Abstract
INTRODUCTION Regular physical activity (PA) and good motor performance are essential for children's physical and mental health. However, historical trends suggest that levels of PA and motor performance in children and adolescents are at a low point. The relationships between PA, motor performance, health and their respective determinants, as well as their individual development throughout childhood and adolescence, are not yet fully understood. Therefore, continuous monitoring of PA, motor performance and health is needed to identify vulnerable subpopulations and provide data for policy-makers and health promotion professionals. The Motorik Monitoring 2.0-Study aims to analyse the developmental, historical and periodic trends in motor performance and PA, as well as the underlying determinants, in children and adolescents in Germany. METHODS AND ANALYSIS A representative sample of children and adolescents aged 4-17 years is drawn across 195 sample points in Germany. The assessment, carried out by test instructors, includes (1) a PA questionnaire covering different settings, including determinants, (2) anthropometric measures, (3) fine and gross motor performance tests focusing on coordination, flexibility, strength and endurance, (4) 24 hours device-based measured physical behaviour by accelerometry for 1 week and (5) a health interview focusing on health behaviour, physical and mental health as well as socioeconomic status. In addition, external data may be linked to the study using geographical information systems (eg, area deprivation, access to sports facilities). Analyses will be conducted using mixed-effects models to account for the nationwide structure of the study. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethical approval was obtained from the Ethics Committee of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Results will be published in open-access scientific journals and disseminated at congresses for scientists, policy-makers and stakeholders. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER The study was registered in the NFDI4health database (https://csh.nfdi4health.de/resource/1034). The NFDI4health database is a central platform of the National Research Data Infrastructure for Personal Health Data. It is used to collect, manage and provide health data for scientific research and facilitates access to high-quality data for epidemiological and clinical studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In order to gain a deepened understanding of the impact of public health emergency and to develop effective interventions and preventions, this study aimed to evaluate risk and protective factors associated with anxiety in children and adolescents and to explore potential moderators in the background of COVID-19 within the framework of socio-ecological model. METHODS A literature search was conducted in Web of Science, MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus, EBSCO, ScienceDirect, Emerald, and CNKI for studies published from early 2020 to early 2023 that examined factors associated with anxiety among children and adolescents with age range of 6 to 17 years old. Random effects models and a three-level meta-analytic approach were used. RESULTS In total, 141 articles and 1,018,171 subjects were included, with 1002 effect sizes extracted. 32 protective factors and 48 risk factors were examined, yielding significance for 14 protective factors and 29 risk factors, including individual factors (e.g., gender, logOR = -0.37, 95 % CI [-0.47, -0.27], p < 0.001; age, logOR = -0.12, 95 % CI [-0.22, -0.02], p = 0.02; emotional functioning, logOR = -1.45, 95 % CI [-1.84, -1.05], p < 0.001; pre-existing condition logOR = 0.94, 95 % CI [0.58, 1.30], p < 0.001; electronic device or internet addiction, logOR = 1.81, 95 % CI [0.74, 2.88], p < 0.001), family factors (e.g., family socioeconomic status, logOR = -0.25, 95 % CI [-0.39, -0.10], p < 0.001; family functioning, logOR = -1.31, 95 % CI [-1.60, -1.02], p < 0.001; anxiety level of caregiver, logOR = 1.06, 95 % CI [0.75, 1.37], p < 0.001), community factors (e.g., overall social support, logOR = -0.93, 95 % CI [-1.84, -1.05], p < 0.001; school burden, logOR = 0.56, 95 % CI [0.21, 0.90], p = 0.002), and COVID-19-related factors (e.g., higher exposure risk in local community or city, logOR = 0.48, 95 % CI [0.17, 0.78], p = 0.002; distant learning, logOR = 0.73, 95 % CI [0.19, 1.28], p = 0.008; COVID-19-related distress, logOR = 1.42, 95 % CI [0.55, 2.29], p = 0.001;). The majority of studies showed no publication bias. Age group moderated the relationship between gender and level of anxiety (F (1,96) = 4.42, p = 0.038), and no other moderator showed significance. LIMITATIONS This study does not reveal causality but correlation in nature, and our findings should be interpretated with caution. CONCLUSIONS Public health emergencies could bring challenges to the mental health of children and adolescents. Prevention and intervention strategies for children and adolescents with high risks, and family-based and community-based programs should be encouraged to buffer the adverse impact on children and adolescents. Abstract
BACKGROUND The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 introduced unprecedented disruptions impacting the emotional well-being and daily routines of US youths. However, the patterns and persistence of these impacts over the pandemic's multiyear course remain less well understood. OBJECTIVE This study examined longitudinal changes in affect and daily mobility patterns observed in adolescence and young adulthood from June 2016 to April 2022. The study aimed to quantify changes in youths' mood and daily routines following the pandemic's onset and in response to local COVID-19 case rates as well as the persistence of these effects over the pandemic's multiyear course. METHODS Colorado-based adolescent and young adult twins (N=887; n=479, 54% female; meanage 19.2, SDage 1.5 years on January 01, 2020) participating in the CoTwins study between June 2016 and April 2022 were followed via a smartphone app, which recorded persistent GPS location data and, beginning in February 2019, administered an abbreviated Positive and Negative Affect Schedule every 2 weeks. Nonlinear trajectories in affect and daily mobility over time and in response to local COVID-19 counts were modeled via generalized additive mixed models, while the magnitude and persistence of pandemic-related changes were quantified via linear mixed effects regressions. RESULTS Between January and April 2020, participants experienced a 28.6% decline in daily locations visited (from 3.5 to 2.5; SD 0.9) and a 60% reduction in daily travel distance (from 20.0 to 8.0 km; SD 9.4). Mean positive affect similarly declined by 0.3 SD (from 3.0 to 2.79; SD 0.6), while, correspondingly, mean negative affect increased by 0.3 SD (from 1.85 to 2.10; SD 0.6). Though mobility levels partially recovered beginning in the summer of 2020, daily locations visited remained slightly below 2019 levels through the study's conclusion in April 2022 (standardized β=-0.10; P<.001). Average positive affect similarly remained slightly below (standardized β=-0.20; P<.001) and negative affect slightly above (standardized β=0.14; P=.04) 2019 levels through April 2022. Weekly county-level COVID-19 transmission rates were negatively associated with mobility and positive affect and positively with negative affect, though these effects were greatly weakened later in the pandemic (eg, early 2022) or when transmission rates were high (eg, >200 new cases per 100,000 people per week). CONCLUSIONS Findings demonstrate large initial declines in daily mobility, a moderate decline in positive affect, and a moderate increase in negative affect following the pandemic's onset in 2020. Though most effects attenuated over time, affect and mobility levels had not recovered to prepandemic levels by April 2022. Findings support theories of hedonic adaptation and resiliency while also identifying lingering emotional and behavioral consequences. The study highlights both youth's resiliency in adapting to major stressors while also underscoring the need for continued support for youth mental health and psychosocial functioning in the pandemic's aftermath.

