Abstract
Pre-registration nursing education has long moved away from preparing nurses with mental health specialisation to nurses with comprehensive knowledge and skills. However, the consumers' experiences of comprehensive-prepared nurses and their nursing care has not been widely explored. This paper reports on a study with consumers to explore their experiences with comprehensive-prepared graduate nurses and the nursing care that they provide in acute mental health settings. An exploratory qualitative study using semi-structured interviews was chosen as the research method. Purposeful sampling recruited 12 consumers and data saturation was achieved. Braun and Clarke's method of thematic analysis was used to analyse the collected data and three themes emerged. The themes are: (i) You got what it takes to be a mental health nurse, (ii) Slow down and spend quality time with us, and (iii) Read in between the lines when we share our negative lived experiences. The findings are useful for identifying strategies to develop evidence-based nursing education for comprehensive-prepared graduate nurses to improve the consumers' experiences of their nursing care.

Abstract
Peer support is a collaborative practice where people with lived experience of mental health conditions engage in supporting like-minded. Peer support impacts on personal recovery and empowerment and creates value at an organisational level. However, the implementation of peer support into existing mental health services is often impeded by barriers embedded in organisational culture and support in role expectations. Non-peer professionals' recovery orientation and attitudes towards peer support workers (PSWs) are essential factors in the implementation of peer support, and this study explored non-peer professionals' understanding of recovery and their attitudes towards PSWs joining existing community mental health teams in one region of Denmark. In total, 17 non-peer professionals participated in three focus groups. Thematic analysis led to three themes: (1) Recovery is a process of "getting better" and balancing personal and clinical perspectives; (2) Realising recovery-oriented practice: a challenging task with conflicting values; and (3) Expectations and concerns about peer support workers joining the team. Recovery-oriented practice faces challenging conditions in contemporary mental health services due to a dominant focus on biomedical aspects in care and treatment. Implementation facilitators and barriers in the employment of PSWs point towards fundamental aspects that must be present when employing PSWs in an organisation. The issues described leading up to the employment of PSWs reflected in this study underpin the importance of preparing an organisation for the employment of PSWs based on the available knowledge.

Abstract
Personal recovery, a western conceptualisation that focuses on hope and living meaningful lives of choice rather than focusing on symptom reduction, is a more recent concept in many Asian countries including Thailand. One way to promote recovery-oriented service delivery is to use outcome measures that capture self-reported personal recovery. This study aimed to evaluate a Thai translation of a self-report measure of mental health recovery, the Recovery Assessment Scale - Domains and Stages (RAS-DS). The study also explored the cultural similarities and differences between Thai (n = 190) and Australian (n = 301) recovery experiences by comparing Thai and Australian participant responses to RAS-DS items. Data were analysed using Rasch analysis. Analyses revealed that the Thai version of the RAS-DS had adequate measurement properties. Cultural comparisons suggested that most aspects contained within the RAS-DS appear to be applicable across both Thai and Australian contexts. Three findings suggest linguistic or cultural differences in Thai and Australian recovery experiences: (i) a ceiling effect for Thai participants, (ii) some items were "harder" or "easier" for one cultural group to endorse than the other, and (iii) a few items were "misfitting" for Thai participants.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Self-determination is a core component of mental health recovery and a predictor of positive outcomes. The literature calls for occupational therapists to lead practice change to greater recovery-orientation, including facilitating people's self-determination. However, systemic challenges thwart translation of policy into practice and therapists report a lack of confidence in implementing recovery-oriented principles. This study aimed to understand the strategies that mental health occupational therapists employ to support people's self-determination. METHODS Data were collected through an international on-line questionnaire principally comprising two open-ended questions designed to elicit deep reflective personal accounts. Participants were asked about an experience in which they supported a person's self-determination and the factors that either facilitated or hindered this experience. Qualitative data were analysed using inductive thematic analysis, guided by constant comparative methods. FINDINGS Thirty-four therapists, predominantly from Australia (n = 30), participated. Therapists described supporting self-determination as a multifaceted process that involved: (1) working on myself, (2) working with the person, and (3) working with others. They emphasised that the combined use of various strategies across these three areas of work was important to support people's self-determination. Further, awareness of and addressing issues of power in their practice was key. CONCLUSION This study supports the translation of recovery-oriented principles into practice by revealing the nuanced strategies implemented by occupational therapists striving to support self-determination. Participants employed diverse strategies to empower people to take the 'driver's seat' in their mental health recovery journey. Insights from this study will support other occupational therapists to actualise recovery-oriented principles and better support self-determination in their practice. To effectively implement self-determination strategies, therapists must reflect on and address existing power differentials within mental health services, particularly between themselves and the people they support.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Despite the established evidence base for mental health peer support work, widespread implementation remains a challenge. This study aimed to explore societal and organisational influences on the implementation of peer support work in low-income and high-income settings. DESIGN Study sites conducted two focus groups in local languages at each site, using a topic guide based on a conceptual framework describing eight peer support worker (PSW) principles and five implementation issues. Transcripts were translated into English and an inductive thematic analysis was conducted to characterise implementation influences. SETTING The study took place in two tertiary and three secondary mental healthcare sites as part of the Using Peer Support in Developing Empowering Mental Health Services (UPSIDES) study, comprising three high-income sites (Hamburg and Ulm, Germany; Be'er Sheva, Israel) and two low-income sites (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Kampala, Uganda) chosen for diversity both in region and in experience of peer support work. PARTICIPANTS 12 focus groups were conducted (including a total of 86 participants), across sites in Ulm (n=2), Hamburg (n=2), Dar es Salaam (n=2), Be'er Sheva (n=2) and Kampala (n=4). Three individual interviews were also done in Kampala. All participants met the inclusion criteria: aged over 18 years; actual or potential PSW or mental health clinician or hospital/community manager or regional/national policy-maker; and able to give informed consent. RESULTS Six themes relating to implementation influences were identified: community and staff attitudes, resource availability, organisational culture, role definition, training and support and peer support network. CONCLUSIONS This is the first multicountry study to explore societal attitudes and organisational culture influences on the implementation of peer support. Addressing community-level discrimination and developing a recovery orientation in mental health systems can contribute to effective implementation of peer support work. The relationship between societal stigma about mental health and resource allocation decisions warrants future investigation. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER ISRCTN26008944.

