditional disciplinary lines, making it difficult to fully understand informality and adequately inform policymaking. In this article, we carried out a multilevel co-word analysis with the purpose of unveiling the intellectual structure of socioeconomic informality. Co-occurring document keywords were used, initially, to delimit the scope of the socioeconomic dimension of informality (macro level) and, later, to identify its main concepts, themes (meso level) and sub-themes (micro level). Our results show that there is a corpus of research on socioeconomic informality that is sufficiently differentiable from other types of informality. This corpus, at the same time, can be divided into six major themes and 31 sub-themes related, more prominently, to the informal economy, informal settlements and informal institutions. Looking forward, the analysis suggests, an increasing focus on context and on the experience of multiple 'informalities' has the potential, on the one hand, to reveal links that help unify this historically fragmented corpus and, on the other hand, to give informality a meaning and identity that go beyond the traditional formal-informal dualism.

Prevalence of stress and its relevance on psychological well-being of the teaching profession: A scoping review

Background

Well-being among teachers contributes toward quality work and better student support. Teachers' well-being persists to be a concern in school settings; there is a lacuna in understanding the concept of well-being among them. This scoping review identifies the stress factors and map their association with the psychological well-being of teachers employed in schools. Additionally, to identify the methodology and the interventions used in reducing teachers' stress and their relevance on their psychological well-being.

Methods

First, Pubmed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases were searched for eligible studies with MeSH terms for stress factors, well-being, and teachers from 2010 to 2022. Identified studies were screened thoroughly and excluded or included based on prior established criteria. Data from the included studies were extracted and summarized according to the study protocol.

Results

Among the 60 studies that met our inclusion criteria, the majority were quantitative, with cross-sectional studies. Several studies focused on emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and diminished personal accomplishment aspect among teachers. Almost half of the included studies focused on organizational and social pressures such as administration workload, classroom management issues, lack of supervisor and team support, students' behaviour, and pressure from parents. The most used interventions to overcome stress were coping strategies and mindfulness training intervention tools.

Conclusions

The findings from the current scoping review will reveal the different stressors which impact psychological well-being. Focus on the most used interventions to overcome stress among schoolteachers. This will also provide recommendations to regulators and management to identify the factors causing stress among teachers and their relevance to their psychological well-being, overcome employee turnover and absenteeism issues. Also, different alternatives available to reduce the stress may benefit the stakeholders and policymakers to confirm a suitable intervention that will benefit the teaching profession.

Sleep at high altitude: A bibliometric study and visualization analysis from 1992 to 2022

Background

As an important monitoring index for adaptation to hypoxia, sleep may reflect the adaptive state of the body at high altitudes. The literature has shown a link between altitude and sleep problems, and sleep changes have become a common problem for individuals at high altitudes, negatively impacting their physical and mental health. As research on high-altitude sleep has gained attention in recent years, the publishing volume has increased worldwide, necessitating a more comprehensive understanding of this field. This manuscript evaluates the key themes and emerging trends in high-altitude sleep over the past few decades and predicts future research directions.

Methods

Articles related to high-altitude sleep published from 1992 to 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, and the relevant literature characteristics were extracted after the screening. Then, bibliometric analyses and visualizations were performed using Microsoft Excel, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and an online analysis platform (http://bibliometric.com).

Results

A total of 1151 articles were retrieved, of which 368 were included in the analysis, indicating a gradually increasing trend. The United States, Switzerland, and China have made significant contributions in this field. Bloch KE from the University of Zurich was determined to be the most productive and academically influential author in this field. The highest-yielding journal was High Altitude Medicine & Biology. Initially, altitude training was the primary research topic. Currently, research focuses on sleep disorders and sleep apnea. In the coming years, keywords such as "sleep quality," "prevalence," and "obstructive sleep apnea" will attract more attention.

Conclusion

Our findings will assist scholars to better understand the intellectual structure and emerging trends in this field. Future developments in high-altitude sleep research are highly anticipated, particularly in terms of sleep quality at high altitudes and its associated prevalence. This research is also crucial for the improvement and treatment of symptoms during nocturnal sleep in patients with chronic hypoxia due to cardiopulmonary diseases at high altitudes.