Abstract
LGBTQ adolescents and young adults have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This review aims to describe the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on mental health among LGBTQ adolescents and young adults, identify associated factors, and summarize coping strategies. A systematic review was conducted by searching six databases (PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Web of Science, MEDLINE). Eligibility criteria included (1) reported mental health outcomes, (2) conducted among LGBTQ adolescents and young adults, and (3) data collection occurred since January 2020. All studies were screened independently, and relevant data were synthesized following PRISMA guidelines. Of 395 records, 67 articles were screened for eligibility. Among these, 39 studies met the inclusion criteria. LGBTQ adolescents and young adults reported substantial mental health burdens, including depression, anxiety, stress, and loneliness during the pandemic. A pooled prevalence of depressive symptoms with a combined sample size of 7326 LGBTQ adolescents and young adults was 59% (95%CI: 0.48-0.70), (I2 = 98.95%, p < 0.001). Among anxiety outcomes, the pooled prevalence with a sample size of 3258 LGBTQ adolescents and young adults was 55% (95% CI: 0.46-0.63), (I2 = 95.70%, p < 0.001). Individual factors associated with mental distress included age, gender, and history of mental health disorders. Interpersonal and community-level factors included loss of safe spaces, family support, and discrimination on sexual and gender minority identity. Strategies to cope with distress include the use of social media and increased use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. The pandemic has had a substantial negative impact on psychological distress among LGBTQ adolescents and young adults. Results substantiate the need for further research into social media as a coping instrument and the expansion of telehealth mental health services.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic and the associated measures have had a significant impact on millions of individuals and families worldwide. Although cross-sectional studies have demonstrated the considerable burden placed on families during the pandemic, trends over different phases of the pandemic including later stages and using population-based samples is scarce. OBJECTIVE In this study, we aimed to assess trends in family functioning across four population-based surveys between December 2020 and March 2023 using a repeated cross-sectional design. The surveys were conducted using a similar sampling strategy and measures. We included individuals residing in a household with at least one minor below the age of 16. RESULTS The most notable changes across surveys over time were related to quality of life. While 54.3% of respondents reported a decline in quality of life during the winter of 20/21 compared to pre-pandemic levels, this was observed in only 22.6% of participants during the spring of 23. The proportion of respondents who indicated a deterioration in their relations with their children also decreased during the pandemic. While 9.9% of respondents reported a deterioration in their relationship with their children during the winter of 20/21 in comparison to the initial phase of the pandemic, this was reported by only 5.2% in the spring 23. The relationship with one's partner and health status exhibited minimal fluctuations. Mental health problems were associated with a decline in quality of life, health status and relationships with children and partners compared to pre-pandemic levels at all time points. Moreover, lower income levels were associated with poorer relationship quality with the partner in the most recent wave. CONCLUSIONS Our findings demonstrate significant improvements in family functioning since the onset of the pandemic, indicating that individuals and families in our sample were generally adapting well. However, a subgroup of the population still reports suboptimal family functioning compared to before the pandemic. Psychosocial care and social policy support for families are needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A large increase in the rate of hospitalizations for adolescents and children with anorexia nervosa (AN) was observed during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. It is still not clear whether this was a temporary effect or whether the increased admission rates persist. METHODS Data were retrieved from the largest health insurance in Germany comprising 2.5 million children between 9 and 19 y. All patients of this age group with a discharge diagnosis of typical (AN) and atypical AN (AAN) according to the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10), were included. Admission rates per 10,000 person-years were computed separately by sex, age and type of AN for entire years from 2019 to 2022 and the first half of 2023 in relation to the entire number of insured persons of the same sex and age per year. RESULTS Two years after the final lockdown admission rates were still significantly higher in adolescent and childhood AN than in the pre-COVID-19 time. While admission rates declined for adolescents in 2023, those for children remained high, with an increase for girls of more than 40% compared with the rate before the pandemic (1.42 (CI 1.26, 1.60); p < 0.0001). The highest admission risk for AAN relative to the pre-COVID-19 period was observed in adolescents in the first half of 2023 (1.6; CI 1.34; 1.90; p < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS Children appear to be especially vulnerable to the pandemic-associated disruptions. Clinicians should try to determine the ongoing effects of the pandemic and support early detection and treatment of AN to prevent its often lifelong consequences.

Abstract
Students' life satisfaction is an essential reflection of their well-being, particularly during challenging times. The COVID-19 pandemic, a global catastrophe, has had an immeasurably negative impact on individuals' daily lives. It has also provided an opportunity to investigate the factors contributing to students' life satisfaction during such difficult times. Considering the unique characteristics of these university students, the current study examines the impact of emotional intelligence (EI) on students' life satisfaction, as well as the direct and sequential mediating effects of interpersonal competence and anxiety on this relationship. A total of 297 university students in Shanghai, China, participated in the study. All participants were recruited online during the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022. Four well-established questionnaires were utilized to assess students' trait emotional intelligence, interpersonal competence, anxiety, and life satisfaction. The findings indicate that interpersonal competence significantly mediates the relationship between EI and life satisfaction. Although anxiety does not significantly mediate this relationship, it plays a notable role in the sequential mediating effect involving interpersonal competence and anxiety. The study reveals that nurturing students' EI can significantly enhance their interpersonal competence, which can reduce anxiety and ultimately increase their self-reported life satisfaction.