Abstract
A model of recovery and recovery-oriented practice has been developed based on three previously published meta-syntheses of experiences and processes of mental health and substance use recovery. The model integrates the findings of these three meta-syntheses into three components: experiences of recovery, processes of recovery-oriented practice, and social and material capital. The experiences of recovery involve being, doing, and accessing and are viewed as embedded in the processes of recovery. The processes of recovery-oriented practice aim to mobilize and apply various forms of capital to support the recovery journey. Social and material capital, in turn, constitute the context in which recovery occurs and requires mobilization for the individual and the service system. The model is grounded in the principles of well-being, person-centeredness, embedding, self-determination, and the interdependency of human living. The model is both descriptive and explanatory, as it depicts the experiential and processual aspects of recovery and recovery-oriented practice and their interrelationships. The model as a framework needs to be elaborated further through application in practice and research, especially for understanding how experiences, processes and practices interact over time, and how they are affected by access to material and social capital.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Recovery Assessment Scale: Domains and Stages (RAS-DS) was designed to be both a recovery outcome measure and a tool to enhance service-user control over their recovery journey. While extensively and globally used in mental health services for the former purpose, routine use for the latter purpose is yet to be realised. The aim of this study was to identify barriers, facilitators and additional supports needed for RAS-DS to be used to support service user participation, goal setting and recovery action planning. METHODS An online survey was conducted of mental health workers who had engaged with RAS-DS, including fixed choice and open-ended questions. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and interpretive content analysis respectively. RESULTS The 65 respondents reported more frequent use of RAS-DS as an outcome measure than as a collaboration tool and more than half reported difficulties in using it in this way. Factors that they described as influencing the use of RAS-DS as a tool for collaboration and support included: previous experiences with RAS-DS; organisational supports and policies; awareness of the RAS-DS amongst colleagues; RAS-DS related training and support; staff time and capacity; the format of RAS-DS; service user population or context; and respondents' own active efforts. CONCLUSIONS Extending the use of RAS-DS, an already widely used tool, to routinely support recovery-oriented practice has both efficiency and service user empowerment benefits. However further work is needed to enable this including: provision of co-designed, accessible training resources; a user platform including built in guidance; and strategies to promote management understanding and valuing of the enhanced recovery-orientation opportunities inherent in RAS-DS use.

Abstract
Background The recovery-oriented service concept has been recognized for its impact on mental health practices and services. As the largest group of mental healthcare providers, mental health nurses are well-positioned to deliver recovery-oriented services but face challenges due to role ambiguity and identity issues. Therefore, clarifying the role and principles of mental health nursing is essential. Objective This study aimed to identify essential nursing practices for individuals with schizophrenia in recovery-oriented mental health services. Design The study utilized a five-step integrative review approach, including problem identification, literature search definition, critical analysis of methodological quality, data analysis, and data presentation. Data Sources Multiple databases, such as ScienceDirect and Scopus, as well as online libraries and journals/publishers, including Sage journals, APA PsyNet, SpringerLink, PsychiatryOnline, Taylor & Francis Online, and Wiley Online Library, were searched. The search spanned from the inception of the recovery-oriented services concept in 1993 to 2022. Review Methods Content and thematic analysis were employed to analyze and synthesize the findings from the included studies. Results Twenty-four articles met the inclusion criteria. Two themes were identified: 1) Direct nursing care, consisting of six sub-themes: therapeutic nurse-patient relationship (TNPR), psychoeducation (PE), coping skill training (CST), cognitive behavioral techniques (CBT), interventions to improve medication adherence (IMA), and social functioning (SF); and 2) Indirect nursing care. Conclusion This study highlights the crucial role of nursing and nursing practices in recovery-oriented services. Mental health nurses prioritize person-centered care, therapeutic relationships, and collaboration with peer support workers to enhance treatment effectiveness. In addition, they focus on improving medication adherence, providing coping support, and promoting social capabilities, ultimately improving individuals' quality of life. Aligning actions with recovery-oriented principles, mental health nurses emphasize empowerment and holistic care. Further research in this area will enhance the healthcare system and better support individuals on their recovery journey.

Abstract
Recovery, which is a non-linear, unique process allowing mental health service consumers to live autonomously, has become a prominent concept. However, adapting recovery-oriented practice to daily care is challenging. We explored recovery-oriented practice among mental health professionals in Japan via semi-structured interviews including nurses, occupational therapists, and psychiatric social workers (17 professionals in total). Data were analysed using grounded theory. Six categories emerged. The core category was 'Continuing to adjust care to meet consumers' needs for their unique lives'. The professionals stated that they practised in accordance with the service consumers' sincere hopes based on an equitable relationship because they believed that this approach would enhance consumers' personal agency, proactive behaviour, and self-choice. Despite negative consequences, the professionals did not view the consumers' choices as 'failures' and instead helped them to find meaning in their experiences. Although the therapeutic relationship tended to be paternalistic, participants described how concrete practices helped build an equitable relationship. In recovery-oriented practice, the provision of support centred on consumer values is important, without imposing own's own values. Care practices should also be aligned with consumers' hopes, needs and goals.

Abstract
A strong association exists between the quality of nurse-service user therapeutic relationship and care outcomes on acute mental health inpatient wards. Despite evidence that service users desire improved therapeutic engagement, and registered mental health nurses recognize the benefits of therapeutic relationships, such interactions remain sub-optimal. There is a dearth of evidence on factors influencing implementation of interventions to support and encourage therapeutic engagement. This study aimed to understand the barriers and enablers to implementation of the Therapeutic Engagement Questionnaire (TEQ), across fifteen acute inpatient wards in seven English mental health organizations. Qualitative methods were used in which data were collected from ethnographic field notes and documentary review, coded, and analysed using thematic analysis. Theoretical framing supported data analysis and interpretation. Reporting adheres to the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research. The TEQ as an evidence-based intervention co-produced with service users and nurses was valued and welcomed by many nurse directors, senior clinicians, and ward managers. However, a range of practical and perceptual factors impeded implementation. Furthermore, many existing contextual challenges for intervention implementation in acute inpatient wards were magnified by the COVID-19 pandemic. Suitable facilitation to address these barriers can help support implementation of the TEQ, with some transferability to implementation of other interventions in these settings. Our study suggests several facilitation methods, brought together in a conceptual model, including encouragement of reflective, facilitative discussion meetings among stakeholders and researchers, effort put into winning nurse 'buy-in' and identifying and supporting ward-level agents of change.

Abstract
Over recent decades, the shift to recovery-oriented practice has been central to mental health policy. Despite this emphasis, mental health services can struggle to meet this expectation. This study explores the knowledge and attitudes in relation to the recovery-oriented practice of clinical staff working at an Australian acute inpatient mental health unit. The Recovery Knowledge Inventory (RKI) is a widely used self-report tool that assesses mental health professionals' knowledge and attitudes towards recovery; higher scores indicate higher levels of recovery knowledge and attitudes. Seventy-four staff members (44 nursing staff and 30 medical staff) completed the RKI via an online survey. The study has been reported according to the STROBE checklist for cross-sectional studies. The relationships between the RKI scores and a range of variables were considered using inferential statistics, including multivariate regression. Medical staff had higher mean RKI scores than nursing staff, although this did not meet the predefined threshold for a clinically significant difference. More years of mental health experience were associated with increased mean RKI scores for medical staff. This Australian inpatient staff cohort demonstrated higher mean RKI scores than have been observed in recent international studies of mental health professions. However, the recovery knowledge and attitude levels were disappointingly similar to those shown in earlier Australian research completed over a decade ago. Efforts are needed to further enhance the recovery knowledge of clinicians working in mental health inpatient units.

