Abstract
OBJECTIVES This systematic review aimed to assess the association between psychosocial factors in the workplace and menstrual abnormalities or fertility, focusing on literature implementing a prospective cohort design. METHODS We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES, and Japan Medical Abstracts Society electronic databases for studies published from inception to February 26, 2020, and updated the search in PubMed on May 29, 2024. Inclusion criteria were (P) adult female workers (over 18 years old), (E) presence of adverse psychosocial factors at work, (C) absence of adverse psychosocial factors at work, and (O) any menstrual cycle disorders, menstrual-related symptoms, or fertility issues. Prospective cohort studies were included. The included studies were summarized descriptively. RESULTS Database searching yielded 14,238 abstracts, with nine studies meeting the inclusion criteria. Outcomes included fertility (n = 5), irregular menstrual cycle (n = 1), early menopause (n = 1), endometriosis (n = 1), and serum hormones (n = 1). Study findings included that women with high job demands and low job control were less likely to conceive, and working over 40 h per week and frequent heavy lifting, and rotating night shift work increased the risk of earlier menopause. Studies on night shift/rotating work and fertility outcomes showed no significant differences. CONCLUSION This review underscores the insufficient high-level evidence regarding the association of psychosocial factors at work with fertility and menstrual disorders, emphasizing the necessity for future well-designed studies.

Abstract
This narrative review explores the relationship between psychological stress and ovulatory disorders, focusing on the molecular mechanisms involved. Ovulation is regulated by the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis, and disruptions in this axis can lead to ovulatory dysfunction. Chronic psychological stress affects the HPO axis, resulting in abnormalities in hypothalamus hormone secretion, pituitary hormone release, and ovarian function. These disruptions cause ovulation disorders and menstrual irregularities. The mechanisms by which psychological stress affects ovulation involve alterations in neuropeptides and hormones, activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, impairment of follicular development, generation of oxidative stress, and the decline in ovarian reserve function. Understanding these mechanisms is crucial for developing interventions to restore reproductive health. Psychological interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, have shown promise in improving ovulation and pregnancy rates in women with ovulatory disorders. Further research is needed to explore the specific mechanisms of these interventions and optimize treatment strategies. Addressing psychological factors is essential in managing reproductive health and ovulatory disorders.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) is a disorder characterized by impaired ovarian function. Sleep disorders are disruptions of the circadian rhythm, which appears to be closely linked to reproductive systems. This study aimed to investigate the impact of poor sleep quality on the ovarian reserve of childbearing-age women. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted in China from June 2021 to March 2023. In total, 102 participants diagnosed with chronic insomnia disorder were included in the study. Questionnaires were administered to assess participants' menstrual patterns, insomnia severity, anxiety, and depression. The anti-Müllerian hormone level and the basal antral follicle count were measured for ovarian reserve evaluation. Correlation analysis and ordinal logistic regression analysis were conducted. RESULTS The women with insomnia presented high percentages of hypomenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome, and dysmenorrhea (78.4%, 74.5%, and 46.1%, respectively). Severe sleep disorder in the past month was identified as an independent risk factor for hypomenorrhea and premenstrual syndrome (odds ratio [OR], 2.64 and OR, 2.688; p<0.05). The prevalence of DOR among women with insomnia (33.3%) was significantly higher than the average reported in previous studies for young women. Insomnia duration exceeding 1 year was determined to be an independent risk factor for DOR in women aged 36 to 40 years (OR, 4.5; p=0.033). CONCLUSION This study highlights the association between sleep disorders and menstrual problems. Prolonged poor sleep quality in women aged 36 to 40 years was identified as a significant risk factor for DOR. We should pay more attention to improving sleep quality in order to maintain normal ovarian function.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to examine the association between neighborhood poverty and ovarian reserve. METHODS Among 1,019 healthy premenopausal women in the Ovarian Aging Study, aggregate exposure to neighborhood poverty was examined in relation to biomarkers of ovarian reserve, antimüllerian hormone (AMH) and antral follicle count (AFC). Specifically, the interaction of age-x-neighborhood poverty was assessed cross-sectionally to determine whether AMH and AFC declines across women may be greater in women exposed to more neighborhood poverty. Neighborhood poverty was assessed by geocoding and linking women's residential addresses in adulthood to US Census data. RESULTS Independent of covariates, a significant interaction term showed the association between age and AMH varied by degree of exposure to neighborhood poverty in adulthood ( b = -0.001, P < 0.05). AMH declines increased progressively across women exposed to low, medium, and high levels of neighborhood poverty. In addition, main effects showed that higher neighborhood poverty was related to higher AMH in the younger women only ( b = 0.022, P < 0.01). Results related to AFC were all nonsignificant ( P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Across women, greater aggregate exposure to neighborhood poverty in adulthood was related to lower ovarian reserve, indexed by AMH. In addition, there was a positive association between neighborhood poverty and AMH in younger women that attenuated in the older women. Together, results suggest that neighborhood disadvantage may have detrimental impacts that manifest as initially higher AMH, resulting in greater ovarian follicle loss over time. However, it remains unclear whether these results examining differences across women may replicate when AMH declines by neighborhood poverty are examined longitudinally.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Although a public health crisis, intimate partner violence (IPV) has been understudied for middle-aged women with mood disorders during their perimenopausal and postmenopausal years. The aims of this study were to examine the relationship between IPV and hot flashes/night sweats (HF/NS) frequency and severity among women with mood disorders and to test whether the effect of cognitive behavioral group therapy on menopausal symptoms differs between those with and without IPV at baseline and post-test. METHODS Of 59 participants from a mood disorders outpatient clinic enrolled in the parent study, 24 experienced IPV. This study analyzed pretreatment and post-treatment data from the Revised Conflict Tactic Scale - Short Form-2, and HF/NS frequency and severity ratings on the Hot Flash Daily Diary using the McNemar chi-square test. RESULTS The presence of any type of violence at pretreatment was significantly (p < 0.01) linked to improvements in HF/NS frequency and severity. Women who showed improvements in negotiation skills had better outcomes in menopausal symptoms. Sexual coercion increased from one to three women. CONCLUSIONS Negotiation skills may help women with mood disorders to reduce HF/NS frequency and severity. More studies need to be conducted with a special focus on helping women in this population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are reported in more than half of the women in the United States and have been shown to negatively impact the menopause experience. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between ACEs and age at natural menopause. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study conducted among participants of the Data Registry on the Experiences of Aging, Menopause, and Sexuality (DREAMS). The registry included women who were seen for consultations in the women's health clinic at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, between May 2015 and December 2016. Only postmenopausal women were included in this analysis. Childhood adversity was assessed with the validated ACE questionnaire. Age at natural menopause was self-reported. The association between ACEs and age at menopause was evaluated using a multivariable linear regression model adjusting for multiple confounders. RESULTS A total of 350 women were evaluated. The mean age was 59.2 years, and a majority were White (92.9%), married/partnered (82%), and educated (91.2% with at least some college education). Women with a history of at least four ACEs were estimated to reach natural menopause 1.3 years sooner than women with no ACE in multivariable analysis, but the results were not statistically significant (95% confidence interval, -3.2 to 0.6; P = 0.18). CONCLUSIONS Although stressful life experiences such as ACEs may negatively influence health for midlife women, this study did not find an association with the age at natural menopause.

