Abstract
BACKGROUND Weak handgrip strength and slow timed up-and-go (TUG) time are known risk factors for hospitalization among older adults; however, few studies have investigated the relationships between these physical tests and future hospitalization costs. METHODS We used data from 13,613 participants in the population-based Singapore Chinese Health Study who underwent assessment for handgrip strength and TUG time at a mean age of 74 years. Hospitalization costs for the subsequent year, among those who survived for at least one year thereafter, were ascertained via linkage with administrative healthcare finance data. We analyzed costs using a two-part model that contained a probit regression model in the first part, and a generalized linear regression model with gamma distribution and log link in the second. RESULTS Handgrip strength showed a dose-dependent inverse relationship with hospitalization costs (Ptrend<0.001). Compared to the strongest quartile, participants in the weakest quartile experienced a 38.2% (95% CI: 18.0-58.5%) increase of US$599 (US$281-US$917) in mean costs. Conversely, TUG time demonstrated a dose-dependent positive association with hospitalization costs (Ptrend<0.001). Compared to the fastest quartile, participants in the slowest quartile had a 103.0% (72.1-133.9%) increase of US$1431 (US$1002-US$1859) in mean costs. We then examined combinations of handgrip strength and TUG time. Compared to participants who were both strong and fast, participants who were either weak or slow only had 12.9-48.7% higher mean costs. Meanwhile, participants who were both weak and slow experienced a 99.9% (68.5-131.4%) increase of US$1630 (US$1116-US$2144) in mean costs. CONCLUSIONS Weak handgrip strength and slow TUG time were independently associated with increased hospitalization costs among older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study constitutes a secondary analysis of a prospective cohort aiming to evaluate the potential correlation between nutritional risk and status at admission with the occurrence of post-discharge complications and hospital readmissions in children receiving care at high resource Centres. METHODS Data was collected from 5 Canadian tertiary pediatric Centers between 2012 and 2016. Nutritional risk and status were evaluated at hospital admission with validated tools (STRONGkids and Subjective Global Nutrition Assessment [SGNA]) and anthropometric measurements. Thirty days after discharge, occurrence of post-discharge complications and hospital readmission were documented. RESULTS A total of 360 participants were included in the study (median age, 6.1 years; median length of stay, 5 days). Following discharge, 24.1% experienced complications and 19.5% were readmitted to the hospital. The odds of experiencing complications were nearly tripled for participants with a high nutritional risk compared to a low risk (OR = 2.85; 95% CI [1.08-7.54]; P = 0.035) and those whose caregivers reported having a poor compared to a good appetite (OR = 2.96; 95% CI [1.59-5.50]; P < 0.001). According to SGNA, patients identified as malnourished had significantly higher odds of complications (OR, 1.92; 95% CI, 1.15-3.20; P = 0.013) and hospital readmission (OR, 1.95; 95% CI, 1.12-3.39; P = 0.017) than to those well-nourished. CONCLUSIONS This study showed that complications and readmission post-discharge are common, and these are more likely to occur in malnourished children compared to their well-nourished counterparts. Enhancing nutritional care during admission, at discharge and in the community may be an area for future outcome optimization.

Abstract
Hand grip strength (HGS) is a key indicator of intrinsic capacity and has shown good predictive ability for morbidity and mortality. Reference values from normative populations are valuable, and such data from the Norwegian population are scarce. Normative values for the digital Jamar+ dynamometer are largely lacking.HGS was assessed in the Norwegian Tromsø study, survey 7 in 2015-2016 for 7824 participants (9324 invited) aged 40+ using a Jamar+ digital dynamometer, and three measurements for each hand were performed following the Southampton protocol. To account for non-response, full Tromsø population data, by age, education and sex, were collected from registry data from microdata.no, a service from Statistics Norway, and were then used as post-stratification weights, to provide standardized HGS values. HGS was higher in men than in women and inversely associated with age. Men and women with a history of non-communicable diseases had lower HGS than those without these conditions, while osteoarthritis was associated with lower HGS only among men. Lower height was associated with lower HGS, especially at younger ages in men. This article provides up-to-date references values for HGS in the community-dwelling population aged 40+ with or without osteoarthritis or non-communicable diseases, in Tromsø, Norway. These reference values will guide clinicians and researchers.