Publication Trends of Research on Intrathecal Baclofen Therapy: A Bibliometric Analysis of the Literature

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this study was to analyze the trends in publications on intrathecal baclofen (ITB) therapy.

METHODS

We searched Elsevier's Scopus database in February 2022 to find articles focused on ITB therapy. Data extracted included citation count, publication year, author's country and income category, journal and its 5-year impact factor, research type, disease requiring ITB, and target population.

RESULTS

The analysis covered 615 articles from 1985 to 2022. The average citation count per article was 27.47 (95% confidence interval 23.75-31.18) and the mean impact factor was 4.54 (95% confidence interval 3.84-5.24). The majority (76.42%) were primary research, with 8.1% being interventional and 91.9% observational. Even so, one half of the top ten most cited were interventional. Secondary research and case reports made up 12.68% and 10.73% respectively, with narrative reviews making up most of the secondary research (79.48%). Only 1 study conducted a meta-analysis. The United States was the most prolific country. High-income countries published 96.42% of articles.

CONCLUSIONS

The rising number of ITB articles and citations indicates growing interest and expanding knowledge in this field. However, there's a notable scarcity of research from low- and middle-income countries, particularly those with high prevalence of ITB-treatable diseases. The need for more evidence to overcome potential barriers to ITB implementation is emphasized. Despite an increasing number of publications, a large proportion presented low levels of evidence, such as case reports and narrative reviews, highlighting the need for more rigorous research methods to solidify the evidence base for ITB therapy.

The performance of bibliometric analyses in the health sciences

A bibliometric analysis (BA) is a knowledge synthesis methodology aimed at quantitively summarizing large amounts of bibliometric data. We aimed to summarize the performance of BAs in the health sciences. We searched Scopus for BAs in the health sciences published prior to May 10, 2023. All identified studies were included. We performed a BA on these studies in two steps: performance analysis and science mapping. For the performance analysis, various indicators of scientific production were calculated using the bibliometrix R package. For the science mapping, VOSviewer was used to generate a co-authorship network and a keyword co-occurrence network. In total, 5,828 BAs were analyzed. Scientific production has exploded in the last years, with more than 1,500 BAs published in 2022 alone. Scientific impact (i.e. citations) has also been rising, although at a lesser pace. The mean number of citations per year per BA was 1.78. China was the most productive country, publishing more BAs than the nine other most productive countries combined. China paradoxically had a lower number of citations per publication compared with the nine other most productive countries. International collaborations were rare. Common BA themes included oncology, public health, neurosciences, mental health, artificial intelligence, and COVID-19. BAs are increasingly common in the health sciences, but their performance remains limited. More international collaborations and standardized guidelines could help improve their performance, notably the frequency at which they are cited.

Evolution of global scientific collaboration in mRNA vaccine research: Insights from bibliometric and social network analysis (2010~2023)

The field of mRNA vaccines has witnessed rapid development in recent years, leading to significant changes in global scientific collaboration. In this study, a bibliometric and social network analysis was conducted to reveal the evolution of global scientific collaboration in mRNA vaccine research. Altogether 6974 articles published since 2010 were retrieved and categorized into Period 1 (2010-2019), Period 2 (2020-2021) and Period 3 (2022-2023). During Period 2 and 3, there was a significant rise in the proportion of publications involving domestic inter-institutional cooperation (42.0%, 54.0% and 59.1%, respectively in Period 1, 2, and 3), while a significant decrease in international cooperation (32.1%, 23.7% and 21.0%). More countries participated in international collaboration during Period 2 and 3, with the US, the UK and Germany remaining top three throughout all periods, while some other countries like Italy, Japan, and China experiencing significant shifts. Significant correlations between collaboration type and publication impact and between geographical distance and collaborative publication counts were detected. Furthermore, significant changes in research focuses and institutions that are major contributors in the mRNA vaccine development have been observed. In conclusion, the mRNA vaccine field has experienced rapid development over the past decade, with significant evolutions of global scientific collaboration detected in our study.