Abstract
AIM Our aim was to assess the burden of children and adolescents' mental health problems on the Slovenian outpatient healthcare system before, during and after the pandemic. METHODS In a retrospective analysis of healthcare indicators from 2008 to 2023, we analysed data from the National Institute of Public Health. Key domains included initial visits for mental and behavioural disorders (MBDs) to primary care for the population aged 0-19; the number of referrals to an initial assessment with a child and adolescent psychiatrist (CAP) at the secondary level for the population aged 0-17 along with the corresponding waiting times; and the number of urgent referrals for the population aged 0-17 to emergency mental health centres at the tertiary level. The calculations included rates per 1000 people. Descriptive statistics and diagrams were used to compare the data. Segmented linear regression analysis (SLR) was conducted on the primary healthcare data to identify the distinct temporal point indicating an increase. RESULTS Comparing the average rates of the 2020-2022 period to those of the 2018-2019 period, there was a 20% increase in initial visits to primary care, a 23% increase in the referral rate to a CAP at the secondary level, and a 41% increase to the tertiary level of care. In secondary care, a four- to sevenfold increase in waiting times for the initial CAP assessment was observed between 2019 and 2023. The incidence of initial visits to primary healthcare services for MBD increased from 2008 to 2019 (average annual growth rate of 4.5%). The average annual growth rate for the 2020-2022 period tripled to 13.9%. The SLR showed that the trend of accelerating growth could have begun in 2017 for the 0-5 age group and possibly for the 15-19 age group as well. CONCLUSIONS After the initial decline in 2020, all levels of the Slovenian healthcare system faced an increased burden of MBD in children and adolescents from 2021 to 2022 compared to pre-pandemic levels. Nevertheless, a portion of this increase aligns with longitudinal growing trends from 2008 onwards. Tackling the crisis requires urgent national action, significant improvement in organization, and investments in mental health.

Abstract
This study examined the relation between pandemic-related stressors and mental health among young people (YP) in India during two time points in the waning phase of the pandemic. We use data from two cross-sectional waves of over 20,000 YP aged 5-19 in February 2022, during the peak of the Omicron wave, and October 2022, during a reduction in infections and easing of restrictions. COVID illness/death in the family's social network, current lockdown stringency, and significant change in household income were examined in relation to adult respondents' reports of YP internalizing symptoms. Internalizing symptoms declined slightly from February to October 2022. COVID-19 illness/death in the family's network was generally associated with more internalizing symptoms. Higher lockdown stringency was associated with lower levels of internalizing symptoms. YP in households with increases in income tended to have more internalizing symptoms. Many associations were driven by older adolescents and were stronger during the earlier (Feb-2022) than later (Oct-2022) data collection time-points. The findings illustrate the importance of anchoring results within a study's specific geographic context, including concurrent events during the study period. Importantly, findings that may initially seem counterintuitive ultimately illuminate the dynamic and complex processes underlying child and adolescent mental health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Globally, mental health challenges are common among school-going adolescents, with a prevalence of 50.2% and 43.6% for depression and anxiety disorders, respectively. In Northeastern Uganda, a prevalence of 26.6% and 8.6% for anxiety and depressive disorders respectively were reported among children. School-going adolescents are at higher risk of developing these mental health challenges and this could be worsened by natural disasters like landslides. We aimed to determine the prevalence and factors contributing to mental health challenges (having at least one of following; depression, anxiety, anger, disruptive behaviour and social concept) among school adolescents in the Manafwa Watershed area. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study in 3 districts of the Manafwa watershed area (Bududa, Manafwa, and Butaleja). We selected school-going adolescents aged 13-18 years because of the nature of study tools. Mental health challenges (anxiety, depression, anger, disruptive behaviour and self-concept) were assessed using the Beck Youth Inventory-II. Descriptive statistics and inferential analysis were performed to determine factors associated with mental health challenges. RESULTS A total of 762 adolescents participated, with a median age of 17 years (interquartile range =16-17 years). More than half of the students were females. The prevalence of mental health challenges was 65% with a (confidence interval) = 54.0% - 75.0%; the majority 44% of the participants had anxiety, and 31% had disruptive behaviour. Families with more than five children [adjusted odds ratio = 1.18, 95% confidence interval= 1.08-1.29, p value = <0.001] and substance abuse [adjusted odds ratio = 1.20, 95% confidence interval= 1.15-1.24, p value <0.001] were significantly associated with mental health challenges. CONCLUSION The prevalence of mental health challenges among students was high with majority having anxiety and disruptive behaviour. Adolescents from families with more than five children and those with substance abuse were more likely to have mental health challenges. We therefore recommend that various stakeholders such as the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Education, design a curriculum that caters to the mental health needs of children. Family planning awareness, awareness on Government laws prohibiting alcohol and substance use, and parenting skills should be raised by the local leaders.