Abstract
Low muscle quality and a sedentary lifestyle are indicators for a slow recovery after a total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Mitochondrial function is an important part of muscle quality and a key driver of sarcopenia. However, it is not known whether it relates to recovery. In this pilot study, we monitored activity after TKA using a wrist mounted activity tracker and assessed the relation of mitochondrial function on the rate of recovery after TKA. Additionally, we compared the increase in activity as a way to measure recovery to traditional outcome measures. Patients were studied 2 weeks before TKA and up to 6 months after. Activity was monitored continuously. Baseline mitochondrial function (citrate synthase and complex [CP] 1-5 abundance of the electron transport chain) was determined on muscle tissue taken during TKA. Traditional outcome measures (Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score [KOOS], timed up-and-go [TUG] completion time, grip, and quadriceps strength) were performed 2 weeks before, 6 weeks after, and 6 months after TKA. Using a multivariate regression model with various clinical baseline parameters, the following were significantly related to recovery: CP5 abundance, grip strength, and activity (regression weights 0.13, 0.02, and 2.89, respectively). During recovery, activity correlated to the KOOS-activities of daily living (ADL) score (r = 0.55, p = 0.009) and TUG completion time (r = -0.61, p = 0.001). Mitochondrial function seems to be related to recovery, but so are activity and grip strength, all indicators of sarcopenia. Using activity trackers before and after TKA might give the surgeon valuable information on the expected recovery and the opportunity to intervene if recovery is low.

Abstract
Background: Impaired functional status is a risk factor for hospitalization in patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). The aim was to determine the influence of functional status and physical activity level on severe outcomes, including length of stay, admission to the intensive care unit (ICU), readmission, and mortality in patients with CAP. Methods: A prospective cohort study among patients hospitalized with CAP. Functional status was assessed with the Barthel index and grip strength, and physical activity level was assessed using the international physical activity questionnaire. Linear regression was used to assess the association with length of stay, and logistic regression was used to assess the risk of severe outcomes. Results: Among 355 patients admitted with CAP, 18% had a low Barthel index (<80), 45% had a low grip strength, and 75% had a low physical activity level. Low Barthel index was associated with increased risk of ICU admission (OR 3.6, 95% CI 1.2−10.9), longer length of stay (27.9%, 95% CI 2.3−59.7%), readmission within 30, 90, and 180 days (OR 2.1−2.4, p < 0.05), and mortality within 90 and 180 days (OR 4.2−5.0, p < 0.05). Low grip strength was associated with increased risk of 90 days readmission (OR 1.6, 95% CI 1.0−2.6, p < 0.05) and mortality within 30, 90, and 180 days (OR 2.6−3.2, p < 0.05). Low physical activity level was associated with increased risk of readmission within 90 and 180 days (OR 1.8−2.1, p < 0.05) and mortality within 30, 90, and 180 days (OR 3.3−5.5, p < 0.05). Conclusions: Impaired functional status and low physical activity level were associated with a longer length of stay and increased risk of ICU admission, readmission, and mortality in patients hospitalized with CAP. Routine assessment of functional status and physical activity level in clinical care could enable early identification of individuals with excess risk for a poor prognosis. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Geriatric inpatient rehabilitation aims to restore function, marked by physical performance, to enable patients to return and remain home after hospitalization. However, after discharge some patients are soon readmitted, institutionalized, or may die. Whether changes in physical performance during geriatric rehabilitation are associated with these short-term adverse outcomes is unknown. This study aimed to determine the association of changes in physical performance during geriatric inpatient rehabilitation with short-term adverse outcomes. DESIGN Observational longitudinal study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Geriatric rehabilitation inpatients of the REStORing health of acutely unwell adulTs (RESORT) cohort study of the XXXX (Melbourne, Australia) were included. METHODS The change from admission to discharge in the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) score, balance, gait speed (GS), chair stand test (CST), and hand grip strength (HGS) were calculated and analyzed using logistic regression analysis with readmission, incidence of institutionalization, and mortality, and ≥1 adverse outcome within 3 months postdischarge. RESULTS Of 693 inpatients, 11 died during hospitalization and 572 patients (mean age 82.6 ± 7.6 years, 57.9% female) had available physical performance data. Within 3 months postdischarge, 47.3% of patients had ≥1 adverse outcome: readmission was 20.8%, institutionalization was 26.6%, and mortality was 7.9%. Improved SPPB score, balance, GS, CST, and HGS were associated with lower odds of institutionalization and mortality. Improved GS was additionally associated with lower odds of readmission [odds ratio (OR) 0.35, 95% CI 0.16-0.79]. CST score had the largest effect, with a 1-point increase associating with 40% lower odds of being institutionalized (OR 0.60, 95% CI 0.42-0.86), 52% lower odds of mortality (OR 0.48, 95% CI 0.29-0.81), and a 24% lower odds of ≥1 adverse outcome (OR 0.76, 95% CI 0.59-0.97). CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Improvement in physical performance was associated with lower odds of short-term institutionalization and mortality indicating the prognostic value of physical performance improvement during geriatric inpatient rehabilitation.

