Abstract
BACKGROUND Remnant cholesterol (RC) is highly associated with several chronic diseases. However, the relationship between RC and Metabolic syndrome (MetS) remains unclear. The study's objective is to illustrate the relationship of RC to MetS. METHODS The data were collected from the Chinese Nutrition and Health Surveillance (2015-2017), which included personal, household and dietary information. A total of 65,618 residents aged 20 years or older from 31 provinces in mainland China were included in this study. RC was calculated by the equation RC = TC - (LDL-C + HDL-C). The criteria for MetS were based on the 2020 Chinese Type 2 Diabetes Prevention and Treatment Guidelines. Logistic regression models were used to analyse the relationship between RC and MetS and every MetS component. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was established to evaluate the accuracy of RC in identifying MetS, and the area under the curve (AUC) and the best threshold were calculated. RESULTS The weighted RC level of Chinese residents aged 20 years or older was 0.48 mmol/L. Participants with high RC levels were likely to be elderly, have a higher prevalence of MetS, higher total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), fasting blood glucose (FBG), hba1c, and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Sex, body mass index (BMI), education status, household yearly income per capita, marital status, area of the country, residence location, smoking status, fruit intake and sleep time had statistical differences in the RC group (p < 0.05). The OR of MetS gradually increased with an increase in the RC quartile (p < 0.01), and higher quartiles of RC (Q4) suggested the highest MetS risk. The prevalence of each MetS component gradually increased with an increase in the RC quartile. The ROC curve found that to identify MetS, the AUC and best threshold of RC were 0.71 and 0.52 mmol/L, respectively. CONCLUSIONS RC had a positive association with MetS and each MetS component. The accuracy in identifying MetS was higher in RC than in other indexes. The current study could provide new scientific evidence for the early prevention and control of MetS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Remnant cholesterol (RC), a potent atherogenic lipid, has been shown to be strongly correlated with insulin resistance and the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus. However, the relationship between RC and normoglycemia reversal in individuals with impaired fasting glucose (IFG) is crucial and remains unclear. This investigation, which aimed to clarify this association, is important for understanding and potentially improving the management of diabetes. METHOD This study, which included 15,019 IFG participants from 11 Chinese cities between 2010 and 2016, was conducted with a rigorous research process. Cox regression analysis revealed intriguing findings regarding the relationship between RC and normoglycemia reversal in individuals with IFG. Potential nonlinear associations were further explored via smooth curve-fitting techniques and 4-knot restricted cubic spline functions, ensuring a comprehensive analysis. To examine the validity of the results, an array of subgroup and sensitivity analyses were conducted, further bolstering the robustness of the findings. RESULTS By the end of the 2.89-year median follow-up period, 6,483 of the 15,019 IFG participants (43.17%) had reverted to normoglycemia. The findings, which reveal that increased RC levels are inversely associated with the likelihood of normoglycemia reversal, are novel and significant. According to the fully adjusted Cox proportional hazards model analysis, an increase of one standard deviation in RC was associated with a 20% decrease in the likelihood of normoglycemia reversal among IFG participants (HR: 0.80, 95% CI: 0.77-0.82). A nonlinear association between RC and normoglycemia reversal was observed, with an inflection point at 41.37 mg/dL. This suggests that the growth rate of the likelihood of reversion decreased and stabilized after the inflection point was reached. Moreover, significant interactions were observed between the age groups, providing a more nuanced understanding of this complex relationship. CONCLUSION Among Chinese adults with IFG, RC exhibited a negative nonlinear relationship with the probability of normoglycemia reversal. When RC levels reached or exceeded 41.38 mg/dL, the probability of achieving normoglycemia progressively diminished and subsequently stabilized. Maintaining RC levels below 41.38 mg/dL can significantly improve the probability of normoglycemia reversal among individuals with IFG, especially those aged 60 years or older.

Abstract
AIMS To explore the relationship between remnant cholesterol (RC) and the risk of premature mortality as well as life expectancy in the general population. METHODS We included a total of 428 804 participants from the UK Biobank for analyses. Equivalent population percentiles approach based on the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol cut-off points was performed to categorize participants into three RC groups: low (with a mean RC of 0.34 mmol/L), moderate (0.53 mmol/L), and high (1.02 mmol/L). We used multivariable Cox proportional hazards models to evaluate the relationship between RC groups and the risk of premature mortality (defined as death before age 75 years). Life table methods were used to estimate life expectancy by RC groups. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 12.1 years (Q1-Q3 11.0-13.0), there were 23 693 all-cause premature deaths documented, with an incidence of 4.83 events per 1000 person-years [95% confidence interval (CI): 4.77-4.89]. Compared with the low RC group, the moderate RC group was associated with a 9% increased risk of all-cause premature mortality [hazard ratio (HR) = 1.09, 95% CI: 1.05-1.14], while the high RC group had an 11% higher risk (HR = 1.11, 95% CI: 1.07-1.16). At the age of 50 years, high RC group was associated with an average 2.2 lower years of life expectancy for females, and an average 0.1 lower years of life expectancy for males when compared with their counterparts in the low RC group. CONCLUSIONS Elevated RC was significantly related to an increased risk of premature mortality and a reduced life expectancy. Premature death in the general population would benefit from measurement to aid risk stratification and proactive management of RC to improve cardiovascular risk prevention efforts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Remnant cholesterol (RC) reportedly contributes to the development of diabetes mellitus. However, evidence on the relationship between maternal RC and the risk of developing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) during pregnancy is limited. This study aimed to assess the relationship between maternal RC and GDM risk during early pregnancy, and explore the potential pathways involved in the relationship between RC levels and GDM risk. METHODS From 2018 to 2021, a prospective birth cohort study was designed and carried out in China. The associations of maternal RC and other lipid parameters with GDM risk were estimated using logistic regression models and restricted cubic splines. Subgroup analyses were performed stratified by prepregnancy body mass index (pre-BMI), maternal age and gravidity. Mediation analyses were conducted to explore the mediating effect of some related factors on the relationship between RC levels and the risk of GDM. RESULTS A total of 33,018 pregnant women were included. The median RC level was 0.47 ± 0.20 mmol/L. The prevalence of GDM was 15.19%. As RC quartiles increased, the incidence of GDM increased substantially, reaching 19.24% for the highest quartile of RC (P < 0.001). Maternal RC in the first trimester was positively correlated with GDM risk (OR: 2.254, 95% CI: 1.943-2.615). Compared to the lowest RC quartile, higher RC quartiles were correlated with an increased risk of GDM, and the ORs (95% CIs) for Q3 and Q4 were 1.208 (1.101-1.325) and 1.489 (1.364-1.626), respectively. Moreover, a linear dose-response relationship was found for this association (P for all < 0.001, P for nonlinearity > 0.05) and was consistent across subgroups with different pre-BMIs, maternal ages and gravidities (all P values for interactions > 0.05). Furthermore, the correlation between RC level and GDM risk was partially mediated by pre-BMI (9.20%) and blood glucose level (-11.1%). CONCLUSIONS Higher maternal RC levels in the early stage of pregnancy was positively associated with an increased risk of developing GDM. This association was partially mediated by pre- BMI and blood glucose levels.

