Abstract
Lonicera japonica Thunb.,commonly referred to as Caprifolium japonicum (Thunb.) Dum. Cours.,is a perennial herb classified under the caprifoliaceae family. It is utilized worldwide as a medicinal plant and also serves as food source and an ornamental plant. Lonicera japonica Thunb. polysaccharides (LJP) constitute one of its primary components, demonstrating a wide range of biological activities including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anti-Alzheimer's, anti-diabetic, and anti-cancer effects. This paper reviews and summarizes recent research advancements on the extraction, purification, structural characteristics, and biological activities of LJP, offering a valuable foundation and up-to-date insights for the continued development and application of LJP in pharmaceutical and functional food sectors.

Abstract
Immunostimulants represent the most innovative approach for combating shrimp diseases. They are molecules that effectively enhance the host's nonspecific defenses against invading microorganisms. However, methodological differences exist among immunostimulants based on the same source. Therefore, conducting a meta-analysis is essential to derive valid conclusions. The effect size value utilized in this study was Hedges' d. Heterogeneity among studies was assessed using the DerSimonian and Laird tests (Q-statistic). Meta-regression analysis was conducted to explore the sources of heterogeneity in treatment effects. In this study, dose served as a covariate because it was the only continuous variable that significantly contributed to the observed heterogeneity. Funnel plots and the fail-safe number were employed to assess publication bias within the datasets. The article collection process followed the PRISMA methodology. Based on the results of the meta-analysis and meta-regression conducted with 83 articles, it can be concluded that immunostimulants have a significant effect, characterized by high category standard mean difference (SMD) values, on the survival, growth, and immune response of Penaeid family shrimp. Among potential immunostimulants options, algae ingredients exhibited the most favorable effects on the survival, growth, and immune response of Penaeid family shrimp. Subgroup analysis outcomes revealed that various extraction methods significantly impacted the efficacy of immunostimulants, with the ethanol solvent method proving to be the most effective. Among different administration methods, no significant effect was observed on immunostimulant efficacy across all parameters, with positive SMD values for all administration methods. Regarding challenged test pathogens, immunostimulants were observed to enhance immune response, survival, and weight gain against various pathogens. Meta-regression results indicated that algal treatments had a lower optimal dose point, leading to decreased efficacy as the dose increased. In contrast, fungi exhibited a higher optimum dose point, resulting in increased efficacy at higher doses.

