Abstract
BACKGROUND Insomnia has been identified as a potential risk factor for suicidality. However, to date, few studies using the longitudinal-design have examined the underlying mechanism of this relationship. Based on a resilience perspective, this study aimed to investigate the dynamic longitudinal relationships between insomnia, resilience, and suicidality. METHODS A total of 5785 freshmen were sampled from a large-scale health-related cohort among Chinese college students. This study spanned six waves, covering the period from 2020 to 2022. Data from T1 to T4 were used because resilience was not measured at baseline (T0) and T5. The cross-lagged panel models and the latent growth curve mediation model were used to examine the longitudinal dynamic relationships between insomnia, resilience, and suicidality. RESULTS The results showed that insomnia symptoms and suicidality mutually predicted each other, and resilience played a longitudinal mediating role in linking insomnia symptoms and suicidality. CONCLUSIONS Given that resilience served as a mediator in the relation between insomnia symptoms and suicidality, some resilience-oriented prevention and intervention programs will be helpful in reducing the risk of suicide among university students.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gender dysphoria is associated with suicidality among transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) people. Gender dysphoria also results in a stress on appearance. AIMS The objectives of this study were to examine: (a) whether appearance anxiety mediates the effect of gender dysphoria on suicidality; and (b) whether gender identity moderates the mediating effect of appearance anxiety. METHOD A total of 117 769 college and university students were recruited in this cross-sectional study from Jilin Province, China. After screening based on participants' gender identity, 2352 TGD young people (aged from 15 to 25 years) were divided into three subgroups: female to male (FTM), male to female (MTF) and non-binary. Self-report inventories measured gender dysphoria, suicidality and appearance anxiety. A structural equation model was run to examine the relationships among TGD gender identity, gender dysphoria, appearance anxiety and suicidality. RESULTS Among TGD young people, gender dysphoria was significantly positively associated with suicidality (β = 0.15, 95% CI = 0.11-0.18, P < 0.001). Appearance anxiety partially mediated the association between gender dysphoria and suicidality (β = 0.07, 95% CI = 0.05-0.08, P < 0.001). Gender identity moderated the mediating effects: compared with individuals with FTM identity, among those with MTF and non-binary identities, gender dysphoria showed stronger positive effects on appearance anxiety, and appearance anxiety showed greater effects in mediating the association between gender dysphoria and suicidality. CONCLUSIONS Among TGD young people, gender dysphoria is significantly associated with suicidality via appearance anxiety, with gender identity moderating the mediating effects. Diverse treatments should consider the heterogeneity of TGD subgroups, with the aim of limiting the tendency of gender dysphoria to trigger appearance anxiety, thus further buffering against the risk of suicide.

Abstract
Background Current psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) are prevalent among adolescents. However, epidemiological data on the prevalence rate of current PLEs among college students and its clinical correlates are scarce and limited. To address this study gap, this study aimed to investigate the prevalence and correlates of current PLEs among Chinese college students. Methods A cross-sectional study was designed with a sample of 18,578 college students in China. Each participant completed a survey on social-demographic characteristics variables, PLEs, sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to explore the influential factors for PLEs among all participants and suicidal ideation among those with PLEs. Results Among Chinese college students, 40.3% of the participants reported having at least one PLE in the past month, while 7.5% had frequent PLEs. Males, age, residence location in town, left-behind experiences, poor family economic status, chronic physical illness, family history of mental disorder, BMI ≥ 28 [obesity], sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation were independent correlates for frequent PLEs. Furthermore, the prevalence of suicidal ideation among participants with frequent PLEs was 32.1%. Lower grades, sleep disturbance, depression, and anxiety were independent predictors of suicidal ideation among college students who experience PLEs frequently. Conclusion Current PLEs are widespread among Chinese college students. Suicidal ideation is largely prevalent among individuals who suffer frequent PLEs, suggesting that special measures and attention should be provided to these students based on relevant factors to prevent their suicidal ideation and behavior.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The Western Pacific region accounts for 25% of global suicide rates globally. In the last decade, however, there is a rising concern over the rate of youth suicides in the region. In line with the regional vision of reducing the rate of non-communicable diseases by 2025, the study contributes to the literature by utilizing a scoping review approach to identify psychosocial risk factors associated with youth suicide in the region. METHOD Publications on youth suicide in the Western Pacific region between 2010 and 2021 were reviewed. A total of 43 publications met the inclusion criteria and were read in full. RESULTS Psychosocial risk factors associated with suicide in each publication were identified and thematically classified into five themes: interpersonal factors, history of abuse, academic factors, work factors, and minority status. DISCUSSION Findings showed discrepancies in youth suicide research across member nations in the Western Pacific. Implications for regional policies on suicide prevention and future research were discussed.