Abstract
Despite the clear association between remnant cholesterol (RC)and diabetes risk, no study to date has examined the relationship between RC and reversal of prediabetes to normoglycemia. This retrospective cohort study included a total of 15,023 patients with prediabetes who underwent a physical examination between 2010 and 2016. The link between initial RC levels and the reversion from prediabetes to normoglycemia was analyzed using the Cox proportional-hazards regression model. Additionally, the study explored the possible relationship between RC and the probability of returning normoglycemia by applying Cox proportional hazards regression models with cubic spline functions. To address competing risks, a multivariate Cox regression analysis was undertaken, treating the onset of diabetes as a competing risk event for reversing prediabetes to normoglycemia. Additionally, the study incorporated extensive subgroup analyses alongside multiple sensitivity analyses, enhancing the reliability and robustness of the results. After adjusting for covariates, the findings indicated that RC was inversely associated with the likelihood of reverting to normoglycemia (per 5 mg/dL increase, HR = 0.918, 95% CI 0.909-0.927). The analysis also revealed a nonlinear relationship between RC and normoglycemia reversion, with an inflection point at 51.08 mg/dL. For RC values below this inflection point (RC < 50.08 mg/dL), the HR for the probability of returning to normoglycemia was 0.907 (95% CI 0.897-0.917 per 5 mg/dL). Additionally, the competing risks model demonstrated a negative relationship between RC and the reversal of prediabetes to normoglycemia (SHR = 0.92, 95% CI 0.91-0.93). Sensitivity analyses confirmed the robustness and stability of these results. This study demonstrated a negative and non-linear association between RC and the probability of reversion to normoglycemia in Chinese adults with prediabetes. By actively intervening to reduce RC levels, at least to below 51.08 mg/dL, further reduction of RC may significantly increase the probability of returning to normoglycemia from prediabetes.

Abstract
AIM We compared the association between the baseline and average lipid parameters over time and the coronary artery calcification (CAC) risk. METHODS Participants who underwent annual (biannual) health examinations and coronary artery computed tomography to measure CAC at least twice between March 2010 and December 2019, with a baseline CAC of 0, were included. The levels of apolipoprotein B (ApoB), Apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA1), ApoB/ApoA1, non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), TG/HDL-C, and TC/HDL-C were measured or calculated. The remnant cholesterol (RC) levels were calculated. The average lipid parameters before study entry were calculated using data from 2002 to 2010. The participants were divided into quartiles (Q) according to the parameter values. Cox proportional hazard modeling, adjusted for confounding factors, compared the CAC risk of the highest quartile to the lowest quartile. RESULTS Among 29,278 participants (mean age, 39.19±5.21; men, 88.27%), 2,779 developed CAC >0. The highest quartile of ApoB showed a numerically strong association with CAC risk, compared with the lowest quartile of ApoB (Q1: reference; Q2: HR,1.41, 95% CI,1.25-1.59; Q3: HR,1.97, 95% CI,1.75-2.21; Q4: HR,2.72, 95% CI,2.41-3.07). RC showed a modest association with CAC risk (Q1: reference; Q2: HR,1.13, 95% CI,0.99-1.28; Q3: HR,1.3, 95% CI,1.15-1.47; Q4: HR,1.7, 95% CI,1.51-1.91). The strength of the association was comparable between the parameters at baseline and the average lipid parameters over time. CONCLUSIONS A high ApoB level showed a strong association with CAC risk compared with the lowest ApoB quartile. The baseline lipid parameters can predict CAC development as effectively as the average of multiple measurements can.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Not many large-sample investigations are available that compare the potency of the relationship of remnant cholesterol (RC) and other lipid parameters with diabetes and prediabetes. The goals of our study are to discover the relationship between RC and prediabetes, diabetes, and insulin resistance (IR) and to investigate RC, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), non-HDL-C, triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), total cholesterol (TC), TC/HDL-C, LDL-C/HDL-C, and TG/HDL-C, which are the lipid parameters that are most positively related to diabetes, prediabetes, and IR. METHODS This research enrolled 36 684 subjects from China's eight provinces. We employed multiple logistic regression analysis for testing the relationship between lipid parameters and diabetes, prediabetes, and IR. RESULTS After adjusting for potential confounders, and comparing the results with other lipid parameters, the positive relationship between RC and diabetes (odds ratio [OR] 1.417, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.345-1.492), prediabetes (OR 1.555, 95% CI: 1.438-1.628), and IR (OR 1.488, 95% CI: 1.404-1.577) was highest. RC was still related to diabetes, prediabetes, and IR even when TG <2.3 mmol/L (diabetes: OR 1.256, 95% CI: 1.135-1.390; prediabetes: OR 1.503, 95% CI: 1.342-1.684; and IR: OR 1.278, 95% CI: 1.140-1.433), LDL-C <2.6 mmol/L (diabetes: OR 1.306, 95% CI: 1.203-1.418; prediabetes: OR 1.597, 95% CI: 1.418-1.798; and IR: OR 1.552, 95% CI: 1.416-1.701), or HDL-C ≥1 mmol/L (diabetes: OR 1.456, 95% CI: 1.366-1.550; prediabetes: OR 1.553, 95% CI: 1.421-1.697; and IR: OR 1.490, 95% CI: 1.389-1.598). CONCLUSION RC is more positively related to diabetes, prediabetes, and IR than conventional lipids and lipid ratios in the general population, the relationships between RC and diabetes, prediabetes, and IR are stable, even if HDL-C, LDL-C, or TG are at appropriate levels.