A Bibliometric Analysis of the 100 Most Cited Articles on Problem-Based Learning in Medical Education

Problem-based learning (PBL) is an instructional approach used in medical education that is characterized by solving problems in small groups with tutor guidance. More than 50 years since PBL's inception, many questions remain to be addressed about its processes and learning outcomes. The purpose of the study was to examine the bibliometric characteristics of the 100 most cited articles on PBL in medical education and to identify landmark papers that have made significant contributions to PBL research. Results were systematically reviewed for citation frequency, publication year, journal, article type, article focus, authors, author collaboration, and country collaboration. The number of citations ranged from 81 to 3531 times cited with 31,041 total citations. The articles were contributed by 211 authors in 23 journals and most articles (68%) were published in Medical Education, Academic Medicine, and Medical Teacher. The majority of the articles (71%) originated from Netherlands, Canada, and the United States and six prolific authors were identified. Almost half of the articles are classified as empirical research. Article foci included theoretical foundations of PBL, curriculum design, learning outcomes and processes, tutors, assessment, guides to PBL implementation, commentaries, and student well-being. The strong author and country collaborations indicate continued global interest in the PBL instructional method, which is likely to remain an active topic of research as the evidence of its effectiveness over traditional instructional methods as well as its most impactful components is inconclusive.

Mapping the knowledge structure and trends in Australian Indigenous health and wellbeing research from 2003 to 2022: a scientometric analysis

The health and wellbeing of Australian Indigenous peoples is a nationally sanctioned priority, but despite this, few studies have comprehensively analyzed the features and characteristics of the research in the field. In this regard, a comprehensive scientometric analysis and knowledge mapping to systematically summarize and discuss the current state of research, research trends, and emerging areas of research were conducted. Original articles and reviews published between 2003 and 2022 were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace and VOSviewer software were used to perform scientometric analysis and knowledge mapping. An examination of document and citation trends, authors, institutions, countries/regions, journals, and keywords was untaken, while co-citation, co-occurrence, and burst analysis provide insights and future development in this area. A total of 2,468 documents in this field were retrieved. A gradual increase in the number of documents over the past two decades is observed, with the number of documents doubling every ~7.5 years. Author Thompson SC and Charles Darwin University published the most documents, and 85.6% were affiliated with only Australian-based researchers. The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health is the most prominent journal publishing in the field. The most commonly co-occurring keyword was "health," and the keyword "risk" had the longest citation burst. Five keyword clusters were identified; "cultural safety" was the largest. This study articulates the knowledge structure of the research, revealing a shift from population-level and data-driven studies to more applied research that informs Indigenous peoples health and wellbeing. Based on this review, we anticipate emergent research areas to (1) reflect a more comprehensive understanding of the multidimensional factors that shape Indigenous health and wellbeing; (2) move beyond a deficit-based perspective; (3) respect cultural protocols and protect the rights and privacy of Indigenous participants; (4) address racism and discrimination within the healthcare system; (5) foster respectful, equitable, and collaborative research practices with Indigenous peoples; (6) provide culturally appropriate and effective interventions for prevention, early intervention, and treatment; and (7) ensure equitable change in systems to enhance access, quality, and outcomes in health and wellbeing.

The effect of animal-assisted interventions on the course of neurological diseases: a systematic review

BACKGROUND

In our experience, working with a therapy animal strengthens endurance, maintains motivation, provides a sense of achievement, and boosts overall mental resilience. The aims of this work were to summarize the results of quantitative research on the possibilities of animal-assisted intervention (AAI) among people with neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular diseases and to attempt to assess the effects of animal-assisted interventions in an objective manner and to find supporting evidence based on published literature.

METHODS

Our target groups are people diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, or stroke. A systematic search of relevant articles was conducted by two independent researchers in April 2021 and August 2023. The search for studies was conducted using PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Scopus, and Ovid databases, specifying keywords and search criteria. The qualitative evaluation of the research reports was conducted by four independent researchers, using the Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Form.

RESULTS

According to the scientific criteria and based on the Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Form, thirteen publications met the search criteria, out of which 9 publications were rated good and 4 publications were rated poor. Evaluating the publications we found evidence that AAI had a measurable impact on participants, as their physical and mental health status significantly improved; however, mental health improvement was more prominent.

CONCLUSIONS

By developing evidence-based research methodology and standardized research settings, AAI could be measured effectively as part of health care practice. This would bring significant benefits to the rehabilitation of patients in need.