Abstract
Childhood abuse is a significant risk factor for suicidal ideation. However, the underlying mediation mechanism necessitates further exploration. This study investigated the mediating role of core self-evaluation and negative emotions in the relationship between childhood abuse and suicide ideation in young adults. A sample of 3103 college students from 11 universities across 8 provinces in China was analyzed. Childhood abuse, core self-evaluation, negative emotions, and suicidal ideation were assessed using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ-CF), Core Self-Evaluation Scale, Affect Scale, and Beck Suicidal Ideation Scale (BSI-CV), respectively. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 19.0 and SPSS Macro Process. We found that high scores for childhood abuse were associated with elevated levels of suicidal ideation, whereas low scores for core self-evaluation were closely linked to heightened levels of negative emotions and suicidal ideation. Furthermore, core self-evaluation and negative emotions mediated the relationship between childhood abuse and suicidal ideation through three significant paths. The results demonstrate that childhood abuse can directly impact suicidal ideation in young adulthood and indirectly influence suicidal ideation by affecting core self-evaluation and negative emotions. They suggest that addressing core self-evaluation and negative emotions in individuals who have experienced childhood abuse may help prevent or treat suicidal ideation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mental health literacy (MHL) is essential to mental health. Symptoms of depression and anxiety are significant antecedents and closely related to suicide among college students. Few studies have explored the mediating role of depressive and anxiety symptoms between MHL and suicidal ideation. METHODS 5578 college students were included in the analysis. The online Wenjuanxing platform was used to collect data from November 2020 to March 2021. The bootstrapping method was used to test the mediating role of depressive and anxiety symptoms in the links between MHL and suicidal ideation. RESULTS Approximately 18.8 % of Chinese college students in our study reported having suicidal ideation. MHL exhibited a significant and negative correlation with depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and suicidal ideation, whereas depressive and anxiety symptoms correlated significantly and positively with suicidal ideation. Compared with the lowest MHL quartile, the 3rd and 4th quartiles of MHL were associated with a significantly lower risk of suicidal ideation after adjusting for various confounding factors. Depressive and anxiety symptoms partially mediated the relationship between MHL and suicidal ideation, and the mediating effect of depressive symptoms was significantly greater than that of anxiety symptoms. LIMITATIONS This study was a cross-sectional survey. Future longitudinal studies on this relation are needed. CONCLUSIONS Depressive and anxiety symptoms mediate the relationship between MHL and suicidal ideation. Comprehensive school-based specific psychological education programs are needed to improve college students' MHL and change their attitudes toward mental health services.

Abstract
Objective The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between exercise adherence and suicidal ideation in college students, as well as the mediating role of meaning in life and internet addiction. Methods A total of 1925 college students (Mage = 19.51 years, SDage = 2.393 years) were recruited by stratified cluster sampling method in Zhaoqing University, among which 890 were males and 1,035 were females. Exercise adherence, meaning in life, internet addiction and suicidal ideation were assessed by using standard scales. Data were analyzed by Pearson Correlation Analysis, and bias-correction percentile Bootstrap method. Results (1) There is a significant correlation between exercise adherence, meaning in life, internet addiction and suicide ideation; (2) meaning in life plays a significant mediating role between exercise adherence and suicidal ideation; internet addiction plays a significant mediating role between exercise adherence and suicidal ideation; meaning in life and internet addiction play a chain mediating role between exercise adherence and suicide ideation. Conclusion Exercise adherence can not only directly predict college students' suicidal ideation, but also indirectly predict college students' suicidal ideation through the independent mediation and chain mediation of meaning in life and internet addiction.

Abstract
Background We aim to investigate the long-term effects of early adversity on university students' mental health and the mitigating role of physical exercise on this effect. Methods The survey sample consisted of 895 college students. Descriptive statistics, linear regression, and moderating effect analysis were used to analyze the results. Results (1) Early adversity negatively predict mental health level (β = -0.109, t = -4.981, p < 0.01); (2) Physical exercise can effectively mitigate the long-term harm of early adversity to mental health (β = 0.039, t = 2.001, p < 0.05); compared to low-level physical exercise (b simple = -0. 067, t = -7.88, p < 0.01), high-level physical exercise can mitigate the long-term harm of early adversity to mental health (b simple = -0, 025, t = -2. 37, p < 0.01). Conclusion Early adversity affects the mental health of university students, but physical exercise can effectively mitigate this effect.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to explore the relationship between extracurricular activities, stress, and suicidal ideation and to examine the mediating effect of stress between extracurricular activities and suicidal ideation in Chinese college students. METHOD A total of 6446 college students were surveyed with a web-based online data collection system using the self-made demographic questionnaire, Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R), and the 21-Item Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21). SPSS 24.0 was used for descriptive statistics and correlation analysis, and the bootstrap method in the process procedure for SPSS Version 3.4.1 was used to construct the mediating effect model. RESULTS Gender, school grades, living area, and family income status were influencing factors for suicidal ideation, stress, and extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities were negatively correlated with stress (r = -0.083, p < 0.001) and suicidal ideation (r = -0.039, p < 0.01). Extracurricular activities had no direct predictive effect on college students' suicidal ideation (c = -0.198, CI: -0.418, 0.023), while stress had a mediating effect between extracurricular activities and suicidal ideation; the indirect mediating effect was 0.159. CONCLUSIONS Extracurricular activities indirectly predict college students' suicidal ideation through stress. A variety of extracurricular activities can decrease the stress and suicidal ideation of college students and benefit their mental health.