Abstract
The ovarian reserve is defined as the quantity of oocytes stored in the ovary or the number of oocytes that can be recruited. Ovarian reserve can be affected by many factors, including hormones, metabolites, initial ovarian reserve, environmental problems, diseases, and medications, among others. With the trend of postponing of pregnancy in modern society, diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) has become one of the most common challenges in current clinical reproductive medicine. Attributed to its unclear mechanism and complex clinical features, it is difficult for physicians to administer targeted treatment. This review focuses on the factors associated with ovarian reserve and discusses the potential influences and pathogenic factors that may explain the possible mechanisms of DOR, which can be improved or built upon by subsequent researchers to verify, replicate, and establish further study findings, as well as for scientists to find new treatments.

Abstract
Importance Fibroids are benign uterine tumors that can cause significant morbidity. Knowledge on fibroid prevalence, especially in the asymptomatic population and in Asian and Hispanic or Latina individuals, is limited, and a better understanding of affected groups will improve timely diagnosis and motivate appropriate recruitment in clinical trials to reduce health disparities. Objective To estimate the prevalence of fibroids in a diverse cohort of female individuals. Design, Setting, and Participants This cross-sectional study included female individuals not seeking treatment for fertility or other conditions who were prospectively recruited in an academic medical center in San Francisco, California. Effort was made to recruit an equal proportion of participants from 4 large racial and ethnic groups in the United States (Asian-Chinese, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latina, and White) and across 4 equal age groups between 25 and 45 years. All participants reported regular menses (21-35 days), had not used estrogen- or progestin-containing medications in the 3 months prior to enrollment, and denied history of pelvic surgery. The assessment of ultrasonography results was part of an ongoing longitudinal cohort, with initial recruitment from October 2006 to September 2012. Data analysis was performed in April to September 2022. Main Outcomes and Measures Fibroid presence and burden as assessed by transvaginal ultrasonography. Results A total of 996 female participants were included in the analysis, including 229 (23.0%) Asian-Chinese, 249 (25.0%) Black or African American, 237 (23.8%) Hispanic or Latina, and 281 (28.2%) White individuals. Mean (SD) age was 34.8 (5.7) years in Asian-Chinese participants, 35.4 (6.1) years in Black or African American participants, 34.8 (5.3) years in Hispanic or Latina participants, and 35.3 (5.0) years in White participants. Fibroids were present in 21.8% (95% CI, 16.7%-27.8%) of Asian-Chinese participants, 35.7% (95% CI, 29.8%-42.0%) of Black or African American participants, 12.7% (95% CI, 8.7%-17.6%) of Hispanic or Latina participants, and 10.7% (95% CI, 7.3%-14.9%) of White participants. Black or African American and Asian-Chinese participants were more likely to have fibroids than White participants (Black or African American: adjusted odds ratio [OR], 4.72 [95% CI, 2.72-8.18]; P < .001; Asian-Chinese: adjusted OR, 3.35 [95% CI, 1.95-5.76]; P < .001). In those with fibroids, the proportion with multiple fibroids were 48.3% in Black or African American participants, 33.3% in White participants, 33.3% in Hispanic or Latina participants, and 26.0% in Asian-Chinese participants (P = .06). The largest mean (SD) fibroid diameter was 3.9 (1.9) cm in Black or African American participants, 3.2 (1.6) cm in Asian-Chinese participants, 3.2 (1.6) cm in White participants, and 3.0 (1.4) cm in Hispanic or Latina participants (P = .03). Conclusions and Relevance In this study of female participants in a nonclinical setting, Black or African American and Asian-Chinese participants were disproportionately affected by uterine fibroids. Hispanic or Latina participants had similar fibroid burden to White participants.