Role of prehabilitation following major uro-oncologic surgery: a narrative review. World J Urol 2022; 40:1289-1298. Abstract
PURPOSE Functional status and physical independence play a key role in terms of quality of life, access to treatment, and continuity of care. Surgery, a central component of cancer treatments, leads to detrimental effects on functional capacity, which can be peculiarly relevant in vulnerable patients undergoing major procedures. Prehabilitation is a multidisciplinary intervention that uses the preoperative period to prevent or attenuate treatment-related functional decline and its subsequent consequences. This paper narratively reviews the rationale and the evidence of prehabilitation for uro-oncologic surgery. METHODS A narrative review was conducted in August 2020, aiming to: (1) identify and discuss the impact of modifiable determinants of postoperative outcomes in urology and (2) review randomized controlled trials (RCT) exploring the role of preoperative exercise, nutrition, and psychological interventions in uro-oncologic surgery. RESULTS Eight RCTs on preoperative conditioning interventions met the inclusion criteria, focusing on radical cystectomy for bladder cancer (RC) and radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer (RP). There is strong evidence that poor physical, nutritional and psychosocial status negatively impacts on surgical outcomes. Single modality interventions, such as preoperative exercise or nutrition alone, had no effect on 'traditional' surgical outcomes as length of stay or complication. However, multimodal approaches targeting postoperative functional status have shown to be effective and safe. CONCLUSION There is initial evidence on the effectiveness and safety of multimodal prehabilitation in preserving functional capacity following RC and RP. However, to date, outcomes such as complications and length of stay seem to be not affected by prehabilitation.

Abstract
Background Due to the high prevalence of malnutrition among hospitalized patients, screening and assessment of nutritional status should be routinely performed upon hospital admission. The main objective of this observational study was to evaluate the prevalence of and the risk for malnutrition, as identified by using three nutritional screening tests, and to observe whether some anthropometric and functional parameters used for nutritional evaluation were related to these test scores. Methods This single-center observational study included 207 patients admitted from the emergency department for hospitalization in either the internal medicine or surgery units of our institution from September 2017 to December 2018. The prevalence of malnutrition among this patient sample was evaluated by using the Nutritional Risk Screening (NRS-2002), the Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria. Body mass index (BMI), bioimpedance analysis (BIA), handgrip strength (HGS) and calf circumference (CC) assessments were also performed. Results According to the NRS-2002, 93% of the patients were at no risk or at low nutritional risk (NRS score < 3), and 7% were at a high nutritional risk (NRS score ≥ 3). On the other hand, according to the SGA, 46.3% of the patients were well-nourished (SGA-a), 49.8% were moderately malnourished (SGA-b), and 3.9% were severely malnourished (SGA-c). Finally, according to the GLIM criteria, 18% patients were malnourished. Body weight, body mass index (BMI), phase angle (PhA), CC and HGS were significantly lower in the patients with NRS scores ≥ 3, SGA-c and in patients with stage 1 and stage 2 malnutrition, according to the GLIM criteria. Conclusion The NRS-2002, the SGA and the GLIM criteria appear to be valuable tools for the screening and assessment of nutritional status. In particular, the lowest NRS-2002, SGA and GLIM scores were associated with the lowest PhA and CC. Nevertheless, a weekly re-evaluation of patients with better screening and assessment scores is recommended to facilitate early detection of changes in nutritional status.