Challenges to implement and operationalize the WEEE reverse logistics system at the micro level

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) possesses unique characteristics such as its growing production and the potential for resource extraction due to its composition. The implementation and operationalization of a reverse logistics system (RLS) for WEEE is a challenge, particularly concerning the micro level. The implementation of such systems often prioritizes urban centers and their higher population densities, generally overlooking the micro level. The latter refers to ward- or village-level divisions, which can be regarded as the smallest administrative divisions of both urban and rural areas. Furthermore, it encompasses any area facing logistical challenges regarding RLS operationalization due to factors such as geographical isolation, budgetary constraints, imbalances, social isolation, environmental aspects, and even geopolitical conflicts. This study is aimed at addressing this literature gap by discussing the challenges to implement and operationalize a WEEE RLS at the micro level. A systematic literature review was employed as our methodology. We found 13 challenges for developed and developing countries without distinction between macro and micro levels. An additional approach highlighted the significance of monitoring and controlling WEEE RLS. The challenge The population and LRS entities' lack or insufficient training and awareness received the most citations in the conducted search. These challenges were organized by operational phase and discussed from the perspective of the micro level to comprehend multifactorial local challenges involving all stakeholders in the reverse logistics of WEEE in emerging nations. This can assist local administrators and constitutes the primary contribution of this study.

Gut microbiota and autism spectrum disorders: where do we stand?

BACKGROUND

Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often have digestive problems and microbial imbalances in their guts, suggesting that these conditions may play a role in the development of the disorder. Scopus-based research on the gut microbiota and ASD was examined in this bibliometric analysis to shed light on the current state of research and identify potential hotspots for future work in this area.

METHODS

We searched documents from the Scopus database and reference citation analysis to collect published data on the gut microbiota and ASD from 2003 to 2022. The downloaded document records were exported to VOSviewer v.1.6.19 to examine and visualize the collaboration between countries and determine the research hotspots.

RESULTS

The search yielded 958 articles specifically dedicated to gut microbiota and ASD. The number of publications in this field increased rapidly after 2013, with a peak in 2022. The United States (n = 267; 27.87%) was the most active country, followed by China (n = 171; 17.85%) and Italy (n = 96; 10.02). International collaboration was observed, with the USA playing a central role. University College Cork, Ireland, was the most productive institution (n = 24; 2.51%). The National Natural Science Foundation of China was the most active funding agency (n = 76; 7.93%). Nutrients journal had the highest number of publications (n = 28; 2.92%). The articles related to gut microbiota and ASD were highly cited, with an h-index of 108. The research themes identified focused on the modulation of gut microbiota as a potential therapy for children with ASD and gut-brain axis dysfunction in ASD.

CONCLUSIONS

In recent years, the study of gut microbiota and its association with ASD has garnered considerable interest as an emergent field of study. The results of this study substantially enhance our current understanding of the knowledge landscape in this field and illuminate potential avenues for future research. It is essential to emphasize the significance of devoting more resources to the newest and most promising research areas, such as investigating the potential therapeutic benefits of modulating the intestinal microbiota in children with ASD. This research has enormous potential and merits intensified focus and investigation.

How are exclusively data journals indexed in major scholarly databases? An examination of four databases

The data paper is becoming a popular way for researchers to publish their research data. The growing numbers of data papers and journals hosting them have made them an important data source for understanding how research data is published and reused. One barrier to this research agenda is a lack of knowledge as to how data journals and their publications are indexed in the scholarly databases used for quantitative analysis. To address this gap, this study examines how a list of 18 exclusively data journals (i.e., journals that primarily accept data papers) are indexed in four popular scholarly databases: the Web of Science, Scopus, Dimensions, and OpenAlex. We investigate how comprehensively these databases cover the selected data journals and, in particular, how they present the document type information of data papers. We find that the coverage of data papers, as well as their document type information, is highly inconsistent across databases, which creates major challenges for future efforts to study them quantitatively, which should be addressed in the future.

Effects of COVID-19 on malaria elimination initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa: a scoping review protocol

INTRODUCTION

The occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted health systems, resulting in varied outcomes of different variables in terms of health. Due to the nature of the causative organism that is spread mainly in the air, the disease rapidly spread to numerous countries, leading to a series of mitigation measures being proposed and implemented, including but not limited to travel restrictions, decongesting and in some instances closure of workplaces and schools and banning of social gatherings. This could have negatively impacted implementing strategies meant to ensure the effective management of malaria, hoping to eliminate it in different countries in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). This review seeks to explore the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on malaria elimination initiatives in SSA.