Abstract
Renal dysfunction can lead to insulin resistance and increase the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The blood urea nitrogen to creatinine ratio (NCR) is a frequently used indicator to assess renal dysfunction and differentiate between prerenal and intrinsic renal injury. However, the association between NCR and T2DM in the Chinese population remains unclear. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the association between NCR and the incidence of T2DM in the Chinese population. The relationship between NCR and T2DM was examined using the Cox proportional hazards model and curve fitting techniques. In addition, a comprehensive set of sensitivity and subgroup analyses were performed. All results were presented as hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Between 2010 and 2016, 189,416 Chinese people were recruited from the Rich Healthcare Group for this retrospective cohort study. Of the participants, 3755 (19.8%) were diagnosed with T2DM during the follow-up period. After full adjustment, the Cox proportional hazards model revealed a positive connection between NCR and the incidence of T2DM (HR = 1.03, 95% CI: 1.02-1.04, P < .001). Compared with individuals with lower NCR Q1 (≤13.536), the multivariate HR for NCR and T2DM in Q2 (13.536-16.256), Q3 (16.256-19.638), Q4 (>19.638) were 1.08 (0.98-1.19), 1.16 (1.05-1.28), 1.39 (1.26-1.53). The higher NCR groups (≥20) had a higher ratio of T2DM (HR = 1.28, 95% CI: 1.18-1.38, P < .001) than the lowest NCR group (<20). These findings were validated using sensitivity and subgroup analyses. In conclusion, this study found a positive and independent association between NCR and the incidence of T2DM after adjusting for confounding variables.

Abstract
AIM Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the most common cause of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Remnant cholesterol has been investigated as a predictor for the progression of DN in type 1 diabetes mellitus patients, as well as the incidence of DN in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. This study aimed to evaluate the longitudinal relationship between baseline remnant cholesterol and kidney outcomes using a Chinese T2DM with biopsy-confirmed DN cohort. METHODS We included 334 patients with T2DM and biopsy-confirmed DN during 2010-2019 West China Hospital T2DM-DN cohort. Remnant cholesterol was defined by Martin-Hopkins equation. Patients were divided into four groups based on the median (IQR) remnant cholesterol concentration at the time of renal biopsy. The kidney outcome was defined as ESKD, which was defined as the need for chronic kidney replacement therapy or estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 15 mL/min/1.73 m2. The relationship between remnant cholesterol and kidney outcome was analyzed using the Kaplan‒Meier method and Cox regression analysis. RESULTS The mean age was 51.1 years, and 235 (70%) were men. During follow-up, a total of 121 (36.2%) patients reached ESKD. The Kaplan‒Meier analysis showed that patients in the highest quartile (quartile 4) group had lower cumulative renal survival (log-rank test, p = 0.033) and shorter median renal survival time [34.0 (26.4-41.6) vs. 55.0 (29.8-80.2) months] than patients in the lowest quartile (quartile 1) group. By univariate analysis, the high remnant cholesterol group was associated with a higher risk of progression to ESKD. Moreover, the risk of progression to ESKD in the highest quartile was still 2.857-fold (95% CI 1.305-6.257, p = 0.009) higher than that in the lowest quartile, and one-SD increase of remnant cholesterol was associated with a higher risk (HR = 1.424; 95% CI 1.075-1.886, p = 0.014) of progression to ESKD, after adjusted for confounding factors. CONCLUSIONS High remnant cholesterol is independently associated with a higher risk of ESKD in patients with T2DM-DN, and it may be a new noninvasive marker of ESKD. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Calculated remnant cholesterol has the advantages of being economical and clinically accessible. Moreover, to our knowledge, there are no longitudinal cohort studies for investigating the risk of progression of T2DM-DN to ESKD. In our study, higher remnant cholesterol was associated with a higher risk of ESKD in patients with T2DM-DN, and it may be a new noninvasive predictor of ESKD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Remnant cholesterol (RC) has been known as an important factor for the assessment of the metabolic syndrome (Mets) risk. However, the correlation between RC and hyperuricemia (HUA) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains unclear. This study aims to explore the correlation between RC and HUA in patients with T2DM. METHODS A total of 2956 patients with T2DM admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital and Yuying Children's Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from 2020 to 2022 were included. The correlation between RC and HUA was evaluated with Spearman's correlation, multiple logistic regression, subgroup analyses, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves analyses and generalized smooth curve fitting. Total cholesterol (TC) < 5.18mmol/L was defined as normal TC. RESULTS RC was correlated with uric acid in patients with T2DM (Spearman's correlation coefficient = 0.279, P < 0.001). According to the multiple logistic regression analyses, there was an independent positive correlation between RC and HUA (OR = 1.63, 95%CI = 1.40, 1.90). In addition, a non-linear correlation between RC and HUA was identified. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of RC (0.658, 95%CI = 0.635, 0.681) was the largest compared with those of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and TC. Subgroup analyses showed a more significant positive correlation among females or normal TC groups. CONCLUSION Elevated RC is correlated with HUA in patients with T2DM significantly and positively. RC is better in its predictability for HUA than that of conventional lipid indexes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Remnant cholesterol (RC) is thought to be an important pathogenic risk factor for atherosclerosis, however, the relationship between RC and acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is still unclear. This study aimed to determine whether fasting blood RC level is an independent risk factor for AIS. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective analysis was performed on 650 patients with AIS and 598 healthy controls during the same time period. The association between RC and AIS was investigated using binary logistic regression, and the relationship between RC and AIS risk was demonstrated using Restricted Cubic Splines (RCS). RESULTS RC was significantly higher in the AIS group compared with control group, and was an independent risk factor for AIS when the covariates were not adjusted;After adjusting some covariates, RC was still an independent risk factor for AIS. The RCS analysis found the risk was non-linear: when RC concentration was less than 0.69 mol/L, the risk of AIS increased with the elevation of RC, and when RC concentration was more than or equal to 0.69 mol/L, the risk of AIS was insignificant with the elevation of RC. Correlation analysis revealed that RC was associated with diabetes and fasting glucose. Further analysis revealed that the incidence of AIS in diabetic patients increased significantly with the increase of RC, and RCS analysis revealed that the risk of AIS in diabetic patients increased with the increase of RC when RC was more than 1.15 mol/L. CONCLUSIONS This study confirms RC as an independent risk factor for AIS, which highlights a distinct non-linear association between RC levels and AIS risk. These findings suggest the need for targeted AIS risk assessment strategies, especially in diabetic patients, and underscore the relevance of RC as a biomarker in AIS risk stratification.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Body mass index (BMI) and lipid disorders are both known to be strongly associated with the development of diabetes, however, the indirect effect of lipid parameters in the BMI-related diabetes risk is currently unknown. This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of lipid parameters in the association of BMI with diabetes risk. METHODS We assessed the association of diabetes risk with BMI, as well as lipid parameters including high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-CF and LDL-CS), triglycerides(TG), total cholesterol(TC), remnant cholesterol(RC), non-HDL-C, and combined indices of lipid parameters with HDL-C (RC/HDL-C ratio, TG/HDL-C ratio, TC/HDL-C ratio, non-HDL/HDL-C ratio, LDL/HDL-C ratio) using data from 15,453 subjects in the NAGALA project. Mediation models were used to explore the mediating role of lipid parameters in the association of BMI with diabetes risk, and mediation percentages were calculated for quantifying the strength of the indirect effects. Finally, receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was used to compare the accuracy of BMI and BMI combined with lipid parameters in predicting incident diabetes. RESULTS Multivariate regression models, adjusted for confounding factors, demonstrated robust associations of lipid parameters, BMI, with diabetes risk, with the exception of TC, LDL-CF, LDL-CS, and non-HDL-C. Mediation analysis showed that lipid parameters except TC, LDL-CF, LDL-CS, and Non-HDL-C were involved in and mediated the association of BMI with diabetes risk, with the largest mediation percentage being the RC/HDL-C ratio, which was as high as 40%; it is worth mentioning that HDL-C and HDL-C-related lipid ratio parameters also play an important mediating role in the association between BMI and diabetes, with the mediator proportion being greater than 30%. Finally, based on the ROC results, we found that the prediction performance of all lipid parameters in the current study except TC was significantly improved when combined with BMI. CONCLUSION Our fresh findings suggested that lipid parameters partially mediated the association of BMI with diabetes risk; this result indicated that in the context of diabetes risk screening and disease management, it is important to not only monitor BMI but also pay attention to lipid parameters, particularly HDL-C and HDL-C-related lipid ratio parameters.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Remnant cholesterol (RC) is recognized as a risk factor for diabetes mellitus (DM). Although iron status has been shown to be associated with cholesterol metabolism and DM, the association between RC, iron status, and DM remains unclear. We examined the relationship between RC and iron status and investigated the role of iron status in the association between RC and DM. METHODS A total of 7308 patients were enrolled from the China Health and Nutrition Survey. RC was calculated as total cholesterol minus low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Iron status was assessed as serum ferritin (SF) and total body iron (TBI). DM was ascertained by self-reported physician diagnosis and/or antidiabetic drug use and/or fasting plasma glucose ≥ 126 mg/dL and/or glycated haemoglobin ≥ 6.5%. General linear models were used to evaluate the relationships between RC and iron status. Restricted cubic splines were used to assess the association between RC and DM. Mediation analysis was used to clarified the mediating role of iron status in the association between the RC and DM. RESULTS The average age of the participants was 50.6 (standard deviation = 15.1) years. Higher RC was significantly associated with increased SF (β = 73.14, SE = 3.75, 95% confidence interval [CI] 65.79-80.49) and TBI (β = 1.61, SE = 0.08, 95% CI 1.44-1.78). J-shape relationships were found in the association between RC levels with DM, as well as iron status with DM. Significant indirect effects of SF and TBI in the association between RC and DM were found, with the index mediated at 9.58% and 6.37%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS RC has a dose-response relationship with iron status. The association between RC and DM was mediated in part by iron status. Future studies are needed to confirm these findings and further clarify the underlying mechanism.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the associations of components of the lipid panel (and its derivatives) with intra-pancreatic fat deposition (IPFD). METHODS All participants underwent abdominal magnetic resonance imaging on the same 3.0-Tesla scanner and IPFD was quantified. Blood samples were collected in the fasted state for analysis of lipid panel components. A series of linear regression analyses was conducted, adjusting for age, sex, ethnicity, body mass index, fasting plasma glucose, homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance, and liver fat deposition. RESULTS A total of 348 participants were included. Remnant cholesterol (P = 0.010) and triglyceride levels (P = 0.008) were positively, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level (P = 0.001) was negatively, associated with total IPFD in the most adjusted model. Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and total cholesterol were not significantly associated with total IPFD. Of the lipid panel components investigated, remnant cholesterol explained the greatest proportion (9.9%) of the variance in total IPFD. CONCLUSION Components of the lipid panel have different associations with IPFD. This may open up new opportunities for improving outcomes in people at high risk for cardiovascular diseases (who have normal low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) by reducing IPFD.