Abstract
Chinese college students have a high incidence of psychological problems but rarely seek professional psychological help. Despite this fact, there have been few studies of the help-seeking behavior of Chinese college students with mental health problems. This research aims to use a modified model based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to explore the intentions and behaviors of Chinese college students with psychological problems in seeking professional psychological help. A total of 319 Chinese college students were recruited to measure attitude, stigma, coping efficiency, help-seeking intention, help-seeking behavior, and demographic variables. The results showed that attitudes were the most powerful predictor of intentions to seek help, followed by coping effectiveness and stigma. In addition, a multigroup analysis showed that the model was valid across genders. Our research results show that the TPB-based model can effectively explain the intentions and behaviors of college students with psychological problems in seeking professional help. Using our results, families, schools, and society could design intervention measures to enhance students' help-seeking intentions and behaviors.

Abstract
Student populations are susceptible to the COVID-19 pandemic and may easy develop mental health problems related to their immaturity of psychological development and fluctuation of mood. However, little has been known about the effects of the pandemic on college students and the associated influencing factors. This study aimed to explore the role of psychological resilience as a mediator between general self-efficacy and mental health. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 480 Chinese college students from 12 universities in Hunan province of China. The participants responded anonymously to the Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), the Chinese version of the Resilience Scale for College Students (RSCS), and the 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). Hierarchical linear regression and structural equation modeling were used in this study. The average of GSES and RSCS scores of college students were 25.00 ± 4.68 and 137.97 ± 15.50, which were at a medium level. The average score for the GHQ-12 was 1.59 ± 1.59, and 22.03% of the college students scored ≥ 3 on the GHQ-12, indicating that they were at risk of developing mental disorders. According to the analyses of mediation effect, psychological resilience played a fully mediating role in the relationship between general self-efficacy and mental health. In conclusion, Chinese college students were at high risk of developing mental disorders during the COVID-19 period. General self-efficacy was positively associated with psychological resilience, and psychological resilience played a fully mediating role in the relationship between general self-efficacy and mental health. Future studies and interventions should aim to promote psychological resilience and general self-efficacy.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate sleep continuity, timing, quality, and disorder in relation to suicidal ideation and attempts among college students. Participants: Eight hundred eighty-five undergraduates aged 18-25 in the southwestern United States. Methods: Participants completed questionnaires on sleep, suicide risk, mental health, and substance use. Differences in sleep variables were compared by lifetime and recent suicidal ideation and suicide attempts using covariate-adjusted and stepwise regression models. Results: A total of 363 (41.0%) individuals reported lifetime suicidal ideation, of whom 172 (47.4%) reported suicidal ideation in the last 3 months and 97 (26.7%) had attempted suicide in their lifetime. Sleep disturbances were prevalent among those with lifetime suicidal ideation or a lifetime suicide attempt. Insomnia was identified as the best predictor of recent suicidal ideation, but this relationship did not survive adjustment for covariates. Conclusions: Sleep continuity, quality, and sleep disorders are broadly associated with suicidal thoughts and behaviors among college students.

Abstract
Background Recent studies have highlighted mobile phone addiction (MPA) as a potential risk of suicidal ideation. However, the mechanisms underlying that association require attention. Objective This investigation aims to examine whether the relationship between MPA and suicidal ideation would be mediated by depression, and buffered by online social support (OSS) in university students. Methods A convenient sample of 1,042 Chinese university students completed the measures of mobile phone addiction, depression, suicidal ideation, OSS in classroom settings. Moderated mediation analyses were performed to test the roles of depression and OSS in the association between MPA and suicidal ideation. Results MPA was positively associated with suicidal ideation through depression (indirect effect =. 23, 95% CI: 0.18, 0.28, p < 0.001); OSS moderated the association between depression and suicidal ideation (B = - 0.09, 95% CI: -0.13, -0.04, p < 0.001). Specifically, the effect of depression on suicidal ideation was weaker in individuals with high (versus low) OSS. OSS moderated the association between MPA and suicidal ideation (B = 0.06, 95% CI: 0.02, 0.10, p = 0.001). The influence of MPA on suicidal ideation was non-significant among individuals with high OSS but negatively significant among students with low OSS. Conclusion The results enrich the understanding of how MPA may increase suicidal ideation, and highlight the potential importance of reducing depression and enhancing OSS to prevent suicidal ideation in university students.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Suicide is a major public health concern, especially among adolescents and young adults. Although research has begun to explore the developmental trajectories of suicide-related outcomes, most have thus far focused on children and adolescents. The current study extends existing literature by identifying subgroup trajectories and related factors of college students over a two-year period. METHODS The data used in this study was obtained from an ongoing longitudinal study in Guangdong, China. A total of 3871 students participated in assessments performed at three time points at one-year assessment intervals. Growth mixture modeling (GMM) was used to estimate trajectory classes for suicidal behaviors, followed by multivariable logistic regression to explore the association between predictive factors and classes. RESULTS GMM analyses extracted two distinct trajectories of suicidal behaviors: a low-decreasing group (n = 3669, 94.8 %) and a high-increasing group (n = 202, 5.2 %). Multivariate logistic regression analyses revealed that depressive symptoms, non-suicidal self-injury, hopelessness, and childhood emotional abuse served as risk factors for the high-increasing group, while reasons for living served as protective factors. CONCLUSIONS Psychological interventions aimed at reducing the influence of risk factors and bolstering reasons to live may help to decrease the risk of suicide behaviors in college students.