Abstract
We examined the relationship between leg extensor muscle strength (LEMS) at discharge and rehospitalization within 1 year in patients with a newly implanted ventricular assist device (VAD). This study included 28 patients who had received a VAD at our institution between October 2013 and February 2019, all of whom had been discharged for 1 year. The patients were divided into two groups according to their LEMS at discharge (higher strength [group H] and lower strength [group L]), based on the median value of the 55.2 kg-force (kgf)/body weight (BW) equation. Exercise performance parameters (e.g., grip strength, 6-min walk distance, and peak VO2) and laboratory data concerning nutritional status were also collected. Nine patients (64.3%) in group L were rehospitalized within 1 year after discharge. The rehospitalization rate was significantly higher in group L than group H (p = 0.020). Compared with discharge, patients exhibited higher grip strength (56.3 vs. 48.6 kg/BW, respectively; p = 0.011), 6-min walk distances (588 vs. 470 m, respectively; p = 0.002), and peak VO2 (15.4 vs. 11.9 mL/min/kg, respectively; p < 0.001) at 1 year after discharge. However, the LEMS (57.4 vs. 58.0 kgf/BW, respectively; p = 0.798) did not increase after discharge in VAD patients who avoided rehospitalization. LEMS at discharge was associated with rehospitalization after VAD surgery; a high LEMS improves the likelihood of avoiding rehospitalization.

Abstract
Objective: Handheld dynamometers are common tools for assessing/monitoring muscular strength and endurance. Health/fitness Bluetooth load sensors may provide a cost-effective alternative; however, research is needed to evaluate the validity and reliability of such devices. This study assessed the validity and reliability of two commercially available Bluetooth load sensors (Activ5 by Activbody and Progressor by Tindeq). Methods: Four tests were conducted on each device: stepped loading, stress relaxation, simulated exercise, and hysteresis. Each test type was repeated three times using the Instron ElectroPuls mechanical testing device (a gold-standard system). Test–retest reliability was assessed through intraclass correlations. Agreement with the gold standard was assessed with Pearson’s correlation, interclass correlation, and Lin’s concordance correlation. Results: The Activ5 and Progressor had excellent test–retest reliability across all four tests (ICC(3,1) ≥ 0.999, all p ≤ 0.001). Agreement with the gold standard was excellent for both the Activ5 (ρ ≥ 0.998, ICC(3,1) ≥ 0.971, ρc ≥ 0.971, all p’s ≤ 0.001) and Progressor (ρ ≥ 0.999, ICC(3,1) ≥ 0.999, ρc ≥ 0.999, all p’s ≤ 0.001). Measurement error increased for both devices as applied load increased. Conclusion: Excellent test–retest reliability was found, suggesting that both devices can be used in a clinical setting to measure patient progress over time; however, the Activ5 consistently had poorer agreement with the gold standard (particularly at higher loads).