Abstract
Service users' views and expectations of mental health nurses in a UK context were previously reviewed in 2008. The aim of this systematic review is to extend previous research by reviewing international research and work published after the original review. Five databases were searched for studies of any design, published since 2008, that addressed service user and carer views and expectations of mental health nurses. Two reviewers independently completed title and abstract, full-text screening and data extraction. A narrative synthesis was undertaken. We included 49 studies. Most included studies (n = 39, 80%) were qualitative. The importance of the therapeutic relationship and service users being supported in their personal recovery by mental health nurses were core themes identified across included studies. Service users frequently expressed concern about the quality of the therapeutic relationship and indicated that nurses lacked time to spend with them. Carers reported that their concerns were not taken seriously and were often excluded from the care of their relatives. Our critical appraisal identified important sources of bias in included studies. The findings of our review are broadly consistent with previous reviews however the importance of adopting a recovery approach has emerged as a new focus.

Abstract
Mental health recovery is the new paradigm in the mental health service delivery system worldwide. Recovery-oriented services go beyond traditional clinical care that is centered on symptom remission, aiming to help people: restore social connections with other individuals and the community; develop hope and optimism for the future; reconstruct an identity beyond that of a “mental patient”; discover meaning in life; and feel empowered to gain control over treatment (CHIME framework). Over the last ten years, several efforts at implementation of recovery-oriented interventions have been documented in the scientific literature. However, little attention has been given to their sustainability, even though it is reported that not all health interventions can fully sustain their activities beyond the initial implementation phase. The aim of this mixed methods case study is to better understand the factors that determine the sustainability of two recovery-oriented interventions (peer support and recovery training) after their roll-out in four organizations in Canada that provide community housing for adults with mental health challenges. Qualitative and quantitative data will be collected from managers, service providers, and implementation team members that oversaw the implementation process along with organizational documents. Data collection and analysis will be guided by the Consolidated Framework for Sustainability Constructs in Healthcare, the Framework for Reporting Adaptations and Modifications, and the Program Sustainability Assessment Tool. Findings will expand our current evidence base on the intersection of sustainability and mental health recovery interventions that remains under-explored.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to describe mental health professionals’ experiences of changes in attitudes towards, and knowledge about, users of mental health-care recovery and decisional participation in clinical practice after an educational intervention.
Design/methodology/approach
Users of mental health care want to participate in decisions regarding their own mental health care. Shared decision-making as a method is coherent with recovery orientation in mental health services and results in better-informed patients and fewer conflicts regarding decisions. A qualitative intervention study was designed to evaluate changes in attitudes and knowledge about mental health recovery in Sweden. Nine participants were interviewed, and the data were analysed by content analysis.
Findings
Three categories were generated from the analysis: Increased theoretical knowledge, changing attitudes about practical approaches and the significance of social factors in recovery.
Originality/value
When shared decision-making is to be implemented in mental health, professionals need to gain knowledge about recovery and need to adopt changed roles as health professionals. Educational interventions therefore seem necessary if such changes are to happen.

Abstract
This study assesses the effectiveness of our short Personal Recovery Training Program (PRTP) for mental health professionals. Fifty-two healthcare professionals from Italian mental health services and forty students in psychiatric rehabilitation completed the Recovery Knowledge Inventory (RKI) pre- and post-training, divided into two groups: the PRTP (N = 45) and the Family Psychoeducational Training Program (FPTP; N = 47). Participants' understanding of personal recovery improved more significantly for those in the PRTP than for those in the FPTP group in two domains, "Roles and responsibilities" and "Non-linearity of the recovery process"; the FPTP group showed a significant improvement in the "Role of self-definition and peers in recovery" domain. Two consumers were involved in the PRTP and represented a resource to help participants understand the personal recovery process. Our findings indicate that a brief PRTP supported by consumers can improve staff and students' recovery orientation. The translation of the training into clinical practice remains unevaluated.

Abstract
Severe mental illnesses (SMI) contribute significantly to the global burden of disease. In low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs), the treatment gap impacts the clinical and personal recovery of people living with an SMI. The drive to reduce this treatment gap in LMICs makes it pertinent to understand service providers' views on recovery from SMI. Semi-structured interviews and focus groups with service providers from health services and non-profit organisations in the Western Cape Province, South Africa, were conducted in this qualitative study. Seventeen participants were purposively selected, and data were thematically analysed. Three major themes emerged: delineating recovery, available services supporting recovery from SMI, and facilitators and barriers to recovery at the service level. Health services favoured clinical over personal recovery. Participants thought that many service users' personal recovery from SMI was hindered by intersecting social, economic, cultural, and political inequalities that extended beyond the influence of the health sector.

Abstract
WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Personal recovery concept is dominant in mental health systems when service user involvement is emphasized; however, service user involvement in mental health research and practice does not exist in Egypt. Definitions of recovery from high-income and English-speaking countries should be carefully adapted to other settings. Nurses providing mental health care in Egypt generally do not have specialized mental health nursing qualifications. WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: Both cultural and contextual uniqueness of Egypt as a Middle Eastern, low-middle-income country were clear in the findings of this paper. There are differences in the definition of family and service user engagement in the current study and in high-income countries. Seeking faith healers as a barrier to mental health recovery is culturally unique. Functional recovery prevails as a model in Egypt as there is limited service user involvement. Nursing values and code of ethics are consistent with enablers of mental health recovery. WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE?: Changing the pre-registration nursing education to prepare specialized graduates in mental health nursing. Training of mental health professionals on recovery approaches which involve service users is needed in Egypt. Mental health nurses in Egypt can use the current findings to implement national campaigns to raise public awareness of mental health problems. ABSTRACT: Introduction Recovery-oriented mental health practice is an emerging approach that aims to empower individuals to define their goals and take responsibility for their own recovery. However, mental health practice in Egypt is still custodial. Aim To explore perspectives of Egyptian mental health professionals on recovery. Method Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 mental health professionals identified through snowball sampling. Results The current study identified that functional recovery outweighed other definitions. Four facilitators of mental health recovery were identified: therapeutic relationship; family engagement; cultural sensitivity; and professionals' self-awareness. Six barriers to recovery were found, comprising mental health stigma and lack of awareness, seeking traditional healers, shortage of psychiatrists, cost of treatment, lack of training and effective rehabilitation programs. Discussion The concept of functional recovery predominates among nurses and other mental health professionals, which may be due to limited training and the historical lack of service user involvement in Egypt. Lack of support from family and society, inadequate training MHPs and perceived system inefficiencies are also major impeding factors for recovery. Implications for Practice There is a need for nurses to be involved in designing intervention programs targeting the general public and to support increased involvement of people with mental health issues.