Abstract
Background Suicide is one of the leading causes of death for college students. The predictors of suicidal ideation among college students are inconsistent and few studies have systematically investigated psychological symptoms of college students to predict suicide. Therefore, this study aims to develop a suicidal ideation prediction model and explore important predictors of suicidal ideation among college students in China. Methods We recruited 1,500 college students of Sichuan University and followed up for 4 years. Demographic information, behavioral and psychological information of the participants were collected using computer-based questionnaires. The Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) method was used to develop three suicidal ideation risk prediction models and to identify important predictive factors for suicidal ideation among college students. Results The incidence of suicidal ideation among college students in the last 12 months ranged from 3.00 to 4.07%. The prediction accuracies of all the three models were over 91.7%. The area under curve scores were up to 0.96. Previous suicidal ideation and poor subjective sleep quality were the most robust predictors. Poor self-rated mental health has also been identified to be an important predictor. Paranoid symptom, internet addiction, poor self-rated physical health, poor self-rated overall health, emotional abuse, low average annual household income per person and heavy study pressure were potential predictors for suicidal ideation. Conclusions The study suggested that the RBFNN method was accurate in predicting suicidal ideation. And students who have ever had previous suicidal ideation and poor sleep quality should be paid consistent attention to.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the prevalence of suicidal ideation (SI), plans and attempts, and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) among students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Furthermore, we explored the mediating effects of depression, anxiety, alcohol and substance use on the association between ADHD and suicidal behaviors and NSSI. METHOD Participants were first-year undergraduate students (n = 1,829) recruited as part of the World Mental Health International College Student Initiative. Participants completed validated clinical measures online. RESULTS The prevalence of suicide behaviors and NSSI were significantly higher among students with ADHD than those without. Mediation analyses indicated that ADHD directly and indirectly increased suicidal behaviors and NSSI. While ADHD increased suicidal behaviors and NSSI through depression, ADHD and the co-variates age and gender also had indirect effects on suicidal behaviors via substance use. CONCLUSIONS Specific predictors of risk were identified for students with ADHD which may inform the development of more targeted mental health and suicide prevention strategies across campuses.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mental health problems are becoming increasingly common among college students, including depression, anxiety and sleep disturbances, which can affect their daily life and learning and even lead to suicide. The purpose of this study was to explore the gender differences in mental health symptoms among Chinese college students. METHODS The study population included 29,099 college students. All participants were assessed with the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7), the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and the Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R). We assessed and compared network and centrality in females and males separately, as well as students with suicidal ideation. RESULTS Satisfaction with current sleep pattern (I4), worry about different things (A3) and irritable (A6) appeared to be the most central symptoms in the female network. In the male network, satisfaction with current sleep pattern (I4), tired or little energy (D4) and feeling down, hopeless (D2) were the most central symptoms. In both suicidal ideation networks, the top five central symptoms included four anxiety symptoms and one sleep symptom. LIMITATIONS This study used cross-sectional data and could not examine the dynamic relationship between symptoms. CONCLUSION There were gender differences in college students' mental health network. In addition to poor quality sleep, the central symptoms of the female network were anxiety symptoms, while those of the male were mainly depression symptoms. There were no gender difference in the suicidal ideation network and the central symptoms were anxiety symptoms and difficulty falling asleep.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent research suggested that COVID-19-related multiple mental health problems were associated with an increased risk for suicidal ideations (SIs), but population-based data demonstrating these associations are scarce. This study aimed to estimate the cumulative effects of psychological risk factors on SIs during the outbreak and remission periods of COVID-19 using a cumulative risk model, as well as sex differences. METHODS A total of 68,685 college students in China participated in the survey during two phases of the pandemic (T1 and T2). Mental health risks (acute stress, depression, anxiety, insomnia, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms) and sociodemographic characteristics were measured at T1, and SIs were assessed at T1 and T2. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to determine the combined effect of multiple mental health problems on SIs at T1 and T2. RESULTS The prevalence of SIs increased from the early periods of the COVID-19 pandemic (7.6%) to the later periods (10.0%). Depression was a powerful risk factor for SIs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Individuals with >3 mental risks would be most likely to experience rapidly increasing SIs during the early periods of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sex exerted different effects on the cumulative risk model of SIs. CONCLUSIONS Interventions, such as mental health education and improving utilization of student support services, should be implemented. There is a crucial need for early intervention and prevention efforts aimed at males with greater than three mental health problems.

