Abstract
Background Evidence regarding the relationship between sleep duration and blood pressure is controversial. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between sleep duration and blood pressure in children with short stature. Methods A total of 1,085 participants with short stature were enrolled from the Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University in China. The variables involved in this study included sleep duration, anthropometric indicators and biochemical parameters. Sleep duration was evaluated in a face-to-face interview. Results The average age of the 1,085 selected participants was 10.2 ± 3.5 years old, and approximately 763 (70.32%) of them were male. The results of adjusted linear regression showed that sleep duration was negatively associated with systolic blood pressure z scores (SBP-Z) and diastolic blood pressure z scores (DBP-Z) after adjusting for confounders (β -0.07, 95% CI -0.13, -0.01 P = 0.038; β -0.05, 95% CI -0.10, -0.01 P = 0.035, respectively). A nonlinear relationship was detected between sleep duration and blood pressure, including SBP-Z, DBP-Z and mean arterial pressure z scores (MAP-Z). The inflection point of the nonlinear relationship between sleep duration and SBP-Z is 10 h, and the inflection point of DBP-Z and MAP-Z is 8 h. Conclusion This study revealed a nonlinear relationship between sleep duration and blood pressure in children with short stature. The findings suggest that the optimal sleep duration in children with short stature was 8-10 h, and sleep durations either too short or too long were associated with increased blood pressure levels.

Abstract
Background Adolescents have weekday/weekend sleep discrepancies and may compensate for weekday sleep debt through sleep extension on weekends. Objective We investigated the effects of total sleep duration on weekdays/weekends on obesity and determined if weekend catch-up sleep has an ameliorating effect on obesity in Korean adolescents. Methods Using data from the KNHANES VII, 1,306 middle and high school students were assessed for total sleep duration on weekdays, weekends, and the entire week, as well as weekend sleep extension. Participants were classified into four groups according to weekend sleep extension. Results Total sleep duration and weekend sleep duration were negatively associated with body mass index z-score. Increased weekend sleep duration and sleep extension on weekends decreased the relative risk of overweight/obesity with each 30 min increment, reducing the risk by a factor of 0.39 and 0.93, respectively. The risk of overweight/obesity in adolescents who slept less than 6 h on weekdays increased by a factor of 1.93 when they slept for less than 3 h on weekends. Conclusion Weekend catch-up sleep had a negative dose-dependent association with obesity in Korean adolescents. Sleeping longer on weekends may be associated with a decreased risk of obesity, even if the adolescent obtains less sleep during weekdays. However, further prospective studies are needed to establish the causality between extended weekend sleep and obesity.

Abstract
Poor sleep adversely affects health and may cause obesity. Poor sleep includes short sleep duration, low quality of sleep, and sleep discrepancy. Although most studies have focused on the association between sleep duration and obesity, poor sleep is a significant risk factor for obesity. Adolescents have characteristic sleep patterns which correspond to poor sleep. Adolescents sleep late due to various biological and psychosocial factors; also, they wake up early to be on time for school. This causes them to sleep less. To make up for this sleep debt, adolescents sleep more on non-school days, which causes sleep discrepancies. Therefore, since adolescents have characteristic sleep patterns, an in-depth investigation is needed to identify whether poor sleep is a risk for obesity. This article presents an overview of the characteristic sleep patterns of adolescents, and reviews studies on the association of each sleep pattern with obesity.

Abstract
Young adults the year after high school experience changes in lifestyle and circumstances and tend to experience more oversleeping. However, there are few studies on oversleeping in young adults. This study aims to identify the sociodemographic factors related to oversleeping among young adults in Korea using nationally representative data. This study analyzed self-reported and cross-sectional data in 2016 from a sample of 1876 participants from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey, which included respondents one year after high school graduation. Oversleeping was defined as sleeping 9 or more hours a day on average. Logistic regression models were analyzed to test a multivariate association between independent sociodemographic variables and oversleeping. Over one-tenth of young adults reported oversleeping. Oversleeping was associated with household income (OR = 0.99, p = 0.011) and smoking (OR = 1.52, p = 0.041). In addition, when compared to non-working college students, college students who were working (OR = 2.58, p = 0.021), non-students who were working (OR = 1.68, p = 0.048), and non-students who were not working (OR = 3.07, p < 0.001) were more likely to report oversleeping. Oversleeping among young adults was associated with major sociodemographic factors including household income (-), smoking (+), and academic and working status (+). These findings suggest the significant role of sociodemographic factors as predictors of oversleeping and emphasize the importance of examining various factors to achieve a better understanding of oversleeping in young adults.