Abstract
In recent decades, recovery-oriented practice has become the major approach in mental health and substance abuse care, especially in community mental health and substance abuse services. Various models of recovery-oriented practice have come to form the basis of the integration of this approach in service settings. The study aims to elucidate the characteristics of recovery-oriented practice as experienced by participants in the practice. The method used was a qualitative meta-synthesis that integrated the findings from thirty-four empirical papers published by one research group. Four meta-themes were developed: (a) helping and supporting, (b) collaborating and relating, (c) identity integration in practice, and (d) generating hope through nurturing and helping. These themes emphasize the value of relationships and connectedness, contextuality, and resources that can be mobilized in practice. The results emphasize the need to incorporate the elements in the four major themes as “working capital” for practitioners to realize recovery-oriented practice. The concepts of personal, social, and economic capital as working capital are elaborated, drawing from the meta-themes as the basis for recovery-oriented practice in mental health and substance abuse services.

Improvements in Hope, Engagement and Functioning Following a Recovery-Focused Sub-Acute Inpatient Intervention: a Six-Month Evaluation. Psychiatr Q 2021; 92:1611-1634. Abstract
Few studies have examined the post-discharge benefits associated with recover-oriented programs delivered in inpatient and sub-acute mental health settings. The aim of this study was to evaluate the medium-term outcomes of a 6-week sub-acute inpatient intervention program for 27 service users with a diagnosis of serious mental illness (mean age = 33.22 years, 70.4% with a psychosis diagnosis). Recovery data were collected on admission, at discharge, and at 3- and 6-months post-discharge using self-report, collaborative and clinical measures. The three clinician-rated measures (assessing therapeutic engagement, functioning, and life skills) revealed linear improvements from admission to 6-month follow-up (with mean z-change ranging from 0.72 to 1.35), as did the self-reported social connection measure (Mental Health Recovery Star, MHRS; mean z-change: 1.05). There were also curvilinear improvements in self-determination and self-reported MHRS symptom management and functioning scores; however, only modest changes were detected in hope (Herth Hope Index) and MHRS self-belief scores. Change scores based on self-reported and clinician-rated measures tended to be uncorrelated. An exploration of client-level outcomes revealed three recovery trajectory subgroups: transient (21.7%), gradual (34.8%), or sustained (43.5%) improvement; with members of the latter group tending to have longer illness durations. The study's findings are encouraging, to the extent that they demonstrate recovery-focused sub-acute inpatient programs can promote clinical recovery and aspects of personal recovery. However, they also suggest that recovery perspectives differ between clients and clinicians, and that far more work is required to understand the psychological factors that generate and sustain the hope that recovery is possible.

Purpose: It is important for undergraduate mental health nursing students to develop an understanding of what recovery means in contemporary mental health nursing in order to practise in accordance with current models of care. However this concept can prove challenging for some. This paper looks at one particular undergraduate mental health nursing course with the aim of evaluating how effectively recovery is embedded in the course. Methods: Course material related to recovery and possible barriers to understanding of recovery, including both those contained in this particular undergraduate mental health nursing course and those which come from external factors, are discussed. Results: Ways to promote a better understanding of recovery-oriented mental health nursing care are suggested. Conclusions: To promote a greater understanding of recovery in mental health nursing there needs to be a better match between the consumer experience, educational materials provided in the course, tutor perspectives, student focus and assessment methods.

Abstract
Recovery-oriented principles have progressively been accepted as a standard of mental health practice in many countries, including Australia. A private mental health Clinic in Melbourne, Australia, is dedicated to embedding the principles of recovery-oriented practice into care by (i) providing recovery education and training for their staff and (ii) co-designing resources with consumers to promote active consumer engagement and participation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of these initiatives on staff knowledge and provision of recovery-oriented care in acute care. Two groups of study participants were recruited: the first group completed the staff training programme introducing the concept of recovery-oriented practice, and the second group was a convenience sample of nurses recruited 12 months later working on the acute inpatient wards at the study site. Nurses completed Recovery Knowledge Inventory (RKI) and Recovery Self-Assessment (RSA-Provider) surveys and participated in a focus group discussion. The three major themes identified from the focus group discussion were as follows: (i) nurses' understanding of personal recovery-orientated practice, (ii) how to embed personal recovery-oriented care into practice, and (iii) barriers to consumer participation in recovery-oriented activities in acute care. There were significant differences between the two groups on the RKI subscale scores of 'Expectations regarding recovery' and the 'Roles of self-definition and peers in recovery' and 'Life goals' and 'Choice' factors on the RSA subscale scores. There were some gaps in the nurses' knowledge and implementation of personal recovery-oriented concepts, highlighting the need for further training and cultural change.

Abstract
Mental health recovery is an enabling process encouraging consumers to live a productive life, notwithstanding the presence of debilitating symptoms of illness. The recovery model has been integrated into all areas of mental health. However, literature shows that mental health professionals are not equipped to provide recovery-oriented care to consumers. Researchers have recommended recovery-based interventions to develop knowledge, attitudes, and skills to promote recovery-oriented practice in mental health, yet there is a paucity of research regarding the effect of recovery-oriented interventions on the knowledge and attitudes of mental health professionals to improve recovery-oriented practice. Therefore, the purpose of the current review is to understand the effectiveness of interventions on recovery knowledge and attitudes of mental health professionals regarding recovery-oriented practice. The papers were identified through the Population Intervention Comparison and Outcome strategy. The heterogeneity of the selected papers led to a narrative review instead of a systematic review with meta-analysis. The analysis suggested that recovery-based interventions are effective in enhancing the recovery knowledge and attitudes of mental health professionals. Recovery-based interventions have the potential to reduce the use of physical restraints and improve work satisfaction among mental health professionals. The limitations of the studies were the heterogeneity of the selected populations and the absence of strong methodologies to assess the effect of the interventions. Therefore, future investigations should be focused on the effect of interventions on a homogeneous group using randomized controlled trials.