Abstract
This study aims to investigate the patterns and predictors of suicidal ideation (SI) trajectories among college students during extended lockdowns in China. A three-wave survey was conducted during the outbreak period, remission period, and prevention period of COVID-19. Distinct patterns of SI trajectories were established by grouping respondents based on temporal changes in SI. Multivariate logistic regressions were performed to examine predictors for delay-occurrence and persistent SI. From a total of 35,516 college students included in the study, rates of SI increased significantly from T1 to T2 (7.3% v. 9.4%) and from T2 to T3 (9.4% v. 12.6%). Five SI trajectories were observed: resilient (80.5% of the sample), recovery (3.6%), relapsing/remitting (4.8%), persistent dysfunction (2.3%) and delayed dysfunction (8.7%). Further, junior-year undergraduates, postgraduates, only-child families, mental health history, confirmed cases in the community of residence, depressive symptoms, and negative coping strategies were significant predictors of distinct SI trajectories, whereas greater social support, more positive coping strategies, and better family functioning were associated with a lower probability of developing delayed or persistent dysfunction during the lockdown period. These findings suggest that continuous preventive and intervening measures for college students during COVID-19 lockdowns are of global importance, particularly among vulnerable groups who experience the most distress.

Abstract
The number of mental health problems in children and adolescents has been increasing. One of the causes of mental health problems is trauma in the family, such as childhood adversities. The aim of this study was to review the relationship between childhood adversities and mental health problems. The method in this study was a systematic review using three databases: CINAHL, PubMed, and SCOPUS. The results of the review were reported according to the PRISMA guidelines. The keywords used in this study were mental health or mental illness or mental disorder or psychiatric illness AND adolescents or teenagers or teenagers or youth AND parental divorce or parental separation OR parental death or parental loss or parentally bereaved. The inclusion criteria for the articles were English language and published from 2017 to 2021. This study recorded 477 articles, screened according to the topic, and then the final articles were 35. The results of the systematic review showed evidence that childhood adversities were related to mental health problems according to the ICD-10 diagnosis, ADHD and personality disorders, depression, post-traumatic, smoking behavior, and alcohol abuse, and distress. Interventions for children with childhood adversities were needed to prevent mental health disorders.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the prevalence of and factors associated with suicidal ideation among university students in Bangladesh. We collected cross-sectional data from 407 students aged between 18 and 27 years at Jahangirnagar University (Dhaka, Bangladesh), using a convenience sampling technique. Of the total sample, 13.8% reported having suicidal ideation during the past 12 months. In multiple logistic regression analysis, being female, being a fifth-year student, lower socioeconomic status, exposure to traumatic events, family suicide history, and depression were associated with suicidal ideation. The findings emphasize the need for appropriate support services for university students with a focus on mental health wellbeing and suicide prevention.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is an important cause of blindness globally, and its prevalence is increasing. Early detection and intervention can help change the outcomes of the disease. The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years has led to new possibilities for the screening and diagnosis of DR. An AI-based diagnostic system for the detection of DR has significant advantages, such as high efficiency, high accuracy, and lower demand for human resources. At the same time, there are shortcomings, such as the lack of standards for development and evaluation and the limited scope of application. This article demonstrates the current applications of AI in the field of DR, existing problems, and possible future development directions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Suicide is a major public health safety concern among youth. Childhood emotional abuse is one of the most widely recognized risk factors for suicidal behaviors. However, little is known about the role of sleep problems and emotion dysregulation in this relationship. METHODS This study is part of a large-scale health-related cohort among Chinese college students. A total of 7434 participants who completed the first three waves of data collection were used for data analysis. All participants completed questionnaires regarding childhood emotional abuse (Wave 1), sleep problems and emotional dysregulation (Wave 2), and suicidal behaviors (Wave 3). Mediation analyses with bootstrapping were conducted to investigate the mediating role of sleep problems and emotional dysregulation in the relationship between childhood emotional abuse and suicidal behaviors. RESULTS The results showed that the prevalence of childhood emotional abuse and suicidal behaviors were 8.7% and 5.9%, respectively. Findings from mediation analysis showed that sleep problems and emotional dysregulation served both parallel and sequential mediating roles in the relationship between childhood emotional abuse and suicidal behaviors. LIMITATIONS All measures were based on self-report instead of objective assessments or clinical diagnostic evaluations. CONCLUSIONS Psychological interventions aimed at developing healthy sleep habits and emotion regulation skills may be helpful in decreasing the risk of suicidal behaviors, especially for suicide ideators with childhood emotional abuse.