METHODS AND ANALYSIS

An exploratory scoping review will be conducted on literature (searched using keywords and a search strategy) sources published in English on Web of Science, Cochrane Library, PUBMED, Dimensions, ProQuest, Scopus and African Journals Online. These would then be imported to Rayyan Software for screening for possible inclusion. The JBI Guidelines on Reviews, Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews checklist would guide the data collection, extraction and analysis from the accessed literature. Furthermore, charting, trends and developing themes would ensure the findings are presented comprehensively and yet understandable. The data collection and analysis process leading to the final submission of a review paper to a journal will be conducted from September 2023 to February 2024.

ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION

An application for ethical approval was lodged with the Health Sciences Research Ethics Committee at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa. This ethics committee granted ethics clearance (ethics number: UFS-HSD2022/1754). Results will be communicated through peer-reviewed publications, presentations, conferences, workshops and other means and forums to reach the critical stakeholders.

Knowledge domain and emerging trends in multimorbidity and frailty research from 2003 to 2023: a scientometric study using citespace and VOSviewer

BACKGROUND

Multimorbidity and frailty represent emerging global health burdens that have garnered increased attention from researchers over the past two decades. We conducted a scientometric analysis of the scientific literature on the coexistence of multimorbidity and frailty to assess major research domains, trends, and inform future lines of research.

METHODS

We systematically retrieved scientific publications on multimorbidity and frailty from the Web of Science Core Collection, spanning from 2003 to 2023. Scientometric analysis was performed using CiteSpace and VOSviewer, enabling the visualization and evaluation of networks comprising co-citation references, co-occurring keywords, countries, institutions, authors, and journals.

RESULTS

A total of 584 eligible publications were included in the analysis. An exponential rise in research interest in multimorbidity and frailty was observed, with an average annual growth rate of 47.92% in publications between 2003 and 2022. Three major research trends were identified: standardized definition and measurement of multimorbidity and frailty, comprehensive geriatric assessment utilizing multimorbidity and frailty instruments for older adults, and the multifaceted associations between these two conditions. The United States of America, Johns Hopkins University, Fried LP, and the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society were identified as the most influential entities within this field, representing the leading country, institution, author, and journal, respectively.

CONCLUSIONS

Scientometric analysis provides invaluable insights to clinicians and researchers involved in multimorbidity and frailty research by identifying intellectual bases and research trends. While the instruments and assessments of multimorbidity and frailty with scientific validity and reliability are of undeniable importance, further investigations are also warranted to unravel the underlying biological mechanisms of interactions between multimorbidity and frailty, explore the mental health aspects among older individuals with multimorbidity and frailty, and refine strategies to reduce prescriptions in this specific population.

Can green finance facilitate Industry 5.0 transition to achieve sustainability? A systematic review with future research directions

Most of the world's rising carbon emission results from industrial activities. Previous industrial revolutions did not put much thought into safeguarding the natural world. Governments worldwide have been continuously implementing regulations and policies for the mitigation of climate change to promote sustainable development. To achieve decarbonization, the climate change discussion is merged with Industry 5.0 (I5.0) where green finance (GF) plays a crucial role. This technological metamorphosis of transition from Industry 4.0 (I4.0) to I5.0 will affect humans and their society. I5.0 forms a symbiotic relationship with different aspects of Society 5.0 (S5.0) such as social (human‒machine centricity), ecological (zero emissions), and technological (green innovations). Thus, the I5.0 transition prioritizes greening the economy in pursuit of achieving S5.0. Through a systematic review of 196 articles, this research study concisely summarizes the rapidly expanding body of information. The research domain gave six major themes: Green Innovations (GI), Green Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Circular Economy (CE), Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM), Emerging Economies, and Net Zero Economy (NZE). Finally, a framework has been provided that illustrates the supporting role of GF for the I5.0 transition eventually followed by S5.0. This study provides an overview of these themes with their propositions and future research directions. The present study addresses the knowledge gap by providing valuable contributions to the burgeoning research domain of I5.0 and GF. Moreover, it aims to garner the attention of different stakeholders to integrate these two concepts of research to attain the goal of sustainable development.