Abstract
It is well established that chronic psychological stress (PS) induces female reproductive dysfunction. However, the studies on the consequences of chronic PS exposure precisely targeting ovarian reserve are lacking. In the present study, we employed a chronic scream sound-induced PS model to investigate the potential effect of pure psychosocial stressors on ovary reserve. Female rats were subjected to scream sound stress, white noise, or background for 3 weeks. Animals were euthanized by cervical dislocation after stress for collection of blood or ovaries. Sex hormones were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The follicle number was examined by histopathology. Granulosa cell apoptosis of the ovaries was examined by in situ cell death detection kit. Finally, rats were mated with proven fertile male rats to study fertility parameters. Female rats exposed to scream sound were presented with reduced weight gain and sucrose preference, while immobility time in forced swim test and serum corticosterone concentration were significantly increased. Scream sound stress sequentially decreased plasma anti-Müllerian hormone and estradiol concentration, induced primordial and preantral follicles loss, augmented granulosa cell apoptosis in ovarian growing follicles, and eventually decreased litter sizes. Based on these results, we suggest that chronic PS induced loss of ovarian reserve by accelerated primordial follicle activation and destruction of growing follicles, which results in follicle depletion and decreased fertility.

Abstract
Low ovarian reserve is a serious condition, leading to sterility in up to 10% of women in their mid-thirties. According to current knowledge, serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels for age are the best available marker for the screening the quantity of a woman's functional ovarian reserve, better than age alone or other reproductive markers. This review summarizes recent findings, clinical utility and limitations in the application of serum AMH testing as an accurate marker for the screening of functional ovarian reserves and predicting age at menopause. AMH assessment hold promise in helping women make informed decisions about their future fertility and desired family size. However, screening of the functional ovarian reserve could be offered to all women at 26 years of age or older who seek to assess future fertility or in case of personal request, ovarian reserve screening may be considered beyond 30 years; however, it has never been advocated beyond 35 years, since it is not advisable to delay childbearing beyond this age. In this respect, an age-specific serum AMH levels lower than the 10th percentile may be used as a threshold for the identification of a low functional ovarian reserve in an individual woman. Its level should be interpreted with caution in the adolescent and young women aged below 25 years (since AMH levels peak at this age); recent users of hormonal contraceptives (since AMH levels transiently decrease until two months after discontinuation); and women with PCOS (which dramatically increases AMH levels). However, the ability of AMH levels to predict the time to menopause is promising but requires further investigation and routine AMH testing for the purposes of predicting the time to menopause is not recommended.

Abstract
The objective of this study is to investigate a possible correlation between anxiety status and anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) levels among healthcare professionals who provide medical care directly to COVID-19-positive patients during the recent pandemic. Fifty-two healthcare professionals (nurses, midwives, and residents) who provide medical care directly to COVID-19-positive patients in inpatient clinics or intensive care units were enrolled in this study. Serum AMH levels were analyzed to reflect ovarian reserve. The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-S and STAI-T, respectively) were completed by participants to assess their anxiety status. A linear regression model with participant age as the constant variable was applied to analyze the relationship between inventory scale scores and AMH levels. P-values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. The mean AMH value was significantly lower for the participants in the moderate/severe anxiety group compared to the minimal/mild anxiety group (p = 0.007). A linear regression analysis revealed a significant negative correlation between AMH levels and both BAI (B = -0.030, standard error = 0.010, p = 0.004) and STAI-S and STAI-T scores when age was controlled (both p = 0.003). The severity of anxiety experienced during the recent COVID-19 pandemic among healthcare professionals, who provide medical care directly to COVID-19-positive patients, is found to be related to low AMH levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Natural vegetation, or greenness, is thought to improve health through its ability to buffer and reduce harmful environmental exposures as well as relieve stress, promote physical activity, restore attention, and increase social cohesion. In concert, these effects could help mitigate the detrimental effects of air pollution on reproductive aging in women. METHODS Our analysis included 565 women attending the Massachusetts General Hospital Fertility Center (2004-2014) who had a measured antral follicle count (AFC), a marker of ovarian reserve. We calculated peak residential greenness in the year prior to AFC using 250 m2 normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) from the Terra and Aqua satellites operated by the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Validated spatiotemporal models estimated daily residential exposure to particulate matter <2.5 μm (PM2.5) for the 3 months prior to AFC. Poisson regression models with robust standard errors were used to estimate the association between peak greenness, average PM2.5 exposure, and AFC adjusted for age, BMI, smoking status, education, year, and season. RESULTS Women in our study had a mean age of 35.2 years with a standard deviation (SD) of 4.3 years (min: 20 years, max: 45 years). The peak residential NDVI ranged from 0.07 to 0.92 with a SD of 0.18. There was no statistically significant association between peak residential greenness and AFC; however, higher exposure to PM2.5 was associated with lower AFC (-6.2% per 2 μg/m3 [1 SD increase] 95% CI -11.8, -0.3). There was a significant interaction between exposure to PM2.5 and peak greenness on AFC (P-interaction: 0.03). Among women with an average PM2.5 exposure of 7 μg/m3, a SD increase in residential peak greenness was associated with a 5.6% (95% CI -0.4, 12.0) higher AFC. Conversely, among women with a PM2.5 exposure of 12 μg/m3, a SD increase in residential peak greenness was associated with a 5.8% (95% CI -13.1, 2.1) lower AFC. CONCLUSIONS Residing in an area with high levels of greenness may slow reproductive aging in women only when exposure to PM2.5 is low.