Abstract
Agreeableness, one of the five personality traits, is associated with socio-cognitive abilities. This study investigates how agreeableness impacts the perception of social interactions, while considering sex that might moderate this effect. Sixty-two young adults, preselected to ensure a wide range of agreeableness scores, underwent EEG recording while viewing images depicting real-world scenes of two people either engaged in a social interaction or acting independently. Behavioral results suggested a trend where higher agreeableness scores predicted better ability to detect social interactions primarily in males. ERP analysis showed that individuals with higher agreeableness exhibited stronger neural differentiation between social and non-social stimuli, observed in both females and males, and in the whole sample. This neural differentiation, occurring early in the processing timeline, was particularly extensive in males, and predictive of their performance. Three independent source analyses, conducted for the whole sample and for each sex, identified the engagement of right fronto-parietal regions for the ERP-agreeableness association. These findings enhance our understanding of how agreeableness shapes the neural mechanisms underlying social interaction detection and emphasize sex as an important factor in this dynamic. They also highlight the need for tailored approaches that consider personality traits and sex in clinical interventions targeting social impairments.

Abstract
PURPOSE Parents, who were working as essential frontline healthcare workers experienced unique stressors during the COVID-19 pandemic including disruption of regular routines, long lapses away from family, extreme work stress and subsequent difficulty in compartmentalizing work-related concerns when at home. The purpose of this study was to assess COVID-19 exposure and impact of frontline healthcare workers who are parents. DESIGN & METHODS This study quantitatively assessed the COVID-19 exposure and impact and qualitatively explored perceptions of parents of children 9 to 17 years of age, who were also frontline healthcare workers. RESULTS Participants (N = 79) using the COVID-19 Exposure and Family Impact Survey (CEFIS) reported exposure mean scores of 10.03 (SD = 2.63); and impact scores mean scores of 3.18 (SD = 0.46). Thematic analysis identified four themes, each with 2 subthemes: 1) family stressors increased (e.g., concerns about health and safety, losses of lifestyle patterns); 2) changes in children's health and well-being (e.g., isolation from family and friends, mental health problems); 3) virtual school difficulties (e.g., parent and student challenges, home school option); 4) skill building opportunities (e.g., enhanced emotional connections, increased family activities). CONCLUSION The CHAMPS Family Health Study suggests that families of essential workers are especially vulnerable to the effect of COVID-19, as are those families of essential workers who include child/ren with special health care needs. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Preparation for future emergencies requires strategies to mitigate consequences and promote well-being. These results highlight the need for supportive approaches to decrease the negative consequences of stress and to augment skills for family connection and cooperation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic has posed challenges that worsened people's mental health. We explored the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental well-being of the population, as indicated by the prevalence rates of benzodiazepine and benzodiazepine-related drug (BDZ) use. METHODS This population-based, time-series analysis included all prescriptions of BDZs dispensed in Estonia between 2012 and 2021. The monthly prevalence rates of BDZ use were calculated. Autoregressive integrated moving average models with pulse and slope intervention functions tested for temporary and long-term changes in monthly prevalence rates after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. RESULTS Throughout the 10-year study period, a total of 5,528,911 BDZ prescriptions were dispensed to 397,436 individuals. A significant temporary increase in the overall prevalence rate of BDZ use in March 2020 (2.698 users per 1000, 95% CI 1.408-3.988) was observed, but there was no statistically significant long-term change. This temporary increase affected all the examined subgroups, except for new users, individuals aged 15-29 years, and prescribing specialists other than general practitioners and psychiatrists. The long-term increase in BDZ use was confined to females aged 15-29 years (0.056 users per 1000 per month, 95% CI 0.033-0.079), while no significant change was observed among males of the same age (0.009 users per 1000 per month, 95% CI - 0.017 to 0.035). Among females aged 15-29 years, a significant long-term increase in BDZ use was observed for anxiety disorders (0.017 users per 1000 per month, 95% CI 0.010-0.023), depressive disorders (0.021 users per 1000 per month, 95% CI 0.012-0.030), and other mental and behavioral disorders (0.020 users per 1000 per month, 95% CI 0.010-0.030), but not for sleep disorders (- 0.008 users per 1000 per month, 95% CI - 0.018-0.002). CONCLUSION The COVID-19 pandemic led to a short-term increase in BDZ use immediately after the pandemic was declared. In the long term, young females experienced a sustained increase in BDZ use. The prolonged effect on girls and young women suggests their greater vulnerability. These results underscore the need to effectively address the long-term effects of the pandemic among youth.

