Abstract
Heterocyclic Quaternary Phosphonium Salts (HQPS) have emerged as promising chemicals for organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. However, the present synthetic methodology of this type of compound is still limited. Here, we report a deconstructive reorganization strategy based on Brønsted acid-mediated tandem 1,4 addition/intramolecular cyclization of triphenylphosphine derivatives and in situ generated o-AQMs for the first time. This protocol provides a novel approach to heterocyclic quaternary phosphonium salts. The method also features a non-metal catalyst, mild reaction conditions, high efficiency and wide substrate scope. Moreover, a series of obtained heterocyclic phosphonium salts can be converted to isotopically labelled 2-benzofuran compounds directly by simple deuteration reactions.

Abstract
Herein, we demonstrate the application of unsymmetrical iodonium salts towards S-arylation of heterocyclic thiols (especially tetrazole-5-thiols and pyridine-2-thiol) under metal-free conditions, affording a diverse range of di(hetero)aryl thioethers in moderate to good yields. A detailed study on the effects of counter-anions and the auxiliary of iodonium salts was conducted. Suitable auxiliary selection of the unsymmetrical iodonium salt offers flexibility for a wide range of aryl moieties and its incorporation into S-arylation. The DFT study supports the experimental observations of chemoselective arylation.

Abstract
Tunable electron-accepting properties of the cationic phosphorus center, its geometry and unique preparative chemistry that allows combining this unit with diversity of π-conjugated motifs, define the appealing photophysical and electrochemical characteristics of organophosphorus ionic chromophores. This Minireview summarizes the achievements in the synthesis of the π-extended molecules functionalized with P-cationic fragments, modulation of their properties by means of structural modification, and emphasizes the important effect of cation-anion interactions, which can drastically change physical behavior of these two-component systems.

Abstract
Asymmetrically substituted tertiary phosphines and quaternary phosphonium salts are used extensively in applications throughout industry and academia. Despite their significance, classical methods to synthesize such compounds often demand either harsh reaction conditions, prefunctionalization of starting materials, highly sensitive organometallic reagents, or expensive transition-metal catalysts. Mild, practical methods thus remain elusive, despite being of great current interest. Herein, we describe a visible-light-driven method to form these products from secondary and primary phosphines. Using an inexpensive organic photocatalyst and blue-light irradiation, arylphosphines can be both alkylated and arylated using commercially available organohalides. In addition, the same organocatalyst can be used to transform white phosphorus (P4 ) directly into symmetrical aryl phosphines and phosphonium salts in a single reaction step, which has previously only been possible using precious metal catalysis.

Abstract
Late-stage functionalization (LSF) of heteroarenes can dramatically accelerate SAR studies by enabling the installation of functional groups that would otherwise complicate a synthetic sequence. Although heteroaryl halides and boronic esters have well-established chemistries for LSF, alternatives that enable site-selective C-H functionalization are highly attractive. Recently, three unrelated cationic groups (phosphonium, pyridinium, and thianthrenium), which can replace C-H bonds late stage, have been identified as precursors to various functional groups. This review will discuss the synthesis and application of these three salts with an emphasis on their use for LSF and application to medicinal chemistry.

Abstract
Photocatalytic generation of phosphoranyl radicals is fast emerging as an essential method for the generation of diverse and valuable radicals, typically via deoxygenation or desulfurization processes. This Perspective is a comprehensive evaluation of all studies using phosphoranyl radicals as tunable mediators in photoredox catalysis, highlighting how two distinct methods for phosphoranyl radical formation (radical addition and nucleophilic addition) can be used to generate versatile radical intermediates with diverse reactivity profiles.

Abstract
The visible-light-induced arylation of tertiary phosphines with aryl(mesityl)iodonium triflates to produce the quaternary phosphonium salts occurs under mild, metal, and catalyst-free conditions. Photo-excited EDA complexes between diaryliodonium salts and phosphines supposedly enable this transformation, which is difficult to achieve through the traditional ground-state reactions. Demonstrating high functional group tolerance, broad scope, and complete selectivity of the aryl group transfer, the method is particularly compatible with sterically congested phosphines, which are challenging under metal-based catalytic methods.

Abstract
Carbon-carbon double bond (C=C) formation is a crucial transformation in organic chemistry. Visible-light photoredox catalysis provides economical and sustainable opportunities for the development of novel and peculiar organic reactions. Here we report a method for the olefination of alkyl halides with aldehydes by visible-light photoredox catalysis using triphenylphosphine as a reductive quencher (103 examples). This transformation accommodates a variety of aldehydes including paraformaldehyde; aqueous formaldehyde; 2,2,2-trifluoroacetaldehyde monohydrate; 2,2,2-trifluoro-1-methoxyethanol; and other common aldehydes. The present method exhibits several advantages, including operational simplicity, mild reaction conditions, wide functional group tolerance, and amenability to gram-scale synthesis. We anticipate that it will be widely used in the synthesis of organic molecules, natural products, biological molecules, and polymers. General olefination of benzyl halides and bromoacetamides with aldehydes Operational simplicity and mild conditions under visible-light photoredox catalysis Wide substrate scope and high efficiency Amenability to gram-scale synthesis