Abstract
The Penaeus vannamei is an important shrimp species with enormous commercial and ecological values. In production process, the air exposure resistance is vital for live transportation without water. We tested the air exposure resistant ability of P. vannamei, and carried out gill histological observation and gene expression analysis. The physiology and molecular response to the air exposure stress of P. vannamei was revealed. We found that body weight could affect the air exposure tolerance. Air exposure caused epithelial cell of gill filament shrinking and tissue fluid exudation within half of hour, and triggered oxidative stress response. After retrieved to water, epithelial cell shrinking and tissue fluid exudation recovered gradually, but oxidative and antioxidant response is still going on. Organisms reduced oxidative stress by regulating levels of antioxidants and antioxidant enzymes that remove reactive oxygen species (ROS) and RNA and DNA processing to repair tissue damage, and expression of apoptosis associated-genes altered. Furthermore, the survive shrimps could live steadily more than 5 days, and their gill filament recovered to normal state, proving that the damage of air exposure is reversible. These findings could be considered in the waterless live transportation of P. vannamei.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate antioxidant capacity and protection from white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) challenge of Procambarus clarkii fed trans-vp19 and trans-vp (19 + 28) genes of Synechococcus sp. PCC7942 (Syn7942). P. clarkii were fed transgenic cyanobacteria continuously for 7 days, and then infected with WSSV after 12 h starvation. The daily mortality in each group was measured for 10 days and hepatopancreas and muscle of P. clarkii were examined for enzymes phenoloxidase (PO) activity, catalase (CAT) activity, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px) activity, and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration after immunization and viral challenge at different times. Compared with the WSSV-infected crayfish in positive control group (challenge and no vaccination) and wild type group (challenge, feeding wild-type Syn7942), vp19 group (challenge, feeding Syn7942 trans-vp19 gene) and vp (19 + 28) group [challenge, feeding Syn7942 trans-vp (19 + 28) genes] significantly improved the survival rate from 0% to 60% and 56.7%, respectively. Consistently, significantly greater PO, CAT, and GSH-px activity and significantly lower MDA concentration in the vp19 and vp (19 + 28) groups compared to the control group. These results demonstrate that the trans-vp19 and trans-vp (19 + 28) gene of Syn7942 significantly facilitated the immune and antioxidant capacity of crayfish. Therefore, the trans-vp19 and trans-vp (19 + 28) genes of Syn7942 could provide protection for crayfish as an anti-WSSV oral medication.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the optimal fermentation technology of Chinese herbal medicine formula-Siwu Decoction and the effects of fermented Siwu Decoction (FSW) on the growth performance, immune response, intestinal microflora and anti microbial ability of Litopenaeus vannamei. Response to surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the fermentation process of Siwu Decoction. The optimal fermentation conditions were obtained as follows: inoculation amount of mixed strains was 4.5%, fermentation time was 36 h, and the ratio of material to liquid was 20%. A total of 1260 shrimps were selected and divided into seven groups, three in parallel in each group. The dietary level of each group was as follows: Control (No additions), USW1 (0.2% unfermented herbal medicine), USW2 (0.5% unfermented herbal medicine), USW3 (0.8% unfermented herbal medicine), FSW1 (0.2% fermented herbal medicine), FSW2 (0.5% fermented herbal medicine), FSW3 (0.8% fermented herbal medicine). The immune response and antioxidant defense ability of hemocytes and intestine were measured at 21 and 42 days of feeding and the intestinal flora and growth performance were measured at 42 days of feeding, after that, a 7-day challenge test against Vibrio harveyi was conducted. The results showed that fermented Siwu Decoction significantly improved the growth performance and body composition of Litopenaeus vannamei; significantly increased the total number of hemocytes, phagocytic activity, antibacterial activity and bacteriolytic activity of Litopenaeus vannamei, and improved the antioxidant activity of Litopenaeus vannamei; the addition of fermented Siwu Decoction significantly increased the gene expression level of hemocytes and intestinal tract of Litopenaeus vannamei, and improved the antioxidant activity of Litopenaeus vannamei. The abundance of Bacillus increased, while the abundance of Vibrio decreased. After Vibrio harveyi challenge, the cumulative mortality of FSW group was significantly lower than that of control group. Fermented Siwu Decoction may be a potential physiological enhancer in aquaculture, and can be widely used in aquaculture.

Abstract
Lonicera japonica (L. japonica) extract is rich in active substances, such as phenolic acids, essential oils, flavones, saponins, and iridoids, which have a broad spectrum of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial effect. Previous studies have demonstrated that L. japonica has a good regulatory effect on animal intestinal health, which can be used as a potential antibiotic substitute product. However, previous studies about intestinal health regulation mainly focus on experimental animals or cells, like mice, rats, HMC-1 Cells, and RAW 264.7 cells. In this review, the intestinal health benefits including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activity, and its potential application in animal production were summarized. Through this review, we can see that the effects and mechanism of L. japonica extract on intestinal health regulation of farm and aquatic animals are still rare and unclear. Further studies could focus on the regulatory mechanism of L. japonica extract on intestinal health especially the protective effects of L. japonica extract on oxidative injury, inflammation, and regulation of intestinal flora in farm animals and aquatic animals, thereby providing references for the rational utilization and application of L. japonica and its extracts in animal production.

Abstract
Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica flos) is a well-known agent of edible and medicinal value in China and its antioxidative activity makes a major contribution to its dual use. However, the compounds responsible for its antioxidative activity are still unknown. In this study, 10 batches of honeysuckle were collected from different origins in China. The fingerprints were established by HPLC technique to investigate the compounds and a 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity assay was carried out to evaluate their antioxidant activity. partial least squares regression analysis was applied to set up the regression equation between DPPH radical scavenging activity and average peak area of common peaks of fingerprints. The results showed that peaks 10 (isochlorogenic acid B), 12 (isochlorogenic acid C), 11 (isochlorogenic acid A) and 9 (cynaroside) in the fingerprints were closely related to the antioxidant activity of 50% methanol extracts of honeysuckle. This study successfully established the spectrum-effect relationship between HPLC fingerprints and DPPH radical scavenging activity and provided a general model for exploring active components with a combination of chromatography and efficacy.