Abstract
Due to rapidly evolving conditions, the question of how to safely operate schools and daycares remained a top priority throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to growing and changing evidence, the National Collaborating Centre for Methods and Tools in Canada maintained a living rapid review on the role of schools and daycares in COVID-19 transmission to guide evidence-informed decision making. This Review presents the final iteration of this living rapid review. 31 sources were searched until Oct 17, 2022. In the final version, eligible studies reported data from Jan 1, 2021 onward on transmission of COVID-19 in school or daycare settings, the effect of infection prevention and control measures on transmission, or the effect of operating schools or daycares on community-level COVID-19 rates. As a rapid review, titles and abstracts were screened by a single reviewer with artificial intelligence integrated into later versions. Full-text screening, data extraction, and critical appraisal were completed by one reviewer and checked by a second reviewer. The Johanna Briggs Institute tools were used for critical appraisal. The certainty of evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach, and results were synthesised narratively. Three citizen partners provided input for the final interpretation. This final update includes 73 primary studies. Secondary attack rates were low within school settings when infection prevention and control measures were in place (moderate certainty). Masks might reduce transmission, test-to-stay policies might not increase transmission risk compared with mandatory quarantine, cohorting and hybrid learning might make little to no difference in transmission (low certainty), and the effect of surveillance testing within schools remained inconclusive (very low certainty). Findings indicate that school settings do not substantially contribute to community incidence, hospitalisations, or mortality (low certainty). This living review provides a synthesis of global evidence for the role of schools and daycares during COVID-19, which might be helpful in future pandemics.

Abstract
Objective With increasing rates of anxiety and depression during COVID-19, exercise treatment has drawn attention for its effects on COVID-19 patients with anxiety and depression. This study set out to assess the impact of exercise therapy on COVID-19 patients' anxiety and depression. Methods PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Library were used to search articles about exercise therapy as a means of treating anxiety and depression in COVID-19 patients from inception to April 30, 2023. The risk of bias was assessed by the Cochrane Collaboration bias risk tool. Data were pooled with the random effects model. RevMan version 5.4 was used for the statistical analyses. This work was registered in the PROSPERO database (registration number: CRD42023406439). Selection criteria Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of COVID-19 patients with anxiety and depression were included to assess the impact of physical exercise on COVID-19 patients with anxiety and depression. Results 6 studies including a total of 461 COVID-19 patients were analyzed in this meta-analysis. Overall, the meta-analysis showed that compared with the control group, exercise could significantly improve anxiety (SMD = -0.76; 95%CI: -0.96, -0.55; p < 0.00001), depression level (SMD = -0.39; 95%CI: -0.70, -0.09; p = 0.01), the PHQ-9 score (MD = -1.82; 95%CI: -2.93, -0.71; p = 0.001) and the sleep quality (SMD = -0.73; 95%CI: -1.32, -0.14; p = 0.01) in COVID-19 patients. Conclusion The research provided evidence that exercise therapy is able to help COVID-19 patients experience less anxiety and depression and have better-quality sleep. Abstract
Following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries faced short-term fertility declines in 2020-2021, a development which did not materialize in the majority of German-speaking and Nordic countries. However, more recent birth statistics show a steep fertility decline in 2022. We aim to provide empirical evidence on the unexpected birth decline in 2022 in Germany and Sweden. We rely on monthly birth statistics and present seasonally adjusted monthly Total Fertility Rates (TFR) for Germany and Sweden. We relate the nine-month lagged fertility rates to contextual developments regarding COVID-19. The seasonally adjusted monthly TFR of Germany dropped from 1.5-1.6 in 2021 to 1.4 in early 2022 and again in autumn 2022, a decline of about 10% in several months. In Sweden, the corresponding TFR dropped from about 1.7 in 2021 to 1.5-1.6 in 2022, a decline of almost 10%. There is no association of the fertility trends with changes in unemployment, infection rates, or COVID-19 deaths, but a strong association with the onset of vaccination programmes and the weakening of pandemic-related restrictions. The fertility decline in 2022 in Germany and Sweden is remarkable. Common explanations of fertility change during the pandemic do not apply. The association between the onset of mass vaccinations and subsequent fertility decline indicates that women adjusted their behaviour to get vaccinated before becoming pregnant. Fertility decreased as societies were opening up with more normalized life conditions. We provide novel information on fertility declines and the COVID-19-fertility nexus during and in the immediate aftermath of the pandemic.