Abstract
RESUMO Objetivo Estimar a prevalência e analisar os fatores associados à ideação suicida em estudantes de ensino médio e superior. Métodos Estudo epidemiológico, transversal, analítico, realizado em Montes Claros, MG, Brasil. Para a coleta de dados, aplicou-se um questionário contendo questões relativas às características sociodemográficas, escolares, ocupacionais e de estilo de vida, e às condições socioafetivas e psíquicas. Investigou-se a ideação suicida por meio de um item do Inventário de Depressão de Beck. Na análise de dados, efetuou-se estatística descritiva das variáveis e a Regressão Logística hierarquizada para avaliar os fatores associados à ideação suicida. Resultados Constatou-se prevalência de ideação suicida de 11,6% entre estudantes do ensino médio e de 9,8% no ensino superior. No ensino médio, os fatores associados foram: sexo feminino (RO: 2,14; IC 95%: 1,39-3,27), uso de drogas (RO: 3,25; IC 95%: 1,40-7,52), consumo de álcool (RO: 2,50; IC 95%: 1,54-4,04), sentimento de raiva e hostilidade (RO: 1,73; IC 95%: 1,05-2,87) e síndrome de burnout (RO: 2,27; IC 95%: 1,31-3,95). No ensino superior, identificaram-se os fatores: ausência de companheiro (RO: 2,19; IC 95%: 1,68-4,14), turno de estudo noturno (RO: 0,51; IC 95%: 0,36-0,72), consumo de tabaco (RO: 1,74; IC 95%: 1,05-2,91), ausência de pensamento otimista (RO: 2,66; IC 95%: 1,75-4,03), adicção em internet (RO: 1,64; IC 95%: 1,08-2,50) e alto hábito de checagem corporal (RO: 1,69; IC 95%: 1,15-2,50). Sono prejudicado (RO: 1,62; IC 95%: 1,02-2,59; RO: 1,62; IC 95%: 1,05-2,51), interação dialogada prejudicada (RO: 3,04; IC 95%: 1,93-4,82; RO: 2,66; IC 95%: 1,81-3,92), sentimento de desapontamento e tensão (RO: 4,80; IC 95%: 2,97-7,77; RO: 4,02; IC 95%: 2,69-6,02) foram fatores associados nos dois grupos, respectivamente. Conclusão Houve importante prevalência de ideação suicida, associada a fatores sociodemográficos, do estilo de vida, socioafetivos e psíquicos.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Suicidal ideation (SI) has a high risk in adolescents and is now a significant concern due to its problematic outcome. However, few systemic studies of suicidal ideation have been conducted in adolescent patients. Therefore, the current study was aimed to assess the prevalence and its clinical correlate of suicidal ideation among adolescent patients with depression. METHODS A total of 1635 adolescent patients (748 males/ 887 females) with depression were recruited in this study. The clinical and demographic data were collected by a self-administered questionnaire. Suicidal ideation was assessed by interview. Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) was used to evaluate depressive symptoms, Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List (ASLEC) was used to assess the stressful life events. RESULTS The study showed that the prevalence of suicidal ideation in adolescent depression patients was 38.2% (625/1635). Compared to the non-SI patients, SI patients had greater scores on CDI and ASLEC, had inadequate sleeping time, and were more likely to be females. Further logistic regression analysis indicated that suicidal ideation in adolescent patients with depression was significantly associated with females, inadequate sleeping time, the severity of depression, and higher learning pressure. LIMITATIONS No causal relationship could be drawn due to the cross-sectional design. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest a high prevalence of suicidal ideation in adolescents with depression. Moreover, the severity of depression, sex, sleep time, and learning pressure are all related to suicidal ideation. Early recognition and treatment of suicidal ideation can effectively prevent the occurrence of suicide among adolescent patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND College students are at-risk populations of mental health problems and risky sexual behaviors. However, little literature focuses on the association between mental health problems and risky sexual behaviors. Our study examined the association between mental health problems (depressive symptoms, suicide, and mental disorders) and risky sexual behaviors among a large sample of Chinese college students. METHODS A total of 49,728 Chinese college students (47.5% male) eventually participated in the analysis. A self-administered questionnaire was used to measure mental health, risky sexual behaviors (casual sex, no condom use at last sexual intercourse, group-sex, and a high number of sexual partners), and other sociodemographic characteristics. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the relationship between mental health and risky sexual behaviors. To ensure the data is representative of the nation's statistics, all analyses were weighed. RESULTS The prevalence of depressive symptoms, suicide ideation and suicide attempts, and mental disorders was 42.83%, 41.29%, and 7.74%, respectively. 26.13% of participants were sexually active in the previous twelve months. Nearly 35% of sexually active participants were engaged in risky sexual behaviors. Logistic regression results demonstrated that mental health problems were associated with risky sexual behaviors after adjusting confounders. LIMITATIONS cross-sectional analysis; The self-reported variables may be subject to recall bias and fraud. CONCLUSIONS There is a relatively high prevalence of mental health problems and risky sexual behaviors amongst Chinese college students. A significant association between mental health problems and risky sexual behaviors was suggested by our study. Our findings support the importance of advocating for mental and reproductive healthcare for college students.