Abstract
Recovery-focused educational programmes have been implemented in mental health services in an attempt to transform care from a purely biomedical orientation to a more recovery-oriented approach. Mental health nurses have identified the need for enhancing their abilities and confidence in translating recovery knowledge into mental health nursing practice. However, recovery-focused educational programmes have not fully address nurses' learning needs. Therefore, this review synthesized the evidence of the effectiveness of recovery-focused educational programmes for mental health nurses. A systematic search of electronic databases and hand-searched references was conducted. It identified 35 programmes and 55 educational materials within 39 studies. Synthesizing the literature revealed three themes and nine subthemes. The first theme, a framework for understanding and supporting consumers' recovery, had four subthemes: consumers' involvement, multidisciplinary approach, profession-specific training, and performance indicators. The second theme, contents of educational materials, included the subthemes: knowledge development and recovery-focused care planning. The final theme, nurses' learning experiences, included the subthemes: understanding recovery, the positive effects of recovery-focused educational programmes, and implementation of recovery-oriented practices. Based on these findings, a mental health nursing recovery-focused educational programme framework is proposed. Further research should investigate the effectiveness of the framework, especially in relation to recovery-focused care planning and consumer and carer involvement in the development, delivery, participation, and evaluation of these educational programmes.

Abstract
Recovery is internationally recognized as a concept to improve the well-being of consumers. Compared with the numerous measures assessing consumer perspectives of recovery, only a few measures have been developed to assess Mental Health Professionals' (MHPs) perspectives of recovery to inform practice. The present study aims to systematically review the literature to identify existing measures designed to assess MHPs' perspectives of recovery and evaluate their psychometric properties, and the methodological considerations of the design and use of these measures. We searched literature across eight electronic databases: MEDLINE, Web of Science, PsycINFO, PsyArticles, CINAHL, Scopus, EMBASE, and Google scholar. We identified 2631 articles across all databases. Of these, 40 articles met the inclusion criteria, which comprised 14 original measures assessing mental health recovery and 26 articles reassessing the psychometric properties of the original 14 measures. Our results suggested that while there are existing measures for assessing MHPs' perspectives of recovery, only a few of these measures met standard evaluation criteria for psychometric properties. Specifically, the validation of the identified measures is still in its infancy. For example, the easiness of applying the measures differs among the studies, and only a few of the measures fully involved consumers in the scale development phase. The implication of the findings for future use and development of recovery measures in mental health practice and research are discussed and recommended.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Peer support is being integrated within mental health services to further the development of a recovery approach. However, the most effective models and formats of intervention delivery are unknown. We conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the effectiveness of peer support for improving outcomes for people with lived experience of mental health conditions, when delivered as group interventions. METHODS Studies reporting randomised controlled trials of group peer support interventions for people experiencing mental health conditions were identified by searching MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Embase and Cochrane CENTRAL, from inception until July 12th 2019 and undertaking supplementary searches. Included studies were assessed for risk of bias and meta-analyses were conducted if three or more trials provided usable data. RESULTS Eight trials met eligibility criteria, providing data from 2131 participants. Six trials had either high or unclear risk of bias. Interventions were categorised as mutual support groups, or peer support groups, sub-categorised as anti-stigma or self-management interventions. Meta-analyses were only possible for peer support groups and five outcomes. We found evidence that group peer support may make small improvements to overall recovery but not hope or empowerment individually, or to clinical symptoms. Evidence for effectiveness for outcomes which could not be meta-analysed was mixed. CONCLUSIONS Findings from the few eligible trials suggest group peer support interventions may be specifically effective for supporting personal recovery and have a limited impact on other outcomes, though there were some risks of bias to study findings. Interventions were heterogeneous and most social outcomes were absent in the literature, highlighting further limitations to the current evidence-base. There is insufficient evidence available from trials of group peer support torecommend the routine implementation of these interventions across mainstream mental health services at present. More high-quality trials of peer-developed, group peer support interventions are needed in order tomake firm conclusions about intervention effectiveness.

Abstract
Using hierarchical multiple regression analysis, the current study aimed to investigate ecological predictors of recovery-oriented practices among 230 psychiatric nurses in South Korea. Intrapersonal predictors associated with recovery-oriented practice were educational level, type of workplace, and attitudes regarding recovery. Extent of nursing practice environment recognized by nurses at the organizational level was also significant. Recovery-oriented practices were associated with intrapersonal and organizational factors. Therefore, it is necessary to provide multi-level considerations to improve recovery-oriented practices among psychiatric nurses. Abstract
Recovery, a prominent concern in mental health care worldwide, has been variously defined, requiring further clarification of the term as processual. Few studies have comprehensively addressed the nature of recovery processes. This study aims to explore the nature and characteristics of experiences of recovery as processual. The method used is a form of qualitative meta-synthesis that integrates the findings from 28 qualitative studies published during the past 15 years by one research group. Three meta-themes were developed: (a) recovery processes as step-wise, cyclical, and continuous, (b) recovery as everyday experiences, and (c) recovery as relational. These themes describe how recovery is intertwined with the way life in general unfolds in terms of human relationships, learning, coping, and ordinary everyday living. This meta-synthesis consolidates an understanding of recovery as fundamental processes of living in terms of being, doing, and accessing. These processes are contextualized in relation to mental health and/or substance abuse problems and highlight the need for support to facilitate the person's access to necessary personal, social, and material resources to live an ordinary life in recovery.

Perception of Recovery Orientation as a Predictor of Clinician Turnover in Community Mental Health Clinics. Abstract
Turnover in community mental health clinics threaten the delivery of quality behavioral health services; recovery orientation has been shown to be associated with lower levels of burnout but its relationship with actual turnover has not yet been examined. This study aimed to examine the relationship between provider perceptions of recovery orientation and 12-month turnover status among community mental health providers. Secondary data analyses were conducted with data collected from 224 community mental health providers from ten organizations across 14 clinic sites participating in a larger effectiveness-implementation trial. Chi square analyses were used to examine between-site variation in 1-year turnover rates among the ten organizations. Logistic regression was used to examine effects of perceptions of recovery orientation along with known predictors of turnover among community mental health providers. Results revealed no between-site variation in organizational turnover rates. The logistic regression model was statistically significant, χ2(17) = 47.64, p < .0001 and explaining 30% (Nagelkerke R2) of within-site variance and correctly classifying 79% of cases. Perceptions of recovery orientation emerged as the sole significant predictor of 12-month turnover status, with higher levels of recovery orientation significantly associated with lower odds of turnover at 12 months [B = .90, p = .008, OR 2.47 (95% CI 1.23, 4.82)]. Perceptions of recovery orientation was protective against 12-month turnover status suggesting that a more person-centered and empowering approach to care may improve the provider experience. More research is needed to further understand how recovery orientation can contribute to workforce stability.