Abstract
CONTEXT The association between remnant cholesterol (RC) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk is unclear. OBJECTIVE This study investigated the association between RC and GDM. METHODS We used data from the Tongji Maternal and Child Health Cohort, a prospective cohort study in China. Fasting lipid concentrations were measured around 16 weeks' gestation. RC was calculated as total cholesterol minus low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. GDM was diagnosed by a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test at 24 to 28 weeks' gestation. Log-Poisson regression models were performed to estimate relative risks (RRs) of GDM across quartiles of RC levels and triglyceride (TG) levels after adjustment for potential confounders. TG and RC were mutually adjusted. RESULTS Among 2528 women, 256 (10.1%) developed GDM. The adjusted RRs (95% CIs) for GDM across increasing quartiles of RC were 1.00 (reference), 1.35 (0.91, 1.99), 1.68 (1.16, 2.45), and 1.73 (1.19, 2.50), respectively. Compared to pregnant women without 3 risk indicators (TG <2.08 mmol/L, RC <0.40 mmol/L, and pre-BMI <24.0 kg/m2), the risk of GDM was elevated in those with normal pre-BMI but high RC (aRR: 1.54; 95% CI: 1.08, 2.19) or high TG (aRR: 2.15; 95% CI: 1.33, 3.49). For those with all 3 risk indicators, the risk of GDM was the highest (aRR: 4.80; 95% CI: 3.20, 7.18). CONCLUSION Elevated RC levels were associated with the increased risk of GDM and independent of traditional risk factors. Pregnant women with high pre-BMI, high TG, and high RC were at greatly increased risk of GDM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Epidemiologic evidence suggested that remnant cholesterol (RC) is associated with the occurrence of cardiovascular disease (CVD). In recent years, RC has been connected with different types of cardiometabolic disorders. We aim to clarify the relationship among RC, metabolic syndrome (MetS) and subsequent CVD. METHODS We enrolled 7471 individuals into our study from China Health and Nutrition Survey in 2009 and followed participants till 2015. RC was calculated as total cholesterol minus low-density lipoprotein cholesterol minus high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. CVD was defined as myocardial infarction and stroke. Multivariate logistic regression and Cox regression models were used to evaluate the association between RC and MetS as well as CVD. We further investigated whether the association between RC and CVD was mediated by MetS. RESULTS Of all subjects, 24.73% were diagnosed with MetS and 2.74% developed CVD. Multivariate logistic regression analysis elucidated that per-tertile-increase in RC was associated with MetS after adjusting all the confounder factors, (odds ratio: 3.49, 95% confidence interval CI 3.21-3.79, P for trend < 0.001). And per-tertile-increase RC had a significant increased risk of CVD (hazard ratio: 1.26, 95% CI 1.06-1.50, P for trend = 0.008). Meanwhile, we found that RC level is associated with the prevalence of all the components of MetS. Significant indirect effects of RC between MetS and CVD were found, with the index mediated at 48.46% of the association. CONCLUSIONS Our study provides the evidence that RC level is independently associated with the prevalence of MetS and each component of MetS. MetS partially mediated the association between RC level and CVD risk.

Abstract
PURPOSE Cholesterol metabolism is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and recent studies have shown that cholesterol metabolism poses a residual risk of cardiovascular disease even when conventional lipid risk factors are in the optimal range. The association between remnant cholesterol (RC) and cardiovascular disease has been demonstrated; however, its association with hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and the concomitance of the two diseases requires further study. This study aimed to evaluate the association of RC with hypertension, T2DM, and both in a large sample of the U.S. population, and to further explore the potential mechanisms involved. METHODS This cross-sectional study used data from the 2005-2018 cycles of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (N = 17,749). Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to explore the relationships of RC with hypertension, T2DM, and both comorbidities. A restricted cubic spline regression model was used to reveal the dose effect. Mediation analyses were performed to explore the potential mediating roles of inflammation-related indicators in these associations. RESULTS Of the 17,749 participants included (mean [SD] age: 41.57 [0.23] years; women: 8983 (50.6%), men: 8766 (49.4%)), the prevalence of hypertension, T2DM, and their co-occurrence was 32.6%, 16.1%, and 11.0%, respectively. Higher RC concentrations were associated with an increased risk of hypertension, T2DM, and their co-occurrence (adjusted odds ratios for per unit increase in RC were 1.068, 2.259, and 2.362, and 95% confidence intervals were 1.063-1.073, 1.797-2.838, and 1.834-3.041, respectively), with a linear dose-response relationship. Even when conventional lipids were present at normal levels, positive associations were observed. Inflammation-related indicators (leukocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, and neutrophils) partially mediated these associations. Among these, leukocytes had the greatest mediating effect (10.8%, 14.5%, and 14.0%, respectively). CONCLUSION The results of this study provide evidence that RC is associated with the risk of hypertension, T2DM, and their co-occurrence, possibly mediated by an inflammatory response.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE No evidence has been found of a relationship between remnant cholesterol (RC) and the likelihood of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in pregnant women. The aim of our study was to investigate the link between serum RC at 12-14 weeks of gestation and the risk of GDM. METHODS This was a secondary analysis with data from a prospective cohort study in Korea. A total of 590 single pregnant women attending two hospitals in Korea, up to 14 weeks gestation, from November 2014 to July 2016 were included in the study. The formula used to calculate RC in detail was RC (mg/dL) = TC (mg/dL)-HDL-c (mg/dL)-LDL-c (mg/dL). Logistic regression models were employed to examine the relationship between RC and GDM and explore the association between other lipoprotein cholesterol parameters and the risk of GDM. Furthermore, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to assess the ability of RC to identify GDM. Additionally, sensitivity and subgroup analyses were conducted. RESULTS The mean age of participants was 32.06 ± 3.80 years. The median of RC was 34.66 mg/dL. 37 pregnant women (6.27%) were eventually diagnosed with GDM. Multivariate adjusted logistic regression analysis showed that RC was positively associated with the risk of GDM (OR = 1.458, 95% CI 1.221, 1.741). There was no significant association between other lipoprotein cholesterols (including TC, LDL-c, HDL-c) and the risk of GDM. The area under the ROC curve for RC as a predictor of GDM was 0.8038 (95% CI 0.7338-0.8738), and the optimal RC cut-off was 24.30 mg/dL. Our findings were demonstrated to be robust by performing a series of sensitivity analyses. CONCLUSION Serum RC levels at 12-14 weeks of gestation are positively associated with GDM risk in pregnant women. RC in early pregnancy is an early warning indicator of GDM in pregnant women, especially those with normal HDL-c, LDL-c, and TC that are easily overlooked. There is a high risk of developing GDM in pregnant women whose RC is more than 24.30 mg/dL. This study may help optimize GDM prevention in pregnant women and facilitate communication between physicians, pregnant patients, and their families.