Abstract
COVID-19, the most severe public health problem to occur in the past 10 years, has greatly impacted people's mental health. Colleges in China have reopened, and how to prevent college students from suffering secondary damage due to school reopening remains elusive. This cross-sectional study was aimed to evaluate the psychological impact of COVID-19 after school reopening and explore via machine learning the factors that influence anxiety and depression among students. Among the 478 valid online questionnaires collected between September 14th and September 20th, 74 (15.5%) showed symptoms of anxiety (by the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale), and 155 (32.4%) showed symptoms of depression (by Patient Health Questionnaire-9). Descriptive analysis of basic personal characteristics indicated that students at a higher grade, having relatives or friends who have been infected, fearing being infected, and having a pessimistic attitude to COVID-19 easily experience anxiety or depression. The Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) was utilized to counteract the imbalance of retrieved data. The Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) and multivariate logistic regression were performed to explore significant influence factors. The results indicate that exercise frequency, alcohol use, school reopening, having relatives or friends who have been infected, self-quarantine, quarantine of classmates, taking temperature routinely, wearing masks routinely, sleep quality, retaining holiday, availability of package delivery, take-out availability, lockdown restriction, several areas in school closed due to COVID-19, living conditions in the school, taking the final examinations after school reopening, and the degree to which family economic status is influenced by COVID-19 are the primary influence factors for anxiety or depression. To evaluate the effect of our model, we used 5-fold cross-validation, and the average area under the curve (AUC) values of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves of anxiety and depression on the test set reached 0.885 and 0.806, respectively. To conclude, we examined the presence of anxiety and depression symptoms among Chinese college students after school reopening and explored many factors influencing students' mental health, providing reasonable school management suggestions.

Abstract
Background Suicidal behaviour amongst college students constitutes a significant social and public health problem globally. This study determined the prevalence and associated factors of suicidal ideation amongst students of higher education in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM), South Africa. Methods In this institution-based cross-sectional study, a multistage cluster sampling of 826 participants, drawn from a college in NMBM, was conducted from January to March 2020. Data were collected with a standardised self-administered questionnaire. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to identify the factors associated with suicidal ideation. Results Participants’ ages ranged from 18 to 24 years, with a mean age of 20.49 years (standard deviation, 1.88 years). The lifetime prevalence of suicidal ideation and plans in the preceding 12 months were 24.5% and 9.6%, respectively. The odds of suicidal ideation were higher in students who experienced bullying (adjusted odds ratio [AOR], 1.89; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.35–2.65), mental illness (AOR, 1.89; 95% CI, 1.35–2.65), a history of sexual assault (AOR, 2.50; 95% CI, 1.20–5.21) and experience of sexual assault by or to a close family member (AOR, 1.69; 95% CI, 1.01–2.82). Underlying chronic illness was associated with a twofold risk for suicidal ideation in both sexes. Conclusion About a quarter of the students sampled at the college had experienced suicidal ideation and some had had suicidal plans in the preceding 12 months. Screening for the identified risk factors amongst the student population coupled with prompt interventions would mitigate the risk of suicide in the study population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Suicidal ideation (SI) among college students is frequently reported. However, the mediating roles of depressive and anxiety symptoms between attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms and SI has yet to be explored among college students. METHOD A cross-sectional survey of college freshmen in China was conducted between October 2018 and December 2018. Standardized questionnaires were used to collect information on basic sociodemographic characteristics, including SI, ADHD symptoms, and anxiety and depressive symptoms. A structural equation model (SEM) was then constructed. RESULTS A total of 904 college freshmen were included in the analysis. The prevalence of ADHD symptoms and lifetime SI were 11.9% (95% CI: 9.9%-14.2%) and 29.2% (95% CI: 26.3%-32.2%), respectively. The SEM revealed that there were no direct paths from inattention, executive dysfunction, and hyperactivity to SI. Under the mediating role of anxiety and depressive symptoms, executive dysfunction (β = 0.011, p < 0.05) and hyperactivity (β = 0.015, p < 0.05) had indirect relationships with the risk of SI, and the role of inattention was not identified. Depressive and anxiety symptoms had direct influences on increasing SI. There also were indirect effects from anxiety symptoms to SI, which were mediated by depressive symptoms (β = 0.023, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The current study indicated the indirect relationships between ADHD symptoms and SI among college freshmen. The findings could provide useful clues for clinical treatment and school-based prevention that aims to improve college students' mental well-being.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep disturbance can be an important predictor associated with suicide behaviors. However, to date, few studies have examined the prospective relationships between different types of sleep disturbance and suicidal behaviors. The current study examined which sleep disturbance types were independent risk factors for subsequent suicidal behaviors in a large sample of Chinese college students. METHODS Data came from a large-scale health-related cohort study in Guangdong, China. Participants were 11,740 college students initially assessed in March and April in 2019 and reassessed six month later. Self-administered structured questionnaires were used to assess suicidal behaviors, insomnia, nightmares, sleep disordered breathing (SDB) symptoms, restless legs syndrome (RLS) symptoms, depression, substance abuse and demographic characteristics. A series of logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine the associations between different types of sleep disturbance and suicidal behaviors. RESULTS Overall, 12.2% and 1.2% of college students reported suicidal ideation and attempts at baseline, and 8.6% and 2.4% reported similar behavior at follow-up. After adjustment for key covariates and prior suicidal behaviors, frequent nightmares (AORs = 1.35-1.69) and RLS symptoms (AOR = 1.37) at baseline predicted subsequent suicidal ideation, and only frequent nightmares (AOR = 2.40) at baseline predicted subsequent suicidal attempts. LIMITATIONS All measures were based on self-report instead of objective assessments or clinical diagnostic evaluations. CONCLUSIONS Frequent nightmares and RLS symptoms were independently associated subsequent suicidal ideation or attempts. Screening and managing sleep disturbance may be helpful for reducing the risk of suicidal behaviors among college students.