Abstract
Research shows the important role of parents' mental health literacy in detecting depressive symptoms and supporting their children to seek professional help. Improving mental health literacy in parents has recently gained even greater importance due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children and adolescents' mental health. The aim of the present experimental pre-post-follow-up study was to examine knowledge change after the reception of contents from an innovative web-based platform ( www.ich-bin-alles.de/eltern ) containing evidence-based information on youth depression and mental health in parents of adolescents with a history of depression. A second aim was to assess evaluation of the layout and the acceptance of the platform. N = 33 parents of adolescents with a history of depression (either current or remitted depression) were presented different content domains of the website. Participants' knowledge about depression was assessed at pre- and post-intervention, and at a four week follow-up. Moreover, parents evaluated the acceptance and the layout of the website. The trial was preregistered at clinicaltrials.gov (NCT05335564). The results showed a significant increase in total knowledge from pre to post, which remained stable over the course of four weeks. Explorative analyses showed that sociodemographic variables did not influence the extent of knowledge gain. Acceptance rates were high and evaluations of the website's layout were positive. The findings show that the web-based information portal is a promising and appealing means to increase parental knowledge on youth depression. Low-threshold psychoeducational approaches like websites are particularly relevant in times of crisis and increased prevalence rates of depressive symptoms and disorders (ehealth). These results are an important basis for future studies as well as approaches that aim to impart knowledge about mental disorders like youth depression via web-based means. Furthermore, they bear implications for policy decisions concerning mental health education and campaigns.

Abstract
Background The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the mental health of children and families, i.e., due to measures like social distancing and remote schooling. While previous research has shown negative effects on mental health and health-related quality of life (HRQoL), most studies have focused on pre-post comparisons in the early pandemic stages. This systematic review aims to examine longitudinal studies to understand the long-term impacts of the pandemic on children and adolescents. Methods This systematic review adhered to the PRISMA guidelines and was preregistered in the international prospective register of systematic reviews (Record ID: CRD42022336930). We systematically searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, PsycINFO, PSYNDEX, and the WHO-COVID-19 database and included studies published up to August 30, 2022. Based on pre-defined eligibility criteria, longitudinal and prospective studies that assessed the mental health or quality of life of children or adolescents (0-19 years) in the general population over a longer time span (at two or more measurement points) during the COVID-19 pandemic were included in the review. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using an adapted version of the Effective Public Health Practice Project (EPHPP) checklist. Narrative data synthesis was used to summarize the findings. Results A total of 5,099 results were obtained from literature searches, with 4,935 excluded during title/abstract screening. After reviewing 163 full-text articles, 24 publications were included in the review. Sample sizes ranged between n = 86 and n = 34,038. The length of the investigated time periods and the number of assessment points, as well as outcomes, varied. The majority of studies were of moderate methodological quality. Mental health outcomes were more frequently studied compared to measures of HRQoL. The findings from these studies mostly suggest that children and adolescents experienced heightened mental health problems, specifically internalizing symptoms like anxiety and depression. Further, there was a decline in their overall HRQoL over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic that did not necessarily subside when lockdowns ended. Conclusion It is crucial to continue monitoring the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents following the pandemic to identify groups at risks and plan interventions. This should ideally be conducted by large systematic studies, using validated instruments, and encompassing representative samples to obtain reliable and comprehensive insights with the aim of improving youth mental health care.