Abstract
The sleep difference between weekdays and weekends can lead to negative physical and mental health outcomes in adolescents. Thus, this study has attempted to analyze the impact of sleep time differences on various health outcomes, using nationally representative panel data. Data from the junior high school student panel of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey were analyzed. The sleep difference was defined as the difference between the average sleep duration on weekdays and that on weekends in minutes. A series of mixed effect linear regression models for continuous variables or mixed effect logit regression for binary variables was utilized. Korean adolescent students reported from 96.8 min to 133.2 min of sleep duration difference between weekdays and weekends. After controlling for gender, parent work status, and type of housing, the weekday-to-weekend sleep differences were associated with various health-related outcomes including concentration difficulty, aggression, somatic symptoms, and withdrawal. Additionally, adolescent student life satisfaction was associated with sleep difference. The sleep differences among adolescent students were more associated with mental health-related outcomes and emotional symptoms than with physical health-related outcomes. The appropriate intervention to reduce the sleep difference gap is an important key to improve health in the adolescence period.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE In this study, we examine associations between objectively measured weekend night vs. school night sleep patterns, weight status, and weight-related behaviors among adolescents. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Five Minnesota high schools that started early (7:30 or 7:45 AM) in Spring 2016. PARTICIPANTS Ninth grade students, ages 14.5-16 years (n = 284). MEASUREMENTS Students completed surveys, had body measurements taken, and wore sleep (wrist) actigraphs for 1 week (n = 284). We examined weekend night-school night differences in sleep duration and sleep timing. We then assessed whether these factors were related to weight status and weight-related behaviors (eating behaviors, food consumption, physical activity, beverage consumption) using generalized linear mixed models. RESULTS On average, students slept 1.5 hours (95% confidence interval 1.3-1.7) more and had a sleep midpoint 1.9 hours (1.8-2.1) later on weekend nights compared to school nights. Female students had larger increases in sleep duration on weekend nights than males but similar timing differences. Sleep duration differences were uncorrelated with sleep timing differences (r = 0.01). Neither duration nor timing differences were associated with overweight, obesity, or any of the eating behaviors we examined. However, sleeping longer on weekend nights than on school nights was associated with lower probability of being active 6-7 days per week (p = .02). CONCLUSIONS Adolescents have substantial sleep duration and sleep timing differences on weekend nights vs. school nights. While these differences may not be associated with weight status or weight-related behaviors, they reflect the reality that most adolescents have schedules that restrict their sleep.

Abstract
Different strategies were followed to control the spread of the COVID-19 disease worldwide. Jordan declared a military-enforced curfew for three months, which successfully controlled the disease spreading. However, the curfew impacted several aspects of students’ lives and personalities. This study discusses the impact of the COVID-19 curfew restrictions on university students’ mental health, as this area was not fully discussed in previous studies. An online survey was distributed to cover the psychological symptoms and coping strategies of university students. Most of them experienced short temper, anxiety, and sleep problems. Female students expressed more psychological symptoms than males, they managed their stress by sleeping, studying, and worshiping. Whereas male students were working, exercising, and playing video games. A distinct interest was noticed among students of different ages. Young students (18–25 years) expressed unhappiness and distress-like symptoms; they advocated sleeping and playing video games. While elder students (>26 years) had anxiety, sleep problems, and short tempers, they managed their symptoms by studying, exercising, and worshiping. The curfew restrictions have negatively impacted the mental health of female and younger students more than other categories. These research outcomes will help decision-makers to implement healthy coping strategies to be followed during unusual conditions.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW In this review, we aim to discuss the pathophysiologic basis of hypertension in sleep disorders and the current evidence in the medical literature linking sleep disorders and hypertension in children. RECENT FINDINGS The medical literature in adults is clear about the contribution of sleep disorders, poor sleep quality, and sleep deprivation to hypertension and increased cardiovascular risk. The literature on cardiovascular consequences of sleep disorders in children is not as robust, but there is some evidence of early cardiovascular changes in children with sleep deprivation and obstructive sleep apnea. Children with obstructive sleep apnea have increased sympathetic activation during sleep, blunted dipping, or elevated systolic or diastolic pressures. Although the literature on other sleep disorders such as narcolepsy and restless legs syndrome is scarce, there is evidence in adults and some recent supportive data in children.