Abstract
When nurses practise recovery-focused care, they contribute positively to the consumer's mental health recovery journey and empower the person to be actively engaged in the management of their illness. While using recovery-focused care is endorsed in mental health policy, many health professionals remain uncertain about its application with consumers who have a risk for aggression during their admission to an acute mental health inpatient setting. This paper reports on Australian research using Q-methodology that examined the knowledge and skill components of recovery-focused care that nurses use to reduce the risk for aggression. The data from forty mental health nurses revealed five factors that when implemented as part of routine practice improved the recovery outcomes for consumers with risk of aggression in the acute mental health settings. These factors were as follows: (I) acknowledge the consumers' experience of hospitalization; (II) reassure consumers who are going through a difficult time; (III) interact to explore the impact of the consumer's negative lived experiences; (IV) support co-production to reduce triggers for aggression; and (V) encourage and support consumers to take ownership of their recovery journey. These findings provide nurses with a pragmatic approach to use recovery-focused care for consumers with risk for aggression and contribute positively to the consumers' personal recovery.

OBJECTIVE To examine the literature on how recovery of people with severe mental illness (SMI) is conceptualised in low/middle-income countries (LMICs), and in particular what factors are thought to facilitate recovery. DESIGN Scoping review. DATA SOURCES AND ELIGIBILITY We searched 14 electronic databases, hand searched citations and consulted with experts during the period May-December 2019. Eligible studies were independently screened for inclusion and exclusion by two reviewers. Unresolved discrepancies were referred to a third reviewer. DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS All bibliographical data and study characteristics were extracted using a data charting form. Selected studies were analysed through a thematic analysis emerging from extracted data. RESULTS The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses flow diagram offers a summary of the results: 4201 titles, 1530 abstracts and 109 full-text articles were screened. Ten articles were selected for inclusion: two from Turkey, two from India, and one each from China, Swaziland, Indonesia, Egypt, South Africa and Vietnam. Although most studies used qualitative methods, data collection and sampling methods were heterogeneous. One study reported on service provider perspectives while the rest provided perspectives from a combination of service users and caregivers. Three themes emerged from the data analysis. First, studies frame recovery as a personal journey occurring along a continuum. Second, there was an emphasis on social relationships as a facilitator of recovery. Third, spirituality emerged as both a facilitator and an indicator of recovery. These themes were not mutually exclusive and some overlap exists. CONCLUSION Although there were commonalities with how high-income countries describe recovery, we also found differences in conceptualisation. These differences in how recovery was understood reflect the importance of framing the personal recovery concept in relation to local needs and contextual issues found in LMICs. This review highlighted the current sparse evidence base and the need to better understand recovery from SMI in LMICs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recovery has been outlined as a process of change through which involvement and empowerment enables individuals to reach their goals and aspirations. Recovery self-assessment (RSA) is an instrument that has been acknowledged as an applicable measure of recovery-orientation in services for people with mental health problems or substance use disorder (SUD). This study aimed to translate RSA from US English to Norwegian and to investigate the factor structure of the translated version (RSA-N). METHODS A translate/back-translate procedure was used. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was applied to investigate the factor structure of RSA-N in a sample of clinicians (n = 407) working in inpatient SUD treatment facilities. RESULTS The results suggested that the hypothesised five-factor structure originally obtained by the developers showed an inadequate fit with the current data sample. RSA-N was modified and restructured by removing twelve misfitting items and combining factors with high covariance using data from one subsample. The alternative three-factor structure yielded an acceptable fit for the data from a second subsample. Acceptable alpha coefficients, suggesting good internal consistency, supported the adequacy of the three-factor structure. CONCLUSIONS Results from the present study are in line with previous findings, which have failed to replicate the hypothesised five-factor structure without modifications. Knowledge about the degree to which SUD services are recovery-oriented may contribute to SUD services' pursuit of establishing an inpatient treatment environment that fosters change and development of inpatients. The present study's findings imply RSA-N's potential as an instrument to assess recovery-orientation in inpatient SUD treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The experiences of professionals in well-established recovery-oriented programs are valuable for professionals in similar practice settings. This study explored professionals' experiences with providing recovery-oriented services in community psychiatric rehabilitation organizations. METHODS Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 professionals from five recovery-oriented psychiatric rehabilitation organizations in Taiwan. The interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. Thematic analysis was used for the qualitative data analysis. RESULTS The analyses documented three main themes with 13 subthemes. Recovery-oriented service implementation included seven subthemes: Enabling clients to set their own goals and make decisions, using a strengths-based approach, establishing partnerships with clients, improving individuals' self-acceptance, encouraging community participation, seeking family, peer, and organizational support, and building team collaboration. Problems with implementing recovery-oriented services included limited policy and organizational support, a lack of understanding of recovery among professionals, stigma, clients' lack of motivation or self-confidence in their own ability to achieve recovery, and passive or overprotective family members. Strategies to resolve implementation problems included policy changes and organizational support, improving the recovery competence and confidence of professionals, and family and public education. CONCLUSIONS To date, this is the first known study examining the perspectives of mental health professionals who have experience implementing recovery-oriented services in Asia. The participants identified family collaboration, anti-stigma efforts, and changes in policy and attitudes as critical to successful implementation and delivery of recovery-oriented services.

Abstract
Cognitive features of auditory hallucinations (voices) have important clinical significance and their assessment is vital for cognitive behavior therapy to be more widely deployed by multidisciplinary staff. Using a new Socratic instrument-The Staff Views About Assessing Voices Questionnaire (SVAVQ)-we surveyed a community inpatient rehabilitation multidisciplinary workforce's (N = 50) assessment and attitude toward asking cognitive questions about patients' voices. We found that there were many clinically important gaps in what staff asked about in relation to cognitive features of voices. We identified a range of beliefs the staff hold that may prevent assessment of voice cognitive features. However, after attending the Socratic SVAVQ interview, 84% of staff said they planned to ask patients more questions about cognitive features of patients' voices. Research could now test if other psychosis services neglect the assessment of important cognitive features of patients' voices and if staff Socratic questioning improves their cognitive assessments.

Abstract
Evidence suggests a link between recovery-oriented practise and service user outcomes in supported accommodation settings. Current clinical guidelines recommend recovery training for supported accommodation staff, however evidence relating to the effectiveness of this type of training is unclear. This review aimed to describe and compare the characteristics and efficacy of existing recovery training packages for mental health staff. The appropriateness and applicability of the interventions was considered in relation to UK supported accommodation services. Initial search processes returned 830 papers. After duplicate removal, inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to 489 papers, leaving a final sample of seven papers. Data were reviewed using a narrative synthesis approach. The reviewed papers showed variation in the aims, frequency, and duration of the training interventions, although all included content consistent with the five-domains of the CHIME model. All interventions used direct, in-person teaching, and prioritised interactive, experiential learning, however a number were limited by the absence of feedback, the use of one-off, rather than repeated/follow-up sessions, and a reliance on classroom-based, rather than in-vivo, training. There was limited evidence to suggest a consistent effect of training on staff or service user outcomes, and there was no clear association between the delivery and design characteristics of the interventions and reported outcomes. In considering the development of recovery training for supported accommodation staff, little guidance can be taken from the reviewed literature. Any training package must be developed with consideration of the unique contextual and organisational characteristics of these services. The authors recommend viewing training as one component of a broader goal of service transformation.