Abstract
AIMS To investigate the impact of occupation types on age at natural menopause. METHODS This is a nation-wide cross-sectional study based on 17,948 female workers aged over 40, who come from different industries or organizations. A face-to-face standardized questionnaire was conducted in all participants with the help of occupational hygienists. Occupational titles were coded according to the International Standard Classification of Occupations (2008) (ISCO08). Cox regression model was used to assess the association between each independent occupation and menopausal timing. Models were adjusted for marriage, education, average annual family income, parity, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption. RESULTS Higher risks of earlier age at natural menopause was found among legislators and senior officials (ISCO Minor group:111, HR = 2.328, P < 0.001), among other health associated professionals (ISCO Minor group: 325, HR = 1.477, P = 0.003), the workers involved in mining and mineral processing (ISCO Minor group: 811, HR = 1.515, P = 0.048) and metal processing and finishing (ISCO Minor group: 812, HR = 1.722, P < 0.001). Reduced risks of earlier age at natural menopause, including: finance professionals (ISCO Minor group: 241, HR = 0.751, P = 0.021), manufacturing and construction supervisors (ISCO Minor group: 312, HR = 0.477, P = 0.002), administrative and specialized secretaries (ISCO Minor group: 334, HR = 0.788, P = 0.045), cleaners and helpers (ISCO Minor group: 911, HR = 0.633, P = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS This is the first study to address the influence of occupation types on reproductive aging, showing some specific occupations could be associated with age at natural menopause. Further investigations are necessary to clarify whether it is chance finding or a true association.

Abstract
Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is characterized by symptoms caused by ovarian dysfunction in patients aged <40 years. It is associated with a shortened reproductive lifespan. The only effective treatment for patients who are eager to become pregnant is IVF/Embryo Transfer (ET) using oocytes donated by young women. However, the use of the technique is constrained by the limited supply of oocytes and ethical issues. Some patients with POI still have some residual follicles in the ovarian cortex, which are not regulated by gonadotropin. These follicles are dormant. Therefore, activating dormant primordial follicles (PFs) to obtain high-quality oocytes for assisted reproductive technology may bring new hope for patients with POI. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the factors related to PF activation, such as the intercellular signaling network, the internal microenvironment of the ovary and the environment of the organism. In addition, we discussed new strategies for fertility preservation, such as in vitro activation and stem cell transplantation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the association of sleep parameters on female and male reproductive functions. DESIGN Systematic review. SETTING Not applicable. PATIENT(S) Female and male individuals, either healthy or infertile. INTERVENTION(S) Relevant articles were identified according to the The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses recommendations in the PubMed and EMBASE databases from January 1, 2000 to June 8, 2020. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) The association between sleep and ovary function, spermatic function, natural fertility, and in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes was assessed. RESULT(S) A total of 33 studies that looked at the association between sleep and either ovary function (n = 10), spermatic function (n = 12), natural fertility (n = 5), or IVF outcomes (n = 6) were included. Overall, female and male fertility, as well as IVF outcomes may be affected by short sleep duration, evening chronotype, or shift/night work schedules. However, the results were hardly comparable due to the heterogeneous study methodologies used. CONCLUSION(S) Sleep may be an original and innovative parameter to consider in the reproduction field. Further investigation is needed to elucidate how sleep and fertility are interrelated and how sleep might constitute a useful modifiable target in infertility management.

Abstract
CONTEXT Controversy exists regarding if and how body mass index (BMI) impacts antimüllerian hormone (AMH) in women with and without polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Understanding the BMI-AMH relationship has critical implications for clinical interpretation of laboratory values and could illuminate underlying ovarian physiology. OBJECTIVE To test the hypotheses that (1) BMI is associated with reduced AMH in PCOS and ovulatory controls (OVAs) and (2) the reduction in AMH is not accounted for by dilutional effects. DESIGN/SETTING Multicenter cohort. PARTICIPANTS Women aged 25 to 40 years from 2 clinical populations: 640 with PCOS, 921 women as OVAs. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Ovarian reserve indices: AMH, antral follicle count (AFC), and AMH to AFC ratio (AMH/AFC) as a marker of per-follicle AMH production. RESULTS In both cohorts, increasing BMI and waist circumference were associated with reductions in AMH and AMH/AFC, after adjusting for age, race, smoking, and site in multivariate regression models. Increasing BMI was associated with reduced AFC in PCOS but not OVAs. Body surface area (BSA), which unlike BMI is strongly proportional to plasma volume, was added to investigate a potential dilutive effect of body size on AMH concentrations. After controlling for BSA, BMI retained independent associations with AMH in both cohorts; BSA no longer associated with AMH. CONCLUSIONS In an adjusted analysis, BMI, but not BSA, was associated with reduced AMH; these data do not support a role for hemodilution in mediating the relationship between increased body size and reduced AMH. Decreased AMH production by the follicle unit may be responsible for reduced AMH with increasing BMI.