Abstract
PURPOSE Estimating the probability of readmission following hospitalization using prediction scores can be complex. Quality of life (QoL) may provide an easy and effective alternative. METHODS Secondary analysis of the prospective "TRIAGE" cohort. All medical in-patients admitted to a Swiss tertiary care institution (2016-2019) ≥18 years with a length of stay of ≥2 days (23,309 patients) were included. EQ-5D VAS, EQ-5D index, and Barthel index were assessed at a single telephone interview 30-day after admission. Patients lost to follow-up were excluded. Readmission was defined as a non-elective hospital stay at our institution >24 h within 1 year after discharge and assessed using area under the curve (AUC) analysis with adjustment for confounders. RESULTS 12,842 patients (43% females, median age 68, IQR 55-78) were included. Unadjusted discrimination was modest at 0.59 (95% CI 0.56-0.62) for EQ-5D VAS. Partially adjusted discrimination (for gender) was identical. Additional adjustment for insurance, Charlson comorbidity index, length of stay, and native language increased the AUC to 0.66 (95% CI 0.63-0.69). Results were robust irrespective of time to event (12, 6 or 3 months). A cut-off in the unadjusted model of EQ-5D VAS of 55 could separate cases with a specificity of 80% and a sensitivity of 30%. CONCLUSION QoL at day 30 after admission can predict one-year readmission risk with similar precision as more intricate tools. It might help for identification of high-risk patients and the design of tailored prevention strategies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Older adults are a complex population, at risk of adverse events during and after hospital stay. AIM To investigate the association of walking speed (WS) and grip strength (GS) with adverse outcomes, during and after hospitalization, among older individuals admitted to acute care wards. METHODS Multicentre observational study including 1123 adults aged ≥ 65 years admitted to acute wards in Italy. WS and GS were measured at admission and discharge. Outcomes were length-of-stay, in-hospital mortality, 1-year mortality and rehospitalisation. Length-of-stay was defined as a number of days from admission to discharge/death. RESULTS Mean age was 81 ± 7 years, 56% were women. Compared to patients with WS ≥ 0.8 m/sec, those unable to perform or with WS < 0.8 m/sec had a higher likelihood of longer length-of-stay (OR 2.57; 95% CI 1.63-4.03 and 2.42; 95% CI 1.55-3.79) and 1-year mortality and rehospitalization (OR 1.47, 95% CI 1.07-2.01; OR 1.57, 95% CI 1.04-2.37); those unable to perform WS had a higher likelihood of in-hospital mortality (OR 9.59; 95% CI 1.23-14.57) and 1-year mortality (OR 2.60; 95% CI 1.37-4.93). Compared to good GS performers, those unable to perform had a higher likelihood of in-hospital mortality (OR 17.43; 95% CI 3.87-28.46), 1-year mortality ( OR 3.14; 95% CI 1.37-4.93) and combination of 1-year mortality and rehospitalisation (OR 1.46; 95% CI 1.01-2.12); poor GS performers had a higher likelihood of 1-year mortality (OR 1.39; 95% CI 1.03-2.35); participants unable to perform GS had a lower likelihood of rehospitalisation (OR 0.59; 95% CI 0.39-0.89). CONCLUSION Walking speed (WS) and grip strength (GS) are easy-to-assess predictors of length-of-stay, in-hospital and post-discharge death and should be incorporated in the standard assessment of hospitalized patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW The major components of ERAS attenuate the inflammatory response and modulate metabolism in direction of sparing body protein and preserving function. However, these perioperative interventions might have limited effectiveness on postoperative outcomes if preoperative risk factors are not addressed and optimized. RECENT FINDINGS The preoperative metabolic perturbations characterized by insulin resistance and sarcopenia might predispose patients to a higher degree of postoperative catabolism. High-risk populations for such metabolic disturbances include elderly and frail patients, and patients with metabolic syndrome. Research on the effect of prehabilitation on perioperative metabolism is limited, but recent findings suggest that interventions designed to improve insulin sensitivity prior to surgery might represent a promising therapeutic target to minimize surgical complications. SUMMARY The present paper will discuss the metabolic implications of modulating preoperative risk factors with elements of multimodal prehabilitation, such as exercise training and nutrition.

Abstract
The elderly colorectal cancer patients tend to be frail, at nutrition risk with multiple comorbidities. In view of the stress on the body by surgery and recovery, it makes sense if patients are prepared before appropriately so that they can recover earlier and better. Prehabilitation prior to major surgery has attracted the attention of clinicians recently, and this review highlights the steps that need to be taken to implement a multidisciplinary program. Such programs requires a paradigm shift in the sense that all players need to be working in team for the benefit of patinets' outcome.

Abstract
Grip strength has been proposed as a biomarker. Supporting this proposition, evidence is provided herein that shows grip strength is largely consistent as an explanator of concurrent overall strength, upper limb function, bone mineral density, fractures, falls, malnutrition, cognitive impairment, depression, sleep problems, diabetes, multimorbidity, and quality of life. Evidence is also provided for a predictive link between grip strength and all-cause and disease-specific mortality, future function, bone mineral density, fractures, cognition and depression, and problems associated with hospitalization. Consequently, the routine use of grip strength can be recommended as a stand-alone measurement or as a component of a small battery of measurements for identifying older adults at risk of poor health status.