Abstract
Background Remnant cholesterol (RC) has been suggested to be implicated in atherosclerosis. The objective of the study was to evaluate the association between RC and first-ever stroke in the Chinese general population and to investigate whether the association is mediated via hypertension or diabetes. Methods This study is a retrospective cohort analysis of participants from the China Health and Nutrition Survey. Participants without previous stroke and myocardial infarction in 2009 were enrolled and followed up in 2011 and 2015. Logistic regression analyses were adopted to explore the association of RC with stroke risk. Propensity score methods and doubly robust estimation method were used to ensure the robustness of our findings. Potential mediators were identified by mediation analyses. Results A total of 7,035 participants were involved, and during 6 years of follow-up, 78 (1.1%) participants experienced a first-ever stroke. Participants with high RC had a significantly higher incidence of stroke (1.4% versus 0.8%; p = 0.007). High RC was associated with 74% higher stroke risk after adjusting for multiple relevant variables (odds ratio [OR], 1.74; 95% CI, 1.06-2.85). The association was consistent in analyses using propensity score methods and doubly robust estimation method. Hypertension showed a significant mediating effect on the association between RC and stroke, while the mediating effect of diabetes was not significant. Conclusion High RC increased the risk of first-ever stroke in the Chinese general population without previous stroke and myocardial infarction, partially through the pathway of hypertension. RC might be a potential target for the primary prevention of stroke.

Abstract
Remnant cholesterol (RC) is a highly atherogenic lipid. Previous studies have shown that RC was closely associated with many metabolism-related diseases. However, the relationship of RC with metabolic syndrome (MetS) remains unclear. This study's objective is to investigate the relationship of RC with MetS. A total of 60,799 adults who received health assessments were included in this study. RC was calculated by subtracting the directly measured values for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) from total cholesterol (TC) and divided into 5 groups according to its quintile. MetS diagnosis according to National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP-ATP III) definitions. Application of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and multivariate logistic regression to assess the association of RC with MetS. In RC quintile groups, the prevalence of MetS was 0.84, 1.10, 1.92, 3.87 and 37.71%, respectively. Multivariate logical regression analysis showed that RC and MetS maintained a stable independent positive correlation between both sexes. An interaction test further showed that the MetS risk associated with RC was significantly higher in women than in men. Moreover, ROC analysis results showed that RC had high accuracy in identifying MetS, especially among young and middle-aged men [(area under the curve: AUC) < 30 years: 0.9572, 30-39 years: 0.9306, 40-49 years: 0.9067]. The current study provided the first evidence of a positive association between RC and MetS, and that this correlation was stronger in women than in man, which may be due to the relative deficiency of estrogen in women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The association between remnant cholesterol (RC) and diabetes remains unclear because of limited study and data. This study attempted to explore the association between RC and diabetes in a large sample, multicenter general population. METHODS The current study included 36 684 participants from eight provinces across China. Subjects were quartered according to the RC quartile. Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between RC and diabetes. RESULTS After adjusting for potential confounding factors, RC was still significantly associated with diabetes (Q4: odds ratio [OR]:1.147, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.049-1.254, p = .003). In addition, RC and diabetes were still significantly associated when triglycerides (TG) were <1.7 mmol/L (Q4: OR: 1.155, 95% CI: 1.005-1.327, p = .042), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) <3.4 mmol/L (Q4: OR: 1.130, 95% CI: 1.011-1.264, p = .032), or HDL-C (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol) ≥1.0 mmol/L (Q4: OR: 1.116, 95% CI: 1.007-1.237, p = .037). In the stratification analysis, elevated RC was significantly associated with diabetes in subjects with systolic blood pressure (SBP) <140 mm Hg and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) <90 mm Hg, 60 ≤ estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≤90 ml/min per 1.73 m2 , younger than 55 years old and female. CONCLUSION In the Chinese community, RC is significantly correlated with diabetes, even when TG, LDL-C, or HDL-C were controlled within the appropriate range recommended by the guidelines.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the association of remnant cholesterol (RC) with future type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) risk, and to assess the underlying impact of some recognized risk factors on it. METHODS A total of 11468 nondiabetic adults in rural China were recruited in 2007-2008 and followed up in 2013-2014. Logistic regression was used to assess the risk of incident T2DM by quartiles of baseline RC, estimating odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Association of the combinations of RC and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) with T2DM risk were further evaluated. RESULTS Multivariable adjusted OR (95% CI) for incident T2DM associated with quartile 4 versus quartile 1 of RC was 2.72 (2.05-3.62). Per 1-standard deviation (SD) increases in RC levels was associated with a 34% higher T2DM risk. However, gender modified the specific association (Pinteraction < 0.05), with the association stronger among females. When combining the low LDL-C and low RC groups as reference, individuals with RC levels ≥ 0.56 mmol/L had more than a 2-fold T2DM risk, regardless of LDL-C level. CONCLUSIONS Elevated RC levels increase T2DM risk in rural Chinese populations. In those who cannot control their risk by lowering LDL-C levels, the goal of lipid-lowering therapy can be shifted to RC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Although the atherogenic effect of remnant cholesterol (remnant-C) has been widely recognized, the relationship between remnant-C and glucose metabolism remains unclear. This retrospective, longitudinal study investigated the relationship between remnant-C and incident type 2 diabetes (T2D) in a nationwide cohort of Korean adults. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A total of 8,485,539 Korean adults without diabetes participated in the national health screening in 2009 and were followed up until 2019. The relationship between remnant-C quartiles and incident T2D was examined by Cox regression models. The risk of incident T2D over the continuum of remnant-C was examined with cubic spline analysis. RESULTS During the median follow-up period of 9.28 years, 584,649 individuals (6.8%) developed T2D. In multivariable-adjusted analyses, participants in the upper quartile of remnant-C had a higher risk of T2D, with hazard ratios of 1.25 (95% CI 1.24-1.27) in the second quartile, 1.51 (95% CI 1.50-1.53) in the third quartile, and 1.95 (95% CI 1.93-1.97) in the fourth quartile, compared with the lowest quartile. The increase in the risk of T2D owing to high remnant-C concentration was more profound in individuals with fewer traditional T2D risks, such as women, and absence of metabolic abnormalities, including impaired fasting glucose, hypertension, and atherogenic dyslipidemia. Moreover, the magnitude of the increased risk for incident T2D in individuals with higher remnant-C quartiles was higher in younger participants than older participants. CONCLUSIONS These findings indicate that remnant-C profiles provide additional information in predicting future progression of T2D, independent of the conventional lipid parameters.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The association between remnant cholesterol (RC) and diabetes remains unclear in Chinese. METHODS AND RESULTS We used the data of 9464 Chinese adults aged ≥45 years from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Estimated RC level was calculated as total cholesterol minus high-density lipoprotein cholesterol minus low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Cox proportional hazard models and restricted cubic spline models were used to assess the relationships between RC and diabetes. RESULTS After 6 years of follow-up, a total of 777 respondents experienced new-onset diabetes. In multivariable-adjusted analyses, the adjusted hazard ratios (95 % confidence intervals) for the highest versus lowest quartile of RC was 1.45 (1.19-1.75) for risk of diabetes, and each 1-SD increase of RC (19.52 mg/dl) was associated with 9 % (HRs = 1.09; 1.03-1.15) increased risk of diabetes. There were also significant linear associations between RC level and diabetes (P for linearity <0.001). CONCLUSION Elevated RC levels were positively associated with increased risk of diabetes in Chinese adult population, suggesting that RC could be considered as a preferential predictor and treatment target of diabetes in Chinese population. Future prospective studies are needed to verify our findings and to assess the effect of RC-lowering interventions in diabetes prevention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Elevated remnant cholesterol (RC) is associated with a higher risk of various cardiac diseases. Heart failure (HF) usually occurs at the end stage of various cardiac diseases. However, there is limited research on the association between RC and the risk of HF. Therefore, we aimed to provide relevant evidence by determining whether a high RC level also influences the risk of HF. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this secondary analysis of the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study, we included 12,595 participants without coronary heart disease. We determined the association of the RC level as a continuous or categorical variable with the risk of HF using the multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazards models and restricted cubic spline curve. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 22.5 years, 2,029 (16.1%) cases of HF occurred in all included participants. Compared with participants in the RC < 0.50 mmol/L group, the adjusted hazard ratio (HR) for HF increased progressively in participants with the RC level of 0.50 to 0.99 mmol/L, 1.00 to 1.49 mmol/L, and ≥1.50 mmol/L, from 1.17 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.05-1.30) to 1.27(95% CI: 1.08-1.49) and to 1.50 (95% CI: 1.14-1.97) (P for trend < 0.001). Cubic spline curves also revealed that the risk of HF increased with the RC level. CONCLUSION In the general population without coronary heart disease, a higher level of RC was significantly associated with a higher risk of HF, indicating that a higher RC level might be a potential risk factor for HF. Therefore, the management of blood cholesterol to reduce the risks of HF should focus not only on the traditional blood lipid parameters but also on the RC level.

Abstract
AIMS To evaluate the longitudinal association of remnant cholesterol with the incidence of diabetic nephropathy using a Chinese diabetes cohort. METHODS We included 4237 individuals with type 2 diabetes during 2013-2014 from Beijing Health Management Cohort. Remnant cholesterol was defined by Martin-Hopkins equation. Diabetic nephropathy was confirmed by urine albumin/creatinine ratio and estimated glomerular filtration rate. We calculated the hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for incident diabetic nephropathy using adjusted Cox proportional hazards regression. RESULTS The median [IQR] age was 55 [48, 64] years, and 3 256 (76.8 %) were men. During follow-up, 248 (5.9 %) participants developed diabetic nephropathy. One-SD increase of baseline and average cumulative remnant cholesterol were significantly associated with an increased risk of diabetic nephropathy, and the adjusted HRs were 1.208 (95 % CI: 1.098-1.329) and 1.216 (95 % CI: 1.102-1.341), respectively. Individuals in the highest tertile of baseline and average cumulative remnant cholesterol had a 82.3 % and 87.6 % excess risk of diabetic nephropathy, compared with those in the lowest. CONCLUSION Remnant cholesterol is independently associated with incident diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetes.