Abstract
To clarify the risk factors for suicide among university students, we collected the data of students who died of any cause from 1992 to 2017 from the accident records of the Yamaguchi University. Sociodemographic and clinical data from the health examination and medical records of the university were examined. Chi-squared analysis was used. Of the 93 students who died, 48 were suicide cases over 26 years. Overall suicide rate was 17.4/100,000 persons. No longitudinally significant difference in suicide rate was seen between the same-age population (1998-2017; 20.0) and the university students. Higher risk of suicide in students was seen among males (odds ratio [OR] =3.5, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.49-8.22; 1992-2017), those who did not undertake a health examination in the year when they died by suicide (OR =5.82, 95% CI =2.41-14.04), and those who had usage history in the center for mental health consultations (OR =23.29, 95% CI =9.03-60.07) from 2006 to 2017. Characteristic risk factor was that they had undergone no health examination, representing unfavorable attitudes towards seeking help. We propose that the annual health examination should be used as a place for creating awareness for mental health problems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression-Revised (CESD-R) is a widely used tool to screen for depression in the general population. An Arabic version of the CESD-R has not yet been translated and validated. Thus, this article reports the findings of two studies that were conducted to examine the psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the CESD-R. METHODS Both studies were conducted using cross-sectional designs among college students from two large universities in Jordan. A total of 988 students were recruited from University A and 251 from University B. Data were collected using self-report measures of depression, perceived stress, and quality of life. Exploratory factor analysis was performed followed by a series of confirmatory factor analyses to compare different versions of the Arabic CESD-R. Measurement invariance was performed across both samples and gender of participants. RESULTS The analyses revealed that the goodness-of-fit indices for the 20-item version of the Arabic CESD-R are not supported. Alternatively, a shorter version (CESDR-12) was created and the results supported its reliability, validity, and measurement invariance. This version, compared to a 10-item version, is supported theoretically as the items are more reflective of the DSM-V criteria for diagnosing depression. LIMITATIONS The specificity and sensitivity of the CESDR-12 were not evaluated in this article. CONCLUSION The Arabic CESDR-12 is a reliable, valid tool to screen for depression. Considering the prevalence and potential consequences of depression among college students, this tool could be used to identify those at risk and provide timely counseling and interventions.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION there is increasing levels of stressors and hardship among higher education students especially in low and middle income countries. Higher education institutions have an important role to play in the provision of robust and comprehensive support for students who experience stressors and hardship. Research and action in this area has however not been prioritized by the institutions in Zimbabwe. This study examined students´ expression of their experience with stressors and problems of studying in higher education in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe. METHODS the study employed a qualitative approach using the phenomenology approach. Three institutions of higher education in the eastern border highlands of Zimbabwe were considered. Four focus group discussions were conducted with eight participants in each group. A one-to-one semi-structured interview with eight individual participants was also conducted to further examine the issues raised in the focus groups. Data were analyzed thematically using the Silences Framework theoretical model. RESULTS five overarching themes emerged from the analysis: (i) the stress of completing assessments without adequate learning materials. (ii) Unfair placement workload results into poor assessment outcomes. (iii) College-life is more difficult due to financial constraints. (iv) Marital problems interfering with college work: there is no mental health service available. (v) Enduring pains of bereavement with no emotional support or helpline. CONCLUSION the study recommends the need to develop an inter-ministerial mental health strategy for institutions of higher learning with the view of implementing policies that address students suffering in Zimbabwean HE institutions.