Abstract
Background
Previous studies reported that self-reported stress, stressful life events, and psychological distress influence ovarian ageing and response. However, there are limited, yet conflicting findings on the effect of stress and psychological distress on serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) as a biomarker of ovarian reserve, response, and ageing. This case-control study aimed to determine if stress and psychological distress levels were associated with serum anti-Müllerian hormone levels among 81 infertile and 109 fertile women of reproductive age attending the gynaecology and immunization clinics of a tertiary hospital in North-central Nigeria, respectively. Stress and psychological distress were measured using the Perceived Stress scale-10 and Kessler Psychological Distress Scale-10, respectively. The serum concentration of AMH was determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays.
Results
There was a significantly higher stress (p = 0.001) and psychological distress (p = 0.005) levels among infertile women; however, there was no difference in serum anti-Müllerian hormone levels between the two groups (p = 0.409). There was no significant correlation found between perceived stress and serum anti-Müllerian hormone in both infertile (r = 0.041, p = 0.719) and fertile (r = − 0.090, p = 0.353) women. There was also no correlation between psychological distress and serum anti-Müllerian hormone in the infertile (r = − 0.020, p = 0.860) and fertile (r = − 0.049, p = 0.636) groups. Controlling for age and body mass index in multivariate linear regression; stress and psychological distress were not significantly associated with serum anti-Müllerian hormone (B = − 0.005; p = 0.370 and B = − 0.001; p = 0.811).
Conclusion
Self-reported stress and psychological distress are not associated with serum anti-Müllerian hormone levels in infertile and fertile women of reproductive age. Also, ovarian ageing was accelerated in infertile women when compared to fertile women; however, this does not appear to be related to stress or psychological distress. More research is needed to understand factors that may contribute to this accelerated decline.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after 12 months of unprotected intercourse. It affects approximately one in six couples seeking pregnancy in France or western countries. Many lifestyle factors of the couples' pre and peri-conceptional environment (weight, diet, alcohol, tobacco, coffee, drugs, physical activity, stress, sleep…) have been identified as risk factors for infertility in both males and females. The high prevalence rates of unhealthy diets and lifestyles in the reproductive population of industrialized countries are worrisome. Nevertheless, adoption of a healthy lifestyle may improve fertility but lifestyle changes are difficult to achieve and to maintain due notably to behavioral factors. METHODS Consequently, we decided to propose an interventional study aimed at improving the quality of life of infertile couples before the start of assisted reproductive technology treatment. It is a randomized controlled multicentre trial. Both members of the couples are involved in an integrated global care program (PEPCI for "Parcours Environnement PériConceptionnel en Infertilité") vs. usual care. This global intervention not only considers diet and/or physical activity but follows a holistic approach, including a multidisciplinary assessment to address complete physical, psychological and social well-being. According to patient needs, this includes interventions on weight, exercise, diet, alcohol and drugs, mental and social health. DISCUSSION The main objective of trial is to demonstrate that periconceptional multidisciplinary care has a positive impact on reproductive functions. We will also focus on feasibility, acceptance, compliance and conditions of success of a multifaceted lifestyle intervention. TRIAL REGISTRATION The trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov, Identifier: NCT02961907 on November 11, 2016.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This 6-week, prospective, single-arm study examined the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of cognitive behavioral group therapy in peri- and postmenopausal women with mood disorders (major depression or bipolar) and problematic vasomotor menopausal symptoms. METHODS 59 participants from an outpatient clinic with mood disorders and problematic vasomotor symptoms were enrolled. The primary outcomes were change from baseline to 6 weeks in Hot Flush Night Sweat Problem Rating, Hot Flash Related Daily Interference, and Quality of Life. Secondary outcomes were change in Hot Flush Frequency, depression, anxiety, perceived stress, anhedonia, beliefs and cognitive appraisals of menopause. ClinicalTrials.gov [identifier: NCT02860910]. RESULTS On the Hot Flush Night Sweat Problem Rating, 39.3% improved 2 or more points, which was clinically relevant. Changes in Quality of Life (p = .001) and the Hot Flash Related Daily Interference Scale were also significant (p < .001). Significant results were found on most secondary outcomes (hot flush frequency on the Hot Flush Daily Diary, depression, anxiety, perceived stress (p < .001) and anhedonia (p = .001). One of six subscales (control subscale) on the cognitive appraisal of menopause significantly improved (p < .001). Three subscales on the beliefs measure did not change significantly (p = .05, p = .91, and p = .14). Six-week study retention was robust (N = 55, 93%) and 94.2% of individuals reported that cognitive behavioral group therapy sessions were useful. CONCLUSION This exploratory study suggests that CBGT is acceptable, feasible, and efficacious in women with mood disorders and problematic menopause vasomotor symptoms. Further studies are needed using more rigorous and controlled methods.

Abstract
Chronic psychological stress has been considered to be a remarkable contributor to diminished ovarian reserve (DOR). However, there is a lack of a psychological stress-induced DOR animal model. We aim to validate the effects of an 8-week chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) paradigm on the ovarian reserve and reproductive hormone secretion of C57BL/6 mice. We found that after an 8-week CUS exposure, the numbers of primordial and preantral follicles and corpus luteum were significantly decreased in CUS model mice. Model mice also presented higher serum follicle-stimulating hormone, corticosterone levels and lower luteinizing hormone, estradiol, testosterone, anti-Müllerian hormone levels compared to those of control mice. Furthermore, we found that FSH receptor and AMH proteins were downregulated in model mouse ovaries. Although a significant litter size difference between the two groups was not found, the ovarian reserve remained significantly lower in the model group 6 weeks after CUS exposure. These results validated the hypothesis that the 8-week CUS paradigm that we adopted could induce the DOR phenotype in C57BL/6 mice and probably had a long-term adverse effect on ovarian reserve. Therefore, our results indicate that we have successfully established an animal model of psychological stress-induced DOR that can be used for further study.

Abstract
CONTEXT The relationship between reproductive and cardiometabolic aging is unclear. It is unknown if the relationship differs across different clinical populations. OBJECTIVE To determine whether markers of ovarian reserve are associated with cardiometabolic risk in reproductive aged women with unexplained infertility (UI), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and regularly cycling women (OVA). DESIGN AND SETTING Cross-sectional data from 8 US-based academic centers. PARTICIPANTS Women aged 25-40 from 3 clinical populations: 870 with UI, 640 with PCOS, and 921 community-based OVA. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Multivariable linear regression models were used to relate anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) and antral follicle count with cardiometabolic parameters including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), fasting glucose and insulin, homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), lipids, and C-reactive protein. RESULTS In age and study site-adjusted models, AMH inversely related to BMI in the UI and OVA groups (P = 0.02 and P < 0.001). Among women with PCOS, AMH inversely related to BMI (P < 0.001), and also to WC (P < 0.001), fasting insulin (P < 0.01), HOMA-IR (P < 0.01), triglycerides (P = 0.04), and C-reactive protein (P < 0.001) and directly related to higher total (P = 0.02), low-density lipoprotein (P < 0.01), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P < 0.01). In OVA, AMH also varied inversely with WC (P < 0.001), fasting insulin (P = 0.02), and HOMA-IR (P = 0.02). Adjustment for BMI eliminated associations in the OVA group but in PCOS, the relationship of AMH to total (P = 0.03) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P = 0.003) remained. CONCLUSION Associations observed between AMH and cardiometabolic indices are largely explained by BMI in women with and without PCOS. (J Clin Endocrinol Metab XX: 0-0, 2019).