Abstract
Introduction: The importance of peer support workers in mental health care delivery has been extensively advocated for in mental health policy frameworks. However, there has been limited research examining the implementation of paid peer workers in clinical settings. This study explores the experience of paid peer support workers integrated within a clinically-operated community-based residential rehabilitation service for people diagnosed with a mental health disorder experiencing challenges living independently in the community. Methods: A general inductive approach was taken in the analysis of diaries completed by a newly employed peer workforce. These diaries focussed on what they viewed as significant interactions in fulfilling their role. Composite vignettes were generated to illustrate key themes. Findings: Thirty-six diaries were provided; these reported unplanned and spontaneously occurring interactions. Peer workers emphasized the importance of connecting with people while they were engaging in everyday activities as an opportunity for personal growth of the residents. The diaries also focussed on the peer workers' ability to connect and establish trust by sharing similar experiences with residents or family members. Peer workers also believed that they brought a different perspective than clinical staff and were able to refocus attention from clinical diagnoses and symptoms to other aspects of the resident's lives. Discussion: Peer support workers described their work as flexible, responsive, and adaptable to the resident's needs. They believed that their roles brought a different lens to interactions on the unit and fostered a more inclusive and personal way of working for the team. Conclusion: To ensure that peer workers can engage authentically with residents and family members, it is critical that the role and principles of peer work are valued and understood by all.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Social work is a key profession in the field of mental health worldwide and the profession has values that are aligned with a recovery paradigm. However, there are gaps in understanding how social workers are applying the recovery paradigm in practice. This study will scope and synthesise the literature related to recovery and social work practice in mental health and addictions. There will also be an exploration of best practices and gaps in recovery-oriented social work practice. METHODS AND ANALYSIS Using a scoping review framework developed by Arksey and O'Malley, we will conduct our search in five academic databases: PsycINFO, Medline, CINAHL Plus, Sociological Abstracts and Social Services Abstracts. Articles meeting inclusion criteria will be charted to extract relevant themes and analysed using a qualitative thematic analysis approach. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION This review will provide relevant information about best practices and gaps in recovery-oriented social work practice in mental health and addictions. The study will inform the development of mental health curricula in social work programmes and clinical settings. Results will be disseminated through a peer-reviewed journal and at conferences focusing on mental health, addictions, and social work education. Ethics approval is not required for this scoping review.

Abstract
While mental health (MH) services are expected to support client recovery, very little is known about services provided by MH teams in relation to this goal. This study explored relationships between a comprehensive collection of team effectiveness variables and the perspectives of MH professionals regarding the recovery orientation of their teams. A model developed by path analysis revealed eight team-related variables that were significantly and positively associated with recovery-oriented teams: primary care versus specialized MH services; greater proportions of clients with severe mental disorders or with suicide ideation on caseloads; knowledge sharing and knowledge production among team members; team climate; work role performance; and trust in coworkers. Results underline the importance of building knowledge and professional competence on MH teams, and the need for a positive team climate that offers flexibility and innovation for addressing the complex needs of people in MH recovery living in the community.

Abstract
This study examined care pathways, program engagement, and key outcomes associated with a sub-acute inpatient stay in a 20-bed stand-alone Intermediate Stay Mental Health Unit (ISMHU; NSW, Australia). A 6-week evidenced-based tailored intervention program was offered, utilizing a recovery-oriented model of care. Service data from multiple record systems were combined, including admissions and service contacts 2-years prior to and following the index admission. During the initial 16-months there were 146 index admissions with a length of stay greater than 7 days. The majority (75.3%) were transfers from acute-care, with an average ISMHU stay of 50.3 days. Service and clinical outcomes were examined in relation to care pathways, recovery needs, program engagement and benefits achieved. Substantial engagement was detected (e.g., 74.0% >10 intervention types), together with significant improvements on self-report and clinician rated measures (e.g., social connection, symptoms, and self-belief). Logistic regression analyses revealed that arrival category was the strongest outcome predictor, with community referrals experiencing the largest reduction in subsequent acute mental health admissions (58.3% to 16.7%), followed by involuntary inpatient referrals (80.3% to 60.7%). Potential recovery-focused benefits are not limited to community treatment settings, while pathways to care may help identify clients with differing needs and opportunities for treatment.

Abstract
In the context of the reform of psychiatric services in Greece, the debate about the concept of recovery is still growing. Recovery is defined as a path through which individuals facing mental health challenges are enabled to regain and further develop significant relationships with family, friends, the community, and themselves and at the same time to cope with the detrimental effects of stigma through empowerment. The present qualitative study aims to explore the experiences of people living in EPAPSY's (Association for Regional Development and Mental Health) community residential facilities focusing mainly upon the key concepts of the CHIME (connectivity, hope, identity, meaning, and empowerment) conceptual framework of recovery. To this end, semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven participants living and receiving mental health care in a residential facility of EPAPSY. The participants' accounts were analyzed using thematic analysis in a deductive and inductive manner. The research findings highlighted, among others, the challenges the participants faced during their early years in family and school, the experience of the revolving door effect, and the perceived turn their life took when they were transferred to a community residential facility, thus opening a new chapter in their lives. Of the five CHIME concepts, all are present in the participants' accounts, with emphasis given to a meaningful present, a need to feel "normal" again, and a positive outlook for the future, both for themselves and their relationships, despite the persistence of certain difficulties.

Abstract
There is little understanding of how recovery-oriented approaches fit within contemporary mental healthcare systems, which emphasise biomedical approaches to care, increased efficiency and cost-cutting. This article examines the established models of service delivery in a private, youth, mental health service and the impacts of the current system on staff. It explores whether the service is prepared or capable of adopting recovery-oriented approaches to care. Qualitative interviews were undertaken with staff and thematically analysed to understand the everyday practices on the unit. Data suggest that economic efficiencies and biomedical dominance largely shaped how health care was organised and delivered, which was perceived by staff as inflexible to change. Additionally, findings suggest that market-oriented principles associated with neoliberalism restricted the capacity of individuals to transform services in line with alternative models of care and lowered staff morale. These finding suggest that, while neoliberal ideologies and biomedical approaches remain dominant in organisations, there will be challenges to adopting alternative recovery-oriented models of care and promoting healthcare systems that understand mental health issues in broader socio-political contexts and can flexibly respond to the needs of service users.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To provide insights on emergent ethical tensions experienced by mental health practitioners during system re-organisation, which is sufficiently grounded in empirical data at the local level to inform policy on recovery at institutional and provincial levels. METHOD Ethnographic methods using narrative and critical phenomenological resources over 24 months. FINDINGS Everyday ethical tensions emerged at the confluence of different experiences of time, for example, how a context of increasing pressure to decrease patients' length of stay at the hospital (service-defined time) challenged efforts to listen to and advocate for what mattered to patients (personal time) and maintain the integrity of interventions (clinical time). In this context, practitioners drew on clinical language and that of personal recovery to strategically 'push back', 'play with' or 'take back' time. DISCUSSION Examining everyday practices through ethnographic methods can illuminate the everyday ethical tensions that arise when mental health professionals and psychiatrists grapple with, often competing, goods. Critical phenomenological resources can help expand the structural considerations in empirical ethics, excavate underground practices and raise questions about the conceptual categories undergirding normative ethics. Experiencing-with practitioners in clinical contexts as they encounter and creatively resolve ethical tensions also propose a normative ethics of possibility, to help bridge the gap between empirical and normative ethics. CONCLUSION Focus on the relationship between policy, temporal practices and ethics suggests a reconfiguration of time and re-imagination of ethics in institutional settings in ways that can ultimately benefit patients and professionals alike.