Analysing the current status, hotspots, and future trends of technology management: Using the WoS and scopus database

This study presents a comprehensive overview of the development process and the latest trends in technology management (TM), laying a robust foundation for further advancements in this domain. To achieve this, we analysed 1944 TM articles from the Web of Science database and 2642 articles from Scopus, spanning the last 20 years. Employing methodologies that involve scientific knowledge graphs and bibliometrics, we analysed diverse aspects such as changes in the annual publication of articles; geographical distribution among countries, institutions, disciplines, and authors; keyword co-occurrence and clusters; and timezone view. Our findings reveal a significant surge in TM's growth in recent years, showcasing its highly promising potential. The USA is the frontrunner in contributing to TM research, followed by China and the UK. TM research is relatively concentrated in the UK, while it appears more dispersed in China. The University of Cambridge had the highest volume of research, and the disciplines of Business, Management, Engineering, and Computer Science occupied the top spots. As TM evolves, a possible challenge could be the emergence of new authoritative authors. Second, TM's vibrant landscape is characterised by hotspots such as innovation, technology strategy, technology acquisition, technology application, technology standards, and sustainable development. Among these, information and medical technologies stand out as the most frequently referenced technologies. Third, the trends in TM are as follows: innovation is subdivided into technological innovation and open innovation, bibliometric analysis and patent analysis have become pivotal methods for knowledge management, the scope of TM has expanded from internal organisational processes to encompass external aspects, and TM is gradually evolving into a mature science, with its focus transitioning from macro to micro and becoming more profound and detailed. Last, Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, big data, and the IoT represent the latest frontier technologies in the realm of TM.

The evolution of data pricing: From economics to computational intelligence

Data pricing, which aids in articulating the worth and advantages of data and encourages its opening, sharing, and circulation, is an indispensable component of data trading. Studies pertinent to the topic of data pricing are continuously developing. To undertake a thorough analysis of the literature in data pricing, we use bibliometric and statistical methods for the first time. The 373 data pricing publications from 1990 to 2023 are the study's research object. We mainly analyze the external characteristics, keyword co-occurrence and co-citation networks of data pricing. We find that data pricing has been progressing fairly quickly during the last decade. Two basic approaches have been used by researchers to study how to price various data objects: one is based on economics theory, and the other on computer science algorithms. We provide an in-depth study of the overall evolution of data pricing and give the future directions of data pricing.

Studies on HIV/AIDS Among Students: Bibliometric Analysis

BACKGROUND

In recent years, HIV infection in students has been an ongoing concern worldwide. A large number of articles have been published; however, statistical analysis of the data presented in these publications is lacking.

OBJECTIVE

This study aimed to detect and analyze emerging trends and collaborative networks in research on HIV/AIDS among students.

METHODS

Research publications on HIV/AIDS among students from 1985 to 2022 were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection. A topic search was used for this study, and articles in English were included. CiteSpace was used to generate visual networks of countries/regions, institutions, references, and keywords. Citation analysis was used to discover milestones in the field and trace the roots of the knowledge base. Keyword analysis was used to detect research hotspots and predict future trends.

RESULTS

A total of 2726 publications met the inclusion criteria. Over the past 38 years, the number of publications annually has been on the rise overall. The United States had the highest number of publications (n=1303) and the highest centrality (0.91). The University of California system was the core institution. The main target population of studies on HIV/AIDS among students were medical and university students. These studies focused on students' knowledge, attitudes, risk behaviors, and education about HIV/AIDS. The recent bursting keywords (gay, sexual health, adherence, barriers, mental health, HIV testing, stigma, and antiretroviral therapy) revealed research trends and public interest on this topic.

CONCLUSIONS

This study identified countries/regions and institutions contributing to the research area of HIV/AIDS among students and revealed research hotspots and emerging trends. The field of research on HIV/AIDS among students was growing rapidly. The United States was at the center, and the University of California system was the core institution. However, academic collaboration should be strengthened. Future research may focus on exploring gay students, sexual health, adherence, barriers, mental health, HIV testing, stigma, and antiretroviral therapy.