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW To delineate the current state of evidence on the impact of night shift work on age at natural menopause. RECENT FINDINGS The only direct evidence is from a single observational study, which indicates that women who work night shifts are at moderately higher risk for earlier menopause and that this risk is more pronounced among younger women. Underlying biological mechanisms have yet to be sufficiently substantiated. A long-held line of inquiry, most strongly propagated by the observed link between night shift work and female breast cancer, is the 'Light at Night' hypothesis, which suggests melatonin-mediated circadian disruption as a potential regulator of reproductive signaling in women. Supporting evidence is found from observations of changes in endogenous melatonin production among night working women or in response to light exposure, and corresponding changes in endogenous ovarian hormone levels and modulated menstrual patterns, among other indications of altered central ovulation-governing processes. Susceptibility to night shift work may be modified by chronotype. SUMMARY This review summarizes the literature related to night work and ovulatory regulation in humans, prioritizing population-based evidence to provide motivation for the study of circadian disruption and night shift work as a regulator of menopausal timing.

Abstract
STUDY QUESTION How are rotating night shift schedules associated with age at menopause among a large, national cohort of shift working nurses? SUMMARY ANSWER Our findings suggest that working rotating night shifts with sufficient frequency may modestly accelerate reproductive senescence among women who may already be predisposed to earlier menopause. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Younger age at menopause has been associated with increased risk of adverse health outcomes, particularly those linked to reproduction. Night work has been associated with reproductive dysfunction, including disruption of menstrual cycle patterns. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This cohort study was conducted among 80 840 women of the Nurses' Health Study 2 (NHS2), with prospective follow-up from 1991 through 2013. Loss-to-follow-up of the NHS2 is estimated to be <10%. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS We assessed the association between cumulative and current rotating night shift work and age at natural menopause over 22 years of follow-up (1991-2013). Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HR) for menopause, adjusted for age, smoking status, body mass index, physical activity, alcohol consumption, reproductive factors and exogenous hormone use. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Over follow-up, 27 456 women (34%) reached natural menopause. Women who worked 20 or more months of rotating night shifts in the prior 2-year had an increased risk of earlier menopause (multivariable-adjusted (MV)-HR = 1.09, 95% CI: 1.02-1.16) compared to women without rotating night shift work. This risk was stronger among women undergoing menopause or otherwise censored under age 45 years (MV-HR = 1.25, 95% CI: 1.08-1.46), than it was for those continuing in the study when >45 years old (MV-HR = 1.05, 95% CI: 0.99-1.13). Working 10 or more years of cumulative rotating night work was also associated with higher risk of menopause among women reaching menopause under age 45 (MV-HR10-19 years = 1.22, 95% CI: 1.03-1.44; MV-HR≥20 years = 1.73, 95% CI: 0.90-3.35), though not over the age of 45 years (MV-HR10-19 years = 1.04, 95% CI: 0.99-1.10; MV-HR≥20 years = 1.01, 95% CI: 0.89-1.15). LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION The degree to which observed effects of rotating night shifts on age at natural menopause are due to circadian disruption, rather than fatigue and stress associated with working more demanding schedules, is uncertain due to potential residual confounding by these factors. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS This is the first study to assess the effects of night work on menopausal timing among a larger national cohort of shift working women. Women already prone to earlier menopause may further truncate their reproductive lifetime by working schedules comprising day as well as night shifts. The process of ovarian aging is influenced by a complex and poorly understood interplay of endocrine, metabolic, and environmental factors. The purpose of this study was to explore the feasibility of using latent class analysis to identify subgroups based on cardiometabolic, psychological, and reproductive parameters of health and to describe patterns of anti-Müllerian hormone levels, a biomarker of the ovarian reserve, within these subgroups. Sixty-nine lean (body mass index [BMI] ⩽ 25 kg/m2) and severely obese (BMI ⩾ 40 kg/m2) postpartum women in Edinburgh, Scotland, were included in this exploratory study. The best fitting model included three classes: Class 1, n = 23 (33.5%); Class 2, n = 30 (42.2%); Class 3, n = 16 (24.3%). Postpartum women with lower ovarian reserve had less favorable cardiometabolic and psychological profiles. Examining the ovarian reserve within distinct subgroups based on parameters of health that affect ovarian aging may facilitate risk stratification in the context of ovarian aging.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To estimate rates of ovarian aging in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) subjects versus a community control population. DESIGN Longitudinal. SETTING Tertiary academic center. SUBJECT(S) PCOS subjects diagnosed according to the 2004 Rotterdam criteria were systematically enrolled in a PCOS cohort study. The comparison control subjects were from the Ovarian Aging study, a prospective longitudinal study of ovarian aging in healthy women with regular menstrual cycles. INTERVENTION(S) Clinical data collection over two study visits. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Antral follicle count (AFC), ovarian volume (OV), and antimüllerian hormone level (AMH). RESULT(S) PCOS subjects were found to have higher baseline values for all ovarian reserve markers compared with control subjects. Univariate models indicated that, compared with control subjects, PCOS patients experienced significantly faster rates of decline for both AFC and AMH. Change in OV did not differ significantly. To account for potential confounder effects, multiple analysis of covariance models were evaluated for the best fit, considering age, body mass index, and baseline ovarian reserve markers. Adjusted models demonstrated that PCOS patients do not experience a significant difference in AFC decline compared with control subjects, but they do experience a faster rate of decline in AMH (P<.01) and slower rate of decline in OV (P<.01). CONCLUSION(S) Ovarian aging in PCOS is characterized by a more rapid decline in AMH and a slower decline in OV compared with control subjects.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Due to its consistent elevation in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and correlation with polycystic ovarian morphology (PCOM), anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) has been proposed as a marker of the syndrome. However, prior studies reporting thresholds of AMH for a PCOS diagnosis have been limited by small sample size, inappropriate controls, and heterogeneous AMH assays. We sought to evaluate the suitability of a standardized AMH assay as a biomarker of PCOS. DESIGN Cross-sectional study at academic medical centres across the United States. PATIENTS Women with PCOS were diagnosed by Rotterdam criteria and included 282 subjects from the multisite PPCOS II trial and 109 patients from a tertiary academic centre's multidisciplinary PCOS clinic. Controls included 245 participants in the ovarian ageing (OVA) study, a community-based cohort of ovulatory women not seeking treatment for fertility. MEASUREMENTS Determination of AMH by a central laboratory. Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) analyses were used to investigate the accuracy of AMH thresholds for prediction of PCOS diagnosis with stratification by age. RESULTS The optimal threshold of AMH to distinguish PCOS from controls was 55.36 pmol/L (sensitivity: 0.82, specificity: 0.78, J: 0.60). When examining the population by age groups, the optimal AMH threshold decreased with increasing age. CONCLUSIONS AMH is an effective biomarker of PCOS. Age-stratified thresholds more accurately predicted PCOS than an overall population-based threshold.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To test the hypothesis that women with unexplained infertility demonstrate evidence of diminished ovarian reserve when compared with a population of community controls. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Multicenter university-based clinical practices. PATIENT(S) Study participants included 277 healthy, normo-ovulatory female partners with rigorously defined unexplained infertility randomly selected from a multicenter trial (Assessment of Multiple Intrauterine Gestations from Ovarian Stimulation). Controls included 226 healthy, normo-ovulatory women not seeking treatment for fertility from a community-based cohort (Ovarian Aging study). INTERVENTION(S) Serum antimüllerian hormone (AMH) assay at a central laboratory, FSH, fasting serum metabolic testing, transvaginal ultrasonography for antral follicle counts (AFCs), anthropometric measurements. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Average AMH, AFC, and AMH/AFC were compared between infertile and control women by age. Analyses of covariance compared these outcomes while controlling for confounders, including age, race, body mass index, smoking history, and study site. RESULT(S) In our models, AMH, AFC, and AMH/AFC ovarian reserve indices did not differ between infertile women and community-based controls, after controlling for age, race, body mass index, smoking history, and study site. CONCLUSION(S) Currently utilized predictors of ovarian reserve do not discriminate women with rigorously defined unexplained infertility from healthy community-based women of similar demographic characteristics. Contrary to our hypothesis, among women with FSH in the normal range (≤12 IU/L), women with unexplained infertility did not show evidence of decreased ovarian reserve as measured by AMH and AFC. Ovarian reserve markers in isolation may not serve as predictors of future fertility.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the association of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal activity with ovarian functioning in women with and without chronic abdominal pain (CAP). DESIGN AND SETTING A secondary data analysis was performed with data from female participants in a natural history protocol at the National Institutes of Health. PARTICIPANTS A total of 36 women (age range = 19-39 years, mean = 27.11 years) were included in the study. METHODS This pilot study was conducted with a subset of participants enrolled in a natural history protocol conducted in the Hatfield Clinical Research Center at the National Institutes of Health. The parent study included participants with and without CAP who provided a 5-hour urine sample for determination of cortisol levels and serum samples for determination of circulating levels of cortisol, luteinizing hormone, and follicle-stimulating hormone. CAP was defined as presence or absence of chronic pain for at least 6 months and was determined via self-report. RESULTS Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) concentrations declined significantly with age as expected. When AMH levels were dichotomized as normal or abnormal (defined as higher or lower than age-specific normative ranges, respectively), there were significant associations between abnormal AMH levels and CAP and urine cortisol levels. Participants with CAP or low urine cortisol levels were significantly more likely to have abnormal AMH levels. CONCLUSION Results suggest that chronic abdominal pain and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal dysregulation may be associated with abnormal AMH levels.