Abstract
The demand for clean fuels is increasing throughout the world, with more stringent environmental regulations for transportation fuels including marine fuels, particularly regarding their sulfur content. Moreover, the quality of crude oil and derived petroleum cuts is getting lower while fossil fuels are still in high demand. Heavy oils are characterized by high sulfur content where most sulfur is found in bulky thiophenic structures difficult to remove using conventional high pressure hydrodesulfurization process. However they appeared more reactive in oxidative desulfurization (ODS) process, carried out at mild conditions without hydrogen pressure. This review focuses for the first time on the heavy fuels initially containing more than 0.5 wt.%S and upgraded by the ODS process. Different attractive approaches of the literature towards ODS are reported using homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. Recent developments in ODS assisted with ultrasound technology and the use of ionic liquid to enhance ODS efficiency will be fully detailed and discussed to better understand their viability when applied to high sulfur content, high viscosity, and high boiling point feeds.

Abstract
A 45-day feeding trial followed by an acute stress test of low salinity was done to evaluate effects of Lactobacillus plantarum on growth performance and anti-stress capability of white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). Shrimp were randomly allocated in 15 tanks (100 shrimp per tank) and divided into 5 treatments with 3 replicates. Triplicate tanks were fed with a control diet or diets containing different treatments of L. plantarum (fermentation supernatant (FS), live bacteria (LB), dead bacteria (DB) and cell-free extract (CE) of L. plantarum) as treatment groups. Growth performance including weight gain (WGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR) and specific growth rate (SGR) were determined after feeding 45 days. Anti-stress capacity was evaluated by determining the gene expression of ProPO, SOD and Lys in gut of shrimp at the end of feeding trial and again at 96 h post-stress test. Results indicated that supplementation of L. plantarum into diet had significantly improved growth performance of L. vannamei. On the other hand, L. plantarum supplementation had no significant effects on the gene expression of SOD and Lys in gut of shrimp cultured under normal condition for 45 days. Supplementation of L. plantarum had increased survivability of L. vannamei having higher survival rates compared to the control group. However, statistical analysis showed no significant difference between the control group and treatments. Compared with the control group, supplementation of L. plantarum significantly improved the resistance of L. vannamei against the stress of acute low salinity, as indicated by higher survival rate as well as higher transcript levels of ProPo, SOD and Lys gene. Our findings suggested that L. plantarum, especially cell-free extract of L. plantarum has improved the anti-stress capacity of L. vannamei and could serve as a potential feed additive that helps shrimp to overcome environmental stresses.

Abstract
SCOPE This study aimed to determine whether cherry anthocyanin (CA) and mulberry anthocyanin (MA) can alleviate oxidative stress and inflammation associated with developing obesity in mice fed with high-fat diet (HFD). METHODS AND RESULTS CA and MA were added in the daily food of mice throughout the experiment. Sixty mice were randomly divided into two groups: a low-fat diet (LFD, n = 12) group and HFD (n = 48) group. Mice in the HFD group were supplied with a HFD for 8 wks to induce obesity. The HFD-fed mice were then divided into four subgroups for another 8-wk experiment. The subgroups included the control group, HFD plus Orlistat group, and HFD plus CA or MA group, with each group consisting of 12 mice. Consumption of CA and MA at 200 mg/kg food reduced bodyweight gain by 29.6 and 32.7%, respectively, in HFD-fed C57BL/6 mice. CA and MA supplementation could effectively improve the lipid profiles, decrease serum glucose and leptin levels, reduce MDA production, increase SOD and GPX activities, and down-regulate the expression of the TNFα, IL-6, iNOS, and NF-кB genes. CONCLUSION Therefore, MA and CA can potentially alter bodyweight by alleviating oxidative stress and inflammation in diet-induced obesity.

Abstract
In this study, honeysuckle, a common Chinese herbal medicine, produced from different areas was investigated for total arsenic and arsenic species concentration. The total arsenic concentrations were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and ranged from 275 to 635 μg kg(-1). A microwave-assisted procedure with 1 % phosphoric acid (v/v) was used for the extraction of arsenic species in honeysuckle. The total arsenic species concentration found by liquid chromatography-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LC-ICP-MS) was in agreement with the total arsenic concentration determined by the ICP-MS analysis after the microwave digestion. Arsenate (As(V)) with an average proportion of 54.3 % was the predominant arsenic species in honeysuckle. The order of concentration is as follows: As(V) > arsenite (As(III)) > dimethylarsinic acid (DMA) > arsenobetaine (AsB) > monomethylarsonic acid (MMA). The proportion of organic arsenic (24.7 %) was higher than that in most terrestrial plants. Moreover, the distributions of arsenic species in the honeysuckle from different producing areas were significantly different. This study provides useful information for better understanding of the distribution of arsenic species in terrestrial plants.