Abstract
The recovery-oriented reflective practice group (RORPG) is a staff-directed intervention aimed at achieving the recovery-focused transformation of mental health settings. This discussion paper aims to outline and reflect on the conceptual framework and group structure of recovery-oriented reflective practice groups. RORPGs build on conceptualizations of reflective practice, personal recovery, mental health nursing as a relational and reflective practice, and abductive reasoning. Dewey's phases of reflection, together with an understanding of nursing practice as a dynamic process of care, provide a structure for group sessions in which abductive reasoning can be considered a core activity. This paper outlines a sound theoretical foundation and suggests that RORPGs might prove useful for providing a space for learning in practice, informed by both theoretical and practical knowledge.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the experiences of Japanese community mental health nurses (CMHNs) that help form the basis of their nursing philosophies. DESIGN AND METHODS This study uses the narrative research method. I conducted participant observation and narrative interviews with nine CMHNs in Japan. FINDINGS Four themes emerged: (1) experiences as consumers' peers; (2) nurses' own recovery; (3) high levels of spirituality; and (4) a free spirit. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Recognizing these nurses' intrinsic experiences could help to shift mental health nursing paradigms from those based on biomedical models to newer perspectives found in recovery models.

Abstract
AIM To explore what factors may influence recovery knowledge and attitudes among professionals in mental health. METHODS We utilized an existing dataset from a study that surveyed 331 subjects among 475 eligible professionals. We used data from 289 participants without missing values for the analyses (valid response rate = 60.8%). The questionnaire included three psychometrically tested scales: (a) Recovery Knowledge Inventory (RKI); (b) Recovery Attitudes Questionnaire (RAQ); and (c) Internal Work Motivation, as well as other variables. Mean-based comparisons of the RKI and RAQ scores between several subgroups were examined. We also examined the correlation between RKI and RAQ scores and the continuous variables. Multiple linear regression was implemented to examine the simultaneous effects of the factors on RKI and RAQ scores. The mean age of participants was 39.9 years and 69.2% were female and 44.0% were nursing professionals. RESULTS Multiple linear regression analyses showed that the internal work motivation and the experience of discharging patients after a lengthy hospitalization were significantly and positively associated with recovery attitude. Working at community facilities and being young were significantly and weakly correlated with recovery knowledge. The experience of participation in self-help groups exhibited positive relationships with RKI and RAQ scores, while education exhibited positive but weak relationships with RKI and RAQ scores. No significant relationship was observed in the regression analyses. CONCLUSIONS Internal work motivation, the experience of discharging patients after a lengthy hospitalization, working at community facilities, and being young may positively contribute to better recovery knowledge and attitudes. Future research using a longitudinal design will explore other factors.

Abstract
AIMS Incorporating consumer perspectives into mental health services design is important in working to deliver recovery-oriented care. One of the challenges faced in mental health rehabilitation services is limited consumer engagement with the available support. Listening to consumers' expectations of mental health services, and what they hope to achieve, provides an opportunity to examine the alignment between existing services and the priorities and preferences of the people who use them. We explored consumer understandings and expectations of three recovery-oriented community-based residential mental-health rehabilitation units using semi-structured interviews; two of these units were trialling a staffing model integrating peer support with clinical care. METHODS Twenty-four consumers completed semi-structured interviews with an independent interviewer during the first 6 weeks of their stay at the rehabilitation unit. Most participants had a primary diagnosis of schizophrenia or a related psychotic disorder (87%). A pragmatic approach to grounded theory guided the analysis, facilitating identification of content and themes, and the development of an overarching conceptual map. RESULTS The rehabilitation units were considered to provide a transformational space and a transitional place. The most common reason given for engagement was housing insecurity or homelessness rather than the opportunity for rehabilitation engagement. Differences in expectations did not emerge between consumers entering the clinical and integrated staffing model sites. CONCLUSIONS Consumers understand the function of the rehabilitation service they are entering. However, receiving rehabilitation support may not be the key driver of their attendance. This finding has implications for promoting consumer engagement with rehabilitation services. The absence of differences between the integrated and clinical staffing models may reflect the novelty of the rehabilitation context. The study highlights the need for staff to find better ways to increase consumer awareness of the potential relevance of evidence-based rehabilitation support to facilitating their recovery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Internet-based interventions can make self-management and recovery-oriented information and tools more accessible for people experiencing severe mental illness, including psychosis. The aim of this scoping review was to identify and describe emerging joint uses of these Internet-based interventions by service users experiencing psychosis and mental health workers. It also investigated how using these Internet-based interventions influenced interactions between service users and workers and whether recovery-oriented working practices were elicited. METHODS A scoping review method was used. Iterative review stages included identifying the review question, a comprehensive search including searching six electronic databases to locate relevant studies, selecting studies, charting the data, and collating and reporting the results. Rigour of the scoping review was enhanced by using an appraisal tool to evaluate the quality of included studies, and by using a published template for systematic description of interventions. RESULTS Fifteen papers about eleven Internet-based interventions that focused on self-management and/or recovery were identified. Interventions were web-based, mobile-device based, or both. The eleven interventions were used by service users either with their usual mental health workers, or with mental health workers employed in a research project. Emerging evidence suggested that jointly using an Internet-based intervention could support a positive sense of working together. However, mismatched expectations and poor integration of Internet-based interventions into service systems could also negatively influence interactions, leading to mistrust. The interventions demonstrated potential to elicit recognised recovery-oriented practices, specifically understanding service users' values and supporting their goal striving. CONCLUSIONS The use of Internet-based interventions focused on self-management and recovery in mental health services by service users and workers jointly demonstrates potential to support working together and recovery-oriented practice. Given that the quality of relationships is critical in recovery-oriented practice, greater focus on human support in Internet-based interventions is needed in future research and practice.