Muscle strength impairments are related to mobility limitations and other untoward outcomes. This narrative review, therefore, describes considerations relative to the definition and measurement of muscle strength. Thereafter, practical options for measuring muscle strength are described and their clinimetric properties are delineated. Information provided herein may help students, clinicians, and researchers select the strength tests best suited to their research needs and limitations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Decreased physical functioning is associated with malnutrition and common in acute care patients; determining loss of function is often considered part of a comprehensive nutrition assessment. Handgrip strength (HGS) and 5-meter timed walk (5m) are functional measures used in a variety of settings. This analysis sought to determine which functional measure could be added to a hospital nutrition assessment, based on its feasibility and capacity to discriminate patient subgroups. METHODS Eligible medical patients (no delirium/dementia, admitted from community; n = 1250), recruited from 5 hospitals that participated in a previous multisite action research study, provided data on demographics, HGS, 5m, nutrition status, perceived disability, and other characteristics. RESULTS Significantly more patients (z = 17.39, P < .00001) were able to complete HGS than 5m (92% versus 43%, respectively). Median HGS was 28.0 kg for men and 14.7 kg for women. Of patients who completed the 5m, mean completion time was 8.98 seconds (median, 6.79 seconds, SD = 6.59). 5m and HGS scores were significantly worse with patient-perceived disability (z = -9.56, t = 10.69, respectively; P < .0001; 95% confidence interval [CI], [7.33, 10.63]; [1.76, 3.18]). HGS was associated with nutrition status (t = 4.13, P < .001; 95% CI [2.02, 5.67]), although it showed poor validity as a single nutrition indicator. CONCLUSIONS These data indicate that HGS is a more useful functional measure than 5m when added to a hospital nutrition assessment. Determination of HGS cutpoints to identify low strength in acute care patients will promote its use.

Abstract
Background: Malnutrition in hospitalized patients is a pervasive problem in the United States. To our knowledge, although malnutrition has been acknowledged as a concern for >40 y, it has not yet been well addressed with a systematic, process improvement approach. Objectives: We aimed to characterize the current nutrition care process in US hospitals to establish a baseline for improvements. We also aimed to demonstrate the application of a web-based quality improvement tool as a simple approach to address malnutrition in hospitalized patients. Methods: We established a web-based tool to measure and assess nutrition care practices from hospital electronic medical records. Individual institutions self-selected to participate and were assigned a unique identifier to input data. Aggregated patient data from registered institutions were assessed. Data from all institutions were combined and are presented as the totals for each variable. Results: Of 243 registered users, 97 provided data and 150 reports were included in the analysis, resulting in a total of 107,106 patients. Almost all patients (89.98%) were screened for malnutrition risk within 24 h of admission, and ∼30% were at risk for malnutrition. Of those at risk, ∼65% received a registered dietitian nutritionist consultation or an order for an oral nutrition supplement. The rate of malnutrition diagnosis for those at risk was ∼14%, and <10% of patients received a recommendation or prescription for an oral nutrition supplement at discharge. Conclusions: Malnutrition remains an issue for hospitalized patients, particularly the gap between those screened as at risk and those diagnosed with malnutrition. Moreover, discharge recommendations for patients who are screened as at risk for malnutrition are also lacking. These data demonstrate that a web-based quality improvement tool could be used to capture the nutrition care practice at an institution level to provide directed approaches for addressing hospital malnutrition and improving care of patients at risk for malnutrition.

Abstract
There is increasing awareness of the detrimental health impact of frailty on older adults and of the high prevalence of malnutrition in this segment of the population. Experts in these 2 arenas need to be cognizant of the overlap in constructs, diagnosis, and treatment of frailty and malnutrition. There is a lack of consensus regarding the definition of malnutrition and how it should be assessed. While there is consensus on the definition of frailty, there is no agreement on how it should be measured. Separate assessment tools exist for both malnutrition and frailty; however, there is intersection between concepts and measures. This narrative review highlights some of the intersections within these screening/assessment tools, including weight loss/decreased body mass, functional capacity, and weakness (handgrip strength). The potential for identification of a minimal set of objective measures to identify, or at least consider risk for both conditions, is proposed. Frailty and malnutrition have also been shown to result in similar negative health outcomes and consequently common treatment strategies have been studied, including oral nutritional supplements. While many of the outcomes of treatment relate to both concepts of frailty and malnutrition, research questions are typically focused on the frailty concept, leading to possible gaps or missed opportunities in understanding the effect of complementary interventions on malnutrition. A better understanding of how these conditions overlap may improve treatment strategies for frail, malnourished, older adults.