Abstract
Background Leukocyte telomere length(LTL) has been associated with age, self-reported race/ethnicity, gender, education, and psychosocial factors, including perceived stress, and depression. However, inconsistencies in associations of LTL with disease and other phenotypes exist across studies. Population characteristics, including race/ethnicity, laboratory methods, and statistical approaches in LTL have not been comprehensively studied and could explain inconsistent LTL associations. Methods LTL was measured using Southern Blot in 1510 participants from a multi-ethnic, multi-center study combining data from 3 centers with different population characteristics and laboratory processing methods. Main associations between LTL and psychosocial factors and LTL and race/ethnicity were evaluated and then compared across generalized estimating equations(GEE) and linear regression models. Statistical models were adjusted for factors typically associated with LTL(age, gender, cancer status) and also accounted for factors related to center differences, including laboratory methods(i.e., DNA extraction). Associations between LTL and psychosocial factors were also evaluated within race/ethnicity subgroups (Non-hispanic Whites, African Americans, and Hispanics). Results Beyond adjustment for age, gender, and cancer status, additional adjustments for DNA extraction and clustering by center were needed given their effects on LTL measurements. In adjusted GEE models, longer LTL was associated with African American race (Beta(β)(standard error(SE)) = 0.09(0.04), p-value = 0.04) and Hispanic ethnicity (β(SE) = 0.06(0.01), p-value = 0.02) compared to Non-Hispanic Whites. Longer LTL was also associated with less than a high school education compared to having greater than a high school education (β(SE) = 0.06(0.02), p-value = 0.04). LTL was inversely related to perceived stress (β(SE) = -0.02(0.003), p<0.001). In subgroup analyses, there was a negative association with LTL in African Americans with a high school education versus those with greater than a high school education(β(SE) = -0.11(0.03), p-value<0.001). Conclusions Laboratory methods and population characteristics that differ by center can influence telomere length associations in multicenter settings, but these effects could be addressed through statistical adjustments. Proper evaluation of potential sources of bias can allow for combined multicenter analyses and may resolve some inconsistencies in reporting of LTL associations. Further, biologic effects on LTL may differ under certain psychosocial and racial/ethnic circumstances and could impact future health disparity studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We evaluated whether heat shock protein HSP70 plays a protective role in the embryos of Kunming mice subjected to chronic unpredictable mild stress. METHODS Female mice were stimulated for 4 weeks with nine stressors and then divided into mild, moderate and severe stress groups. Superovulation was induced with a gonadotropin preparation (PMSG/HCG) and HSP70 expression in 2-cell embryos and day 4 embryos was detected by immunofluorescence (IF) and real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). RESULTS In the mild stress group, ovarian response and oocyte development potential were similar to those of the control group, while the HSP70 mRNA levels of the embryos were significantly higher (P < 0.05). In the severe stress group, ovarian response and oocyte development potential decreased compared with the control group (P < 0.05), while the HSP70 mRNA levels were similar. The results of the moderate stress group were intermediate among the three groups. Furthermore, HSP70 mRNA levels of the embryos were shown to be positively associated with parameters of oocyte and embryo development potential (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS HSP70 overexpression may play a protective role in the embryos of the mild or moderate stress mice stimulated by chronic unpredictable mild stress.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the extent to which mild disruptions in ovarian function, indexed by changes in menstrual cycle length, may relate to cardiometabolic and psychological health in premenopausal women. METHODS Among 804 healthy, regularly cycling women (aged 25-45 y; mean [SD] age, 35.5 [5.5] y), patterns of any change (shortening, lengthening, or increased variability) versus no change in menstrual cycle length were examined in relation to a composite of cardiometabolic risk and individual risk factors (high-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, waist circumference, glucose, and hypertensive status), as well as in relation to depression indicators (Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale score ≥16 [yes/no], lifetime depression diagnosis [yes/no], and lifetime antidepressant medication use [yes/no]). Models were also explored to test whether changes in menstrual cycle length mediated relations between depression history and cardiometabolic risk. RESULTS In covariate-adjusted models compared with no change, any change in menstrual cycle length was associated with higher cardiometabolic risk composite scores and lower high-density lipoprotein (P < 0.05). In addition, compared with no change, any change in menstrual cycle length was associated with a Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale score of 16 or higher, having received a depression diagnosis, and having used antidepressant medications (P < 0.05). In exploratory analyses, any change in menstrual cycle length partially mediated the relation between depression history and cardiometabolic risk (b = 0.152, P = 0.040), which attenuated (b = 0.129, P = 0.083) when any change in menstrual cycle length was covaried. CONCLUSIONS Findings suggest that disruptions in ovarian function, marked by subtle changes in menstrual cycle length, may relate to aspects of cardiometabolic and psychological health among healthy, premenopausal women.

Abstract
A woman's age at menarche (first menstrual period) and her age at menopause are the alpha and omega of her reproductive years. The timing of these milestones is critical for a woman's health trajectory over her lifespan, as they are indicators of ovarian function and aging. Both early and late timing of either event are associated with risk for adverse health and psychosocial outcomes. Thus, the search for a relationship between age at menarche and menopause has consequences for chronic disease prevention and implications for public health. This article is a review of evidence from the fields of developmental biology, epidemiology, nutrition, demography, sociology, and psychology that examine the menarche-menopause connection. Trends in ages at menarche and menopause worldwide and in subpopulations are presented; however, challenges exist in constructing trends. Among 36 studies that examine the association between the two sentinel events, ten reported a significant direct association, two an inverse association, and the remainder had null findings. Multiple factors, including hormonal and environmental exposures, socioeconomic status, and stress throughout the life course are hypothesized to influence the tempo of growth, including body size and height, development, menarche, menopause, and the aging process in women. The complexity of these factors and the pathways related to their effects on each sentinel event complicate evaluation of the relationship between menarche and menopause. Limitations of past investigations are discussed, including lack of comparability of socioeconomic status indicators and biomarker use across studies, while minority group differences have received scant attention. Suggestions for future directions are proposed. As research across endocrinology, epidemiology, and the social sciences becomes more integrated, the confluence of perspectives will yield a richer understanding of the influences on the tempo of a woman's reproductive life cycle as well as accelerate progress toward more sophisticated preventive strategies for chronic disease.

Abstract
The importance of adrenergic pathways in cancer has long been suspected, but now there is mounting epidemiological, preclinical, and clinical evidence of its importance in gynecologic cancers. To date, most of these effects are mediated primarily through the beta 2 adrenergic receptor activation of the tumor cell cyclic AMP-protein kinase A signaling pathway. This review will discuss the current knowledge about the neuroendocrine stress response in gynecologic tumor biology.