Abstract
Sleep may play a role in overweight and obesity in adolescents. The objective of this study is to investigate the relationships between sleep duration and timing and overweight and obesity status in adolescents, with a special emphasis on weekday-weekend difference in sleep characteristics as well as sex-specific relationships. We examined 1,254 U.S. adolescents (12-17 years) self-reported sleep duration, timing, weekday-weekend differences in duration and timing in relation to overweight and obesity. We found an inverse association between sleep duration and overweight and obesity. Compared to 8-9 h of sleep, short sleep (< 7 h) on weekdays was associated with higher odds of overweight and obesity [Odds ratio (95% confidence interval), 1.73 (1.00, 2.97)] in the overall population, while long sleep (10+ h) on weekends was associated with lower odds, but only in males [0.56 (0.34, 0.92)]. We also found that a larger weekday-weekend difference in sleep duration was associated with overweight and obesity in females, but not in males. Specifically, the odds of overweight and obesity were significantly higher among females reporting longer sleep on weekends than weekdays by ≥ 2 h [2.31 (1.15, 4.63)] when compared to those reporting little weekday-weekend differences. Sleep timing, or weekday-weekend differences in sleep timing, were not associated with overweight and obesity in the overall population, although we found suggestive evidence linking later weekend sleep with overweight and obesity in females. Our findings support a role of sleep in adolescent obesity and suggest sex-differences in this relationship that warrant future studies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To review the epidemiological evidence of the association between sleep duration and blood pressure in adolescents. DATA SOURCES We performed a systematic review of observational studies in Medline, Scopus, Lilacs, Web of Science, Science Direct databases and Virtual Libraries in English, Spanish and Portuguese published until September 2018. Studies were selected first by title and abstract, then by complete reading, according to the eligibility criteria. The reference list of selected articles was evaluated in order to retrieve relevant studies. DATA SYNTHESIS Initially, 1,455 articles were retrieved. After exclusion due to duplicity or not meeting the eligibility criteria, 13 articles were included in the review. Studies varied greatly in sample size (143 to 6,940 patients), methods of measuring blood pressure and sleep duration, cutoff points, categorization and adjustment of variables. The main evidence from the studies is that short sleep duration is associated with high blood pressure in adolescence, although the presence of association between high blood pressure and long sleep duration is possible, but not clear in the literature. CONCLUSIONS Sleep duration, especially short duration, is associated with high blood pressure in adolescents. Such evidence draws attention to implications on cardiovascular health in this age group.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES Studies have shown racial differences in circadian rhythm in African Americans when compared to non-Hispanic whites, and an association between circadian dyssynchrony and depression. We hypothesized that the prevalence of delayed sleep time is greater in African Americans when compared to whites and that delayed sleep time is associated with depression. METHODS We analyzed data from the Sleep Heart Health Study (SHHS), a large community-based sample. Delayed sleep time was defined as self-reported weeknight bedtime after midnight. Depression was defined based on participant's response to the question, "In the past 4 weeks have you felt downhearted and blue?" or reported antidepressant use. We performed multivariate linear and logistic regression, adjusting for age, sex, race, body mass index, smoking, apnea-hypopnea index, alcohol use, and caffeine consumption. RESULTS Adjusted weekday bedtime was 15 ± 7 minutes later in African Americans compared to whites (P < .001). Similarly, weekend bedtime was 18 ± 7 minutes later in African Americans compared to whites (P = .025). The prevalence of delayed sleep time was greater in African Americans (33.3%) compared to whites (18.7%; P < .001). After adjusting for confounders, when compared to whites, a greater proportion of African Americans had delayed sleep time (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 2.03; 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.5, 2.4; P < .0001). Depression was independently associated with delayed sleep time after adjustment (aOR 1.4; 95% CI 1.1, 1.7; P = .007). CONCLUSIONS African Americans are more likely to have a delayed sleep time compared to whites, and delayed sleep time was independently associated with depression.

Abstract
Objectives: Weekend oversleep or catch-up sleep is common among adolescents, but relatively few data are available with regard to its effects on asthma. Our aim was to investigate whether weekend oversleep is associated with ever having asthma among Korean adolescents. Methods: We analyzed web-based self-reported data from the Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey in 25,927 physician-diagnosed adolescent asthma cases and 266,160 non-asthma cases. Self-report questionnaires were used to assess socioeconomic status, health behaviors, psychological factors and sleep patterns. Multiple logistic regression after adjusting for factors was used to determine the association between sleep and asthma. Results: The asthma group slept less (≤5 hours: 23.9% vs. 22.8%) had a later weekend bedtime (≥1:00 AM: 58.1% vs. 57.8%), and an earlier weekend wake time (≤7:00 AM: 18.1% vs. 17.0%) compared to the non-asthma group. After multiple logistic regression, a sleep duration ≤5 hours (odds ratio (OR), 1.09; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.04-1.14) and weekend "early bird" (weekend wake time ≤7:00 AM: OR, 1.03; 95% CI, 1.00-1.07) were significantly associated with an increased frequency of asthma. Long weekend catch-up sleep (weekend sleep duration minus weekday sleep duration ≥2 hours) was significantly associated with a decreased frequency of asthma (OR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.94-0.99). Conclusion: Long weekend catch-up sleep, as an indicator of insufficient weekday sleep, is associated with a decreased frequency of asthma in Korean adolescents.