Abstract
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in increasing motivational factors within the domain of psychology. Among these factors, Grit, Mindset, Self-Efficacy, and Well-Being (Flourishing) have been suggested to play an important role in individuals' performance and Well-Being. Thus, cultivating these factors in the general population is important. Previous interventions have displayed substantial effects in certain areas. However, these interventions have primarily been Mindset oriented. This paper presents a novel intervention approach by also emphasizing the importance of brain development; the importance of stimuli for building a network in the brain; the importance of repetition for strengthening the network; and the importance of perseverance and deliberate practice for achievement. The purpose of the current study was to examine the effects of a 35-40 min online intervention to increase the beliefs of 'I CAN' for 38 university students in Norway. The mean age of the 38 participants was 22.55 (SD = 1.59) and they completed a pre-test assessment of the Grit-S Scale, Theories of Intelligence Scale (Mindset), General Self-Efficacy Scale, and Flourishing Scale (Well-Being). This was followed up by the novel intervention and finally a post-test of the scales eight weeks later. The results showed an increase in Grit, Self-Efficacy, and Well-Being. However, only Grit displayed a significant increase. We aimed at creating an intervention where the participants would "turn on the switch", meaning that they develop stronger beliefs. These promising results warrant a further development of the intervention, and studies with a larger group.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The implementation of COVID-19 pandemic-related restrictions resulted in limitations for physical activity (PA) opportunities, which may have initiated a longer-term behavioural change. The protocol describes the methodology for a planned systematic review that aims to summarise changes in PA and physical fitness (PF) in children and adolescents in the WHO European Region after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS AND ANALYSIS The protocol adheres to the 'Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis for Protocols' (PRISMA-P) statement. Using a peer-reviewed search strategy according to the evidence-based checklist 'Peer Review of Electronic Search Strategies' (PRESS), we will perform a systematic literature search in seven databases. Inclusion criteria are all primary studies that gathered data on children and adolescents ≤19 years living in the WHO European Region and made a comparison to pre-pandemic data. Primary outcomes are PA and PF. We will assess the risk of bias with the 'Risk of Bias Instrument for Non-Randomized Studies of Exposures' (ROBINS-E). The 'Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation' (GRADE) approach will be used for the evaluation of the certainty of evidence. Also, subgroup analyses will be performed (eg, for gender, age, stringency of pandemic restrictions). ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethical approval is not required, as primary data will not be collected in this study. The results will be presented in a peer-reviewed publication and at congresses relevant to the research field. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42023395871.

Abstract
Background: Social restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on the mental health of children. Yet, analyses on the mental health of younger children in the later course of the pandemic are scarce. The present study assessed 8- to 11-year-olds' internalising disorder symptoms during the last three weeks, from the third week of February through to the first week of March, of the 2021 national lockdown.Method: One hundred and forty-five pupils, including a subset of keyworkers' children who had face-toface schooling, completed the validated Revised Child Anxiety and Depression scales, items on COVID-related stress at home, and evaluations of home-learning and school's measures for reopening.Results: Symptoms increased with age in months and/or number of siblings. Girls reported more symptoms and home stress than boys did. Pupils who had face-to-face schooling were more satisfied with school measures and less satisfied with home learning compared with those who only had home learning. Hierarchical regression analyses corroborated the contributions of sociodemographic characteristics and found that home stress and school measures evaluations were associated most with major depression, generalised anxiety, and social phobia.Conclusion: Findings can contribute to mental health practice by promoting school communications and family and educator awareness of stressors, vulnerabilities and symptoms to boost pupils' readiness for school returns.
