Abstract
Epitope imprinting has shown better prospects to synthesize synthetic receptors for proteins. Here, dual epitope imprinted polymer electrode (DEIP) matrix was fabricated on gold surface of electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) for recognition of target epitope sequence in blood samples of patients suffering from brain fever. Epitope sequences from outer membrane protein Por B of Neisseria meningitidis (MC58) bacteria predicted through immunoinformatic tools were chosen for imprinting. Self-assembled monolayers (SAM) of cysteine appended epitope sequences on gold nanoparticles were subjected to polymerization prior to electrodeposition on gold coated EQCM electrode. The polymeric matrix was woven around the cysteine appended epitope SAMs through multiple monomers (3-sulfo propyl methacrylate potassium salt (3-SPMAP), benzyl methacrylate (BMA)) and crosslinker (N, N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide). On extraction of the peptide sequences, imprinted cavities were able to selectively and specifically bind targeted epitope sequences in laboratory samples as well as 'real' samples of patients. Selectivity of sensor was examined through mismatched peptide sequences and certain plasma proteins also. The sensor was able to show specific binding towards the blood samples of infected patients, even in the presence of 'matrix' and other plasma proteins such as albumin and globulin. Even other peptide sequences, similar to epitope sequences only with one or two amino acid mismatches were also unable to show any binding. The analytical performance of DEIP-EQCM sensor was tested through selectivity, specificity, matrix effect, detection limit (0.68-1.01 nM), quantification limit (2.05-3.05 nM) and reproducibility (RSD ~ 5%). Hence, a diagnostic tool for bacterium causing meningitis is successfully fabricated in a facile manner which will broaden the clinical access and make efficient population screening feasible.

Abstract
The development of fluorescence molecules for the fast and effective detection of L-tryptophan (L-Trp) has attracted a lot of attention because it is an important amino acid for baby growth, nitrogen equilibrium in adults, improving sleep, and mood regulation. A dimedone-phenylalanine-based chiral sensor (SDPA) was synthesized and exhibited a strong fluorescence quenching by Fe3+ and Cu2+ in a water/DMSO (3/7) solution with a detection limit of 2.29 × 10-6 M and 6.37 × 10-6 M, respectively. The factors affecting fluorescence sensings, such as the pH and competing cations, were studied. The sensor can be reused at least five times after being treated with EDTA. The Job plot, ESI-MS spectra, 1H NMR spectra, absorbance, and fluorescence titration experiments were investigated to study the mechanism of SDPA-Fe3+ and SDPA-Cu2+ complexation. The SDPA-Cu2+ complex can detect L-tryptophan and L-cysteine at trace levels by turn-on fluorescence with a detection limit of 9.35 × 10-6 M and 8.86 × 10-6 M, respectively. Moreover, applying the SDPA-Cu2+ complex for quantitative analysis of L-tryptophan in real sleep-improving capsules resulted in good recovery. The L-tryptophan level of the Elining capsule was determined at 190.8 ± 10.5 mg/g (mg L-tryptophan/g medicine), which is close to the announced quantity of 180 mg/g. Besides, the SDPA-Cu2+ complex can selectively detect free L-Try molecules and L-Try residues in proteins.

Abstract
Binding behaviours between cyclopentanocucurbit[6]uril (CyP6Q[6]) and three amino acids have been investigated by means of X-ray crystallography, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and isothermal titration calorimetry. The results showed that CyP6Q[6] forms a 1 : 2 inclusion complex with glycine, but 1 : 1 complexes with both leucine and lysine. Whereas the carboxyl group of glycine can enter the interior of the cavity of CyP6Q[6], only the alkyl chains of leucine and lysine can enter this cavity. Interestingly, leucine can adopt two different self-assembly modes upon its interaction with cucurbituril, depending on the external conditions, whereas glycine and lysine do not exhibit such behaviour.

Abstract
Prostate cancer is one of the most dangerous and deadly cancers in elderly men. Early diagnosis using prostate-specific antigen (PSA) facilitates disease detection, management and treatment. Biosensors have recently been used as sensitive, selective, inexpensive and rapid diagnostic tools for PSA detection. In this review, a variety of PSA biosensors such as aptasensors, peptisensors and immunesensors are highlighted. These use aptamers, peptides and antibodies in the biorecognition element, respectively, and can detect PSA with very high sensitivity via electrochemical, electrochemiluminescence, fluorescence and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. To improve the sensitivity of most of these PSA biosensors, different nanostructured materials have played a critical role.

Abstract
This paper demonstrated a simple and validated fluorescence enhancing method to selectively recognize and discriminate the amino acid phenylalanine (Phe). 1H NMR spectroscopy reveal that the palmatine (PAL) can be encapsulated into the cucurbit [8]uril (Q [8]) in aqueous solution to form stable 1:2 host-guest inclusion complex PAL2@Q [8], which exhibits moderate intensity fluorescence property. Interestingly, the addition of the Phe into the inclusion complex PAL2@Q [8] leads to dramatically enhancing of the fluorescence intensity. In contrast, the addition of any other natural amino acids into the inclusion complex PAL2@Q [8] gives no fluorescence variation. Furthermore, it is easy to detect the concentration of Phe in target aqueous solution according to the linear relationship between fluorescence intensity and concentration of the Phe.