Abstract
An eight-week feeding trial followed by an acute combined stress test of low-salinity and nitrite were performed to evaluate effects of chlorogenic acid (CGA) on growth performance and antioxidant capacity of white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. Shrimp were randomly allocated in 12 tanks (30 shrimp per tank) and triplicate tanks were fed with a control diet or diets containing different levels of CGA (100, 200 and 400 mg kg(-1) feed) as treatment groups. Growth performance including weight gain (WG), biomass gain (BG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and feed intake were determined after feeding for 56 days. Antioxidant capacity were evaluated by determining the activity of total antioxidant status (TAS), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), catalase (CAT) as well as the gene expression of GSH-Px and CAT in the hepatopancreas of shrimp at the end of feeding trial and again at the end of the combined stress test. The results indicated that supplemention of CGA had no significant effects on the growth performance and the activities of TAS, SOD, GSH-Px and CAT in hepatopancreas of shrimp cultured under normal conditions for 56 days. However, compared with the control group, CGA (200, 400 mg kg(-1) feed) significantly improved the resistance of L. vannamei against the combined stress of low-salinity and nitrite, as indicated by the significant (P < 0.05) higher survival, higher activities of TAS, GSH-Px and CAT, as well as higher transcript levels of GPx and CAT gene in shrimp treated with CGA in the combined tress test. Our findings suggested that CGA possessed dual-modulatory effects on antioxidant capacity of L. vannamei and could be a potential feed additive that can enhance shrimp resistance against environmental stresses. The recommended application dosage is 200 mg kg(-1) and further studies are needed to clarify the action model of CGA efficiency.

Abstract
Guava (Psidium guajava L.) leaf extracts have antiviral and antibacterial activity against shrimp pathogens such as yellow-head virus (YHV), white spot syndrome virus (WSSV), and Vibrio harveyi, which make it a potential water disinfectant for use in shrimp culture. In this study, the safety of guava leaf supplementation in shrimp was evaluated by studying its influence on growth and the non-specific immune response of Penaeus monodon. Six diets containing different levels of guava leaves (0% [basal diet], 0.025% [G1], 0.05% [G2], 0.1% [G3], 0.2% [G4], and 0.4% [G5]) were fed to groups of shrimp (1.576 ± 0.011 g body weight) in triplicate for 56 days. Growth performance (final body weight, WG, PWG, SGR) of shrimp fed guava leaf diets was significantly higher (P < 0.05) than that of shrimp fed on the basal diet. The G1 diet resulted in the highest body weight gain (308.44%), followed by the G2 (295.45%), G3 (283.05%), G5 (281.29%), G4 (276.11%), and finally the basal diet (214.58%). Survival of shrimp in the G1 diet group was higher than that of shrimp in the control and the other experimental groups; however, no statistical differences (P > 0.05) were found. Dietary supplementation with guava leaf improved the activities of prophenoloxidase (PO) and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in serum, and of superoxide dismutase (SOD), acid phosphatase (ACP), alkaline phosphatase (AKP), and lysozyme (LSZ) both in serum and hepatopancreas of shrimp. In the experimental groups, the activities of these enzymes followed a similar pattern of change; they increased initially at low levels of dietary supplementation and then decreased with increasing concentrations of dietary guava leaf. Serum PO and SOD activities in shrimp fed the G1 diet reached 7.50 U ml(-1) and 178.33 U ml(-1), respectively, with PO activity being significantly higher than in controls. In shrimp fed the G1 diet, SOD, ACP, and AKP activities in hepatopancreas were significantly higher than in the controls, reaching 57.32 U g(-1), 23.28 U g(-1), and 19.35 U g(-1) protein, respectively. The highest activities of serum ACP, AKP, LSZ, and of hepatopancreas LSZ, were observed in the G3 diet group. Total nitric oxide synthase (TNOS) activity was highest (64.80 U ml(-1)) in the G4 diet group, which was significantly higher than that observed in the control group. These results suggest that dietary guava leaf supplementation could enhance the growth performance and non-specific immune response of P. monodon. Therefore, guava leaf is considered safe for use as a water disinfectant in shrimp culture.