Hepatic Steatosis Index and the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in China: Insights from a General Population-Based Cohort Study. DISEASE MARKERS 2022; 2022:3150380. Abstract
Purpose In the Chinese population, we looked at the relationship between the hepatic steatosis index (HSI) and the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods To evaluate the association between HSI and the risk of T2DM, Cox regression models were employed. Hazard ratios (HR) and 95 percent confidence intervals (CI) were computed. A stratified analysis with interaction testing was also carried out. Additionally, we evaluated the incremental predictive value of the HSI over the established risk factors using the C-statistic, the IDI, and the NRI. Results During a median follow-up period of 2.97 years, 433 (1.97%) participants developed new-onset T2DM. The smoothing curve fit plot showed a positive correlation between HSI and the risk of T2DM. After adjusting for all noncollinear variables, the risk of T2DM increased by 62% for every 1 standard deviation (SD) increase in HSI. Subgroup analysis indicated that higher HSI levels were associated with a higher risk of T2DM in those aged < 40 years. The addition of HSI enhanced the reclassification and discrimination of established risk factors, with an IDI of 0.027 and an NRI of 0.348 (both P < 0.001). Conclusion Our findings suggest that an elevated HSI is substantially associated with a greater risk of T2DM in the Chinese population. HSI has the potential to be an available and supplementary monitoring method for the management of T2DM risk stratification in the Chinese population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous research has linked elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and remnant cholesterol (RC) with diabetes mellitus (DM). The present study aims to estimate the RC-related DM risk beyond LDL-C, and to investigate the extent to which the association of RC and DM is mediated via insulin resistance and inflammation. METHODS We enrolled 7308 individuals without previous history of DM into the present study from the China Health and Nutrition Survey. Fasting RC was calculated as total cholesterol minus LDL-C and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Subjects were divided into four groups according to their LDL-C (100 mg/dL) and RC (24 mg/dL) levels to evaluate the role of LDL-C vs. RC on DM. A logistic regression analysis was then employed to evaluate the relationships between the discordant/concordant LDL-C and RC and DM. A mediation analysis was undertaken to identify potential mediators. RESULTS Of all the participants, a total of 625 (8.55%) patients were newly diagnosed with DM. Compared to the high LDL-C/low RC group, the low LDL-C/high RC group was more common in DM patients. After a multivariate adjustment, elevated LDL-C and RC were associated with DM. Moreover, the low LDL-C/high RC group and the high LDL-C/low RC group manifested a 4.04-fold (95% CI 2.93-5.56) and 1.61-fold (95% CI 1.21-2.15) higher risk of DM, relative to those with low LDL-C/low RC. The subgroup analysis indicated that low LDL-C/high RC was more likely to be related to DM in females. Similar results were also shown when the sensitivity analyses were performed with different clinical cut-points of LDL-C. Insulin resistance and inflammation partially mediated the association between RC and DM. CONCLUSIONS Our findings provided evidence for RC beyond the LDL-C associations with DM that may be mediated via insulin resistance and the pro-inflammatory state. In addition, women are more susceptible to RC exposure-related DM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Conventional and unconventional lipid parameters are associated with diabetes risk, the comparative studies on lipid parameters for predicting future diabetes risk, however, are still extremely limited, and the value of conventional and unconventional lipid parameters in predicting future diabetes has not been evaluated. This study was designed to determine the predictive value of conventional and unconventional lipid parameters for the future development of diabetes. METHODS The study was a longitudinal follow-up study of 15,464 participants with baseline normoglycemia. At baseline, conventional lipid parameters such as low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were measured/calculated, and unconventional lipid parameters such as non-HDL-C, remnant cholesterol (RC), LDL/HDL-C ratio, TG/HDL-C ratio, non-HDL/HDL-C ratio, TC/HDL-C ratio and RC/HDL-C ratio were calculated. Hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were estimated by Cox proportional hazard regression adjusting for demographic and diabetes-related risk factors. The predictive value and threshold fluctuation intervals of baseline conventional and unconventional lipid parameters for future diabetes were evaluated by the time-dependent receiver operator characteristics (ROC) curve. RESULTS The incidence rate of diabetes was 3.93 per 1000 person-years during an average follow-up period of 6.13 years. In the baseline non-diabetic population, only TG and HDL-C among the conventional lipid parameters were associated with future diabetes risk, while all the unconventional lipid parameters except non-HDL-C were significantly associated with future diabetes risk. In contrast, unconventional lipid parameters reflected diabetes risk better than conventional lipid parameters, and RC/HDL-C ratio was the best lipid parameter to reflect the risk of diabetes (HR: 6.75, 95% CI 2.40-18.98). Sensitivity analysis further verified the robustness of this result. Also, time-dependent ROC curve analysis showed that RC, non-HDL/HDL-C ratio, and TC/HDL-C ratio were the best lipid parameters for predicting the risk of medium-and long-term diabetes. CONCLUSIONS Unconventional lipid parameters generally outperform conventional lipid parameters in assessing and predicting future diabetes risk. It is suggested that unconventional lipid parameters should also be routinely evaluated in clinical practice.

Abstract
Purpose Diabetes is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases in the world, and its prevalence is expected to rise further. To help understand the utility of the ratio of non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (NHHR) in diabetes prevention, this large-scale longitudinal cohort study aims to explore the association of NHHR with diabetes risk and compare it as a risk predictor with conventional lipid parameters. Patients and Methods This observational study extracted data from the NAGALA longitudinal cohort study conducted in Japan between 2004 and 2015. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between NHHR and the risk of diabetes. The dose-response relationship was analyzed by restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression and the potential risk threshold was estimated. The receiver operator characteristic curve (ROC) was used to analyze and calculate the predictive value and optimal threshold of NHHR and other conventional lipids for new-onset diabetes. Results Of the 15,464 people aged 18-79, 373 (2.41%) were diagnosed with new-onset diabetes during the study period, with a median age of 46 years. The sensitivity analysis based on multivariate adjustment showed that the independent positive correlation between diabetes and NHHR was stable in different populations. RCS and ROC analysis indicated that the association between NHHR and diabetes was non-linear, and the NHHR was a better marker for predicting diabetes risk than other conventional lipid parameters; Additionally, it is worth noting that an NHHR of approximately 2.74 may be the optimal threshold for intervention in diabetes risk. Conclusion In the general population, NHHR is a better marker for predicting diabetes risk than conventional lipid parameters, and an NHHR of about 2.74 may be the optimal threshold for assessing diabetes risk.