Abstract
The influence of incorporation of the dopants with proton-acceptor properties into perfluorosulfonic acid cation exchange membranes (MF-4SC and Nafion), and their treatment conditions on the characteristics of Donnan potential (DP)-sensors (analytical signal is the Donnan potential) in the aqueous solutions containing asparaginate and potassium ions in a wide pH range was investigated. A silica, surface modified by 3-aminopropyl and 3-(2-imidazolin-1-yl)-propyl groups, was used as the dopant. The membranes were subjected to mechanical deformation and thermal treatment at various relative humidities. The relationship between water uptake and diffusion permeability of membranes subjected to modification and treatment and the cross sensitivity of DP-sensors based on them to counter and co-ions was studied. The multisensory systems for the simultaneous determination of asparaginate and potassium ions in a concentration range from 1.0 × 10-4 to 1.0 × 10-2 M and pH range from 4 to 8 were developed. An array of cross-sensitive DP-sensors based on MF-4SC membranes containing 3 wt.% SiO2 modified by 10 mol.% 3-aminopropyl and 3-(2-imidazolin-1-yl)-propyl was used for the potassium asparaginate hemihydrate and magnesium asparaginate pentahydrate determination in Panangin® (with an error of 2 and 4%, respectively).

Abstract
Stable bimetallic catalysts composed of CoPtx/γ-Al2O3 (x = Pt/Co molar ratio) were synthesized by wet impregnation method followed by calcination and the H2 reduction. The powders were characterized using XRD, AAS, BET, SEM, EDX, TPR, and TPO techniques. The prepared catalysts were drop casted on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) and catalytic performance was examined for hydrazine electrooxidation in alkaline medium via cyclic voltammetry (CV). All the compositions in CoPtx/γ-Al2O3 series showed high responses towards hydrazine electrooxidation, however; high activity of CoPt0.034/γ-Al2O3 catalyst inferred it as a best material with an anodic peak current (iP) response of 200 μA at 0.86 V. The prominent electrochemical (EC) responses for this composition are attributed to better accessible surface area resulting in a fast electron transfer. The CoPtx/γ-Al2O3 catalysts are reported as the robust and superior prospective materials for extensive electroanalytical and catalytic studies.

Ultra-sensitive biosensor based on genetically engineered acetylcholinesterase immobilized in poly (vinyl alcohol)/Fe-Ni alloy nanocomposite for phosmet detection in olive oil. Abstract
An ultra-sensitive screen-printed biosensor was successfully developed for phosmet detection in olive oil, based on a genetically-engineered acetylcholinesterase (AChE) immobilized in a azide-unit water-pendant polyvinyl alcohol (PVA-AWP)/Fe-Ni alloy nanocomposite. Fe-Ni not only allowed amplifying the response current but also lowering the applied potential from 80 mV to 30 mV vs Ag/AgCl. The biosensor showed a very good analytical performance for phosmet detection, with a detection limit of 0.1 nM. This detection limit is lower than the allowable concentrations set by international regulations. In addition to the good reproducibility, operational and storage stability, the developed biosensor was successfully used for the determination of phosmet in olive oil samples without any laborious pre-treatment. The phosmet recovery rate was about 96% after a simple liquid-liquid extraction.

Abstract
A chemiluminescence (CL) sensing method for amino acid discrimination based on luminol functionalized silver nanoparticles (LumAgNPs) has been developed. Luminescence emission in the presence of hydrogen peroxide under neutral conditions was characterized in three ways: the time required for the signal to appear (Ta), the time required to reach maximum luminescence (Tp), and CL intensity. These factors were found to change upon interaction of the nanoparticles with various amino acids, leading to distinct response patterns characteristic of each analyte. Seven amino acids (l-cysteine, l-proline, l-phenylalanine, l-arginine, l-threonine, l-glutamic acid, and l-tyrosine) were identified at a concentration of 10 ng/mL. This sensitivity is about 3 orders of magnitude better than that of recently reported methods based on fluorescent sensor arrays using cucurbit[n]uril and comparable to high-performance liquid chromatography. Application to 27 unknown samples gave a 96.3% success rate at the 10 ng/mL level.

Abstract
The last decade has witnessed an intensive research effort in the field of electrochemical sensors, with a particular focus on the design of amperometric biosensors for diverse analytical applications. In this context, nanomaterial integration in the construction of amperometric biosensors may constitute one of the most exciting approaches. The attractive properties of nanomaterials have paved the way for the design of a wide variety of biosensors based on various electrochemical detection methods to enhance the analytical characteristics. However, most of these nanostructured materials are not explored in the design of amperometric biosensors. This review aims to provide insight into the diverse properties of nanomaterials that can be possibly explored in the construction of amperometric biosensors.
